Jessica Biel joins Ursa Major cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Biel has landed a role in ‘Ursa Major’.
The 41-year-old actress has replaced Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the cast of the sci-fi thriller from sibling directors Jonathan and Josh Baker.
Xochitl Gomez is also set to star in the movie that will go into production later this year.
The picture is set on an earth-like planet where mother Charlie (Biel) and daughter Natalie (Gomez) fight for survival while hiding from a group of relentless hunters.
With the added threat of a deadly storm, Natalie begins questioning her mother Charlie about who they are, how they got here and what they must to do to survive.
Winstead had been due to play the part of Charlie but had to drop out of the film due to scheduling conflicts.
The Baker brothers are directing ‘Ursa Major’ from an original script by Patrick Somerville – the creator of the HBO Max series ‘Station Eleven’. He co-wrote the film with Colleen O’Brien and Katie French and is producing with David Eisenberg.
Jessica previously suggested that she is “constantly being pulled in a million directions” as a working mother.
The star – who has sons Silas, eight, and Phineas, two, with husband Justin Timberlake – confessed that it is challenging to maintain a healthy balance in her life.
Speaking on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, Jessica said: “It’s not easy sort of balancing your whole life trying to be around your kids and spend time with your partners and friends, and time for yourself and then also your career. It’s so hard.
“I don’t think I’ve done it well necessarily yet.
“I feel like I’m constantly being pulled in a million directions, and I think I do that thing where I’m like, ‘It’s all great’, and inside is like a crazy turmoil of ocean waves crashing and I’m freaking out about trying to figure it all out.”

Natalie Cassidy: EastEnders is on the up

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Cassidy says the morale on ‘EastEnders’ is “fantastic” at the moment, and she believes the soap is “on the up”.
The 39-year-old actress has portrayed Sonia Fowler on the BBC One soap since 1993, and she is still “really happy” working on the programme.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I drive into work, I go to ‘EastEnders’ and I think I’m really happy at the moment.
“The place is great, the morale is fantastic, all the people are great, the writing’s great.
“Of course, you have the dips and the ups and it’s on an up and it’s lovely.”
Natalie’s comments come after her former co-star Danny Dyer recently hinted at a potential feud on the BBC One soap, after admitting he didn’t “love” all of his fellow Albert Square residents.
The 45-year-old actor – who played Mick Carter for nine years – admitted there are “a few” of the show’s stars he won’t miss much.
When asked on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ who he will miss the least, he said: “There’s a few of them actually, I ain’t going to lie. I won’t say [who], you know. Most of them I love dearly. Not all.”
Jonathan asked: “So they know who they are, though?”
Danny said: “I would have thought so.”
The star admitted it was “very emotional” departing the soap, but he stank while shooting his final scenes, in which his landlord alter-ego got lost at sea.
He added: “I tell you what it is, I’m lazy. It’s f****** hard. Thirty pages you’ve got to learn a day. It’s like a film a week. My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But EastEnders couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.
“It’s all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It’s f***ing broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk.
“If it goes t*** up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed…
“They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”

Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves to star in Good Fortune

OHMYGOSSIP — Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves have been cast in ‘Good Fortune’.
The pair will star in the comedy movie that is being written and directed by Aziz Ansari.
The ‘Parks and Recreation’ star will feature alongside Rogen and Reeves in the Lionsgate film that is set to begin production in Los Angeles next month.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but Ansari, Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang will produce the flick.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group head Joe Drake said: “We have indeed found good fortune with this film. We love the script and believe strongly in Aziz as both a performer and a director.
“And when you add in Seth and Keanu – two incredible world-class talents – toplining alongside Aziz, this has the potential to be a very special film for us. We moved quickly to land this project once it was available.”
Seth stars in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ as the voice of Donkey Kong and suggested that the gorilla could be a part of a ‘Fast and Furious’ style spin-off project.
He told Collider: “There’s a lot of opportunity there. I think the family unit of the Kongs seems to be – and if the ‘Fast and Furious’ movies have taught us anything [it’s] that it’s all about family.”
Rogen explained how his approach to playing Donkey Kong ensured that he had a “good dynamic with the other characters” and could be comical in scenes.
The ‘Knocked Up’ star told Entertainment Tonight: “The voice sounds like me. I’ve done a lot of these. I don’t change my voice. I’m not one of those actors.
“For me [it was about] finding a way that the character has a good comedic dynamic with the other characters and making sure I feel like I can just be funny in the scenes. That was my approach to Donkey Kong.
“Where that landed was this idea that he just hates Mario [voiced by Chris Pratt] and that he’s really annoyed that he’s stuck with him the whole movie.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Loose Women’ are to embark on a live tour this autumn.
Stars of the ITV1 daytime, including anchors Christine Lampard, Charlene White, and Kaye Adams, and panellists Denise Welch, Linda Robson, Dame Kelly Holmes, and Brenda Edwards, are to hit the road for ‘Loose Women Live’ later this year.
The tour will kick off at Birmingham Symphony Hall on September 1st, and will visit 16 spectacular venues throughout the month and include a night at the world-famous London Palladium.

Gloria Hunniford, Jane Moore, Katie Piper, Nadia Sawalha and Sunetra Sarker will also be part of ‘Loose Women Live’.
Loose Women editor Sally Shelford said: “We’re delighted the show is hitting the road for the first time with Loose Women Live!

Janet then said: “You are my friend! Don’t start being neurotic, Denise. Don’t mess it up!”
Tickets for ‘Loose Women Live’ will be available for general sale at 10am on Friday (21.04.23).

Keeley Hawes turns to reformer Pilates in effort to ‘look after herself’

OHMYGOSSIP — Keeley Hawes has turned to Pilates and boxing in an effort to “look after” herself.
The ‘Bodyguard’ star has been feeling “a bit out of sorts sometimes” and experiencing headaches of late, but admitted drinking water has helped, and she recently took part in her first ever first reformer Pilates class, which is done using a machine rather than a mat.
She told The Times newspaper: “I’m 47, so I’m getting headaches and feeling a bit out of sorts sometimes – but actually, it makes a big difference if you remember to drink a lot of water.”
Speaking about reformer Pilates, she said: “I thought, ‘I’m going to get caught up in a tangled mess here and turn into a meme’ – but actually, it was great.
“I’ve tried boxing before, and I quite like that, because it’s an exercise where you’re thinking about something, so you’re not thinking about the exercise. So yeah, I’m making an effort to look after myself.”
The former ‘Line of Duty’ actress admits she can’t help but “find things wrong” with her own reflection when she is sat in the make-up chair for hours before filming, so she tries to “find distractions”.
She said: “When you’re on a job for six months, you’ve got no choice but to spend a ridiculous amount of time in front of a mirror.
“You see yourself first thing in the morning, and sometimes you’re sitting there for two hours. And you know, it’s fun, and you’re creating a character – but actually, you’re doing something unnatural by staring at your own reflection. Of course, you’ll start to find things wrong with it.
“So I take that quite seriously and I try to find distractions, while make-up artists do their job.”
In August, Keeley – who has two kids, Maggie, 18, and Ralph, 16, with her fellow actor husband Matthew Macfadyen, and son Myles, 22, from a previous marriage to DJ Spencer McCallum – admitted she doesn’t want to act “forever”, because there are “other things” she’d like to take the time to pursue.
She told You magazine: “I don’t want to do it forever.
“I love it, I’ve been really lucky but over the past couple of years, like lots of people, you think, “God, life is short and you’re only here once” – if you believe that, which I do – and there might be other avenues to explore.
“I’ll be 50 in a minute. There might be other things out there for me.”

