‘It’s kind of peculiar’: Vanessa Kirby says Napoleon explores the mindset of the French emperor

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Kirby says that ‘Napoleon’ will explore the “psyche” of the French emperor.
The 35-year-old actress features opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Ridley Scott’s historical epic as Napoleon’s wife Josephine de Beauharnais and revealed how the movie will paint a picture of the historical figure’s “strange” mentality.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Vanessa said: “Joaquin studies the psyche, and the psyche of Napoleon is so strange. The film feels like that. It’s kind of peculiar, and there’s an intensity in that.”
The ‘Mission: Impossible’ actress continued: “Napoleon wasn’t stoic and wonderful like Russell Crowe was in ‘Gladiator’. He was a dictator, a war criminal, really.
“It couldn’t be rousing, because that man killed hundreds and hundreds of thousands of men, in my opinion needlessly. And for what? To get an empire, for what?
“In the end, it all disintegrated anyway. That psyche run wild is dangerous as hell, and very strange. And this is a portrait of that.”
Phoenix and Scott previously worked together on the acclaimed historical flick ‘Gladiator’ and the Oscar-winning star said it was a simple decision to team up with the filmmaker again.
The ‘Joker’ star said: “The truth is, there was just a very nostalgic idea of working with Ridley again.
“I had such an incredible experience working with Ridley on ‘Gladiator’, and I was so young. It was my first big production. I really yearned for that experience again, or something similar.
“He’s approached me about other things in the past, but nothing that felt like it would be as demanding for both of us. And so I really liked the idea of jumping into something with Ridley that was going to be that.”

‘Lucy Gray is the opposite’: Francis Lawrence describes Rachel Zegler’s Hunger Games character as the ‘anti-Katniss’

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Lawrence has described Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird as the “anti-Katniss” in the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel.
The 52-year-old director questioned if fans would embrace a movie without Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ but is comforted by the fact that Zegler’s alter ego is the total opposite of Jennifer’s protagonist.
Francis told Empire magazine: “Katniss was an introvert and a survivor. She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say (she was) asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite. She wears her sexuality on her sleeve, (and) she really is a performer.”
The director compared how Katniss became a reluctant face of a rebellion and suggested that Lucy Gray is a showwoman by comparison.
Francis said: “(Lucy Gray) loves crowds. She knows how to play crowds and manipulate people.”
Lucy Gray is the love interest for 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), the tyrannical president of Panam who was introduced to audiences in the original ‘Hunger Games’ movies.
Producer Nina Jacobson said: “He is a shape-shifter who craves control but is drawn to a woman who threatens everything he thought he wanted.”
Jennifer Lawrence does not feature in the cast of the new movie – slated for release in November – but previously revealed that she is “totally” open to a return to ‘The Hunger Games’.
Asked about the possibility during a Zoom interview with Variety, the 33-year-old actress said: “Oh, my God – totally! If Katniss ever could ever come back into my life, 100 per cent.
“My producing partner just clutched her heart.”

Julia Bradbury is ‘grateful’ for breast cancer diagnosis: ‘It might sound a weird thing to say…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Bradbury’ is “grateful” for her breast cancer diagnosis.
The 53-year-old presenter admitted that finding a lump in her breast during a mammogram in June 2021 and then eventually undergoing a mastectomy as part of her treatment “revolutionised” her life as it made her “re-examine” her entire existence.
She told Prima magazine: “There’s no question that a cancer diagnosis changes your life. It doesn’t define you, but it shapes you. It certainly revolutionised my approach to health, life and death. It brought gratitude to the forefront of my mind, it made me overhaul every aspect of my lifestyle and it increased my love of mother nature. I also think it made me a kinder, more understanding, and more patient human being. It might sound like a weird thing to say, but I’m actually grateful for my diagnosis, because it made me re-examine my life.”
Julia – who has son Zephyr, 12, and twin daughters Xanthe and Zena, eight, with her husband Gerard Cunningham- is now in remission but was quick to point out that her life isn’t always “positive” and often has to “deal with” her sorrowful emotions.
She said: “That said, I don’t want people to think I’m always positive smiling and never down. I don’t think that’s possible. Life is hard, and you have to learn to ride the ups and downs. Resilience is important, but so is being in touch with your emotions. I have days where I feel quite emotionally raw about what I’ve been through. In those moments, I tell myself, ‘You have to deal with them.’ I’m going to be talking about cancer for the rest of my life because I hope to help others through my knowledge and experience, so I have to find a way to process my emotions.”
The ‘Countryfile’ star recently opened up about practical tips about how she stays content with life like journaling and meditation.
Julia told the June newspaper in June: “I have found that practising gratitude by journaling or meditation, really gets me to think about the good things in life and approach difficulties in a more positive way.”

