‘How many Mission Impossibles does he need?’: Emily Blunt urges Tom Cruise to make Edge of Tomorrow sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Blunt is “so ready” for an ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ sequel.
The 40-year-old actress admitted she would “love” to make a follow-up to the 2014 film – in which Tom Cruise played a PR executive who keeps reliving the same day over and over again as he battles against aliens – and has even had a script from director Doug Liman.
Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, she told host Josh Horowitz: “There was one that Doug [Liman] kind of slithered over to me. I mean, I would love to make it a reality but I just don’t know when or how.”
The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ star insisted she is “so ready” for the sequel and clarified she is “not the impediment” to making the project happen.
Emily joked Tom needs to step away from the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise – of which the seventh installment, ‘Dead Reckoning Part 1’ has just been released – to work on something different.
She quipped: “And how many ‘Mission Impossibles’ does he need? Come back to the side where… wasn’t he brilliant as a cowardly hero? Incredible.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the ‘Oppenheimer’ actress insisted she doesn’t think of herself as a movie star.
Asked about the difference between being called an actor or a movie star, she said: “I think most people would want to consider themselves an actor [first].”
But asked if she could be both, she replied: “No, gross. I don’t.
“I just think, to me, a movie star sounds sort of too separate of what we kind of started out doing and why we love it and why I love it.”
But Emily admitted the two concepts can sometimes blend together.
She said in the interview, which was conducted before the current actors strike,: “Julia Roberts, who is, you know, was defined as a movie star. But you can’t forget her incalculable abilities as an actor and how incredible she was in ‘Pretty Woman’, that the reason she’s a movie star is because she kidnaps you and pulls you in to this movie because of her phenomenal talents and her charm and her charisma.
“When someone’s got that wattage to them, it’s like you can’t rip your eyes off them. Maybe that’s what the movie star thing is but I see it often as like a blend.”

Dan Walker’s tears over new TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Walker shed some tears while filming new TV series ‘Dan and Helen’s Pennine Adventure’.
The newsreader has joined forces with presenter Helen Skelton, 40, for the Channel 5 adventures series, which sees them embark on a trek across the 268-mile walking trail The Pennine Way and Dan admitted it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
Dan, 46, told The Mirror: “There were a few tears along the way but mostly you have a nice hug, then you crack on. If anything it was more about fear because I hate heights and I don’t really like horses.
“I had to abseil down a 100-metre cave and go on the back of a horse, but I’m now best friends with a horse called Roger and I made it to the bottom of the cave,” Dan said. “As for the emotional side of it, if you’re with somebody for six weeks you go through the full range of emotions – serious, silly and everything in between.”
Dan recently took to Twitter to reveal when the show will air.
He wrote: “Some news for you all… our Pennine Adventure will start on Channel Five on Tuesday, August 15 at 9pm. Can’t wait for you to watch it and thanks again to everyone who was either on it or came and said ‘hello’.”
Commissioning editor of Factual Entertainment, Daniel Pearl, said in a statement: “We’re so glad to be able to bring Dan and Helen together for this series. Their friendship, talent and sense of adventure will bring a unique perspective as they take our audience on an immersive journey through the diverse landscapes and towns of the Pennine Way.”

‘Wishing this wasn’t happening to me’: Amy Dowden shares heartbreaking cancer update

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Dowden has shared a heartbreaking cancer update.
The 32-year-old ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star revealed her stage three breast cancer diagnosis in May and she underwent a mastectomy but recently revealed that she will need additional chemo after more tumours were found in her body following her operation.
Amy has been keeping fans updated on her treatment but admitted this week that it has all started to take a toll.
Sharing pictures of herself in hospital on her Instagram Stories, she wrote: “I hardly slept. Broke down into tears as soon as I got in the room. Port has been a success. Cold cap on. So far coping and not as bad as I thought with cold cap.
“But just wishing this wasn’t happening to me! Nurses here are just incredible. Thank you NHS and I’ve got my fellow pink sister sat by my side and made sure I walked through the door this morning.”
However, she later shared that she was feeling better, writing: “Got my tea which makes me feel better. Just feeling very emotional today mixed with nerves and fear but like my lovely nurse has said I just need to think of the end goal.
“I’ve always set dreams and goals in life I guess none like this one (always dance related) but I’m going to see it like this.”
Amy has been open about her diagnosis and treatment, recently sharing that another tumour had been found.
She explained during an Instagram Live chat with cancer charity CoppaFeel!: “For me, my journey, everything changed. I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.
“But then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours.
“And my pathology wasn’t what they were expecting, and they found another type of cancer and then they told me I needed chemo – for me that was a massive blow.
“It wasn’t in the plan, originally – and I know the plan you can’t get fixated on.
“So, all of a sudden, then I realised, and you get scared, but the oncologist did say that with chemo I’ve got a really good chance of a cure.
“I was really scared and I didn’t want to do chemo but then for me straightaway it was my dancing, like, you can take away my boob but you can’t take my dancing away from me and that’s what I get really upset about.”

