Krishnan Guru-Murthy signed up to Strictly to bring ‘joy into his life

OHMYGOSSIP — Krishnan Guru-Murthy finally signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because he wanted to bring “a little joy” into his life.
The 53-year-old Channel 4 newsreader has admitted he’s been offered the chance to compete on the series many times but he’s always turned it down, but he decided to take BBC bosses up on the offer this year after suffering through a very “grim period” in news.
He told reporters: “Something changed this year. It was kind of a feeling. The news has been through a very, very grim period. The pandemic, political chaos, the war in Ukraine and my life’s been really, really serious, in quite an intense way.
“And I genuinely thought it would be great to have some pure joy in my life. And this is just fun and laughter, and joy and learning something new that kind of takes your mind totally away from everything else. You can’t think at all, so you can’t think about anything else when you’re doing this.”
He added: “They’d asked me so many times before and I’d said no. And I kind of suddenly thought ”you’re an idiot, why aren’t you doing this?”
It comes after Krishnan revealed he won’t be able to train as hard as his fellow celebrities due to a genetic heart condition. The broadcaster has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which means he shouldn’t allow his heart rate to rise too high, otherwise, he could “drop dead” like his two cousins.
He told The Mirror: “I even asked my cardiologist if I might drop dead live on BBC1. ‘No’, was his answer. But he couldn’t give me an absolute guarantee. I have to be careful of raising my heartbeat into the red zone; that final 15 per cent. I shouldn’t go there. It’s where people with my condition drop dead.”
He added: “I can’t wait to start learning to dance, but I am slightly worried about my general decrepitude. I know I’m going to love it and have a brilliant time and just hope I’m not the only one enjoying my participation.”
The line-up for this year also includes Bobby Brazier, Layton Williams, Angela Rippon, and Amanda Abbington.

Amy Walsh marries Toby-Alexander Smith in Montenegro

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Walsh has married Toby-Alexander Smith in Montenegro three years after they met in the audience at ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actress – who is the sister of Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh – tied the knot with the ‘EastEnders’ actor at a romantic ceremony in Talici Hill Rustic Villa in front of her soap co-stars including Natalie Ann Jamieson, Olivia Bromley, and Louisa Clein and her sisters Sally and Kimberley who were both among the bridesmaids.
Amy – who plays Tracy Metcalfe in the ITV soap – was walked down the aisle by her brother Adam who then stepped aside to let their dad John – who is battling cancer – take over and walk her the rest of the way.
She told OK! magazine of the emotional moment: “My dad isn’t very well and we weren’t sure until the 11th hour if he would be able to come … He knows he only has a certain amount of time left, so it was important for him to be there. It’s a cancer you can’t cure, but you can live with it and he’s doing well fighting it.”
However, the day was a happy one for the couple – who are parents to 20-month-old daughter Bonnie. They wrote their own vows and the groom insisted it was a particularly special moment for them.
He added to the publication: “We were so connected in that moment. We talked about supporting each other’s dreams and being there for each other through thick and thin.”
At the reception there was a performance by the bride’s favourite singer, Sonny Tennet, who sang a duet with Toby’s former ‘EastEnders’ castmate, Shona McGarty, while guests were treated to cocktails, Limoncello and a cigar and whisky corner. The newly-weds danced the night away and didn’t retire to bed until 4am.
Speaking of their future plans, Amy said: “I’ll be going back to work and Toby has been doing a film in America, so there’s been a lot going on. In the future we’d like more children, but we’re going to enjoy what we’ve got now.”

