Kaye Adams praises older casting on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams says ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ casting older celebrities is a “positive thing”.
The ‘Loose Women’ star, 60, was the oldest contestant on last year’s show but this year’s line-up includes Angela Rippon, who will turn 79 by the time the competition starts, and Les Dennis, 69.
Kaye told The Mirror: “I do think it’s a really positive thing and I’m glad that they’ve done it. Representation is a very important issue and I think sometimes people overlook age when they’re thinking about representation and inclusivity.
“I’m not trying to say it’s more important than disability, or people from different backgrounds, but I think it can easily get overlooked, so I’m delighted that they’re including all ages.
“The whole thing about ‘Strictly’ is that it’s the ultimate family show, so it’s important that it reflects the whole family. So, this year’s line-up is a really good thing.”
Kaye also revealed she felt huge pressure as the oldest contestant.
She said: “I felt a pressure last year because I was the oldest and I was a bit self-conscious of it. Whereas this year with the average age being higher than it’s been for a while, there will be no need for anyone to feel that way. But there’s a whole range of factors that go into how well you do. If you relish it and love the razzamatazz and performance then that’s a huge advantage.
“I can imagine that Angela Rippon will do well because she’s got fabulous dance experience, so I expect that she will be very good. It’s not that age means you are necessarily going to be worst. I was only the worst because I’m a c**p dancer!”

TV star Phil Spencer’s parents KILLED in horror car crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Spencer’s parents have died in a car crash.
The 53-year-old TV star – who is best known for presenting Channel 4’s ‘Location, Location, Location’ alongside Kirstie Allsopp – has been left in shock after his parents Richard, 89, and Anne, 82, could not be saved when their car careered off the road at the family farm where he grew up into a river on Friday (18.08.23) lunchtime.
At the time, Phil was with his siblings Robert, Caryn, and Helen.
Phil’s co-host Kirstie told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I’ve spoken to Phil and it’s tragic for the Spencer family, but his parents were together and that’s something that is a great source of solace to them all. The family is very loving and close. There are four children, Phil, Robert, Caryn and Helen, and they had eight grandchildren.”
“This is awful for all of the family, but they were together at the end and they were lovely people.
“They were on their way to the pub on a Friday afternoon in Kent, where they lived — they were in the place they loved, with the person they loved. They were both people of Christian faith.
“Phil and his siblings are all consoling each other at this difficult time.”
Another woman was in the car with the tragic couple as they headed out for lunch at a local pub but she has survived with minor injuries and three fire engines along with a water rescue unit spent two hours trying to winch the car from the water.
A Kent Police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended along with other emergency services and a man and woman in their 80s were taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.
“A third person, a woman in her 60s, was in the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
“The next of kin has been informed and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.”
It remains unclear who was driving at the time of the incident but the police are now looking for any witnesses who can help summarise an explanation of the incident.
Retired chief superintendent Simon Ovens, former head of the Met’s traffic and transport command, said: “The main role of the police now will be to ascertain how this incident happened.
“They will speak to any witnesses for an explanation of what occurred. They will also be looking if there was anything on the road at the time that might have made it happen, such as an animal or another vehicle.
“Investigators will also be looking at the vehicle itself to see whether there were any mechanical defects.
“Then they will be looking at the driver behind the wheel at the time to see whether the incident could have been caused by a medical episode or something like eyesight.”

Penelope Cruz: ‘I’ll always be a student in my profession’

OHMYGOSSIP — Penelope Cruz will always have “something new to learn” in her career.
The ‘L’Immensita’ actress turns 50 next year but insisted hitting the milestone isn’t making her look at acting differently because she is as passionate as ever about her work and she’s excited about the opportunities still to come her way.
Asked if turning 50 makes her feel different about life and work, she told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “No. I just love acting. That’s the reason why I became an actress and why I’m still acting now, I love exploring and learning.
“I know that there are some things I’ll be able to do in 20 years that I can’t do now, so there will always be something new to learn.
“I’ll always be a student in my profession. That takes away a lot of fears.”
The Spanish actress wanted to act from a young age and used to spend hours at a time “studying” the customers in her mother’s hair salon in order to get a grasp on a wide variety of scenarios, which she felt would be useful for the future.
She said: “I knew I wanted to act from when I was about five years old, so I’d pretend to be doing my homework in my mother’s salon but I was really studying all the women and listening to what they were saying – not out of a necessity to gossip, just through fascination and wanting to understand different realities and situations.”

