Blindspot’s Ross Kemp says explosive finale will shock and entertain

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Blindspot’s Ross Kemp hopes people will be “shocked and entertained” by the drama’s explosive ending.
The 58-year-old actor – who played apathetic police detective Tony Warden in the Channel Five drama – revealed he has hope for his flawed character after Warden decided in the final episode to remain on the force to make amends for his mistakes.
Kemp told RadioTimes.com: “He should have taken all the money and run off to Barbados. No, it’s a really nice moment. And it also leaves it hanging open, not necessarily that it will be picked up, but through the experiences of life, we can either learn our lessons, or we can carry on making the same mistakes again.
“He’s made lots of mistakes, he’s aware of the mistakes he’s made, and he’s hopefully learning from them to be a better person. And we all go through that in life at certain points. Maybe I did that a bit earlier than Tony. I’ve certainly made mistakes and not learnt from them, but eventually you come around to learning and moving on. That’s quite an important life lesson.”
Ross is very happy with how the show ended and hopes that viewers will be too.
He said: “The ending is Beth [and Simon] going off into the sunset, and Tony in his own way. All stories should end with someone going off into the sunset, and hopefully people will believe it and be enthralled by it.”

Alex Jones’ husband in a ‘way better place’ after mental health struggles

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex Jones says her husband Charlie Thomson is in a “way better place” this year.
The ‘One Show’ presenter previously revealed that her spouse had suffered with his mental health after becoming seriously ill with Lyme Disease and viral meningitis but explained that he is doing much better.
Speaking to Gabby Logan on her podcast ‘Midpoint’, Alex spoke about her marriage, career and parenting three children under six.
She said: “”Well I think what drives me is the fact that we have got three young children, and I feel, for them, I need to do the best to preserve myself. Mum and dad have always been healthy, growing up we’ve always eaten a balanced diet, but more so, Charlie and I are focused on that. He also wasn’t very well last year.”
When Gabby asked, “How is he now?”, Alex replied: “He’s good, yes. He’s in a way better place now to where we were a year ago but diet has played a huge part in that. We always eat relatively well but he’s quite into nutrition.
“I think it was a way for him as well to fill his days in a sense when he wasn’t feeling well.
“And he decided to take on this kind of role of, right well we’ve got the medication but I’m going to see what else I can do to help myself.
“He used to be a chef so cooking and food is very much something he loves and it brings him a lot of joy. I’m very lucky he cooks most meals, but I do say it’s the glory job because nobody says ‘you stacked that dishwasher so well,’ so he does all the cooking but we eat really well.
“Lots of pulses, lots of greens, lots of vegetables, and this thing that was news to me that five to 10 a day isn’t enough, it’s the variety, eat the rainbow, I say it on a loop to my children.
“Charlie makes all their meals, which is brilliant so they eat really well. Don’t get me wrong Annie was having sugar at six months, Ted didn’t even see sugar until he was three.”

‘It was extraordinary!’ Christopher Biggins reveals ghostly encounter with a woman in a hotel bed

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Biggins once saw a ghost in a hotel room.
The 74-year-old TV star teased that a paranormal show could be on the cards for him and recalled a time when he was staying in a hotel only to feel a “terrible coldness” in the dead of the night and was awoken by what he thinks was a female ghost.
He told The Daily Star newspaper: “Do you know, I have just been asked to do a programme about ghosts. And I have seen a ghost – in a hotel. I was in bed, and there was a terrible coldness that came through in the middle of the night. And I woke up, and I saw a woman walking at the bottom of the bed. It was extraordinary.”
Outside of TV, the former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! winner – who has been married to Neil Sinclair since 2006 – is best known for his lengthy career in pantomime but explained that he has no fear of AI taking his regular slot as the dame because it just “wouldn’t be the same” in the end.
Asked if he was worried about new technology, he said: “No they’re not. I have no fears, I suppose they could do a Biggins voice but listen, it won’t be the same! I am still doing panto, I’m in Southampton this year doing ‘Snow White’, I think last year I worked out I’d been doing 40 years! Living legend is a great expression and as you get older, and I’m 75 this Christmas, I appreciate that.
”To be called a national treasure? They’re all fabulous things and it’s wonderful and when I look back on my career and see what I have done, I understand why people say that, I think it’s marvellous that I’ve done so much to help so many people. I enjoy life and I think that comes over and I love people so it’s good.”

