Irish singing superstar desperate for Coronation Street cameo

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel O’Donnell wants a role in ‘Coronation Street’.
The 61-year-old crooner is a huge fan of the ITV soap and would love to walk the famous cobbles, even if it was just a cameo role, and he’d be equally happy playing either himself or a new character.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “Going on ‘Coronation Street’ is a pipe dream.
“I would take a cameo. I’ve always watched Coronation Street and it is my favourite soap on the TV. I’ve met Charlie Lawson (who played Jim McDonald).
“I’ve met a few of the ‘Coronation Street’ and I went a couple of times to the set in Manchester.
“I would take any role – as a singer or a cameo – it doesn’t really matter to me.”
While Daniel has yet to be offered a role on ‘Corrie’, perhaps he could get involved in an open mic night at the Rovers Return, which was previously suggested by series producer Iain MacLeod after Bob Dylan revealed himself to be a fan of the soap.
Ian told the Daily Telegraph newspaper last December: “To hear that Bob Dylan is a Coronation Street viewer blows my mind.
“I would absolutely love the idea of him turning up in the Rovers Return one night.
“Maybe we could write in an open mic night and a mysterious singer could roll in out of the Manchester rain and do a turn.
“I think Ken would certainly be a fan. Rita is also no stranger to a musical number, so perhaps a duet could be on the cards.
“Both he and ‘Coronation Street’ established their reputations in the 1960s, both have championed working-class voices and causes, both tell stories with a particular sensibility and sense of humour.”
Iain’s comments came after Bob admitted he loves to binge ‘Coronation Street’, and he also enjoys watching ‘Father Brown’, a series about a fictional Roman Catholic priest and amateur detective.
He said: “I recently binged: ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Father Brown’ and some early ‘Twilight Zones’. (sic)”
Bob – who was born in Minnesota, US – admits the programmes make him feel “at home”, and he much prefers to watch the likes of ‘Corrie’ and ‘Father Brown’, which features ‘Harry Potter’ star Mark Williams as the titular character, than tune into “foul-smelling or evil” shows.
He added to The Wall Street Journal newspaper: “I know they’re old-fashioned, but they make me feel at home.
“I’m no fan of packaged programs or news shows. I never watch anything foul-smelling or evil. Nothing disgusting, nothing dog a**.”

‘It’s worth seeing a couple times’: Linklater praises Barbie

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Linklater has urged people to see ‘Barbie’ multiple times.
The ‘Dazed and Confused’ director was a big fan of Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking movie – which starred Margot Robbie in the title role opposite Ryan Gosling as Ken – and thinks the hype surrounding that and the release of ‘Oppenheimer’ at the same time was great for the movie industry.
He told NME: “I liked the musical numbers. I liked the movie a lot. It’s worth seeing a couple times. The best thing that happened to cinema in a while is ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie.’ Sends a good message.”
Though the 63-year-old filmmaker is “glad those [movies] are doing well”, he insisted he isn’t looking to make films on such a huge scale.
He said: “It’s all about the journey, not the destination, as they say.
“Why take a trip? Because you want to have an experience. You don’t know what exactly, but you feel compelled to travel.
“So it’s the same thing [when] you go to make a movie. It’s like, ‘I don’t know how this is going to go, but I feel compelled to try to have this experience.’”
Richard is currently working on ‘Merrily We Roll Along’, which, like his 2014 movie ‘Boyhood’, will be filmed over the course of several years in an attempt to capturing ageing in real time.
Production is currently on hold because of the Hollywood strikes and though the director is “proud” to be supporting the action, he is hopeful it will be resolved.
He said: “Everyone’s feeling it, I think no one’s happy. But that’s kind of the problem. When you’re in an industry and no one’s happy, maybe it’s time to recalibrate and come forward with some things that could be fair to everyone. I think something’s gotta give.
“I’m not really in the middle of it so much. I’m on strike, I’m a proud union member. But I think it will be resolved. It’s kind of one of those crucial moments.”
‘Merrily We Roll Along’ has a planned release date of 2039.