Taika Waititi plans to introduce ‘formidable’ new villain in Thor 5

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi will introduce a new powerful enemy if he gets to make another ‘Thor’ film.
A fifth movie is not currently in development but the 48-year-old director has a plan for Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder to take on a foe more powerful than his sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) should he get behind the camera in the superhero franchise again.
Taika revealed in the ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ The Official Movie Special’ book: “What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome.
“I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable.”
As well as a new enemy, Taika plans to introduce “more and more outlandish and crazy beasts, monsters and aliens” that remain true to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hero’s mythological origins.
The filmmaker explained: “There’s a fun element to (Thor) and he has a casualness and a sort of swagger about him when he visits these worlds and encounters these aliens that I don’t think you’d get when it’s an earthling travelling through space exploring the universe.”
Although Taika is making plans for another ‘Thor’ movie, Hemsworth appeared less certain about his return when interviewed in June.
The 40-year-old star told Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on screen as that character.
“If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”

Snow White director David Hand’s son blasts ‘woke’ live-action remake

OHMYGOSSIP — The son of the original ‘Snow White’ director has slammed Disney’s “woke” live-action remake of the film.
David Hand, whose father of the same name worked with Walt Disney to create the beloved 1937 animated movie, has described the new project as “insulting” to the original picture and suggested that the duo would be “turning in their graves”.
Rachel Zegler stars in the title role in the new movie and sparked controversy by calling the original flick “extremely dated” while hinting at an overhaul of the plot but Hand feels that her views “misunderstand” the animated film.
The 91-year-old, who worked as a designer for Disney during the 1990s, told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it.
“I think it’s pathetic that people feel that way… these are art forms in the world of film today.”
‘Snow White’ is the latest live-action remake by Disney – following the likes of ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Lady and the Tramp’ – and Hand finds it “insulting” to see the way that the studio treats its classic work.
He said: “I’m afraid of what they’re going to do with the early films… their thoughts are just so radical now.
“They change the stories, they change the thought processes of the characters, they just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that.
“I find it quite frankly a bit insulting that they may have done with some of these classic films.
“There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”

Matthew Wolfenden quits Emmerdale after 17 years

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Wolfenden has quit ‘Emmerdale’ after 17 years.
The 43-year-old star has played shopkeeper David Metcalfe on the ITV soap since 2006 but is said to have become frustrated with the lack of gritty storylines for his character.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Matthew has had an amazing time on the soap, but feels ready for a change.
“He hasn’t been getting any gritty storylines recently so wants to see what else is out there. He’s a fan favourite so will get a lot of support in whatever he decides to do next.
“He’s very excited about the opportunities available.
“He’s only just announced he is leaving so scriptwriters are working out his on-screen exit. It’s possible David could be killed off.”
Matthew – who is married to his former ‘Emmerdale’ co-star Charley Webb – previously suggested that he would only leave the soap if he was no longer happy on the programme.
Asked why he had not been axed in 2021, he said: “Maybe they haven’t anyone else to run the shop.
“You just have to keep focused on work and never be late. And always be nice to the producer.
“I love coming into work, the moment I don’t is when I’d say, ‘Right it’s time to leave now’.”
The actor was memorably involved in the show’s rope bridge collapse storyline two years ago and was thankful for the support of co-star Isabel Hodgins because he is “terrified” of heights.
He said: “I’m not great with heights. When we had to do the bridge stuff, Isabel was just absolutely amazing.
“We were on wires so there was no way we could fall but when your 60ft above the water and you’re clinging onto a broken bridge, it’s absolutely terrifying.”

