The legendary broadcaster – who was best known for interviewing celebrities on his ‘Parkinson’ talk show – passed away “peacefully” on Wednesday evening (16.08.23) aged 88 following a “brief illness”, and Tim has remembered Michael as “one of a kind”.
He said in a statement: “Michael was the king of the chat show and he defined the format for all the presenters and shows that followed.
“He interviewed the biggest stars of the 20th century and did so in a way that enthralled the public. Michael was not only brilliant at asking questions, he was also a wonderful listener.
“Michael was truly one of a kind, an incredible broadcaster and journalist who will be hugely missed.”
Several other stars have also paid tribute to the TV presenter, who was affectionately known as “Parky”, including Stephen Fry, who said it was “impossibly thrilling” being interviewed by the TV great.
He wrote on Threads: “Loved that man. Having grown up watching him interview greats, my first appearance was impossibly thrilling for me. The genius of Parky was that unlike most people (and most of his guests, me included) he was always 100% himself. On camera and off. “Authentic” is the word I suppose. For one of the shows I was on with Robin Williams, a genius of unimaginable comic speed and brilliance. Now they’re both gone, damn it #parky (sic)”
Singing icon Elaine Paige wrote on X: “Such very sad breaking news that Sir Michael Parkinson has died. Have known him for many years, sang on his TV chat show attended many events with him. A legendary interviewer that will be remembered as the best of his profession. We will never see his like again. RIP Michael.”
‘Apprentice’ star Lord Sugar posted: “Very sad news on the passing of Michael Parkinson . End of a era RIP.
A post on BAFTA’s official X account read: “We’re saddened to hear that presenter and chat show host Sir Michael Parkinson has died age 88. Parkinson’s TV career spanned seven-decades and saw him interview the world’s biggest stars on his long-running chat show Parkinson, for which he won a BAFTA in 1999.”
Earlier on Thursday (17.08.23), Michael’s family confirmed he had died.
They said in a statement: “After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family.
“The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve.”
Over his seven-decade-long career, Michael interviewed the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sir Elton John, Madonna Dame Helen Mirren, and Sir Billy Connolly.
In 2013, he underwent radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer, but he received the all-clear from doctors two years later.
Michael – who was knighted in 2008, and made a CBE in 2000 – estimated he interviewed more than 2,000 guests throughout his career, and previously said his chat with legendary boxer Ali was his favourite.

BBC reveals first picture of Steve Coogan as Jimmy Savile in drama The Reckoning

OHMYGOSSIP — Siobhan Finneran and Gemma Jones have joined the cast of Jimmy Savile factual drama ‘The Reckoning’.
Steve Coogan had previously been announced as portraying Savile, the disgraced, late entertainer – who was exposed as a paedophile after his death – and now it has been confirmed that the ‘Happy Valley’ and ‘Gentleman Jack’ stars will join him in the cast, alongside Outlander’s Mark Lewis Jones and ‘White House Farm’ actor Mark Stanley.
The four-part drama series has been created by writer Neil McKay and executive producer Jeff Pope, and it will be broadcast this autumn on BBC One and iPlayer.
It will trace the life of Savile, who became one of the UK’s most influential celebrities for decades, but after his death he has become one of the most reviled figures of modern history following revelations of extensive and horrific abuse.
The BBC said: “The team have worked closely with many people whose lives were impacted by Savile to ensure their experiences are told and reflected with sensitivity and respect, and the drama will also draw on extensive, wide-ranging research and published accounts.
“It will examine the impact his appalling crimes had on his victims, and the powerlessness many felt when they tried to raise the alarm.
“Four survivors of Savile who have contributed to ‘The Reckoning’ will also feature in the series, interviewed on camera to offer their further insight and to reflect on their experiences in the hope that the telling of their stories will prevent something like it happening again.”
On Thursday (17.08.23), the BBC also released the first official picture of 57-year-old Steve as Savile.
The BBC first announced they had commissioned the drama in October 2020.
Jeff said in a statement at the time: “I think this is a story that has to be told.
“We must understand why a man like Jimmy Savile seemed to remain immune for so long to proper scrutiny and criminal investigation.”