Greg O’Shea’s Margot Robbie regret

OHMYGOSSIP — Greg O’Shea says turning down an invitation to party with Margot Robbie was “the worst decision of my life”.
‘Barbie’ star Margot, 33, is a huge fan of ‘Love Island’, which Greg, 28, won with Amber Gill in 2019 and after meeting contestants Lucie Donlan, Michael Griffiths and Jordan Hames at the London premiere of ‘Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn’, she invited them to an afterparty.
Greg was also invited to the bash but turned it down, a decision he still regrets.
Fellow Islander Chris Taylor, who recently had a small cameo in the ‘Barbie’ movie, said to Greg on Ireland’s ‘The Six O’Clock Show’: “It all started at the ‘Birds of Prey’ premiere, which actually I didn’t even go to. And I know you were invited to it but you decided to not go.”
Greg said: “The worst decision of my life.”
Chris continued: “But anyway, Margot got a message to the boys that went to the premiere to say, ‘Come to the afterparty’.
“I was in bed, I got up with the boys and we all went to the afterparty and Margot was there.
“She knew who we all were which was bizarre, she kind of came over and gave us all hugs and that which was bizarre. The after-party finished and she said to us, ‘Do you want to come to the after-afterparty?'”
Speaking previously about her love for the show, Margot said: “‘Love Island’ reminds me of living in London — watching it with my girlfriends when everybody was home from work.”

‘“I do think we all have to be aware it’s coming’: Jeremy Vine knows one day he’ll be too old for BBC Radio 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Vine says he will be too old for BBC Radio 2 one day.
The ‘Jeremy Vine’ host admitted he jokes with his pal ‘Question Time’ presenter Fiona Bruce, 59, about how one day they will get a call telling them “it’s over”, after the departure of their colleague Ken Bruce, 72, and his move to Greatest Hits Radio.
The 58-year-old media personality told the Daily Express newspaper: “I do think we all have to be aware it’s coming.
“One of my best friends is Fiona Bruce and… I say to her, ‘One of us is going to be told it’s over and we’ll ring up the other and go for this massive lunch and say, it’s been great.’
“Because we have to accept that. What you cannot do is, ‘How unfair.’ The unfairness is that we’ve done it for so long.”
Jeremy reflected on when he first came to the station in 2003, his predecessor the late Sir Jimmy Young – who passed away in 2016 aged 95 – was “so angry” about having to leave.
He said: “I was the youngest one [on Radio 2] for ages… When Sir Jimmy Young left, he was so angry about it.”
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who is married to journalist Rachel Schofield, 47 – also insisted using his professional connections to give their two daughters Martha, 19, and Anna, 16, “any advantage” was not something he is prepared to do.
Jeremy told ‘Loose Women’ panellist Kaye Adams, 60, on her podcast ‘How To Be 60’: “I would not dream of trying to get them any advantage inside any place I work.
“If they want to try for a career in journalism, good luck, but that’s not something I feel I can help with.”

Russell T Davies warns fans about Doctor Who’s The Giggle episode

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies has warned fans they “won’t be laughing” when they watch ‘Doctor Who’ special ‘The Giggle’.
Although the third part of this year’s ‘Doctor Who’ 60th anniversary specials has a lighthearted name, writer Davies insisted it is much darker than it appears.
A brief teaser was shared on Instagram, with David Tennant’s Doctor referring to Neil Patrick Harris’s as-yet-unidentified villain by saying: “He’s here. Driving you mad. Laughing at the human race.”
And Davies took to the comments to write: “Oh you won’t be laughing when…” followed by a sad-faced emoji.
Meanwhile, Catherine Tate has returned to the show alongside Tennant for a three-episode stint as part of the series’ 60th anniversary celebrations and she recently revealed that the on-set tech “has come up a pace” from her original stint on the show.
She said: “We worked in a green studio, and it has come up a pace from when David and I had been on it before, I can tell you that.
“The budget and the scale and the studio have all increased.
“Genuinely it used to be a tennis ball on a stick. And the director would say, ‘That’s a monster.’
“Now the tennis balls and sticks are much bigger – they’re absolutely enormous now.”
Catherine first appeared in the BBC sci-fi series as the titular character’s assistant Donna in the 2006 Christmas Special and went on co-star throughout the fourth series.

