Rob Marshall was challenged by underwater scenes on The Little Mermaid

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Marshall was daunted by the underwater scenes on ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The 62-year-old director has helmed the live-action remake of the Disney animated film and had to draw on all of his previous experience behind the camera to shoot the watery sequences required for the flick.
Rob told ComicBook.com: “It was definitely daunting and a challenge. I mean, as I started, I thought, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’ But I have to say, if I hadn’t done all my movies prior to this, I wouldn’t have been ready for this one because it was so complicated.
“I mean, everything had to be choreographed in advance so that we could actually take all of that information and give it to our stunt team.”
The ‘Chicago’ director continued: “All of the underwater work was literally done on rigs, you know, apparatuses, wires. And sometimes in one scene, you know, many times in one scene, they’d say two lines. I’d say ‘Cut’, and we’d put on another apparatus for a couple more lines. It was all done in little pieces, like a mosaic for even just one scene.”
Melissa McCarthy – who stars in the film as antagonist Ursula – admits that she was blown away by how “technically impossible” the underwater scenes seemed to be.
The ‘Bridesmaids’ actress said: “I’ve never seen anything look like that. I just can’t process how technically impossible that seemed to be and how you never thought about it, just watching you’re like, ‘Of course, I’m underwater.'”
Melissa added: “Every hair is digital, all the movement. You know we each had, what, like seven, eight people that were a part of our team to help keep that kind of undulating. It took a lot of people to make it look so effortless.”

Vanessa Kirby wowed by Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible bravery

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Kirby was astonished by Tom Cruise’s fearlessness on the set of ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’.
The 35-year-old actress reprises her role as the White Widow in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ and recalled being present on set in Iceland for the project’s sequel when Tom parachuted from a motorcycle after riding it off a cliff.
Speaking to Variety, Vanessa said: “He did it many times in one day. He did it consecutively… and repeatedly so he could capture all the different angles and sides of it.”
The ‘Crown’ star was “inspired” by Cruise’s calm approach to the stunt and says that working with the Hollywood legend is why she enjoys being in the franchise so much.
She recalled: “He was just so calm. He had no fear. He found it just exhilarating. That kind of belief in cinema and what one could achieve and his passion for it is so inspiring. He kind of believes he can do the impossible and then he does. I love being a part of the franchise. I’m really excited to come back.”
‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ will be released next year and the project is expected to be the climax to the long-running series of films, although Vanessa is tempted to do even more.
She said: “I would hope they would have me. My character, I love playing because she’s kind of unusual, strange and fun and ambiguous.”
Despite suggestions that the franchise is nearing its conclusion, director Christopher McQuarrie is open to making another film.
The 54-year-old filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly: “Look, we’re still shooting eight and there’s any number of ways that that story could play out.
“When you’re watching ‘Mission: Impossible’, and watching the team go through these adventures, you’re having some sense of what it’s like to make a ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie. There’s always a plan, the plan always changes, everything goes completely awry, and hopefully everything always turns out alright in the end. But you never really fully understand, or trust where it is you’re going, until you get there.”

Myleene Klass wins I’m A Celebrity… South Africa!

OHMYGOSSIP — Myleene Klass has won ‘I’m A Celebrity… South Africa!’.
The 45-year-old TV star – who first appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ back in 2006 – has been crowned as the winner of the all-star series, after she came through a series of brutal trials.
Following her success, Myleene – who has Hero, 12, and Ava, 15, with her ex-husband Graham Quinn, as well as Apollo, three, with Simon Motson – said: “I had a ball the first time. This time round, I’m a mum and that changes everything.
“You don’t want to let your children down, you don’t want to say something that will embarrass them. You don’t want to bottle out of a trial.”
Myleene also revealed that her kids were desperate to see her on ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
She shared: “We sat down and had a big conversation about it as a family.
“Both of [my daughters] were just begging me to do it. I said to them I’ll be as strong as I can be, I wanted to show them, and other little girls, keep walking through the fire.
“In the 16 years since I last did the jungle, I’ve really been tested and had to really hold [my] nerve.”
Myleene overcame the challenge of Jordan Banjo to claim the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ crown, after they competed in a final eating trial.
Jordan, 30, subsequently admitted to being proud of himself, despite losing out to Myleene.
He said: “The first time I was in the jungle, I came ninth. I’ve just learnt that.
“I’ve been telling everyone for the last six years I came seventh. I was a bit shocked, I didn’t realise I did that badly first time.
“So coming up ninth to second is a huge achievement. Very very happy, very proud of myself but as you saw, Myleene in that final … no one else was coming first.”

