Paul O’Grady tribute in the works, widow reveals

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady’s grieving husband is planning a huge tribute to him.
The entertainment world was in mourning in the wake of the death of the comic and TV presenter – who shot to fame with his drag queen persona Lily Savage in the 1990s – following his passing aged 67 in March 2023 from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome.
No one was more shocked at his sudden death and heartbroken than Paul’s other half Andre Portasio, who was married to him for six years.
Andre and the rest of his loved ones have been in talks to discuss potential projects to honour his life and legacy.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “We are discussing about how things will take shape.
“Time will tell and guide me to a way of how I can keep Paul’s memory going.
“Let’s hope there are some things in the future.”
Andre is grateful for all the love and support from friends and family helping him come up with ideas.
He added: “There are so many wonderful people who are doing so many wonderful things.
“I want to thank them for their care and love and support. It has been wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
Crippled by grief, Andre didn’t leave his house for three months, making his first public appearance at the Attitude Pride Awards last Friday (23.06.23).
The former ballet dancer is thankful everyone for getting in touch to make sure he was ok, giving him the much needed boost to keep going.
He said: “Everybody has been wonderful. All of Paul’s friends have been writing to me and texting to check that I am OK.”

Jorgie Porter: My miscarriage was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through

OHMYGOSSIP — Jorgie Porter says her miscarriage “was the hardest thing” she has ever had to go through.
The 35-year-old actress and her fiancé Ollie Piotrowski, 32, welcomed their seven-month-old son Forest into the world in November 2022, and his birth followed a tragedy when Jorgie lost her quadruplets at 14 weeks back in 2021.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ star admits she had never felt a worse pain then when she got the news from doctors that her babies were gone.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: “My miscarriage was the hardest thing I’ve had to go through in my life. None of the doctors knew why it happened. I had four times the hormones, and then afterwards, the feeling of being pregnant never went away.
“Ollie and I had felt so ready to be parents. I just didn’t understand how it could be taken away.
“There is no pain like it, and it was the same for Ollie.
“Some think, ‘It’s the woman’s body’, but that’s not true. If anything, it makes the male partner feel he can’t be upset. So it’s important to talk about it.”
Jorgie will be returning to Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’ as her character Theresa McQueen later this year, but she admits her main focus in life now is being the best mum she can to Forest.
She said: “Being a mother is so hard. The hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s relentless. But I will always, always be thankful I am a mum, no matter how hard it is, because of what happened. It’s given me the gratitude to take each day as it comes and enjoy my family.
“When Forest was born, I just felt so excited for this new stage in my life. Although, all the late nights were good training for sleepless nights with a baby.
“I would never want to be that girl again, the one without a care beyond clothes shopping and having a good time. I loved my younger, frivolous years but that’s not me now.”
Jorgie – who has appeared on reality shows ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ and ‘Dancing On Ice’ – intends to tell Forest about his lost siblings when he’s older.
She said: “I felt very lucky to be able to speak to friends who have suffered miscarriages and got through the other side.
“I don’t think I can ever move away from what happened. It’s about progression. If I talk about Forest it’s important I don’t ignore what happened. If it had not happened, I wouldn’t be mum to Forest.
“When he’s older I’ll definitely tell him about our lost babies.”

