Destination X is coming to BBC after success of The Traitors

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC and NBCUniversal have co-commissioned adventure reality show ‘Destination X’.
The two broadcasters – who previously teamed up for ‘The Traitors’, which was hosted by Claudia Winkleman – are coming together for another programme already proving to be a hit after originating in Belgium.
In a press release, the BBC hailed the show as a “larger-than-life adventure competition” which “crosses fantasy with reality”.
The 10-part series will see 10 contestants on a road trip with “no idea of their location”.
The Beeb explained: “Once they’re on the innovative Destination X bus, reality is tweaked to mislead them and the viewers.
“Information comes with a number of clues designed to help the contestants decide if they can trust what they see.
“They need to be on top of their game at all times to figure out where they are.
“At the end of each episode, the contestant who places their X on a map furthest away from the bus’s actual location has to leave the game and loses their shot at winning a cash prize.”
The surviving participants will be left to search for the location of the host, who is interacting with the contestants from a “secret command post”.
‘Destination X’ – which was created by Geronimo – first aired on Belgium’s VTM earlier this year.
In a statement, Kate Phillips – BBC Director of Unscripted – said: “Following the must-see success of ‘The Traitors’, I’m delighted that once again we’re partnering with NBCUniversal on another very smart, very addictive and very innovative competition show.
“With countless red herrings and brain-teasing clues, we were gripped from the start.
“It promises to be a hugely challenging adventure for our ten brave contestants, with plenty of play along for all BBC viewers, as everyone hopes they’ve got the ‘X’ that marks the spot!”
Corie Henson – Executive Vice President, Unscripted Programming at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming – added: “‘Destination X’ is a big unique format that pairs spectacular adventure travel with the ultimate guessing game.
‘The Traitors’ instilled confidence that big formats are back, and ‘Destination X’ is incredibly ambitious.”

AJ Odudu and Will Best ‘to host Big Brother’

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Odudu and Will Best are expected to present the new series of ‘Big Brother’.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star and the ‘Dance Dance Dance’ host are set to front the reality TV show, which will air on ITV2 in the autumn.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “AJ has known since last year the ‘Big Brother’ job was hers but she’s been waiting for her co-host to be confirmed.
“AJ and Will did a brilliant screen test together and their chemistry was brilliant. It was a no brainer. They are great friends too so to be able to work together is really exciting.
“They could not be more excited about joining forces to bring back ‘Big Brother’.
“AJ and Will are going to be formally announced by ITV really soon and they can’t wait to get stuck in.”
AJ – who hosted former spin-off show ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ in 2013, alongside with Rylan Clark and Emma Willis – is thought to have beaten off competition from the likes of Alison Hammond, Emily Atack and Vick Hope for the ‘Big Brother’ role.
In November, it was revealed she was in final talks to front the new ‘Big Brother’ series.
A source told the publication at the time: “AJ has been offered the Big Brother job and jumped at the opportunity. It’s a huge boost to her career.
“AJ and ITV are still ironing out details in her contract but she has told a lot of people the job is hers.”
The reality TV show has been off-air since 2018, but the rebooted format is believed to be closer to the original social experiment which first aired in the UK on Channel 4 back in 2000.
A spokesman for ITV said: “No talent are currently confirmed for the show and announcements will be made in due course.”

Elliott Wright temporarily closes Costa del Sol restaurant ‘out of respect’ after doorman is killed

OHMYGOSSIP — Elliott Wright has temporarily closed his Costa del Sol restaurant “out of respect” after a doorman was killed.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star owns Olivia’s La Cala near Marbella, but the eatery has been shut for two days following the death of Jose Rafael Pisano Pardo, 55, who died after he was knocked unconscious after intervening in a fight.
A statement from Olivia’s read: “This weekend we lost a much loved and valued member of our team.
“Our hearts are broken and we have closed the restaurant today and tomorrow out of respect.
“We are supporting our staff and the family whilst awaiting news of further investigations.”
Father-of-two Jose died in hospital in Malaga on Sunday (17.04.23).
In April 2021, Elliott, 43, was also left devastated when his restaurant burned to the ground in a devastating fire, leading to it being rebuilt.
According to The Sun newspaper, a suspected arson attack is still being investigated and hasn’t led to any arrests.
The fire occurred just a month after Elliott’s father, Edward Wright, passed away following a battle with COVID-19.
The reality star – who is also the cousin of Mark Wright – took to social media at the time to say he was “simply devastated” by the news, and said he would be a “very happy soul” if he could be “half the man” his father was.
In part of a length post, he wrote: “It is with heart wrenching regret, that I have to post this post, my father Edward George Wright passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the 02.03.2021 after bravely fighting Covid for 8 weeks…
“The legacy and mark you leave is colossal, put simply if I could be half the man you were, when my time finally comes.. i would go a very happy soul. I love you dad, the hole you leave is monumental but the memories I will cherish for ever. I know you will be watching over me an the kids, I hope I continue to make you proud, Rest in peace dad. See you at the gates when the time comes. I Love you, with all my Heart (sic)”