Faye Winter went ‘too far’ with her lip injections

OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Winter has admitted she once went “too far” with lip injections.
The ex ‘Love Island’ star thinks she has “ruined” her visage with all the filler she has pumped into her pout, and is “so embarrassed” by the final outcome.
The 28-year-old influencer said on Instagram: “My lips have been a talking point for the last two years and I’m campaigning for only medical professionals to be able to carry out any type of procedure on our faces and inject them with any kind of substance.
“Lets take a look at my journey and go through it in my own words. First up we have these lips and they are so lumpy and instead of just having them done by a professional I had to keep having them topped up and they kept getting pumped up real slowly to this is at their biggest.
“At this point I new I had gone too far so I chose to get them dissolved. This is after being dissolved and they were very wrinkly. There wasn’t an awful lot I could do with them because I had over filled them and overstretched the skin so much.”
Faye – who was in a relationship with Teddy Soares, 28, for a year and half after meeting him on the ITV2 dating show in 2021 – detailed how she sought to get help to get the look she “wanted”.
She said: “Then I went back to a medically trained professional who put in 0.5ml and this is the result I got and the result I had always wanted.
“I honestly love them so much. I will now only maintain this size and I think they frame my face perfectly.
“So go to a medically trained professional who knows how to get the shape that you want.”
Faye captioned the video with further reflection on her “journey” and told of her intention to help others.
She wrote: “The journey I have been on with my lips is one that many judge, many have opinions on and many should know more about.
“In a time where we can get everything for less when do we take a step back and realise everything has its cost.
“I ruined my face through over filling and not getting the correct advice. I will talk about my journey because I hope one person will learn from my mistakes.
“Yes I look back at these photos full of embarrassment and regret, I look back on a girl that had such hateful comments but now I can take them and do some good with them and that’s all I could really wish for @lookfantastic. (sic)”

Lottie Moss wants to open an OnlyFans agency

OHMYGOSSIP — Lottie Moss wants to open an OnlyFans agency.
The ‘Celebs Go Dating’ star – who is the sister of supermodel Kate, 49 – is keen to teach others the tips she has picked up from her time working across the industry.
The 25-year-old model told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “I’m starting an agency for OnlyFans creators.
“As an agency we will manage their accounts.
“We help them figure out what to post and things like that. And I’ll make sure they get the money they deserve.
Lottie is keen to ensure her clients are “looked after” and wants to prioritse welfare.
She said: “I want to make sure the girls are looked after. I’ll make sure they are only doing things they’re comfortable with and they aren’t forced to do anything they don’t consent to.”
The TikTok star thinks she has “the right amount of knowledge” to be the perfect person to carry out such a venture.
Lottie said: “I’ve done so much in this industry so I have the right amount of knowledge and expertise to help girls with online stuff.”
The star recently insisted she joined OnlyFans because she finds it “more comfortable” than traditional modelling.
Speaking on the ‘Headstrong’ podcast, she said: “In my mind and internally I’ve been tackling feeling not good enough, not pretty enough, not a model — but that I should be doing better than OnlyFans. I felt like I could never do anything right. When I was doing modelling I had tons of comments from people saying, ‘You don’t deserve this — you’re never going to be Kate. Give up’. And I started to believe it. People have comments like saying I can only do OnlyFans now and I’m like, ‘No, I chose to do that, I quit’. The modelling world is creepy, 30-year-old men taking pictures of 16-year-olds. OnlyFans is my friends taking pics of me and I feel comfortable.”

