Sonia would love Coronation Street role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sonia wants a role in ‘Coronation Street’.
The ‘You’ll Never Stop Me From Loving You’ singer recently filmed four special episodes of ‘Hollyoaks’ to celebrate Eurovision coming to Liverpool and previously appeared in now-defunct Scouse soap ‘Brookside’, but her biggest dream is to walk on the famous cobbles
She told HELLO! magazine: “I would love to have a massive part in ‘Coronation Street’. Fingers crossed!”
The 52-year-old star represented the UK at Eurovision 30 years ago, coming in second place with ‘Better The Devil You Know’, so she’s thrilled her home city has been chosen to host this year’s competition because winners Ukraine were unable to stage the competition due to the war with Russia.
She said: “I am super excited. When I competed in 1993 I always said to everyone that if I won, we had to bring it back to Liverpool.
“Now it’s 30 years later and my dream has come true.
“It’s amazing for the city and it’s only right that it was chosen because Liverpool’s musical heritage alone is just unbelievable.
“The whole place is buzzing now, everyone is so excited. It’s going to be unreal.”
Sonia will be on stage at Eurovision as she will be part of The Liverpool Songbook, a performance during the interval.
She added: “It’s been the most unbelievable experience – all my costumes have been made by the people from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – and I can’t wait to meet everyone and just enjoy it all.
“Last time I was in competition with 25 people but this time it’s just going to be complete enjoyment.”

Joel Dommett expecting first child with wife Hannah Cooper

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett is expecting his first child with his wife Hannah Cooper.
The ‘Masked Singer UK’ host and his wife – who got married in 2019 – announced Hannah’s pregnancy with some sweet polaroid pictures of the couple and her baby bump in a message shared on both their Instagram accounts.
Hannah cheekily captioned the post: “Does anyone know how to change a nappy? Because Joel has s*** himself.”
Fans and fellow stars have been quick to offer their congratulations to the parents-to-be, and it seems Fearne Cotton had seen the potential signs before the big announcement.
She commented: “I thought you had a twinkle in your eye the other night! Im so happy for you both (sic)”
Former ‘Love Island’ host Laura Whitmore – whose husband Iain Stirling officiated the couple’s wedding – added: “Fun times ahead!! So happy for ye! (sic)”
Radio 2 DJ Zoe Ball wrote: “The greatest news for yous. ahhh best job ever too BIG LOVE. (sic)”
And singer Olly Murs said: “Oh wow huge congrats joel and Hannah x”.
Joel previously admitted he thought about trying to reschedule their wedding when he got approached to host ‘The Masked Singer’, but Hannah was having none of it.
He told ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ shortly after the ceremony: “They said ‘[ITV] want you to do The Masked Singer, although these are the dates’.
“I said to my wife, ‘I think I’ve just been given a really big opportunity, biggest of my life, but it’s the day of the wedding.’ ”
While Hannah wouldn’t make the change, ITV did manage “to slide The Masked singer back a little bit”.
Meanwhile, Joel recently chopped a bit of his thumbnail off while he was preparing some chives for a romantic dinner for him and Hannah, but he couldn’t find the nail and let fate take its course as to which of the them ended up eating it.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures column: “‘I was like, ‘OK, it’s in the cooker now and there’s a 50 per cent chance it’s going to be eaten by me, and 50 per cent it’s going to be eaten by her.
“We ate, and I was watching her the whole time. She got the nail and said, ‘What’s that?!’ I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m so sorry!’ ”

