Dexter Fletcher ‘flipped expectations’ on Ghosted

OHMYGOSSIP — Dexter Fletcher wanted to “flip expectations” on ‘Ghosted’.
The 57-year-old director has helmed the new Apple TV+ movie that stars Ana de Armas and Chris Evans and wanted to move away from the norm in the plot for the romantic action-adventure film.
Dexter told the Metro newspaper’s 60 Seconds column: “My pitch for ‘Ghosted’ is: boy meets girl. He really gets into her, thinks she’s kind of wonderful, mysterious and fantastic.
“So he follows her to the other side of the world, only to find himself embroiled in a crazy adventure where he’s way out of his depth and she’s his only means of survival. Does that sound good?
“It’s a movie that’s all about flipping expectations and having fun. But I’ll say you get to see Chris Evans being the damsel in distress for a change.”
Scarlett Johansson had been supposed to star in the film before having to drop out and Dexter was determined to get Ana on board after watching her performance in the James Bond flick ‘No Time To Die’.
The ‘Rocketman’ director said: “‘Ghosted’ was Chris and Scarlett originally. Then there was a clash with another project that Scarlett had to do, so she regrettably had to leave.
“I’d not long before seen Ana in the Bond film ‘No Time To Die’ and said, ‘Well, if we’re gonna have to pivot, then Ana de Armas is the one.’
Dexter added: “Also, no spoilers, but there are more than a couple of surprises in there. Let’s say when you’ve got Chris Evans as your star and producer, he’s ‘connected’ and he’s not afraid to pick up the phone.”

Guy Ritchie bans guns from his film sets after Rust tragedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Guy Ritchie has banned real guns from his film sets following the ‘Rust’ tragedy.
The 54-year-old director is a veteran of the action genre and many of his movies feature firearms but he only used Airsoft pellet weapons on his new film ‘The Covenant’ – which stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a US Army sergeant who returns to Afghanistan in an attempt to rescue an interpreter who helped him during the war.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by a prop gun with real bullets fired by actor Alec Baldwin in October 2021 on the set of the Western film and Guy says “the whole game has changed” since the incident.
He told Newsweek magazine: “That whole thing has changed now, the whole game has changed. We haven’t used a real weapon since (the ‘Rust’ shooting). So there were no real weapons. It’s the first shoot that we had, which I have to tell you, it’s a tremendous relief for all of us.
“(Airsoft weapons) look as good as real weapons, they do all the functions as a real weapon. You get a gas discharge. It all seems as authentic as it can be, but as Jake said, it’s Airsoft though. No one can get it any trouble.”
Guy confessed that he never enjoyed using guns during the making of his films and the ‘Rust’ shooting made him re-evaluate the process.
The ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ director said: “I’ve never liked real firearms.
“I had no idea why we carried on in the industry with real firearms. It was just one of those things that everyone did, and it’s a tremendous relief, as I’m sure it is for Jake, as much as it is for me, that you don’t have that sword hanging over us any longer.”

Jennifer Aniston wants to make a third Murder Mystery movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston is all for making a third ‘Murdery Mystery’ film.
The 54-year-old actress stars alongside close pal Adam Sandler in the mystery comedy Netflix movies, starting with the 2019 original and this year’s sequel, and she hopes Nick and Audrey Spitz will be back for more antics.
Speaking to Best UK, she said with regards to another instalment: “I hope so. I would love to make it three and I know Adam would. too.
“But it really all depends on if people love this one like they did the first, and of course, if Netflix want us.”
The former ‘Friends’ star – who, along with Adam, serves as a producer on the movie – was recently asked whether she and Adam stick to the script entirely or whether they ad-lib and admitted that it can be a mix of both depending on the take, as the pair both noted how much they make each other laugh on set.
She told Collider: “We do a little bit of everything. Yeah. Usually, there’s always something a little different from take to take, wouldn’t you say?”
Adam replied: “Yeah, yeah, yeah. We like to make each other laugh.”
Jennifer added: “Which is fun, and he does all the time. And it usually makes it in the movie, not the break, but the line.”
‘Murder Mystery 2’ is streaming now on Netflix.

