‘I feel so lucky!’ The Traitors’ Maddy Smedley joins Hollyoaks

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Traitors’ star Maddy Smedley has joined ‘Hollyoaks’.
Maddy has landed a guest role in the Channel 4 soap as troubled influencer Rayne’s new talent agent, Faye Fuller.
The star said: “I’ve had a blast filming, everyone at ‘Hollyoaks’ has been so kind and accommodated me and bump so well.
“Faye Fuller is trashy, sassy and a bit cutthroat.
“I used to watch Hollyoaks and chat about it before school on the radiators. Chuffed to now be a part of it.”
Maddy – who announced in May she is pregnant – also tweeted: “Meet Faye Fuller on 21st Aug in Hollyoaks. She’s trashy, sassy and a bit cut throat! Hope you love her (She’s 100 per cent Fayefull, it’s even in her name.) Feel so lucky – used to chat about the show on the radiators before school. Thanks for having me @Hollyoaks Bubbly’s in the fridge (sic)”
She will be filming alongside Owen Warner and Jemma Donovan as the storyline revolving Rayne and her unsuspecting boyfriend Romeo heats up.
In upcoming scenes, judgemental talent agent Faye is to scope out the influencer in need of her help, and orchestrate the drama by hinting that fireworks get more followers.
Despite Rayne’s waning social media popularity, Faye is on a mission to get her on the next series of reality show ‘Love Cave’.
What’s more, Maddy has previously landed roles in ‘EastEnders’ – portraying a homeless woman – and ‘Casualty’, both of which she confessed to during The Traitors’ debut series last year.
Maddy’s first appearance as Faye Fuller on Hollyoaks will be on Friday 18th August on E4, and Monday 21st August on Channel 4.

‘I turned 50 and that’s not allowed!’ Ruby Wax reveals why her TV career dried up

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruby Wax has claimed she left the BBC because she “turned 50” and it was “not allowed”.
The 70-year-old TV star had been interviewing a host of big names such as Donald Trump, Pamela Anderson and Goldie Hawn for her BBC Two show ‘Ruby Wax Meets…’ when her show was shelved in 1998, and Louis Theroux later landed an interview series on the channel.
And she has now alleged that bosses at the broadcaster offered her a game show instead, but she rejected the opportunity.
When asked by Kate Garraway on ‘Life Stories’ – which is set to air on Wednesday night (09.08.23) on ITV1 – why her TV shows “dried up”, Ruby told the host: “I turned 50 and that’s not allowed. It’s an age thing of course and it was a man who took my job – and it’s not Louis Theroux, he’s a really nice man.
“Whoever, I will not mention names, said, ‘We want you to do a game show.’
“I said, ‘I can be a really good interviewer,’ and they said ‘uh uh’, so I left town. But that’s OK because I wouldn’t have got an OBE or gone to Oxford so I thank them all.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Ruby explained to the ‘Good Morning Britain’ host that her parents could be “violent” with one another, and claimed that she would often end up in the middle of it all.
She says: “They took the war from Europe and brought it to the kitchen.
“They slung these verbal grenades at each other and I was in the middle, especially because I was born into the land of the free and the brave and I could have a really great life, and they were nipped in the bud at 22, so they wanted to make it hard (for me).
“They were pretty violent with each other (and me), you’d have the s*** knocked out of you.”
‘Kate Garraway’s Life Stories’ airs on ITV1 on Wednesday night at 9pm.

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz is “not giving up” on her search for love.
The 61-year-old TV star endured a public breakup earlier this year when she discovered that her fiance Ben Ofoedu had been unfaithful several times throughout their 16-year relationship, but she is determined to keep going in all aspects of her life.
Asked if she ever felt tempted to give up on love, she told Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “Oh my God, no. I wish to move on. I’m not saying whether I have or haven’t, but I definitely want to. I’m not tempted to give up anything while I’m alive – not work, love, fun, excitement, adventure or affection.”
The broadcast legend – who appeared on ‘Celebs Go Dating’ in June – was then asked to describe her “ideal man” and explained that she would have to find him physically attractive, but would love him to be “dynamic”.
She said: “Obviously [I want] someone honest and trustworthy! I’d have to find him attractive, so there’d have to be something to him – he’d have to have a bit of swagger and dynamism. I’d like him to be kind and entertaining, interested in things, and full. Whether I’m going to meet someone like that, God only knows, but that’s what I want.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant also admitted she was left “astounded” by the masses of public support that came her way following her split, and spent “hours” reading every message she received on social media.
She said: “I was unbelievably moved and astounded by [the support], and still am. People have been incredibly kind and I’ve read every message. I had months of sleepless nights – I felt terrible so I read message after message after message for hours on end. It meant the world to me.”

