Rob Brydon landed Barbie role thanks to Gavin and Stacey superfan Margot Robbie

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Brydon thinks he got his part in ‘Barbie’ because Margot Robbie is a “big fan” of ‘Gavin and Stacey’.
The ‘Would I Lie To You?’ host has suggested he landed the role of Sugar Daddy Ken in the movie based because its 33-year-old leading lady loves the classic BBC sitcom about two families coming together after a Welsh girl and an Essex lad fall in love and get hitched.
The 58-year-old actor – who appeared in the series alongside the likes of James Corden, Ruth Jones, Mathew Horne and Joanna Page – told the Daily Star newspaper: “I think this came about because I had a message a few years ago that Margot was a big fan of Uncle Bryn and would I record a message for her birthday.
“So I recorded a video for her. I think maybe this part is her way of saying, ‘Thank you.’ ”
Rob is not the only British television star that the Academy Award nominee is a fan of to snag a part in the movie as former ‘Love Island’ star Chris Taylor, 33, managed to get a cameo in the Greta Gerwig flick after meeting Margot at the premiere for ‘Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn’ with fellow Islanders Jordan Hames, 28, and Michael Griffiths, 31, in 2020.
He told LadBible: “There is a bit of a backstory. The lads went to a premiere. They met Margot, and then afterwards Margot shouted them and said, ‘Come to the after party!’ cause she’s obsessed with Love Island right.
“So then, I was living with the boys at the time, so I was like ‘I’m coming’ and she knew who we all were. She watches the show.
“So she comes up to me like ‘Chris!’ and I’m like, ‘What the f*** is going on?’ I dunno, she must have just remembered me from then.”
Chris was later invited to audition, and he reckons Margot had something to do with his line not getting cut.
Of her ‘Love Island’ love, she previously told PEOPLE magazine: “I mean honestly, if you start, I will not stop talking about ‘Love Island’. There’s so much I have to say about it.”

Coronation Street’s Martin Hancock wants to see ‘Spider and Toyah wedding’

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Hancock wants to see a “Spider/Toyah wedding” in ‘Coronation Street’.
The 54-year-old actor – who first played Geoffrey ‘Spider’ Nugent in 1997 and returned for his latest stint last year – has claimed there is still “a bit of love” between his character and his on-screen flame Toyah Battersby, played by Georgia Taylor, and he thinks their recent relationship breakdown is down to “bad luck and circumstances”.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Life has gone wrong between them, it’s just bad luck and circumstances.
“It’s sad – for now it’s just not workable. But I don’t think it’s the end of the story. These two will always have a bit of love there. I think he’ll be desperately sad about the way things have ended.
“Spider loves Toyah, and I would like to feel he’s leaving with unfinished business. It would be nice to have a Spider/Toyah wedding in the future.
His character was revealed to have been an undercover police officer this week, and has once again left the cobbles.
But Martin – who first left Weatherfield in 2001 before a short stint in 2003 and popped back last year – admitted that he is willing to “consider” returning to the cobbles once again as he loves the ITV1 soap.
He said: “I’d consider coming back to the show in the future, of course. I love the show.”
Last month, Martin teased “demons” were going to feature heavily in the storyline but kept tight-lipped with the details before praising the soap format allowing discussions around topical issues.
He told Metro.co.uk: “I can’t reveal too much. But let’s just say that there are some demons from the past coming!
“I think soaps have always had the ability to address really really difficult issues that you wouldn’t be able to, or that people wouldn’t be open to.
“So we’re allowed to bring in these changes in society, develop them and show them and maybe even come up with solutions for them as well.
“That’s where soaps are very good.”

It’s a boy! Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez welcome ‘utterly wonderful’ baby into the world

