BBC’s new show is looking for the UK’s next acting superstar

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Bring The Drama’ plans to unearth the UK’s “next acting superstar”.
The new six-part series for BBC Two will seek to unearth “undiscovered talent” and supply them with mentorship from some of the industry’s leading lights, as they vie for the chance to sign with an agent and star in a BBC drama.
Clare Mottershead, the BBC’s commissioning editor for factual and events, said: “British TV actors are among the best in the world, but there’s still plenty of undiscovered talent waiting for their big break.
“In this entertaining and revealing new competition, we’re scouring the UK to find our next acting superstars as we put them put through their paces behind the scenes of some of Britain’s biggest and best loved dramas.”
Acting hopefuls are already being encouraged to audition for the show.
Leanne Klein, Wall to Wall Media’s managing director, said: “As a nation, TV drama is now the art-form we consume more than any other, so it’s hugely exciting to be making a series that will take viewers behind the scenes of some of our favourite TV shows and unpack the essential skills of acting via the incredible expertise of leading lights in the industry.
“I hope it will be a gripping watch for all who love watching actors as well as those who’d love to act.”
What’s more, the BBC is planning to put on the Bring The Drama Festival, which will highlight ways to access the creative industries.
Suzy Klein, the head of commissioning, arts and classical music, added: “This new competition is about giving everyone the chance to break into a fearsomely competitive industry.
“Many people across the UK dream of becoming an actor, but few get the opportunities and training to do it. ‘Bring The Drama’ promises to take them on the ride of a lifetime, giving them the skills and experience that they could only get in a prestigious acting school.”

Quentin Tarantino says ‘Death Proof’ tanking at box office shook his confidence to core

OHMYGOSSIP — Quentin Tarantino says ‘Death Proof’ bombing at the box office shook his confidence to the core.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ auteur’s 2007 Grindhouse paean, starring Kurt Russell as a psychotic, women-hating stunt driver grossed only $31 million and barely scraped back its $30 million budget – considered a failure by Tarantino’s terms.
He told Spanish newspaper Diari ARA during the international leg of his book tour to promote his ‘Cinema Speculation’ tome: “I have been lucky enough to write stories that have connected with many people, and this has allowed me to practice my art without the restrictions that most filmmakers have.
“Now, a funny thing happened: for a while I was getting a lot of project proposals, until the studios ended up assuming that I do my stories and it wasn’t worth the effort.
“But after ‘Death Proof’, which didn’t do well at the box office and was a bit of a shock to my confidence, I started getting proposals again.
“They must have thought, ‘Perhaps now he’s touched and his temper has gone down, now is the time.’”
Tarantino, 60, added the one upside of the experience was it made him double-down on creating his own work instead of taking studio commissions to direct.
The filmmaker – who intends to retire after making his next movie – said: “And there’s nothing wrong with making commissioned movies for Hollywood. They always offered me interesting projects. But I preferred to reinvest in myself and made ‘Inglourious B*******’.”
Tarantino also went on to make ‘Django Unchained’, which along with ‘Inglorious B*******’ is one of his highest-grossing films, making $426 million at the box office on a $100 million budget.

Jake Gyllenhaal told by Guy Ritchie not to memorise any lines while shooting ‘The Covenant’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Gyllenhaal was told not memorise any of his lines while filming Guy Ritchie’s improvisational new war movie ‘The Covenant’.
The ‘Donnie Darko’ actor, 42, plays US Army Sergeant John Kinley who is hidden by an interpreter in the mountains after a Taliban strike, added he and ‘Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ director Ritchie, 54, worked on his scenes each day he was on a set as the script was only half the average length for movies.
Gyllenhaal told website First We Feast’s ‘Hot Ones’ talk show about the “inspiring” experience: “The thing I love about my job is that you get to work with so many different minds.
“And particularly people at the helm, they’re all different. With Guy, it was unlike anything I’ve ever done.
“He said to me, ‘Don’t memorise any of your lines.’
“The script came in (at) 50 pages. It wasn’t a fully written script. Usually scripts are like 110 pages.
“I was like, ‘What is this?’ when he first sent it.
“He said, ‘When you come to set, we’ll work on it on the day, and you’ll go shoot your thing.
“It was one of the most inspiring creative experiences I’ve ever had because it asked for total let go. Just let go.
“Come in, figure it out, figure it out together. I loved it. I loved it.”
Ritchie’s other stars have praised him for his improvisational approach.
Hugh Grant, 62, told the Metro about working with the director on his 2019 gangster flick ‘The Gentlemen’: “(Guy) directs sort of on the hoof and I’m not entirely sure he had a script!
“He’d turn up on the day and say, ‘So what are we filming today?’ and someone would say, ‘Well, we’re doing this scene,’ and he’d take a look at it on the monitor and there was I, emoting and doing my best, long speeches which I’d carefully learned and he’d go, ‘Yeah, I don’t like any of that. Alright, let’s re-write that.’
“And it was rather depressing but in the end he’s sort of right because the camera likes things which are brand new, fresh and not pre-rehearsed so the whole thing is slightly improvised on the day.”