Carol McGiffin has been missing Loose Women due to contract issues

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol McGiffin has been missing ‘Loose Women’ over issues with her contract.
The 63-year-old presenter – who first appeared on the ITV daytime show when it launched in 2000 and returned in 2018 after a five-year break – hasn’t been seen on screen for a while, and she has claimed the deal she was offered was “totally unjust and unworkable”.
She told Best magazine: “The problem was, ITV were insisting, for the first time since I went back in 2018, that if I wanted to carry on doing the show, I would have to sign a contract that was totally unjust and unworkable for me, so I had to say ‘no thanks.’ ”
And while she admitted leaving the show is her decision, she is still “upset” about her absence.
She added: “I feel quite upset about it, if I’m honest, because although it is my decision, I felt like it was one I was being forced to make. No one in their right mind would have signed that contract. And I can’t see a way back from it.”
Several of her ‘Loose Women’ stars have replied to a post sharing her story on Instagram and admitted they are sad to see her go.
Frankie Bridge and Denise Welch both replied saying they are “gutted”.
Charlene White echoed their sentiment and added: “I really miss you, and am so gutted xx”
Brenda Edwards commented: “Carol, I always enjoy when you are on as we have such a laugh, but you of course must always do what is best for you! I really hope I get to see you again love you lots lovely lady. Keep Smiling.”
And Nadia Sawalha said: “Miss you smelly poo! Even though we disagreed on most things you’ve always made me laugh my head off!
“As I’ve always said thank god we weren’t at school together it would have been #carnage !! Big hugs x”

Sir Tony Robinson says parts of iconic Blackadder scene were created to cover up ‘ghastly’ footage

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tony Robinson says the end of ‘Blackadder Goes Forth’ was made to hide “ghastly” footage.
The ‘Time Team’ star – who played Baldrick on the beloved BBC sitcom – has admitted that the poignant final scene in the World War 1 series, which sees Rowan Atkinson’s Edmund Blackadder and his men charge over the top into gunfire before going in slow motion a slow piano version of the theme is played, fading into a field of poppies.
The 76-year-old actor told the ‘Midnights Meets’ podcast: “You had to finish recording by 10 pm in those days.
“It looked ghastly, we only had one take, there was no camera rehearsal, it wasn’t shot properly. All of that was done in post-production by people other than us.
“Sometimes adversity can create something which would never have happened if everything had gone swimmingly.”
Recently, Tony gushed about how “delighted” he was to be involved in marking four decades since the Richard Curtis and Ben Elton-created comedy series.
He said: “I’m delighted to be part of its 40th birthday celebrations on Gold. It’s been wonderful to journey back to where it all began and chat to some of the biggest names in comedy who made it all happen.”
The ‘Walking Through History’ star teased that something was coming to celebrate ‘Blackadder’ following the recent Comic Relief special.
Tony told Christine Lampard during her stint hosting Lorraine Kelly’s ‘Lorraine’: All I’m gonna say is…everybody likes to celebrate a 40th anniversary, so there must be some fresh way we can celebrate our 40th birthday, wouldn’t you think?”
He also confirmed the rumours that Prince William was a massive fan of the classic series as they bonded over his love of the show when he got his knighthood in 2013.
Tony said: “This is absolutely true. You know how showbiz people make up stories? This is really true. “When I was being knighted by Prince William, almost 10 years ago, I was down on my knees, he brings the old sword down and he said: “I am such a fan of Blackadder” and I said to him: ‘Would you be on it?’ “He said: “Yeah, if you asked me”. So in other words, I was casting whilst I was knighting!”

Dame Prue Leith wants ‘sensible’ Alison Hammond to clean up The Great British Bake Off

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Prue Leith wants “sensible” Alison Hammond to make ‘The Great British Bake Off’ less saucy.
The 83-year-old judge is “glad” the ‘This Morning’ presenter is replacing ex ‘Little Britain’ star Matt Lucas’, 49, and hopes she will make the Channel 4 baking competition less innuendo heavy with her “charming and funny” personality when she joins the team completed by host Noel Fielding, 49 and judge Paul Hollywood, 57.
Prue told Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on their ‘Dish’ podcast: “I never get the jokes, you know… all this stuff about innuendo and things.
“I feel I’m really glad Alison’s coming, cause at least she’s a woman and she’ll be a little more sensible.”
The ‘I’ll Try Anything Once’ author detailed how the trio of Paul, Matt and Noel behaved like “children” around certain foodstuffs.
She added: “Those three men, they’re like three children. The word sausage puts them into…,” before she and the podcast hosts burst into a fit of giggles.
Alison, 48, was confirmed to be Matt’s replacement in March after the comedian spent three seasons on the show following its move from the BBC.
She wrote on an Instagram post: “It’s OFFICIAL!!! It’s happening The Great British Bake off! Let’s have it!”
Along with the caption, the video included a press conference acted out by figurines modelled after the stars of the show via voice over provided by the television personality.
Alison said: “Breaking news everyone. Alison Hammond is joining the team of the ‘Great British Bake Off’. Alison, have you got any words whatsoever?”
As the camera zooms into her iced doll, she can be heard saying: “Do you know what? I’m just so very excited. As you can see, all my colleagues are absolutely speechless. We’re so very happy, and we can’t wait to get started!”