However, Amy later admitted she was feeling better, writing: “Got my tea which makes me feel better. Just feeling very emotional today mixed with nerves and fear but like my lovely nurse has said I just need to think of the end goal.

Gavin and Stacey cast reveal unbelievable filming secret

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Gavin and Stacey’ cast never visited Essex for filming.
The hit BBC show was set across the Barry in South Wales and Billericay in the county of Essex, but Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb – who played Gavin’s parents Pam and Mick – have revealed they never actually visited their characters’ hometown.
Larry told the Radio Times magazine: “‘Gavin and Stacey’ was all filmed in Wales, nobody offered us the opportunity to go to Essex.
“They said, ‘Billericay’s where you’re from’, so we just got on with it, we just do what we’re told.”
The pair visited the town for the first time while filming upcoming show ‘Alison and Larry: Billericay to Barry’ for Gold and planted a tree in honour of their trip.
He said: “When we got there on this trip we received a lovely welcome. The town councillors turned out and the mayor was there.”
Alison added: “We planted a tree! It survives, hopefully.”
The three part travel show will see them on a 200 mile drive between the two towns, with plenty of stops along the way.
Larry reflected: “It felt like unfinished business, particularly going to Billericay.
“In ‘Gavin and Stacey’, Barry got lots of attention, and Billericay was the poor relation. Both have become such famous places.
“I thought it was a great idea, and I couldn’t think of anybody other than Alison I’d like to do the trip with… well, probably one or two!”
‘Gavin and Stacey’ – which was written by co-stars James Corden and Ruth Jones – originally ran for three series between 2007 and 2010, before the cast reunited for a one off Christmas special in 2019.
Last month, Joanna Page – who played Stacey opposite Mathew Horne’s Gavin – revealed she would be part of the upcoming travel show.
She told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Alison and Larry have just done a show where they’re going from ‘Barry to Billericay’ and I’ve done the voiceover and I found it really difficult to voice because I was watching them and I kept missing my cue.
“And I was going ‘Look at them, they’re like my mum and dad!’ I couldn’t take it seriously because I was smiling and laughing.”

Christopher Nolan movie nearly cost him two decade Warner Bros partnership

OHMYGOSSIP — Warner Bros. almost refused to hire Christopher Nolan because of ‘Memento’.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ filmmaker had a long and illustrious partnership with the studio – which started with 2002’s ‘Insomnia’ and ended with ‘Tenet’ in 2020 – but producer Steven Soderbergh has revealed Nolan’s agent Dan Aloni told him bosses were put off by his 2000 time loop classic.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “Cut to months later, Dan calls me and he goes, ‘Look, there’s this script over at Warner, Insomnia. Chris is really interested in it, but Warner won’t take the meeting’.
“And I go, ‘What do you mean they won’t take the meeting?’ And he goes, ‘Well, the executive there didn’t like Memento.’
“And I said, ‘Well, so what? Why won’t they take the meeting?’ So, I called that executive and I said, ‘Take the meeting. You’ve got to take the meeting.’ And he goes, ‘But I didn’t like the movie.’
“And I go, ‘Well, did you like the movie-making?’ And he goes, ‘Well, yeah, it’s brilliantly made.’ And I go, ‘Take the meeting.’ ”
The partnership between Noal and studio lasted for 19 years, but they split after he criticised Warner’s move to exclusively stream their 2021 films on HBO Max during the pandemic.
In a statement at the end of 2020, he said: “Some of our industry’s biggest filmmakers and most important movie stars went to bed the night before thinking they were working for the greatest movie studio and woke up to find out they were working for the worst streaming service.
“Warner Bros. had an incredible machine for getting a filmmaker’s work out everywhere, both in theaters and in the home, and they are dismantling it as we speak.
“They don’t even understand what they’re losing. Their decision makes no economic sense, and even the most casual Wall Street investor can see the difference between disruption and dysfunction.”

EastEnders star Shona McGarty ‘in talks for Dancing On Ice’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star Shona McGarty is reportedly in talks to join ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The actress is walking away from the role of Whitney Dean after 15 years in the hit BBC One soap and a new report suggests she’s lining up her first projects away from Albert Square – and she’s said to be in the running for a place on the ITV skating show when it returns in early 2024.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “She is a huge talent and a very well-known name – and to walk off ‘EastEnders’ and straight onto their rival channel’s biggest show would be a huge coup.
“Shona is in the running for a stint on the ice when the show begins in January but it’s all early dates. A number of stars who are being courted for the next series are already practising on their local rinks to make sure they have the basics down.”
The insider added ITV bosses would be delighted to sign her up for the show, which returns to TV in January.
Shona previously confirmed her plan to leave ‘EastEnders’ after more than a decade playing Whitney. She told The Sun On Sunday newspaper: “I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving ‘EastEnders’. I have loved my years in the show.
“I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships – and family – which will endure.”
Shona will reportedly remain with the soap until next year when she will film her final scenes. BBC bosses are said to be deciding on an exit storyline for her character to leave the show.

