Ghosts star Charlotte Ritchie feeling ‘sad’ after hit BBC is axed

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Ritchie is feeling “sad” over the last series of ‘Ghosts’.
The 34-year-old actress has played the leading role of Alison Cooper on the supernatural sitcom since its inception in 2019 and thinks that fans will also be “really sad” that the BBC One show is coming to an end but assured viewers that writers have wrapped the series up in a “beautiful” way.
She told Digital Spy: “The truth is, it’s sad. There’s no way of getting around it…I think fans will be really sad, but I think [the writers] have done it really beautifully and very tactfully. The writers care so deeply about the show. It’s not like they’re just chucking it in the bin. For them, it’s so emotional for it to be ending. They pulled out all the stops to make it a thoughtful and loving ending. I think it’s great.”
Charlotte also revealed when asked about the idea of a potential seasonal special of the show, she would be more than willing to make a comeback.
She said: “As far as I’m concerned, if they pick up the phone, I’m there…Yeah, 100 percent!”
In the meantime, the ‘Fresh Meat’ actress explained that after sci-fi mystery ‘Repeat’ she would like to make more films but is currently waiting to hear if there will be a new season of Netflix hit ‘You’ amid the SAG AFTRA strike.
She said: “I think so. I liked doing Repeat particularly because it felt very collaborative, and we were all working together to try and make that happen in a short period of time. I did another indie film last September that felt quite similar as it was 10 days in one room. I love that kind of thing where it feels like you have to really rely on each other, and try things out a bit, but I really don’t know. I’m waiting to see what happens with the fifth series of ‘You’, and what happens with the strike.
But in the meantime, I’m doing little projects and little, tiny things. But it’s been nice to have a bit of break and be at home, and to have kind of normal hours for a bit.”

“So, on this show we’ve come together for ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ to raise money and hopefully help to save lives.”
All the celebrities appearing on the ‘SUTC’ special have been touched by cancer, with host and team leader Paddy, 50, left devastated when his dad was killed by the disease and his brother diagnosed with leukemia.

“So to re-spark that love and remind us of where we started… as hard as (‘Dancing on Ice’) could be on a marriage, my husband has been unbelievable and supportive, and I can’t wait to run back into his arms and when the final is over – sort of respark our lives.”

Bradley Cooper wore Leonard Bernstein’s personal bathrobe in Maestro

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Cooper wore late composer Leonard Bernstein’s personal bathrobe in ‘Maestro’.
The Jewish conductor’s children Jamie, Alexander and Nina threw the doors open to their family home in Fairfield, Connecticut for the 48-year-old actor to film scenes for the biopic and even gave him the dressing gown to add to realism.
Speaking to Variety, Jamie said of the actor’s transformation into her father: “It took our breath away, it made us gasp.
“In some pictures, we could tell a little bit that it was Bradley, but there were certain photographs where we would go, ‘Oh my God!’ It was so amazingly perfect.”
Nina couldn’t tell the difference when the ‘A Star Is Born’ star video-called her.
She said: “I had a FaceTime call come in, and I didn’t recognise the number. But I chanced it, and it was my father as an old man!
“Obviously, that was not my father as an old man, it was Bradley. I could not stop laughing. He had the cigarette and the glasses, it was so spot on.”
Not only did Bradley wear his robe, but the children sent him home with their father’s medicine case and co-star Carey Mulligan, who played Bernstein’s wife Felicia got to keep her gold cigarette lighter.
Jamie continued: “We literally opened our doors to Bradley and his team.”
Carey, 38, also got to wear one of Felicia’s gowns.
Quizzed on whether Bradley got to wear or use anything belonging to the maestro himself, his eldest daughter added: “There was a bathrobe that he actually wore in some of the footage.
“And there was a dress of our mother’s that Carey wore.”
The family has nothing but praise for Bradley’s work on the film – which he also directed – however, there has been some controversy surrounding the prosthetic nose he wore for the part of the legendary Jewish star and Jamie is frustrated by the backlash.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “It’s just such an annoying distraction. The people who were waiting to get mad about something were just waiting to pounce.”
Bradley worked with Oscar-winning makeup artist Kazu Hiro to create the controversial nose and Jamie, along with her siblings Alexander and Nina, were amazed by the resemblance he had to their father.
She explained: “It just made us gasp at what they were able to achieve. He would send us photographs on his phone, and some of them were so spot on that we would think, ‘Oh, come on now, he just sneaked in a picture of our dad.'”
The prosthetic had been described as an “annoying distraction”.