Gabby Logan ‘disappointed’ in Prince William’s Women’s World Cup final absence

OHMYGOSSIP — Gabby Logan is “disappointed” that Prince William will not be in attendance at the Women’s World Cup final.
The 50-year-old presenter will host the BBC’s coverage of the match between England and Spain today (20.08.23) and has questioned why the royal – who is president of the Football Association (FA) – and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have not made the trip to Sydney to cheer on the Lionesses.
Gabby told the BBC’s Newscast: “I have to say I’m disappointed that Prince William isn’t going with his role at the FA and the history is going to happen and be created, one way or the other.
“I just wonder would neither of those people come to a men’s World Cup final, would Britain not be represented by at least one of those two figures at a men’s World Cup and I can’t help but thinking that they would be there.
“I don’t know what prior engagements that can’t be moved or if there’s something that’s enormously important that is getting in the way of this, but it does feel like we should have somebody of national (importance).”
Queen Letizia of Spain is attending the final in Australia and William, 41, released a video on Saturday (19.08.23) apologising to the Lionesses for not going to the match.
He said: “Lionesses we want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow, we’re sorry we can’t be there in person but we’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved and the millions you’ve inspired here and around the world.
“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”
William’s daughter Princess Charlotte added: “Good luck Lionesses.”

‘I don’t like it’: Vanessa Feltz hates being single

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz is “not comfortable” being single.
The 61-year-old star will feature on the new series of E4 show ‘Celebs Go Dating’ after her split from Ben Ofoedu earlier this year and teased what viewers will see in her attempts to find a new romance.
Vanessa told the Mirror newspaper: “I think they’ll be surprised to see the vulnerability and I’m not someone who is comfortable with being single, I don’t like it. People who like it, that’s great but, I don’t like it.”
The TalkTV presenter explained how her daughters Allegra and Saskia had persuaded her to sign up for the programme and revealed that her family and friends have all been supportive of the move.
Vanessa said: “(They’ve been) very good about it. Both my daughters are big fans of the show. They said there’s no downside, definitely do it. My friends have all been really encouraging.”
The broadcaster recently revealed that it felt as if she was “wading through treacle” when a date did not go to plan and lamented that she is a “rotten picker” of men.
Vanessa explained on ‘This Morning’: “I think dating is damn difficult. I’ve not done it for 17 years. I wouldn’t sit here and pretend it’s a breeze and a blast. When it’s not going well it’s like wading through treacle. But when you meet someone it can be easy it can be bliss. It can be great. It’s just a numbers game isn’t it… I have been a rotten picker, I haven’t been good at picking. I thought the agents must be able to do better than I can, they can’t do any worse.”

‘He didn’t want to be pinned down’: Layton Williams will perform in a dress on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Layton Williams will become the first male ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant to dance in a dress.
The 28-year-old star is planning to break new ground on the hit BBC show and has asked to be partnered with a male professional when the programme launches next month.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Layton made it clear very early on that he didn’t want to be pinned down to just wearing male costumes.
“He wanted his Strictly outfits to reflect different sides of his personality and everyone fully supports him on that. So he will have a chance to wear Strictly dresses, as well as the men’s sharp suits, when he performs. There are some really exciting looks in there. Layton can’t wait to get started.”
The ‘Bad Education’ star feels that he can “go the distance” on the show after previous same-sex couples – including Nicola Adams and Katya Jones as well as Richie Anderson and Giovanni Pernice – were voted off in the early weeks.
An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “This year, everyone is hoping for a same-sex couple who can go the distance.
“Layton is a phenomenal performer and the pros will probably queue up to work with him.”
The West End star’s participation on ‘Strictly’ is said to have “ruffled a few feathers” as he is “professionally trained” in dance and was cast in the stage version of ‘Billy Elliot’ at the age of 12.
A source told the MailOnline: “He is professionally trained and has extensive experience with learning difficult choreography, which many of the contestants, especially those from a sporting or political background, will at first find impossible.
“The show has been criticised in the past for recruiting contestants with a background in dance and this year will be no different as Layton is a star in his own right and known for being an impeccable dancer on stage.”