Alastair Stewart felt ‘discombobulated’ before dementia diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Alastair Stewart wasn’t particularly forgetful but felt “discombobulated” in the months before his dementia diagnosis.
The 71-year-old newsreader went public with his health news over the weekend revealing he is battling early onset vascular dementia and he’s revealed the symptoms presented themselves in strange ways over six to nine months before he went to see a doctor.
Speaking on the ‘Camilla Tominey Show’ on GB News on Sunday (10.09.23), he explained: “[I felt] a bit discombobulated …
“I wasn’t becoming forgetful but things like doing your shoelaces properly – that’s how I wear these lovely moccasins now – making sure your tie was straight, remembering that the call time for your programme is four o’clock and not five o’clock, not turning up early or late, and stuff like that.”
His GP told him the symptoms could just be down to old age, but Stewart was sent for a scan which revealed he had suffered a number of minor strokes .
The TV veteran explained: “I had a scan and it was like a scene from ‘Casualty’ or ‘Emergency Ward 10’, because the results come back and I had indeed had a series of minor strokes that are called infarct strokes.
“Not the big one … it’s like peppershots. The cumulative effect of that was that I had a diagnosis of early onset vascular dementia.”
He also had some wise words for anyone who thinks they could be unwell, telling them to listen to the advice of their doctor.
Stewart added: “If you do think that there’s something wrong with you, go and see the GP. Listen to what he or she says. But also do remember that the people you work with and the people you live with and share your life with are the most important people in the entire world. And they are there if you’re lucky enough, as I was, to help you.”

Dan Walker ‘gutted’ as Strictly’s Nadiya Bychkova looks set to miss out on celebrity partner

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Walker has been left “gutted” that Nadiya Bychkova will not be given a celebrity partner on this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Channel 5 News anchor, 46, danced with the 34-year-old pro dancer in the 19th series of the BBC Latin and ballroom show in 2019, but he was shocked to hear she wouldn’t be joining forces with a new star contestant for the upcoming 21st series.
He wrote on X: “Looking forward to the new series of Strictly
“All the pros are great but gutted that @NadiyaBychkova hasn’t got a partner. (sic)”
Dan has likened the move to Argentina leaving star footballer Lionel Messi on the substitutes bench for a World Cup final, insisting Nadiya is “so talented” and is “the best teacher anyone could hope for”.
He posted: “I’m sure she’s still looking forward to being part of the biggest show on TV but it feels a bit like putting Messi on the bench for the World Cup final!
“She is so talented, the best teacher anyone could hope for, a top class lobster and she’s the Yorkshire Barmaid!
“It’s an incredible show and the whole team are amazing. I hope the celebs enjoy it we are all about the A Team… the 2 Angela’s, Amanda, Adam and Annabel (sic)”
Dan’s comments come after it was revealed Nadiya – who is dating fellow ‘Strictly’ pro Kai Widdrington – won’t get a chance at winning the Glitterball Trophy this year.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Nadiya lives and breathes ‘Strictly’, and so to hear that she wouldn’t have a celebrity partner this year was crushing for her.
“She was both gutted, and very, very angry. She has come to terms with it over the past few weeks, and will do her best to support Kai during the series.
“But it was devastating news for her.”

Rocky departing Walford! EastEnders’ Brian Conley ‘quits soap’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Conley is set to leave ‘EastEnders’.
The 62-year-old actor and comedian’s character Tom “Rocky” Cotton recently married Albert Square stalwart Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), but he is said to have been keen to depart Walford.
An ‘EastEnders’ insider told The Sun newspaper: “Brian was a brilliant signing and has been a big hit with fans.
“But it looks as though he’s just not enjoying being on ‘EastEnders’ anymore – and has been telling a lot of colleagues and telly friends he wanted out for a while.
“It’s all come to a head, and at the National TV Awards last week he was pretty open with co-stars and friends about his exit.”
The BBC are said to have been keen for Brian to remain on the soap.
‘EastEnders’ script writers are now having to “rewrite their storyline plans” following Brian’s decision, because bosses had previously thought he was “in for the long haul”.
Earlier this year, ‘EastEnders’ fans were shown a flash-forward scene that featured a male character’s dead body in the Queen Vic over the upcoming festive period.
It’s now thought Rocky could be drafted in as the dead body in place of another character.
An insider said: “There was always a plan for a major death at Christmas – but it wasn’t initially going to be this.
“If Brian wants out, it makes sense to switch it around.
“There’s time to do that before they start filming the Christmas storylines.”
But an ‘EastEnders’ spokesperson said: “There are many rumours and theories circulating about whose body is under the Christmas tree but, to not spoil the drama for the audience, we will not be commenting on any speculation.”
In November 2021, Brian – who joined the soap in May 2021 – told how he thought his late dad had helped him land his ‘EastEnders’ role.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “My father, who passed away 20 years ago, was a big fan of ‘Enders’.
“I’m a big believer in fate and I’m convinced he was up there pulling the strings.”

