Production on Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune suspended indefinitely

OHMYGOSSIP — Aziz Ansari’s ‘Good Fortune’ movie has suspended production indefinitely.
The 40-year-old actor and writer was directing and starring in the movie alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves but Lionsgate has decided to shut it down amid the ongoing writers’ strike in Hollywood.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio hopes to resume production at a later date.
Although Ansari was not writing extra material during the strike as per union rules, filming had continued in Los Angeles.
However, last week the shoot in Koreatown was interrupted by picketers from the strike.
Speaking previously about the production, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group head Joe Drake said: “We have indeed found good fortune with this film. We love the script and believe strongly in Aziz as both a performer and a director.
“And when you add in Seth and Keanu – two incredible world-class talents – toplining alongside Aziz, this has the potential to be a very special film for us. We moved quickly to land this project once it was available.”
This is Ansari’s second attempt at directing a feature film.
His previous movie ‘Being Mortal’ was shut down permanently after an investigation was launched following an on-set complaint about star Bill Murray.
Murray told CNBC at the time: “I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way.
“The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it. and so they stopped the production.
“As of now, we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other. I think that’s where the real issue is, between our peace.
“We’re both professionals, we like each others’ work.”

Helen Flanagan’s ‘drama-free’ co-parenting

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Flanagan says co-parenting with Scott Sinclair is “pretty drama-free”.
The 32-year-old actress and the 34-year-old footballer – who have children Matilda, eight, Delilah, five and Charlie, two, together – split last year after over a decade together but Helen revealed they have been doing everything they can to make things easier for the kids.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I co-parent with Scott. We were together for a long time. So he lives with his mum in Bristol and I live in Manchester with the kids. I get on really well with Scott’s mum.
“I was with Scott aged 19-31, so that’s why I get on so well with his mum. So honestly it makes my life so easy because we hang out together. It’s really nice. It’s pretty drama free as I get on really well with her.
“The kids see their dad all the time, they see their nana a lot. We’re always in Birmingham a lot to meet with the kids half way.
“The kids have an amazing time when they are with me too. I have a friend that helps me, because obviously I work as well. I work nearly every day so I do have a friend that comes to help me because well, I’m not a superwoman. We do mum things, the kids all have different activities too. Then when they go to their dad, they have a lovely time with him. They’ve just been to Dubai actually for a week with their dad and had a lovely time.
“So I missed them when they were away, but it was a shock to my system when they were back. ”
However, Helen admitted she still suffers from “mum guilt”.
She said: “As women I don’t think we can ever win. I’ve got friends who don’t work at all, stay at home.
“Then they feel bad they are not working. Then I’ve got friends who work all the time and they feel guilty because they are working all the time. I just feel as a woman you can never win. I do feel like the happier you are as a mum, the better it is for your child.”

The 32-year-old actress played Rosie Webster in the ITV soap from 2000 to 2012 and reprised the role in 2017, before going on maternity leave in June 2018, and Helen revealed she would love play Rosie again.
Helen – who has children Matilda, eight, Delilah, five and Charlie, two, with her former partner Scott Sinclair – told The Sun: “I would absolutely love to go back to Corrie at some point. It’s just timing. “You know if you’re a mum, it’s working through things with the kids. I definitely want to do it at some point.”
Helen previously revealed she has been thinking about how Rosie might have changed in the years since she was last on screen.
She told The Daily Star newspaper: “I’d like to see Rosie be a mum, I think that would be interesting. I think she would palm Sally [Rosie’s mother] off with the kids and then just go and do anything that she wants.”
Last year, an insider revealed that ‘Coronation Street’ bosses would welcome Helen’s return to the show.
The source told The Sun newspaper at the time: “Helen’s talking about plans to return – not this year, but maybe late next year.
“Bosses have made it clear they’d welcome her back and she sees the soap cast as family.
“She misses them, and playing Rosie, a lot.”
Helen was previously happy to prioritise her relationship with former Chelsea star Scott.
But following their split, she’s now keen to return to ‘Coronation Street’.