Jennifer Lawrence ‘immediately’ got rejected for Twilight

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lawrence “didn’t even get a callback” after her ‘Twilight’ audition.
The ‘Hunger Games’ actress – who shot to fame as Katniss Everdeen in the huge franchise – almost made her name in a very different film series as she tried to land a role in the 2008 vampire blockbuster.
Appearing on ‘The Rewatchables’ podcast, she told host Bill Simmons: “I auditioned for ‘Twilight’.
“They turned me down immediately. I didn’t even get a callback. But my life would’ve been totally different.
“I got ‘Hunger Games’ I think, like, a year later. It was probably after ‘Winter’s Bone.’ ”
She was cast in ‘The Hunger Games’ and the rest is history, but while Lawrence claimed her life would have changed, some aspects – such as navigating being involved in such a big franchise – were very much the same.
She explained: “I have to churn out movies in between so that I’m not only known for this franchise.
“I was still in a franchise, so I was still trying to counteract the franchise-ness and I would still be doing that if I was in ‘Twilight.’ ”
However, things could have taken a twist for the 32-year-old star as she very nearly turned down ‘Hunger Games’ after seeing the “fandom” that surrounded ‘Twilight’ duo Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
She added: “When I was trying to talk to people about making this decision after [‘Hunger Games’] got offered to me, it was hard to explain to people… this level of fame.
“I assumed it was going to be the ‘Twilight’ level of fame and that was never something I had in mind.
“I never wanted to be the most famous person on the planet. That’s a very different life than I pictured for me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Banks is to lead the cast of thriller movie ‘Skincare’.
The 49-year-old star will appear alongside Lewis Pullman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Nathan Fillion in the Iervolino and Lady Bacardi Entertainment film, which will be directed by Austin Peters.
Banks wrote on Instagram: “This cast is killer. We had fun on this one. #Skincare (sic)”
Jonathan Schwartz and Logan Lerman will produce ‘Skincare’, which wrapped production before the writers’ strike in the US, according to Deadline.
ILBE CEO Iervolino said: “We are delighted to announce another international production involving such world-class actresses and actors.
“‘Skincare’ is a film with a strong visual impact that, because of the cast and the workers it involves, has enormous potential.
“It is a film that we at ILBE believe in very much.”
Schwartz and Lerman cannot wait to team up with Banks in the motion picture, and they are thrilled to be working with Peters.
They added: “We are super excited to see Elizabeth Banks take on this type of role, and ecstatic to be working with Austin Peters.
“We are grateful to Andrea Iervolino and ILBE for their support.”
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is expected to be a vanity thriller set in Hollywood.
ILBE’s Head of Production Richard Salvatore added: “It was impossible for this great project not to turn out phenomenally well since we had an awesome creative team and the cast was incredible.”
Banks recently directed and produced horror comedy film ‘Cocaine Bear’, which dropped earlier this year.

Jamie Oliver lands new Channel 4 series

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Oliver has landed a new Channel 4 cooking and travel show.
The Naked Chef – whose exclusive deal with the broadcaster ended last year – is said to have attracted interest from the likes of Netflix, but C4 has commissioned new four part series ‘Jamie Cooks The Mediterranean’.
The upcoming show – which is set to air later this year – will follow his travels across Greece, Tunisia, Spain and France as he explores a range of flavours and styles to inspire new recipes.
Tim Hancock – commissioning editor for Channel 4 – said: “Jamie has been going from strength to strength in his series for us, and this is a really beautiful travelogue showcasing techniques and recipes even the most avid foodie might have missed, and some ingenious recipes from Jamie.”
According to reports, bosses were keen to get the celebrity chef lined up for another big show to warn off interest from rival broadcasters.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Jamie held an exclusive contract with Channel 4 for years. But at the back end of last year he began to look at other options once his golden handcuffs deal lapsed.
“He made One-Pan Wonders and Seasons on a non-exclusive basis for Channel 4, but Netflix showed interest in a project around his healthy-eating campaigns.
“Channel 4 are all too aware how much of a draw Jamie still is for viewers, and wanted to reward his loyalty with a glossy new show.”
It’s said a Christmas special will follow after the four episodes air this autumn.
Jamie will showcase recipes from his Mediterranean trip in a companion cookbook, including dishes like crispy prawn parcels with harissa, which was created in Tunisia.
Other treats include Greece-inspired smoky aubergine flatbread, pork chop with chargrilled peppers from Spain, and a courgette, goat’s cheese and olive tapenade tart from France.

