Strictly star Johannes Radebe stopped by police: ‘They told me I looked suspicious!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Johannes Radebe was stopped by police because they thought he looked “suspicious”.
The 36-year-old dancer explained that he had been sitting in the car park where he had been sitting after completing a show on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Live tour and was approached by police who claimed he looked like someone they were after.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “A police van pulled up into the parking lot where I was sitting. Two officers got of the car. I said, ‘Mummy, they are walking over to me’. ‘What did you do wrong?’ she asked. I felt stung. ‘Nothing’, I said. When they came over I showed my ID. ‘Is there something wrong?’ I asked one of them. ‘No, you look suspicious and like someone we are looking for’.”
The TV star went on to muse that perhaps the police were just doing what they needed to to get a job done, but admitted that having gone from the highs of performing in an arena in front of thousands, the whole incident felt like a “slap in the face” to him.
He added: “Maybe they were doing their job but the fact I’d just been on stage with thousands of people shouting my name and now I was being approached by police who thought I could be a criminal felt like a slap in the face! Regardless, I wrapped up the tour oozing positive energy!”
Johannes previously claimed that he is constantly stopped by police because of the way he looks.
Speaking on ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’, he said: “I’m going to stop wearing a cap and a black leather jacket. I say that because I get stopped all the time and they go: ‘Oh sorry, it’s not you.’ Police… I’m tall, I’m black. It’s important who you are and what you do and where you hang around.”

Ryan Gosling lined up for Doctor Who role

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Gosling is reportedly being lined up for a ‘Doctor Who’ role.
The 42-year-old actor is known to be a big fan of the BBC sci-fi series and while it is “not clear” what sort of part he could have just yet, an insider has explained that writers are trying to “tailor” a guest character for him to play if he can fit it into his busy schedule.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “This would be a huge coup for the show, but also a real honour for Ryan who is something of a Whovian. It’s not clear yet what role he’d have, but the writers would tailor a character for him to play, if he could find the time in his packed schedule.”
Ryan starred alongside ‘Sex Education’ actor Ncuti Gatwa – who is to take on the title role of The Doctor in the next series – in Greta Gerwig’s box office smash hit ‘Barbie’ and he explained his surprise at learning that the Hollywood superstar was a big fan of the series.
He said: “I remember Ryan Gosling bounding up to my trailer like, ‘Doctor Who is the coolest show in the world man! I’m the biggest fan.’ And I was like, ‘What the hell?’ This show has incredible reach.”
In 2022, Ryan was spotted wearing an unofficial ‘Doctor Who’ t-shirt bearing Ncuti’s face and the snap prompted a public response showrunner Russell T Davies, who joked that he would be suing him over the “illegal” piece of merchandise.
He wrote on Instagram: “This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch #rulesarerules”

‘Just respect for a master’: Guillermo del Toro wants cinema release for William Friedkin’s last film

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo del Toro is determined to land a cinematic release for William Friedkin’s final movie ‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial’.
The 58-year-old filmmaker served as an assistant director on the legal drama that is set for release on the streaming service Paramount+ next month but feels it should be shown in cinemas in honour of Friedkin – who died at the age of 87 last month.
Del Toro tweeted: “I know it’s not the ‘model’ for a streamer but this is Friedkin’s final film. Can we get a theatrical run?
“No matter if it’s a limited one. Just respect for a master.”
The movie’s producer Annabelle Dunne says it was a “joy” to have the ‘Hellboy’ director on set – particularly as Friedkin required a back-up director in order to get the project financed.
She said: “It was a joy for all of us, including the actors, to have his presence there. He made it abundantly clear it was Billy’s movie.”
‘The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial’ premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week and filmmaker Damien Chazelle – who is presiding over this year’s jury at the festival – paid a moving tribute to Friedkin.
The ‘Babylon’ director said: “When I first became aware of the name Billy Friedkin I was a child, and the name itself filled me with fear.
“I probably had ‘The Exorcist’ in my mind. I hadn’t seen the film yet, but I’d seen the letters written in that typeface, and the sound of the word ‘Fried-kin’ seemed to suggest to me the darkest, most forbidden recesses of the imagination. The kind of things that inspire nightmares for the rest of your life.
“So to me William Friedkin meant fear. But today I think of his name, and I think of love. I think of love of cinema, love of all art, and a vision of how the arts can intersect and inform each other. A vision of cinema that is not separate, but inextricably linked to music, to literature, to painting. Of course, to opera.”