Simu Liu hated Barbie body waxing

OHMYGOSSIP — Simu Liu hated having to wax his body for ‘Barbie’.
The 34-year-old star will play a variation of Ken in the much-anticipated new movie and didn’t enjoy getting rid of all of his body hair to achieve the character’s doll-like features.
Speaking to Variety at the Met Gala, Simu said: “It was incredible… minus the body waxing.
“Yeah, Kens don’t… you got to present an even, doll-like complexion. To do that, you gotta get rid of the hair. I mean, within reason! But, there was a lot of waxing where I have never waxed before.”
He added: “Aside from that, it was incredible. A wonderful, vibrant set, so much of it was practical. So much singing, and dancing and music.”
Simu explained that the trailer released for ‘Barbie’ last year is a perfect encapsulation of the film – which is set for release in July.
The ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ star told People: “It was pretty much what you see in the trailer. I feel like you can kind of surmise what kind of experience we had filming it just by watching the trailer. It’s so much fun.
“The dancing, the laughing, all of that. That was every single day for us on set. So now to finally see that in a work form is actually surreal because we just felt like we were having fun the whole time.”
Ryan Gosling plays a separate version of Ken in the movie and credits co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig for “conjuring” the character out of him.
He said at CinemaCon recently: “I have to be honest, I had up until this point, I only knew Ken from afar. I didn’t know Ken from within.
“If I’m being really honest, I doubted my Ken-ergy. I didn’t see it. Margot and Greta, I feel like they conjured this out of me somewhere.”

James Gunn has grown as a director on Guardians of the Galaxy

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gunn believes that his work on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has made him improve as a filmmaker.
The 56-year-old director has helmed all three movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise and has been educated in all aspects of movie-making through his work on the pictures.
James told Screen Rant: “I learned so much about directing (by) directing these three movies. I learned so much about storytelling in terms of what works and what doesn’t work over these three movies. I learned so much about working with actors.”
The director explained how Marvel president Kevin Feige taught him the valuable lesson of never giving up on a film even if the quality is lacking.
James said: “I learned a lot from Kevin Feige about how you don’t give up on a movie; you just keep pushing it no matter what. You can’t give up on something. Even if it’s not the greatest movie, you’ve got to make it better.”
‘The Suicide Squad’ director thinks that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ fans feel like “lives are really at stake” in the flick as he isn’t shy of killing off beloved characters in his movies.
He told Collider: “I don’t think that killing characters is necessary.
“One of the things I’ve discovered over the years as I’ve killed characters in different movies, people know that I’m willing to do that.
“So, you know, I killed — I killed. [Laughs] Yondu died in Vol. 2. Original Groot died in Vol. 1. In ‘Suicide Squad’, I killed everybody practically. I killed a major character in ‘Peacemaker.’ ”
Gunn thinks that films need to have some kind of believable threat to the character.
He explained: “So people know I’m a guy who’s willing to go there, and I think that the movies have to feel like that.
“Whether it’s true or not, the movies have to feel like their lives are really at stake, and in most movies, I don’t feel like that.”

