Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear diagnosed with dementia

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ legend Julie Goodyear has been diagnosed with dementia.
The 81-year-old actress’ husband Scott Brand has revealed that his “darling wife” is living with the brain condition which causes a decline in a sufferer’s cognitive abilities.
In a statement, Scott said: “My darling wife and I have had to come to terms with this heart-breaking diagnosis. Unfortunately, Julie has been suffering forgetfulness for some time and we have been seeking medical advice and assistance, but we now know that there is no hope of a reversal in the situation – and that her condition will get progressively, and perhaps speedily, worse.”
Scott and Julie took the decision to go public with her diagnosis so that any fans who meet her when she is out will understand if she seems “confused”.
He added: “We have taken the decision to publicly announce the diagnosis as Julie still loves visiting friends and eating out. Inevitably she is recognised, and fans love to meet her – and she them – but she can get confused particularly if she is tired. I hope people will understand.”
Julie – who remains a patron of Willow Wood Hospice in Greater Manchester – became a national treasure in the UK due to her role as Rovers Return landlady Bet Lynch in ‘Corrie’.
The larger-than-life star first joined the ITV soap in 1966 as barmaid Bet, but left after being advised by senior cast member Pat Phoenix – who played Elsie Tanner – to get some more acting training.
After joining Oldham’s Repertory Theatre, Julie returned in 1970 and was a permanent fixture on the cobbles for 25 years until she left in 1995.
Julie made three returns as Bet, firstly in 1999 for the home video spin-off ‘The Rover Returns’ and then again in 2002 and in 2003 for scenes shot in Blackpool as part of a storyline focusing on Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) and her husband Jim (Charles Lawson), who had recently escaped from prison.
Once she was done with ‘Corrie’ several reality TV appearances followed and Julie made a memorable appearance on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in 2012 alongside housemates that included Julian Clary, MC Harvey, Martin Kemp and Coleen Nolan.

Vanessa Feltz accuses TV stars hitting out at ‘This Morning’ of nursing ‘grudging malice’

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz is accusing the TV stars hitting out at ‘This Morning’ of harbouring “grudging malice” they are no longer on the show.
The 61-year-old made the remark after household names including axed ‘This Morning’ host Eamonn Holmes, 63, and its ex-resident medic Dr Ranj Singh, 43, aimed a barrage of criticism at Phillip Schofield, 61, and the show’s set-up behind the scenes in the wake of Phillip’s shock exit from the series at the end of last month after news broke of his affair with a much younger male colleague.
Vanessa said on her TalkTV show: “It has been suggested that quite a lot of the people who are very vocally critical of This Morning.
“And, actually, it’s a handful of people, there are some celebrities, a couple of journalists, and what’s been suggested is quite a lot of them were once on the programme and aren’t on it anymore.
“And that is the reason for this aggrieved, grudging malice that is coming out but if you ask people who are still on the programme and who are on it regularly, who enjoy being on it, they won’t know what they’re talking about.”
Phillip stepped down amid rumours of a feud between him and co-host Holly Willoughby, 42, before he admitted he had lied about having an affair with a younger TV runner who worked on ‘This Morning’.
Vanessa’s comments come after Eamonn claimed there was a “cover-up” at ‘This Morning’ and said: “Those in authority had to know what was going on and they thought they would dodge a bullet with this.
“With Schofield talking about those who speak out against him – namely me, Amanda Holden, Dr Ranj as well. You simply sit there and think, ‘No mate, you’ve had it all your way for too long.’”
Dr Ranj has said ‘This Morning’ has a “toxic culture”, and tweeted: “I was on the show for 10 years and I genuinely loved and valued working there. “However, over time I grew increasingly worried about things behind the scenes and how people, including myself, were being treated.
“I didn’t know the truth about what was going on with Phillip, but I do know the issues with ‘This Morning’ go far beyond him. It takes more than one person to create a culture.”
An ITV spokesperson said the broadcaster is “fully committed to providing every opportunity for anyone who works with us to raise any concern or comments they may have”.
Phillip has denied there was a “toxic” atmosphere on ‘This Morning’, and when Holly returned to the show after a break on Monday (05.06.23) she admitted she was “shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions”.
She added to her 38-year-old co-host Josie Gibson: “You, me and all of us at ‘This Morning’ gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved.”
Holly also said she hoped there was going to be a “new chapter” for the show so it could “get back to a place of warmth and magic”.