Anthony Ramos in talks for Twisters role

OHMYGOSSIP — Anthony Ramos is in talks to join the cast of ‘Twisters’.
The ‘In The Heights’ actor is set to feature alongside Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones in the follow-up to the 1996 disaster epic ‘Twister’.
The flick is not thought to be a direct sequel but is being directed by Lee Isaac Chung from a script by ‘The Revenant’s’ Mark L. Smith.
While their roles are not known at this time, however, it was previously revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that: “Edgar-Jones will star in the project as a former storm chaser who, after surviving a disastrous tornado encounter, now works a desk job. However, she will soon be forced to, you guessed it, go out into the breach once more.”
The original blockbuster starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton in the lead roles. It was directed by ‘Speed’ filmmaker Jan De Bont and executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
Anthony, 31, will next feature on the big screen in the new ‘Transformers’ movie ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and explained how he feels a constant need to prove himself on every film that he works on.
He told Collider: “I think for me, I have a conversation with myself before I say yes to anything, and I take a long time to decide to do things, especially in my work, because it’s been so hard for me, especially being Puerto Rican and from the hood. I already had all the things going against me, right?
“So it’s like, now I say to myself, ‘How can I continue to not only prove myself to the world, but prove to myself, ‘Hey, you can do that. You can also do that. And you can do that. And you can do that.’ And continue to challenge myself, and just continue to challenge myself. So I think that’s really the biggest goal for me right now.”

James McAvoy to star in Speak No Evil

OHMYGOSSIP — James McAvoy is set to star in ‘Speak No Evil’.
The 43-year-old actor is attached to feature in a remake of the Danish psychological horror thriller ‘Gaesterne’.
The movie is being written and directed by James Watkins for Universal and a release date of August 2024 has been set by the studio. The director has previously worked on the horror movies ‘Eden Lake’ and ‘The Woman In Black’ as well as the TV shows ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘McMafia’.
‘Speak No Evil’ centres on a family who take a dream holiday to an idyllic house in the country, only to have the vacation turn into a psychological nightmare.
The original film was directed by Christian Tafdrup and was nominated for 11 Danish Film Awards, the nation’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Blumhouse chief Jason Blum is producing with executive producers including Tafdrup, Paul Ritchie, Jacob Jarek and Bea Sequeira.
James is known for playing Professor Charles Xavier in the ‘X-Men’ film series and revealed that he would be willing to reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) given the right story.
The ‘Glass’ star said: “I’m all about doing good stuff, and when I got asked to play Charles for the first time, it was good stuff. It was good writing, and I was excited. If people offer me good writing, I’m always going to be excited.”
Despite being open to a return, James is satisfied with the ending for the character and wouldn’t be disappointed if he never returned to the part.
He said: “I do feel like I’ve had a good ending with Charles and I got to explore some really good stuff, particularly in the first two movies that I did for him as a character. So if my time is done, I’m happy with the time that I spent and the time that I was given and if good writing comes in and people want to do stuff with me, I’ll always be open to that, but it’s got to be good.”

