Gladiators cast 3 more stars

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Gladiators’ have revealed a further three stars who will take on contenders on the rebooted show.
Giant, Fire and Legend will compete in the upcoming BBC revival of the classic 90s challenge series, joining the previously announced Fury and Steel as part of the new generation of Gladiators ready to challenge a brave set of contenders in the 11-part series.
Fire, AKA Montell Douglas, is a former Team GB Sprinter and Olympic Bobsledder, and in January 2022, Montell made sporting history to become the first female UK athlete to compete at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
She said: “I’m so pleased I’ve been asked to be Fire!
“Being a Gladiator has been a secret lifelong dream of mine.
“As a strong and powerful woman, I’m living proof that you can achieve your dreams, no matter what age or background, if you believe and keep pushing. I’m ready to light up the competition!”
Former firefighter turned bodybuilder Giant, AKA Jamie Christian Johal, is 6ft 5inches he has made history by becoming one of the all-time tallest bodybuilders.
He said: “I feel like everything in life has lead me here.
“I’m honoured to be part of this iconic show that I watched as a child.
“I’ll be bringing my Giant stature and personality so contenders better come prepared.”
Legend, AKA Matt Morsia, is a former Championship bronze medal-winning long and triple jumper, and silver medal winning powerlifter.
The Gladiator joked he is going to do “irreparable damage” to the show’s contenders.
He said: “I’ve been training like a beast for the show but realistically I didn’t need to.
“I could’ve spent the last two months eating doughnuts and playing Dungeons and Dragons and I’d still be better than everyone else.
“I’m called Legend for a reason! I can only apologise for the irreparable damage I’m about to do to the contenders.
“Actually, that’s a lie, I’m not sorry at all. I’m actively looking forward to it.”

Eamonn Holmes in ‘a lot of pain all the time’, says former colleague

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes is in “a lot of pain all the time”, according to his ex-GB News colleague.
The former ‘This Morning’ host – who has been open about his health issues on social media – has been called “incredible” by his pal Saira Khan, who admitted she has “learned” so much from the 63-year-old television personality.
While talking about Eamonn, the 53-year-old broadcaster told Express.co.uk: “You know, I think he’s incredible because he’s in a lot of pain all the time.
“He really doesn’t moan about it, he just gets on with it and is amazingly professional and I learn and learned a lot from him.”
Saira believes Eamonn – who is married to ‘Loose Women’ anchor Ruth Langsford, 63 – finds it tricky to “switch off” because of his “love” of work.
She said: “You know, you’ve got to get on and do the job, despite the fact he’s in a lot of pain. I just hope he takes some time out to distress but I know with Eamonn and the same with a lot of people, that they can’t stop something they have dedicated their whole life to.
“You don’t see it as work, you just love doing it, so it’s very difficult to switch off.”
The ex ‘GMTV’ star recently confessed that “every day is a struggle” as he now heavily relies on a wheelchair during his recovery process from a fall, which occurred while he was recovering from back surgery.
Eamonn told the Daily Express newspaper: “Every day is a struggle. Normally I don’t like doing nothing. Now? I can’t move for long and walk. I can do 30 or 40 steps and then I need a chair. My broken shoulder has caused no end of problems.
“I spend two hours a day in the gym. I’m not trying to lose 2lbs a week. It’s not about keeping fit. I am literally trying to regain the use of my legs and feet with different trainers and physios. It costs a fortune and I do understand I am lucky to be able to pay for it.
“My right foot won’t do what I tell it to, so I am literally doing brain exercises to open the nerves between the brain and my foot. Walking can be retaught and that is what I’m working on for now.”

Louis Leterrier hints at more Fast and Furious films

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Leterrier isn’t ruling out more ‘Fast and Furious’ movies.
The 49-year-old director is helming the next two films in the high-speed franchise, which were thought to be the final installments in the long-running series, but he has now echoed star Vin Diesel by suggesting that there could yet be more pictures.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Louis said: “Let’s see what this one does. You know what’s beautiful about this franchise is that the audience gave the love and then the franchise kept growing and delivered for the fans, but also surprised them.
“Don’t shove it down people’s throats, but give people what they love. So let’s see (what happens next).”
Louis admitted that “it’s hard to give an answer” as to whether ‘Fast X Part 2’ will bring the curtain down on the franchise and pointed out that the coronavirus pandemic highlighted the uncertainty in the film industry.
The French filmmaker explained: “I mean, who knows? Two years ago we didn’t think that movies would ever exist anymore.
“Knock on wood, count my lucky stars that we’re making giant movies that are now being seen by millions of people around the globe. It’s amazing, and I’m so happy that we’re part of this summer where it feels like the excitement for movies is back.”
Vin Diesel, who plays the role of Dominic Toretto in the series, divulged recently that ‘Fast X’ will be the opening part of a concluding trilogy.
The 55-year-old actor said: “Without tipping the hat too much, I can say this: Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter.
“And after the studio saw this Part 1, they said, ‘Could you make ‘Fast X’, the finale, a trilogy?”