Sarah Beeny given the all-clear amid cancer battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Sarah Beeny has been given the all-clear following her cancer battle.
The 51-year-old TV presenter was diagnosed with breast cancer in August, but after finishing chemotherapy in February, she’s now been given the all-clear by her doctors.
During an interview on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, stand-in host Christine Lampard said: “Just a few days ago you were given the all-clear.
“I know you’re always going to worry and you’re always going to be aware of your body, but to hear those words at this point is a beautiful thing.”
Sarah then confirmed that she’s been given good news by her doctors.
The ‘Property Ladder’ star shared: “It’s good … it’s weird. It’s kind of like they [the doctors] go, ‘That’s it then’ and that’s the end of that. And you go, ‘How do you know?’, and they say, ‘Well, we don’t, we just think so’. It’s a weird end – you feel like there should be a moment.”
Despite this, Sarah still needs to take medication for the next decade.
She explained: “I have to take drugs for the next ten years and be very vigilant. But it’s been a weird ride I wouldn’t wish on anyone else.”
Sarah added that her health situation has been a “rollercoaster ride”.
Sarah – who has been married to Graham Swift since 2002 – said: “It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.
“But I feel very fortunate that I had the diagnosis that I did, and that I live in 2023 and that I’m the age that I am. So many things I’m fortunate for, so I feel very blessed.”

Russell Crowe was educated on The Pope’s Exorcist

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Crowe had to get “fascinated” by his character in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’.
The 59-year-old actor plays the role of Father Gabriele Amorth – an Italian Catholic priest who claimed to have performed thousands of exorcisms during his life – in the new film and revealed that he had to do a lot of research as he had never heard of his alter ego before the film.
Russell told Collider: “The key thing for me on this was getting fascinated by him. I know it makes me seem very naive, but I had no idea there was a job called the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican. I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’
“I thought that was something that somebody had made up, and then I looked up and realised it was real. And then just tracking back through Father Amorth’s life, it’s a fantastic journey. It’s a fascinating journey.”
The ‘Gladiator’ star took a deep dive into Father Amorth’s story for the film and suspects that others will do so when they see the movie – which is based on the priest’s memoirs ‘An Exorcist Tells His Story’ and ‘An Exorcist: More Stories’.
He said: “I began to believe in Father Amorth through reading about his life experiences. So by extension, if he’s written it down in a book, he didn’t make it up. So, there it is.
“The first two books, if they don’t shake your foundations, nothing will. But it’s definitely worth looking into.”
Russell added: “And look, I met colleagues of his, I met friends of his, I met a man who did 160 exorcisms with him, and the way they talk about Father Amorth, it’s not necessarily that he’s on a pedestal, but he’s certainly in his own rare air. They talked about him with a great deal of respect.”

Elijah Wood’s Lord of the Rings concerns

OHMYGOSSIP — Elijah Wood has concerns about new ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies.
Although the 42-year-old actor – who portrayed Frodo Baggins in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy and ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ – is generally supportive of new movies in the franchise, he admitted he hopes whoever makes the movies will have a passion for JRR Tolkien’s books.
He told GQ: “I’m fascinated and I’m excited. I hope it’s good. I’m surprised—I don’t know why I’m surprised because, of course there would be more movies. Obviously at the core of that, is a desire to make a lot of money. It’s not that a bunch of executives are like, ‘Let’s make really awesome art.’ And, again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce. But great art can come from commerce. So those two things are not mutually exclusive.
“But ‘Lord of the Rings’ didn’t come out of that place. It came out of a passion for these books. And I hope that that is ultimately what will drive everything forward with whatever these subsequent movies are. I just hope that it’s the same motivating factor at its core, whenever they hire a screenwriter and a filmmaker—that it is with reverence for Tolkien’s material and enthusiasm to explore it.”
Wood also revealed he still wanted to challenge himself after the success of ‘Lord of the Rings’ and he didn’t want to get complacent.
He said: “I didn’t want to rest on my laurels. I didn’t want to simply take it easy. I knew that I couldn’t take for granted that I would always have work, even though I was a part of something as big as ‘Lord of the Rings’. The foolish decision would’ve been to be like, ‘It’s cool, I got it.’ I was conscious of wanting to bridge the gap between having been an actor as a kid and being an adult actor and being considered for more adult roles.”