Robert Englund regrets not making Crusade with Arnold Schwarzenegger

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Englund rues not getting to make ‘Crusade’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ icon had been due to star alongside Arnie in the blockbuster from director Paul Verhoeven and rues the fact that financial restrictions prevented it from reaching the big screen.
Robert told Dread Central: “I had worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the middle of the 70s. At the height of his stardom, he was supposed to do a movie called ‘Crusade’ for Paul Verhoeven.
“Paul was also at the top of his game and it was perhaps going to be the biggest movie ever made.
“My contract began with six months in Spain and I was to play the balding monk that carries his weapons for him.
“I was really looking forward to that, six months in Spain with Arnold, doing a medieval project. But they never got the financing, it was just too expensive.”
Robert’s career in the acting industry is captured in the new documentary ‘Hollywood Dreams and Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story’ and the actor stressed that he didn’t want his portrayal of the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ villain Freddy Krueger to dominate the feature.
The 76-year-old actor said: “So many people had approached me before and wanted it to be Freddy centric but there are some many great documentaries and journalistic articles about Freddy.
“I didn’t really that much to say and I’ve said it so many times that I feel like I’m lying when I talk about Freddy, but I have to repeat myself because that’s the truth.”

‘The bosses worry!’ Loose Women’s Denise Welch ‘couldn’t give a f***’ about people say on Twitter

OHMYGOSSIP — Denise Welch wants TV bosses to stop worrying about the opinions of those on Twitter.
The 65-year-old star initially appeared as a panellist on ITV’s lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’ from 2005 until 2013 before returning to the desk 2018 and has explained that these days television bosses are “so influenced” by those who write “vile” things on the microblogging website that it has stopped some people from being “outspoken” on screen.
She told The Sunday Times Style Magazine: “Some people won’t be outspoken about something because they’re so terrified of what Twitter might say. I could not give a f***. That doesn’t mean I’m not affected by unkind things that people say. But also if I think I’m right about something I don’t care what people think of me.” Someone like ‘Twitter user Doris1745’. Who gives a f*** about Doris? She’s got two followers! These are basically people who have never been on a date in their life, have got one tooth and live in their mother’s attic. All of our bosses are so influenced by these people who sit at a computer waiting to say vile things, and yet our jobs rely on what these people say. And it really p**** me off because we have to stop being susceptible to Twitter — it is not representative of anything.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress went on to add that ‘Loose Women’ – which has seen a number of household names including Ruth Langsford, Janet Street-Porter and Kaye Adams debate topical issues since its inception in 1999 – “reveres older women” in a way that is unlike any other programme and insisted that she, her co-stars and their target audience “do not care” what others think anymore.
She added: “It’s a show that not only employs older women, it reveres older women. It listens to older women, it supports the views of older women. You don’t get that on any other television show — that the older you are, the more you bring to the show, the more valuable you are to the show. Because you’ve had every T-shirt, you’ve worn it, washed it, thrown it away, got another one, you’re not so bothered. All us older ones, we’ve all had a past, and we don’t care so much about what people think any more.”

Stephanie Hsu reveals ‘whole gay’ subplot cut from Joy Ride

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Hsu has revealed that a gay romance was cut from ‘Joy Ride’.
The 32-year-old actress stars alongside Sabrina Wu, Ashley Park and Sherry Cola in Adele Lim’s comedy about a group of friends who go on a road trip across China to discover their birth mothers and revealed that a “whole gay track” between her character and Lolo – played by Sherry – ended up on the cutting room floor but teased that the idea could be saved for a potential sequel.
She told Collider: “There’s a whole gay track between Sherry’s character and my character that kind of got edited and will be saved for the sequel. Sherry’s livid about it.”
In the joint interview, Sabrina – who also stars alongside Ashley Park and Sabrina Wu in the movie – agreed that the idea of a romance did “need to happen” in a follow up before noting that her co-stars had become like “family” in her motion picture debut.
She said: “Yeah, I know. It needs to happen in a sequel or something. But everyone is so quick, and some of those quick, off-the-cuff jokes — the movie is so joke-dense, and of course it’s the writers, but it’s also the actors who are just on fire sometimes. It is really scary to me. It’s like should-I-quit-comedy level scary.
“I had so many questions! I didn’t know what coverage was, how to advocate for myself, and I felt very much like Stephanie and Sherry and Ashley were like family and always checking in with me. I just would not be able to give the takes that I gave if it weren’t for them. I’d be like, “Oh yeah? You like that? Um, I feel terrible, but yeah, you know best!” It was good to just feel like I could say what I thought was funny and try — whatever, you get what I’m saying!”