Scarlett Johansson rules out Marvel return

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Johansson says she is finished with Marvel.
The 38-year-old actress – who debuted as Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’, before going on to star in the ‘Avengers’ movies along with 2021’s ‘Black Widow’ – insisted that she has no plans to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
Speaking to Gwyneth Paltrow – who starred as Pepper Potts in the ‘Iron Man’ movies – on ‘The Goop Podcast’, Scarlett said: “Yeah, it was awesome. It was like the best time ever. I mean, doing ‘Avengers’ was so much fun. I was 26 years old, I was single, it was fun! You know… I didn’t have any responsibility to anybody but to just enjoy yourself.
“And then every couple of years, we would go back, and do it again, and all be in different places in our lives. Like, somebody would have a kid, or was getting married, or divorced, or remarried, or whatever. And it was like, I don’t know, an adult summer camp thing. And it was cool. It was really, really some of the best experiences.
“I’m done. Yes, I’m done… Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do. Also, coming back and playing a character again and again like that, over a decade of time, is such a unique experience.”
Scarlett also had kind words for Marvel boss Kevin Feige, saying: “He’s such a lover of cinema, storytelling. He really is a fan.”
Meanwhile, the pair also discussed the possibility of Gwyneth, 50, returning to the MCU.
Gwyneth said: “I think so. I mean, I didn’t die so they can always ask me.”
Scarlett replied: “I think you may come back at some point. One-hundred percent, that’s happening. I can see it. They’re never gonna let you go. Break out that wig, baby.”
Gwyneth quipped: “Really? A 64-year-old Pepper Potts? How great.”

Coronation Street stars confirm it’s the end for Ryan and Alya’s romance

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ stars Ryan Prescott and Sair Khan have confirmed Alya Nazir and Ryan Connor’s romance is over.
Alya – played by Sair – has vowed to stand by her ex-boyfriend Ryan, portrayed by Prescott, as he goes through recovery in hospital following an horrific acid attack, but she no longer has romantic feelings for him.
On Monday’s episode (17.04.23), Ryan confessed he was still in love with Alya, but was crushed following her rejection.
Sair said: “It’s been incredibly difficult for Alya to see Ryan this way and the shock of the event has really hit her.
“She saw him earlier in the day, before the acid attack, and everything was fine and then so quickly, his life changed. A lot of the residents on Coronation Street have been through life-changing events but Ryan’s is one that is so physical and so painful and Alya has never seen or experienced something like this before.
“She is trying to be sensitive but she’s in shock, seeing someone she cares about so deeply in so much pain. It’s been really difficult for her and it’s been quite hard for her to hide her reaction.”
Ryan Prescott added: “Ryan was gutted.
“It’s the icing on the cake and when Alya shoots him down, even though it’s in a really nice way, it’s the reconfirmation of, ‘No one is going to love me. No one is going to accept me.’ Having someone to love is a huge driving factor in Ryan’s life and he now starts to think that he is never going to have that again. He is so vulnerable and so alone in this state.”
But Sair insisted her character isn’t up for “receiving any kind of love” for now.
She added: “I don’t think she has the capacity to love in the way that she would want to love him, and she isn’t open to receiving any kind of love at the moment herself.”