George Clooney thinks Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg ‘regret’ Ocean’s Eleven snub

OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney thinks that Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg “regret” turning down ‘Ocean’s Eleven’.
The 61-year-old actor revealed that the stars rejected the chance to feature in the 2001 heist comedy film during an appearance with director Steven Soderbergh at the TCM Classic Film Festival.
George, who played Danny Ocean in the movie, said: “Steven had just done ‘Erin Brockovich’ and ‘Traffic’, and he was nominated for (an Oscar) directing both films. So, people really wanted to work with Steven.”
Soderbergh interjected: “That said, some people did say no to us.”
Clooney added: “They did. Some very famous people told us to f*** right off: Mark Wahlberg, Johnny Depp. There were others. They regret it now. I regret doing f****** Batman.”
The ‘Ticket to Paradise’ star also praised Soderbergh for including 1970s cinematic traits in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’.
George recalled: “It’s also important to understand where we were at the time. The studios were making very big, broad, not very good films at that time.
“Steven had this idea of trying to infuse all of this independent film stuff that all of these young filmmakers were learning back into the studio system. It was going to get back to the things that they were doing from like 1964 to 1975.”
The director explained how he saw the film as a chance to combine his indie techniques with big-budget Hollywood filmmaking.
Soderbergh said: “It felt like the next iteration in my desire to work in the mainstream film business and make movies that could be released in a lot of theatres.
“I grew up watching movies made by great filmmakers that were commercially successful, distinctive movies. And I wanted to be part of that tradition.”

Ryan Reynolds ‘pestered’ Hugh Jackman to make Wolverine return

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds “pestered” Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’.
The 54-year-old actor is due to return as Logan/Wolverine in the upcoming superhero blockbuster and Ryan explained how he was desperate to get the ‘X-Men’ character involved in the ‘Deadpool’ franchise.
He told ET Canada: “We’ve wanted this for decades… it’s weirdly the perfect time.
“I never stopped (trying to get him to come back as Wolverine). I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.”
Hugh promised fans that his appearance in ‘Deadpool 3’ will not alter the previous ‘X-Men’ timeline and Reynolds promised that the movie – which is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – will provide a “divergence” from the star’s other work as the clawed character.
The ‘Free Guy’ actor said: “And what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Jackman previously revealed that he would only return as Wolverine on the basis that the events of the 2017 film ‘Logan’ were not tampered with, as fans consider the picture to be the perfect conclusion for the character.
He told SiriusXM: “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines.
“Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”

The Little Mermaid director praises Melissa McCarthy for Ursula’s ‘depth’ in live action reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Little Mermaid’ director Rob Marshall has praised Melissa McCarthy for bringing “depth” to Ursula.
The filmmaker has opened up on the decision to cast the ‘Bridesmaids’ actress as the iconic sea witch who steals the voice from Ariel (Halle Bailey) in the live action reboot, and how “daunting” it was to get the right person in the role, who was originally inspired by drag queen Divine.
He told SFX magazine: “I love that she was originally inspired by Divine [Harris Glenn Milstead], the wonderful drag actor, who was so original and so funny.
“I thought, ‘Well, who’s going to be able to bring the humor and the depth?’ Because this is now a live-action piece, it can’t just be a funny character, it has to have a great deal of depth.
“Who can do that and sing – really sing – and bring originality? I wanted a woman of size, too, as I thought that was important.”
Marshall hailed McCarthy as a “wonderful” performer even beyond her reputation for comedy, and went back to Ursula’s early inspiration for the original 1989 animated classic.
He added: “She’s a wonderful actress, people forget that. They say, ‘Oh, she’s funny.’
“This character is an injured character, and she was able to find all that depth and emotion, in addition to all the other colours.
“We really used Divine as our inspiration, because that’s where it started.
“But the thing about Divine is that she’s bigger than life, and this character is bigger than life, but at the same time, Melissa was able to bring humanity to it.”
McCarthy recently opened up on the influence for her character, describing her as “everything I want in a drag queen” and pointing to the “sadness” and “edginess” combined with humour.
She added to Entertainment Weekly: “There’s a drag queen that lives in me. I’m always right on the verge of going full-time with her.”