Wonka director reveals Timothee Chalamet sings like Bing Crosby

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Wonka’ director Paul King says Timothee Chalamet sings just like Bing Crosby.
The actor stars as Willy Wonka in the new movie – which is a prequel to 1971 film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ – and King has admitted he was amazed to hear Timothee sing because he sounds just like ‘White Christmas’ star Bing.
In an interview with Total Film, King explained: “[He has] got a beautiful singing voice. The person it reminded me of was Bing Crosby. There’s quite a range because it does go from a couple of bigger, showstopper-y sort of things, to moments of real, pure emotion, and he can do it all … I’m going to sound like a crazed fan.”
The film is a new story based around Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and features big song and dance numbers – but King is adamant it’s not really a musical.
He added to the publication: “The Oompa Loompas sing a lot in the book, and Dahl always uses poetry. But I didn’t want it to just become a musical where people are singing dialogue to each other for no discernible reason. I felt like it was more like a movie with songs than a musical.”
King previously admitted his lead actor didn’t have to audition for the role because the director was sure he was perfect for the part of Willy Wonka.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “It was a straight offer because he’s great, and he was the only person in my mind who could do it. But because he’s Timothee Chalamet and his life is so absurd, his high school musical performances are on YouTube and have hundreds of thousands of views. So I knew from stanning for Timmy Chalamet that he could sing and dance really well.”

Murder, She Wrote movie in the works after Angela Lansbury death

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Murder, She Wrote’ has been adapted for the big screen before the Hollywood strikes.
‘Dumb Money’ writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have confirmed Universal commissioned them to write a reboot of the classic series – which starred Dame Angela Lansbury as amateur detective and author Jessica Fletcher – for a feature film.
Schuker Blum told Collider: “We’ll tell you one thing that hasn’t been reported yet, which is we have written a theatrical feature film version of ‘Murder, She Wrote’ for Universal, and we’re really excited.”
Angelo added: “It’s with Pascal Pictures in Pascal and Universal, and we’re very excited to bring [Jessica Fletcher to the big screen].”
Lansbury played Fletcher in 264 episodes of the iconic murder mystery show between 1984 and 1996, and reprised the role in four feature length TV movies from 1997 to 2003.
It’s unclear who would take on the role following the veteran star’s death in October 2022 aged 96.
Angelo noted that Universal was “very excited” about the project, adding that it’s “Jessica Fletcher’s time to return”.
However, Schuker Blum admitted that despite the studio being “gung-ho” for the project, they haven’t been in talks for several months duo to the ongoing Hollywood strikes with both SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America currently taking action.
Lansbury died in her sleep last year, as her family said in a statement: “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday.”
The London-born actress won a host of accolades during her decades-long career, including five Tony awards and an honorary Oscar.
Lansbury – who was inducted into the TV Hall of Fame in 1996 and was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth in 2014 – said: “‘Murder, She Wrote’ has given me more worldwide attention than any other role I played in the movies or on the stage.
“It’s a wonderful thing to be known in Spain, Portugal, in Paris, in France and Germany and everywhere.”

‘ITV are the worst!’ Eamonn Holmes claims channel is ‘out of ideas’