Amanda Abbington set for Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Abbington is in talks to join ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 49-year-old ‘Sherlock’ actress is considering competing in the upcoming series of the BBC dance show as it is an ambition of hers before she turns 50.
Amanda has two children with ex-husband Martin Freeman, who she split from in 2016, and is engaged to escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, who was left paralysed in 2021 after a stunt on ‘America’s Got Talent: Extreme’ went wrong.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Amanda has had a rough ride over the past seven years and just recently has she come out the other side.
“The accident only brought Amanda and Jonathan closer together and she’s keen to start a whole new chapter in her life.
“Part of that is taking part in ‘Strictly’ because it’s a long-held ambition of hers and one she is on track to fulfil before her milestone 50th birthday next year.”
While Amanda has no interest in most reality TV shows, ruling out an appearance on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, she has long been vocal about her desire to compete on ‘Strictly’.
Speaking previously to The Independent, she said: “Why would you want to be in the jungle for three weeks and eat testicles with Joey Essex for money? It’s like going back to Bedlam, watching people doing horrible things for entertainment.
“The only thing I’d love to do is ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. I love the idea of learning something. This is an official application. But I’m sure me being on it would be its downfall. The curse of Amanda Abbington strikes again!”

The 89-year-old Dame Edna Everage star passed away in hospital earlier this month after suffering complications from hip replacement surgery and his family have held a private funeral for him at the Bowral estate of longtime friend and artist Tim Storrier in New South Wales’ Southern Highlands.

Barry’s wife Lizzie Spender was at the ceremony, along with his two sons, Oscar and Rupert, who flew in from London, his daughters Emily and Tessa, brother Christopher and sister Barbara.
No speeches were made but excerpts some poems, including ‘The Heart of a Friend’ by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, were read out.

“With over 70 years on the stage, he was an entertainer to his core, touring up until the last year of his life and planning more shows that will sadly never be.
“His audiences were precious to him, and he never took them for granted.
“Although he may be best remembered for his work in theatre, he was a painter, author, poet, and a collector and lover of art in all its forms.
“He was also a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend and confidant to many. His passing leaves a void in so many lives.

Patrick Murray ‘in agony’ since cancer return

OHMYGOSSIP — Patrick Murray has been in “agony” since his cancer returned and spread.
The 66-year-old actor – who is known for starring as Mickey Pearce on ‘Only Fools and Horses’ alongside Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst – was first diagnosed with lung cancer in the summer of 2021.
However, although he underwent an operation the following October to remove the tumour before enduring rounds of chemotherapy, the cancer has now returned and left him in terrible pain.
He told The Sun: ““It has been absolute agony, murder.
“Every time I put my weight on my legs and hips I’m screaming in my head as I’m trying to walk.
“The loo for me is 10 yards away, and when I get there I feel like I’ve walked half way round the world.
““I’ve been putting off getting a wheelchair because I thought I wasn’t ready for it yet.
“It’s just not a nice thing to leave behind.
“Morrisons, Asda and Dunelm have provided me with a wheelchair at the door and one of those little buggies.
“It was awesome because it meant I could get around and do my shopping with the missus.
“But I’ve had radiology treatment which is starting to work.
“The pain is getting less, which is fantastic.
“I should be able to walk again soon.”
Although the cancer has returned, Patrick’s doctors have told him he has years left to live, thanks to advances in chemotherapy.
He said: “I’ve gone in there thinking, ‘The doctor is going to tell me there’s no chance they can sort this out — it’s spreading, it’s in my blood’.
“But he sat me down and said, ‘We’re going to put you on chemo.
“We should be able to monitor the situation for a few months and years and we’ll keep it under control’.
“I said to him, ‘Did you really say years? I’ll take that’.”

Bobby Davro’s fiancee has pancreatic cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Bobby Davro’s fiancee is battling pancreatic cancer.
The 64-year-old comedian is trying to “smile through the absolute agony” of his long-term partner Vicky Wright’s “devastating” illness but admitted things haven’t been easy.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “To see someone as beautiful as her with this illness is horrific. It’s so sad.
“It’s extremely, extremely, extremely painful…
“My best advice for someone in a similar position is that laughter is the best medicine.
“I always remember this quote, ‘Don’t let the world change your smile – get your smile to change the world’.”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor has just finished a short Easter panto run in ‘Rapunzel’ and is on stage for a charity comedy show on Sunday (30.04.23) and admitted he’s grateful he’s got work to distract him from his 63-year-old partner’s health woes.
He said: “Thank goodness I’ve got my work, because it keeps my mind off this for a bit of time.”
“I don’t want the fact I’m keeping working to sound selfish. Everyone who knows me knows it’s just a distraction for a bit of time from trying to help Vicky. I need to see people laughing, and I like that I can still make people laugh while dealing with this.”
Vicky – whose dad died from the same form of cancer – was diagnosed last year and Bobby hopes opening up about what the couple are facing can help other families.
He said: “Vicky’s illness is a tragedy, and it’s been a personal and family tragedy until now. But now I hope talking about it can help other people.
“There are millions of other people with partners and wives and husbands who are going through the same thing. I just want to tell them you have to push forward and get back up – and never, ever let life beat you.”