Devastated Phil Spencer says it was ‘God’s plan’ for his parents to die together

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Spencer has said it was “God’s plan” for his parents to die together.
The ‘Location, Location, Location’ presenter, 53, is devastated after his dad Richard, 89, and mum Anne, 82, were killed in an accident on their farm in Kent on Saturday (19.08.23), and has shared a snap of the couple smiling together on the estate alongside a message revealing they were both seriously ill at the time of their passing.
His post also contained details of their crash, which he said ended with his farmer brother cutting them from their seatbelts with a penknife.
The TV host said in long Instagram message on Sunday (20.08.23): “Very sadly both of my amazing parents died on Friday.
“As a family we are all trying to hold onto the fact Mum and Dad went together and that neither will ever have to mourn the loss of the other one. Which is a blessing in itself.”
Opening up about his parents’ illnesses, Phil added: “Although they were both on extremely good form in the days before (hence the sudden idea to go out to lunch), Mum’s Parkinson’s and Dad’s Dementia had been worsening and the long-term future was set to be a challenge.
“So much so that Mum said to me only a week ago that she had resigned to thinking ‘now it looks like we will probably go together’.
“And so they did. That was what God had planned for them – and it was a good plan.”
Giving details of the pair’s crash, Phil told his followers: “The car, going very slowly, toppled over a bridge on the farm drive, upside down into the river. There were no physical injuries and I very much doubt they would have even fought it – they would have held hands under the water and quietly slipped away.
“Their carer was in the car and managed to climb out of a back window so the alarm was raised quite quickly.
“As many farmers do – my brother had a penknife and so was able to cut the seat belts – he pulled them out of the river but they never regained consciousness.
“Although desperately sad and shocked beyond all belief – all family are clear that if there can ever be such a thing as having a ‘good end’ – this was it.”
Phil signed off his post with: “It feels horrendous right now, but after almost 60 years of marriage – to die together on the farm they so loved will, I know, be a comfort in the future.
“Mum Dad are together which is precisely where they would have wanted to be. (Red heart emoji.)”

Celebs Go Dating’s Lottie Moss breaks silence on potential Adam Collard romance

OHMYGOSSIP — Lottie Moss has hinted she found love with Adam Collard on ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The 25-year-old star – who is the half-sister of model Kate Moss – both attended the London-based launch party for the new series of the E4 show on Tuesday (15.08.23), and Lottie admitted they “really care” about one another.
Speaking about Adam, she told The Sun newspaper: “Well he’s a lovely guy. We really care about each other.”
Quizzed about whether a romance could be on the cards between the stars, she said: “There could be. You never know. You never know.”
Several ‘Celebs Go Dating’ stars, who go onto the show in the hope the relationship experts can find them love with a member of the public, have ended up hooking up in the past, including ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Gary Lucy and ex-‘Love Island’ star Laura Anderson.
Lottie admitted it is a “curse of the show”, and hinted she and Adam may have fallen victim to it.
She added: “I mean, it happens every time though.
“It’s really like a curse of the show, like every time there is two celebrities!
“I think it’s really interesting.
“I definitely didn’t expect to come in here and meet someone that I really like and, you know, ended up doing that with someone.”
Asked if she is talking about Adam, Lottie coyly replied: “You’ll have to watch and find out!”
Other stars taking part in the new series include TV legend Vanessa Feltz and former ‘Love Island’ star Chloe Burrows.
This season will also see a new expert join Anna Williamson and Paul Brunson, in the shape of sex and relationships guru Dr Tara Suwinyattichaiporn.