AJ Pritchard quits acting after widely-slammed Hollyoaks stint

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Pritchard has quit acting after just one role.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional and his brother Curtis Pritchard were widely criticised for their nine-episode run as dancer brothers Marco and Jacob in ‘Hollyoaks’ in 2021, and while the 28-year-old star “enjoyed” the experience, he isn’t keen to repeat it in the future.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “‘Hollyoaks’ were so happy with everything. That’s all that matters.
“I enjoyed it but I feel like acting isn’t my forte.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant has plenty of other work opportunities keeping him busy.
He said: “At the moment I want to focus on being fit, healthy and positive.
“I’m working a bit more on YouTube, which is fun. It goes hand in hand with TV work.
“And I’m launching some new business later this year.”
AJ and Curtis’ casting on ‘Hollyoaks’ was widely criticised by various soap actors, who insisted people should be cast on talent, not social media followers.
Parry Glasspool, who played Harry Thompson on the soap from 2013 to 2019, wrote on his Instagram Stories at the time: “As if budding actors didn’t struggle enough, now they have to compete with folks with zero interest in acting, but have s*** tone of followers.
“No offence for those who can hustle, but sucks for those trying to catch a break.”
In addition, former ‘EastEnders’ actor Michael Greco slammed AJ and Curtis’ “shocking” acting on ‘Hollyoaks’, and he claimed people could learn “how not to act” from watching a video of the brothers on the Channel 4 soap.
The clip was shared by former ‘Oaks’ star Gerard McCarthy, and Michael wrote: “I think people can watch this and learn so much from it. How “not” to act. Shocking (sic)”
Gerard – who played Kris Fisher in the Channel 4 soap from 2006 to 2010 – also hit out at the AJ and Curtis scene, describing it as a “car crash”.
He tweeted: “The next time a producer/casting director says the words “but they have a big social media following”…. Just point them in the direction of this absolute car crash!
“It’s a simple idea: stop giving actors’ jobs to models / reality tv contestants / pop stars from 1995 / Crufts winners / anybody else who is not an actor.
“THEY WILL BE S****! (sic)”

Christopher Nolan says movie mumbling is ‘artistic choice’

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan says the use of muffled dialogue in his movies is an “artistic choice”.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ director has revealed he refuses to bring actors back to rerecord lines that sound unclear even though it’s a widely used technique in Hollywood to make sure every word is heard properly – because Nolan is adamant he would rather use the initial performance they gave on camera.
According to Insider, he said: “I like to use the performance that was given in the moment rather than the actor revoice it later,. Which is an artistic choice that some people disagree with, and that’s their right.”
Nolan also admitted some of the camera he uses on set can cause interference with dialogue because they are quite noisy – especially the Imax cameras he used to film ‘Oppenheimer’ – but he’s hoping advances in technology will soon eliminate the issue.
He added: “There are certain mechanical improvements. And actually, Imax is building new cameras right now which are going to be even quieter. But the real breakthrough is in software technology that allows you to filter out the camera noise.
“That has improved massively in the 15 or so years that I’ve been using these cameras. Which opens up for you to do more intimate scenes that you would not have been able to do in the past.”
‘Oppenheimer’ stars Cillian Murphy in the title role as the scientist who created the atomic bomb and it’s on track to become one of the director’s most successful films with takings of more than $552 million worldwide after three weeks on the big screen.

‘There was a lot of good stuff’: Louis Leterrier shares axed vision for Incredible Hulk

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Leterrier had planned a lot of “good stuff” for ‘The Incredible Hulk’.
The 50-year-old filmmaker had directed Edward Norton in the lead role of the 2008 blockbuster and was hoping to make a sequel until Marvel bosses changed direction, with Mark Ruffalo making his debut as Bruce Banner and his green alter ego in 2012’s ‘The Avengers’, and now the helmsman has opened up about the light side of the series he wanted to show.
He told ComicBook: “Yeah there was like a whole sequel.
“There was like Grey Hulk, Red Hulks – there was a lot of good stuff that we were planning.
“Hulk is a complex character within the Marvel Universe. You want the primeval Hulk… the rage Hulk. And then when you go Grey Hulk and Smart Hulk you lose that a little bit and you get a little bit more kiddish with it.”
Louis admitted Mark’s version of Hulk – who he has played in numerous MCU films including ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Captain Marvel’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, as well as an appearance in TV series ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ – is “far from” the character he envisioned him ultimately turning out to be.
He said: “That was the fun of where I was in my movie, with the access to consciousness and all that stuff. That was really fun.
“And that’s what I was aiming to do. But take my time with it. Because there’s so many characters they want it all fast.
“I like ‘She-Hulk’, but then you know, yoga between Hulk and… I was like ‘Okay! yeah, we’re very far from my Hulk.’ ”
It has recently been speculated that ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will feature Harrison Ford as Red Hulk and Liv Tyler potentially playing Red She-Hulk, though there has been no mention of Grey Hulk.