Lennie James ‘can’t wait’ to play OAP love-rat in new drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Lennie James “can’t wait” to play an ageing love-rat in a new drama.
The ‘Line of Duty’ actor, 57, has signed up to star in a BBC TV version of Bernardine Evaristo’s ‘Mr Loverman’, which tells of pensioner Barrington who has been cheating on his wife with his best friend Morris.
Lennie, who has three children with wife Giselle Glasman, said: “I can’t wait to get Barrington’s swagger on and help tell this crucial and complicated love story. As funny as it is sad. As full of heart as it is heartache… .”
A synopsis for the eight-part drama, set to start shooting later this year, says ‘Mr Loverman’ is “a life-affirming story about family, love, and being true to yourself”.
It adds Lennie’s character is “Barrington Jedidiah Walker, Esq. Barry to his mates. Trouble to his wife, his daughters, and his lover.”
It tells how the 70-year-old Antiguan born, “exuberant Hackney personality” is known for his dapper taste and fondness for retro suits.
Carmel, his wife of 50 years, senses Barry has been cheating on her with other women but doesn’t suspect he’s been having a secret, decades-long passionate affair with his best friend and soulmate, Morris.
The blurb for the shows adds: “Now entering the next chapter of his life, Barry has big choices to make that will force his whole family to question their own futures.
“Bringing to life Bernardine Evaristo’s ground-breaking exploration of Britain’s older Caribbean community, Mr Loverman paints an incisive portrait of a family, exploring aspirations and regret, parenthood, and social expectations about sexual orientation and love.”
Novelist Bernardino, 64, said about her excitement at seeing her 2013 novel being adapted: “I am thrilled that Mr Loverman is being adapted into television drama. I love the idea of them stepping beyond the pages of the novel and into people’s living rooms and lives.”
Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, said: “Mr Loverman is a must-read novel, and in the skilled hands of Nathaniel, Lennie and the Fable team it’s soon to be must-see television. I can’t think of a more perfect team to bring Bernardine’s exquisite story to the screen.”

Louis Theroux isn’t ‘thrilled’ when winning TV awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Theroux doesn’t feel “thrilled” when winning TV awards.
The former ‘Weird Weekends’ documentarian, 53, admitted how “surprising” it is he is left underwhelmed when snagging trophies at ceremonies including the Baftas, and said he struggles to get “pleasure” from the victories.
Louis told Annie Macmanus, 44, on her ‘The Changes With Annie Macmanus’ podcast: “I’ve won a few BAFTAs in my time, and it’s surprising how in the moment you don’t feel thrilled.
“You feel a bit disconnected from it, and some part of me sort of short-circuits pleasure.”
Louis, who has sons Albert, 16, Frederick, 14, and Walter, eight, with his wife Nancy Strang, 53, called doing his job “the real pleasure” and not scooping up accolades – as he finds them “weird”.
He added: “There are times I feel very happy when work is going well, or I’ve filmed something or edited something… the work is the real pleasure.
“There’s something a bit weird about awards in general.”
Recently, the ‘My Scientology Movie’ star showed off how his alopecia “of the beard” gives him “a weird little Hitler moustache” if he forgets to pick up the razor, and reassured fans he wasn’t trying to imitate the dictator’s look.
Louis captioned a selfie on Instagram: “Nature has played a cruel trick on me. Thanks to my alopecia barbae (“of the beard”) I can now only grow a weird little Hitler moustache.”
It came after Louis took to his socials in January to speculate he “probably” had the long-term hair loss problem and how it was impacting his beard-growing prospects.
He captioned a series of self-portraits: “So this is what my beard grows like now due to what I think is probably alopecia.
“Basically, I get a little triangle of stubble around my mouth and some more at the sides.
“It’s not a big deal, but I don’t want people to think I’m doing something creative with my facial hair and doing it badly, when it’s just what I look like when I don’t shave.
“This is also why I don’t wear a beard as much anymore. Maybe it’ll grow back. Who knows?”