Willem Dafoe joins Beetlejuice 2 cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of ‘Beetlejuice 2’.
The 67-year-old actor is the latest actor added to the star-studded line-up for the sequel to the 1988 supernatural comedy that sees Tim Burton returning to direct.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe will play a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.
The new movie features a combination of both original and fresh cast members with Michael Keaton returning as the titular ghost and Winona Ryder reprising the part of Lydia Deetz.
‘Wednesday’ actress Jenna Ortega has been cast as Lydia’s daughter, Monica Bellucci is to play Beetlejuice’s wife and Justin Theroux is to feature in a role that is not yet known.
Production on the project is underway in the UK ahead of a September 2024 release date.
The original movie was a critical and commercial hit and told the story of a couple of ghosts who enlist a spirit named Beetlejuice to help them rid their home of its new inhabitants.
Composer Danny Elfman – who will be reunited with longterm collaborator Burton on the ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel – recently suggested that Michael “won’t look much different” as the character despite more than three decades having passed since the original movie.
He told Deadline: “I said, ‘He’s not even going to look that much different. That’s the beauty of the ‘Beetlejuice’ make-up. He already looked like he was 150 in the first one.’
“It’s perfect, you know? Everybody else has to play the next generation, except for Michael. I mean, he’s still like really fit and really active and really on it.
“And with the ‘Beetlejuice’ make-up, I can’t even imagine it’s going to look like he’s changed practically at all. So, I can’t wait for that.”

1973’s The Exorcist is even too scary for The Prince of Darkness aka Ozzy Osbourne

OHMYGOSSIP — Ozzy Osbourne and his Black Sabbath bandmates were “s*******” themselves watching 1973’s ‘The Exorcist’.
The Prince of Darkness – who once unknowingly ate a real bat onstage – has revealed his “favourite” horror movie “freaked” him and his fellow bandmembers “out” so much that they had to go and see another film to get over it, which made him feel like a fool with his nickname.
The 74-year-old heavy metal icon recalled to Metal Hammer magazine: “Our manager came to us one day when we were on tour and says, ‘You have to go and see this film called The Exorcist. We said, ‘The Exorcist? What the f*** does that mean?’ He said, ‘Just go and see it.’
“We were in Philadelphia in this f****** movie theater and we were s******* ourselves! That one was just so real. We were freaked out! Here we were, Black Sabbath and I’m the Prince Of Darkness and all this, and we had to go see another movie — [1936 Paul Newman caper film] The Sting —just to stop thinking about it. It was so amazing.”
Meanwhile, Ozzy previously shared how he swore off acid after a horse he spoke to for an hour told him to “f*** off” during a drugs trip.
The ‘War Pigs’ rocker kicked the class A substance after swallowing them like sweets during his rock heyday while conquering America.
He was quoted in the Daily Star last year as saying: “At that time in America, people were very fond of lacing your drinks with acid. I didn’t care.
“I used to swallow handfuls of tabs at a time. The end of it came when we got back to England. I took 10 tabs of acid then went for a walk in a field. I ended up standing there talking to this horse for about an hour.
“In the end the horse turned round and told me to f*** off. That was it for me.”
The ‘Paranoid’ hitmaker – who has Parkinson’s and has a longstanding spinal injury – recently announced he is retiring from touring the world due to poor health.