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez have welcomed their second baby into the world.
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress and the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro – who met on the BBC Latin and ballroom show in 2017 and have four-year-old daughter Mia together – revealed she has given birth to a baby boy as they made the happy announcement on Wednesday (19.07.23) morning.
Gemma wrote on her Instagram Story: “Little man is here! Her arrived safe and sound and he’s utterly wonderful.
“Mia is already the mother hen we expected her to be.”
The 38-year-old actress added that they are enjoying a few days in their “lovely little bubble” until Gorka, 32, has to head back to work.
She continued: “We’re all home together soaking up this lovely little bubble before Gorks has to leave for Strictly rehearsals next week.
“Thank you for all the lovely well wishes. Our family is complete.”
Gorka reposted the same message on his own profile.
The couple had announced Gemma’s pregnancy in January as she shared a number of sweet pictures, including a black and white snap of her cuddling Mia.
She wrote at the time: “Impossible to hide my belly any longer. I’ve officially ‘popped.’ Our baby boy will be joining our family later this year.
“We feel so incredibly blessed and Grateful to be on this journey again. Mia is absolutely thrilled!
“Although we may need to do some negotiating on names, as so far she’s adamant he’s going to be called Barbie.”
The couple are yet to reveal what name they’ve gone for.
Meanwhile, the loved up pair will be fronting their own reality TV show this summer as ‘Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens’ heads to W and UTVTV Play, sharing her pregnancy journey up until labour.
She recently said: “We’re so excited to be working with W on a project which, not only takes people into our lives behind closed doors, but also one that raises awareness of vaginal birth after Caesarean delivery, and an honest look into the journey of a second pregnancy after a previous traumatic birth.”

‘Make sure you have enough zippers’: Zawe Ashton on Marvel costume advice from Tom Hiddleston

OHMYGOSSIP — Zawe Ashton received valuable Marvel costume advice from fiancee Tom Hiddleston.
The 38-year-old star plays villain Dar-Benn in ‘The Marvels’ and tapped into the knowledge of her partner – who has played antagonist Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2011 – to ensure that she was able to take comfort breaks in her costume.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zawe said: “He also had some very good practical advice, which was: Make sure you have enough zippers to go to the bathroom in your costume.
“Which is very good advice, I realise now.”
Zawe did get some other guidance from Tom who told her to bring a “great work ethic” to the sequel to the 2019 flick ‘Captain Marvel’ – which is slated for release in November.
The ‘Nocturnal Animals’ star said: “It led to some incredible conversations about his experience being part of this franchise for over a decade.
“One of the main takeaways from our conversations was: ‘What you put into Marvel, you get back.’
“He said, ‘If you go into this with an open heart and a great work ethic and just want to provide an amazing experience for the fans, you’ll have an amazing experience on those sets.’ He really empowered me in that way.”
The cast of Nia DaCosta’s movie is led by female stars such as Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani and the star found it “moving” to see so many actresses at the heart of the superhero blockbuster.
Zawe said: “It’s this all-female sci-fi extravaganza, with a woman on the other side of the camera. I felt very moved, actually, being involved in it. It’s not an environment you’re often in – a huge-budget movie with all these badass women and Samuel L. Jackson. That just doesn’t happen.”

Christopher Nolan appreciates Quentin Tarantino’s retirement plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan admires Quentin Tarantino’s retirement stance.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ director explained that he can understand Tarantino’s pledge to retire from filmmaking after helming 10 pictures but also acknowledges the longevity of directors such as Martin Scorsese.
Christopher told the ‘ReelBlend’ podcast: “The truth is, I understand both points of view.
“It’s addictive to tell stories in cinema. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s very fun. It’s something that you feel driven to do, and so it’s a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping.”
Nolan appreciates Tarantino’s wish to bow out while his work is still of good quality but suggested that he has no plans to give up making movies himself at this point in time.
The 52-year-old director said: “I’m not sure that I would trust my own sense of the absolute value of a piece of work to know whether or not it should have been brought into existence.
“I’m a big fan, as is Quentin, of films that maybe don’t fully achieve what they try to, but there’s something in there that’s a performance, or a little structural thing, or a scene, you know, that’s wonderful. And so, yes, I understand.
“I think (I) wanted to keep a sort of perfect reputation or something, but also kind of don’t want to take anything off the table.”
Tarantino, 60, has vowed to retire after making his next film ‘The Movie Critic’ as he doesn’t want the quality of his pictures to decline.
The ‘Pulp Fiction’ filmmaker explained: “It’s just time to go out. I like the idea of going out at the top.
“I like the idea of giving it my all for 30 years and then saying, ‘OK, that’s enough.’ And I don’t like working to diminishing returns. And I mean, now is a good time because I mean, what even is a motion picture anyway anymore? Is it just something that they show on Apple? That would be diminishing returns.”