Finn Wolfhard was described as too ‘young’ to direct a film

OHMYGOSSIP — Finn Wolfhard was told that he was too “young” to direct a movie.
The 20-year-old actor has co-directed and co-written the film ‘Hell of a Summer’ with Billy Bryk but explained how it was a struggle to find financial support for the project as there was scepticism about his tender age.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Finn said: “That’s what everyone said when we tried to get money for this movie.
“They’re like, ‘You’re a little young to be directing a movie.’ I’m like, ‘Yep’.”
The ‘Stranger Things’ star added: “Oh my God, they gave money to two kids to make a crazy (movie). Not to downplay it, I’m incredibly proud of it, but it was a crazy thing.”
Finn explained that he did not see age as a hindrance when getting behind the camera.
He said: “We’d like to let the film speak for itself. I don’t think age defines filmmaking in any way. I think everyone has stories to tell, and if you have the chance to do it, then do it.”
Wolfhard acknowledged that both he and Bryk have “enough self-awareness” to accept that there would be bumps in the road as the pair directed their first movie.
The ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ actor said: “We’re really young, we’re going to mess up a lot, and we’re going to make mistakes. Let’s just ride the wave and be as communicative with everyone as possible and make everyone feel a part of the team.
“It was really informative. I learned more on that set about myself and about other people and about running a set and working with different personalities. I learned more in those three weeks than I have in my whole life.”

Cillian Murphy calls for audiences to watch Oppenheimer in the cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Cillian Murphy thinks it is “essential” to watch ‘Oppenheimer’ at the cinema.
The 47-year-old star leads the cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming all-star blockbuster as J. Robert Oppenheimer – the man known as the “father of the atomic bomb” – and has urged viewers to see the picture on the biggest available screen.
Cillian told Empire magazine: “I think it’s a truly essential cinematic experience. And I know that’s what I’m supposed to say, that’s the studio line. But you have to see this in the cinema on the biggest f****** screen possible. There are moments in it that will blow people’s lids off.”
Nolan also discussed the importance of telling the story of the creation of the atomic bomb in the movie – which stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr. among others.
The ‘Inception’ director explained: “Look, the ultimate stakes of any big blockbuster is the survival of the world.
“And that’s what the story is. I know of no story with higher stakes than ‘Oppenheimer’s’ story. That’s just the truth of it.”
Nolan continued: “It’s tricky using a word like entertainment when you’re talking about something so serious, but entertainment in movies takes many forms. This is such an involving, compelling tale that we had the privilege of telling.”
‘Oppenheimer’ will be released next month and Cillian recently praised the “sensational” flick.
The ‘Peaky Blinders’ actor told Rolling Stone UK magazine: “I think it’s the best script I ever read.
“He wanted it to be solely from Oppenheimer’s perspective. And I think the film is sensational. As a person who loves films – I’m not saying it ‘cos I’m in the f****** thing, I hate looking at myself – but as a lover of film, as a cinephile, I’m a Chris Nolan fan.”

The 58-year-old actress – who shot to fame as a child on ‘Opportunity Knocks’ in the 1970s – first appeared as Melanie Bush in the BBC sci-fi series in the 1980s as the companion to the Sixth and Seventh Doctors played by Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy and initially reprised her role as a cameo opposite Jodie Whittaker in 2022 but will now return to the show once more when Ncuti Gatwa takes over in the title role.
She said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be bringing Melanie Bush back. He said: “Open those TARDIS doors wide, because Bonnie’s back! What an honour, delight and hoot to welcome back the character of Melanie, after too long away. And this isn’t just a cameo, Bonnie is right in the thick of the action, battling monsters and chaos and cliffhangers, right at the Doctor’s side, just like the old days!”

‘If your man can be stolen, was he really your man?’ Bombshell Whitney Adebayo lands in Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Whitney Adebayo is “not afraid to go for what she wants” on ‘Love Island’.
The 25-year-old wig maker – who hails from London – made her first appearance in the Mallorcan villa on the hit ITV reality show
Speaking amid her arrival on Wednesday(07.06.23) night’s episode, she said: “My name is Whitney, I’m 25 years old and I’m from Camden Town. I’m an entrepreneur. I sell wigs. I’ve been out of the game for a minute, I haven’t really been dating but from what I remember I score! I’ve got a nice body, I’ve got nice hair. I’m extremely smart so I’m just a full package. I don’t care what people would say about me; my friends would say I’m a b****, but in a nice way of course. I don’t really like, BS that’s not my vibe. I’m not afraid to go for what I want. I feel like if your man can be stolen, then was he really your man?”
Just moments after arriving, Whitney was seen chatting to André Furtado – who was initially coupled up with Catherine Agbaje before she was stolen by Zachariah Noble – as she reeled off a series of traits to describe her ideal man.
She said: “I like every flavour, vanilla, chocolate, blue, pink, as long as you’re giving then you’re giving. Definitely tall, nice smile, good hands. Nice personality. But other than that. I’d give for the both of us, do you know what I mean?”
Catherine later commented: “I wasn’t jealous but I was intrigued. If Andre is her type…”
Elsewhere, Mitchel Taylor and Molly Marsh shared their first kiss.
The 26-year-old gas engineer was coupled up with social media content creator Molly, 21, when the public paired them up together at the start of the series and on towards the end of Wednesday night’s (07.06.23) episode, Mitch “moved in fast” for a kiss.
Molly said: “He literally just went in there! And he does move fast, but I guess it worked in his favour.”
Mitch remarked: “That was such a good kiss!”