OHMYGOSSIP — Myleene Klass has praised ‘I’m A Celebrity’ for giving her “family and a career”.
The 45-year-old TV star – who first appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ back in 2006 – has just been crowned winner of the all-stars series ‘I’m A Celebrity… South Africa!’ and revealed she returned to the show because she was so grateful for everything it gave her.
She told The Sun newspaper: “The jungle back in Australia gave me my family, gave me my work, gave me my career.
“I wanted to go to the bush as I wanted to say thank you for what the jungle has given me.”
However, Myleene admitted she felt some extra pressure on her return to the jungle.
She said: “The first time round, I wasn’t a mum so there was no jeopardy if I ran around the jungle for a few weeks in a white bikini. I had a ball the first time.
“They say don’t go back to an ex and don’t go back to a reheated dinner.”
And Myleene missed her kids terribly while competing on the show.
She said: “You’re so far from home, I missed my children so much. But they made me a necklace and every trial I just held on to it.”
Runner-up Jordan Banjo, 30, praised his co-star, saying: “Myleene is one tough cookie; she smashed everything that came her way.”

Lady Forsyth, 65, was married to Bruce for 34 years before his death in 2017 at the age of 89 and she admitted she is considering entering the dating world for the first time in decades.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden at the Cauldwell Butterfly Ball, she said: “I’ve been thinking maybe it’s time to start dating.
“I haven’t had the time to think about dating because I’m so lucky to have so many amazing friends. I’ve been going out with some friends for dinners, but I haven’t really found an admirer.”
Wilnelia and Bruce first met at the 1980 Miss World competition gala in London and lived together in Surrey until his death.

“I try to be strong for the family, but if I told you it’s been easy I’d be lying. I miss Bruce every single day. He was my mentor in a way.
“He had so much knowledge about everything and was such an easy person to talk to. I could speak to him about absolutely everything.
“I talk to him all the time anyway, but I miss sharing all the good news in the world, and the bad.”

‘If you don’t like what I’m doing, fire me’: Jamie Lee Curtis told Freaky Friday to get rid of her

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Lee Curtis told the director of ‘Freaky Friday’ to “fire” her.
The 64-year-old actress – who is said to be reprising her role as Tess Coleman in the sequel to the 2003 Disney body-swap comedy alongside her on-screen daughter Lindsay Lohan (Anna Coleman) – has recalled being told by Mark Waters that editor Bruce Green was concerned that her “performance was a little big”.
The ‘Halloween Ends’ star told him to trust her, otherwise, he could get rid of her, and she ultimately ended up proving the editor wrong.
Jamie recalled to The New York Times: “The first day, we shot the scene where we pull up to the school. I’m the teenager and I’m completely flummoxed because this hot guy [played by Chad Michael Murray] is walking over. My body freezes up. Mark came up to me the next day and said, ‘My editor is wondering if the performance is a little big.’ I looked at him and said, ‘My instinct is all I have to go with. If you don’t like what I’m doing, fire me. I will regret dyeing my hair red, and other than that, it will be fine. But this is what I’m going to do.’ Years later, I was at the Aero Theater [in Santa Monica] and the editor, who was sitting in front of us, said, ‘By the way, I was so wrong.'”
Elyse Hollander has been hired to write the script for the sequel, while Lindsay has revealed that she and her co-star are open to reprising her role.
The 36-year-old actress told the newspaper: “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
Jamie revealed that she’d approached Disney about the possibility.
She said: “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”

Michelle Keegan’s imposter syndrome

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Keegan felt like an “outsider” on ‘Coronation Street’.
The 35-year-old actress was just 19 years old when she landed a role in the ITV soap but admitted she had “imposter syndrome” during her time in Weatherfield.
When asked if she had ever felt out of her depth, she told Radio Times: “Probably my first job, probably when I first started ‘Corrie. I still get it a little bit now, the imposter syndrome. A lot of people talk about that and I’ve still got it now.
“I think when I first started ‘Corrie’, I was only 19 and it was my second ever audition. I went into the audition and I had not an inkling that I was going to get the job; I purely went to see what it was like to be in an audition room and meet directors and stuff. I didn’t think for a second I was going to get the job so when I did get the job, I was like ‘Ok, what the hell do I do now?’”
Michelle admitted she was a big fan of ‘Coronation Street’ before joining the soap so she was extra nervous.
She explained: “I’d watched ‘Corrie’ all my life – my family were massive fans of ‘Corrie’. I remember walking into the green room and seeing certain chairs and I was thinking, ‘Am I allowed to sit in the chair? Is that someone’s chair?’ I was the outsider, I didn’t understand where I fitted in at all.
“It took me a while to get my groove in ‘Coronation Street’, especially walking on the cobbles. I remember seeing Ken Roach, who plays Ken Barlow, walking towards me and I couldn’t get my head round the fact that Ken Barlow was walking towards me. So yeah, probably back then.”

