Marnie Swindells felt ‘liberated’ by Apprentice fashion

OHMYGOSSIP — Marnie Swindells credits ‘The Apprentice’ for making her feel more “liberated” about her appearance.
The 28-year-old businesswoman – who won this year’s show – acknowledged that she and her fellow female candidates faced criticism for their daring outfits in the boardroom, but she insisted it was important they were all able to express their true personalities instead of feeling they had to “adopt a more masculine approach” to be taken seriously.
Speaking during a panel discussion to launch the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Strength range at the Tower of London on Tuesday (18.07.23), Marnie told guests including ‘Love Island’ star Faye Winter and ‘Barbie’ actress India Harl: “The press actually gave ‘The Apprentice’ girls a really hard time for our expression in the boardroom and as it’s evolved from women in grey suits, all of us showcasing ourselves a little bit more and being more expressive – we took a toll about that.
“But I do think self-expression is so important in the same way, you protect your rights to express your beliefs and your view, it’s important to protect that right to express your identity and your fashion and your make-up and your hair choices.
“So it’s so important and I know it’s a really easy trap to fall into the idea of having to mute yourself and minimise yourself sometimes adopt a more masculine approach to what you wear If you want to be taking seriously like I did.
“I used to be a barrister and I would go to court every day and I would wear head to toe black clothes shoes, and my hair was slicked all the way back with absolutely no personality. And no reflection of who I am whatsoever.
“It wasn’t actually until going on ‘The Apprentice’ and having that opportunity in the boardroom to showcase different outfits, be more playful that I understood and was liberated from the idea that women have to mute themselves to be taken seriously.”
For each task on the show, Marnie was able to adopt a “different character” to show off the image she wanted to portray that week.
She explained: “With each task on ‘The Apprentice’, it required a different version of me. And it was like having a different character which also meant having a different hairstyle.
“So for the tasks where I was being a bit, warmer friendly, a confident, vivacious I’d go for big curly hair. The times when I wanted to stick it on someone and be taken a bit more seriously and, you know, fearsome, I’d go for like, slick hair braids and feel like a warrior.
“Hair is such a pivotal way of expressing yourself and women are multifaceted and their hairstyles should be too.”

Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis to reboot Takeshi’s Castle

OHMYGOSSIP — Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis are to narrate a ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ reboot.
The TV stars will voice the new edition of the 90s Japanese obstacle programme – which sees contestants try to battle against devils and giant foam mushrooms before the finalists attempt to take on Takeshi himself for a 1-million-yen jackpot (£5,500) – and it is to be brought back to life by Amazon Prime Video.
Romesh, 45, and Tom, 44 – who are filling the shoes left by the current ‘Gogglebox’ narrator Craig Cash, 62 – said: “Nothing is more magical than a reboot of a successful show from yesteryear, heavy though is the pressure in bringing back the wonder that is ‘Takeshi’s Castle’.
“We are honoured to be bringing back the maddest show of all time to a whole new generation; hopefully they can take away the life lessons we learnt from the original.”
The streaming service – which will drop the eight English-language episodes on August 30 – called the duo “ingenious”.
Dan Grabiner, head of Prime Video’s originals, said: “‘Takeshi’s Castle’ has a special place in the hearts of UK viewers, and Tom and Romesh’s ingenious new take on the show makes it as incomprehensible as ever, and very, very funny.”
The comedy duo recently discussed the urban legend of razor blades being embedded into the slides at Water Palace in Croydon, the area of south London the pair grew up in.
Romesh said: “The idea is somebody takes razor blades with them in their shorts and then as they go down, manages to permanently embed them in the water slide.”
Tom – who recalled the leisure centre closing when he was a teenager – admitted the tall tale was “frankly ridiculous”.
He said: “When you hear that as an eight or nine years old, it feels like something you should be absolutely terrified of but as an adult it feels quite frankly ridiculous that a kid would be able to stop halfway [down a slide] and then have enough about him [to do that].”
Romesh said: “As a kid if somebody puts that into your head, it doesn’t matter how much contrary evidence you hear, you still believe it. The fact is you are queuing up for the water slide, loads of people are going down the water slide and it is absolutely fine.
“It isn’t like they aren’t being torn to ribbons as they go down and there is a pile of kids in a pool at the bottom. But for some reason you think [the razors] are only going to hit me and everybody has been fine.”