Twister ‘cannot be remade’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Twister’ director Jan de Bont is adamant the disaster movie “cannot be remade”.
De Bont helmed the 1996 original starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt about a storm chasers caught up in a tornado which wreaks havoc across Oklahoma and the film is being revived for a sequel called ‘Twisters’ which is reportedly set after the events of the original but the moviemaker is adamant the use of CGI will make it a very different film.
He told Inverse.com: “When things fell from the sky, there were real things falling from a helicopter. If you film a car escaping a tornado in a hail storm, it was real ice that came at us. It’s a movie that cannot be remade … That would never, ever happen again.”
De Bont added: “Every shot was a fortune. It would take three days to transfer all that information onto film. Right now it’s fast, but in the beginning, it was super slow. And we had to be so careful to get the shots done before the movie opened.”
‘Twisters’ is being directed by ‘Minari’ moviemaker Lee Isaac Chung and de Bont hopes he will bring a new spin to the tornado tale, although he’s adamant he won’t be rushing to the cinema to see it when it’s released.
He added to the publication: “I want to have somebody else see it first … It might be a really different approach. That’s the same with [Greta Gerwig] of ‘Barbie’. Nobody would ever have thought she’d direct that movie and make it so successful.”
‘Twisters’ stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell and Maura Tierney is due for release next summer. Reports suggest it will focus on the daughter of Paxton and Hunt’s characters. Hunt had previously been co-writing a sequel but that version was rejected by the studio and is unlikely to make a cameo in ‘Twisters’. Paxton died in 2017 at the age of 61.

Michael Cera emailed Greta Gerwig to arrange Barbie cameo after his manager nearly ‘blew it’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Cera personally emailed Greta Gerwig to arrange a cameo in the ‘Barbie’ movie – after his manager nearly “blew it” for him.
The 35-year-old actor has told how his manager initially said he “probably wouldn’t want to” appear in the Gerwig-directed film because he didn’t think the star would be keen on going to London to shoot the motion picture.
In a video interview with GQ magazine, Cera said: “It was a kind of very last-minute casting.
“My manager got a call checking on my availability for it, and he called me and he said, ‘I got a call about this movie. It’s the ‘Barbie’ movie.
“Greta Gerwig’s directing it, and it’s filming in London for four months of something, so I told them you probably wouldn’t want to do it because you probably don’t want to go to London.’
“I was like, ‘What! Call them back!’ He didn’t like blow it or anything, but he’s like, ‘I managed their expectations that you might not want to do it.’ I was like, ‘How can I not do it? I need to do it!’ ”
But Cera then took matters into his own hands and personally dropped Gerwig an email to arrange a cameo in the film, which featured Margot Robbie in the titular role.
He added: “I somehow got Greta’s email address, I think through a common friend of ours, and I emailed her like, ‘Can I be in it? Can I do that part?’
“And she was like, ‘Let’s get on a Zoom right now. Here’s a Zoom link, I’ll be on there for the next hour.’
“So she was just hanging out on the Zoom, like, ‘Click the link whenever you’re ready.’
“And then we talked about it, and it just all happened really fast from there.”

Greg Rutherford shocked by ‘difficult’ Strictly training

OHMYGOSSIP — Greg Rutherford was shocked by how difficult ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ was.
The former Olympian was used to gruelling training schedules while he was competing in long jump events but he has admitted he had no idea just how tough it would be when he was rehearsing for his stint on the BBC TV talent show back in 2016.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I remember when I went through the process of discussing it, it was said to me: ‘Oh you’ll only do a couple of hours a day, it won’t be too bad’. But I ended up doing about 10 to 12 hours every single day. And I was still rubbish at it, so it shows how difficult the show is!”
Greg – who was eliminated in week nine along with his dance partner Natalie Lowe – also issues a stark warning to the current crop of contestants, saying: “[They] have no idea what they’ve let themselves in for.”
He added of his stint on the show: “I had no aspirations of trying to win the thing because I knew I wouldn’t be good enough … You realise that there’s some people who are naturally very good at it, and I wasn’t naturally very good at all. I just worked hard.”
However, he has no regrets about taking part, saying: “It is a lot of hard work, but it’s also incredible.”
This year’s line-up includes TV veteran Les Dennis, former ‘EastEnders’ star Nigel Harman, ‘Sherlock’ actress Amanda Abbington and newsreader Angela Rippon – who is the show’s most senior contestant at the age of 78.
However, Angela is no stranger to the dance floor – she’s the former host of the previous incarnation of the show called ‘Come Dancing’, while she also appeared in a ‘Strictly’ charity special and made a cameo on the show last year.
The new series of ‘Strictly’ returns in the autumn.