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes has blasted ITV as “the worst”, claiming they have “no other ideas” apart from shows featuring Ant and Dec, Simon Cowell, or Bradley Walsh.
The former ‘This Morning’ presenter hit out at one of the channel’s latest shows, ‘My Mum, Your Dad’, which has been called a “middle-aged ‘Love Island’, in which kids nominate their single parents to try to find love again.
During a conversation on GB News about the programme, Eamonn and his fellow breakfast show presenter Isabel Webster chatted to guest Christopher Biggins about the new show.
Biggins said: “Who would do such a thing? What will they think of next?
“They’ve got no bright ideas these television people – are you listening?”
But Isabel defended the programme, insisting it is a “good idea”.
She said: “Why does it only have to be young and beautiful [people].”
But Eamonn took the opportunity to hit out at ITV, claiming they have “no other ideas” apart from shows featuring ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ co-hosts Ant and Dec, music mogul Simon, or ‘The Chase’ presenter Bradley.
He said: “I agree with you [Biggins]. I mean, ITV are the worst. If it’s not Ant and Dec, or it’s not Simon Cowell …
“Or it’s not Bradley Walsh on ‘The Chase’, they’ve got no other ideas!”
Biggins agreed with Eamonn, adding: “No ideas whatsoever!”
Eamonn’s comments come after he fronted ‘This Morning’ alongside his wife Ruth Langsford from 2006 until 2022.
Afterwards, he claimed the version of events ITV told is that he “left them to go to GB News” – which ITV has denied – and he has since accused the channel of “putting out all the lies they want”.
Speaking in June 2022, he said: He said: “The department of disinformation at ITV can put out all the lies they want.
“I wish somebody would show me the email or the letter that I was sent to say, ‘Eamonn, this is why this is coming to an end’.
“But to tell lies, that I left them to go to GB News … I didn’t – they left me. Let’s get it straight. They left me. I don’t care, because our audience is only up.”
A spokesperson for ITV said at the time: “This isn’t a version of events that we recognise, and as we have said before we wish Eamonn all of the very best.”

‘She was ahead of her time!’ Amanda Holden encourages women to be more like Cleopatra

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden thinks women nowadays should be a “bit more like” super-bright, “trailblazer” Cleopatra.
The 52-year-old TV presenter turned herself into the Egyptian queen for her new Sky History show ‘Sex: A Bonkers History’ – which she co-hosts with Dan Jones – and Amanda believes women today can take some advice from Cleopatra’s outlook on life.
Asked what she made of Cleopatra, she told Heat magazine: “She was a trailblazer who did what she wanted, was super-bright, spoke loads of different languages, and had lots of relationships.
“I think she was definitely ahead of her time – or was she like every other woman at that time, and we’ve just been pushed down over the centuries?
“Maybe we all need to be a little bit more Cleopatra.”
Amanda believes the Regency era was the “sexiest” in history because people wore so many different layers of clothing that it would take such a long time to get them off in a moment of passion, leading to “frustration”.
She said: “Just for the frustration of trying to get all the outfits off, I’m going to say the Regency era [was the sexiest].
“You probably wanted somebody so much, but it would take such an age to actually get to them underneath all the layers of corsets and whale bone.
“If you’re still up for it after that, then you know you fancy that person.
“They may not have had contraception, but they had whale bone, which is enough to put anyone off.”
Amanda recently admitted it is “crazy” how much attention her risqué outfits get.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge is known for wearing revealing outfits on screen, but has described the “hoo-ha” surrounding them as “absolutely ridiculous”.
She recently told The Sun newspaper: “There had always been an amazing appreciation for the female form previously.
The Victorians, I think, were to blame – in their eyes everything became more sexualised than it was meant to be.
“It’s crazy that when you think of the hoo-ha around some of my outfits now, we’re still there. It’s absolutely ridiculous that it’s still going on in an era when we really think that we are ahead of the game.
“But as I always say when we talk about ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, I’m 52 – if they want to still talk about my t*** then bring it on!”

Strictly’s Amy Dowden: It’s really hard to lose hair amid cancer battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Dowden says it’s “really hard” to lose her hair due to chemotherapy.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, admitted she used to have daily “meltdowns” due to the side effects of her illness, like having huge clumps of her tresses fall out when she runs a brush through them, but she “cries less” now.
The 33-year-old professional dancer said on her Instagram Stories: “So many messages asking me how I’m coping with the hair loss and I’m not gonna lie, it is really hard
“I think I cry less now. To begin with, it was every day, but now I have meltdowns when I wash my hair once a week. For the last two weeks now, I haven’t brushed my hair, and that has definitely helped.
“Since I came out of hospital with the blood clots, I stopped brushing it myself because I was just getting distraught seeing how much was falling out.”
Amy revealed how her husband Ben – who she tied the knot with last year – had been doing the honours, so she doesn’t need to “physically” witness her locks come out.
She said: “I obviously am aware of it, but I’m not physically seeing or holding the hair that I’m losing and that for me is helping me big time.”
Amy has been using the mantra “this too shall pass” to endure the tough times.
She said: “If I take my scarf off, you’ll see there’s hardly any [hair left], but it’s OK. I keep telling myself, ‘This too shall pass’.”
The star has been told by the bosses of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition that she can return to the show whenever she is well enough to be back on the dancefloor.