Layton Williams ‘tipped for Strictly Come Dancing’

OHMYGOSSIP — Layton Williams looks set to star in this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Bad Education’ actor, 28 – who has extensive experience working on London’s West End after making his debut in ‘Billy Elliot’ aged 11, before landing the lead in ‘Everyone’s Talking About Jamie’ – is said to be wanted by the bosses of the BBC One Latin and ballroom competition.
A source told MailOnline: “Layton is an incredible dancer and performer.
“’Strictly’ bosses signing him for the show will ruffle some feathers because he is professionally trained and has extensive experience with learning difficult choreography, which many of the contestants, especially those from a sporting or political background, will at first find impossible.
“The show has been criticised in the past for recruiting contestants with a background in dance and this year will be no different as Layton is a star in his own right and known for being an impeccable dancer on stage.”
Recently, Layton gushed about being the voiceover star in the “unapologetically gay” same-sex dating show ‘I Kissed A Boy’, the UK’s first ever same-sex dating show which was presented by Dannii Minogue, 51, and aired on BBC Three.
After being asked what made it “different”, he said: “It’s gay! It’s unapologetically gay and the first one of its kind in the UK so I’m really honoured and proud to be a part of it.
“It’s important for visibility. It’s important for us to be seen and it’s important to show that our love is just like everybody else’s. It’s pure and raw and we deserve love. In the early days of our lives, we can feel like we don’t deserve love and we hide ourselves.
“We’re closeted and we’re told by the society that we grow up in that we should be kissing girls and then you have to find a way to get out the closet.”

Charlotte Crosby hopes mum will beat cancer in second series of TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Crosby is hoping her mum will be declared cancer-free during the second season of ‘Charlotte in Sunderland’.
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ documented her life in the north of England in the first series of the BBC reality show, and she recently confirmed it’s returning for a second run – and she’s hoping cameras will be around to capture her mum Letitia when she hopefully beats breast cancer.
In a post on Instagram, Charlotte wrote: “Series 2 will bring everyone completely up to date with me and [boyfriend] Jake and [daughter] Alba, we are praying it will see my Mam successfully complete her treatment for breast cancer and ring the bell.”
Charlotte was left reeling when Letitia was diagnosed with breast cancer while filming the first series of the show, and has been supporting her as she underwent surgery as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.
Letitia later revealed she had no symptoms at the time of her diagnosis, revealing doctors detected the cancer through a routine mammogram check-up.
She told The Sun newspaper: “It was just a routine mammogram, I have never missed one. When they told me it was cancer I was floored. I no symptoms, no lumps, nothing. Josie Gibson set for I’m A Celebrity ‘after being offered 6-figure deal to see off Strictly’

OHMYGOSSIP — Josie Gibson is set to star in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, after being offered a six-figure sum.
ITV bosses are said to have beaten off competition from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ chiefs to land the ‘This Morning’ presenter for this year’s series, and the “incredibly down-to-earth” star is expected to bring plenty of laughs to the jungle.
An ITV insider told The Sun newspaper: “Josie is hugely popular with ‘This Morning’ viewers and producers were determined to get her.
“She is seen as the perfect person for the jungle as she’s already such a familiar face on ITV and will bring her fanbase with her.
“She’s incredibly down-to-earth and seems to strike a chord with people at home. Plus they’re confident Josie will bring the laughs to ‘I’m A Celebrity’, as she already does on ‘This Morning’, and is guaranteed to get on with most of the jungle campmates.
“For all those reasons they were hellbent on getting her. And if she was lured by the glitter of ‘Strictly’ they weren’t going to let her go without a fight.”
Former ‘Big Brother’ winner Josie, 38, is said to have had a “real dilemma” while ‘I’m A Celebrity’ and ‘Strictly’ were battling it out for her signature, but the jungle show looks to have won the race.
The insider added: “Talks between Josie’s reps and bosses of the two shows had been going on for months and represented a real dilemma for the telly host.
“She knows both shows are hugely popular with the public and have the potential to boost anyone’s career who appears on them.”
Josie has progressed up the ranks at ‘This Morning’ in recent years, and now regularly fills in as co-host on the ITV brunchtime show.
She joined the show as a competitions announcer and roving reporter in 2019.

