Coleen Nolan reveals how her family deals with cancer: ‘We have to use humour!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Nolan and her family have to use humour to get through their cancer troubles.
The 58-year-old TV star explained that it is “laughable” just how much the disease has hit her famous singing family and as elder sister Linda, 64, battles incurable brain cancer explained that it seems so “unrealistic” and admitted that losing sister Bernie – who died in 2013 at the age of 52 – was a “massive blow” for them all.
She told The Sunday Mirror’s Notbeook magazine: “Breast cancer has hit my family so much that it’s laughable. We get through it all with humour because what has happened to us is a joke. Just when you think it can’t hit us anymore, it comes back and whacks us again. If it was on a film, you’d think it was an unrealistic storyline because surely so much couldn’t happen to one family. But it does and it has. Anne’s diagnosis hit me like a ton of bricks. Luckily, she caught it so early. She said she felt what was like a grain of sand in one of her breasts.
“She had chemotherapy , but she didn’t have to – she just had to have a lumpectomy. But by the time they caught Linda’s, it was quite advanced so she needed a mastectomy. I still thought ‘Well, Anne’s managed to do it, so Linda will’.
“When I got the call about Bernie’s diagnosis, I cried my eyes out. I remember thinking that we couldn’t be lucky enough to survive this. I had this awful feeling. Losing Bernie was a massive blow to the family. If there was a party to be had, Bernie would find it. If there was a reason to get us all together, she would do it. She was the smallest of us all but the most enigmatic.”
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist went on to add that she tries not to “overthink” the possibility that she may become ill with cancer herself but checks herself very often and is “not afraid” to seek help if she is concerned.
She added: “I try not to overthink it because I could scare myself to death. Worrying isn’t going to help me, and stress, if anything, could lead to other problems. I try not to let it consume my life. But because I am aware of it, I check myself and I am not afraid of seeking help. Hopefully, if something did happen, I would be able to catch it in time so could be treated.”

Les Dennis is first celebrity to get boot from ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2023’: ‘I really got put through my paces!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Les Dennis is the first celebrity to depart the dancefloor in ‘Strictly Come Dancing 2023’.
Last Saturday’s first live episode of the series saw all the show’s couples take to the dancefloor for the first time with no public vote – but this weekend the judges’ latest scores were added to those from the opening show and combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples who would face the dance off.
TV host Les, 59, went head-to-head with radio presenter Nikita Kanda, 28, with both couples again performing their routines.
Nikita Kanda and her dance partner Gorka Márquez performed their Charleston to ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)’ by Beyoncé, while Les and his dance partner Nancy Xu did the Samba to ‘Rock the Boat’ by Hues Corporation.
With three votes in favour of Nikita and Gorka, they won the majority vote with Les and Nancy exiting on Sunday (01.10.23) night’s results show.
When asked by how Tess Daly about his and Nancy’s time on the show, Les said: “I’ve had the best time, this lady has been amazing, a great teacher, she’s really put me through my paces.”
He added to Nancy: “I did as well as I could for you, I hope!… I really appreciate and understand the judge’s point of view, thank you so much.”
Les told head judge Shirley Ballas he was thankful “for giving me a 10 for entertainment”, adding: “I hope I’ve entertained, that’s what I came here for. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re just all amazing!”
Nancy told Tess when asked how it had it been teaching in the training room with her partner Les: “It’s been a journey. This is such a short but a sweet journey.
“A lot of challenges we all know, but to see (Les) every day improve (himself), I respect you so, so much.
“I just want to say thank you to the judges and all my fellow friends. Thank you ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for all of your support. Thank you Les.”
Tess was joined by co-host Claudia Winkleman for the second live show as the couples tried to dazzle judges Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and head judge, Shirley Ballas.
After Les and Nikita’s dance off, Craig chose to save Nikita and Gorka, as did Motsi, who said: “Both couples danced better in the dance off. One couple was extremely better in the dance off. I will save Nikita and Gorka.”
Explaining why he also chose to save Nikita and Gorka, Anton said: “I thought it was a competition of two couples on performance alone and who could really nail their performance.
“I think the couple who did the best job were Nikita and Gorka.”
Sunday’s show also featured a routine from its professional dancers who moved to a medley in tribute to the late Tina Turner.
There was also a guest musical performance from singer songwriter Jorja Smith who sang her tune ‘Try Me’.
The remaining fourteen couples will take to the dancefloor next week for a ‘Movie Week Special’ when ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns on Saturday 7 October at 6.20pm on BBC One, with the results show the next night at 7.15pm on the channel.