Michael Parkinson told best pal Dickie Bird he was ‘getting towards the end’ hours before he passed

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Parkinson told his best friend Dickie Bird he was “getting towards the end”, just hours before he passed away aged 88.
Retired cricket umpire Dickie spoke to the legendary TV broadcaster on Wednesday (16.08.23), and Michael died “peacefully” following a “brief illness” later that evening.
Dickie had been friends with Michael for a staggering 84 years, and the star admitted he “could tell” his good pal was “ill” when they said their goodbyes to one another.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (17.08.23), Dickie said: “We knew each other for 80 years.
“I think we worked it out, me and Parky, and it was 84 years that we were friends and when I turned 90 he came all the way just to see me on my 90th birthday and he wasn’t well, but he came and that’s a true friend.
“He was a very close friend. Our friendship, I can’t even tell you.
“I only spoke to him yesterday morning and he said ‘Mate, I think I’m getting towards the end,’ and I said ‘Keep your chin up, keep going,’ but I could tell that he was ill and we said our goodbyes yesterday morning.”
Dickie feels “so down” following Michael’s passing, and described him as a “true legend”.
He added: “It’s stunned me. I’m so down, I’m gutted because we’ve known each other for so long and you talk about Muhammad Ali and Garfield Sobers, but Michael Parkinson was a true legend.”
Dickie also admitted he could tell Michael wasn’t well on Wednesday because of his “weak voice”.
He told Sky News: “I know he hasn’t been well, he hasn’t been well at all, and his voice yesterday – it didn’t sound as if it was strong. It was a weak voice.
“I knew then there was something wrong with him.”
Michael’s family confirmed on Thursday that he had passed away the previous evening.
They said in a statement: “After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family.
“The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve.”

‘It’s a necessary thing’: Angel Manuel Soto praises ‘heroic’ striking Blue Beetle cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Angel Manuel Soto praised the “heroic” cast of ‘Blue Beetle’ for not promoting the superhero movie due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The 40-year-old director was not joined by the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie’s stars – including Xolo Mariduena, Susan Sarandon and George Lopez –at the premiere earlier this week but completely understands why they have taken action.
Angel told The Hollywood Reporter: “It is heartbreaking. I wanted them to have their moment. This is their moment.
“But at the same time, it’s a necessary thing. So, having them actually sacrifice this opportunity to be on the picket line and to fight for a better future – not only for them, but also to secure something better for future generations to come – is a heroic act of its own.”
Angel had to fight to get the first mainstream Latino-led live-action superhero movie released in cinemas after Warner Bros. had initially designated the project for release on the streaming service HBO Max.
The filmmaker explained: “We wanted to see our history and our legacy on the big screen, in a way that is respectful, and that was an opportunity that we didn’t want to miss.
“So it was something that we were very committed to, and we wouldn’t take no for an answer. And eventually, Warner Bros. saw it fit, and they allowed us to go back into the theatres.”
Angel feared that the changes at DC that saw James Gunn and Peter Safran take control of the company could put ‘Blue Beetle’ at risk but is relieved that the bosses have faith in the characters.
He said: “Yeah, that was for sure one of the elements of relief. It’s the fact that all of this effort was not going to die during this regime change.
“There’s also a belief in our characters, who are now going to be part of this new DC universe, especially Xolo’s character and his whole family and Bruna Marquezine’s character.
“So, knowing that they are going to continue to move forward in the DCU allowed me to feel relief for myself and for them.”