The Kill Room had to be rewritten in one day for Samuel L Jackson

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Kill Room’ was rewritten in a day for Samuel L. Jackson.
Director Nicol Paone has revealed how finding out Jackson was available meant the script needed reworking just before Christmas to make the character more suited to the Hollywood megastar’s style of acting.
She told Collider: “That role is really interesting because it was written as Herschel, a 72-year-old Jewish man.
“And when we were discussing the casting, Uma [Thurman] texted me, ‘Is Sam Jackson an option?’ And I was like, ‘Are you kidding? Of course.’
“And so Jonathan and I had a day to rewrite the script before the Christmas break to get it to Sam.”
Despite needing to do some work over the festive period, Paone admitted it was a “great problem” to be faced with.
She added: “I was also meeting my fiancée’s family that day over Christmas, and so I basically had to go in, say hello, and while they were off doing Christmassy things, I had to take over their bedroom and rewrite the script frantically for Samuel L. Jackson to give it to before the break.
“It’s a great problem to have.”
‘The Kill Room’ – which has seen Paone work on the script with Jonathan Jacobson – charts the story of a hitman (Joe Manganiello), his boss (Jackson) and an art dealer (Thurman) whose money-laundering scheme inadvertently turns the hitman into an avant-garde sensation.
Thurman’s character is forced to play the art world against the underworld.
The project marks another collaboration between ‘Pulp Fiction’ co-stars Jackson and Thurman after they appeared onstage at the Academy Awards last year as part of a reunion for Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 movie.

Big Brother superfans flood co-hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best’s DMs

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ co-host AJ Odudu has been inundated with DMs from fans of the show, including ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ stars Jedward.
AJ, 35, and Will Best, 38, are fronting the reboot of the iconic reality show, which is being revived on ITV2, and they have been loving all of the “opinions, the buzz, excitement, and anticipation” leading up to its comeback on Sunday (08.10.23).
She told The Sun: “Yeah my DMs are popping off — but sadly not in the way I would want them to!
“But the fans have all been really amazing — seeing so many people have opinions, the buzz, the excitement, the anticipation.
“I got a message off Jedward — I heard one they sent Will and so I was like ‘Oh! I want one’.”
Will said: “Jedward sent me a lovely heartfelt song and they said ‘Sending you all the Jepic energy in the world.’
“I’m going to listen to it just before we go on! That’s the last thing I want to hear before the producer in my ear.”
Asked if they are nervous, AJ said: “This is such a big show, it would normally feel like such a daunting thing to take on, but knowing I’ve got Will by my side I’m so excited to get started.”
And Will insists the reboot will feel “new” and fresh” from previous runs.
He added: “Obviously, it’s making sure the parts of the show we all know and love are there, but it’s going to have a new, fresh feel because it’s new, fresh people who are a product of 2023, not 2018, and the world has changed. People are a lot more savvy nowadays.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Miles Nazaire has been confirmed for ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The 27-year-old ‘Made In Chelsea’ star is the sixth celebrity to be announced for ITV’s figure skating competition.
Revealing the news on Tuesday (03.10.23), he said: “I’ve always loved to dance but it’s usually on a dance floor on a Saturday night and Dancing on Ice looks so difficult.
“I keep thinking about how I’m going to need to have rhythm while balancing on a thin blade and that’s when I feel the nerves kick in, but this is such an unbelievable opportunity to get totally out of my comfort zone.”
Confirming the news on the official ‘Dancing On Ice’ Instagram account, the team teased: “He can go for miles but how will Chelsea Charmer Miles Nazaire fare around the rink?”
The announcement comes after it was revealed earlier this week that former Olympian Greg Rutherford will also be taking part.