Strictly’s Amy Dowden ‘dreaming’ of dancing again

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro Amy Dowden admits she is “dreaming of dancing again” amid her cancer battle.
The 33-year-old dancer isn’t part of the BBC One show’s line-up this year after she was diagnosed with the disease in May and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Amy says watching the show has been a real “escapism” from her reality and she is counting down the days until she can return to the ballroom.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, she wrote: “It’s moments like this I need right now, escaping me from my now at the moment reality and I’m so thankful to the entire @bbcstrictly for this. Hoping to back with the gang real soon.
Amy continued: “There’s no text book or right/wrong way to deal with your cancer journey. Everyone deals with it rightly their way.
“I’m so lucky to be surrounded by so much support which I don’t take for granted and days like here is what keeps me going. I’m dreaming every night of dancing on that floor again but right now I’m my fellow pros’ proudest and biggest cheerleader.”
Amy recently broke down in tears as she shaved her hair off after chemo caused her locks to fall out in clumps.
She took the brave step of cutting the rest of it off herself as it’s the one thing she can control.
A video posted on her Instagram page shows her loved ones taking turns to snip of locks of her hair before the rest was shaved off. She explained: “Taking control – the hardest step so far. I tried my best to save it. I know it’s only hair but these past few months I’ve had what feels like so much taken away from me that has made me not feel like Amy. I’m missing every possible aspect of dancing. I just wanted to keep my identity with my hair and I tried telling myself it wouldn’t go. But I would dread the pain of waking up to the shredding every day.”
She went on: “I’ve not been able to take control of this journey so far, but as you can see with some of my loved ones I took the courage and CONTROL. It’s going to take some time to get use to and learn to love and embrace but, I’m now focussing-not on the hair I’m losing but the hair I’m going to get back and the happy dancing, tea lover who talks way to fast whilst rolling every rrrrr who is still there inside with or without hair!”
Amy – who has now reached the halfway point in her chemotherapy treatment – added: “Since taking control, I feel I can now see the finish line. This for me was a hurdle I couldn’t even bring myself to think or speak about. I’ve done it and I’ve also crossed the half way chemo line!
I’m feeling empowered and positive! To everyone on their own journey, whatever that maybe, I’m sending love, power, strength and courage. I found my courage for this step and I’m proud … (There are some fun before and after vids/reels coming, but I wanted to share the truth and hopefully help others, and bring normality to a beautiful bald head).”
It comes after Amy admitted she was having “meltdowns” over her hair loss.