‘It felt too good to be true! Stephanie Davis didn’t expect to land comeback role on Corrie

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Davis didn’t expect to land a part in ‘Coronation Street’ after three years away from acting.
The 30-year-old star played the role of Sinead O’Connor on Channel 4’s ‘Hollyoaks’ on and off from 2010 until 2019 but has now returned to acting in the part of seductress Courtney Vance on ITV1’s long-running soap opera even though she didn’t expect to land the job in what was her first attempt at a comeback.
Stephanie – who was initially sacked from the Channel 4 soap in 2015 after being deemed “unfit for work” but returned for a short stint from 2018 until 2019 – said: “You know when you have that feeling, ‘This is too good to be true, everything is happening too quick’? This was my first audition back after three years.“
“As soon as I read the brief for the character I was like, ‘This is mine. This is mine’. I did the audition then went through this wave of emotions. I do believe everything happens for a reason, but my first audition back? No one gets that.”
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star was discovered as an actress in 2010 when Andrew Lloyd Webber was searching for a girl to play Dorothy in his London production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ through the BBC talent show ‘Over the Rainbow’ – which was eventually won by Danielle Hope – and went on to explain that in the years before she found fame, she had even written a poem about joining the famous cobbles of ‘Coronation Street’ so the career move is a “dream come true” for her.
She added: “I wrote a poem when I was about 13 or 14, which read, ‘One day I will be on the cobbles of ‘Coronation Street”, My mum had put it in her bedside drawer and got it out the other day. She said, ‘How amazing is that? You wrote that as a child as one of your dreams and now you’re doing it’. It really is a dream come true.”

Paul O’Grady once impersonated the Grim Reaper to comfort a dying child

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady impersonated the Grim Reaper to comfort a dying child.
The late TV legend died in March at the age of 67 and now his widower Andre Portasio, 42, has revealed that he once took on the role of the berobed skeleton who serves as the personification of death for a phone call to amuse a young boy before he passed away.
Andre is quoted by The Daily Star as saying: “This young boy was very ill and he had only a few hours to live. Paul called him and said, ‘Hello this is Paul O’Grady, it’s very nice to speak to you. You know me for my day job but what you don’t know of me is I also work as the Grim Reaper. I’ve spoken to my boss and tonight is not your night. You have so much more to live and to enjoy and to experience.'”
Andre went on to add that the young boy in question was able to stand up after his chat with Paul and spent the “whole evening” with his family before ultimately passing away just a few days later.
He added: “Later we found out that the boy stood up, took a shower, had a meal and sat with his family for the whole evening. Unfortunately he died a few days later.”
Andre recently revealed that following the death of the ‘For the Love of Dogs’ star – who shot to fame in the 1980s as pioneering drag queen Lily Savage – he was unable to leave the house for three months as he tried to cope with his loss.
Speaking at the British LGBT Awards on Friday (23.06.23) – where he collected an award on behalf of Paul – he added: “I have kept myself to myself since Paul died. This is the first day that I actually left home. But I came here for a good cause. Paul is a trailblazer and always defended LGBT rights. I just had to be here.”