Lucy Worsley is a nervous wreck on Puzzling set

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Worsley has been a nervous “wreck” on the set of her new game show.
The 49-year-old historian is fronting new Channel 5 show ‘Puzzling’ – her first job hosting anything in a studio – and she admitted she’s really feeling the “pressure”.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “I’m a wreck, an utter heap of nerves. This is all new to me and the pressure of it is extraordinary.
“There are so many things that could go wrong for the contestants, but also for me. It’s been a real joy, but also nerve-wracking and terrifying.
“Normally I’m out with a very small crew stuck on a rainy street corner in Edinburgh. I’m not used to working with such a large, complex team in such a big TV studio.”
Lucy confessed while she always assumed it was tough to make things look as easy as the likes of Victoria Coren Mitchell or Claudia Winkleman do, her new role has confirmed it.
She added: “I had a sense that it wasn’t easy to be a Claudia or Victoria, but now I know it for an absolute fact.
“Hats off to the people who make it look effortless. I’m in awe of them.”
Meanwhile, she explained that there is so much that goes into making the show – which is set to launch on June 22 at 8pm – right down to getting the balance right when she’s asking a question.
She said: “I’m under huge pressure to get the question out quickly but correctly. And it’s so important for everything to be absolutely fair.
“There are even some adjudicators in the back room watching and listening and if there is ever any doubt about whether an answer is correct or not, everything has to be fully checked out.
“So there are these pauses where they check everything.”

Rebecca Ferguson accusing ITV of ‘fobbing off’ her bullying complaint

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebecca Ferguson is accusing ITV and Ofcom of leaving her “fobbed off” when she raised concerns about the treatment of artists on reality shows.
The former ‘X Factor’ contestant, 36, has gone public with an email she sent to the broadcaster and the broadcasting watchdog in 2021, which she used to call for an “urgent inquiry to ensure the future safety of contestants and ensure adequate safeguarding measures are put in place to protect future contestants on these shows”.
Rebecca told The Times newspaper she had raised the concerns after being contacted by former contestants and ITV staff following the 2020 suicide of ‘Love Island’ presenter Caroline Flack, and said she decided to make her complaint and the responses to it public amid ITV’s handling of the Phillip Schofield scandal and accusations there was a “toxic” culture behind the scenes of ‘This Morning’.
She said: “I feel that if I don’t speak up now then these issues will never be dealt with.
“The public can be hypnotised by TV. They think it’s all glitz and glamour but what has happened with ‘This Morning’ is the first time I’ve seen the public wake up.”
Rebecca’s 2021 complaint alleged reality show contestants were forced into contracts without independent legal advice and “mentally manipulated and abused”, as well as “reduced to tears due to pressure (and) bullying”.
Rebecca sent her email to ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall and other senior management at the broadcaster.
The singer added she was “shocked” she had an online meeting with Ofcom officials following her complaint, but they were apparently unwilling to investigate.
ITV said: “We have continued to evolve and strengthen our approach, and we expect all producers of commissioned programmes to have in place appropriate procedures to look after the mental health of programme participants as well as their physical safety.”
Ofcom said it had been in contact with Ferguson about her 2021 correspondence, adding: “We listened carefully to the extent of her concerns about the treatment of contestants during her time on ‘The X Factor’ in 2010. “During these exchanges, we explained our powers and how our broadcasting rules apply in detail.
“We confirmed that new rules introduced to protect participants in programmes were not applicable to programmes broadcast before 5 April, 2021.”
A spokesman for ‘The X Factor’ insisted about how it had had always taken contestants’ welfare seriously: “During the 2010 series of ‘The X Factor’, there were robust measures in place to ensure everyone involved in the making of the programme was supported throughout their experience and beyond including a dedicated welfare team made up of psychologists, doctors, welfare producers and independent legal and management advisers with no time limit on aftercare once the show had aired.”