Gogglebox star Stephen Webb ‘joins Dancing on Ice’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has reportedly signed up to appear in the new series of ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The hair salon owner-turned-reality TV star announced his departure from the Channel 4 series last month after spending a decade on the sofa watching TV in front of the cameras – but The Sun newspaper now report he’s going be getting his skates on to join the ITV talent show when it returns to screens in the new year.
A source told the publication: “Many [‘Gogglebox’ stars] develop profiles in their own right and inevitably receive offers to appear on other shows.
“If they do go on other things they are making official their transition to celebrity, and Gogglebox reviewers are meant to be regular members of the public.
“Stephen had very much developed his own profile. It wasn’t a surprise he received other offers, though no one would have necessarily guessed he’d be doing ‘Dancing On Ice’.”
Stephen and his partner Daniel Lustig recently confirmed their exit from ‘Gogglebox’ explaining they had decided to bow out so they could pursue other opportunities.
In a joint statement posted on Instagram, the couple explained: “We feel like the time is right to move on and explore new opportunities. We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be part of this amazing, funny and heartwarming show.
“We are also extremely thankful to the cast and crew, our ‘Gogglebox’ family as we call them and of course the fans, thank you for all your love and support over the years.”
Production company Studio Lambert and Channel 4 added in a statement: “After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided that now is the right time to explore life beyond the sofa and leave the show.
“As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his hilarious quips since the show first started in 2013, sharing his opinions on the best and biggest TV events of the last 10 years.
“We would like to thank him and Daniel for being utterly brilliant contributors to the show, and we wish them well with their future projects.”
‘Dancing on Ice’ will be back on TV early next year and rumoured contestants including S Club star Hannah Spearritt.

Tim Burton had a day left filming Beetlejuice 2 before strike hit

OHMYGOSSIP — Tim Burton had a “day and a half” left filming ‘Beetlejuice 2’ before the shoot was closed down due to the Hollywood strikes.
The moviemaker has opened up about work on the sequel to his 1998 horror comedy – which starred Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton – revealing production was almost complete when they had to shut down due to the SAG-AFTRA actors union joining the Writers Guild of America in an industry-wide walk-out in July.
He told the British Film Institute: “We had a day and a half left before the strike happened. I feel lucky that we got as far as we did. It is like 98, 99 per cent done. It was a great experience. It reinvigorated my love of making movies.”
The new film reunites former castmembers Keaton and Ryder, and Burton says it was a joy to pick up the story again. He went on: “It’s so weird because I don’t overly keep in contact with people, but this was very special, because obviously the sequel had been talked about for 35 years. I truly never quite understood the success of the first one. It’s one of life’s beautiful mysteries.
“When I did this one, I didn’t look at the first movie, because it didn’t feel like it would help. I treated it just very much as a project where, after 35 years, the anchor for me is what happened to [the characters] … So that anchored the emotion and the feeling, then working with Michael and Winona and Catherine, and also with Jenna [Ortega] and having these new people, all this beautiful new blood into it … Working with these people again, and seeing them all, it was very emotional for me. Again, just going back to the old, same puppets and techniques. It goes back to the good old days.”