Halle Bailey was daunted to act without her voice in The Little Mermaid

OHMYGOSSIP — Halle Bailey found it “frightening” having to act without her voice in ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The 23-year-old star plays Ariel in the live-action remake of the Disney movie and discussed the limitations placed on her voice as her character trades the use of her vocal cords for human legs in a deal with sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) in the film.
Halle – who is one half of the music duo Chloe x Halle with her sister Chloe Bailey – told The Hollywood Reporter: “It definitely was a little frightening to play losing my voice, but it was also really cool because, as singers, we go on this thing called vocal rest whenever our voice is in distress or we use it too much. So it’s almost like this really cool meditative state that you get to go in, and it makes you just calm down and reset.
“So of course, there was a little bit of anxiety with me on set when I had to not talk and show all these emotions on my face, but it was a happy medium.”
The movie features a scene where Ariel bursts out of the water and flips her hair back and Halle confessed that it required several takes to perfect the shot.
She recalled: “Oh wow, we did a lot of takes of that, because there were so many technical elements to think about, and my hair is long. It was longer then, but it was so heavy. Whenever it gets wet in the water, it gets so heavy, but I actually had this amazing stuntman named Dan who helped me.
“He would hold my hair underwater and then he would throw it for me when I came up, so that it didn’t feel like such a weight on my shoulders. So we did it multiple times to get it just right.
“It looks so cool and perfect in the animated film, so we were trying to re-create that in real life.”

Ant and Dec QUIT Saturday Night Takeaway after more than 20 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec have quit ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’.
The Geordie duo began hosting the weekly variety show – which features a mix of segments including games, and celebrity performances – on ITV1 in 2002 and have gone on to win a slew of awards including NTAs and BAFTAs for their work but they have now decided that the show’s 2024 run will be its last outing for the time being.
In a video posted to Twitter on Thursday (18.05.23) evening, Ant said: “Hi everyone, we’ve got some news for you. Next year, in 2024, it will be our 20th series of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ and we’ve got some very exciting new items.”
Dec – who also hosts other hit ITV1 series ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ with his long-time screen partner – explained that they both “need a bit of a rest” amid their other ongoing work commitments.
Dec added: “And we’ve also decided that our 20th series next year will be our last one for a little while. The show takes up such a lot of our year, we just feel that we need a little bit of a breather and have a little bit of a rest.”
Ant and Dec – who initially found fame on ‘Byker Grove’ in the late 1980s – first fronted the show from 2002 until 2009 when the show went on hiatus and since its 2013 return, they have been joined by a string of co-presenters over the years including the likes of ‘Gogglebox’ star Scarlett Moffatt, magician Stephen Mulhern and Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo.
In 2021, the show – which relies heavily on participation from its studio audience – went virtual in order to allow the interaction to continue.

Barry Keoghan out of Gladiator sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Keoghan has dropped out of the ‘Gladiator’ sequel.
The ‘Banshees of Inisherin’ actor had been due to play Emperor Geta in Sir Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated movie, but he has now stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts, and ‘The White Lotus’ actor Fred Hechinger is in talks to replace him in the role.
Meanwhile, Deadline reports a string of new casting announcement for the film, including May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah and Matt Lucas, while Sir Derek Jacobi will be one of few returning cast members, reprising his role as Gracchus from the original 2000 blockbuster.
While many of the leading roles were offered to the cast, the director carried out an extensive search for the lead role of Lucius – the son of Connie Nielsen’s character Lucilla and Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the original film – which ultimately went to Paul Mescal, and ‘Moon Knight’ actress May had to go through a similar process, going through multiple auditions for her as-yet unnamed, but significant, part.
The new signings join a star-studded cast that also includes Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn, while Pedro Pascal is also in final negotiations and Connie will return as Lucilla.
Russell Crowe has ruled out returning as main ‘Gladiator’ character Maximus Decimus Meridius in the new project – which is due to be released in November 2024 – and explained that it won’t be a “direct sequel” to the Oscar-winning original.
Speaking on the ‘Fitzy and Wippa Podcast’, he said recently: “Yeah we’ve had dinner and talked about it and all that stuff. So I know roughly how he’s shaping the story.
“But yeah, if you remember, there was a young kid who wanted to beat the Gladiator, which leads to the ‘My name is’ speech. So that young kid has grown up, and he’s now the Emperor.
“I don’t know what else happens at that point, so that’s the idea. So it’s not a remake. And it’s not a direct sequel. It’s not like the day after, you know, 30 years later or something.”