Jason Watkins and Chris Eubank to compete on Cooking With The Stars

Emma Willis and Tom Allen will return to co-host the ITV show, which start on Tuesday (04.07.23) on ITV1 and ITVX, and Emma’s husband Matt Willis, Coronation Street’s Samia Longchambon, singer and television personality Peter Andre, Steps’ Claire Richards and former ‘Love Island’ star Indiyah Polack complete the line up.
Emma said: “Filming ‘Cooking With The Stars’ is always a highlight for me as not only do Tom and I have lots of fun but we also get to try some phenomenal food.
“We have a great cast this season, who will no doubt be feeling the pressure as they head into the kitchen. We’ve seen blood, sweat and tears on previous series and I’m sure this series will be no exception!”
Tom said: “A whole lot of great food, celebs reaching boiling point plus Emma Willis and me holding court – sounds like my dream party.
“I am so excited to be bringing back to your screens the glitziest competitive cooking show in the world!”
During the series, the celebrities will be guided by their Chef Mentor as they attempt to create the winning dish in a series of intense Cooking Battles.
The loser of each Battle will then have to fight for their place in the competition in the Cook Off – as they’re tasked with creating a dish they’ve never seen before.
Celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager is partnered with Peter, chef director Jack Stein will team up with former boxer Chris, Michelin Starred French chef Jean-Christophe Novelli joins forces with Samia, Scottish chef and restaurateur Tony Singh will be partnered with Claire, Michelin Starred executive chef Michael Caines will guide ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star Joanna.
What’s more, restaurateur and cookery author Shelina Permalloo will team up with Matt on the series, chef and restauranteur April Jackson will work with ‘Line of Duty’ star Jason Watkins, and award-winning chef Ellis Barrie is partnered with Indiyah.
Matt joked one of the reasons he signed up for the show was to “hang out” with his wife of 15 years.
He said: “I thought it would be fun! I cook quite a bit at home but it’s always the same thing over and over so I wanted to learn some new recipes. And to be honest, I wanted to hang out with Emma.
“We never really work together and something like this is so out of my wheelhouse so I thought why not try something a bit different, especially with Emma presenting it!”

Love Island’s Olivia Hawkins predicts Casa Amor return for dumped Islander

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Hawkins believes Molly Marsh will return to ‘Love Island’ later in the series.
The former ‘Love Island’ star has reached out to Molly, who departed the ITV2 dating show last week as part of a shock dumping after Kady McDermott – who appeared in the second series in 2016 – returned to the villa and stole Zachariah Noble from her.
Olivia believes Molly will be brought back during the Casa Amor stage of the show.
Writing in her OK! column, she said: “I’m gutted Molly was dumped from the villa – I’m such a fan girl.
“I reached out to her on social media since she left, because I know it can be quite overwhelming when you come out of the villa, and your friends and family can’t really understand it, so I just let her know I am there for her if she wants to chat.
“I really don’t think this is the last we have seen of Molly on this year’s show, however, as I have a feeling she will return to the show during Casa Amor – which will be very awkward if Zachariah pursues anything romantic with Kady.”
Olivia has also hit out at Tyrique Hyde for his “harsh” reaction to Molly’s departure.
She added: “I was quite shocked at Tyrique’s reaction to Molly leaving the villa, after he turned to Zachariah and told him he couldn’t leave with Molly as she’s ‘not your girl’, and said: ‘Laters, Molly.’ I think that was harsh.
“It makes me think about what he would do if Ella was the one to leave, because his head has been turned a few times, including when Kady walked in. She’s not the first and she won’t be the last.”

Ellie Simmonds: I was adopted at 3 months old

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Simmonds has revealed she was adopted when she was just three months old – and she has now reunited with her birth mother.
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia – has made a documentary exploring her search for her birth mother after discovering she was put up for adoption.
In the ITV programme, the 28-year-old Paralympian was heartbroken to find out medical professionals had told her mother that Ellie could be bullied and viewed as “evil” and “stupid”.
However, Ellie – who has won five gold medals competing at Paralympic Games held in Beijing, London and Rio – did not let this discovery stop her from embarking on a successful journey to track down the woman who brought her into the world.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: “Until now, it’s never emotionally affected me, it never made me feel rejected or ask why do my birth parents not want me. I’ve been so focused on the future and never thought about it.”
Ellie has often gushed about how her adoptive parents Steve and Val – who have four other kids – are some of her biggest supporters but did not know that she was not their biological daughter.
However, soon “questions started to bubble up” and she went on an adventure to find her birth story.
In the show, she said: “One of the reasons for being given up for adoption is dwarfism and maybe it can be a factor of why my personality is like it is, because of that rejection at the start.”
With help from a social worker, Ellie was able to locate her mother and discover how she was handed a pamphlet warning that Ellie would have “large skull and depressed nasal bridge” and that kids with achondroplasia “tend to be muscular and acrobatic, which is perhaps the reason for them traditionally being involved in the circus and other forms of theatre”.
The fact sheet also said: “Children have to deal with being stared at and laughed at by other children. Indeed, there are those with normal height who equate short stature with evil and stupidity.”
On hearing this information, Ellie said: “Can you imagine reading that and thinking, ‘That’s my child’? In a way, I understand when you don’t know anything about the disability and you get this. You’re going to be scared.”
Ellie almost stopped her quest find her mother, but was advised to carry on.
She eventually received a letter that read: “Your father and I separated before I realised I was expecting you. Unfortunately, it was very sad and traumatic in my life, and I struggled with my mental health.
“I’ve suffered with guilt and self-hatred for not being strong enough to cope. I cannot express the happiness I feel to know your parents and siblings have provided you with such a loving environment, that you’re so happy. You’ve achieved so much.”