Jimmy Tarbuck recalls visiting Michael Parkinson just days before his death

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Tarbuck met Sir Michael Parkinson for lunch just days before he died, and they had planned to meet again this week.
The legendary broadcaster passed away on Wednesday (16.08.23) at the age of 88, and now comedian Jimmy, 83, has explained he had visited his friend just days before his passing, but he left because the star was “getting a bit tired”, and the two had made plans to have lunch together again soon.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “He was a giant, a giant of our industry. And he was a giant in as much as it was a great journalist, a giant, a great friend, a giant of a friend. And the talk shows. None of them have come near him since it was just delightful, delightful company.
“And a very modest, man. You didn’t seem going anywhere and go ‘Oh, I’m Michael Parkinson!’ And he’d walk in well dressed. And good fun. I mean, grateful.
“And last week at the house with young Michael, his son and I said, ‘Oh, I’ll go now, you’re getting a bit tired’, he said ‘OK. Thanks for coming. Do you want lunch next week?’ I said ‘You arrange it, and I’ll be there.’
“And unfortunately I won’t.”
The former ‘ Sunday Night at the London Palladium’ host – who made a name for himself fronting game shows and quiz shows in the 1960s – was on the very last episode of the initial run of ‘Parkinson’ in 1982.
Jimmy described his close friend as “the best” as he remembered how the late TV star had given so many others a chance to succeed in showbusiness.
He added: “Tina Turner sang it. He was ‘Simply the Best’. By far the best. from here to Lodge Lane. That’s a place in Liverpool. He was the best. I mean, he listened. And he could be serious. And he had serious people on the shows that great doctor who spoke about the war, the two violinists who played, they had had me in there, and it was just compelling viewing.”

Anton said: “Myself, Katya and Graziano understand the power of dance and how it brings people together. This could really transform not just the building but the community too.
“What Alisar-Jane and her team is doing is very special. Myself, Katya and Graziano understand the power of dance and how it brings people together. Piers Morgan: Michael Parkinson was the greatest TV interviewer of all time

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan has praised Sir Michael Parkinson as the “greatest TV interviewer of all time”.
The former ‘Life Stories’ presenter has remembered the broadcasting legend, who passed away on Wednesday (16.08.23) aged 88 after a “brief illness”, as a “wonderful character”, and he has described him as the “Muhammad Ali of chat show hosts”.
In a piece for The Sun newspaper, Piers wrote: “I’ll remember Parky as a wonderful character; a charming, no-nonsense, opinionated, occasionally combative, fiercely intelligent, tremendously loyal, and enduringly curious man.
“For me, he was the TV interviewer G.O.A.T.
“The Greatest Of All Time.
“The Muhammad Ali of chat show hosts.
“I’ll miss our lunches, and our days at the cricket, and our email exchanges.
“I’ll particularly miss his frequent ‘don’t let the b****** get you down’ messages of support whenever I hit a rocky road.
“To know I had Parky in my corner was always a rare privilege, and I know there are many other people who can say the same.
“If you were his mate, he was all-in, and I loved him for that.”
Piers admitted Michael was one of the main reasons he got into journalism, because he made the profession seem “such good fun”.
He added: “He was a vivid, evocative, and extremely humorous observational writer, especially when waxing lyrical about stuff he loved.
“He also made the profession of journalism seem such bloody good fun!
“When I became a newspaper editor myself in the mid-90s, I tried to hire him, but he was – entirely justifiably – too expensive.”
Some huge names have paid tribute to Michael following his death, including his namesake actor Sir Michael Caine.
He wrote on X: “Michael Parkinson was irreplaceable, he was charming, always wanted to have a good laugh. He brought the best of everyone he met.
Always looked forward to be interviewed by him.”
Former England football captain David Beckham admitted he feels “lucky” to have appeared on Michael’s chat show ‘Parkinson’, and to spend “precious time” with him talking about their two “passions” – football and family.
He wrote: “We say goodbye to the best… Waking up to the sad news of Michael Parkinson passing , I was so lucky to not just be interviewed by Michael but to be able to spend precious time talking about football and family our 2 passions [heart emoji]plus the GoldenBalls moment… Sending love to Mary and the whole family (sic)”