Oti Mabuse’s dream job

OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse’s new weekend chat show feels like a “dream job”.
The first hour-long episode of ‘Oti Mabuse’s Breakfast Show’, hosted by the ‘Dancing on Ice’ judge, 32, airs on Saturday (15.04.23) and Oti is over the moon.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she said: “This show for me has been a dream. Honestly, it’s one of those shows where you go ‘one day when I’m done with this dancing this is what I’d really love to do’.
“I wanted it to be about positivity, I wanted to have open conversations, things that I love. I love being on my phone and on the internet, but looking at the positive stuff and talking about upcoming shows.
“So, it’s a mixture of a lot of things… and cooking, because I’m terrible at it. This is my way, selfishly, of learning how to cook.
“I want people to watch it on a Saturday morning and feel like it’s setting them up for a good day that they’re going to have for the rest of the day. It’s just light, it’s only one hour and it’s fun.”
Oti is said to be viewed as one of “ITV’s golden girls” – despite her show ‘Romeo and Duet’ lasting just one season.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Oti is still considered one of ITV’s golden girls and bosses are delighted with her as a judge on ‘Dancing On Ice’, so they’re sure she’ll be a hit.”

Danniella Westbrook planning wedding once boyfriend is released from prison

OHMYGOSSIP — Danniella Westbrook is planning to wed her boyfriend David after he is released from prison this year.
The pair had an on/off relationship over six years but kept in touch after David was jailed in 2019 and they are now looking forward to tying the knot after his release.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Danniella, 49, said: “It’s just waiting for him to come home now.
“We’re very much together and wedding plans are moving forward.
“Actually just today I went and put a deposit down on a wedding dress. We’ll be getting married abroad – I can’t say much more than right now but I just can’t wait to marry him.”
However, Danniella revealed she feared she would not be alive to marry David after signing up for facial reconstruction surgery in Turkey.
She said: “I was very fearful. My mum and my son Kai were on the phone constantly – I wrote up a will before I left and my son is the executor of that. But luckily I’m still here and I’ve come through the other side. Someone is looking over me.
“For the facial reconstruction I had a surgical thread lift where they put 1200 threads into my face. Then I had liposuction to remove fat from my body and into my cheeks and lips and to make my face more symmetrical. They also used it to align my nose. I had fat grafting on my chin and my jawline etched.
“I had at least 200 surgeons from all over the world – Turkey, India, California – offering to do the surgery for free. But it was important for me to find the right person and I paid for it all myself. This isn’t about Instagram posts, this is my life. I’ve had a lot done for free before and it’s gone wrong.”

Gorka Márquez won’t quit Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorka Márquez won’t quit ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Although their had been speculation that the popular professional dancer would quit the BBC show, it has now been revealed that Gorka, 32, has no plans to leave.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “There was no ill feeling between him and the bosses of ‘Strictly’, he simply felt like he’d been with the show for a long time and had never enjoyed a victory.
“So he’s spent the last four months mulling over his future and, despite the disappointment of defeat last year, is still in love with the show.
“Unlike other stars on the programme, he didn’t feel the need to have a drawn-out wrangle with the BBC over pay, and they offered him a deal which he was happy with.
“Unlike other pros who’ve left ‘Strictly’ prematurely and not enjoyed the success they’d hoped for, Gorka realises how fortunate he is to be on the biggest show on TV, along with the lucrative spin-off work that comes with it.”
Gorka has been a runner-up three times since joining the show in 2016.
In 2017, he placed second with singer Alexandra Burke, in 2020 he and ‘EastEnders’ star Maisie Smith narrowly lost out and last year, he and presenter Helen Skelton missed out on first place.
Meanwhile, Gorka’s partner Gemma Atkinson revealed in January that the couple are expecting their second child.
They already have daughter Mia, three, together.
They met when the actress competed on ‘Strictly’ in 2017, and got engaged in February 2021.