Kate Garraway returning to host a new series of Life Stories

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway is to return to host a new series of ‘Life Stories’.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter took over from her former co-host Piers Morgan on the ITV interview series last year, after he departed ITV for TalkTV, and she will interview a trio of celebrities on a new three-part run of the programme.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, ‘Life Stories’ will be back in the autumn, and Kate’s first show of the new series will see her interview ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ dancer-turned-judge Anton Du Beke.
Kate’s first series aired in February 2022 when she interviewed former footballer John Barnes, ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner Nadiya Hussain, and singer Charlotte Church over three episodes.
Piers’ final episode was in December 2021, when he interviewed Kate before she took over fronting the show.
She previously said: “I’ve always loved having the chance to talk to people, both on air and off.
“Everyone has a story to tell and the wonderful thing about this show is that you have the airtime to delve into the areas of guests lives that the viewers might not know about already.
“It’s also a chance to understand more about the bits we do already know about, both good and bad, and hear it in their own words.”
During Piers’ chat with Kate, she opened up about the struggle her family has faced amid her husband Derek Draper’s long battle with COVID and the after-effects, for which he still receives 24/7 care at home.
Speaking on the show in December 2021, she said: “It’s devastated him. From the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system,
his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system.
“We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.
“He still can’t communicate, he still has issues with mobility. Fundamentally, he’s in a terrible state. Look, he’s alive, Piers.”

Ex-EastEnders star claims bosses ‘didn’t look after’ Danniella Westbrook and Paul Nicholls

OHMYGOSSIP — A former ‘EastEnders’ star has claimed “nobody looked after the younger actors” like Danniella Westbrook and Paul Nicholls during her time on the show.
Jacqueline Leonard portrayed Lorraine Wicks – the mother of Paul’s character Joe Wicks – on the BBC One soap from 1996 to 1997, but she found it “difficult to watch” some of EastEnders’ younger stars “getting into trouble”.
She told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Nobody really looked after the younger actors like Paul and Danniella. They were getting themselves into trouble and as a mother I found that difficult to watch.
“I didn’t like what I was seeing. I’d had enough. I was leaving on a high but it was definitely time for me to go.”
Jacqueline also claims there was a “hierarchy” on the show’s set.
She said: “There was definitely a hierarchy on set and I just kept away from that. But after some time of watching that, it was time for me to move on.”
But the star returned to the world of soaps this week, when she re-appeared in ‘Coronation Street’ as Linda Hancock, the mum of Izzy (Cherylee Houston) and Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote).
She added: “I’ve absolutely loved coming back to ‘Corrie’.
“I’m continuously grateful this character keeps coming and going. I would love to stick around, and the storyline could go in so many different ways.”
Jacqueline first played Linda in 2015 when she arrived on the cobbles as Owen Armstrong’s (Ian Puleston-Davies) ex-wife and the mum of Izzy and Katy.
The character returned to Weatherfield this week in time for Katy’s ex Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) wedding to Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

Staged series 3 heading to BBC

OHMYGOSSIP — A third series of ‘Staged’ is coming to BBC One.
David Tennant teams up with his wife Georgia Tennant in the show, alongside Michael Sheen and Anna Lundberg.
In the series, director Simon tries his best to get Michael and David working again after the two characters fall out with one another.
However, that proves to be a tough task, as the pair get to grips with life after lockdown.
David and Georgia starred opposite each other in 2008 ‘Doctor Who’ episode The Doctor’s Daughter, in which the actress and producer, 38, played David’s on-screen daughter Jenny, the cloned child of the 52-year-old star’s titular Time Lord character.
They teamed up again in lockdown as she starred in and co-produced David and Michael’s comedy series ‘Staged, but the star was initially told she wasn’t “convincing” enough to play David’s on-screen partner.
She previously told Radio Times magazine: “Nobody seemed to want to let me do it. For one part I was told by a casting director that I wasn’t a convincing partner for him. I was like, ‘But we’re married. With quite a few kids!’ So, basically, every actor who could possibly play the part would have to be eliminated in order for me to be allowed to play his wife.
David joked: “And anyway, imagine having to tell my wife that she was being played by someone else.”
Georgia really “enjoyed” being able to work with her husband, with whom she has her first-born son, 21-year-old actor Ty Tennant – who David adopted – and Olive, 12, Wilfred, 10, Doris, eight, and three-year-old Birdie
She said: “We enjoy it, and I feel like ‘Staged’ has proved it’s possible. I’d like to go back to that casting director and say, ‘See? I can play his wife!'”
David added: “I don’t think this is something we would have imagined we’d have done. But then suddenly in March, ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ is closed down and I’m airlifted out of South Africa and nothing’s happening, all bets are off. And then, well, the only thing we can do has to be from our house. And this idea presented itself.”