Yasmin Finney’s Doctor Who pressure

OHMYGOSSIP — Yasmin Finney has admitted she feels huge pressure about starring in ‘Doctor Who’.
The ‘Heartstopper’ actress has joined the long-running BBC series as newcomer Rose and she admitted she felt the pressure immediately after finding out her character’s name, which is an apparent nod to Billie Piper’s iconic companion.
Speaking to Elle.com, Yasmin, 19, said: “It’s obviously got a lot of history, hasn’t it? To play a character with such history, even just the name, you’ve got that pressure instantly that I didn’t have with [‘Heartstopper’ role] Elle.
“It was a complete mind-blowing experience when I got cast. I can’t really relive it because I was so in the moment. At first, [the show] had a code name, and then I found out what the show was and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve just been cast in Doctor Who.’
“It’s a trans character as well, and it’s such a blessing as well to be able to play such a monumental character like Rose.”
Yasmin will star in the series alongside show legends David Tennant and Catherine Tate, and new Doctor, ‘Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa.
She said: “I didn’t go to drama school, I’m kind of learning on the job. I went on the set, and I sort of sat back. I just wanted to see how they all do it. It was just amazing to watch TV gold on set. David Tennant and Catherine Tate are two amazing, amazing actors. I grew up watching ‘Doctor Who’, watching David Tennant and Catherine Tate. That was my era in 2003. It’s crazy to be on a show that deeply has a lot of history with me. It’s just really, really fab.
“With ‘Heartstopper’, you’ve got this amazing friendship group and you’re a young trans woman trying navigate the world around you, and then in ‘Doctor Who’, you’ve got this amazing family, which I’m not going to talk too much about, but you’re fighting aliens and it’s just a complete shift. With Rose [Finney’s character], she is very sure of herself and very confident. Both characters had a bone in me. One goes into family and one goes into friendship, and I guess they both go hand in hand. It’s just that one of the shows is sci-fi, ‘Doctor Who’, and one of them is ‘Heartstopper’.”

Millie Mackintosh: Breast enhancement surgery is ‘best thing she’s done for herself’ since having kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Mackintosh says her breast enhancement surgery is the “best thing she’s done for herself” since having children.
The 33-year-old star has Sienna, two, and Aurelia, 18 months, with husband Hugo Taylor, 37, and admitted breastfeeding had made her self-conscious about her boobs but the surgery has restored her confidence.
Speaking in an Instagram Q A session, Millie explained: “It was something that I had always wanted to do, since being about 18. When I realised that the breasts I had always dreamed of weren’t going to show up for me.
“I thought okay, ‘I can work with what I’ve got’ and I wore padded bras and I made peace with that.
“When I was in my twenties and I was on the pill, they were a B, but quite perky and then after breastfeeding both of the girls the skin just got so stretched.
“When I was breastfeeding they were enormous and when I was pregnant as well.
“Then what I was left with afterwards was a completely different, deflated, empty sack of skin that just did not make me feel like me anymore.
“Honestly for me, this has been the best thing that I have done for myself.
“I had my surgery just before Mother’s Day and it just felt like a lovely present to myself to make me feel like me again.
“It’s given me a boost of confidence. I’ve really enjoyed wearing swimwear again this summer and it definitely made me feel much freer.
“I’ve found confidence in my body again and it was just something I did for myself as a kind of reward for having babies.”
Millie first opened up about the procedure in an open letter for Grazia in May.
She wrote: “Like a lot of teenage girls, I was very conscious about my lack of growth and constantly comparing myself to friends, older girls at school and of course all the pop stars to Hollywood actresses that I idolised. Sadly, I was not to be blessed with the boobs I had so wished for, which lead me to try all the tricks to create the illusion of a fuller chest (two bras and as much padding as I could get my hands on – hands up if you did the same!). This along with a promise to myself that I would get a boob job at some point in the future after I had children and now felt like the right time.
“I had a few different consultations and ended up choosing a surgeon who was recommend by a friend. I liked how natural his work was and he understood that I just wanted to look like myself again (with maybe a little extra padding). So, I shared pictures from my mid 20’s and from there we chose the size that felt right for me.
“Now three months on I’m really enjoying the new-found adventure and I feel like me again! I don’t want to influence anyone’s decision to have a breast enhancement or tweakments. Every journey is personal – all I wanted to do was be honest and share my personal experience.”