Jason Fox marries girlfriend Jules Hawkins

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Fox is a married man after tying the knot with his girlfriend Jules Hawkins.
The ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’ star has revealed he exchanged vows with his longtime partner at an intimate ceremony in London with the ceremony taking place at Old Marylebone Town Hall ahead of a reception at La Goccia Italian restaurant in Covent Garden.
Jason, 47, confirmed the happy news in a post on Instagram, writing: “It’s official! The knot has been tied and I’m a lucky man! What a day! Big up all our guests and @lagocciacoventgarden more spam to follow.”
The groom wore a green suit and documentary-maker Jules wore a white mini-dress with feather trim.
After posting his wedding news on Instagram, the couple were flooded with messages of congratulations from friends including the TV personality’s ‘Who Dares Wins’ co-star Rudy Reyes.
Rudy wrote: “Brother these are Fantastic … So proud to know U n The Missus. U make My life better for it. To many amazing adventures ahead My Man.”
It’s Jason’s third trip down the aisle. His second marriage was to Lucy Culkin in 2011 and they welcomed a daughter named Honor a year later before splitting. He’s also believed to have another daughter from his first marriage.
Jason has previously admitted his time in the military – and the years he spent adjusting to civilian life afterwards – took a toll on his mental health and his relationships.
He told Ladbible.com: “I’ve got two marriages that have gone down the pan – I like to attribute it to the military life but then I look at the common denominator which is me … It’s probably because I’m a nightmare to live with.”
Jason added he’s determined to life in the moment instead of worrying about the past. He said: “I don’t worry about what’s happened and I don’t worry about what’s coming. I think about what’s coming, and I plan but I’m not governed and don’t think something has to go a certain way because if it doesn’t you’ll freak out, now I’m like ‘well that would be great if that happened, but if it doesn’t happen we’ll just roll with the punches'”

Matt Hancock admits SAS: Who Dares Wins ‘tested his resilience’

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Hancock pushed himself to his “limits” on ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The 44-year-old politician filmed the show in the jungles of north Vietnam and admits that it was one of the most challenging experiences of his life.
Matt told The Sun newspaper: “I wanted to do it to test my limits.
“I’d just come through a pretty tough period being the health secretary in the pandemic and I wanted to push my limits in terms of resilience and physically. ‘Hit me in the face’.
“I took the attitude that you must absolutely throw yourself at what’s in front of you.
“You can’t hide your personality. There’s nothing to hide behind. So I wanted people to see that.
“People had seen me in the pandemic in a particular box and in a particular way, and had a view, and I’d rather people saw the real me.”
Matt – who served as the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care during the COVID-19 pandemic – admits that the experience really changed him.
The challenge also prompted Matt to reconsider his political career.
Matt – who got trench foot during his time in the jungle – shared: “I left behind some of the shackles of political life through the course.
“Having been in a highly controlled media environment in government, you’re really clear about the message you’re trying to put across, and having been trained in message discipline, there are big downsides to that that I don’t like.
“So going on ‘SAS’ was just being me. I think I said at one point, I still remember saying it because it felt so true, I went in as a politician and I came out as a human being.
“It’s safe to say the course tested my resilience.”

Maura Higgins: I’m a bit old for Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins thinks she’s a “bit old” to return to ‘Love Island’.
The 32-year-old beauty appeared on the show back in 2019 and although she’s been tipped to appear on a ‘Love Island: All Stars’ series, Maura insists she isn’t keen on the idea.
The brunette beauty told her Instagram followers: “I’m never going to go back on to ‘Love Island’. Like, not because I didn’t enjoy myself, it was such an incredible experience, it changed my life, it gave me the platform I have today … but I feel like I’ve done it once and I think once is enough and I’m a bit old for that.”
Maura is happy with where she’s currently at in her career.
Despite this, Maura can understand why some of her former co-stars might be tempted to return to the show.
She said: “I’m not going to go back on the show. I feel like I’m really enjoying what I’m doing … I just don’t really want to go backwards, I want to look forward.
“Like, I’m not saying anything bad about people that would do it again but like each to their own – but yeah, just not me.”
‘Love Island: All Stars’ is set to air next year and Mike Spencer, the boss of ‘Love Island’s production company, Lifted Entertainment, has already described the show as “a must-watch series”.
He recently said: “It has been rumoured now for a while but we are thrilled to finally confirm that we are making Love Island: All Stars early next year for ITV2 and ITVX.
“It’s set to be a must-watch series seeing some of your favourite Islanders from across the years heading back to the stunning South African villa to once again ‘graft’ as their search for love continues. I simply can’t wait.”