Idris Elba will race Lewis Hamilton in new show

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba will compete against Lewis Hamilton in a new show.
The ‘Luther’ star will take on the Formula One driver in a race across the Saudi Arabian desert in a new two-part series, titled ‘Idris And Hamilton Race The Desert’, which is set to air on Channel 4.
It will see Idris, 50 and Lewis, 38, take on the Dakar Rally – a long-distance rally that takes places over a course of a few days – in electric 4×4 vehicles.
A TV source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Idris is a self-confessed speed freak and was determined to make this a tough race for Lewis.
“The course is one of the toughest in sport, with the rough terrain a constant hazard for drivers.
“But that didn’t put either Idris or Lewis off as they were desperate to out-do each other, and their rivalry was captured brilliantly on camera.”
Lewis and Idris have been pals for years and it seems their friendship has rubbed off on one another, with the actor expressing his interest in fast cars.
In 2013, Idris filmed a two-part documentary series for the BBC titled ‘Idris Elba: King Of Speed’, which followed the actor on his pursuit of fulfilling his life-long ambition in becoming a rally driver.
In July last year, the ‘American Gangster’ star announced an initiative to find future racing talents for underrepresented communities in motorsports.
Speaking to the Standard, he said: “I’ve always had this soft spot for cars, engines, motorsports – anything with a steering wheel basically, and sort of married the idea that I’m someone who has always wanted to put an opportunity on the table. I stood in parliament, spoke about diversity and talked about talent being everywhere, but opportunity not.
“I was an inner-city kid, immigrant working-class parents, opportunities for me were really through what I could get at school, maybe a youth club here and there, but other than that if I wanted to be in motorsports there was almost zero opportunity.”

The Russo brothers would consider making Batman film

OHMYGOSSIP — The Russo brothers are open to directing a Batman movie.
The duo have helmed a number of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and are willing to work with DC Studios boss James Gunn on a new project involving the Caped Crusader.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Joe Russo said: “Obviously James over there running it, it would be a no-brainer.
“We love him to death. We love the direction that he’s going to take that world in. You know he’s gonna be inventive with it.”
Joe added: “And favourite DC characters? I mean, man. There are so many good ones. I always answer based on the comics I collected as a kid, and the two comics I collected the most were Spider-Man – actually, the three – were Spider-Man, X-Men and Batman.
“But there have been a lot of iterations of Batman, so I feel like that’s an obvious answer.”
Anthony said: “But, you know, it’s hard not to answer that. Here’s how you know we haven’t actually gotten literal about it and specific about it is because, yeah, Batman would be my favourite character for my entire childhood. But obviously, it’s been well explored.”
Meanwhile, the siblings previously revealed that they have never been “precious” about the future of the movie business despite their position of influence in Hollywood.
Anthony told The Hollywood Reporter: “We love everything about classic cinema, but we’ve never been precious about that in any way, shape, or form.
“What has always excited us most is [the question], how do you move it forward? This is part of our philosophy in terms of not being precious about theatrical distribution. How do you get away from the old models? How do you reach audiences that haven’t been engaged before? That’s all the most interesting stuff to us.”

Killers of the Flower Moon author David Grann hails Martin Scorsese movie

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ author David Grann is impressed by Martin Scorsese’s movie adaptation.
The Western crime drama will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month and Grann praised how the cast and crew for capturing the story of how the newly-created FBI tried to solve a spate of killings targeting the Osage Nation tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s.
The author told Vanity Fair magazine: “I did visit the set for a few days. And I was, again, just really impressed by how they managed to bring these historical figures to life and capture the hidden truths about the story.
“Leo (DiCaprio) just seemed to just be able to capture the nature of Ernest Burkhart, and the level of complicity of his character, and this evil system. And Lily Gladstone brings Mollie to life with such sensitivity and emotional power, at least in the bits I saw.”
Grann continued: “What I was struck by from Scorsese to the actors was the level of commitment and how much research they did to understand the parts and understand the history.
“They just seemed voracious, a little bit like historians, in their search for any knowledge, transcripts, documents, speaking to descendants, speaking with members of the Osage Nation.”
Grann was also pleased that the ‘Cape Fear’ director worked with the Osage Nation during the film’s production.
He said: “One of the things that was most really impressive and important in the development process was less my involvement, but the involvement of members of the Osage Nation.
“And early on, the Osage chief, Geoffrey Standing Bear, appointed several movie ambassadors from the Nation, from the government, to work with the movie folks.
“From everything I’ve heard, they really worked with a commitment to working with the Osage Nation, developing a story, even shooting on location. Many Osage are actually acting in the movie.”