Ben Platt gave Theater Camp designer ‘generous’ amount of freedom for special costumes

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Platt gave ‘Theater Camp’ costume designer Michelle J. Li a “generous” amount of freedom.
The 29-year-old actor – who plays Amos Klabuchar opposite Molly Gordon (Rebecca-Diane) in the upcoming musical comedy they wrote with co-star Noah Galvin (Glenn Wintrop) and Gordon’s co-director Nick Liberman – gave Li plenty of room to get involved in the ensemble piece.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “He has a series of show T-shirts that, within the context of Theater Camp, his character, Amos, and Rebecca Diane, they have been at this camp for 11 years as best friends.
“And they create this original musical every single year. And so, Ben gave me a list of 15 to 20 fictitious musicals, and he was like, ‘Pick your favorite, and make ‘em into T-shirts.’
“And so it was really nice because it was such a generous and collaborative offer, right?”
Li noted how Platt gave her the “framework” but made sure she was in a position to make her own choices.
She added: “He was presenting me with the options that he was thinking about as far as some shows, but he also gave me the opportunity to figure out which ones I thought were funniest, and which ones I was able to create a graphic T-shirt for.
“And so [some of the ones] that we landed on were ‘A Hanukkah Divorce’ and ‘The Briefcase, The Door And The Salad’.
“It was great because he gave me the framework, but as far as the direction for how the graphic should look, the tag lines associated with it, that was all me.”
Li – who has worked on the likes of ‘Shiva Baby’ and ‘Nora From Queens’ in the past – loved how “open” the team were.
She said: “It was so great being able to have that freedom and room to breathe as a designer and knowing that they were open enough to take that kind of suggestion and energy from me into the project.”

Michael Cera felt ‘depressed’ when Scott Pilgrim vs The World wrapped

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Cera felt “a little depressed” after finishing filming ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World’.
The 34-year-old actor admitted he struggled to accept it was over when work wrapped on Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy – which is based on the graphic novel of the same name – and he had to leave the cast and crew behind.
In an interview conducted before the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, he told GQ magazine: “By the end of the movie, I felt like this is my world, this is my group of friends.
“I thought it was always gonna be this way, and honestly I was a little depressed when we were done because it all just goes away, and you’re kind of like, ‘Where did everybody go?’
“You kind of get used to it as you get older, but I was sad to lose it, I could have kept making that forever, even though it was exhausting.”
Cera – who was a huge fan of filmmaker Wright’s due to his work on the likes of ‘Spaced’, ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ – admitted the atmosphere on set helped with his own gruelling schedule.
He added: “It was so much fun! IT was a long shoot – for me, in particular, because other people kind of came and went but I was there for, I think, nine months – which is an enormous amount of time to work on something.
“But it was so much fun all the time because we just had the greatest vibe with everybody.
“I think that trickled down from Edgar and the energy that he was creating. We all got to rehearse together and spend a lot of time together before we even started making the movie.”
Later this year, Cera will be reprising his role as Scott Pilgrim in upcoming Netflix animated series ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is returning as Ramona Flowers, while the likes of Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Chris Evans, Aubrey Plaza and Brie Larson are also back having appeared in the original movie.

Coronation Street’s Ryan Prescott understands why people create ‘X-rated’ OnlyFans content

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ star Ryan Prescott understands why people create content on OnlyFans.
The 34-year-old actor – whose character Ryan Connor posts saucy content on the subscription-based website as part of a new plot – has insisted he wouldn’t create content like his namesake alter-ego has been, but he learnt a lot about why people might start posting and then get “trapped”.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’d obviously never do anything like this myself, and I don’t take steroids either, but the documentary was interesting. It helped me understand how people can get coerced. It’s like drugs. It starts with something minor and then gets more X-rated. The nice comments inflate his ego and he gets trapped.”
Ryan labelled the “sexy” scenes “tastefully done” and praised the ITV1 soap for making him “feel comfortable”.
He said: “It’s all tastefully done, of course, but there are part nude elements. In one scene we’ve filmed, they said, ‘Think sexy!’
“I had to take my top off and dirty talk to the camera, saying, ‘Give me more cash’. It was possibly the most awkward moment of my career thus far. But we’ve had a lot of fun on set and everyone has been amazing to make me feel comfortable.”
The ex ‘Casualty’ star called his role “a massive learning curve” because his ADHD makes it much harder for him to learn all his lines.
Ryan said: “It’s been such a massive learning curve being on ‘Corrie’ and easily the best job I’ve ever done.
“I do struggle at times with the pace of it all. I am in awe of everyone on set who can just take a page of text and run with it as I do struggle learning the lines sometimes.
“But I do think being on ‘Corrie’ for five years now has helped me a lot. I’ve learned to lean 90 per cent of the time on trusting my instincts more and I’ve definitely got more confidence.”