The 61-year-old star has fronted the ITV1 daytime magazine show since 2002 but announced on Saturday (20.5.23) that he is to step down from the show with immediate effect.
He wrote on Instagram: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.”
Phillip – who initially hosted the show alongside Fern Britton from 2002 until 2009 and has appeared alongside Holly Willoughby ever since – went on to thank his fans for their support over the years and confirmed that he will be back on screen to present the Inside Soap Awards in June.
He added: “So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”
Following the announcement, Holly released a statement in which she thanked her former co-star for everything over the years, and according to ITV, she will remain in her position as she continues to front the show alongside other “members of the ‘This Morning’ family”, which could include the likes of Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle, all of whom have presented the show on various Fridays and school holidays as cover.

Ari Aster thinks it’s ‘lazy’ to compare him to other directors

OHMYGOSSIP — Ari Aster thinks it’s “lazy” to compare his work to other filmmakers’ movies.
The 36-year-old’s new horror drama ‘Beau is Afraid’ has drawn comparisons to ‘Blue Velvet’ filmmaker David Lynch’s work due to its surreal sequences, but Ari said he dislikes people drawing similarities between his and other directors’ projects.
He told NME: “I think that some of (the comparisons) have felt, to me, lazy.”
Ari added about also disliking being compared to two other directors, who he refused to name: “There are two others that I’ve seen that I’d rather not say. They’re artists who are drawing from the same well, but they weren’t in my mind.
“They struck me as a little bit obvious, even though I didn’t see (the similarities) myself… it’s not a defensive answer… but I feel that we end up metabolising the art that we love. It becomes just a part of our vocabulary.”
The ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’ director’s three-hour ‘Beau’ epic stars Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix, 48, as an anxiety-addled man whose journey to see his mum leads to encounters with GBH, home invasion and a 16-foot penis monster.
Ari said about the disturbing opening moments of the film, shot from the point of view of a baby being born: “The idea is to thrust you into the character’s overwhelming experience of the world, to do something that is jarring.”
The director also praised Joaquin’s work ethic on set, saying he turned up heavily prepared with a huge list of questions about the script.
He added: “I had the feeling that everything was going to be spontaneous. That he’d only be able to do things once – and that he wouldn’t even know what he was gonna do.
“We often worked through the scene a lot before we shot it… he had a very strong idea of what he would do.
“Joaquin has such an intense work ethic that you don’t need to come up with these ideas… he’s already in a place of deep investigation.”

Rachel McAdams’ mum desperate for her to make ‘Game Night’ sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel McAdams’ mother is desperate for her to make a ‘Game Night’ sequel.
The 44-year-old actress had a great time working on the 2018 action comedy – in which she played Annie Davis – and she’d love to make a follow-up film, partly because she enjoyed collaborating with directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, but also because she doesn’t want to disappoint her mom, Sandra.
She told Empire magazine: “You know, right after my mom saw that movie, she was like, ‘You have to do a sequel’.
“I would totally be down for that. I love (John and Jonathan) and I love a game night, so it’s the perfect package for me.
“Also, I don’t wanna disappoint my mom.”
Rachel also hasn’t ruled out making a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after last appearing as Christine Palmer in ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’, despite the apparent closure in the relationship between her alter ego and the titular superhero.
She said:” You never know what’s going to happen with the MCU, right?
“It’s vast and endless so – to be continued.”
The ‘Notebook’ actress admitted working on the comic book franchise was a lot tougher than she’d imagined.
She said: “What I took away from it is green screen acting is hard.
“And that you have to be really fit to make a Marvel movie.
“I had to really tap into my figure-skating, sporty side from another life.”