Bruno Tonioli had never watched BGT before joining panel

OHMYGOSSIP — New ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge Bruno Tonioli was nervous about joining the show as he had never watched it before.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star has replaced David Walliams to join the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden but admitted he was worried about how it would go.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “I was nervous because I had no idea. I had never seen the show. Obviously, they’re all friends, but they’ve done it for 10 years.
“I was actually nervous because it’s like you’re jumping into a play, you’ve never rehearsed with a cast you do your performance with.
“They have been so supportive. I really thank you. I tell you from my heart, I’m not a b**********, I enjoyed every moment. I was really tense, but I’ve enjoyed every moment.”
And Bruno, 67, was extra worried as he had no idea about the rules.
He said: “Alesha tried [to explain the rules], but obviously, it went completely over my head. And then I asked, what are the rules? There’s no rules, darling.
“But obviously there were rules, but whatever happened happened. I know now. I will be much better behaved in the live shows, I promise.
“I had no idea about the buzzers. I didn’t know you only had one. I just loved bashing it. It was such a pleasure, whacking the thing.”
Luckily, head judge Simon found it “hilarious” that Bruno had never seen the show.
He said: “It was hilarious, it was so funny.”

Clint Eastwood casts Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in Juror No. 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Clint Eastwood has cast Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in his new movie ‘Juror No. 2’.
The 92-year-old actor and filmmaker will direct the upcoming movie for Warner Bros and after a rigorous casting process, he has offered leading roles to Hoult and Collette.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will take place during a murder trial and follows a juror (Hoult) who discovers he could have caused the victim’s death.
He struggles with deciding whether to save himself by manipulating the jury or turning himself in. Collette is set to play the prosecutor.
The movie is set to start shooting in June, which will make Eastwood – whose birthday is May 31st – 93 when filming begins.
He has reportedly been trying to cast the movie since last year and, at one stage, Charlize Theron was in the running for a leading role.
Eastwood is producing the movie with Adam Goodman, Tim Moore, Matt Skiena, and Jessica Meier.
Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell are executive producing.
Eastwood’s last movie was 2021 American neo-Western drama ‘Cry Macho’, which was poorly received by critics and audiences.
Meanwhile, Eastwood previously insisted he “never thinks” about his age when he’s working and doesn’t want to compare his movies now to when he first started making films because he “might not like” the way he does things now.
Asked if he thinks about how his work has changed over the years, he said: “I never think about it.
“If I’m not the same guy, I don’t want to know anything about it.
“I might not like the new guy.
“I might think, ‘What am I doing with this idiot?’ ”
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times newspaper about his reasons for continuing to work, he added: “I just like it.
“I have nothing against other directors, but I might have a whole different take on things and I don’t want to be thinking, ‘Why did I give it to him?'”

‘I take risks!’ Why Bruno Tonioli signed up to Britain’s Got Talent despite being offered rival show

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli has “always taken risks” in his career.
The 67-year-old star served as a judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ from its inception in 2004 until 2019 but has just started appearing on the panel of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon and explained that he was “very nervous” before taking his seat, especially because ITV had offered him another show.
He told The Sunday Mirror newspaper: “I was very nervous because I was the new boy at school. Of course, I know Simon but I had never worked with him before so I didn’t want to let him down. I’d also never seen the show before! But once we got started I felt at home immediately. Ant and Dec went out of their way to help me that first week. They are two of the best people in showbiz.
“ITV offered me two different very big shows – but I knew immediately which one I wanted to do. There was only ever going to be one choice for me. Got Talent is one of the world’s biggest franchises and I thought it was the right time to work with Simon. I’ve always taken risks in my career – I think it’s good to challenge yourself. When Strictly asked me to come back and sing on the show last year, I was determined not to make a fool of myself. But I did it because I wanted to prove something to myself. Joining BGT is another test.”
Bruno went on to add that he observed long-serving judges Amanda and Alesha when he started filming and “learned a lot from them” before admitting that the live shows – which usually air in May – will be the “real test” for him.
He added: “I had worked with Alesha before but I didn’t know Amanda. I watched them both very closely because they know this show so well – I think I learned a lot from them but the live shows will be the real test for me. Absolutely amazing – we saw some incredible acts.”