David Gillespie returning to EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — David Gillespie is returning to ‘EastEnders’ after 34 years.
Vicar Duncan Boyd will be reunited with his former flame Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) after he departed Albert Square in 1989 after two years to move to pastures new in Wiltshire.
It followed their romantic dalliance that began as Sharon took refuge in his church amid her parents Den and Angie Watts’ infamous furious fighting.
The 65-year-old actor said: “I have to say what a pleasure it was being back in ‘EastEnders’ reviving my role as Duncan after over 30 years of leaving the show – a little strange at first but ‘nice strange’.
“The only people I knew were my old mates Letitia and Gillian [Taylforth] but I was made to feel instantly at home by such a wonderful cast and great crew – lots of new friends. Fabulous!”
‘EastEnders’ boss Chris Clenshaw labelled Duncan reprising his role as “wonderful”, as the character gears up to appear in three episodes to perform the christening of Sharon’s son Albie, who she has with Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).
Executive producer Chris said: “It’s wonderful to welcome David back to the role of Duncan Boyd. Although we haven’t seen Duncan for over three decades, his character shares a romantic history with one of the show’s iconic matriarchs, Sharon.
“We’re delighted to have him back for a short while as he unknowingly stirs up drama between the happy couple.”
The long-running BBC One soap saw a wave of classic characters like Colin Russell, Mary ‘The Punk’ Smith and George ‘Lofty’ Holloway – played by Lord Michael Cashman, Linda Davidson and Tom Watt respectively – come home for the funeral of beloved matriarch Dot Branning (June Brown) last October.
At the time, Chris said: “It’s an honour to invite so many of Walford’s beloved characters back to pay tribute to Dot.
“Over the years, Dot profoundly impacted the lives of many young people struggling with life’s biggest challenges.
“Her warmth, heart and compassion changed lives – so we wanted to reunite some of the people she helped the most. I’m thrilled these talented and generous actors wanted to share this special experience with us so we can give Dot a fitting send-off.”

Ross Kemp hails Blindspot’s ’empowering’ script

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp was wowed by ‘Blindspot’s “empowering” script.
The 58-year-old actor stars in the upcoming Channel 5 drama – which centres on the relationship between a woman seeking justice and a possibly-corrupt police officer – and Ross has explained why he agreed to star in the four-part thriller.
The former soap star – who last appeared on-screen in ‘EastEnders’ in 2016 – told RadioTimes.com: “The script, it was the story – I thought it was clever, in terms of what the story is about, about people being watched and how people interpret being watched.
“We are the most watched nation in the world – we’re always being looked at.”
In the series, Beth Alsbury stars as Hannah Quinn, a disabled woman who works monitoring the CCTV on an estate.
Ross relished the opportunity to work with Beth and the show’s director.
He shared: “Jordan Hogg [the director] has got cerebral palsy, and Beth is obviously in a wheelchair … I thought it was quite enabling, without ramming it down your throat. I just liked it from a point of view that it was about empowering somebody in a chair.”
Earlier this month, Ross revealed that his acting return was more nerve-wracking than filming some of his hard-hitting documentaries.
During an appearance on ‘Lorraine’, Ross admitted: “I was more nervous, for sure. Because I think, when I first walked on the set of ‘EastEnders’ in 1989 with Steve McFadden, there were no expectations.
“We just wanted to get out there and do it and we were young.
“I’m a lot older now, I’ve been around a bit, and I think there’s greater expectation. Or your fear of failure increases as you get older.”

Joey Essex ‘swaps Britain for Dubai’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey Essex is reportedly ditching Britain for Dubai after a break-in at his home.
The ex ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant is “housing hunting” in the United Arab Emirates, following a robbery at his £3 million Essex mansion.
A source close to the 32-year-old reality star told The Sun newspaper: “Joey has started house-hunting in Dubai. He is planning to buy a base out there so he can jet off whenever he likes.
“Joey will be splitting his time between his home in Essex and his new place in Dubai.
“He loves the lifestyle out there and feels completely safe.”
Joey was reportedly “horrified and shaken” after crooks rifled through his Spanish-style home – which he bought for £1.6 million back in 2014 – back in January.
The break-in led the TV star to reassess his priorities.
The source continued: “The incident at his house made him think about his life and what he wants from it.
“Joey has been looking at properties over the past few days and is weighing up his options. It is a really exciting time for him.”
Meanwhile, Vanessa Bauer recently confirmed that she’s dating Joey.
The 26-year-old skater – who is best known for appearing on ‘Dancing on Ice’ – told The Sun newspaper: “Me and Joey, we’re doing very good – we are doing really good at the moment.”
Joey competed on ‘Dancing on Ice’ earlier this year, and Vanessa admitted that they both needed a bit of rest and relaxation.
She said: “‘Dancing on Ice’ is so intense and I feel everybody needs downtime after the show. I needed time out after the show and I feel after six seasons of doing it, I feel like Thailand is my happy place. There is a lot more bikini pictures to come.
“Joey is a very serious guy behind closed doors, he worked so hard – it’s been an incredible series. We were close to winning but it was never about winning, we won anyway.”