Richard Wilson was relieved to say goodbye to Victor Meldrew

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Wilson was relieved when it was suggested his comic alter ego Victor Meldrew be killed off.
The 86-year-old comedian had grown “wearisome” of playing the angry old man in ‘One Foot in the Grave’ – which ran from 1990 to 2000 – and was sick of fans shouting his catchphrase, “I don’t believe it”, while out in the street, so he was pleased when showrunner David Renwick came up with an idea to end the show for good.
Speaking in upcoming documentary ‘One Foot in the Grave: 30 Years of Laughs’ – which will air on Channel 5 on Friday (21.04.23) – Richard said: “I’d been doing it for quite a long while and I was getting a bit wearisome of being angry all the time.
“David said, ‘I’m thinking of killing Victor. What do you think?’ I said, ‘Kill him. Do it’.”
“I got the catchphrase shouted at me everywhere. In foreign countries, I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s got here as well’.”
But while Richard was aware the show was ending and Victor would be killed in a hit-and-run, it came as a shock to the rest of the cast when they received their scripts.
Angus Deayton, who played neighbour Patrick, said: “I had no idea that it was going to be the final series until I saw the script for the last show and saw that Victor was going to die.”
And Doreen Mantle, who starred as Jean Warboys, added: “I was very sad. I didn’t want the series to end. But it was time that it ended.”
Richard praised his co-star Annette Crosbie, 89, who played Victor’s long-suffering wife Margaret, for her comedic work.
He said: “She had never done a sitcom. But she was a very good comedian. She was quite straight, in many ways. But her comedy was very well done.”
Angus added: “Richard’s character is obviously the sort of serious one and Annette is a slightly lighter, jollier one. Annette was actually the more serious of the two and Richard was always playing jokes, keeping everything light and jolly.”

Ana de Armas found shooting Ballerina ‘demanding’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ana de Armas found filming ‘Ballerina’ “really demanding”.
The 34-year-old actress is playing the lead role in the ‘John Wick’ spin-off and she threw herself into the gruelling fight scenes to play the dancer assassin, who is out for revenge following the death of her family.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ about the film: “That is gonna be really another level. That movie was really demanding!”
Ana was delighted to reunite with Keanu Reeves, who she previously starred opposite in 2015 horror thriller ‘Knock Knock’.
She added: “You know, I love the John Wick universe and I loved working with Keanu again.
“It’s a great character and it’s a great story, it’s beautiful on screen. I’m very excited for that one.”
The Oscar-nominated star can next be seen in ‘Ghosted’ and she was thankful she already had some experience of action movies thanks to her roles as CIA Agent Paloma in ‘No Time To Die’ and Dani Miranda in ‘The Grey Man’ because she thinks it would have been “really hard” if she’d never done anything so physical before.
She said: “[Training for ‘Ghosted’] was kind of like an escalation of the level of action that I was learning [before].
“[With] Paloma, I had very little [action training], but it was very intense, with a great crew, and that for sure, you know, allowed me [have a good base of knowledge].
“Starting from zero in this movie would have been really hard.”
Ana previously admitted she had been left “in pain” after filming her fight scenes for ‘Ballerina’ but didn’t want to complain too much because Keanu tackled them with such ease.
Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in January, she said: “We’ve been in Prague filming for four months. We still have one more month to go. And I’m in pain. You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised…
“Bond was fifteen minutes. This is a whole movie, another level. But the other day, Keanu and I were rehearsing our very difficult stunt scene, and this man is just rolling and throwing me and doing crazy stunts.
“And I’m like – I can’t complain anymore. Because he is doing it! He truly is the best.”