John Barrowman ‘quits Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Barrowman has reportedly quit ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ after less than 30 minutes.
The 56-year-old ‘Doctor Who’ star flew to New Zealand to take part in the gruelling challenge show alongside famous faces including Rachel Johnson and Bianca Gascoigne but he’s said to have walked away from the series after filming started on the first episode last week.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “John’s exit from ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ will go down in the show’s history as the fastest ever.
“They’d all got kitted up in their uniforms and had started filming in New Zealand when he chose to walk out.
“It is an incredibly mentally and physically challenging television show and the task they were facing was difficult.
“Most of the stars were shocked when after 30 minutes John said he did not want to take part any longer. He left pretty much then and there. It was all a bit strange and naturally, the producers who make the show weren’t best impressed to see one of their biggest stars turning on their heel and quitting before an hour was up.”
Other stars taking part in the show include former ‘Love Island’ contestant Ovie Soko, ‘TOWIE’ regular Pete Wicks, ‘Geordie Shore’ star Marnie Simpson and gymnast Ellie Downie.
John was previously seen as a judge on ITV skating show ‘Dancing On Ice’ but he was given the boot after a series of claims about “inappropriate behaviour’ on the set of his show ‘Torchwood’ emerged.
Speaking on an episode of ‘Lorraine’ in 2021, John said his behaviour was just “silly” and insisted the claims had been “exaggerated”.
He explained: “I think that if it was now, it would be crossing the line. I think that something that happened 15 years ago, it was bawdy behaviour, silly behaviour, it was being done in the confines of the set, and we were like a family, working together.
“The fact that it was stories that I’ve already told. I’ve been telling them for years. I haven’t hidden anything, they’ve been exaggerated, and they’ve tried to turn them into sexual harassment which it absolutely is not …
“The one thing for me, all the people that are making the fuss about it, they weren’t there, they don’t know the context of things that were done. The continued bashing is not good. We’ve moved on.
“Like I said, I would never do it now but what we’re not allowing people and myself to do … we’re not allowing people to learn to adapt and to change, and that’s the most important thing.”

Greta Gerwig dismisses Barbie vs Oppenheimer box office battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Greta Gerwig has insisted there’s no rivalry between ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ – and has urged film fans to see both at the cinema.
The ‘Ladybird’ director’s new movie – which stars Margot Robbie as the iconic doll – is going up against Christopher Nolan’s nuclear new drama ‘Oppenheimer’ when they are both released on the same day on July 21 but Gerwig is adamant the two summer blockbusters – known collectively as ‘Barbenheimer’ – both deserve to be seen on the big screen.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “It’s all love — double up, double up twice. I think you’ve got to see what the experience is, Barbie then Oppenheimer, Oppenheimer then Barbie. I think you’ve got to take all of the journeys.”
Issa Rae – who plays President Barbie in Gerwig’s film – also weighed in on the box office battle, calling it “hilarious”. She added: ” I love that there’s solidarity though where people tried to pit us against one another but now it’s turned into like a double-feature situation. Obviously you should see ‘Oppenheimer’ first and then cleanse your palate with ‘Barbie’ …
“[‘Oppenheimer’] is about an atomic bomb, people are gonna die. I want to end my weekend, I want to have mimosas and drinks and cocktails after Barbie, I don’t want to like sulk. That’s just my plan, as long as you’re seeing ‘Barbie’ I don’t care.”
The pair were speaking at the ‘Barbie’ world premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday (09.07.23) and also in attendance was actress America Ferrera, who filmed rollerblading scenes with Margot for the movie – and she insisted she was blown away by the world Gerwig created.
She said: “It just evoked a deeper childhood nostalgia for imagination and play and beauty and I just got emotional, I started crying. The world Greta created is just unbelievable; she’s such a visionary.”

Robert Pattinson was too ‘busy’ for Oppenheimer role

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Pattinson helped inspire Christopher Nolan to helm ‘Oppenheimer’ – but was too “busy” to star in the film.
The pair teamed up on the 2020 sci-fi flick ‘Tenet’ and despite the movie having a link to the 2023 war biopic, the 37-year-old actor didn’t have enough time in his schedule to take on a role in the latter film.
Speaking in an interview with Tara Hitchcock, Nolan spilled: “Yeah, Rob, off the back of ‘Tenet’, where we refer to Oppenheimer, and I had wrote a thing about this incredible moment that Oppenheimer and the scientist of the Manhattan Project had where they could not completely eliminate the possibility that when they triggered that first gadget, that first atomic device, they might start the chain reaction that would destroy the world.”
However, a special gift he gave the director got him “hooked” on the story of ‘Oppenheimer’.
Nolan, 52, continued: “We used that as a metaphor for Tenet, which Rob was in. As a wrap gift, he gave me a book of Oppenheimer‘s speeches from the 1950s, where you’re reading these great intellects trying to deal with the massive consequences of the way in which they’ve changed life forever, for all of us.”
He said: “I really got hooked and got hooked on the story.”
The filmmaker added that Pattinson was too “busy” to take on a role in the flick as he’s “very much in demand these days.”
The motion picture is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, and has an all-star cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh.
Nolan recently confessed that he was “relieved” to have completed the movie as it had left him emotionally drained.
He explained in an interview with Wired magazine: “I was relieved to be finished with it, actually.
“But I enjoy watching the film tremendously. I think you’ll understand when you see the film. It’s a complicated set of feelings to be entertained by awful things, you know? Which is where the horror dimension comes in.”