Strictly Come Dancing professionals ‘angered by pay row’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professionals are reportedly angered by the pay demands of the judges.
The professional dancers are rumoured to be furious that the judges – Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke – are seeking a pay increase while they receive a flat fee of around £35,000.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: “The pros are seething.
“They work their a**** off for three months of the year, while the judges swan in on a Saturday, watch some nice dancing and air their thoughts.
“A few of the dancers mooted the idea of staging their own protest. But they are well aware there’s a cost of living crisis and they all love and are appreciative of their jobs.”
The ‘Strictly’ dancers often train for up to ten hours a day, six days a week.
The judges are said to be pushing for a pay rise, but the BBC is reported to be standing firm over their demands.
Meanwhile, Rylan Clark recently announced via social media that he was quitting as the host of ‘Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two’.
The 34-year-old star – who has co-hosted the show alongside Zoe Ball and Janette Manrara – wrote on Instagram: “After four fantastic years it’s time for me to hang up my glittery jacket and say goodbye to It Takes Two.
“I’ve had the best time hosting the show alongside Janette and Zoe and I can’t thank the amazing team enough for always putting on a great show.
“I’ve been welcomed into the Strictly family and will firmly hold that title dear to me.
“The time has come for me to pass on the baton to someone else and explore what else life has for me.
“Thank you Strictly, you will have my heart and dancing feet. (sic)”

Nicholas Hoult has ‘never watched’ Skins

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicholas Hoult has “never” watched ‘Skins’.
The 33-year-old actor played troubled teen Tony Stonem in the E4 teen drama – which followed fictional sixth formers in Bristol and their drug-fuelled antics – for two seasons, but Nicholas finds it “too painful” to watch himself on the show.
He told Tom Green on Hits Radio: “I’ve never watched it. Maybe at some point, I think it would be too painful for me to watch.
“I don’t enjoy watching myself. I feel like, I don’t know, I shrink away from this. Maybe when I’m like 80? If I make it to 80…”
By contrast, Nicholas felt he could really “relate” to ‘The Inbetweeners’, which followed four hapless boys during their teenage years.
The sitcom starred Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley, and the Hollywood star found it easier to relate to.
He said: “Watching that I was like, this I can relate to in many ways more…”
Meanwhile, April Pearson – who played Tony’s girlfriend Michelle – previously admitted to feeling uncomfortable during her time on the show.
The actress claimed that she “didn’t feel protected” while shooting explicit sex scenes.
On her podcast, ‘Are You Michelle From Skins’, April said: “You don’t really know what to say, to speak out, is this okay … And as with a lot of victims of trauma, you look back at it and think: ‘Yeah, that was f***** up.’
“There’s a difference between being officially old enough and mentally old enough. I was having this conversation with my husband and I was saying I do feel like I was too young, I feel like I wasn’t protected.”

Nicolas Cage insists he wasn’t being ‘pretentious’ over desire to identify as a thespian