Courtney B Vance joins Disney’s live-action Lilo and Stitch film

OHMYGOSSIP — Courtney B. Vance has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action ‘Lilo and Stitch’ movie.
The 63-year-old star will take on the role of Cobra Bubbles in the forthcoming film, according to Deadline.
Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen are already attached to the motion picture, and newcomer Maia Kealoha is expected to portray Lilo.
It’s not yet known how the upcoming film will compare to the 2002 animated science fiction comedy-drama film and the subsequent cartoon TV series.
‘Lilo and Stitch’ tells the story of a six-year-old Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai, who is raised by her 19-year-old sister Nani after their parents died in a car accident, and a blue extra-terrestrial animal-like creature called Experiment 626, who is adopted by Lilo as her dog and renamed Stitch.
Bubbles was voiced by Ving Rhames in the original movie and several spin-offs, as well as TV show ‘Lilo and Stitch: The Series’.
In November 2020, Jon M. Chu was said to be in talks to direct the new ‘Lilo and Stitch’ movie, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback reported to be producing.
The original movie saw Daveigh Chase play Lilo, and Chris Sanders as Stitch, while Tia Carrere portrayed Nani.
As well as starring as the central character, Sanders co-directed and co-write the 2002 film alongside Dean DeBlois.
‘Lilo and Stitch’ – which also featured Zoe Caldwell and David Ogden Stiers – went on to spawn several spin-offs, including 2003’s ‘Stitch! The Movie’, followed by ‘Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch’ in 2005, and 2006 movie ‘Leroy and Stitch’.

Cheryl Baker joins EastEnders for Eurovision special

OHMYGOSSIP — Cheryl Baker is joining ‘EastEnders’ for a ‘Eurovision Song Contest’ special.
The former Bucks Fizz singer – whose band, now known as The Fizz, won the singing competition in 1981 with ‘Making Your Mind Up’ – is heading to Albert Square as part of the BBC One soap’s episode celebrating the contest coming to the UK next month for the first time since 1998.
In a statement, Cheryl said: “I was so thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of ‘EastEnders’.
“It’s a British institution, for goodness sake! As a real-life ‘EastEnder’, I have loved the show since day one and I literally can’t wipe the smile from my face.”
Details about her special guest appearance are being kept under wraps, besides fans knowing it will tie into next month’s event in Liverpool.
The 69-year-old singer has actually auditioned for a part in the soap before but got rejected after failing to “learn her lines properly”.
Back in 2021, she told the Daily Star newspaper: “I auditioned for EastEnders recently but I didn’t get the part. I was a bit rubbish really.
“I was a bit nervous and didn’t learn my lines properly.
“I don’t watch any soaps – I’m not a big TV watcher at all. I think it was the part of the woman who runs the theatre school, which is something that I’ve done in the past.
“It was in the midst of lockdown, my daughter was reading the other part and to be perfectly honest I didn’t learn my lines properly. I didn’t deserve the part. However, I’d like them to give me a second chance.
“I’m a very optimistic person, and if something doesn’t happen I believe something better is around the corner.”

Chris Eubank quits Scared of the Dark: ‘I have other people to look after’