Amy Walsh ‘cried a few times’ upon her return to Emmerdale after maternity leave

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Walsh “cried a few times” when she returned to ‘Emmerdale’ after maternity leave.
The 36-year-old actress felt like she had “never been away” after welcoming her first daughter Bonnie, 18 months, with her ex ‘EastEnders’ star fiancé Toby-Alexander Smith – who played Gray Atkins on the BBC One series – because of the close bond she has with everyone on set who helped her with her transition back to play Tracy Metcalfe.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I just feel like I’ve come back and never been away. It just feels so normal for me to be here. I said to my mum a couple of days in, I was like,’ I’ve never felt more at home than I have there. I feel so comfortable here, and it’s felt the same’.
“The hair and make-up team are like sisters to me. I’ve cried a few times in the make up chair out of pure exhaustion or dropping my child off at nursery. I went in in tears, and they were like, we won’t do your face first, we’ll do your hair.
“We’re all good friends but when you’re away, you’re busy with your child, and people are busy with their jobs, but then it reminds you how close you are. I feel like me again. It’s nice to have the time when you’re at work and remember the friendships.”
Amy – who been in the soap since 2014 – admitted she used to complain “about being tired” before motherhood but it’s at another level now.
She said: “I thought I used to be tired, I always complained about being tired before, but now I’m like, how am I doing this? It’s hard, I’m not gonna lie, but that’s because my child isn’t sleeping at the moment.
“Just the hours you’re here, you leave at seven, and then you’re back in the building at seven. You’ve got to bath and bed your child and then make your dinner and then do your lines for the next day, talk to your other half and then get back and go again.”

EastEnders star James Bye reveals newborn son’s name

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bye has named his newborn son Rufus.
The ‘EastEnders’ star, 39, and his wife Victoria, 40, welcomed a little boy on June 18th, and the couple have taken to social media to reveal their bundle of joy’s name.
James and Victoria – who also have Edward, eight, Louis, six, and Hugo, three – shared a picture on Instagram of the sleeping tot, and wrote: “Rufus Gray… 18.06.23… 8lb 1oz,” along with the news he was going to be nicknamed “Roo”.
Victoria added: “You kept us waiting for such a long time little one, but oh wow were you worth the wait. We’re absolutely over the moon, smitten kittens and just head over heels for you. Our precious little rainbow… and boy have you brought the sun with you. (Like seriously, we’re all melting).
“And erm, check out the hair! A little styler like your brothers already. It’s safe to say. We’re just in love. This first week has been a whirlwind of you. (sic)”
Victoria described her and her husband – who plays Martin Fowler in the long-running BBC One soap – as “the happiest pair” since they became a brood of six.
She continued: “After a long induction, a long labour, lots of ups and downs and the drama along the way (oh don’t you worry I’ll be filling you in on everything… [red face emoji]) our hearts are near to bursting with the arrival of our precious baby boy…
“I just can’t believe I have him, here, in my arms, safely home and ours to keep for always. It still hasn’t sunk in… I’m definitely still in shock and I still can’t believe he’s mine.
“It’s been a long old journey to get him and now as he lays against my chest, whimpering softly, already starting to root for some booby time I feel like I’m the luckiest mama in the land.
“I’m soaking it all in. Letting my hair sit like a birds nest on my head, letting the washing pile up, letting the hours while away as I hold him, and sniff him (oh that smell) because I’ve waited so long for this moment. And I’m loving every second… xx (sic)”