He said: “My kids love dancing around so hopefully they are going to enjoy watching me dance with blades on my feet!
“I think this is going to be a really different experience but one that will be quite exciting. I like a challenge and I needed a reason to go out and do stuff again and here we are.
“I want to perform something that’s never been done before, that’s my aim. I’ll go 100,000 percent on this. I’ll try hard, I’m in no way expecting to be good but I will work as hard as I can.”

‘I never relax!’ Strictly judge Shirley Ballas rocked by vile death threats

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has been scared to leave her home after death threats from trolls.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge has opened up about the violent and sexual messages she has been subjected to online as she fears the trolls are “lurking in dark corners or hiding behind walls”.
As reported by The Sun newspaper, she says in new ITVX documentary ‘Olivia Attwood vs The Trolls’: “I’ve had people draw coffins with me in it with somebody with a spade that said, ‘Die you b***h.’ ”
At one point, the 63-year-old star even considered quitting the BBC ballroom competition over the abuse.
She added: “It’s when it is personal about myself and my family and it affects my mental health. I am not just talking about your phone.
“I am talking about being in public. You worry about those same strange people that write these kinds of messages.
“Are they lurking in dark corners? Are they hiding behind walls when you go somewhere?”
Speaking to former ‘Love Island’ star Olivia in the documentary, she admitted she often lies awake thinking about the people subjecting her to such cruel messages.
She revealed: “Sometimes at night, I lie there and wonder, Are they suffering? Are they lonely? Is it funny to them?”
“This whole experience has made me much more vigilant.
“I cannot say that I leave my front door unless I am on point. I never relax. It has changed my life completely I would say.”
In the documentary, Olivia reads some of the messages out, including unsolicited sexual fantasies from men in their 20s.
Shirley added: “Some are so nerve racking that I can’t show you.”
Despite the abuse, Shirley insisted she still sees her role as a positive experience, and she is often overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback she gets.
She said: “I love this experience, the fact I can help all the charities. I love those channels that this job gives me but it also gives you this other side…
“For every ten awful messages I get, I will get 1,000 brilliant messages.”

‘The interest hasn’t gone away’: Todd Haynes still hopes to make Peggy Lee biopic Fever

OHMYGOSSIP — Todd Haynes is still desperate to make his Peggy Lee biopic ‘Fever’.
The 62-year-old director had been set to make a movie that featured Michelle Williams as the legendary singer before the project was scrapped last year for financial reasons, although he is refusing to give up hope that it will eventually come to the big screen.
Todd told IndieWire at the New York Film Festival: “When it couldn’t happen – when we thought it could happen and it was close to pre-production – it was tough.
“It’s still a tender spot for all of us. We really put so much time and thought into it. And then I just had all of these other projects lined up that I was very excited to divert my energies into.
“But look, the interest in the subject hasn’t gone away. The amazement with the subject and her hasn’t gone away. And the desire to work with Michelle again hasn’t gone away.”
Michelle announced last year that ‘Fever’ was dead but did express hope that someone would be able to get the project going again.
The 43-year-old star said: “It’s gone the way of the buffalo, I’m afraid.
“But if anyone reading this story would like to resurrect it, Todd and I are on board for that.”
Haynes does have upcoming cinema projects to keep him busy and is preparing to direct Joaquin Phoenix in a queer period romance that is set in 1930s Los Angeles.
The ‘May December’ filmmaker said: “We hope to be mounting a production in Mexico.
“The two men run away to Mexico. It’s set in 1937-38 Los Angeles, but they flee to Mexico. And I think there’s a lot of intelligence that is leading us there, which would be an amazing experience.”

