Strictly’s Amy Dowden in talks with show for appearance this year amid cancer battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Cancer-stricken ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Amy Dowden is hoping to make an appearance on this year’s show.
The 33-year-old dancer is battling a grade three tumour – which was discovered just before she jetted off on her honeymoon with her husband Ben Jones in April – after previously undergoing a mastectomy for breast cancer.
On top of that, she was rushed to hospital with “life-threatening” Sepsis earlier this month after her first round of chemotherapy, but she’s still planning to feature on the programme when it returns in the autumn.
She told HELLO! magazine: “I’ve been on the phone to the ‘Strictly’ team today.
“They said they’re getting me some fabulous wigs ready [for any appearances].”
Amy – who also has inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s) – detailed her scary hospital dash after just assuming she was having a bad reaction to the chemo.
She shared: “I began feeling sick and not quite right. I felt freezing cold but I was all clammy and shaking. My mum and dad rang my red card [which provides the chemotherapy team’s contact details and current treatment information] and they said to hang up and ring the ambulance.”
However, Amy wasn’t keen on the idea of being in the hospital because she could easily pick up an infection with her low immune system.
Fortunately, her parents persuaded her.
She said: “I didn’t want to go into hospital; at the time I didn’t realise how ill I was. I knew it was a Saturday night, so A+E would probably be crowded, and it was dangerous being around people as it’s more likely you’ll pick up an infection. On chemo, you don’t have your white blood cells to fight infection.”
The staff at the hospital initially treated her via a drip for a viral infection, but it turned out to be Sepsis, and she was taken into the ICU when her blood pressure dropped seriously low.
She added: “I just got very, very unlucky. I’m also more prone to infections because my Crohn’s means I have a lower immune system.”

‘That broke me…’ David Ayer still devastated by final Suicide Squad cut

OHMYGOSSIP — David Ayer has admitted ‘Suicide Squad’ “broke” him when he saw the release cut.
The 55-year-old filmmaker has reflected on how the DC movie left him devastated as he compared it to the heartbreak of seeing “someone you love” sleep with “someone you hate”.
Appearing on the ‘Real Ones with Jon Bernthal’ podcast, Ayer said: “Hollywood, I tell people, is like watching someone you love get f***** by someone you hate.
“The big one is ‘Suicide Squad’. That s*** broke me. That handed me my a**.”
Ayer revealed the set of circumstances that led to his “dark, soulful movie” becoming move of a comedy.
He added: “Come right off ‘Fury’, right? I had the town in my hand, could’ve done anything, and I did do anything.
“And [I] go on this journey with [‘Suicide Squad’]. And the same thing — authentic, truthful, let’s do all the rehearsal, let’s really get in each other’s souls.
“Let’s create this amazing, collaborative thing, right?
“And ‘then Deadpool’ opened… and they never tested ‘Batman v Superman’ so they were expecting a different result, and then they got hammered by all the critics.
“Then it’s like, ‘Okay, we’re going to turn David Ayer’s dark, soulful movie into a f****** comedy now.’ ”
Thankfully for Ayer, he recently revealed that new DC boss James Gunn has told him his original cut of ‘Suicide Squad’ will be released one day,
He wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Have you ever had an experience in life that didn’t until the way you wanted, that dragged you, that made you rethink everything?
“I have. All I know is my unseen film plays much better than the studio release.
“The interest in my cut being show seems real and organic. And Gunn told me it would have it’s time to be shared.”