‘I don’t think you’re ever the first choice’: Sir Ian McKellen almost missed out on The Lord of the Rings

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ian McKellen nearly missed out on the role of Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
The legendary actor has revealed that he was not the first choice to play the wizard in the fantasy franchise and only landed the part because Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Sean Connery rejected the opportunity.
Ian told Variety: “I don’t think you’re ever the first choice, I certainly wasn’t the first choice for Gandalf.
“Tony Hopkins turned it down. Sean Connery certainly did. They’re all coming out of the woodwork now, and I hope they feel silly.”
McKellen’s latest role is the acerbic theatre reviewer Jimmy Erskine in ‘The Critic’ and the six-time Olivier Award winner relished playing an antagonistic character.
The 84-year-old star said: “Often the devil has the best tunes and the best lines, and it’s fun to play an outrageous man who clearly has some emotional problems.”
‘The Critic’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday (07.09.23) and Ian is hopeful that a studio will acquire the picture – which also features Gemma Arterton and Mark Strong.
The ‘X-Men’ actor said: “It was an intriguing script, tending toward melodrama. If the audience doesn’t believe in what we’re doing, then they might find some of the action a bit overwrought. It was a tricky balance to strike.”
McKellen’s celebrated career has spanned over six decades but he does not have a technique to prepare himself for roles on both screen and stage.
He explained: “I didn’t go to drama school. I’ve often wished that I did have a foolproof approach to how to prepare. Each play or movie stands by itself for me.
“And every time I begin with this terror of just, ‘Here we go again, making the same mistakes.'”

EastEnders star suffers verbal abuse in public: ‘They called me a nonce!’

OHMYGOSSIP — William Ellis gets “strange looks” in public after joining ‘EastEnders’.
The 41-year-old actor plays teacher Theo Hawthorne in the BBC One soap opera and his character has become a stalker towards Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) but explained that fans are so invested in the series that they believe it is real and he has sometimes suffered verbal abuse when spotted.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “People think it’s real and EastEnders is in some people’s living rooms for two hours a week, so you do get strange looks.
“I was on a flight the other week and I got called a nonce by a group of people who had obviously been watching. It was friendly . . . I chat to fans and they say ‘Have you been teaching today?’ People really live for this imagined reality and it becomes their own reality.”
The actor – who had made guest appearances in shows like ‘The Bill’, ‘Doctors’ and ‘The Crown’ before joining ‘EastEnders’ – added that his sudden soap fame had been a “shock to the system” because people on the streets would automatically see the character as opposed to his natural self.
He added: “It’s been a bit of a shock to the system that people see that character in you as you’re walking down the street.”
William previously admitted that he was only meant to be in the show for a handful of episodes and felt “overwhelmed” to have landed a more regular role.
Speaking on the ‘Check It TV’ podcast, he said: “It’s slightly overwhelming. The inception of the role started differently. I was given a call to take a role of what was then three or four episodes and then quite quickly, that became a lot more. My lovely agent had said that if the writers enjoy writing for you, then I might end up in it for a little while. So that’s kind of what happened. It wasn’t by design, I didn’t go in knowing what it was going to happen. It was a huge honour though, the show is so canonised into British culture.”