‘He wasn’t a traditional handsome guy’: James Bond director Martin Campbell was concerned about Daniel Craig playing 007

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Campbell was unconvinced by Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond.
The 79-year-old filmmaker helmed ‘Casino Royale’ – Daniel’s first movie as 007 – but was hesitant to cast the star as the iconic spy as he was “tougher and ruggeder” than predecessors such as Sir Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.
Campbell told The Express: “My only reticence with Daniel… he was a really superb actor, there’s no doubt about that… it was the fact that with people like Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan was that they were all traditional looking Bonds. All handsome guys, all sexy, all very attractive to women and so forth.
“Daniel was obviously tougher and ruggeder, but he wasn’t a traditional handsome guy. So I just thought about that for a minute and apart from that, absolutely it was always him.”
Craig, 55, bowed out as Bond in the 2021 film ‘No Time to Die’ and Martin gave a glimpse into the “democratic” process that 007 bosses will use to decide who succeeds the actor in the world-famous role.
The ‘GoldenEye’ director said: “The way they work with Bond and it’s pretty terrific is when they decide on the actor and you audition – in our case, it was eight people – it’s very democratic. You sit around a table, eight or nine of you.
“It was myself and the producers, casting director etc etc. And you go through the eight people and you put your hand up as you talk through each person and ultimately everybody has to be unanimous in their decision, if you see what I mean.”

Time Team to conduct Durotriges tribe dig

OHMYGOSSIP — The Time Team is investigating the Durotriges tribe to learn more about how the Iron Age and the transition to Roman Britain.
The site was put forward by Time Team’s own Dr Derek Pitman and Dr Lawrence Shaw. Working together with Harry Manley of Bournemouth University, a single test trench uncovered over 1,000 years of history, bridging the transition between the two eras.
During the Iron Age, some 2,000 years ago, the area was home to the Durotriges tribe, and this site offers excellent opportunities to investigate how they lived and died. Early evidence indicates industrial activity, several phases of settlement and even burials – an extremely rare find for this period in British history.
The site is a stone’s throw from Poole’s ancient industrial harbour at Green Island – the subject of a previous investigation by Time Team, almost 20 years ago.
This new excavation seeks to explore possible links between the harbour, and this site, which sits just inland in a strategic position within the landscape.
Dr Pitman said: “As a Dorset boy, I’m thrilled to welcome Time Team to my turf, for what looks to be an incredible weekend. I’ve honestly never seen so much archaeology in a single trench before, and we think this is just the tip of something much bigger. We’re in for a treat!”
The excavation coincides with the 30th anniversary of filming Time Team’s first episode, back in 1993, which aired the following year.
Time Team’s creator and Series Producer Tim Taylor said: “We couldn’t hope for a better site to celebrate three decades of Time Team. I still can’t believe it’s been that long, but here’s to the next 30 years!”
The British archaeology programme originally aired on Channel 4 from 1994 to September 2014 and was presented by ‘Blackadder’ star Sir Tony Robinson and each episode featured a team of specialists carrying out an archaeological dig over a period of three days.
The show has been revived online on YouTube and the Patreon subscription platform.
For the upcoming dig – which takes place this weekend (September 15 to September 17) – many familiar faces are returning, including presenter Dr Gus Casely-Hayford, Prof Carenza Lewis, Dr John Gater, Prof Stewart Ainsworth and Dr Helen Geake. Guests for the weekend include old Time Team friends Dr Philippa Walton and Dr Miles Russell.
Throughout the investigation subscribers to Patreon will enjoy exclusive daily updates direct from the site via ‘Dig Watch’. These include site tours, question and answer sessions with the team and production insights from the crew. The completed episode will premiere worldwide on YouTube at a later date.
Taylor said: “It’s thanks to our wonderful Patreon members across the globe that Time Team can investigate fascinating sites like this. I can’t wait to see what comes up in Dig Watch!”