‘ I don’t take it for granted!’ Shaun Wallace worries about getting the sack from The Chase

OHMYGOSSIP — Shaun Wallace doesn’t take ‘The Chase’ for granted.
The 64-year-old star has served as a quizzer on the hit ITV teatime gameshow alongside the likes of Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, and Mark Labbett since 2009 but admitted that he is always “hoping” that his contract is renewed as he is aware that he is “only as good as” his last correct answer.
He is quoted by the Daily Star’s HotTV Column as saying: “Hopefully, once my contract ends, they will renew it. I don’t take that for granted. I am only as good as the last question I’ve answered correctly!”
Away from ‘The Chase’, Shaun has held a career as a barrister for more than 30 years and recently explained that while other Chasers have taken on deals to star in pantomime or compete on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’, he is “limited” to what he can do because of his profession.
He said: “I do get the offers but I’m not a reality type of guy. I still practise as a barrister and there is a limit to what I will do.
“The last reality-type challenge I did was ‘Don’t Rock The Boat’, and that was a physical challenge where myself and seven other celebs rowed the length of Britain.
“I’ll do something like that but any other type of reality show is not really for me. If ‘Celebrity SAS’ asked me five years ago I probably would have done it but not with my knees now. Yes, people recognise who I am – I can’t help that fact – but I can’t use my fame to get a required result. I can’t change the evidence.
“I’ve been a barrister for 38 years, a Chaser for 13 years.

In the joint interview, Sammy – who worked as a project manager in Kent before finding fame on TV – revealed that he and Jess do intend to tie the knot as they both admitted to being in it for the long haul.
He said: “I never ask someone to be my girlfriend if I didn’t see myself marrying them!”
Jess added: “I agree. There’s no point thinking you’re going to be with someone for a short time.”
Away from their relationship, Jess also explained that she wants to carry on building her beauty company Candy Aesthetics whilst also taking on various brand deals as a result of her success on the show but is also eyeing up the chance to compete in ‘Dancing on Ice’ next year.
She said: “I want to expand the business. It’s mine, so I’d be silly not to. I’ll definitely open a few more clinics, get a few more girls involved and have that as a passive income and do my own thing. Probably brand work too – maybe ‘Dancing On Ice’, if Sammy doesn’t get there first. I can’t skate, but I’m up for it.”

‘I’m terrified!’ Angela Scanlon announced as latest celeb for Strictly Come Dancing!

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Scanlon is the fifth celebrity to join the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ lineup.
The 39-year-old presenter is best known for her work on ‘The One Show’ but will be swapping the teatime news programme for the dancefloor as she takes on the BBC Latin and ballroom competition when it returns to screens in September as she admitted that she is “terrified” but “secretly thrilled” to be joining the show.
In a statement, she said: “I’m terrified, I’m excited and I have so many questions. Will they make me tan? How itchy are sequins?! Do they do flesh-coloured sports bras? Well – there’s only one way to find out, right!? Now I’m panicking a bit… but also secretly thrilled about the prospect of all that glitter. Let’s go!”
Angela joins ‘Sherlock’ actress Amanda Abbington, broadcaster Angela Rippon, West End star Layton Williams and Channel 4 newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy in the line-up for the new series.
Eddie – who has performed in front of big crowds all over the world – said: “Wow. Anyone who knows me, understands that music and dance is so important and central to who I am. I’m so unbelievably proud and honoured that ‘Strictly’ and the BBC have asked me to join the 2023 team.”
The comedian is now determined to make the most of his ‘Strictly’ opportunity.
He said: “I promise you, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. This is going to be a vibe.”
Krishnan, 53, recently admitted to being “surprised, delighted and slightly confused” about being asked to compete on the BBC dance show.”
I’m surprised, delighted and slightly confused to find myself taking part in ‘Strictly’ on the basis of ‘you only live once!’ and I can’t wait to start learning to dance, but I am slightly worried about my general decrepitude.
“I know I’m going to love it and have a brilliant time and just hope I’m not the only one enjoying my participation.”
Prior to that, Angela admitted that she was looking forward to competing on ‘Strictly’.
The 78-year-old newsreader said: “Having been a fan of ‘Strictly’ since day one, and as a former presenter of ‘Come Dancing’, this will be quite an adventure for me. A scary one, considering I’m about to be 79. But I’m really looking forward to the challenge, and perhaps being able to learn to dance the Argentinian Tango!”