Zendaya wants to play a ‘bad guy’

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya wants to play a “bad guy”.
The 26-year-old actress would love to play an ill-intentioned person, but not specifically a villain in a superhero flick, because she’s always portraying the “good guy”.
Speaking to ELLE magazine before the SAG-AFTRA strike, she said: “I would love to play a villain of sorts.
“Tap into the evil, supervillain vibes. Whatever that manifests in, I don’t think necessarily in a superhero sense, I just mean in like an emotional sense.
“I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I’d like to play the bad guy.”
If the ‘Dune’ star wasn’t working in the movie business, she’d be a teacher like her mum and dad.
However, she also aspires to step behind the camera.
She said: “I think within the industry, I would be a director, which is something I hope to do one day.
“And I think outside, I feel like I would have probably followed in the footsteps of my parents and become a teacher. I love kids, I love learning and I love teaching.”
Zendaya has starred in hit movies such as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’ but insists that she is not following a strict career plan despite becoming one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood.
She previously told British Vogue: “I never really thought, ‘I have to do this by this time and I want to do this by that time.’ I just want to do the things that make me happy and bring me joy and fulfil me as an artist, as a person.
“So, I keep that loose, because if one day it turns into a completely different career path, then I would allow myself to do that. The idea of trying to direct in the future excites me.
“That’s why I’m on set so much. When I’m not in it, I’m right there trying to learn. I go around and I ask our crew members, ‘What are you doing today? Can you explain it to me?’ Because we’ve got some real vets in the game. So, the hope is that I’ll be able to, one day, make the things that I want to see.”

Karen Blick used crystal therapy to cope with Emmerdale rape plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Blick turned to crystal healing therapy to help her cope with her ‘Emmerdale’ rape storyline.
The actress – who has played Lydia Dingle since 2016 – had to film a number of harrowing scenes for the upcoming plot which will see Lydia get attacked by ex boyfriend Craig Reed, played by Ben Addis.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column, she said: “I’ve got a lovely friend who’s a crystal healing therapist and she contacted me a couple of weeks before we started filming and said, ‘Can I help you? Can I help you look after your energy?’
“I’m really open-minded about things like this and I thought, ‘Well it can’t hurt. I’ll give it a go.’
“She gave me some crystals to carry around with me and to keep in my dressing room.”
Karen admitted she saw a benefit to the “useful ritual” when it came to dealing with the “negative” feelings around the storyline, which is set to start next month on ITV.
She added: “I found it was a useful ritual to absorb some of the negative energy and some of the thoughts, feelings, emotions around this story.”
And she also turned to other “healthy, productive” methods to help her cope, including hypnotherapy and yoga, and ensure she wasn’t taking her work home with her.
She said: “On the advice of professionals that I’ve spoken to, I had some hypnotherapy.
“I started a daily yoga practice so I could kind of get rid of anything that might have been physically staying with me at the end of the day.
“I was keen to find healthy, productive coping mechanisms. I made sure that I was in a good, strong, physical, psychological place in order to tackle this story.”

Sir David Attenborough returning for Planet Earth III

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Attenborough is set to present ‘Planet Earth III’.
The 97-year-old broadcaster has already started filming his introductory scenes for the new wildlife series – which is due to air on BBC One later this year after being commissioned in 2019 – having presented the original ‘Planet Earth’ in 2006 and its follow-up a decade later.
Executive producer Mike Gunton told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘Planet Earth’ wouldn’t be ‘Planet Earth’ without David, so I’m delighted he is presenting the third series.
“As ever, he has brought his huge enthusiasm and wisdom, has been encouraging about our new perspective and has, I know, really enjoyed seeing the extraordinary new wonders brought to the screen.”
Sir David shot his first opening as “the sun shone under blue skies” in what was a very significant and approrpriate spot.
Mike added: “The opening of the series with David was filmed in the beautiful British countryside in exactly the location where Charles Darwin used to walk whilst thinking over his Earth-shaking ideas about evolution.
“It seemed the perfect place for David to introduce ‘Planet Earth III’ and remind us of both the wonders and the fragility of our planet.”
The eight-part programme promises to showcase amazing animal footage from around the world, as well as some that has never been aired before.
Creatues set to be highlighted include tropical Mobula rays, the Canadian spirit bear and African Jacana birds.