‘I just wrote about what I knew’: Sylvester Stallone on the making of Rocky

OHMYGOSSIP — Sylvester Stallone “just wrote about what (he) knew” when making ‘Rocky’.
The 77-year-old star penned the script for the 1976 film – which spawned the iconic franchise featuring Sly as Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa – and used his own life as inspiration during his initial ideas for the character.
Speaking at Toronto International Film Festival, Stallone said: “I just wrote about what I knew. I was writing a lot about this little kind of mentally challenged guy who happened to have a lot of heart.
“I wanted to write a movie about a guy who says, ‘I’m not great at all, never will be. I fight great fighters. But I just want the opportunity to go the distance.'”
Sly penned the screenplay for ‘Rocky’ in just three days but was disappointed that Hollywood executives showed little interest in the project at first.
He said: “Nobody wanted to make it. It was my best writing too.”
Stallone is known for his action roles in franchises such as ‘Rambo’ and ‘Rocky’ and is aware that he did not have the ability to be a “Shakespearean actor”.
He explained: “I didn’t have the bones to be a Shakespearean actor. It’s important as an artist to know what your strengths are, but more important to know your weaknesses.”
The ‘Cliffhanger’ actor previously admitted to being in a three-day “fury” when he collaborated with producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff to get ‘Rocky’ on the big screen.
Stallone recalled to GQ magazine: “I had this opportunity with Chartoff and Winkler, and I wasn’t going to let it slip by.
“I was young, and I had an incredible amount of energy, and I wrote it in a fury. I was very excited about the whole thing. I had a feel for the streets, and I loved films like ‘Mean Streets’, and ‘Marty’, and ‘On The Waterfront’, and I felt inspired.”

‘She’s just brilliant’: The End We Start From director Mahalia Belo lavishes praise on Jodie Comer

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The End We Start From’ director Mahalia Belo has lauded Jodie Comer’s “courageous” acting.
The director has helmed the new survival film – which features the ‘Killing Eve’ star as a mother who flees flooded London with her baby after an environmental disaster – and was impressed by the clever methods Jodie used to bring her character to life and the way she placed her trust in those behind the camera.
Belo told Collider at the Toronto International Film Festival: “The way she deals with every scene and the babies, she’s just brilliant. She carried this character completely and so beautifully.
“She was a partner in this whole process, from beginning to end, and journeyed with me through the whole thing.”
Belo was particularly impressed by Comer’s acting in scenes that required improvisation as she filmed with the baby.
The director explained: “So, if the baby was doing something she would naturally react to the baby. But also, there’s a gutsiness to what she does. In this film, she had to go places, and she wanted to do that. I think sometimes that kind of tenacity as an actor is being incredibly brave.”
Belo also revealed how Jodie, 30, was desperate to ensure that scenes of her character giving birth in the movie were completed “authentically”.
She explained: “Jodie hasn’t had a baby, so a lot of the way through this whole journey, I had to – not just me but other people in her life – I had to make sure that the reality of that was held.
“And so she was looking to me quite a lot for that and trusting me that it was right. She gives birth at the beginning, and that’s a very particular experience, and for her to have to kind of create that authentically was really important to both of us, and I was there hopefully holding her through that.”