Dannii Minogue vows I Kissed a Boy will be groundbreaking

OHMYGOSSIP — Dannii Minogue says ‘I Kissed a Boy’ will be “groundbreaking and probably shocking to a lot of people”.
The former ‘X Factor’ judge is the host of the UK’s first gay dating show and hopes that it will lead to “more representation” for the LGBTQ+ community on TV screens.
Dannii told Radio Times: “The one thing I do think about this show is that I hope that it opens a space where there can be more for the community, more representation on TV.
“I have friends that, you know, they love ‘Married at First Sight’ and they love ‘Love Island’, and they love all these different shows – why shouldn’t there be a gay version of that?
“I think that hopefully, this keeps the door open for possibilities, all sorts for the entire community. I think that representation is vital to not only how people see themselves, but how they’re seen within a community of people and by their friends and family and how those relationships, you know, evolve by the visibility.
“I think it’s going to be, unfortunately, groundbreaking and probably shocking to a lot of people to see two boys kiss on TV. Hopefully we get to a point where that is history and it’s not like that anymore.”
The eight-part BBC reality show, features 10 single men who arrive at an Italian villa in the hopes of finding love at first kiss after sharing a smooch with the contestant they are matched with.

Brie Larson, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez back all-female Fast and Furious

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Larson, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez “would love” to make an all-female ‘Fast and Furious’ spin-off movie.
The actresses are currently promoting ‘Fast X’, the tenth installment of the series and not only do they love working together, they think a women-focused action film would be good for the wider movie industry.
Discussing the prospect, Brie told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I don’t think we’d be mad about anything that involved ladies all together.
“It was very clear that we would love to spend more time together.”
Jordana added: “Here’s what I would like to see. I would like to see Charlize [Theron], me, Natalie [Emmanuel], Michelle, Brie. I would like to see us all kick some a** together!”
And Michelle agreed: “There’s nobody better. I’m all about it! Bring it!
“God knows Hollywood could use one of those. We don’t have any good ones, not really, really good ones.”
The women are proud there are now so many women at the forefront of the franchise.
Michelle said: “I’m just over the moon. It’s just really extraordinary.”
Charlize paid tribute to Michelle, who was the original female star of the movie series, for the work she has done to encourage more women to be involved with the movies.
She said: “[Michelle] was really the push behind [my casting], and has been for I think all the females that have joined this cast so I’m really grateful to her putting it out there, saying we should do this.”
One other person who could potentially join an all-female ‘Fast and Furious’ would be Meadow Walker, the daughter of the late Paul Walker, who starred in the first seven films but died in a car crash in November 2013.
Meadow has a cameo role in ‘Fast X’ and recently revealed she had been “waiting for the right moment” to honour her dad.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ of her appearance: “I’ve always thought about honouring my dad [in a ‘Fast’ film] just because it’s such a big part of his life and my life.
“I wanted it to be something super small and simple that was almost like an Easter egg. Like, if you didn’t know who I was, you wouldn’t even notice it. I know that’s what my dad would want. My dad was always humble, very simple. I left my little mark and I can always share that with him.”

Natalie Portman loves filming in France for this reason

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman has praised the family-friendly filmmaking model in France.
The 41-year-old actress – who has son Aleph, 12, and seven-year-old daughter Amalia with husband Benjamin Millepied – has had “life-changing” experiences working on projects in the European country because the days were structured in a way she could spend the evenings with her family, and she admitted it is much “harder” for parents working on sets in the UK.
Discussing Sarah Polley’s efforts to allow cast and crew to maintain a family life while making ‘Women Talking’ last year, Natalie told The Hollywood Reporter: That’s something that I see a lot in France, and I think it’s why the entire new generation of French filmmakers is female, because it’s really possible.
“Not that every woman has kids or wants kids, but it makes it possible to be a director and to have children and be a good parent. You have a strong social system that has child care, and the workday hours are normal.
“We shot ‘Jackie’ in France, and I did a French film called ‘Planetarium’ as well. I was home every day for dinner at 6 p.m. — just completely life-changing. When you make a film or a series in the U.S., you’re just gone. You’re just gone, and it’s really hard on all parents.”
The ‘May December’ actress is keen for her production company, MountainA, to shine a spotlight on female stories.
She said: “Where it’s united is, how can we see as many different versions of women as possible? And I think that’s where you get to equality, where women can be anything. They can be criminals, virtuosic athletes, brilliant, not brilliant. I think when you get the more variety, the more expression, there’s more possibility.”