TOWIE star Dan Edgar speaks out on split from Amber Turner: ‘There are always rumours!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Edgar tried to “make things work” with Amber Turner.
The 33-year-old reality star had dated ‘TOWIE’ co-star for six years when they called it a day earlier this year and has now explained that there was “no way forward” for them but insists they have been “amicable” ever since.
”There have been things that haven’t been right for a long time. We tried it and at the end of the day it didn’t work. There were a lot of changes I tried to make stuff I was making an effort with. It’s easy on the surface to look at things and think, ‘Everything looks fine,’ but there was a lot going on behind the scenes.
There was no way forward for us. I’m 33 now, it’s not an age where you just see how it goes. Me and Amber have been together and we’ve been on and off. We’ve tried things and gone through a lot of trials and tribulations over the years. In the end it just hasn’t worked. So, you move on. It’s life. It is what it is.
“We’ve been amicable so far. I’ve moved out of the house. It’s never easy going through a break-up, especially after five years. We’re at the stage now where we’re talking normally as adults about what we’re doing about it. We have the dog [Oliver] and we were living together – but at the end of day we haven’t got kids. We’re not married. It’s not as messy as it could be. . There was a lot of trying to make things work. ”
Dan went on to quash rumours that Amber had been unfaithful to him but insisted that the pair had simply realised that they had no future together in terms of marriage or children.
He said: “There are always rumours. There have been rumours about me in the past. Our relationship hasn’t come to an end because of rumours about who done what. We both got to the important stage of, “Are you going to be the person I marry and have kids with?” But that was not going to happen with us. You can’t waste time at this age. ”

Amy Walsh had to ‘mother’ Love Island star Luca Bish on Celebrity MasterChef: ‘He’s like a child!

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Walsh “mothered” Luca Bish on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.
The 36-year-old actress appeared on the BBC culinary series and ended up becoming something of a mentor to former ‘Love Island’ star Luca, 24, as she noted that they formed an “unlikely friendship” on the set of the show.
She said: I mothered him like an idiot. I was crying when he was getting good feedback. That one was a really unlikely friendship – we really got on. He took the mick out of me the whole time but he was the energy I needed.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actress was also joined by opera singer Wynne Evans – who is best known for starring in the GoCompare adverts – and he joked that reality star Luca is “like a child” and despite being the oldest, he ended up “reverting” back to being a child when he was around him.
He said: “Luca’s like a child, and I was the oldest in the semi-finals, but he did make me laugh! I just revert back to being a child when I’m around him!”
Luca – who coupled up with Gemma Owen on ‘Love Island’ – explained that the “highest moment” was when he first walked onto the set with “so many talented people” when he had simply spent the last two months on a beach.
He said: “The highest moment was when ‘MasterChef’ wanted me on, and then walking in that room with so many talented people after I’ve just laid on a beach for the last eight weeks! It’s a reality check. I’m really happy to be in the presence of such talented people.”
The trio is the last three from the 20 celebrities who started out on this year’s BBC show, having fought off competition from the likes of 90s pop star Sam Fox, drag queen Cheryl Hole, former ‘Loose Women’ panellist Jamelia, and The Wanted singer Max George.
The final of ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ 2023 airs on BBC One on Friday 8 September at 9pm.

Craig Doyle speaks out about This Morning co-star Holly Willoughby: ‘People need to realise this!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Doyle has hailed Holly Willoughby as one of the “best” people he has ever worked with.
The 52-year-old presenter is one of a handful of hosts to have taken over from Phillip Schofield on the ITV1 daytime show as he joined regular star Holly, 42, on a rotational basis and has now claimed that Phil’s former co-host is one of the “greatest of all time” in television.
Speaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast, he told former ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kate Thornton: “I’m really enjoying it. I’ve been in and out of there for about a year and then obviously what happened happened before the summer and I was able to just kind of help them out on that front.
“I probably enjoyed it more than – well, I hadn’t really considered what it would be like but it’s great fun and it feels like proper old-school telly. Do you know what I mean? And it’s very welcoming, brilliant production team.
“I love Holly. Holly Willoughby is an absolute G.O.A.T. She’s a very lovely, lovely, human being, and people need to realise that. She’s unbelievable. One of the best I’ve ever worked with. Ever.”
Craig admitted that he didn’t really know Holly – who began presenting ‘This Morning’ in 2009 – before joining the show but described her as a “wonderful, kind” person.
He said: “I didn’t know Holly beforehand. I’d never met her once or twice but I don’t really mix in any circles, I had no pre-judgment. Nothing. I went in there and I only ever judge people by how they behave whilst they’re in front of me. I don’t care about anything else. I can spot an a******** from a distance. She is a wonderful person. A really, really kind lovely person.
Meanwhile, the former BBC Sports host admitted that it was a surprise when the call came for him to join ‘This Morning’ because he has often been considered “not famous enough” for various presenting gigs but finally feels as if he is in fact “enough” in showbusiness these days.
He said: “I didn’t expect it. I feel like I’m on my second – if not third – lap of this business. I’ve had it reported back to me when gigs come up and they say ‘Yeah, I like Craig, but he’s just not famous enough. He’s not showbiz enough, or he’s not showbiz enough’.
“It’s so nice to be enough. To quote Ken from ‘Barbie’. It’s nice to be enough. ”