Holly Willoughby presents This Morning with croaky voice after being ‘officially Glasto’d’

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby presented ‘This Morning’ with a croaky voice on Tuesday (27.06.23) after singing too loudly during Sir Elton John’s Glastonbury performance.
The 42-year-old TV presenter returned to the brunchtime show on Tuesday after taking Monday (26.06.23) off following last weekend’s music extravaganza, and she jokingly blamed Elton for causing her scratchy speech.
Speaking about her cracked chat, Holly’s co-host Craig Doyle asked on the show: “Is that a summer cold is it? Allergies? Pollen?”
Holly joked: “I’ve been officially Glasto’d! That’s what this voice is.
“It’s always my first thing to go and actually I blame Elton John for this because – did you see him on stage?
“It was just so amazing, it was one of the best bits.
“The whole weekend was incredible but to finish on this moment and I sang my socks off and now I sound like this!
“But honestly I just had the best weekend ever.”
Holly also partied with her fellow ‘This Morning’ presenter Dermot O’Leary at Glastonbury.
As a picture of the pair appeared on screen, she said: “I think we were watching Blondie at this point, who was equally amazing.”
Holly and her TV executive husband Dan Baldwin, 48, flew from London to Glastonbury, South West England, via a private helicopter.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Holly was laughing and joking with her friends from the moment she touched down.
“They had access to the VIP Winnebago camping area but Holly seemed keen to get among the crowds.”
The pair were also said to have partied with former England footballer Peter Crouch and his wife Abbey Clancy at the music festival.

Stacey Solomon ‘taking every precaution possible’ to avoid having 6th baby

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon is taking “every precaution possible” to ensure she doesn’t have a sixth baby.
The 33-year-old star admitted she and her husband Joe Swash are “really loving each other” even more than usual after returning from a romantic mini break in Austria, but she insisted they are not planning on having another child.
‘Loose Women’ panellist Stacey – who has Zachary, 15, and Leighton, 11, from previous relationships and Rex, four, Rose, 20 months, and four-month-old Belle with Joe – said in an Instagram video: “We are on a mini-break high and really loving each other.
“We were kissing yesterday and the boys were like, ‘Urgh! You disgust me!’
“Oh, for those of you messaging me saying is this baby number six – no, no no! Don’t worry, we’re taking every precaution possible to make sure that doesn’t happen!”
Stacey admitted life can get “a bit tense” at times when they are working and running around at home after their kids, so the couple enjoyed getting away.
She added: “I got to say, me and Joe had the best time together.
“I think sometimes, when you’re in the thick of it and we’ve got all the kids and I’m working and then he’s working and then we’re tag teaming it, it all gets a bit tense.
“So yeah, that little 36 hours together has just made me love him so much. Not that I didn’t love him before!”
Stacey and Joe went to Austria for their friends’ wedding over the weekend, and she got “a little tipsy” at the bash.
She wrote on Instagram: “Mum and Dad. Out alone. In The Actual Sound Of Music House. For Our Friends Wedding. P.S I’m a little tipsy or maybe a lot. Or maybe totally gone. I don’t look like this anymore. Send help (sic)”

“I hope my personal journey shows that you can take the experiences you’ve had in one part of your career and use them to do something entirely different and make it a success.
“Business is all about managing people and managing yourself and I’m looking forward to sharing my experience to help the entrepreneurs we’ll meet in the Den reach their potential.”