Chad Stahelski’s Highlander reboot could launch a franchise

OHMYGOSSIP — Chad Stahelski’s ‘Highlander’ reboot could mark the beginning of a franchise.
The ‘John Wick’ director is set to helm a remake of the classic 1986 fantasy movie – with Henry Cavill attached to star in the lead role – and suggested that it could act as a prequel with further flicks to follow.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chad said: “I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline, ‘There can only be one’, you can’t just kill everybody the first time.”
The 54-year-old filmmaker continued: “I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to ‘The Gathering’, so we have room to grow the property.”
The original ‘Highlander’ movie starred Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and Sir Sean Connery as immortal beings who hunt down one another to collect more power.
The film, notable for its ‘There can only be one’ catchphrase and Queen soundtrack, spawned four sequels and three spin-off TV series.
It has not been specified if Henry will be playing a brand new character or one from a previous project but Chad is convinced that the former ‘Superman’ actor has the “physicality and empathy” to lead the movie.
He said: “Henry obviously has the physicality, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot if you can’t carry the empathy of a character that’s lived 500 years, and I needed somebody who could do both.
“The character’s arc spans hundreds of years and he becomes many different personalities, all of which extend the timeline of his emotional growth.
“Then during our first meeting, my suspicions were confirmed: Henry was immediately riffing on the idea of the burden of immortality and you could see in his eyes that he can transform himself from being a young, vibrant soul to an old, wise soul. He had this combination I was fascinated by.”

Love Island’s Yewande Biala has ‘never had an orgasm’

OHMYGOSSIP — Yewande Biala has never had an orgasm and wants to improve sex education for women.
The former ‘Love Island’ star – who appeared on the ITV2 dating show back in 2019 after working in the pharmaceutical industry – is fronting a new Channel 4 documentary, ‘Secrets of the Female Orgasm’, exploring how she and other women don’t understand how to climax due to a lack of education as she hopes to encourage better education around female pleasure.
The 28-year-old influencer told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “It’s such a defining moment when you are a teen learning about sex in school, and sex education teaches about male orgasms but not about female ones.
“I am hoping there’s a woman watching who works for the Government who thinks that what I’ve done is interesting and pushes doing more in the school curriculum.
“It’s not like I am campaigning. I’m just an ordinary girl who at 26 has never had an orgasm. The programme is just my journey.”
Yewande – whose programme will air on Thursday at 10pm – reflected on her time on the reality show that launched her media career, pointing out people aren’t as frisky between the sheets as viewers might believe, and dubbed instead all “about finding love and friendship” like her bests Anna Vakili, 32, and the eventual winner Amber Gill, 26.
She told The Guardian newspaper: “Not many of the cast members actually do have sex. It never once crossed my mind – I knew I was never going to have sex [in the show]. People on the show were sexualised because of how they looked, but I didn’t think it was a sexual show. If anything, it’s a show about finding love and friendship.”
Yewande pointed out the “shame” in not having as much sex as someone might think she is having.
She added: “You’re shamed if you have sex with too many people, but then how are you supposed to figure out what you like and what you don’t like if you’re not having sex?
“But it’s confusing because there’s also shame about not having sex or orgasms.
“Everyone looks at you like you’re an absolute weirdo, like, what the hell have you been doing?”

‘An annoying distraction’: Leonard Bernstein’s daughter defends Bradley Cooper in Maestro nose row