Linda Nolan is ‘early for everything’ due to her new stairlift

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Nolan has had a stairlift fitted – and she is now “early for everything”.
The ex ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star – who recently revealed the stage three breast cancer she was first diagnosed with in 2005 has spread to her brain, after it reappeared in 2017 – didn’t ever think she would enthuse with “excitement” over the installation of a stairlift in her 71-year-old sister Denise’s home, but the day it was put it was like her “independence day”.
The 64-year-old singer wrote in her column for the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Words I never thought I’d say and certainly not with excitement: Lo, my stairlift has arrived!
“After many weeks of waiting – and one nasty fall backwards down four steps – I can now get up and down Denise’s stairs without calling for reinforcements.
“Last Thursday, when the stairlift arrived, it was genuinely independence day. But lord, they hear me coming.”
Earlier this week, Linda confessed she was no longer “frightened” of death after she dreamt of her former bandmate and late sister Bernie – who passed away aged 53 in 2013 – and she has a feeling of “joy” that she will one day be reunited with her sibling, and her late husband Brian Hudson.
She said: “What happens when you die is a frightening thought and I was scared that first night, but I dreamt of Bernie all night a few days later. We were laughing hysterically like we used to, and we were sorting my will: ‘Give that one this and that one that.’ And when I woke up, I wasn’t frightened any more. Can you believe that’s how I feel?
“The medical people say, ‘It’s in your brain’ and I’m not frightened any more.
“I feel Brian will be there – and Bernie. I got a feeling of joy out of that. You know, when she was dying, I remember it was about four days before that happened, and Bernie said to me, ‘Can you believe I’m dying? And now it’s going to be me. My sisters say, ‘Well, we could all die at any time but I have medical opinions…’ ”

Sir Michael Parkinson dies aged 88 following ‘brief illness’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Parkinson has died at the age of 88.
The legendary TV broadcaster’s family have confirmed he passed away “peacefully” on Wednesday evening (16.08.23) following a “brief illness”.
According to the BBC, a statement from Sir Michael’s family said: “After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family.
“The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve.”
Michael – who was affectionately known as “Parky” – was known for interviewing several high-profile celebrities over his seven-decade long career, including the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sir Elton John, Madonna and Dame Helen Mirren, and Sir Billy Connolly.
In 2013, he underwent radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer, but he received the all-clear from doctors two years later.
The star hosted his first TV talk show, ‘Parkinson’, from 1971 to 1982, and he later returned to the BBC in 1998 for another run.
Michael – who was knighted in 2008, and made a CBE in 2000 – estimated he interviewed more than 2,000 guests throughout his career in more than 800 episodes of his show.
He previously said his chat with legendary boxer Ali was his favourite.
Michael apologised to actress Meg Ryan in 2021, following his interview with her in 2003.
The chat has become known as one of his most infamous, when Meg delivered several one-word answers while being interviewing about her erotic thriller ‘The Cut’.
But Michael apologised nearly 20 years later, admitting neither of them were on “top form”.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “I wish I hadn’t lost my temper with Meg Ryan. I wish I’d dealt with it in a more courteous manner. I was quite obviously angry with her and it’s not my business to be angry towards the guests. I came across as kind of pompous and I could have done better.”
Michael also presented Sky Arts series ‘Michael Parkinson: Masterclass’ from 2012 to 2014, and worked on ITV’s breakfast show ‘TV-am’, ‘Give Us a Clue’, and BBC One’s ‘Going For a Song’.