Jeff Stelling quits Soccer Saturday

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Stelling is leaving ‘Soccer Saturday’.
The 68-year-old broadcaster has presented Sky Sports’ weekly football show for 25 years but confirmed on the show on Saturday (29.04.23) he will be hanging up his microphone at the end of the season.
Jeff – whose announcement was greeted by applause from the pundits on the panel – later said in a statement: “I’ve been at Sky for more than 30 years and loved every moment of my time as part of the Soccer Saturday team.
“It is now the right time to move on and give Sky Sports viewers a break from my relentless rants, bad gags and over the top celebrations of Hartlepool United goals. It’s been a lot of fun – for me at least.”
Sky Sports paid tribute to the former ‘Countdown’ presenter.
Sky Sports’ director of football, Gary Hughes, said: “Jeff has been synonymous with Saturday afternoon football for decades, exciting and enthusing football fans everywhere.
“His unique broadcasting ability and passion for the game has made ‘Soccer Saturday’ an unmissable fixture for fans and has won him a multitude of awards.”
Jeff had announced in October 2021 he would be leaving the show, but later agreed to stay on for the 2022/23 season.
He originally said on air: “This is my decision. There has been no pressure. Sky have been absolutely brilliant with me, as they always have done. I am not intending to retire but it is time to let somebody else have a go at what is the best job in the world.
“I wouldn’t want to get to the stage where I’m calling Raith Rovers ‘Roath Ravers’. I’m going to be here until May, when I’ll be leaving the show and the company.”
But less than six months later, he confirmed he had changed his mind.
He said: “Sky Sports is my home, and the ‘Soccer Saturday’ team are a big part of my life.
“As the end of the season approached, and I was preparing to say goodbye, I realised that I was not ready to blow the final whistle and leave the best job in the world.”

Matthew Lawrence lost Marvel role after refusing to strip for director

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Lawrence claimed he lost a role in a Marvel movie and was dropped by his talent agency after refusing to strip for a “very prominent” director.
The ‘Boy Meets World’ actor insisted he has been “propositioned” a number of times in his career and he’s still particularly shocked by his alleged treatment after he refused to get naked during a private meeting in a hotel room with the unnamed Oscar-winning filmmaker.
Speaking on his ‘Brotherly Love’ podcast, Matthew said: “There’s been many times in my life where I’ve been propositioned to get a huge role.
“I’ve lost my agency because I went to the hotel room, which I can’t believe they would send me to, of a very prominent Oscar award-winning director who showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off and said he needed to take Polaroids of me.
“And then if I did X, Y and Z, I would be the next Marvel character. I didn’t do that, and my agency fired me because I left this director’s room.”
The 43-year-old actor didn’t say when the alleged incident happened or what film he was supposed to be discussing.
Matthew also hit out at the double standards that occur when male actors have spoken about being subjected to sexual harassment in their working environment, compared to the experiences women have when they share details of how people have behaved towards them.
He said: “Terry Crews comes out and says it; people are laughing at him. People don’t support him. They kick him out.
“Why? Because he’s a man that represents masculinity, and I think our society is less ready to hear that situation going on with men than they are with women.
“Not a lot of guys in my opinion have come out and talked about this in the industry. There is also this same situation. Now granted, it’s probably about a third of what women go through. The amount of men… Men go through this as well, whether it’s another woman or another man in power.”