She told the Yorkshire Post in June: “Mum used to make the costumes and get me the wigs and all of that sort of thing and then dad would always write material.
“They would both practise with me, hear me say my lines and everything, and my dad would help me with a tape recorder or a video cassette recorder (to) forensically listen for everything and watch everything to see how somebody was speaking and then copy. So it was a family thing, really, and it still is to a certain extent. My mum and my dad, to be fair, are my number one fans, and my cheerleaders if you like. My dad did impressions so it was like second nature to me in a way.”

He told the ‘Me, Myself and Hopefully You…?’ podcast in 2021: “Most actors, despite being professional actors, you still have to have a job to do, between jobs. Unless you’re in the top one per cent. Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Jones was inspired by Sir David Attenborough to be more eco-conscious

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro Katya Jones was inspired by Sir David Attenborough to become more green.
The 34-year-old dancer tried to become a more mindful consumer by banning herself from new fast fashion threads but after seeing a programme by the 97-year-old broadcaster – who has helped millions of people learn about the natural world through his legendary TV career – she wanted to become more “sustainable”.
She told the Metro newspaper: “When I moved, the people from the moving companies said they’d never seen so many clothes. So I decided to take a pledge against fast fashion, not to buy any new clothes for 18 months – and I carried on for much longer. After watching a David Attenborough documentary in 2020 I decided to walk the walk and not just, talking the talk. I started to look into swapping household items for their sustainable alternatives.”
Katya – who was once married to fellow ‘Strictly’ professional Neil Jones, 41 – knows the task is mammoth but knew she could help by adopting “a more eco-con
She said: “It’s evident that more needs to be done in the world towards living more sustainably. However, one place where I can start making changes, and strive for a more eco-conscious lifestyle, is my own home.”
The former ‘Celebrity Masterchef’ contestant advocates for buying “alternatives” to loads of everyday items as a quick fix but railed against buying “unreasonable amounts” of things like water bottles.
Katya said: “I started finding alternatives for shampoos, toothpaste, deodorant, refillable soap, kitchen items like dishwashing alternatives, swapped cling film for beeswax wraps, as well as taking my own cutlery and cups everywhere I go.”
“We all agree that having a water bottle you can refill is essential to cutting down single-use plastic However, producing reusable bottles in unreasonable amounts, putting branding on them, and giving them away as gifts, seems to defeat the object. I see heaps of them in charity shops, left in gyms and public places. Surely, one or two per person should suffice?”

Martin Clunes ‘did not enjoy’ being shamed over his ears: ‘I think they’re splendid!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Clunes “did not appreciate” being made fun of because of his ears.
The 61-year-old actor enjoyed massive TV success with his role on ‘Men Behaving Badly’ in the 1990s alongside Neil Morrissey and while at the time he did not enjoy being shamed over the protruding appearance of his ears at the time, he now thinks they are “rather splendid” as he mused that they have probably helped him in his career.
He told Woman’s Weekly magazine: “I don’t have leading-man looks [but] age gives you greater perspective. The younger me didn’t much enjoy having my appearance insulted or being ‘ear-shamed’, for example. Now, I think my ears are rather splendid, and I realise they earned me roles I might not otherwise have had.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘Doc Martin’ star is now fronting ‘Britain By the Book’ along with former ‘Great British Bake Off’ host Mel Giedroyc, a new documentary which will see the pair explore landmarks that have inspired various pieces of classic literature but revealed that when he was growing up, his mother would not allow him to read anything by legendary ‘Famous Five’ author Enid Blyton, nor did she allow them to watch anything by Disney because she “couldn’t bear” anything that focused on children.
He added: “My mother would forgive me for saying that she was something of a literary snob, and we didn’t get any Enid Blyton or anything Disney, either. She wasn’t keen on anything really child-centric. She couldn’t bear it. The idea of taking us to Disney then would have done her in. She took us to antiques shops.”
‘Britain By the Book’ airs on Wednesday 6 September on ITV1 and ITVX.