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Eubank has quit ‘Scared of the Dark’.
The 56-year-old former professional boxer decided to depart the Channel 4 show – in which celebrities live in a pitch-black bunker for eight days – on Wednesday night’s episode (19.04.23), and he exited the dark space without saying goodbye to the remaining seven celebrities.
When asked if he is “afraid of the dark”, Chris said: “I’m afraid of nothing. When you go out to the world, that’s what you’re going into, the dark.”
Talking about his decision to leave, he said: “It’s my last day in this construct. The real dark is where I’m going back to, where they need my assistance, whether they know it or not.
“I am an entertainer and I’m sorry but I have other people to look after with my insight.”
Chris clashed with several of his fellow ‘Scared of the Dark’ stars throughout this week’s series, including objecting to them using foul language.
On hearing that Chris had decided to leave the show, former ‘Love Island’ Chloe Burrows said: “Do you know what? I think it’s a pride thing, admitting that he can’t do it and we’re just not his type of people, do you know what I mean?”
Chris McCausland added: “I think he found it difficult in ways he didn’t want to admit.”
But Scarlett Moffatt was disappointed Chris didn’t say bye to the rest of the group, and feels “gutted” that he didn’t stay until the end.
She said: “I just wish he’d f******* said bye. That hurt my feelings.
“I’m shocked that he didn’t see it through till the end because I think he would have really got a lot out of it.
“I’m f****** gutted. I feel like I know as much about him as I did on the outside.”
‘Scared of the Dark’ presenter Danny Dyer has now been left wondering whether others will depart the show early, following Chris’ shock exit.
He said: “Dare I say it, he was sort of the fly in the ointment of the group dynamic.
“Could this be a domino effect? Could we start seeing them all fall?”
The final episode of ‘Scared of the Dark’ airs on Thursday (20.04.23) at 9pm on Channel 4.

Paul O’Grady will get guard of honour by dogs from Battersea as part of funeral service

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady’s funeral will feature a guard of honour by dogs from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
The late comedian and broadcaster – who rose to fame with drag alter ego Lily Savage – died aged 67 on March 28 due to cardiac arrhythmia, and his funeral is set to take place in Kent on Thursday (20.04.23) afternoon.
It has been revealed a number of dogs will form a guard of honour as a tribute to the extensive work he did as an ambassador for the rescue centre.
While filming ‘Paul O’Grady: For The Love of Dogs’, he rehomed five pooches from the centre, and more than £270,000 has been raised for the charity since his death.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army is expected to play during the service.
The funeral will begin with a procession at 2.10pm before a private ceremony at 3pm, but Paul’s husband Andre Portasio wants to recognise the bond the late star had with his local community in Aldington, where he lived for over two decades.
He told residents earlier this month: “We have therefore requested that the funeral procession passes through Aldington before heading to the church, as a way of marking Paul’s affection for the area.
“We would therefore like to invite all locals to join us in paying our respects to Paul in Aldington Village between 14:10 – 14:45 on Thursday.
“In order to avoid road congestion and public disorder, we kindly ask all residents to treat this invitation personally and if attending to stand on either Roman Road, Forge Hill, or New Road Hill so to respect the villagers and the local area.
“Please note for public safety Church Road as well as Knoll Hill will be closed on the day of the procession.
“We kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s wishes and maintain social distancing throughout the event. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.”

Missing X Factor star Levi Davis feared to have drowned

OHMYGOSSIP — Levi Davis is feared to have drowned after he went missing late last year.
The 24-year-old former ‘X Factor: Celebrity’ contestant and rugby player was last seen at the Old Irish Pub in Barcelona on October 29, but his family has revealed police told them his phone was last registered with a phone tower near Barcelona’s commercial port.
In a statement, his family said: “Extensive work has been done to track Levi’s movements on the night of the 29th October and they are able to confirm that following his last reported sighting at the Hard Rock Cafe, Levi walked back down La Rambla and entered the commercial port.”
His mother Julie Davis and friend Richard Squire met local police earlier this week for an update on the ongoing investigation.
The statement added that his phone “last registered in the early hours of Saturday 30th October” with a phone tower “at the far end of the port closest to the sea entrance”.
Meanwhile, cruise ship staff have reported attempting to save a man in the water on the night he went missing.
Levi’s family added: “Four staff confirmed seeing a man in the water with specific details including him asking for help in English and the colour of his clothing.
“A life jacket was thrown from the ship and emergency sea and air rescue services searched the area but they were unable to find him.”
The investigation is ungoing, with the family asking for people to respect the privacy of his loved ones.
Levi competed on the celebrity edition of ‘The X Factor’ in 2019 alongside fellow rugby players Thom Evans and Ben Foden as group Try Star, and the trio finished fifth.
The following year, he appeared on ‘Celebs Go Dating’, and had gone to Ibiza to work on some music after signing a record deal.
HIs friend Richard dropped him off in Ibiza Town on October 28, with Levi telling him he was going to Barcelona and would call when he got there, but he hasn’t seen or heard from him since.