‘Blood was gushing from her head!’ Janice Dickison forced to pull out of I’m A Celeb All Stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Janice Dickinson has reportedly been forced to pull out of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! All Stars.’
The 68-year-old supermodel – who placed runner-up in the regular version of the celebrity survival show in 2007 alongside winner Christopher Biggins – had signed up to take part in the new version of the reality series but suffered a fall on set and is said to have made a swift exit from the series after being rushed to hospital.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Blood was gushing from her head and she was covered in dirt and dust. A crowd formed and one of the campmates had to ask everyone to stand back to give her space to breathe.”
The insider went on to add that the injuries that the former ‘American’s Next Top Model’ judge had sustained were so severe” that on-set medics needed further help and that they feared she had suffered a “cracked skull” before she was given the “all-clear” by doctors at the hospital as they noted she had been “doing great” before having to quit the series because of the injury.
The source added: “The injuries were severe enough that she had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. The on-set medics are very good but this needed her going to a fully equipped hospital. There were fears that she had suffered a cracked skull but she was later given the all-clear by doctors. The really sad thing is that Janice was doing great. She was causing all the drama you would expect from a supermodel and she was also a really good laugh. She must have been one of the favourites to win, but she was left with no choice but to miss the rest of the competition.”

‘I just got caught up in it!’ Russell Crowe on his new role in The Pope’s Exorcist

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Crowe “got caught up” in his new role as Father Gabriele Amorth in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist.’
The 59-year-old actor stars as the chief exorcist for the Vatican in the drama film and explained that taking on the role of a real person who had an “incredible life” was just “perfect” for him as a movie star.
He told ScreenRant: “I did ‘The Mummy’ with Tom Cruise nine years ago. So, I did dabble a little bit in the genre, but what caught me up man was the reality and the truth of this guy’s life. This is a real man, Father Gabriele Amorth, he had this incredible life with all these different experiences, but left behind 12 books that document his first person experience as the chief Exorcist for the Vatican. From an actor’s perspective, to be handed a treasure chest like that was just perfect.”
The ‘Les Miserables’ actor starred alongside 11-year-old Peter DeSouza-Feighoney in the horror movie and went on to hail his young co-star as “fantastic” as he noted the young strlet “scared” the adults on set with his performance.
He added: ” I think Peter was fantastic. As a young actor, little boy, it’s his first ever job. It was interesting to watch him develop, because he’s obviously very nervous and stuff to start with. Over time, the course of production, I think he began to relish the days that he had the makeup on, and he was doing the extreme stuff, because of the sense of power he brought with him when he came onto the set.
“And he was scaring all the adults. Some days you’d be just dressed as the normal kid doing the scenes prior to possession, and I would notice you’d be a bit glum. And I would say to him, “You okay? What’s up?” And he’s say, “I just prefer being the demon.”

Holes getting TV reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Holes’ could be getting a reboot in the form of a television series.
The 2003 film – which is based on the novel by Louis Sachar – stars Shia LaBeouf as a young boy wrongfully sent to a correctional camp and now producer Mike Medavoy has revealed that the Disney flick is being considered for a remake on the small screen.
He told Collider: ” I think they’re talking about rebooting it as a television series. I think it’s a tribute to the material and a tribute to the people who made it. It’s interesting because every movie — everything has to work. If I think about my career, there have been 17 movies that were nominated for an Academy Award and seven that won. And the ones that won, like ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’, for example, or ‘Silence of the Lambs’ or ‘Dances With Wolves’ — they weren’t ahead of its time: They were right on its time.”
Mike went on to add that even though the novel had done “really well” with sales of more than one million copies, Disney were “really nervous” about releasing the movie and reflected that it could have “done better” in foreign markets if they had had “more confidence” in it to begin with.
He added: “Well, it’s interesting because the book had already done really well. People read the book — especially younger people. For this kind of film, you need to get a broader audience than just young kids. And that’s basically what it did. Disney was so nervous about the foreign markets — they were afraid of sending it to the foreign markets. Had not done as well as it did in the domestic market, I have a feeling a lot of the foreign markets wouldn’t have been played. The film probably could have done better if they’d had more confidence in it at the time. It did pretty well, obviously, but, you know.”