Christopher Nolan: Josh Hartnett didn’t screen test for Batman, he was interested in The Prestige

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan says Josh Hartnett didn’t ever screen test for Batman in his ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, because he was “more interested” in ‘The Prestige’.
The 52-year-old filmmaker helmed ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy from 2005 to 2012, with Christian Bale in the lead role as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, and while he spoke to Harnett about possibly playing the Caped Crusader, Nolan says the actor liked the idea of the 2006 movie instead.
Asked if Hartnett ever screen tested for the role, he told the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast: “No, it never got that far.
“I met with Josh and if I recall, he was a young actor whose work I was very interested in.
“I had an initial conversation with him but he had read my brother’s script for ‘The Prestige’ at the time and was more interested in getting involved with that.
“So it never went further than that.”
Bale went on to star as Batman in ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, and he also appeared in ‘The Prestige’.
The psychological thriller was directed by Nolan, and written by the filmmaker and his brother Jonathan, based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Christopher Priest.
However, Nolan and Harnett finally teamed up in his latest movie, ‘Oppenheimer’, which also stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh.
In 2015, Harnett admitted he “learned his lesson” after he said no to Batman, because Nolan then didn’t select him for ‘The Prestige’, but did cast Hartnett’s then-girlfriend Scarlett Johansson.
He told Playboy Magazine at the time: “I’ve definitely said no to some of the wrong people.
“I said no because I was tired and wanted to spend more time with my friends and family.
“That’s frowned upon in this industry. People don’t like being told no.
“I learned my lesson when Christopher Nolan and I talked about Batman. I decided it wasn’t for me.
“Then he didn’t want to put me in ‘The Prestige’. They not only hired their Batman for it, they also hired my girlfriend at the time.”

Cillian Murphy didn’t socialise while filming Oppenheimer

OHMYGOSSIP — Cillian Murphy didn’t socialise while filming ‘Oppenheimer’ and he really needed a holiday once the shoot was over.
The actor plays plays physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer – known as the ‘father’ of the atomic bomb – in Christopher Nolan’s dark new blockbuster and he’s admitted he didn’t go out much or socialise during the production because he was working so hard.
He told NME.com: “I didn’t go out much. I didn’t socialise much, mainly because of the amount of work I had to do … I became so immersed in the role.”
The 47-year-old movie star added that he really needed a holiday once filming on ‘Oppenheimer’ wrapped because he’d spent six months preparing for the job and then worked 18-hour days while the cameras were rolling.
He went on to say: “You always have to take a holiday after a job. It’s not because… as some journalists like to think, you’re a method actor or whatever. It’s because you give so much time to the job and then suddenly you stop. You have all this displaced energy, you know, so you kind of don’t know what to do with yourself … But I’m a very easygoing sort of person. It doesn’t weigh me down.”
However, Murphy admitted there was a sense of dread hanging over the cast during the shoot because they started work just days before Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
He added of the timing: ” It [the war] was everywhere, and we were fully aware of that. The threat [of nuclear war] has escalated and receded over the years since 1945 … and now it’s back. It’s always there, this Sword Of Damocles that is hanging over us.”