Louis Leterrier to return as director for Fast and Furious 11

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Leterrier will direct the 11th ‘Fast and Furious’ film.
The 49-year-old filmmaker stepped in to replace Justin Lin behind the camera on ‘Fast X’ and has now been tapped to helm the following movie, which is set to be the final flick in the high-speed franchise.
Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer said: “Louis joined the ‘Fast and Furious’ team seamlessly, with an innate understanding of the franchise that is stronger than ever after two decades.
“Under his direction, ‘Fast X’ is a high-intensity thriller with all the spectacular action, emotion, and twists that the fans have come to expect – and then some. We are thrilled that he will continue to work his magic in the director’s chair.”
Louis was drafted in to direct ‘Fast X’ after shooting had started last year and previously admitted that he nearly turned down the project as he “couldn’t fathom” getting behind the camera without any preparation.
The ‘Clash of the Titans’ director said: “I said no. I couldn’t fathom doing this. It’s just impossible. It’s just massive. Doing any movie, any TV show, anything without prep is crazy, let alone doing the biggest movie in the biggest action franchise of all time.”
Louis tried not to change too much of Lin’s vision for the film but was soon able to put his own stamp on proceedings.
He explained: “At first, I was like, ‘OK, what did Justin do? Can I see storyboards? Can I see shot lists?’ I took it all in.
“And then you find your bearings, and it becomes yours. I had a short runway, but I had the best crew in the world – Justin’s crew. We were in sync from the get-go.
“The analogy is: when I do French shows, I’m used to driving a little Renault; and here it’s a Dodge Charger where everything is perfectly tuned. And it’s like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve never felt that power.’ It’s exciting.”

Brian Cox cast in coming-of-age movie Little Wing

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Cox is to star in the coming-of-age film ‘Little Wing’.
The ‘Succession’ actor is attached to feature in the Paramount+ project alongside Kelly Reilly, Brooklynn Prince and Che Tafari.
The film is now in production in Oregon and is being directed by Dean Israelite from a script by John Gatins.
The movie has been a passion project for Israelite for a number of years and is inspired by a New Yorker magazine article by Susan Orlean.
It tells the story of Kaitlyn (Prince), a 13-year-old girl who is drawn into the world of pigeon racing as she reels from the divorce of her parents and the pending loss of her home.
She hopes to solve her family’s financial problems by stealing a valuable bird but ends up forming a bond with the owner who cultivates her love of the sport.
Cox stars as Jaan, the pigeon racer, with Reilly as Kaitlyn’s mother Maddie, and Tafari as her classmate and friend Adam.
Brian played media mogul Logan Roy in the hit TV series ‘Succession’ and admitted that he felt “nothing” when he filmed his final scenes on the show.
The 76-year-old star told Variety: “I felt nothing when I played the last scene [on ‘Succession’]. Nothing! It was the last scene, finito.”
Brian added that he is happy that the show is coming to an end as he feels that American TV programmes can go on for far too long.
He said: “American series live well past their sellout date: This one won’t do that. HBO would love us to go for as long as ‘Game of Thrones,’ but thank God it won’t happen. I would find it hard-going to be saying ‘F*** off’ to people for the next 10 years, although it’s the nicest thing to say to someone. You can actually say how you feel.”
