Hayley Atwell ‘kept in the dark’ about her Mission: Impossible character

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Atwell has been kept “in the dark” about the real identity of her ‘Mission: Impossible’ character.
The 41-year-old actress plays a professional thief named Grace in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ – but director Christopher McQuarrie made a concerted effort to create an air of mystique around Hayley’s on-screen character.
The London-born actress – who stars in the movie alongside Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson – told Collider: “I asked McQ this and he just kind of looked at me. He gave me this look where he goes, ‘Ask me no questions, I’ll tell you no lies.’ I wish I knew, but it’s wise that they’re keeping me in the dark, as well, because it keeps me on my toes, too.”
Meanwhile, Vanessa Kirby recently revealed that she relished the challenge of portraying Hayley’s character in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’.
The movie features a face-swap between Vanessa’s black-market arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis, aka the White Widow, and Hayley’s character Grace.
She told Variety: “It was so much fun. It was the first time two women have got to do that.
“It was such an amazing gift – because I love Hayley – to channel her and get to play her for a bit, and to get to play somebody that was totally out of control.
“My character is usually so restrained and composed and in control; it was really, really fun to play someone a bit scrappier and a bit messier. I’m naturally more messy in real life, so I felt more at home in that sense.”

Hollywood is at a crossroads, says Jamie Lee Curtis

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Lee Curtis thinks the movie industry finds itself at a “crossroads” amid ongoing strike action.
The current strike centres on disputes over pay and fears over the potential impact of AI technology, and the 64-year-old actress admits that the industry is in the midst of a paradigm shift.
She told Collider: “I have a movie out in a week, and I have a TV show on the air right now and I can’t talk about them.
“Now, these are communities of people that I’ve worked with. Hundreds and thousands of people coming together to make art for you to enjoy on television, and in movies. And we’re not talking about it because we are at a crossroads in our industry.”
The Hollywood star suggested that people within the industry are taking a long-term view of the future of the entertainment business.
She said: “People take stands now for the future. And we are at a crossroads in our industry technologically, and the whole paradigm has shifted from what used to be a traditional business model, and it is gone.”
Meanwhile, Zoe Saldana recently claimed that there’s “fear” within the movie business amid the strike action.
The film star fears for actors who need to work “for their families, and have to pay their mortgages”.
Zoe, 45, told the ‘Backstage’ podcast: “At the end of the day, I don’t believe that organisations would be striking if they felt that there was a fairness in the game of the business that they’re in.
“I hope that everybody comes together and reaches resolutions that seem fair for all parties involved because at the end of the day, 80 percent of the members of our union live day-to-day, live pay-cheque to pay-cheque, and they can’t really afford to sustain a strike … so that’s where my heart is.”

The TV presenter admitted that they were “just so happy” during their time together in America.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “They were out in a nice part of West London.
“Aled was totally shocked as it came out of nowhere and all happened so fast.

Wicked was ‘so close’ to wrapping before actors strike

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon M. Chu has revealed ‘Wicked: Part One’ was “SO close” to being finished before the actors strike.
The director has revealed that filming had to stop due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, with the team just days away from finishing production on the movie.
In a lengthy statement, he tweeted: “Not done yet. Just paused until the strike is over and we can finish the last pieces of the movie.
“We were only a few days away from being done so we were SO close.
“It’s been very painful to put a halt to it all but we will be back! And we will finish properly strong when the time is right.”
Chu added that the the planned 2024 release date “shouldn’t be affected” and he will continue working with what they have already filmed.
He continued: “My heart goes out to our cast and crew who were cut short of what we came here to complete together.
“More to come but in the meantime I’m excited to excavate what we have shot for the past year here in Oz (release date shouldn’t be affected).
“It has been an extraordinary adventure… more to do. #WickedMovie”
The strike comes after the union tried and failed to reach a deal over residuals from streaming services and an agreement that artificial intelligence wouldn’t replace actors.
SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher has said that the actors guild is ready for a long strike.
She said: “Right now, we discussed what it would cost if it went for six months, so we’re looking for the long haul.
“The gravity of a commitment like this is not lost on any of us.
“It’s major. But we also see that we have no future and no livelihood unless we take this action, unfortunately.”

Boyega’s latest comments come after the star told how of his frustrations about his character towards the end of the trilogy.
He told British GQ magazine: “You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything.
“[But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”
John – who starred in the franchise alongside the likes of Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Mark Hamill – previously admitted to feeling “iffy” about ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.
The actor revealed he discussed his doubts about the film, and the direction it was taking, at the time.