Dancing on Ice’s Matt Evers loses job of almost 10 years

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Dancing on Ice’ professional Matt Evers has bid farewell to the shopping channel ‘Ideal World’ after almost a decade working for them.
The 47-year-old figure skater and presenter lost his job on the British TV shopping channel after it went into administration, and hailed its closure as a “very sad end to a beautiful era of television.”
In a lengthy Instagram statement, Matt shared: “A very sad goodbye… to all my producers, directors, fellow presenters, guests, models, audio, stage hands, stage managers, buyers and production staff thank you for almost 10 years of pure joy.
“I cannot thank you all enough for making my experience with @idealworld.tv nothing but bliss. We cannot forget our viewers and loyal customers without you we were nothing. To those who hired me 10 years ago as a guest to this past year and believing in me to present my own shows I could not have done it without each and everyone of you.”
Matt admitted it was “scary” no longer being employed by the channel, but he’s hopeful that “another door will open”.
He added: “3 hours of live, non scripted, no ad break off the cuff television is definitely exciting. Things can be scary when something ends but rest assured when one door closes another one opens. A very sad end to a beautiful era of television. (sic)”
Matt will be returning for the next season of ITV’s ‘Dancing on Ice’.
Recently, the show has been dealing with accusations of a “toxic” workplace culture from Jason Gardiner, who was “p***** off” by Phillip Schofield’s response when he quizzed him about his relationship with a ‘This Morning’ colleague.
The 61-year-old presenter resigned from ITV’s flagship daytime show in May, after admitting to an “unwise but not illegal relationship” with the unnamed runner, and his former ‘DoI’ co-star admitted he asked him about the rumours while also sending a heartfelt message of support via a Twitter direct message when Phillip came out as gay in 2020.
Jason told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I went into a bit of a tailspin.
“I said, ‘I know this is a very difficult moment for you and I support you in your decision to come out, but I also feel that I need to ask you about certain rumours that are going around online and are you aware of them?’.”
He claimed Phillip simply replied: “Seriously?”
Jason was infuriated and “uneasy” with the response.
He said: “That was it. It was very dismissive and that made me uneasy because I thought, ‘I’ve reached out to you very authentically’, and it kind of really p***ed me off.”
The 51-year-old choreographer was an original judge on ‘Dancing On Ice’ from 2006 but left in 2019 after feeling “isolated and hung out to dry” when he claimed ITV failed to support him during his feud with contestant Gemma Collins, and he blasted the entire network.
He fumed: “ITV has its Be Kind campaign and has made this big push for male mental health — but it’s all bulls**t.
“There was no consideration for my mental health, my well-being, what I was going through.
“The thing that is so distasteful to me is that I worked hard for them, I gave them great shows, and I know that I helped make that show a success.
“I believe this toxic culture will destroy itself. This is opening Pandora’s box, and rightly so.”
Jason said he was happy to assist KC Jane Mulcahy with her independent investigation into ‘This Morning’ following the scandal surrounding its ousted presenter.
An ITV insider responded: “This isn’t our recollection of events.
“This was part of a wider conversation outlining the possible ramifications of legal action, and it was felt it would be inappropriate for him as a celebrity judge to be judging an individual contestant against whom he was pursuing a legal case.
“This was no way intended to be seen as unsupportive, more a transparency about the process.”