Doctor Who reveals special episode titles

OHMYGOSSIP — The titles for ‘Doctor Who’s three upcoming specials have been revealed.
David Tennant is back in the Tardis as the Fourteenth Doctor for the upcoming episodes – which are expected to air in November – and after three coded teasers were scattered through BBC One over the last few weeks, with each containing a binary code, they were finally announced on Saturday (14.05.23) when a new trailer aired on the night of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The episodes are called ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’, and ‘The Giggle’.
The trailer saw David in character alongside Catherine Tate, who is back as Donna Noble, as well as Yasmin Finney as Rose, and an appearance from Neil Patrick Harris.
The specials will also pave the way for the introduction of Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.
Showrunner Russell T. Davies said: “The titles are just the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet.
“Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna, and disaster about to be unleashed!”
The producer previously revealed Ncuti’s series will feature just eight episodes plus a Christmas special.
He recently told Doctor Who Magazine: “The Fifteenth Doctor’s first full season will be eight episodes long, with a Christmas special, making it nine episodes every year, and when I say Christmas, that’s my generic term for festive/end-of-year/holiday or New Year, you’ll have to wait and see. OK, that’s fewer episodes than the last full season. But give us time. We have plans, and that’s a promise.”
The ‘Queer as Folk’ creator admitted that while the sci-fi show – which last aired a full series in 2021, and a string of specials earlier this year – is set to return to the BBC for the trio of episodes this year, hhe has already started work on the 2024 special, and promised there will be no more gaps between series.
He added: “For the first time ever, I’m writing a Christmas Special … at Christmas! And this isn’t for next year, no, the 2023 script has been long since signed-off.
“The new one is for end-of-year 2024! It takes a while to get the empire in shape, but that’s a serious plan: annual ‘Doctor Who’, no gap years, lots of content, on and on.”

Denise Van Outen came close to paralysis

OHMYGOSSIP — Denise Van Outen came close to paralysis while competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 48-year-old star had to undergo surgery after a disc “dislodged” into her spinal cord and she was warned by doctors that she was just fractions away from her injury being much worse.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “When I took part in 2012, a disc dislodged into my spinal cord and I needed an operation.
“I was told that if the disc had gone into my spinal cord slightly more, I would have been paralysed from the neck down.”
And that’s not the only time the former ‘Big Breakfast’ host has suffered major injury training for such a show, as she was also left in agony almost a decade later when she worked on ‘Dancing On Ice’.
She continued: “Then, during ‘Dancing On Ice’ in 2021, I fractured my shoulder in three parts. I can’t blame anybody – I was in shows knowing there was a risk.”
As a result, Denise has vowed not to take part in any more “dangerous” reality shows.
She said: “Now, if I get invited to do dangerous shows, it’s a straight no.”
Denise van Outen “lied every day” for weeks to land a role on ‘The Big Breakfast’.
The blonde beauty – who hosted the show alongside Johnny Vaughan – shared on ‘The Big Narstie Show’: “When I first went for ‘The Big Breakfast’, I thought I was going for the main presenting job, but then I found out I was actually auditioning for the weather girl.
“I thought – I’m just going to have to lie my way through this. So I pretended I had done a meteorological course. And I managed to get through it. And then I got the job, and I was like – s***, I don’t know anything about the weather! Because I’d pretended I’d studied it.
“When I started the show I had to ring up ITN in the morning and get the weather report from them! My first contract there was for six weeks, and I literally lied every day that I could do it, so I had to just make it up.
“But in the end of it, they offered me the main presenter role so it worked.
“But it got to the point where I was such a s*** weather girl that I was just flying round in the helicopter like, if you want to know what the weather is like just look out your window!”