Ant and Dec officially start work on last season of Saturday Night Takeaway

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec are “officially” working on the last season of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ hosts have revealed they are currently in the midst of producing the 20th and potentially final season of the weekend entertainment show after hinting at the show taking a break after next year.
Alongside a snap of their writer’s room on their joint Facebook account, the duo wrote: “Series 20 is officially in the making #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”
In May, the presenting pair – which consists of Dec Donnelly, 47, and Ant McPartlin, 47 – announced that the upcoming series would be the “last one” for a “little white”, which leaves room for the popular show to come back to screens as it did after a break between 2009 and 2013.
Explaining the recent decision, Dec said: “The show takes up such a lot of our year. We just feel we need a little bit of a breather and that the show is going to take a little bit of a rest.”
Ant added: “We’ve got some very special look-backs planned as well as some very exciting new items.”
Afterwards, ITV boss Kevin Lygo commented: “When you think of Saturday night television, you think of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’.
“Over 20 series the show has become a cultural phenomenon, and while we eagerly anticipate what Ant Dec have up their sleeves for the 2024 series, we completely understand their desire to take a pause, take stock, and think about what the next incarnation of the show might look like.”
The pair are still keeping busy, and just last month they announced they are leading a reboot of ‘Byker Grove’ – the show that ran for 17 seasons until 2006 – which launched their careers when they played PJ and Duncan.
Dec – who will be producing it with Ant with their production company Mitre Studios – told the Guardian newspaper it would “help shine a spotlight on the north-east and the talent the region has to offer both in front of the camera and behind it”.
He added: “‘Byker Grove’ will always be very special to us as the show which gave us our break, so we are beyond excited. We are looking forward to bringing this fresh incarnation to a whole new generation as well as those who remember it as fondly as we do.”

Dancing on Ice star Vanessa Bauer is chasing big screen dreams

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Bauer is “focusing” on becoming a film star.
The ‘Dancing on Ice’ star is “keen to do movies” after working for five years on the ITV1 figure skating show and is taking daily acting classes to make her Hollywood dreams come true.
The 27-year-old ice skater told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “I am focusing on my acting now. I am keen to do movies. I’ve been having lessons every single day. I am being coached.
“I know I need to work on my acting so much so I am taking my training very seriously. I hope it’s going to pay off.”
Vanessa admitted that “hopefully” her foray into the industry is quick as she has dreams to deliver some “very good work” using the lessons she’s learnt on the rink.
She said: “Hopefully people are going to see me on screen very soon. I want to do some very good work.
“After all my years as a figure skater, I know what it’s like to train hard for something and become good at your craft.”
Vanessa is also reportedly set to strip off for ‘The Real Full Monty’ after losing her dad to cancer, and is appears she will help raise awareness on the ITV show with the likes of Paul Burrell also said to be taking part.
An insider told the Sun newspaper last week: “Vanessa sadly lost her dear dad to cancer in 2021 so when she was asked to take part in she jumped at the chance.”
The source continued: “It was incredibly emotional for both Vanessa and Paul during filming but they knew by taking part they would help to make a difference and get people checking themselves.
‘Naturally there were lots of laughs along the way — getting your kit off on camera makes people incredibly silly but it was all very good fun.”

Richard Cadell jokes Sooty and Sweep could ‘never get away’ with antics on CBeebies

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Cadell has suggested Sooty and Sweep couldn’t have worked on the BBC.
The 54-year-old star – who took over from creator Harry Corbett’s son Matthew following his retirement in 1998 and bought the rights to the franchise a decade later – has weighed in on the mischievous character’s longevity as the beloved bear turns 75 this week.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “We have a little in-joke when we make this show for ITV and say, ‘You’d never get away with this on CBeebies’.
“The only outlet for kids to see good old slapstick and pies in the face is ‘The Sooty Show’.
“There’s nothing funnier for a kid to see an adult – the role I play in it, effectively a parent – disgraced with a pie dripping down them, soaking in paint or baked beans.”
Richard admitted the nature of the characters – which include Sooty, pooch sidekick Sweep and their panda pal Soo – mean they have more freedom.
He explained: “Because Sooty doesn’t speak and Sweep squeaks it’s all so gentle and done with kindness, there’s no aggression. They get away with anything.”
Richard pointed out that he, Harry and Matthew Corbett have “all had an equal tenure”, and the spirit has stayed alive through its consistency.
He added: “What’s incredible for me is the fact the material that Harry Corbett was doing with Sooty – the jokes, the slapstick, the routines – are exactly the same as Matthew was doing – and I am.”
Meanwhile, he acknowledged that Sooty is always the star of the show, and working with him – which is a dream come true – brought its own set of pressures.
He explained: “The first time I walked on stage as Sooty’s right hand man, the crowd didn’t know who I was but they went ballistic.
“That’s when I went, ‘This is real. This little bear isn’t part of me. They’re not bothered about me.’
“I just knew I had a big responsibility.”