Saffron Barker thought Celebrity Hunted would be ‘really fake’

OHMYGOSSIP — Saffron Barker thought ‘Celebrity Hunted’ would be “really fake”
The YouTube star competed on the Channel 4 show – where famous faces go on the run to evade an elite team of hunters – alongside stars including James Acaster, 38, Ed Gamble, 37, Bobby Seagull, 39, and Katya Jones, 34, and admitted she presumed the show was set up before she discovered the truth for herself.
The 23-year-old influencer told The Mirror newspaper: “When I first got the show, I thought it was gonna be really fake, I loved the show and I watch it religiously. When I first got it, I was like ‘OK, what’s actually legit?’ and they were like ‘Everything’ and I thought it can’t be. The thing with the celebrity one is they have to show a lot more of like, the entertaining side of it.
“The thing is on the show, there are certain things you have to attend an event or do certain things to make the show entertaining and it also makes it so much harder for you – you can’t just camp in the wild for a week! As a viewer, I used to think ‘Well why don’t you just stay in the woods?’ But you can’t.”
Saffron admitted that afterwards she “was a different person” for the better.
She said: “The show opened my eyes up, I felt when I left the show, I was a different person but in a good way due to challenging herself.
“You go through so much that you don’t see on TV, they don’t show the hard bits where you’re really struggling and when people close doors on your face. They don’t show half of it because it’s got to be entertaining. The faith that it gave me in humanity was just crazy after this show. It was crazy, it made me realise I’m tougher than I probably thought I was.”
“I had to camp out alone some nights and this is outside of my comfort zone, I had to go knock on somebody’s door and ask to stay in their house when I was alone – it gets to a point where you have to do it. It made me a lot more confident as a person.”

Paapa Essiedu warns film fans not to bet on him being next 007!

OHMYGOSSIP — Paapa Essiedu is warning film fans not to bet on him becoming the next James Bond.
The ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ star, 33, currently has 8-1 odds with bookie Ladbrokes to step into Daniel Craig’s shoes as the super-spy.
But he told The Times newspaper about having no idea if he’s in the running: “I’ve got nothing for you. I know as much as you do. Ask (Bond producer) Barbara Broccoli.
“And I wouldn’t suggest you gamble in any setting, any more than I’d let my career choices be dictated by (bookie) William Hill.”
He added when asked if he’d play 007 if he were offered the role: “I wonder how many people have ever turned it down?”
Idris Elba was recently reported to have walked away from talks to be the next James Bond after being named favourite to replace Daniel Craig.
The ‘Luther’ actor, 50, is said to be instead pursuing “his own film franchise”, but apparently suggested other suitable 007s to producer Barbara Broccoli, 63.
A source told The Sun: “Fans and Barbara wanted Idris but he wants to create something for himself.
“However, he’s put forward names to play 007.
“He’s ‘informally’ in the decision-making process as he’s been in talks with producers for so long.”
Daniel Craig, 55, quit the 007 franchise after his fifth Bond outing in 2021’s ‘No Time To Die’, with Barbara later saying Idris was in her plans to take over as the spy, hailing him “a magnificent actor”.
With Idris out of the running, Henry Cavill, 40, and Rege-Jean Page, 35, are said to be among the favourites to take the part.
They are still front-runners despite a film insider saying the new James Bond must be aged under 40 and taller than 5ft 10 inches.
A source told the Daily Star 007 bosses were after a “fresh faced” replacement for Daniel.
They added bringing in an actor in their “late 30s” will allow him to stay in the role for at least a decade or potentially three films.
The source also claimed filming on the next movie may start in winter 2023, but Daniel’s successor will not be unveiled until next autumn at the earliest.
Richard Madden, 37, and James Norton, 38, have also been tipped to play the spy – while the alleged 5ft 10 height requirement would rule out former favourites Taron Egerton, 33, John Boyega, 31, and 36-year-old Kit Harington.