‘There’s a lot of material still to go’: Sir Kenneth Branagh could return as Poirot after A Haunting in Venice

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot franchise may continue after ‘A Haunting in Venice’.
The 62-year-old star will reprise his role as Agatha Christie’s sleuth for a third time in the upcoming movie and executive producer James Prichard is open to making more films as long as Branagh and writer Michael Green are still interested.
Speaking to Total Film magazine, Prichard said: “If Ken wants to do more, and Michael wants to write more, we’ll certainly do another. There’s a lot of material still to go, so we’re not going to run out of inspiration.”
‘A Haunting in Venice’ is based on Christie’s 1969 novel ‘Hallowe’en Party’ and Prichard felt it was important that this picture – which features Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey and Kyle Allen alongside Branagh – dipped into the supernatural instead of following the conventional murder-mystery plot.
The producer, who is Christie’s great-grandson, explained: “If we are going to continue to make these films, we can’t do the same thing over and over.
“A departure at this moment is possibly risky, but it also has the potential to keep it alive, bring in a different audience, and do something interesting that will hopefully surprise and delight.”
Kenneth previously expressed delight at getting the chance to play Poirot again after the previous film ‘Death on the Nile’ was marred by delays due to the coronavirus pandemic and sexual misconduct allegations surrounding star Armie Hammer.
The actor – who is also directing ‘ A Haunting in Venice’ – said: “(‘Death on the Nile’s’) theatrical release was challenged for various reasons, but it still did exceptional numbers in the circumstances. And then the streaming performance was really exceptional.
“So I was very pleased when they came back to us, for sure.”
Branagh continued: “I was particularly grateful to the single determining factor, really, which was the audience. The audience seems to want it, and they seem to be ready for another. So we were happy to try and do one.”

Rebecca Adlington says getting hospitalised for her miscarriage was ‘really scary’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebecca Adlington was “really scared” when she ended up in hospital after suffering a miscarriage.
The 34-year-old swimmer opened up about suffering a pregnancy loss at 12 weeks which led to her getting sepsis and kidney failure and praised her “angel” husband Andy Parsons – the father of her two-year-old son Albie – and the rest of her family who “rallied around” as she struggled to come to terms with things.
She told OK! Magazine: “It was really scary because I felt so ill. Andy was an angel and did absolutely everything. My parents looked after the kids and they all rallied around, but it took some time to come to terms with everything.”
The Olympic champion – who also has daughter, Summer, eight, with her ex-husband Harry Needs – admitted that having a problematic pregnancy “never” floated into her head as her two others were smooth sailing.
She said: “Because I’d had two children without any problems, a miscarriage never crossed my mind.
“I realise this might sound naïve, but I expected some signs. However, it was only once we had the 12-week scan that the poor lady had to say, ‘There isn’t a heartbeat’ – it was just sheer emotion from that point onwards.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ star admitted that she didn’t “want to deal” with the stress of having another baby and the ensuing “expectations” while juggling kids and her career along.
She said: “It’s not easy to get pregnant. I just don’t want to put loads of pressure on it or have any expectations. Especially when people start asking every single month, ‘Are you pregnant?’.
“I don’t want to deal with that while working full-time and having two kids. If it happens, it happens. If not, it’s not meant to be.”
The former ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ contestant professed to feeling “really responsible” for her miscarriage despite this very much not being the case.
Rebecca said: “I keep thinking about the pressure my body has been under to keep this little one, safe and sound and alive.