OHMYGOSSIP — Leonard Bernstein’s daughter has described the controversy surrounding Bradley Cooper’s prosthetic nose in his portrayal of her father as an “annoying distraction”.
The 48-year-old actor has come under fire for wearing a large prosthetic nose as he plays the legendary Jewish conductor in the biopic ‘Maestro’ but Bernstein’s eldest daughter Jamie is frustrated by the backlash.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “It’s just such an annoying distraction. The people who were waiting to get mad about something were just waiting to pounce.”
Bradley worked with Oscar-winning makeup artist Kazu Hiro to create the controversial nose and Jamie, along with her siblings Alexander and Nina, were amazed by the resemblance he had to their father.
She explained: “It just made us gasp at what they were able to achieve. He would send us photographs on his phone, and some of them were so spot on that we would think, ‘Oh, come on now, he just sneaked in a picture of our dad.'”
Cooper both stars in and directs ‘Maestro’ and Jamie considers him the perfect actor to bring her father to life on the big screen ahead of the picture’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday (02.09.23).
She said: “His energy was so similar to our dad’s, and his way of being in the world and relating to people reminded us more and more of our dad, and we began to see how right he was for the role in ways that wouldn’t even have occurred to us at first.”
Bernstein’s children had released a statement in support of the ‘A Star Is Born’ actor when the row first erupted earlier this month.
They said: “Bradley Cooper included the three of us along every step of his amazing journey as he made his film about our father.
“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts.
“It happens to be true that Leonard Bernstein had a nice, big nose. Bradley chose to use make-up to amplify his resemblance, and we are perfectly fine with that.
“We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.”

Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Emmerdale all planning ‘bloodbath’: ‘Stars are terrified!’

OHMYGOSSIP — The stars of ‘Coronation Street’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Emmerdale’ are all “terrified” for their jobs after learning that multiple characters will be written out.
The three soap operas are all reportedly planning a “bloodbath” over the course of the coming months and insiders have now claimed some of the higher earners are worried that they could “face the chop” after bosses have been told to cut cast wage bills by 25 per cent.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “There is about to be a bloodbath across ‘Corrie’, ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘EastEnders’ — and it won’t be pretty.
“All the big three have all been told they need to cut their wage bills by up to 25 per cent.
“Now there is panic in the green rooms about who could be facing the chop. Some of the veterans are terrified they could be next — especially the older generation who are all earning well over £200,000.”
The insider went on to describe the atmosphere behind the scenes at all three soaps as being “full of fear” as the casts worry about what will be in store for them in what is being called the most “perilous” time to be working in the world of serial drama.
They said: “The corridors are full of fear. It could be anyone who gets a script that tells them their time is up. Working in soaps has never been more perilous than it is now.
Some of the highest earners in soap include the likes of Street legend Barbara Knox – who has played Rita Tanner on ITV’s ‘Coronation Street for over 50 years and is thought earn £250,000 a year for the part – whilst ‘Eastenders’ star Lacey Turner is thought to take home up a salary of £200,000 for her role as Stacey Slater on the BBC rival.
Earlier this month, an Ofcom report revealed that soap viewing figures are at an all-time low amid the rise of streaming services.
A source explained: “Fewer people watching the ITV soaps means less money from advertising. And for ‘EastEnders’, their dismal viewing figures make a mockery of their enormously expensive new set — paid for by the licence fee.
“The issue all three are facing is how they can claw fans back.
“Your average soap fan is likely to be older, and younger people are turning off from traditional TV and are using streaming sites.
“The soaps are also having to compete against one another more than ever. ITV moved ‘Corrie’ and ‘Emmerdale’ to create a 90-minute news broadcast every night — meaning the BBC had to choose which one they compete against.
“They chose the same slot as ‘Emmerdale’ but now put episodes on iPlayer at 6am so fans can easily watch it to stop the clash. It has become dog-eat-dog.”