Tyrique questions his Love Island co-stars over dumping

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’s Tyrique Hyde believes Whitney and Lochan made the “wrong decision” during the latest dumping.
The couple opted to dump Kady and Ouzy over Mitchel and Ella B earlier this week – but Tyrique has now questioned the wisdom of their decision.
Reflecting on the choice, the 24-year-old star said: “I’ll be real, I don’t envy you lot. But I feel like it might be the wrong decision.”
Abi then added: “It’s not ‘Have a Good Characteristic Island’.”
Ella was angered by the comment and she decided to confront Abi about it.
She told her: “I shouldn’t be made to feel unwelcome that I’ve come back. I feel like you’re very bitter about the me and Mitch situation.”
Whitney and Lochan were forced to chose which couple to save, after they were named as the public’s favourite duo.
But ultimately, Kady and Ouzy were both philosophical about the decision to send them home.
Asked how she felt about the decision, Kady replied: “I’m fine with it because I know we have a connection and we’re going to carry on on the outside.”
Ouzy added: “I’m glad that I’m getting the chance to leave with her, rather than leaving alone.”
Earlier in the episode on Tuesday (18.07.23), Amber and Josh were dumped from the villa, with host Maya Jama revealing that they were the couple with the fewest public votes.
Despite this, Amber insisted she “wasn’t too sad to be leaving”.
She added: “I feel like I’ve made some really great friendships in here and I’ve enjoyed the experience.”

Big Brother’ bosses rule out casting Love Island-type contestants

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ bosses have ruled out casting “Love Island-type contestants or fame-hungry influencers”.
Casting for the rebooted show is currently in its final stages and ITV bosses have insisted that it will see a return to its glory days with interesting contestants who are not just seeking fame.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV biz column: “Casting for the new series opened in October last year and there’s been an overwhelming response.
“Bosses have been blown away by the interest in Big Brother – but it shouldn’t be surprising given it’s the original reality show.
“The casting team and producers are now in the final selection stages and have shortlisted their favourite applicants.
“So far the potential housemates selected are diverse and reflective of the population. They’re hoping long-time fans of the show and new viewers are represented on screen.
“Applications have been extended for the final time to catch any last minute hopefuls but the process is very much almost complete.”
AJ Odudu and Will Best will host the show, while original narrator Marcus Bentley will return.
Announcing the gig, AJ wrote on Instagram: “This is not a drill! I’m beyond excited to finally be able to say that, I am hosting Big Brother! I couldn’t be more ecstatic to front such an iconic show and to do it alongside my amazing friend @iamwillbest is the icing on the cake. Get ready to be obsessed! Big Brother House, I’m coming to get you!”

‘They offered an insultingly 98 per cent pay cut’: Les Dennis reveals why he really quit Family Fortunes

OHMYGOSSIP — Les Dennis quit ‘Family Fortunes’ because ITV were planning to slash his pay by 98 per cent.
The 69-year-old actor and presenter hosted the game show from 1987 to 2002 but quit after the “insulting” offer by TV bosses.
Speaking to presenter Kate Thornton on her podcast ‘White Wine Question Time’, he explained: “I’d just come out of the ‘Big Brother’ house and the phone wasn’t, you know (ringing). I went in thinking that I was going to get a reboot, everybody says they’re going to the ‘Big Brother’ house or a show like that for charity or whatever, and certainly at that time there was no fee when we were doing those… there was no fee.
“You say, ‘oh, I’m going in for charity’, but I was going in to try and kick start again because ‘Family Fortunes’ had ended. I’d decided to leave it because it had gone to a daytime slot. I left it because of money, to be honest. They offered an insultingly 98 per cent pay cut.
“You go in for a reboot because the phone wasn’t ringing. But it certainly wasn’t ringing after!”
However, Les revealed his ill-advised stint on ‘Big Brother’ did lead to a career resurgence as Ricky Gervais spotted him and cast him in ‘Extras’.
He said: “If I hadn’t done Big Brother then Ricky Gervais wouldn’t have called me and invited me on to Extras. Playing, as he called it, a twisted, demented version of myself. I even added my own stuff. I smashed that Les Miserables image.”