Dame Penelope Wilton says loss of her older sister is ‘absolute worst’ thing about life

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Penelope Wilton says the loss of her older sister is the “absolute worst” thing about life.
The ‘Downton Abbey’ and After Life’ actress, 76, was left devastated when her older sibling Rosemary died in January last year aged 80, and said her passing still feels raw.
Dame Penelope, famed for playing widowed Isobel Crawley in ‘Downton’ and grieving widow Anne in Ricky Gervais’ ‘After Life’, told The Daily Telegraph when asked to described “the absolute worst” thing about modern life: “The loss of my elder sister Rosemary 18 months ago from the effects of Covid was the worst, because your sibling is in your life the longest of all your family members.
“Her death is still very fresh to me, so these are sad times. She was seven years older than me and had started to fall a lot, so she was not in a good state to catch Covid.
“Although she actually got over the virus, she had to go into hospital because her breathing was not good – and she caught a chest infection there.
“She was a brilliant woman and a wonderful television producer for the BBC’s Arena arts programmes, such as ‘The RKO Story.’”
The twice married mum-of-two added her other hatreds of life included social media.
She said about the “worst” things in the world: “The extremes: no one seems to listen to anybody else. There’s no compromise, even though life is about compromise. Social media is a wonderful thing in some respects, but not when it’s having a malign influence on young people.
“I’m on WhatsApp for the family, but generally it wastes time when I could be doing something else.
“As for mobile phones, people are better about turning them on in the theatre now, but it used to happen a lot – and it was incredibly off-putting when they went off – I would find my voice rising to try to hide the sound.”

Phillip Schofield ‘set to keep series of other ITV shows with or without Holly Willoughby’

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield is reportedly set to keep his roles on a series of other ITV shows.
The veteran 61-year-old TV broadcaster announced on Saturday (20.05.23) he was quitting the channel’s flagship breakfast show ‘This Morning’ after fronting it with Holly Willoughby, 42, since 2009, but a source said he wants to hold on to his other high-profile hosting duties on shows such as ‘The Cube’, ‘British Soap Awards’ and ‘Dancing on Ice’ “with or without” his former co-host.
An insider told the Sunday Mirror: “Phil’s fate was decided on Friday… he was upset, but firm that if he was going to walk away he wanted to keep his roles on ‘The Cube’, the ‘British Soap Awards’, and ‘Dancing on Ice’ – crucially, with or without Holly.
“And they agreed to the terms he laid out. As far as he was concerned, if he was going to take one for the team, they would owe him.”
Phillip said on Instagram about his ‘This Morning’ exit: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on ‘This Morning’. But recently, ‘This Morning’ itself has become the story.
“Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.
“I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.”
Phillip initially hosted the show alongside Fern Britton, 65, from 2002 until 2009 and has appeared alongside Holly Willoughby ever since, went on to thank his fans for their support over the years and confirmed that he will be back on screen to present the Inside Soap Awards in June.
He added: “So I have agreed to step down from ‘This Morning’ with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

Jeremy Clarkson to brew low and no alcohol beer

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson is getting into brewing low and no alcohol beer.
The famously booze-loving ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ star, 63, has trademarked a brand of teetotal drinks called Diddly Fresh, in a nod to his 312-acre Diddly Squat farm in Chipping Norton, Chadlington, which features on the Amazon show about his efforts to become a farmer.
It was reported by the Sunday Mirror Jeremy’s application to the UK’s Intellectual Property Office “covers low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beer and wine”.
It added his partner Lisa Hogan, 50, has invested in a brewer of low alcohol booze to sell at their Cotswolds farm shop near Chadlington, Oxon.
Former ‘Top Gear’ host Jeremy revealed he was the unhealthiest he had ever been in lockdown after “drinking himself silly”.
He has also told fans: “I drink a lot. On holiday I would have two beers before lunch, a bottle of rosé with it, a banana daiquiri for pudding, a snooze in the afternoon, four rum punches before dinner, another bottle of wine with that, then pina coladas to get in the mood for more sleeping.”
Jeremy is challenging the local council’s decision to shut down a restaurant he opened on Diddly Squat Farm, but as he already sells alcohol in his Diddly Squat Farm Shop he may not need an additional alcohol licence.
West Oxfordshire District Council has refused him permission for him to extend the car park at the store, which is regularly swamped by the presenter’s fans – sparking complaints from locals about them causing traffic jams and damage to land.
Jeremy was told in 2020 by doctors to stop drinking for the sake of his health, but told The Sun a year later he wouldn’t “tone it down”, adding he was going to “switch the booze” by abandoning his favourite “lady juice” of rosé
wine in favour of his Hawkstone lager.
He told the publication about launching the beer: “I wanted to have a brewery so I could have a p***-up in it.
“Now I can go back to my old careers teacher and say, ‘You see? I told you I could do it!’
“It is a very well-made beer. I’m out for world domination. Nothing less will do.”