“I didn’t necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that’s something that I spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about, and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated.”

James Cameron plays down film industry’s AI fears

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron does not fear artificial intelligence conquering Hollywood.
The use of AI to replicate actors on screen is one of the main causes of the current SAG-AFTRA strike that has brought the film industry to a halt but the ‘Titanic’ director believes that the technology will never be able to replicate a script written with human emotion.
James told CTV News: “It’s never an issue of who wrote it, it’s a question of, is it a good story?
“I just don’t personally believe that a disembodied mind that’s just regurgitating what other embodied minds have said – about the life they’ve had, about love, about lying, about fear, about mortality – and just put it all together into a word salad and the regurgitate it. I don’t believe that has something that’s going to move an audience.”
The filmmaker added: “Let’s wait 20 years, and if an AI wins an Oscar for Best Screenplay, I think we’ve got to take them seriously.”
AI is becoming increasingly prevalent in day-to-day life and Cameron pointed out at that his classic 1984 movie ‘The Terminator’ showcased the dangerous side of the technology.
The 68-year-old director said: “I warned you guys in 1984, and you didn’t listen.
“I think the weaponisation of AI is the biggest danger. I think that we will get into the equivalent of a nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don’t build it, the other guys for sure are going to build it, and so then it’ll escalate.
“You could imagine AI in a combat theatre, the whole thing just being fought by the computers at a speed humans can no longer intercede, and you have no ability to de-escalate.”

‘I told them that it’d make a billion dollars’: Margot Robbie made big Barbie promises to studios

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie sold ‘Barbie’ as a billion-dollar movie.
The 33-year-old actress plays the famous doll in Greta Gerwig’s much-hyped new film and admitted that she got slightly carried away as she tried to convince studios to make the picture by comparing it to ‘Jurassic Park’.
Speaking to Collider, Margot – who also produces the movie – said: “I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director.
“And then I gave a series of examples like, ‘dinosaurs and (Steven) Spielberg’, that and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years. And I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig’.
“And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”
Margot also revealed that she did not request to star in the flick and would have accepted another performer being cast as Barbie.
The ‘Babylon’ star recalled: “I didn’t want whoever our director was going to be – Greta being the first choice, but if she had said no – I didn’t want our director to feel pressured to put me in the role.
“So I was just really upfront about like, ‘I won’t be offended in the slightest. We could go to anyone. Whatever story you want to tell and whoever you want that to be, I support that. I’ve got skin in the game as a producer, I don’t have skin in the game as an actor, so be free with that choice.’
“And she was like, ‘Shut up, I want to write this for you’. And I was like, ‘You might feel pressured to say that, but…’ and we did that dance for a while.”
Margot continued: “And then eventually I just accepted that she did want me to play the role, and then she wrote it. She wrote me in and she wrote Ryan (Gosling) in, and it was our names printed in the script from the get-go: ‘Barbie – Margot, Ken – Ryan Gosling.'”

‘Make it make sense’: Love Island’s Kady McDermott takes swipe at Molly Marsh

OHMYGOSSIP — Kady McDermott has taken a swipe at Molly Marsh following her ‘Love Island’ dumping.
The 27-year-old star was eliminated from the show this week alongside Ouzy See after the pair finished in the bottom three of a favourite couple vote by the public, and fellow Islanders Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki picked them to go rather than Mitchel Taylor and Ella Barnes, after Amber Wise and Josh Brocklebank had been dumped.
After exiting the villa, Kady has taken a pop at Molly, who is coupled up with Kady’s ex Zachariah Noble.
Eagle-eyed fans appeared to spot Molly “smirking” when Kady and Ouzy were announced as one of the couples in the bottom three.
One viewer tweeted: “Oii @LoveIsland after seeing mollys smirks and that, run @kadymcdermottx back ONE MORE TIME!! #LoveIsland (sic)”
Kady – who was taking part in ‘Love Island’ for the second time, after first appearing in 2016’s second season – added fuel to the fire by replying: “Whilst she was wearing my bikini, make it make sense”
She also admitted it was “a shame” that some fans felt they didn’t see her and Ouzy have “something beautiful going on”.
A fan wrote: “Not the Islanders saying Ouzy and Kady have something beautiful going on between them but production team did not show us any of that.”
Kady replied: “We were/are it’s a shame the show didn’t show that (sic)”
During Wednesday night’s episode (19.07.23), Molly admitted she was glad Kady had left the Island, because she had been “struggling” after Zachariah opted to kiss Kady during this week’s Snog, Marry, Pie challenge.
Speaking to Whitney and Lochan, whose decision to save Mitch and Ella B over Kady and Ouzy caused controversy in the villa, Molly said: “For me, you’ve done me a favour. I’ve been struggling seeing Kady around with the whole Zach thing.”