Ice Cube loved playing villainous Superfly in new ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ film as there were ‘no rules’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ice Cube loved playing villainous Superfly in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ film as he felt there were “no rules”.
The 54-year-old rapper and actor added the human-sized fly character in the newly-released animation – who says his dad created the crime-fighting turtles by dumping toxic waste down a sewer – is a street-wise “king of New York”-style character.
He told Capital XTRA’s ‘Evenings with Omah Howard’ radio show: “Playing a villain is great – there are no rules playing a villain so it was just fun to be able to let loose.
“Superfly is the king of New York – everybody knows his name in the streets.
“Nothing happens in New York without going through Superfly or it’s gonna be a problem.”
Ice – real name O’Shea Jackson Sr – stars alongside Seth Rogen, 41, in the turtles movie, who plays the heroes in half-shells’ mutant warthog nemesis Bebop.
He said about the joy of working with the ‘Funny People’ star: “Oh he’s cool man. You know Seth – he’s just a fun guy, so easy to get along with, he laughs at everything so he’s just a dude who… you wanna make him laugh when you’re working, you know you’re on the right track, it’s just an honour to work with him.
“I’ve been watching his work for two decades. My son had a chance to work with him in ‘Longshot’ and now it’s my turn – I’m happy.”
Micah Abbey voices turtle Donatello in the new animation, while Shamon Brown Jr is Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu plays Leonardo and Brady Noon is Raphael – with Jackie Chan voicing their wise rat mentor Splinter.
Cube added starring in the film about the characters created in 1984 took him back to his early days of loving hip-hop at house parties – which he said could end up in shooting.
He said: “It depends on which party you went to, house parties could get real wicked, but see, people don’t slow dance no more, we used to dim the lights, we all up on it – we ain’t trying to show our moves, we trying to get close so it was a different style and then you had the ’hood dudes that come through, they wasn’t invited so what do they wanna do, turn the party out, they were ready to send everybody home so you might hear a little bap-bap-bap outside and you gotta move on, it was crazy.”

Warner Bros Discovery have saved in the “low $100 million range” as the actors’ and writers’ strike continues to cripple Hollywood.

OHMYGOSSIP — The actors’ and writers’ strike continuing to cripple Hollywood has led to Warner Bros Discovery saving in the “low $100 million range” in three months.
Executives reported their spending has plummeted during the second financial quarter of the year as they revealed their earnings on Thursday. (03.08.23)
Negotiations are still to resume between the unions and the studios, but WBD – whose stable includes its flagship Warner Bros film studio, as well as HBO and CNN Global – says it is currently projecting an “early September” end to the strikes and return to TV and film production.
Variety reported Gunnar Wiedenfels – chief financial officer of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) – revealed on a call with financial analysts about the company’s results from 1 April to 30 June that “uncertainty” among studios as a result of the strikes “may have implications for the timing and performance of the remainder of the film slate, as well as our ability to produce and deliver content”.
He added: “While we are hoping for a fast resolution, our modelling assumes a return to work date in early September.
“Should the strikes run through the end of the year, I would expect several $100 million upside to our free cash flow guidance and some incremental downside for adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation.)”
Only Writers Guild of America (WGA) members were on strike during WBD’s second financial quarter, but TV and film productions were already severely impacted by their work stoppage.
Variety also reported WBD’s CEO David Zaslav said on the firm’s call with financial analysts about the strike’s impact on its second quarter: “We’re in the business of storytelling. Our goal is to tell great stories, stories with the power to entertain and, when we’re at our best, inspire with stories that come to life on screens big and small.
“We cannot do any of that without the entirety of the creative community, the great creative community. Without the writers, directors, editors, producers, actors, the whole below-the-line crew. Our job is to enable and empower them to do their best work.
“We’re hopeful that all sides will get back to the negotiating room soon and that these strikes get resolved in a way that the writers and actors feel they are fairly compensated and their efforts and contributions are fully valued.”
The WGA has been on strike since 2 May after failing to reach a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP.)
And the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) joined them on 14 July after also failing to ink a new agreement with the AMPTP.
Mr Zaslav added: “It’s critically important that everybody, the writers, the directors, the actors and producers… everyone needs to be fairly compensated and they need to feel valued and feel that they’re fairly compensated in order to do their best work.
“And we have to focus on getting that done. I’m hopeful that it’s going to happen soon. I think all of us in this business are very keen to figure out a solution as quickly as possible.
“We are in some uncharted waters, in terms of the world as it is today and measuring it all. And so I think, in good faith, we all got to fight to get this resolved. And it needs to be resolved in a way that the creative community feels fairly compensated and fully valued.”
Writers and actors are demanding studios raise pay rates and residuals for streaming content and develop guidelines around the use of AI in TV and film.