Shirley Ballas teases upcoming ‘surprises’ on Strictly: ‘You must watch!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas is “fan-girling” over the new contestants on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 62-year-old star serves as head judge on the BBC Latin and Ballroom competition and teased viewers that the upcoming lineup – which includes the likes of TV legend Les Dennis, ‘Waterloo Road’ star Adam Thomas, and former ‘Love Island’ contestant Zara McDermott – has “excelled beyond anything” ahead of their live screen debut on September 23.
Speaking on Gaydio radio station, she said: “Well, I think that they haven’t done ballroom and Latin and I think they’re going to be surprised when they suddenly have to dance in close proximity in a ballroom frame, let’s say doing the waltz or the Viennese waltz.
“And you’ve got to get this technique down in a short space of time. We’ve got some fabulous movers on there who’ve never taken any dancing. So I think this is a phenomenal class I never do this but I will say this to the LGBTQ community, I am fan-girling I am. The whole cast this year has excelled beyond anything.”
The dance champion will be joined on the judging panel by Craig Revel Horwood, Anton DuBeke, and Motsi Mabuse went on to tell listeners that they “must watch” the opening episode – which will be broadcast live for the first time – because it will be of full of “surprises” as the stars are presented to the nation with their professional partners for the very first time.
She said: “I can tell you all first time, you must watch the opening show because there are surprises. That’s as far as I can tell you but the opening show is definitely going to be a watch.”
West End star Layton Williams will become the first-ever male participant to dance in a dress and at the age of 78, presenter Angela Rippon is the oldest celebrity to take part in the series in its near-20-year history.
They will join the likes of former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Ellie Leach, ‘EastEnders’ actor Nigel Harman, and tennis legend Annabel Croft amongst a host of others, all hoping to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

Tommy Jessops wants Tommy Jessops Goes To Hollywood help Down’s syndrome visibility

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Jessop hopes ‘Tommy Jessop Goes To Hollywood’ will have a “big impact” on understanding of Down’s syndrome.
The ‘Line of Duty’ star – who has the condition caused by being born with an extra chromosome – made a BBC One documentary with his brother Will that features appearances from A-listers like Kit Harrington and hopes it leads to an increase of the amount and sorts of roles for people like him after he set his sights on being in a Marvel movie.
The 38-year-old actor told the Metro newspaper: “I think it might have a big impact on people living with Down’s syndrome, hoping one day they might be superheroes as well.
“Or if not superheroes, you can also be whoever you want to be in life.”
His filmmaker brother Will outlined that they hope their project will “inspire”
He said to the same outlet: “Obviously not everyone is going to be in a superhero movie, but we do think it’s important that people have dreams and aspirations and we hope that this film will inspire people to follow their dreams.”
Will knows that his brother has the talent to act in a “compelling way” and knows he might need extra help to get this message out.
He said: “So he has to do it by himself with a bit of help from his family and friends, in order to show that he can do it, and that he can do it in a very special, unique, compelling way.
“I firmly believe that one of the main things that limits people like Tommy [and other] people with Down’s syndrome is our low expectation of them. If we take away those low expectations, you’ll be amazed.
“Even I am still guilty of that sometimes after 38 years of being Tommy’s brother, because the more opportunities, the more new things we try, the more incredible the results prove to be and Tommy’s still surprising me after all these years.”

Strictly’s Amy Dowden reveals doctors found blood clots amid breast cancer battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Dowden reveals doctors found blood clots amid her breast cancer treatment.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star is in the midst of battling a grade three tumour – which was discovered just before she jetted off on her honeymoon with her husband Ben Jones in April – and has been sharing updates from hospital after undergoing a single mastectomy and beginning chemotherapy like how she is beginning to lose her hair among other side effects.
The 33-year-old professional dancer wrote on Instagram: “And I’m going home to my own bed! Thanks again to the marvellous NHS!
“Got some blood clots but I’m feeling good other than a sore and swollen arm.
Amy dubbed it “another hurdle” while praising the medical professionals looking after her on the ward upon her departure.
She continued: “Another hurdle along this journey. But again forever grateful to the NHS and my heroes around me.
“Can’t wait to get into my own bed since Monday though.”
Amy was sent well-wishes from her co-stars on the BBC One latin and ballroom competition – which she is unable to compete on this year but has done since 2017 – and others across the telly industry.
Fellow ‘Strictly’ professional Gorka Marquez wrote: “You got this.”
Motsi Mabuse, 42 – who sits on the judging panel with Shirley Ballas, 62, Craig Revel-Horwood, 58, and Anton Du Beke, 57 – commented two red heart emojis while ‘EastEnders’ star Emma Barton wrote: “You are amazing.”
Amy recently revealed how her condition proved to be worse than she thought it was and was resistant to have the required action to tackle it.
She told paralympian Erin Kennedy, 31, while on an Instagram Live together: “I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.
“But then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours.
“After my mastectomy, unfortunately they found even more tumours. Then they found another type of cancer.”
Amy added: “But the oncologist did say that with chemo I’ve got a really good chance of a cure.
“For me, straightaway, it was my dancing, like, ‘you can take away my boob but you can’t take my dancing away from me’.
“That’s what I get really upset about.”
After being unable to appear on the show this year, she praised her bosses at the public sector broadcaster after being “in regular contact with the team.”
She said: “The BBC have just been utterly incredible” as she unveils her plan “to continue dancing”.