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage insists he wasn’t trying to be “pretentious” when he said during lockdown he would rather identify as a thespian than an actor.
The ‘Face/Off’ Oscar-winner, 59, made global headlines after he told Variety in 2021 he was fearful of the term acting being linked with an ability to lie, and admitted he sees his art as “more like shamanism” – while acknowledging his beliefs may sound “absurd and ridiculous”.
Cage opened up about his past comments in an appearance on ‘The Late Show’ with Stephen Colbert to promote his forthcoming Dracula spin-off horror comedy ‘Renfield’, when he asked by the host to explain why “being pretentious is appealing to you?”
The actor/thespian replied: “What I was saying was, of course you can call me an actor.
“And by the way, I never said, ‘Don’t call me an actor. Call me a thespian.’
“That’s what the clickbait universe was doing and put out there and somehow it got picked up by CNN.
“I’m not sure how it got picked up by CNN. I’m sure they have more important things to report on.
“I see acting as storytelling and what it is is trying to get to the truth of a character.”
Cage added the first actor in Europe was called Thespus, who broke free from a Greek chorus and started narrating and telling a story truthfully.
He said: “I see acting as storytelling and what it is is trying to get to the truth of a character and the first actor in Europe was someone called Thespus and what happened there in Greece was that he broke free from the chorus and started narrating and started telling a story truthfully.
“So to me, acting is trying to find the truth of a story.”
“Now what’s interesting, literally the word ‘actor’ in Greek means ‘hypocrite’. Well, I don’t want to be thought of as a hypocrite. I’m sorry if that sounds pretentious.”
Cage also listed his top five films starring himself as ‘Pig’, ‘Mandy’, ‘Bringing out the Dead’, ‘Bad Lieutenant’ and ‘Joe’.
He said: “I’m going to start with ‘Pig’ – that is my favourite movie I have ever made.
“I love ‘Mandy’, the movie that Panos (Cosmatos) directed. I love ‘Bringing out the Dead’ that Martin Scorsese directed. I loved ‘Bad Lieutenant’ (by) Werner Herzog. I loved a movie called ‘Joe’ that David Gordon Green directed.”
When Colbert told him he listed ‘Face/Off’ in his list of top five Cage films, the star replied: “Oh I like that one a lot. You know what is interesting about ‘Face/Off’ and I, I could have mentioned ‘Vampire’s Kiss’ because ‘Vampire’s Kiss’ was a little movie I made where I was able to explore my more abstract dreams with film performance.
“I was sadly playing a character who was losing his mind, but he was beginning to think that he was.
“The Vampire from the original Nosferatu movie. And when you’re playing a character who’s losing his mind, he can believe he’s Nosferatu.
“So I gotta act like a German expressionist silent movie star, and that was cool, like these facial expressions and whatnot.
“But ‘Face/Off’ was a big movie, a big studio movie that I made at Paramount, and I was able to use what I learned from this little ‘Vampire’s Kiss’ movie and put it in this giant movie. And it worked.
“And I was like, ‘People really dig this.’ So I was very happy with those results.”

Richard Linklater may make ‘Boyhood’ sequel starting when Mason Jr is 30

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Linklater has thought about making a ‘Boyhood’ sequel that starts when its lead character is 30.
The ‘Before Sunrise’ director, 62, famously filmed the epic coming-of-age tale featuring Ellar Coltrane as Mason Evans Jr over the course of 12 years from 2002 to 2013, and said the six-time Oscar winning project still “breathes” for him.
He told Empire magazine in an interview to mark the Arrow Video release of the film when asked if there could be a follow-up: “There were things we could have done – it just hasn’t really grabbed.
“For all we know, we could just jump in at age 30 or something. Who the hell knows?”
But Linklater, also famed for his indie film ‘Slacker’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’, said he already knows what happens to Ethan’s character next as it’s been charted in his series of films about college and his ‘Before’ trilogy about the youthful hunt for love, marriage, kids, divorce and middle-age.
He said about the film, which also featured Patricia Arquette in a Best Supporting Actress-winning role as Mason Jr’s mum and Ethan Hawke as his dad: “I know what happened next – in fact, it’s represented in a bunch of movie I’ve made (about) college life… ‘Before Sunrise’, or ‘Everybody Wants Some!!’
“That movie begins with a guy arriving at college. It still breathes for me.
“It’s not calcified in some time. I mean, it’s a document of 2002 to 2013, but it was never really just about that.
“My goal there, probably my larger project in this world, was to – in an entertaining, hopefully watchable way – show what life was like, you know? “What it was like to be a human at any moment in time.”
Linklater added he’ll probably rewatch the 165-minute film when its 12th anniversary comes around in 2026, as that was the amount of years it took to make.
He said: “Give it a couple more years, and then I’ll watch it again, see how it resonates in my head.
“But it was such a good experience and achieved what we set out to do. So you leave it there and feel good about it.”