Randall Park’s directorial debut inspired by Noah Baumbach

OHMYGOSSIP — Randall Park’s directorial debut ‘Shortcomings’ was inspired by Noah Baumbach’s ‘Marriage Story’.
The 49-year-old actor is a big fan of both Baumbach and his partner – ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig – and he revealed they both inspired his new movie.
He told Variety: “The big fight scene in the apartment [in ‘Shortcomings’] — a huge inspiration for that scene was the big argument scene in ‘Marriage Story’. There was a lot of inspiration from Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig and her work, but as far as ‘Barbie’, I don’t know. I don’t know if I would ever tackle a movie that big. For now I feel very comfortable in the very intimate spaces of people just walking and talking and hanging out in diners. To me, that’s my pocket.”
The movie co-stars Justin Min, Ally Maki and Sherry Cola and while Randall is proud of the film, he doesn’t feel a huge amount of pressure.
He said: “I don’t know what to expect. This is a very specific kind of movie. We’re a small indie, and we’re coming out in a very tenuous period and also in the shadow of these huge blockbusters. My hope is that people who do go and watch it and enjoy it, that they spread the word, and that eventually we find our audience, if not immediately, at least over time. That’s the reason why I’m so relaxed right now, because I’m not feeling this huge pressure to break the bank.”

Dwayne Johnson says Black Adam got caught in ‘web of new leadership’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says a ‘Black Adam’ sequel was dropped because it got caught in a “web of new leadership” at DC Studios.
The 51-year-old actor had plans to make a whole franchise around the DC Comics character but after James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to take over DC Studios, more ‘Black Adam’ movies were axed.
Speaking on a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s ‘Hart to Heart’ show, Johnson said: “‘Black Adam’ got caught in a vortex of new leadership. And at that time, as we were creating ‘Black Adam’, developing it, shooting ‘Black Adam’ … it was so many changes in leadership. And as you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude that’s a publicly traded company, and you have all those changes in leadership, you have people coming in who, creatively and fiscally, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with.”
Johnson added that the decision to drop the sequels “will always be one of the biggest mysteries”.
He said: “You have the biggest opening of your career. Sure, no China, that could’ve been maybe 100, maybe 200 million more dollars. You’re establishing a new superhero and you want to grow out the franchise. You bring back Superman and Henry Cavill – the world went crazy. … We created a diverse superhero portfolio, where we have just men and women of colour in ‘Black Adam 2’ as well.
“As business-minded people who are always thinking audience first, yes we look at and respect the bottom line economically, but also when you think about opportunity and creating opportunity and creating things that are fresh and delivering for the audience, which is our number one boss, when that wasn’t looked at through that lens, it makes things a little bit more challenging.”

Sigourney Weaver calls for more films about ‘capable, diverse and incredible’ women

OHMYGOSSIP — Sigourney Weaver has called for more women on screen to be portrayed “as interesting as women really are”.
The 73-year-old Hollywood legend feels “lucky” she got to play warrant officer Ellen Ripley in Sir Ridley Scott’s 1979 Oscar-winning sci-fi horror classic ‘Alien’ because she could play a strong female and didn’t have to “look a certain way” like a lot of female stars have to in film.
Speaking to Parade magazine about more women killing it on the screen, she said: “Well, I think we’ve always had heroines like that.
Even the movies of the 30s, 40s, and 50s had Bette Davis. No one was going to help her [so she helped herself].
I [feel| I was very lucky to get to play Ripley as a person: I didn’t have to worry about looking a certain way: I got to live that life as that character who was sort of an every-man character. She managed to survive because of her character. No one else was going to help her.
“So, I hope it was helpful, but I think it took a long time for the business to change so that normal women, not in space, could also be portrayed for the strength they have, the resilience they have, and the independence they have. There are so many different kinds of women and most are not portrayed on screen to be as interesting as women really are, as capable. as diverse, and as incredible.”
She added: “To me, women are the ones who are keeping the planet together. I just reflect what I see, but I’m really thrilled that I got to play a part like Ripley. I felt it was my ‘Henry V’, because there weren’t roles like that for women in theatre or in film. So, I was extremely lucky to work with Walter Hill, David Giler and Ridley Scott, and be able to just tell the truth about Ripley.”
The ‘Avatar’ star reprised her role in James Cameron’s 1986 ‘Aliens’ film, for which she received her first Academy Award nomination, and again in 1992’s ‘Alien 3’ and 1997’s ‘Alien Resurrection’.