‘That’s not for me’: Clint Eastwood snubbed Superman role

OHMYGOSSIP — Clint Eastwood turned down the chance to play Superman.
The Hollywood legend, 93, was offered the role of Superman for the eponymous 1978 film but rejected it as he wanted to play Marvel hero Namor the Sub-Mariner.
In an interview with Far Out magazine, the ‘Dirty Harry’ actor recalled: “I was like, ‘Superman? Nah, nah, that’s not for me.’ Not that there’s anything wrong with it. It’s for somebody, but not me. The Sub-Mariner, that’s the one I always liked. I had all of those comics when I was a kid.”
Namor the Sub-Mariner first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1939. He is the son of the princess of Atlantis and pledges his life to defend the underwater city.
The character has only recently made it to the silver screen in 2022’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ – played by Tenoch Huerta.
Whilst the possibilities of Eastwood suiting up for a Marvel movie are slim, there is still a chance he can be involved behind the camera if the superhero project is aimed at a more mature audience.
During a Q and A session at CinemaCon in 2015, the actor and director said: “I read comic books when I was a kid, I don’t read them now.
“I prefer adult-oriented stuff. I mean that in the PG-13 or R sense, but that’s as far as it goes.”

Ross Kemp forced to halt production of Ross Kemp: 72 Hours In due to Ecuador coup

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp was forced to cease production of ‘Ross Kemp: 72 Hours In…’ due to a military coup.
The ex ‘EastEnders’ star – who played Grant Mitchell in the BBC One soap – was due to head to Ecuador to film his new Channel 5 series about some of the world’s toughest prisons but opted not to carry on with filming over concerns for his safety.
A coup broke out in Ecuador in May this year, and the decision to pull out meant producers needed to pause plans for the series due to a tight schedule, having only shot one episode on Colombia.
Ross’ series was first revealed to be “halted” because of “unforeseen” issues on-set but no further information was provided.
A Channel 5 spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: “Filming had begun on the series, but due to unforeseen production challenges, we have made the practical decision to halt filming at the moment.”
The series has been described as the soap star-turned-documentary maker going “behind bars in some of the world’s most high-security, high-risk prisons housing gang leaders, serial killers, violent criminals, drug lords and mass murderers”.
Ross – who know hosts the BBC game show ‘The Bridge of Lies’ – recently hinted that the programme will make him go “even further than before”.
He told Holly Willoughby while appearing on ‘This Morning’: “I’ve been to some of the toughest prisons in the UK and all around the world. I thought I’d experienced it all, and taken every adventure, but this time we’re going even further than before,’ he said in a statement announcing the project.
“I’m looking forward to my first documentary series with Channel 5 and taking you all on this journey with me.”
The 59-year-old television personality has reflected on the benefits of a “dark sense of humour” when it comes to being in such challenging and bleak environments.
He told the Sun newspaper: “The great thing is the dark sense of humour that comes with being someone who operates in those kinds of environments.
“We also use trauma risk management, which means sitting down and talking through trauma with your colleagues.”

Julian Clary still talks to the late Paul O’Grady

OHMYGOSSIP — Julian Clary still talks to the late Paul O’Grady.
The ‘Taskmaster’ star revealed that he still follows his usual pre-show ritual of talking to his good pal after the late comic – who shot to fame as drag queen Lily Savage in the 80s – died in March aged 67 from a heart condition.
The 64-year-old comedian told the Radio Times magazine: “Ah yes, I’ll see him [Paul] next time I’m on tour. It was such a shocking, sudden death. Everyone’s finding it really hard.
“I used to speak to him on the phone every few weeks. I forget that he’s gone. He was the funniest person. Whenever he rang, it would be just an injection of joy.
“I was helpless with laughter. He was absolutely filthy.”
Julian performed the eulogy at the late ‘For the Love of Dogs’ host’s funeral and according to attendee Alan Carr, the entire congregation was “in bits” but ended up “killing” themselves with how much laughter was in the room.
The 47-year-old comedian told Kathy Burke, 59, on her podcast ‘Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake’: “[Julian] did the eulogy at the funeral and of course, we’re all in bits and crying, [but before Julian’s eulogy] the man comes on and plays the organ.
“He’s proper like Les Dawson, all out of tune, and we’re killing ourselves laughing – not meant to be- then Julian gets up to do the eulogy.
“[But before that] this vicar comes out – honestly, he must not know Julian’s work – and says ‘can I just apologise – the organ needed pumping’.”
“Julian just looked round and looked at him and said ‘thanks for clearing that up. What a gift for Julian.”
Julian also told Radio Times that he doesn’t think being “cancelled” is “new” after he faced backlash for a very blue joke about having sex with the then-Chancellor of the Exchequer Norman Lamont.
He said: “I don’t think it’s new… I was cancelled, wasn’t I? After the Norman Lamont incident, I was allegedly banished…
“I think the rule is you can say anything you want as long as it’s funny. So when people go too far, it’s probably not funny.
“You’ve got to test the water sometimes. We all step over the line, otherwise, we wouldn’t know where the line is.”