‘There’s a lot going on for my character’: Danny Walters teases Christmas demise for EastEnders’ Keanu

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ actor Danny Walters has hinted Keanu could die at Christmas.
The 30-year-old teased the demise of his alter-ego on the BBC soap after Keanu lied to his fiance Sharon Watts and stole thousands from Albert Square hardman Phil Mitchell.
Danny told The Mirror: “It’s not what I can tease, it’s what I can’t say. There’s a lot going on for my character, for character he’s involved with. I really want to tell you a lot of things coming up. The storylines are so juicy and fun for me to play and it’s going to be fun for the audience to watch. I want to say more!”
A sneak peek at the festive episode sees an unidentified dead body on the floor of the Queen Vic pub, with six of the show’s female characters surrounding it.
Danny went on: “It’s interesting, because the females that are involved in the flashforward, they are attached and associated with men in their life. And anyone who is attached or associated to those women… there is speculation it could be myself, it could be anyone who’s a male on the Square who’s associated with the women. Whoever it’s going to be I have faith, I trust in the producers that the storyline will be incredible and will be a storyline that has got the nation speculating and talking.
“One time I might have a theory and then that might debunk what I thought. Every time I read the next scripts, I’m always changing my theory. It’s fun for me to be a part of that storyline but scary that you might not have a job next year!”
‘EastEnders’ boss Chris Clenshaw has been working on the whodunnit idea since he first joined the show in 2022.
He said: “It’s been in the pipeline since I took over at the beginning of last year. I was looking for a blockbuster story for 2023 and there was clearly an appetite for a ‘whodunnit’, but I was reluctant to play a ‘whodunnit’ in the traditional form, largely due to the spectacularly brilliant ‘Who Killed Lucy’ storyline, that was not just hugely successful but also incredibly gripping throughout.”

Zack Morris: ‘Quitting EastEnders was definitely not an overnight decision’

OHMYGOSSIP — Zack Morris says quitting ‘EastEnders’ was “definitely not an overnight decision”.
The 24-year-old actor – who played Keegan Baker on the long-running soap since 2017 – quit last year in order to focus on new opportunities but he admitted taking the leap was quite daunting.
He told RTE.ie: “I had the backing of my team – my UK agent and my US management. We had a lot of talks about when was the right time.
“And ultimately, ‘EastEnders’ was the perfect training ground for myself – it was the perfect place for me to gain exposure in the industry, and also get a feel, essentially, for what every little part of the industry was going to be – be that working on set long hours, be that script changes, the everyday life of a working actor, dealing with the media, being in the limelight. All that stuff that’s valuable going forward.”
He continued: “I booked the show when I was 17 and I started on set when I has just turned 18. I was there for five years and it was a very impressionable time in my life.
“I felt like I was doing a lot of learning. I love learning and I love wanting to push myself and grow, so when it felt like it was time that I needed new challenges… As a creative, I just want to play cool characters, I want to tell great stories, I want to be involved in cool projects.
“When those opportunities arise… I had to go for that, so I needed permission to leave [‘EastEnders’] to be able to do that.”
And he went on to praise his former co-stars.
Zack said: “Everyone who works on ‘EastEnders’ is incredibly talented, incredibly hardworking, and to be an actor in this industry what I’m learning is that’s what you need – you need to want it, you need to be hardworking.”