Lauren Harries in ‘recovery’ after undergoing emergency brain surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Harries is in recovery after undergoing emergency brain surgery.
The 45-year-old star’s mum Katy has told fans her daughter still has “memory issues and confusion”, and she asked supporters to pray for Lauren.
On Tuesday night (18.04.23), Katy wrote on Lauren’s official Twitter account: “Yesterday they moved Lauren back to recovery, she is under close watch. She still has memory issues and confusion. The doctors say that she does not need another operation atm they are taking it day by day. Please pray for her and send her your love. Thank you for your kindness (sic)”
On Saturday (15.04.23), Katy revealed Lauren would’ve died if she hadn’t gone under the knife.
She tweeted: “Lauren has woken up after her brain surgery. They had to shave her hair. As you know this is Laurens worst nightmare but she would have died if not. The amazing staff in the Heath Hospital have been wonderful. Thank you for your kind words, her recovery ahead. Update to follow. (sic)”
On her own Twitter account, Katy wrote: “Please pray or send good thoughts to my precious daughter Lauren @LaurenHarries. Who is recovering from emergency brain surgery today.”
In August 2019, Lauren told how she was “retiring from public life” after being rejected on ‘Naked Attraction’ for being “too old”.
She stripped off for the Channel 4 show – on which hopeful singletons get to see their potential dates nude bodies before they see their faces – but was ditched by hunky suitor Rigby who, after seeing her figure, decided he wanted someone younger.
Lauren – who underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2003 – was not happy with the snub and later vowed to give up the fame game.
In an interview with the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column, Lauren said at the time: “I am retiring from public life and leaving social media. I won’t be on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. I am giving it all up. It’s because I cannot take all the negativity towards me. After ‘Naked Attraction’ there was loads. Over the years the trolls have been quite horrendous. I’ve posted videos of myself singing and dancing and had such cruel comments. I am now thinking, ‘Why am I putting these videos out for people hiding behind their computers to come out and abuse me? I am just giving them an excuse to write horrible things about me.’ It has to stop now. ‘Naked Attraction’ is really like my swansong.”
Lauren went into the ‘CBB’ house in 2013, finishing third, and has also appeared on ‘Trust Me – I’m A Beauty Therapist’ and ‘Celebrity Juice’.

Natalie Cassidy: EastEnders is on the up

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Cassidy says the morale on ‘EastEnders’ is “fantastic” at the moment, and she believes the soap is “on the up”.
The 39-year-old actress has portrayed Sonia Fowler on the BBC One soap since 1993, and she is still “really happy” working on the programme.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I drive into work, I go to ‘EastEnders’ and I think I’m really happy at the moment.
“The place is great, the morale is fantastic, all the people are great, the writing’s great.
“Of course, you have the dips and the ups and it’s on an up and it’s lovely.”
Natalie’s comments come after her former co-star Danny Dyer recently hinted at a potential feud on the BBC One soap, after admitting he didn’t “love” all of his fellow Albert Square residents.
The 45-year-old actor – who played Mick Carter for nine years – admitted there are “a few” of the show’s stars he won’t miss much.
When asked on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ who he will miss the least, he said: “There’s a few of them actually, I ain’t going to lie. I won’t say [who], you know. Most of them I love dearly. Not all.”
Jonathan asked: “So they know who they are, though?”
Danny said: “I would have thought so.”
The star admitted it was “very emotional” departing the soap, but he stank while shooting his final scenes, in which his landlord alter-ego got lost at sea.
He added: “I tell you what it is, I’m lazy. It’s f****** hard. Thirty pages you’ve got to learn a day. It’s like a film a week. My final scenes were in the sea, in Ramsgate at 2am. We did the exteriors in the sea and the interiors you go to a water tank. But EastEnders couldn’t get Pinewood, so we had to go to Basildon.
“It’s all warm and lovely but to make it look like the sea they put broccoli juice in it. You smell of a***. It’s f***ing broccoli juice. Warm broccoli juice. It was very emotional, but I stunk.
“If it goes t*** up I can go back. I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed…
“They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”