‘Gogglebox’ star Giles Wood confesses boyhood ‘beastliness’ led him to kill birds as a child

OHMYGOSSIP — Giles Wood says adolescent “beastliness” led him to kill birds as a boy.
The ‘Gogglebox’ stalwart, who has been on the Channel 4 show for eight years with his wife Mary Killen, said he used to blast them from the sky for sport with an air rifle.
He admitted in his new book ‘Country Life: A Story of Peaks and Troughs’, which he wrote with wife Mary, about how he regretted it: “I did get an air rifle when I was about 12 and, having loved garden birds, I started shooting them.
“According to the old school, this behaviour would be a very natural feature of adolescence.
“It was considered a rite of passage that you would graduate from a catapult to an air rifle.
“I am not proud of my short-lived cruel streak. But at the time I wanted to show my skill in downing small birds – starlings, wood pigeons – and I even shot a blackbird in my garden.
“Almost as soon as I had done it, I regretted it. It is just a stage of beastliness that boys go through.”
Giles and Mary faced calls at the start of May last year to be axed from ‘Gogglebox’ over comments she made about former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The pair were seen watching ‘Good Morning Britain’s sit-down interview with Johnson, in which Susanna Reid grilled him on the cost of living crisis.
She asked him about a 77-year-old pensioner called Elsie who had been forced to cut down to one meal a day and ride the bus for heating in order to make ends meet – prompting Mary to say: “I am very sorry for Elsie but Susanna is making out it is Boris’ fault and like he doesn’t care.”
Artist Giles – who has said he was able to “retire at 21” due to his job selling his paintings – then asked her: “Whose fault is it?,” to which Mary replied: “Well it is the global situation.”
Fans of the show branded her “out of touch” and said Channel 4 bosses should “get rid” of her, while others defended her by saying they shouldn’t be axed from the show just because some viewers disagreed with her point of view, while others dismissed her remarks as being part of “light entertainment”.

Cate Blanchett admits she’s ‘always trying to get out of acting’

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett is “always trying to get out of acting”.
The double Oscar-winner, 54, who was nominated for at the 2022 Academy Awards for playing an obsessive conductor in ‘Tár’, is back on the big screen in ‘The New Boy’, but said she also loved producing the film.
She said at her Kering Women in Motion talk at the Cannes Film Festival: “I’m always trying to get out of acting. I’ve been trying to stop acting my entire professional life.”
Cate was in conversation with her producing partner, Coco Francini, and added their recent producing work behind the lens felt like “an extension, for me, of my work as an actor”.
Cate plays temperamental alcoholic nun Sister Eileen in director Warwick Thornton’s drama set in a remote outback Catholic orphanage in 1940s wartime Australia.
She added at Cannes about how she was once advised to stop taking small roles as she wanted to avoid doing lead parts: “I remember an Australian film director saying to me really early on in my career that I had to stop taking small roles.
“And I said, ‘Why?’ I said, ‘That was the most interesting role.’ I didn’t want to play the lead. I want that one.”
“It’s about the conversation. And sometimes that conversation involves me being in front of the lens, and sometimes it’s back behind being a little bit too bossy sometimes from behind.
“The facilitation is equally as creative… I’m as interested in the development process as I am in the process of shooting it, and then I’m really interested in the post process right through to distribution and marketing.”
Cate told the February issue of Vanity Fair magazine she constantly thinks about quitting acting as she falls “in and out of love with it”.
She added: “It’s a love affair, isn’t it? So you do fall in and out of love with it, and you have to be seduced back into it.”