Christopher Nolan hails his upcoming ‘Oppenheimer’ film as ultimate blockbuster as it deals ‘survival of world’

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan says his upcoming ‘Oppenheimer’ film is the ultimate blockbuster as it deals with the “survival of the world”.
The 52-year-old ‘Dark Knight’ director’s upcoming movie stars Cillian Murphy, 47, as “father of the atomic bomb” J Robert Oppenheimer, and the filmmaker said he has ever dealt with more important story.
He told Empire magazine: “The ultimate stakes of any big blockbuster is the survival of the world. And that’s what this story is.
“I know of no story with higher stakes than Oppenheimer’s story. That’s just the truth of it.
“It’s tricky using a word like entertainment when you’re talking about something so serious, but entertainment in movies takes many forms.
“This is such an involving, compelling tale that we had the privilege of telling.”
Christopher added one of his biggest challenges in making the film was shooting a recreation of the Trinity test of Oppenheimer’s bomb in the New Mexico desert without using any CGI.
He said: “I mean, I’ve done a lot of explosions in a lot of films. But there is something very unique and particular about being out in a desert in the middle of the night with a big cast, and really just doing some enormous explosions and capturing that.
“You couldn’t help but come back to this moment when they were doing this on the ultimate scale, that in the back of their minds they knew there was this possibility that they would set fire to the atmosphere.
“It was pretty amazing to engage in that kind of tension.”
‘Peaky Blinders’ actor Cillian has urged movie fans to see the film, out on 21 July, on the biggest screen they can find.
He told Empire: “I think it’s a truly essential cinematic experience. And I know that’s what I’m supposed to say – that’s the studio line.
“But you have to see this in the cinema on the biggest f****** screen possible. “There are moments in it that will blow people’s lids off.”

Scarlett Moffatt declares chip shops with terrible hygiene rating are ‘better’

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Moffat feels chip shops with a terrible hygiene rating are “better”.
The ex-‘Gogglebox’ star, 32, is very particular about her takeouts as she wants her kebabs to be from somewhere with a rating of at least “four” but when it comes to other carry-outs such as chips, she isn’t as fussy and actually thinks the “worse” the rating is the more yummy the food will be.
She said on her ‘Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe’ podcast: “If we get a takeaway from a kebab shop I check the food hygiene rating and I’m like, ‘This is all right, it’s a four’.
“But if I go to a chip shop, it could be one and I’m not bothered.
“I feel like the worse the hygiene rating from a chip shop, the better.”
Scarlett, who is expecting her first baby, a boy, with her long-term partner Scott Dobinson, 37, recently posted images from her Peter Rabbit-themed baby shower on her Instagram while enthusing her looming arrival “finally feels real”.

“We’ve been huge Gogglebox fans for years and we are thrilled to be taking part.”
Katherine recently revealed her days as a single mum with daughter Violet, 13, who she had with a previous partner, were some of her happiest and was “quite nervous” she may never regain that feeling after she had her son Fred, 23 months, and daughter Fenna, five months, with Bobby.
She said to The Sun: “I was really happy with my daughter.
“I’m not one of those mothers who needs time away from my kids, I want to be with them as much as possible.
“Well, now they kind of annoy me because there’s three of them – but when Violet was little, she never bothered me.
“She was my best friend, the love of my life. I’m actually quite nervous that my decade of being a single mother to Violet, and of struggling and being poor . . . I’m worried that might have been the best time of my life.”
Katherine also revealed people are starting to recognise her kids from social media even when she’s not there.
She said: “What’s started to happen since I had my most recent baby, Fenna, is that the babysitter takes Fred out to the park instead of me doing it, and people have said to her, ‘That’s Katherine Ryan’s son, I remember him from Instagram.’”
Katherine, who first dated Bobby when she was a teen growing up in Canada, also said her partner “loves” the trappings of fame.
She added: “Bobby loves that I’m on television, and I’m quite well-liked.
“He likes it when people recognise me, he likes that we went to Maya Jama’s birthday party, he likes the red carpet and all the perks. He’s proud of what I do.”

The 10-part ‘Boys’ show had seen lads match up after a kiss, with couples are formed based on what each person was looking for in a potential partner, with the pairings tested on compatibility.
Dannii told the Metro about the boys’ series: “This is going to change the daily life paths of many, many people.
“There’s so much to be learned from the show, for families, friends and allies, and even for people who attack the community.
“I think they’re attacking something they don’t know about, or they feel like they’ve never met anyone that’s gay.
“I’m so happy that BBC Three is kicking the door down, putting the show out there because it’s nuts that it’s 2023 and this has never happened before.”