Greatest Hits’ Mike Toolan’s son Luca is cast as Coronation Street bully

OHMYGOSSIP — Greatest Hits’ DJ Mike Toolan’s teenage son Luca has landed a role in ‘Coronation Street’.
The 19-year-old actor admitted his old man was “in complete shock” to hear he had been cast as cobbles bully Mason on the ITV1 soap, and his Grandma, who is a “massive fan” of the long-running show, was also delighted.
Luca said: “First thing I did was rang my dad. I didn’t actually tell anybody about anything, not even the first self-tape, because I’m very superstitious.
“I also didn’t tell him about the screen test so he was surprised. Obviously, he knows I’m into acting, but he was like, ‘What? What do you mean?’
“Because usually I tell him about all my auditions, and this was the first one I didn’t.
“He was just in complete shock. He knows how much of a big deal it is and understands how lucky I am to be in the position that I am. I also rang my Grandma as she is a massive ‘Corrie’ fan, she didn’t believe it and thought I was pulling her leg!”
Luca labelled his character a “bad guy”, and he feels a lot of “responsibility” to do the plot “justice”.
He said: “Well, obviously I had a little bit of insight into the character from the self-tape but all I knew was that he is a bad guy. I found out about the extent of the storyline on my first day through Liam and Charlie, as they were given a lowdown as to what’s happening.
“They told me it was going to get dark. It’s exciting to be here but there’s pressure and responsibility to do this justice.”

Chuck Palahniuk: ‘I wasn’t a big fan of Fight Club’s finale!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Chuck Palahniuk isn’t a “big fan” of the ‘Fight Club’ ending.
The controversial writer’s novel of the same name was made into a film starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton that came out in 1999, with the movie finishing with a huge series of bombs being detonated.
Chuck told Variety when asked if there were any parts of the film adaptation he didn’t understand or that left him surprised: “I wasn’t a big fan of the ticking bomb, that counting down clock near the end.
“And (screenwriter) Jim Uhls stuck it in because there’s obviously such a trope, and I’ve grown to accept that it is a trope.”
Chuck has joked Chinese censorship of the film brought its ending closer to the book.
The movie sees Edward Norton’s insurance assessor character kill off his alter ego played by Brad Pitt, but not before his split personality leads to the detonation of skyscrapers as part of a plot to bring down the capitalist system.
China finally released a version in 2022 that replaced the death and bombs with a huge title card – before Brad’s character Tyler Durden is sent to a psychiatric hospital.
Chuck told TMZ: “The irony is that the way the Chinese have changed it is they’ve aligned the ending almost exactly with the ending of the book, as opposed to (director) David Fincher’s ending, which was the more spectacular visual ending.
“So in a way, the Chinese brought the movie back to the book a little bit.”

Kate Winslet shot new film with three ‘massive hematomas’ on her spine: ‘I could barely stand up!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Winslet struggled through the shooting of her new film with three “massive hematomas” on her spine.
The ‘Titanic’ actress, 47, slipped and injured her back on the first day of making her upcoming film ‘Lee’ about troubled and iconic World War Two photographer Lee Miller.
Kate told Vogue’s October issue about the injury – which came while shooting a sequence when Lee is running down the street in the French city of Saint-Malo while it was under bombardment in 1944: “I had three massive hematomas on my spine, huge. I could barely stand up.”
Despite the massive bruising and swelling, Kate was determined there would be no delays in the filming and pushed on with the schedule despite the pain.
It led to her getting up before 4am, being in hair and makeup by 5am, and on set before 7am.
She added: “I know better than to waste precious energy on criticising my physical self.
“I think any woman is better off just saying: I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think; this is who I am – let’s get on with it.”
Kate also said being an actress pre-#MeToo has toughened her up and left her determined to tell stories that “not just stick in people’s minds but sometimes even ignite debate and make a difference”.
She added in her Vogue chat, which was done before the SAG-AFTRA strike, weathering the entertainment business as a young actress “absolutely toughened me up, but the one thing it gave me, more than anything else, was a profound understanding of what it means to play a character like Lee Miller”.