Melissa McCarthy ‘begged’ for chance to play Ursula in ‘The Little Mermaid’

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa McCarthy “begged” for her role in ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The 52-year-old actress plays Ursula the sea witch in Disney’s new live action remake of the beloved 1989 animated classic, but she has admitted she wasn’t in consideration for the part until she really put herself out there.
She told Collider: “I wasn’t up on the list, I wasn’t on the list, I wasn’t list adjacent, and I was like, ‘I’m not gonna get it’, but I knew I had to at least make a play for it because I was like, ‘I’ll be so mad at myself forever if I didn’t even try to get, you know, turned down.’
“And I couldn’t call Rob because I didn’t have (director) Rob Marshall’s number, but I knew a guy who knew a guy, and I just said, ‘Can I please come and talk to you? Can I just tell you what Ursula means to me?’
“And then, I never thought I would get it. So, I was not asked, I begged to do it, and I’m so glad I did.”
McCarthy is delighted with the finished movie, and insisted even she couldn’t see “any of the work” done by the CGI department to bring everything to life.
She said: “The first thing that struck me – first, it’s so beautiful, and I was like, ‘We’re underwater, I’m not seeing any of the work,’ which is, I think, what you can always say when everything’s going right.
“You’re like, ‘I’m not seeing any of the work. I feel the emotion, I feel the story,’ which means everybody’s doing, like, bionically good work.”
The actress also had high praise for Halle Bailey, 23, who plays Ariel, particularly when it came to recreating the iconic ‘Part of Your World’ routine and taking it beyond singing about wanting “to do different stuff”.
She added: “It was about, like, ‘I am going to determine my own life,’ and there was just moments when Halle’s face was so… you felt her heart and her courage, and I thought, ‘This is such a different way for so many people to see a Disney Princess’.
“It’s with this determination, and like, ‘You will not assign me my life,’ and I got so choked up, and I was so proud of her. That’s a big difference.”
“It’s not a whole new number, it’s not a whole thing, but those little differences that Rob and John [DeLuca] and Disney made, and Halle did, it’s all through the movie.
“Those things making it relevant to today meant so much to me, and those were really the moments that just went right to my heart.”

Fast and Furious franchise ‘is in the pruning process’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Rodriguez thinks the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise could go in many possible directions.
The 44-year-old actress plays Letty Ortiz in the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and Michelle has admitted to being excited about the future of the money-spinning franchise.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “Right now it’s literally the throw up of all of the possibilities, all of the seeds planted throughout the years that have now flourished into trees.
“Now, it’s about pruning. We’re in the pruning process. All of the ideas are flying by and all of the input is being thrown in.”
Michelle revealed that Louis Leterrier, the director of new movie ‘Fast X’, is also excited about the possibilities.
She shared: “Louis, our new captain, he’s got his hands full, but he’s excited, he’s like a little kid. You should see him, out on the weekend going to the theatres just trying to see what people respond to.”
Meanwhile, Michelle previously revealed that she loved working with Louis.
The actress hailed the impact of the director, suggesting that he’d brought a new energy to the cast and crew of the franchise.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “He came with all this energy of love. We haven’t had that in ‘Fast and Furious’ for a very long time where we get somebody excited who’s a real fan and who really wants to take it places that it hasn’t gone before.
“We’ve been at it for 20 years, bro. After all that time, you get jaded and kind of forget what you do it for [until] a director like Louis comes in and reminds you, ‘This is beautiful. Let’s go make magic.’ We’re so lucky to have him, bro.”