Tom Davis quit stand-up for 6 years due to ‘crippling anxiety’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Davis had to quit stand-up for six years due to “crippling anxiety”.
The 44-year-old comedian used to feel “really anxious” for a whole day ahead of one of his gigs, and it eventually got too much, leading to him to take a break from performing.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I stopped doing stand-up for about five or six years, questioning whether I was good enough, which wasn’t just an hour or so before the show, it would take over the whole day.
“From the moment I woke up I’d be really anxious. Over the years I’d dip my toe in but I found the anxiety so crippling I’d end up making an excuse to pull out.
“There’s a reason for stage fright, you might be about to step out in front of 5,000 people.
“My anxiety at times is a little bit more illogical and looking back I realise I’ve had it since before I was a stand-up comedian.”
The ‘King Gary’ star still suffers with “an air of anxiety” nowadays, and admits he can be triggered if his daily plan starts changing.
He said: “Once it gets to a level where it actually stops you doing things, then you have to start thinking about solutions. I still suffer from anxiety now – I think most people suffer with an air of anxiety if they’re honest.
“A trigger for me is I like to know what I’m doing – if things start changing or moving then I find that can spiral me a little bit.”
The actor has turned to exercise to “burn away” his anxiety, and it has resulted in him shedding three stone.
He added: “Every morning I try to do something physical, maybe go for a walk,” he says. “Either on my own or with my wife Kathryn and our young daughter – it burns away the anxiety.
“I also started doing body weight exercises and before I go on stage I do a bit of shadow boxing. I didn’t set out to lose weight but I lost two and a half to three stone.”

“From Tik Tok, stripping and sex toys to dominatrixes and the burgeoning Girlfriend Experience market, Olivia will pull back the curtain to give viewers an intimate perspective on Getting Filthy Rich in 2023.”
The 32-year-old television personality recently admitted she was “constantly surprised” while filming the first series.
She told Heat magazine: “I’m constantly surprised. I always think that I’ve seen everything, and then it gets to the next day of filming and I’m surprised again.
“This series, we delve into fetishes and the BDSM community, which was an eye-opener. The thing that never fails to blow my mind is how much money these girls make.”
The ex ‘Celebs Go Dating’ star also revealed she received “lovely messages” from her ex ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ campmates, such as Radio X DJ Chris Moyles and broadcaster Charlene White, after she was forced to depart the show early last year on medical grounds.
Olivia said: “A couple of them reached out afterwards and sent lovely messages, but I’m not in a situation where I speak to any of them regularly because I only spent a few days with them, and then they were there for two or three weeks without me.

The 59-year-old actor is attached to star in the psychological thriller from director Lorcan Finnegan.
‘The Surfer’ tells the story of a man (Cage) who returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, several years since building a successful life for himself in the United States.
He is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local surfing gang who claim ownership of the secluded beach of his childhood.

Classic Star Wars toy collection sells at auction for £322,000

OHMYGOSSIP — A vintage collection of ‘Star Wars’ toys sold at auction for £322,000.
The rare memorabilia fetched a sum of more than 10 times its pre-sale estimate when the mint-condition items went under the hammer at Vectis Auctions in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, last month.
The most valuable toy was a Kenner vintage ‘The Power of the Force’ Anakin Skywalker figure – as seen in the 1983 film ‘Return of the Jedi’ – which sold for £11,400 after being priced at roughly £5,000.
Auctioneers were also shocked when a Palitoy vintage ‘Return of the Jedi’ Security Guard figure, which had been estimated to sell for around £300, fetched an extraordinary £6,000.
A mint-condition Cantina Action Playset made by the same manufacturer sold for £4,320 having been valued at around £500 and a Kenner ‘The Power of the Force’ AT-AT Driver figure which the auctioneers estimated to sell for around £2,000 made £5,280.
Two other ‘The Power of the Force’ Yak Face figures both reached double their estimates – fetching £10,200 and £6,000 each.
The set of models date back to the film’s original trilogy, released between 1977 and 1983, and also included rare collector coins.
One ‘Star Wars’ fan told the Daily Star newspaper: “It was an incredible achievement due to the frenzy around the show. The figures were out of this world.”