Rylan Clark brought ‘glitz and glamour’ to Strictly Come Dancing, says Aljaz Skorjanec

OHMYGOSSIP — Aljaz Skorjanec has hailed Rylan Clark for bringing “glitz and glamour” to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 33-year-old dancer has taken to social media to praise Rylan, after the 34-year-old presenter announced that he was stepping down as the co-host of ‘Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two’.
Aljaz – who is married to Janette Manrara, Rylan’s former co-host – wrote on Instagram Story: “What a fabulous four years it has been sir!
“You brought so much glitz and glamour to the best show on telly! You were always my fave ITT presenter [wink emoji]!! Good luck and never forget your dancing shoes! (sic)”
Earlier this week, Rylan took to social media to announce he was quitting ‘It Takes Two’.
The TV star – who has also co-hosted the show alongside Zoe Ball – wrote on Instagram: “After four fantastic years it’s time for me to hang up my glittery jacket and say goodbye to It Takes Two.
(sic)”
Rylan split from his husband Dan Neal last year, and he previously admitted that his life was “s***” in the aftermath of their break-up.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I got ill and I lost weight, I went down to under ten stone – and I’m six feet four inches, so that’s not good.
“The honest truth is that it’s been s***.
“I didn’t deal with what happened and now I am. I felt unwell and it was a very difficult time for me.”

Minnie Driver set to star in Peep Show remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Minnie Driver has been cast in the US remake of ‘Peep Show’.
The 53-year-old actress will star alongside Amandla Jahava in FX’s ‘Peep Show’ pilot episode, according to Variety.
In response to Variety’s story, Minnie wrote on Twitter: “Happy news. No pressure re-making comedy gold though , obviously . @FXNetworks #peepshow (sic)”
Yana Gorskaya is poised to direct the reboot, which is based on the British comedy series of the same name that ran between 2003 and 2015.
The sitcom starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb as the main characters. But the American version of the show is set to have a different dynamic.
The official logline reads: “Taking inspiration from the original UK series ‘Peep Show’ and its unique narrative format, the pilot follows the relationship between a long-suffering assistant (Jahava) and her boss (Driver), an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur.”
The pilot was commissioned in December, with Stefani Robinson serving as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
Meanwhile, David Mitchell previously suggested that ‘Peep Show’ differs from some well-known American comedy shows.
The actor observed that ‘Peep Show’ fans were often laughing at the main characters, rather than with them.
He explained: “I find it endlessly pleasing that the truth is that almost everyone feels like a bit of an outsider. And the real outsiders are the tiny minority who don’t.
“The success of not just ‘Peep Show’ but sitcoms in general is a sign of how audiences identify with these apparent outsider oddball failure characters because that’s how the vast majority of people feel about themselves. But it is very comforting, the notion that the people out in the cold are the odd kind of sociopathic uber-successful Etonians who sort of feel included and loved.”

Dani Dyer’s documentary explores pressures of being a ‘good mum’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dani Dyer has struggled with the pressures of being a “good mum”.
The 26-year-old TV star – who has Santiago, two, with Sammy Kimmence – has opened up about her own experiences of anxiety for a new documentary, ‘Dani Dyer: Is This Anxiety?’.
Dani – who is expecting twins later this year with sports star Jarrod Bowen – said: “Anxiety is a topic that everyone’s heard about, but we still don’t openly talk about our experiences. It can affect anyone, but as a young mum, it can be overwhelming at a time that’s already challenging and daunting.
“I’m really excited to be working with E4 and Summer Films to explore this topic, remove the stigma associated with mental health and meet other mums in the UK who have struggled with the pressures of what a supposed ‘good mum’ looks like.”
Mel Bezalel, the commissioning editor of Channel 4, has hailed the new documentary, describing it as “long overdue”.
Mel said: “Millions of us have followed Dani since her stint in the [‘Love Island’] villa, having fallen for her honesty, warmth and down to earth nature.
“Her candidness on motherhood and how it’s changed her life – for better and for worse – is refreshing, necessary and this discussion about anxiety and parenthood feels long overdue.
“The exclusive access Dani has given us makes this an important documentary we’re proud to have on E4 and All 4.”
Meanwhile, Sam Whittaker, of Summer Films, hopes the documentary will help to “normalise conversations around anxiety in pregnancy”.
Sam said: “We are extremely grateful to Dani and everyone else involved for bravely putting trust in us to tell their stories, and making a film that we hope helps normalise conversations around anxiety in pregnancy and early parenthood.”