Olly Murs ‘gutted’ after losing presenting gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs is “gutted” that ‘Starstruck’ has been cancelled.
The 39-year-old pop star served as host of the talent show that saw judges Beverley Knight, Jason Manford, Shania Twain, and Adam Lambert critique groups of performers impersonating well-known artists but admitted the show just “didn’t work” in terms of commercial success.
He told The Sun: “Presenting is something I have always loved doing. ‘Starstruck’ was amazing but that isn’t coming back.
“I am gutted it is such a great show. In this game, things change so quickly. The ratings did really well but in terms of money and stuff like that, it just didn’t work.”
Reports previously suggested that there had been plans to film a third series of the show – which was inspired by the format of ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ – but the whole show was scrapped before such plans could come to fruition.
Meanwhile, ‘Troublemaker’ singer Olly initially found fame when he placed second on the 2009 series of ‘The X Factor’ before going on to serve as a coach on ‘The Voice’ and appeared to back a return of the show that brought him success in the first place.
He said: “I love any show that gives people a crack at this industry. If it wasn’t for that show I wouldn’t be here!”
Olly went on to add that he is still great friends with music mogul and ‘The X Factor’ boss Simon Cowell and championed the idea of finding talent through the medium of reality TV because there are “so many voices” that need to be given such a wide platform.
He added: “Me and Simon are great, it’s been a long time. Whether it’s ‘The X Factor’ or ‘The Voice’, there are so many voices that need to be heard. Working on ‘The Voice’ for me has always been an honour.”

Anton Du Beke: ‘I want to be the best I can be on Strictly!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke wants to be the “best judge [he] can be” on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 57-year-old star initially served as a professional on of the BBC One Latin and Ballroom competition and danced with the likes of ‘Loose Women’ star Ruth Langsford and ‘EastEnders actress Emma Barton over the years but has been on the panel alongside Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, and Motsi Mabuse since 2021, and ahead of the launch of the new series on 16 September, explained that he doesn’t want anyone to think he is not putting the effort in.
He told The Daily Express’ Saturday Magazine: “I feel as determined about this as I did when I was competing and trying to win. I am trying to be the best I can be. I don’t want anyone to ever think I wasn’t trying my best- that makes me feel a bit sick!”
The dance champion went on to add that despite his long run on the show, he has often been unable to correctly guess which celebrity will lift the Glitterball Trophy in the end.
He said: “I’ve felt the same about it since day one. I’ve always loved it.” I didn’t pick Hamza (Yassin – 2022 champion) to win early doors. He grew into it. I didn’t pick Stacey (Dooley-2018 champion), she was a grower. I rarely pick the winner early doors.”
This year’s lineup of the Saturday night favourite includes TV legend Les Dennis, former ‘Coronation Street’ star Ellie Leach and broadcaster Angela Rippon, who at the age of 78 is the oldest contestant in the history of the show.
But Anton explained that the upcoming series has “something for everyone” and isn’t that age “doesn’t hold anyone back” as he recalled dancing with ‘Birds of a Feather’ star Lesley Joseph, who was 71 years old when she appeared on the show.
He said: “It’s got something for everyone. We’ve covered the whole spectrum. You’ve got 20-something then the wonderful Angela Rippon. Lesley was in her seventies and was the quickest person I’ve ever danced with to pick up a routine and the oldest person I ever danced with Age doesn’t hold you back!”