Strictly’s Janette Manrara ‘can barely walk’ amid pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer Janette Manrara “can barely walk” amid her pregnancy.
The 39-year-old star is expecting her and husband and fellow ‘Strictly’ pro Aljaz Skorjanec’s first baby any day now, and she has undergone acupuncture treatment to try to ease her current back pain.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Had some acupuncture today and hoping that will help with the back pain.
“Can barely walk now, but had a check-up yesterday and baby and I are doing good! More rest on the schedule today.”
Earlier this month, Janette admitted she “loves” being pregnant.
She told HELLO! Magazine: “I am really enjoying being pregnant. I love having a bump and watching my body change and grow. I have felt really good the whole time and I count my blessings for that, because I know it’s not the case for every woman. It looks like we have a bigger than average size baby, but I’m not an average size human and because of the width of my hips it’s advised that I get a C-section.”
However, Janette – who has chosen not to reveal the gender of her baby just yet – went on to add that she feels “really relaxed” about the whole process and praised her husband for his support throughout the pregnancy.
She added: “I feel really relaxed about it all. You really can’t plan everything because there are so many variables and I’m kind of open to all the different options and scenarios. So, I’m not trying to lock in a certain date or procedure, because you just never really know how it’s going to happen until the baby comes. And I think having that kind of openness in my thoughts has actually kept me quite calm.
“Because we’re both dancers and music is such a part of what we do, I want the baby to be born into that space of music and happiness. Aljaz has been such a great partner. He doesn’t let me lift a finger and he’s been cooking and cleaning and helping get everything ready. He’s been amazing.”

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa ‘hits millionaire status’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ncuti Gatwa has become a millionaire, before even appearing as the titular Time Lord in ‘Doctor Who’.
The ‘Barbie’ star, 30, is said to have “racked up a small fortune” after shooting to fame in the Netflix teen comedy ‘Sex Education’ in 2019 – where he played the openly gay Moordale student Eric Effiong – and signing up for the BBC sci-fi series.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Under normal circumstances becoming The Doctor is the career move that ensures you never have to worry about money again.
“It’s an incredibly lucrative position and leads to all sorts of spin-off work and acting opportunities.
“But Ncuti has already racked up a small fortune through sheer hard work and some shrewd choices of roles.”
Ncuti – whose Time Lord predecessors include David Tennant, 52, Jodie Whittaker, 41, and Matt Smith, 40 – recently told how his rise in show business has also included plenty of disappointment, because he has reached “the final two” in the audition process numerous times and lost out.
He told Rolling Stone UK magazine: “I’ve gotten down to the final two so many times. Then I meet the director and… I’m convinced that there’s something about me that just turns them off. I was sure this would be the same thing again.
“I’ve always felt that I’m not masculine enough, not whatever enough for these directors. I can play that, but when they see I’m not that…”
Ncuti admitted he was able to instantly “vibe” with Greta Gerwig, 39, who directed ‘Barbie’, the live-action adaption of the Mattel toy, in which he plays one of many Kens.
He said: “The Leo-Libra vibe was just there at that Zoom meeting.”
And he praised the film’s leading lady Margot Robbie, 33, for being a “very good party host”, after she took the whole cast – which included his ‘Sex Education’ co-star Emma Mackey, 27- to the stage show ‘Magic Mike Live’ in London.

Angela Rippon ‘in talks for Strictly’

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Rippon is reportedly in talks to become the oldest contestant ever to join ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former newsreader is said to be considering a turn on the next series of the BBC TV talent series – which would make her the most senior contestant yet at the age of 78 – after previously hosting the previous incarnation of the show called ‘Come Dancing’, appearing in a charity special and making a cameo on Strictly last year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It is such a coup to get Angela. The ‘Strictly’ team loved having her make a cameo on the show last year and that got the ball rolling.
“She was a real hit with viewers and then the bookers reached out to begin discussions about her taking part. It’s not an easy decision for Angela because she knows it would be very gruelling and physically tough, but she is extremely tempted.”
The insider added: “She loves a challenge and feels like this could be great for her. She was Mrs Come Dancing, so what a wonderful thing that she is going to be on Strictly all these years later.”
The TV star appeared on ‘Strictly’ last year as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations while she also took part in a Children in Need charity edition in 2011 alongside BBC presenters Sian Williams, Susanna Reid, Sophie Raworth and Emily Maitlis.