Kimberly – who placed third on ITV’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ in 2022 – is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “There were conversations, but I don’t think I’m going to do it. I have to be careful. I have to be mindful about the choices I make so I can keep doing the things I love. “I love doing reality TV, but it comes with a cost.”
The upcoming series of the Channel 4 military adventure show will see the likes of ‘Geordie Shore’ star Marnie Simpson, comedienne Shazia Mirza and Bianca Gascoyne – who is the daughter of football legend Paul Gascoyne – all put through their paces by trainers Rudy Reyes, Remi Adeleke, Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox and Mark ‘Billy Billingham’ in New Zealand when it returns to screens later this year.
Former ‘Doctor Who’ star John Barrowman had also signed up to the series, but reportedly qut so early on in filming that his exit will go down as the “fastest ever” in the show’s history.
A source told The Sun: “John’s exit from Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins will go down in the show’s history as the fastest ever. They’d all got kitted up in their uniforms and had started filming in New Zealand when he chose to walk out.
“It is an incredibly mentally and physically challenging television show and the task they were facing was difficult.”

Shirley Ballas still feels ‘guilt’ about her brother Mark’s suicide.

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas still feels “guilt” about her brother’s suicide.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge is doing a Skyathon to raise money for the Campaign Against Living Miserably and to awareness of suicide – which is the leading killer of men under 50 – after her brother Mark Judges took his own life aged 44 in 2003 and admitted to not being “educated”.
The 63-year-old professional dancer told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Twenty years ago, I didn’t see the signs. I wasn’t educated, I didn’t know what to look for, my mother didn’t know what to look for.
“I should have got in my car and gone up with my mother and I should have been there with him. So I have to live with that guilt all the time and I don’t want anyone else to live with that guilt. If I knew then what I know now I think he’d still be alive.”
Shirley labelled her brother as her “protector” and a great source of strength for her.
She said: “He was my friend, my go-to person, my protector.”
The former ‘Taskmaster’ winner has set herself the “target” of raising hundreds of thousands of pounds but believe she “could” hit seven figures with help from her co-stars on the BBC One Latin and ballroom competition like Giovanni Pernice, 32, or maybe the late Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, 42, and her rugby star husband Mike Tindall, 44.
She said: “My target is £200,000, but I’d like to think we could get to a million.
“Maybe Giovanni [Pernice] might come with me on one challenge – it’s a possibility! I think the Strictly boys and girls will get behind me.”
“I’d love to see Tom Jones – or Mike Tindall or his wife Zara!”
Shirley also confessed that the absence of Len Goodman – who passed away earlier this year aged 78 after being diagnosed with cancer – who she replaced as head judge alongside Anton Du Beke, 56, Craig Revel-Horwood,58, and Motsi Mabuse, 42.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Lomas is engaged.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ star – who plays villain Warren Fox in the Channel 4 soap -had been “planning” to pop the question to his long-time girlfriend, Jess Bell, 34, but still managed to maintain an element of surprise while they were on holiday in Mexico.
The 48-year-old actor told OK! magazine: “I had been planning it for a while and I wanted it to be perfect.
“We’d been in Lake Como a few weeks earlier, but we both adore Mexico, and I thought, ‘Where better than in our favourite restaurant in our favourite resort in our favourite country?’”
Jamie admitted to pretending to create a decoy for his celebrations by suggesting it was his birthday so Jess had no “clue” what was happening.
He said: “I suggested we should tell the restaurant it was my birthday – that way they might come out with sparklers, champagne and stuff and make a fuss.
“It was the perfect distraction because that’s just what happened and it meant Jess didn’t have a clue what was going on,” he recalls with a mischievous grin.
“Of course, all the restaurant staff were in on the surprise. So they emerged with a cake, singing and clapping with Jess sitting there thinking it was all going well and all about me and my supposed birthday.
“And then they changed the music that was playing to ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars.”
Jess confessed the moment was “so wonderful”, and thinking about it got her all teary.
She said: “Before I knew it there was this ring there, and everyone was clapping and cheering. It was amazing, so wonderful, and so very emotional.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all. It was a total shock. We managed to get a video of the whole proposal, too. It’s lovely to re-watch and remember. It still makes me cry!”
The ex ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ star – who has 12-year-old daughter Polly with his ex Kym Marsh – quipped he was “just glad to get it over and done with” as he detailed how he got a jeweller pal to help to getting the right sparkler.
He said: “I knew what she had in mind in terms of shape, which is just as well otherwise I might have just nipped and bought something from Argos!”