Anna Kendrick ‘heartbroken’ to have missed movie premiere

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Kendrick is “heartbroken” to have missed the premiere of her directorial debut.
The 38-year-old actress is at the helm of the new movie ‘Woman of the Hour’ but missed the first showing of the drama film at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday (08.09.23) to show her solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA strike and explained that she is still “proud” of what she has achieved.
She said in a statement: “[This] film festival has proven time and time again that it is an artist-driven festival, and it has been my absolute honor to have TIFF as part of my career for the last 14 years. “I truly can’t express how proud I am to have the world premiere of Woman of the Hour at TIFF. It is more than a dream come true. I am heartbroken to not be with you all in this moment.”
The ‘Into the Woods’ star went on to add that she “wished” she could be there at the premiere of her film but at the same time remained “proud” to stand with her union as they fight for “fair wages.”
She said: “I so wish they could be there to be celebrated in the way they richly deserve. As proud as we are of this film, we are equally proud to stand with our union in demanding fair wages.
The strike has caused the biggest shutdown in Hollywood for more than 60 years because the Writers Guild Strike is also on strike, which means that the majority of entertainment projects in the US have been forced to cease production.
Fran Drescher, the president of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, or SAG-AFTRA, said in a press conference: “At some point, you have to say no: ‘We are not going to take this anymore!’ You cannot change the business model as much as it has changed and not change the contract too. If we don’t stand tall right now, we are all in trouble.”

My Animal director reveals ‘instant connection’ to script of upcoming horror

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Castel felt an “instant connection” to ‘My Animal’ when she read the script.
The French director is at the helm of the upcoming horror movie – which follows a woman who is forced by her overbearing parents to keep her lycanthropy a secret, until she begins to fall in love with a figure skater – explained that when she read Jae Matthews’ screenplay allowed her to bring the werewolf genre to the screen in a whole new way.
She told MovieWeb: “I felt instantly connected to the world and the universe and the characters that Jae was building. I saw a lot of potential because I found it really interesting to explore the werewolf genre in a way that I didn’t think had been done before.”
Jacqueline added that she “loves” the sound of an ice rink and explained the challnges of getting the sounds associated with one into the camera and onto the screen.
She said: “I love the sounds of an arena, too. I love the tactile aspect of it, how sound ricochets across the room, which made it technically challenging with some of the stuff we had to shoot because everything was just bouncing off the walls all the time, but I loved the way it sounded. There’s something [about the arena] so nestled in childhood and what it conjures when you really feel it or hear it or see it in a certain way.” It’s no wonder, then, that some of the most important moments in Heather’s life — realizing her love of hockey, meeting Jonny, etc. — happen in the arena.
“It’s like you’re at some ancient Roman site, when you think about how that’s what this is all built around. It’s its own universe, which is pretty cool.”

Hollywood director reveals how he always knew Amanda Seyfried was a ‘remarkable actress’

OHMYGOSSIP — Atom Egoyan knew Amanda Seyfried was a “remarkable young actress” when he first met her.
The 63-year-old filmmaker has reunited with ‘Mamma Mia!’ star Amanda, 37, for new film ‘Seven Veils’ after initially working with her on the erotic thriller ‘Chloe’ in 2009 and recalled spotting her talent then.
He told ScreenRant: “‘Chloe’ is in itself a remake, and it was a project that I was really excited to direct, but it wasn’t my script. I didn’t have the same freedoms that I have when I’m doing my own script and my own production. But I certainly had access the moment Amanda walked into that audition for ‘Chloe’. This is a remarkable young actress who just was so emotionally available.”
For the upcoming movie, Amanda plays a theatre director who is dealing with repressed trauma as she prepares to mount a production of the opera ‘Salome’ and Atom went on to add that the project has taken 15 years in total to complete.
He added: “I would say that the only similarity in terms of the characters is that there’s something that both characters feel that they deserve to have, which is withheld from them. Seeing her negotiate that in Chloe was really so true. Every moment in that there was a lot of formula and cliches in that film, but she made it all very real and true, and we had a great experience making it. And so we promised we would find something else. But it took this long, really, it’s been 15 years, but I began to think of Jeanine. It’s just like she felt like, ‘Okay, this is the project we can do again together.'”