Rose Ayling-Ellis calls for free British Sign Language lessons

OHMYGOSSIP — Rose Ayling-Ellis has called for free British Sign Language (BSL) lessons.
The ex ‘EastEnders’ star – who has been deaf since birth – thinks the condition is a feature that people ought to “embrace”, and she admitted it is a “shame” that families have to fork out to be able to communicate with one other via BSL.
The 28-year-old actress told BBC Newsround: “Being deaf is not something that you overcome, it’s something that you embrace.
“It’s a shame that you have to pay to communicate with your own child.”
The National Deaf Children’s Society supported Rose’s demands for accessibility in learning the language.
Martin McLean, a rep from the charity, said: “Most parents wanting to learn BSL to any meaningful level will have to fork out hundreds, sometimes thousands, of pounds in tuition fees.
“Amid the cost of living crisis, it is wrong that families may have to choose between learning a language that is vital for their children, or simply paying their electricity bill.”
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ winner recalled being left “really upset” and “trembling” after an audience member interrupted her playing Celia in the Shakespeare play ‘As You Like It’.
When asked how she left, Rose said in her BBC documentary, ‘Rose Ayling-Ellis: Signs for Change’: “I was trembling.
“He was standing on the corner and he was shouting. I didn’t understand what was going on because I couldn’t hear him.
“We got off and then someone told me he said that he didn’t like the show and he said that we were discriminating. I just can’t believe that a man thought it was okay to stand up and interrupt the show.
“It’s like, why can’t I be a normal actress and go out and perform without being interrupted? You know what it [has] only fuelled the fire in me.
“After I finished the performance, that’s when it hit me. I cried a lot.”

Phoebe Waller Bridge says working on ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ felt like she was in a ‘gang’

OHMYGOSSIP — Phoebe Waller Bridge says working on ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ felt like she was part of a “gang”.
The ‘Fleabag’ star, 37, plays Helena Shaw in the fifth Jones instalment, the goddaughter of Harrison Ford’s iconic archaeologist, and said even though she was initially starstruck on set she soon settled in.
She said at a screening of the film at the 69th Taormina Film Festival at the open air Greek Theater: “I think it might take a little while to process. I was always a big fan and all of a sudden you’re meeting Harrison and Mads (Mikkelsen), and I’m like, ‘Oh s***,’ but honestly, within 15 seconds, it just felt like we were a gang. I enjoyed working with them and (director) Jim (Mangold) so much.”
Helena Shaw is described by Jim as the “catalyst” of the film as she kicks off the film’s plot after dragging her godfather into a drama.
The filmmakers described the character as “slippery, charming, the girl next door, a grifter” with “machine-gun” dialogue.
Phoebe was joined at the film festival screening by ‘Casino Royale’ actor Mads, 57, who said he had always been a boyhood fan of the Jones series.
He told Variety at the event: “I was 15 and with my brother, we had a VHS player and we rented five films.
“‘Indiana Jones’ was the first one we watched. And then we skipped the other ones. We watched ‘Indiana Jones’ five times. So it had just the biggest impact on my generation as a film.”
On stage, he admitted to wishing to be Indiana Jones when he grew up but was happy to settle on playing the Nazi villain, adding: “I would have played the cat in this film.
“It’s always fun to die in a film. It means that you’re important in some way, right? And I’ve not died in Danish, German and French. So if they offer me something in English I’m game, but I’m not like starving for it. I do a lot of interesting stuff back home.”

James Gunn declares superhero film stories have gotten ‘lazy’

OHMYGOSSIP — James Gunn has declared superhero movie stories have gotten “lazy”.
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director, 56, also assured fans the company will not “overextend” itself with content as it begins to launch a new DC Universe that includes his ‘Superman: Legacy’ and others.
He said during a recent interview on the ‘Inside of You’ podcast, after becoming the new co-boss of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran: “We’re going to be very careful with the product that we put out and making sure everything is as good as it can possibly be.”
Gunn added lazy storytelling is a huge issue facing the superhero genre, saying: “People have gotten really lazy with their superhero stories. And they have gotten to the place where, ‘Oh, it’s a superhero, let’s make a movie about it.’ “And then, ‘Oh, let’s make a sequel, because the first one did pretty well,’ and they aren’t thinking about, ‘Why is this story special? What makes this story stand apart from other stories? What is the story at the heart of it all? Why is this character important? What makes this story different that it fills a need for people in theatres to go see?’
“People have gotten a little lazy and there’s a lot of biff, pow, bam stuff happening in movies and I’m watching third acts of superhero films where I really just don’t feel like there’s a rhyme or reason to what’s happening… I don’t care about the characters. And they’ve gotten too generic.”
He added a solution to the problem is “having very different genres” within superhero movie genre instead of “this sort of middle-of-the-road type of genre and tone that so many superhero movies have”.
James said: “I like very serious superhero movies, and I like very comedic superhero movies.
“I like ones that are a murder mystery but it’s with superheroes. I like to see these different types of stories, as opposed to seeing the same story told over and over again.”