‘It’s the hardest gig you’ll ever do’: Stacey Dooley opens up about motherhood

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Dooley says being a mum is her “hardest gig” yet.
The ‘Stacey Dooley Investigates’ star has been in some really dangerous and gruelling situations when making her documentaries on topics like terrorism, gun violence and war, but she has admitted it isn’t easy being a mother to her six-month-old daughter Minne, who she has with her partner Kevin Clifton.
The 36-year-old star told The Sun newspaper: “To say I have found the last couple of months easy would be totally disingenuous. I used to think people were exaggerating and being melodramatic when they were saying how hard it is.
“But, honest to God, it’s the hardest gig you’ll ever do.”
The ‘Inside the Convent’ documentary maker – who reckoned with her own life’s purpose when she investigated the life of a nun – admitted she wasn’t “ever deeply obsessed” with the thought of having kids, but would now do “anything” for her little girl.
She said: “I can’t sit here and say I was ever deeply obsessed with the idea of being a mum.
“But it’s bonkers, the minute you find out – I sound so cheesy, I can’t believe it’s me sat here saying all this – but you’re so in love. I just changed when I found out I was pregnant.
“And when they arrive it’s next level, it’s off the chart, it’s love that I have never experienced.
“It’s totally bonkers, you’ll do anything for your child. Anything.
“It’s quite humbling, really, because suddenly there’s someone a million times more important than yourself.
“Your sole purpose is to look after them and protect them. I’d never had someone who relies on me in that way.”
Stacey called it “hilarious” when she suggests extending her and Kevin’s brood.
She said: “Do you know what’s hilarious? You’re so tired and sometimes you really feel like you’re in the trenches, it’s a haze and you’re just trying to figure it all out.
“I think I would love to have more babies. But I said to Kev the other day, ‘Don’t you want to do this again?’. And he went, ‘Are you nuts? You’re over-tired!’.
“I don’t know how people have four children. I’ve had one and am completely failing.”

Rachel Riley ‘couldn’t remember the protocol’ when receiving MBE

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Riley “couldn’t remember the protocol” when she received her MBE from King Charles.
The ‘Countdown’ star “ran” as soon she was given her honour – which she was given for her work for services to Holocaust Education – at Windsor Castle, where she was joined by her husband Pasha Kovalev, 43, and her parents Christopher and Celia for the ceremony.
The 37-year-old star told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was a really special and surreal day! Pasha and my parents came with me so we all set off together for Windsor Castle not knowing who would be doing the investiture, but it was a privilege to be awarded it by the King.
“I think my nerves made me rabbit on when King Charles asked interested questions on why I’d received it and my experiences. He said he’s intent on doing more to tackle hate crimes of all descriptions and he gave encouragement for continuing this work. When it was time to shake his hand I couldn’t remember the protocol of when to courtesy and how to leave so I curtseyed and ran!”
Rachel – who is Jewish and has been open about her experiences of antisemitism – sang the praises of the ceremony, as she admitted that everyone made her “feel special” on her day.
She said: “Every single person at Windsor Castle makes you feel special and welcome and it was lovely meeting and chatting to the other recipients and finding out about their work. We went for a special lunch at The Ivy overlooking the castle afterwards and had a cocktail or two to celebrate.”
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who has two daughters Maven, three, Noa, 20 months, with her ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer husband – confessed she was “relieved that social media wasn’t around” when she first joined the Channel 4 game show in 2009.
Rachel said: “I think I’ll always be the new girl but what’s funny to me now is that our last series champion, Ronan Higginson, is only 17 so would have come to the show in my era, which is kind of bonkers!
“I’ll always be relieved that social media wasn’t around when I first got my job as the team could shield me from any comments I didn’t need to hear while I found my feet and worked out how to improve. I wouldn’t envy anyone coming into the industry now with so many instant, throwaway comments right under your nose in real time.
“I think getting older and also having kids means that you’re too tired to worry about the little things which makes it easier to see the big picture – you don’t pick apart small details of what you say or how you said it which you might have felt self-conscious about at the time. I’m still a numbers geek as I was on day one, so as long as I’m getting the numbers games I’m happy.”