‘It’s a warning!’ The Reckoning producer defends controversial Jimmy Savile drama from backlash

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Reckoning’ producer has insisted it’s important to “explore stories like Jimmy Savile” on television.
The upcoming BBC drama – which starts airing on BBC from Monday (09.10.23) – tells the harrowing true story of the abuse carried out by the disgraced, late entertainer with Steve Coogan in the lead role, but some people have criticised the show for the idea turning his horrific crimes into a fictional series.
However, executive producer Jeff Pope argued to the Radio Times magazine: “My view is that the quickest way to invite something like this to happen again is to ignore it.
“I passionately believe we have to explore stories like Savile.
“The same is true with Fred West, Myra Hindley and Ian Brady. The theme of a lot of stuff that Neil and I do is that it’s a warning from the past.”
Pope has reunited with writer Neil McKay for the project, having previously worked together on true crime dramas like ‘See No Evil: The Moors Murders’ and ‘Appropriate Adult’.
Neil insisted there is merit to turning a heinous true story such as Savile – who was exposed as a paedophile after his death in 2011 – rather than a documentary.
He explained: “I think what drama can do – which documentaries can’t – is put you right in the middle of these scenes.
“Savile started out as a dance-hall DJ in Manchester. And DJs enjoy controlling a room.
“I think he was a con man. What we try to show is how, in successive institutions – Leeds General Infirmary, the pop business, the BBC, eventually Margaret Thatcher’s private office and beyond – the mechanics of Savile’s con worked. That’s what I think only drama can give you.”
‘Alan Partridge’ actor Coogan has also defended the series, and urged its critics to watch before they “judge it”.
He added: “By not talking about it, you don’t get to the nub of that and if you don’t look at it, you’re destined for those things to happen again.”

Zoe Ball reveals firefighters were called to her home after she left candle unattended

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Ball nearly burned her Sussex home down after she left a candle unattended.
The BBC Radio 2 DJ has revealed firefighters were called to her country house after the smoke alarms caught the attention of her lovely neighbours, who helped save the day while she was out.
The 52-year-old broadcaster told the listeners of her radio show: “Something that happened to me for the first time was that yesterday, the fire brigade went to my house.
“I had left a candle burning in the lounge. I was so obsessed with ‘The Matrix’ and the fact that I had made a cake on Sunday, I had gone out and hadn’t blown out one of the candles.
“It was left smouldering in the lounge and at 9.25am my smoke alarms went off and thank goodness! Otherwise I might have gone home to no home!”
Zoe thanked everyone who “stopped” her home from “burning down”.
She continued: “Thank you to my neighbour Abs and my gorgeous Em who called the fire brigade.
“And I’d like to give a big shout-out to Duncan and the Uckfield boys, Joe and Cameron and Steve, who went around, put out the candle and stopped my house from burning down.”
The former ‘Strictly: It Takes Two’ host – who has son Woody, 22, and daughter Nelly, 13, with ex Norman Cook,60 – recently split from her boyfriend Michael Reed after being together for nearly five and half years, her first major relationship since her partner Billy Yates took his own life.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Zoe is gutted but she’s better off without Michael. This is a relief to many of her friends, who think she has done the right thing.
“Now it seems the relationship has finally run its course. She asked him to move out and he has done so, although they have remained on good terms.”