Loose Women’s Sophie Morgan reveals travel struggles for disabled passengers: ‘It’s impossible!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Morgan thinks it is “impossible” for disabled airline passengers to travel without “something going wrong.”
The 38-year-old TV presenter – who crashed her car at the age of 18 and was left paralyzed from the waist down – had been trying to take a battery-powered wheelchair attachment on board a flight at Heathrow but was refused and has now teamed up with MP Marion Fellows to front the Rights On Flights campaign.
She told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “It is impossible to fly these days without something going wrong. They refused to let it travel on board the flight. Even though I know that the battery I travel with is the right size, I have got the paperwork and I have checked the regulations and I know my rights, they were just refusing to let me fly with it in the cabin. I sat my ground and I refused to let them bully me. Eventually, the captain came out, and I said ‘Show me the piece of paper that tells me that I am wrong about this. I am pretty sure I know my rights by now because I have had to learn my rights!’
“Most people who fly, who are disabled, have to know their rights these days. I was so excited about the trip and I splashed out on business class, it was trip of a lifetime stuff. Then the first part of the trip was spent fighting for my rights. I just wanted to have the time off from campaigning. But that is why I am campaigning for Rights On Flights.”
Sophie – who started her TV career just nine months after her accident along with 11 other disabled people on BBC Two expedition series ‘ Beyond Boundaries’ but these days is best known as a regular panellist on ITV1’s lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’ – went on to add that she had “no idea” what lay in store for at the time of her accident and thinks her younger self would be “amazed” at her achievements.
She added: “I had no idea what I could do and that’s part of the reason why I have done what I’ve done. Just to prove to myself that there are these amazing things that I can do that I think the younger version of me would have never expected and perhaps what other people might still not expect.”

Cher ‘starting over’ on biopic because it ‘wasn’t working out’

OHMYGOSSIP — Cher is starting over on her biopic because it “wasn’t working out”.
The 77-year-old pop veteran spent two years working on a movie based on her life, but the project has now been scrapped and she is starting from scratch so she can make some changes to ensure the film is exactly how she wants it.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “We are kind of starting again. It just wasn’t working out, and we needed to adjust some of the things.”
However, the film is going to face further delays because work can’t resume until after the strikes by the writers and actors unions which have brought Hollywood to a standstill.
Cher added: “We’re going to have to wait [until after the strikes]. I’m not going to go against my people.”
When asked whether the film is going to be a ” jukebox musical” which showcases her hits, Cher insisted she still hasn’t decided which direction to go in.
She explained: “I can never decide what I want to do. The thing about my life is that there’s too much. It’s hard to capture it and all the things I’ve done. So it’s really a lot. The biggest problem is trying to get the story into a decent time period.”
The singer previous confirmed she was working on the biopic alongside producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman – the team behind 2008 ABBA movie-musical ‘Mamma Mia!’ and its sequel ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ which featured Cher in a supporting role.
A previous statement from Craymer explained: “Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true life odyssey to the big screen. One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger than life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth and vision.
“Her unparalleled success in music film and TV have inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.”
Eric Roth – the writer behind ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘A Star Is Born’ – was onboard to write the screenplay. Roth also penned the screenplay for Cher’s 1987 film ‘Suspect’ and the singer described him as a “dear dear friend” in a tweet announcing the news.