Nimród Antal on directing Liam Neeson’s movie Retribution: ‘It was a challenge worth accepting!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nimród Antal thought ‘Retribution’ was a “challenge worth accepting.”
The 49-year-old director is at the helm of the English language remake of the 2015 Spanish film ‘El desconocido’ and jumped the chance to be the one to put the “fun concept” into the camera.
He told MovieWeb: “I think that the concept is something that has inspired a few different countries to remake. We weren’t the only ones. I think the base concept was just so much fun. I liked the challenge of trying to make something suspenseful within these confined spaces. I always think that’s a challenge worth accepting!”
The hostage thriller stars ‘Taken’ actor Liam Neeson as a man who has had his life turned upside down fighting to get it back and Nimrod went on to admit that he very much wanted to work with Liam, who stars alongside ‘Matilda’ actress Embeth Davidtz in the picture.
He added: “The opportunity to work with Liam Neeson was hyper appealing to me. He is a king of his craft. I just thought it would be a really cool experience. I was lucky enough to have that confirmed. I really enjoyed myself on the film, and Beth [Embeth Davidtz], and Matthew Modine in addition. Noma [Dumezweni], an incredible actor, and the kids [Lilly Aspell, Jack Champion], it was really a fun time for me to work with these very talented actors.”
“Liam’s a king of his craft and someone that has worked with some of the biggest filmmakers ever. It’s a daunting feeling showing up to present your ideas to him. But with most of the greats, what I’ve noticed is if they sense that you are arriving with not only preparedness but a passion, then they respond to that very well.
“I’m a big collaborator. I’m someone that really enjoys the process of discovering things with the actors. I come with storyboards. I come with a set of ideas as to how I like to approach it. None of it is set in stone. Often I’ll have other ideas, whether it’s coming from the actors, the DP [cinematographer], or other team players.”
‘Retribution’ is due for release in cinemas on October 13.

Dune 2 has officially been delayed until March 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ sequel has been delayed until March 15, 2024.
The move comes amid the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ guilds walkouts.
As well as ‘Dune: Part 2’ being pushed back, Warner Bros. announced ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ has a new release date of April 12, 2024.
‘Wonka’, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and ‘The Color Purple’ will all still come out in December this year.
The decision comes after IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond rubbished reports ‘Dune: Part Two’ was held up.
He said: “I feel quite strongly that it’s not going to move.”
The ‘Dune’ sequel will see Timothee Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica), Zendaya (Chani) and Javier Bardem (Stilgar) reprise their roles.
New cast members including Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler and Lea Seydoux.
The flick was initially being eyed for an October 2023 release.
In Frank Herbert’s original ‘Dune’ novel, Lady Margot is a long-standing servant of the Sisterhood.
‘Dune’ was praised by critics following its release in 2021, and won six prizes at the Oscars but cinematographer Greig Fraser has promised that the sequel will be “bigger and better”.
He said: “I’ve been trained by the house of mouse at Lucasfilm not to give you any scoops.
“But I can tell you that this is a bigger story. I’ve read the script, and I’m more blown away by this script than I was by ‘Part One’. I’m more excited.”