Alan Fletcher felt ‘quite nervous’ about the return of Neighbours

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Fletcher felt “nervous” about the return of ‘Neighbours’.
The 66-year-old actor – who has starred as Dr Karl Kennedy since 1994 – is thrilled that the long-running soap is making its much-anticipated return, but Alan has also confessed to feeling quite anxious about the comeback.
He told Sky News: “Everywhere you go in the UK, people just want to talk ‘Neighbours’, talk excitement levels about ‘Neighbours’ coming back. It’s quite a phenomenon.
“In the script there’s been a two-year break, so the writing team have very cleverly been able to craft a story that teases out what happens in those two years.”
The show was axed in 2022, only to be revived a few months later amid a clamour from fans.
Alan is aware that the cast and crew are now under pressure to deliver something good.
He shared: “I was quite nervous going back because, you know, ‘Neighbours’ was kind of like wearing old clothes for most of us – a very familiar work environment, you go to work, you know everybody, it was very relaxed and we had a great time making our TV show. Coming back, the stakes are suddenly way up here because the show has been saved and we really needed to pay homage to that.”
Alan has teased details of the show’s comeback, promising that it’ll feature some “delicious comedy”.
He said: “There’s some delicious comedy to come. We’ve got wonderful returnees like Harold coming in to be a guest character. We’ve got these fabulous new characters as well.
“So there’s a lot going on … and it has been revealed that there’s something going on with [Karl’s wife] Susan, some sort of secret she’s holding on to. And that plays out really interestingly. It’s a bit of a shock to Karl.”

Angela Rippon becomes an ambassador for Carers Trust

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Rippon has become an ambassador for Carers Trust.
The 78-year-old newsreader is a long-time supporter of the charity – which strives to ensure that unpaid carers are heard and valued – and Angela has even spoken about her own experience of caring for her mother Edna, who suffered from vascular dementia.
Angela – who is currently competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – said in a statement: “It is such a privilege to become an ambassador for Carers Trust. Through my work with the dementia community, I know what an incredibly vital role all carers perform for their loved ones.
“But too often that work and loving commitment goes unrecognised and unrewarded. Working alongside the marvellous team at the trust, I hope I can not only further the work of the trust itself, but also champion the thousands of carers who deserve our respect and support.”
John McLean, the chair of Carers Trust, is thrilled that the veteran TV presenter has accepted the role.
He said: “Over the years, Angela has been an exceptionally committed advocate for Carers Trust.
“Unpaid carers are facing huge challenges and our research shows those problems are continuing to grow, from the devastating impact caring has on their finances to the toll on their own health and wellbeing.
“As a passionate carer for her mother, Angela brings great experience and insight of these issues. Everyone at Carers Trust, including our network of local carer organisations which provide advice and support across the UK, is looking forward to working even more closely with her in our aim to secure a better deal for unpaid carers.”

Molly-Mae Hague’s sex drive ‘went sky-high’ amid pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly-Mae Hague’s sex drive went “through the roof” during her pregnancy.
The 24-year-old beauty – who has daughter Bambi, seven months, with boxer Tommy Fury – has revealed that her sex drive went sky-high as she prepared for the arrival of her first child.
During a conversation with her sister Zoe on YouTube, Molly-Mae shared: “When I was pregnant, my sex drive was through the roof.”
Asked if that was really the case, the ‘Love Island’ star replied: “Yeah, literally like through the roof.”
By contrast, Tommy found the scenario to be “a bit strange” and “uncomfortable”.
Molly-Mae said: “Tommy’s wasn’t – when I was pregnant he found it a bit strange. And that’s fine, some men do.
“Some men are really into it or some partners will be … Tommy found it quite uncomfortable, the thought that Bambi was in there and I was here. It was just a bit weird.”
In August, meanwhile, Molly-Mae revealed that she feared she would “never feel happy again” after giving birth.
The TV star also admitted that she’s struggled to adjust to the demands of motherhood.
She shared on her YouTube channel: “I came across a video which literally nearly made me cry. I was home alone with Bambi and she was only a couple weeks old. She was literally screaming and crying, she had colic.
“I was trying to start vlogging again and I was really trying to rush myself back to chatting to you guys and being back present for you guys. I was just desperate to not fall off.
“I think seeing that little video clip made me really reflect on how ridiculously far I’ve come and how genuinely, as weird as it sounds, I wasn’t sure I was ever going to feel happy again. That’s how hard I found the first few weeks.”