Neill Blomkamp didn’t want to disguise Archie Madekwe’s height in Gran Turismo

OHMYGOSSIP — Neill Blomkamp refused to use camera tricks to disguise Archie Madekwe’s height in ‘Gran Turismo’.
The actor was cast as gamer-turned-racing driver Jann Mardenborough in the film but director Neill soon found out the actor was much taller than his real life counterpart – but he decided he didn’t want to cover up the discrepancy because he can’t stand “overly manicured fakeness” in films.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “When it came to shooting the scenes, I purposefully just shot them. It wasn’t like I tried to make him shorter or other people taller. My whole approach is just to try to be as naturalistic as possible, and I don’t like it when you’re creating a synthetic or an overly manicured fakeness to what you’re shooting, I like it to just be raw. So I just let his height be what it is on purpose.”
However, Archie’s height did become an issue when he attempted to squeeze himself into cars designed for much shorter drivers.
Neill went on to say: “Where it [his height] was an issue was in the race cars. He’s so tall that we had to make custom considerations. We had to pull seats out of cars a lot of the time.
“We had to give him seats that made him comfortable and so that he could fit in the vehicle properly. We also had issues with cameras a lot of the time. It’s so claustrophobic in the car that we actually cut at the top of his eyeline a lot of the time, because the camera couldn’t physically tilt up more.”
The director admitted his star “hated” filming in the cars because it was such a tight fit.
He added: “He … absolutely hated getting in the car. I mean, it got to the point where I referred to it as the iron maiden; that’s how much he hated it. So he just didn’t want to get in the car, but what’s cool about it is when he saw the film, he was like: ‘OK, that was worth it. It feels real and it is real’. So Archie suffered, but it puts the audience there with him.”
‘Gran Turismo’ hit cinemas earlier this month.

Paul Mescal feels ‘stressed’ over Gladiator 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Mescal feels “stressed” whenever he talks about ‘Gladiator 2’ – insisting it’s the ‘biggest’ role of his career so far.
The 27-year-old ‘Normal People’ star plays Lucius – believed to be the nephew of Joaquin Phoenix’s character Commodus – in the upcoming epic which is being directed by Sir Ridley Scott who also helmed the first film but Paul is adamant he’s already feeling the pressure of taking on such a huge job.
Speaking to Esquire magazine prior to the Hollywood actors strike, Paul explained: “I can’t tell you how stressed I am talking about that film in particular, because it’s definitely the biggest one I’ve done. I feel really excited, but, like, it’s difficult to get away from the legacy of the film a bit. I think it’s really well written and it pays homage to the first one, but it’s very much something that I think I can step into and make comfortably my own.”
When asked if he has spoken to Russell Crowe – the star of the first ‘Gladiator’ film – he said he hadn’t and added: “I don’t know what we would talk about. Like, I’d love to hear his stories from filming, but the character is, like, totally separate.”
He’s set to star opposite ‘The Mandalorian’ actor Pedro Pascal in the new movie, but Paul admitted he once ran into the actor at an airport and was too nervous to say hello.
Paul explained: “I was too afraid to go up to him. He came up and just seemed so genuine; I’m really looking forward to hanging out with him.”
The movie started filming this year and has already been plagued by troubles as six crew members were reportedly rushed to hospital after an on set explosion. A big-budget special effects scene is said to have gone wrong during filming of the sequel in Morocco with reports suggesting a gas pipe on set may have ruptured.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It was terrifying — a huge ball of fire flew up and caught several crew members in its path. “In years of filming I’ve never seen an accident so scary. “Six production staff had to be rushed to hospital for treatment. “Hopefully everyone will be OK, but it was a serious accident. “Everyone involved, from the lowliest runners to the star names, has been shaken up by this.”

Meanwhile, Rose previously revealed that she dreamed of starring on ‘Strictly’.

Ruth Wilson loves to make ‘triggering’ TV shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Wilson wants TV viewers to be “triggered” by her work.
The 41-year-old actress stars in the new mystery drama ‘The Woman in the Wall’ – which explores the issue of trauma-based sleepwalking – and Ruth has revealed that she relished her latest role.
The actress – who previously starred alongside Idris Elba in ‘Luther’ – told Sky News: “It wouldn’t be as interesting for me to just take on pure entertainment.
“I kind of want people to be triggered. I mean, everyone is like ‘don’t trigger people’. No, no, no, just let them be triggered. That’s the point of art to me, you know, feel something, be made to think, be made to feel.”
Ruth describes her latest on-screen character as being “deeply human”.
She explained: “This character is so brilliantly unusual but deeply human. She is someone that is a survivor but she has these deep repressed memories that come out in sleepwalking.
“It was a great device … a way of dealing with trauma in a creative, unusual way. She’s treated as an outsider by the community because of what she’s gone through … but that gives her power in some ways.”
The show centres on the abuse suffered by thousands of Irish women and girls in church-run homes, and Ruth feels it’s an important story to tell.
She said: “Hopefully it never happens again. That’s the only way you stop it from happening again, telling these stories in the first place.”
Ruth was actually educated at a Catholic school for girls. But she remembers her own experience very fondly.
She shared: “It was a great education.”
Ruth jokingly added: “I left because I missed boys!”