I’m your man: Andrew Ridgeley issues come-and-get-me plea to Strictly Come Dancing bosses

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Ridgeley wants to go on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Wham! singer “would never say no” if he was approached to take part in the BBC’s Latin and ballroom contest because he’d love to learn all the difference dances, and he even knows he’d like to be partnered with Nadya Bychkova.
Speaking to BBC Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley, he said: “I would love to be able to dance properly.
“I would love to jive, I would love to cha-cha-cha, and I would love to foxtrot or American Smooth, quickstep.
“I’m not saying no to ‘Strictly’. I probably would (do it). My greatest fear would be not being able to remember the steps. As long as Nadiya was guiding me.”
The 60-year-old singer admitted his enthusiasm stemmed from a visit to a Salsa club while on holiday with his friends.
He said: “There were all these chaps, none of whom were particularly handsome, in the clinch with these unbelievably good looking girls and I was thinking, ‘yes, that’s the idea, I’ve missed a trick there’.”
Jo later shared her own excitement at the idea.
She tweeted: “YES. You heard it here first!”
Andrew isn’t the only star to have expressed a dream of taking part on ‘Strictly’ recently.
‘The Chase’s Mark ‘The Beast Labbett’ recently admitted he would “really, really” like to take part after shedding the pounds.
The 57-year-old quizzer told The Sun newspaper: “I really, really, really would like to do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Now we’ve got the weight down I’d love to do that.
“I’d love my own football game show. And if the good folks at ITV see fit to hand me one, I‘d grab it with both hands.”

Helen George and Jack Ashton split

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen George has split from Jack Ashton.
The ‘Call the Midwife’ co-stars – who have daughters Wren, five, and Lark, 20 months, together – have gone their separate ways after seven years together, but insiders say things are still “amicable” between them.
Helen, 38, said in a statement: “Some months ago, we separated. Our two beautiful girls remain the focus and I respectfully ask for privacy for this next chapter.”
An insider added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Helen and Jack’s decision to end their relationship has been amicable, and no one else is involved. They have just grown apart as a couple. Until now, only their closest friends and family have known what is going on, but in recent weeks it has been shared more widely.
“They are both incredibly committed to working together to be the best parents they can for their two daughters.”
Helen previously explained things worked between her and 36-year-old Jack – who got together in 2016 after working on ‘Call the Midwife’s Christmas special in South Africa – because they understood each other and the demands placed on their time by their careers.
She said in 2021: “It’s not like you have time to have hobbies at the weekends.
“You’re on set for a long time every day and you don’t get to see many other people. “We are like-minded people who understand the industry, the career and the long hours.”
Helen – who was married to Oliver Boot from 2011 to 2015 – was recently starring as Anna in a production of ‘The King and I’ in London’s West End, while Jack can be seen as Lenny Sampson in newly-returned school drama series ‘Waterloo Road’.

Margot Robbie ‘bribed’ Ryan Gosling into Barbie role

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie “bribed” Ryan Gosling into playing Ken.
The 33-year-old actress produced the ‘Barbie’ movie as well as taking on the lead role, and she promised the 42-year-old actor she would bring him a present every day if he agreed to sign up for the film – and Ryan was stunned by the deluge of pink gifts he received.
Margot told the New York Times newspaper: “I just bribed him really. That’s the basis of our relationship. ‘Just come do the ‘Barbie’ movie, I’ll buy you a present every day.’ ”
Ryan added: “There was suddenly this pink present from Barbie to Ken, every day, for a very long shoot.
“It felt unsustainable. I thought this has to stop at some point.
“There were times on set where I got a puka shell necklace. Thank you very much. You don’t have to keep doing this. I’m sure you have other things to do, like produce a movie and star in a movie, and run a company. And produce other people’s films. You don’t have to keep concerning yourself with this.”
Meanwhile, Margot dismissed critics who have suggested Ryan was too old for the role, insisting it shouldn’t be a barrier to people enjoying the film.
She said: “Barbie and Ken are technically in their 60s. So whatever.
“The first thing I thought when I heard that was, in Grease, they are supposed to be high schoolers, and not once in the 150 times that I’ve watched ‘Grease’ over the years did I ever not enjoy ‘Grease’ because I was like, ‘I need to go check what age they were.’
“They found the most charismatic, talented people to dazzle me. And that’s why I love that movie.”
But Ryan admitted he had some concerns, though he ultimately trusted in the vision Margot and director Greta Gerwig had for the picture.
He said: “I mean, in fairness, I doubted what I’ve come to understand as ‘Kenergy.’
“But at the end of the day, I trust Margot and Greta. They have such a clear vision for this that I decided to just Ken as hard as I could.”