Amanda Holden: ‘If you want to talk about my t**s, bring it on!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden thinks it is “crazy” how much attention her risqué outfits get.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge, 52, is known for wearing revealing outfits on screen but has described the “hoo-ha” surrounding them as “absolutely ridiculous” as she mused that the female form was appreciated in centuries gone by.
She told The Sun newspaper: “There had always been an amazing appreciation for the female form previously.
The Victorians, I think, were to blame — in their eyes everything became more sexualised than it was meant to be.
“It’s crazy that when you think of the hoo-ha around some of my outfits now, we’re still there. It’s ¬absolutely ridiculous that it’s still going on in an era when we really think that we are ahead of the game.
“But as I always say when we talk about ‘Britain’s Got Talent, I’m 52 — if they want to still talk about my t*ts then bring it on!”
The TV star – who has in the past garnered Ofcom complaints over her revealing outfits – has now made ‘Sex: A Bonkers History’ with Dan Jones for Sky History and even posed for a painting in the nude but insisted it is only for the eyes of her husband Chris Hughes.
She added: “My husband Chris now has the painting, but no one else will ever see it, including the television audience.
“But it felt liberating to pose naked. Certain areas were covered up, but I suppose it is like doing their equivalent of Playboy or something like that, then keeping it private for the ¬person you love most.
“It was a female artist, and we had a closed set, so it just felt absolutely fine.
“And it was only my boobs that were out. I felt looked after and completely comfortable.
I don’t feel uncomfortable being naked, but I think if I’d been in a room full of people, I wouldn’t have done it. But we were all very well looked after, and it was very discreet.
“I didn’t want to show the finished painting to the television audience only because of the reaction it would get.”

Carol Vorderman doesn’t invite her ‘special friends’ to her house: ‘I’m not dumb!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman doesn’t invite her “special friends” to her house.
The 62-year-old TV star – who has children Katie, 32, and Cameron, 26, with ex-husband Patrick King, but was also previously married to Christopher Mather – revealed last year that she has a circle of “special friends” as opposed to looking for one person to “fulfil all [her] needs” but has now explained that she always goes to them and she often gets requests from men wanting to be in on the arrangement.
She told The Times Magazine: “They never come to my house. I’m not dumb! A lot of men ask me if they can be my special friend and I have to say, it doesn’t work like that!”
The former ‘Countdown’ host – who has previously insisted that everyone in the arrangement is single – went on to add that her fellow divorcees all “feel the same” when it comes to the idea of not seeking another full-time monogamous relationship.
She added: “My women friends who are divorced or widowed feel the same. We’d only end up having to do the caring. I’ve nothing to apologise for, so live without apology.”
Towards the end of last year, the former ‘Loose Women’ anchor explained that she has “ignored” the societal construct of monogamy because she believes it is “unrealistic” to expect one person to fulfil every need of another.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she said: “I’m nearly 62 now and our mothers told us that we should marry when we were 18 or 19 years of age, so we grew up with this convention that we should find one partner for life and all the good fairy tales tell you that they married and lived happily ever after.
“My view is not quite like that. If people do have a very happy and long marriage, that is wonderful. Congratulations. But the fact is that half of marriages in divorce and almost three-quarters of marriage end in divorce. So I prefer to live my life – and people should speak about it in this way – in chapters. You try to have happy chapters and I think that’s what you’re looking for next.
“I have ignored looking for one person. I have special friends. It’s not realistic to expect one person to fulfil all your needs. The younger generation has a much freer approach to sexuality.”