Jeremy Clarkson considered selling off Diddly Squat farm

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson seriously considered selling off his Diddly Squat farm after this year’s wet summer led to a terrible harvest.
The former ‘Top Gear’ host has been focusing on farming in recent years after buying up an estate in the Cotswolds and his antics have been documented in Amazon TV series ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ – but the TV star has admitted he almost gave up after realising months of rain and soaring production costs means he’s unlikely to make any money from the business again this year.
In his column for The Times newspaper, he explained: “In my first year of farming I made a profit of £114. That will look like a dream result when I get the figures for this year.”
Clarkson revealed he spent around £40,000 on seeds, fertiliser and sprays last year, but those costs rose to around £110,000 in 2023 while a cold spring and wet summer has ruined his barley crop.
He has also faced a challenge with his pigs as the local abattoir has closed and he now needs to make a three-hour round-trip to get them to slaughter – and the mounting issues left him debating whether to walk away from his beloved farm.
Clarkson added: “I’ve tried farming conventionally and it didn’t work. I’ve tried diversifying and that hasn’t really worked either. And I’ve tried with sheep and pigs and cows and that has been a bit of a disaster as well. So I arrived at a crossroads and was not sure which way to turn. I could sell the farm and earn far more from the interest than I do from growing bread and beer and vegetable oil.”
He added it would be “heartbreaking” to part with his farm and spent a week pondering what to do, but the decision ended up being made for him.
The presenter explained: “On Friday night my land agent, Cheerful Charlie, dropped in for a cup of tea and announced he’d bought all the fertiliser we’d need for the next nine months and that Kaleb was already out there drilling cover crops … So there we are. The farming circle has begun all over again.”

Live-action Barney won’t be ‘odd’, says Mattel CEO

OHMYGOSSIP — The live-action ‘Barney’ movie won’t be “odd”, Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz has reassured.
After it was revealed that the upcoming flick – which will follow the record-breaking success of the toy company’s live-action ‘Barbie’ movie – will focus on “Millennial angst” and be “surrealistic”, the boss insists it won’t be completely out there.
Kreiz told Semafor: “It’s too early to be specific, but I can tell you we are taking a fresh approach that will be fun, entertaining and culturally oriented. It will not be an odd movie.”
Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon gave a hint of what to expect when ‘Nope’ star Daniel Kaluuya brings the beloved purple dinosaur to the big screen.
He told The New Yorker magazine earlier this year: “We’re leaning into the Millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids.
“It’s really a play for adults. Not that it’s R-rated, but it’ll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being 30-something, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation.
“It would be so daring of us, and really underscore that we’re here to make art.”
Kaluuya previously opened up on his desire to bring Barney to the bring screen in a live-action format, and revealed how he wanted to focus on the poignant aspect of the character.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “Barney taught us, ‘I love you, you love me. Won’t you say you love me too?’
“That’s one of the first songs I remember, and what happens when that isn’t true? I thought that was really heartbreaking. I have no idea why but it feels like that makes sense.
“It feels like there’s something unexpected that can be poignant but optimistic. Especially at this time now, I think that’s really, really needed.”

Ethan Hawke feared acting roles would dry up

OHMYGOSSIP — Ethan Hawke turned to writing and directing movies over fears he acting roles would dry up.
The ‘Training Day’ star won two Academy Award nominations for his writing work on 2004’s ‘Before Sunset’ and its 2013 sequel ‘Before Midnight’ and he has been directing since 2001 when he made his directorial debut with drama ‘Chelsea Walls’ – and Ethan has now revealed he embraced the behind-the-scenes side of Hollywood in case he started struggling to land acting jobs.
Speaking during an appearance at the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, he explained: “I stayed connected to wanting to write and direct, because I was so fearful of the parade leaving town. Acting is a challenging lifestyle choice, because you are only as good as your opportunities. I was scared they would take the candy away.”
The 52-year-old Hollywood star also spoke about his breakthrough role in 1989 movie ‘Dead Poets Society’ in which he played one of the students taughter by Robin Williams’ character – and he hailed the film as a life-changing experience.
He said: “A lot of children want to perform. They want to be athletes, firemen, actors. They think it’s fun to get attention. I did like it, and then I had this strange storm that came into my life, which was ‘Dead Poets Society’.”
Ethan added of his late co-star Williams: “He was a miracle to be near. The success of that film showed me the power of art. It does make a difference and people are listening if you speak clearly.”
His latest project is ‘Wildcat’ a collaboration with his daughter Maya Hawke. Ethan co-wrote and directed the movie while his ‘Stranger Things’ actress daughter stars alongside Laura Linney.
The film tells the story of American novelist Flannery O’Connor and Ethan added of the experience: “It’s extremely easy to direct your own daughter, because the love is there.”

Sir Michael Palin admits his body is getting ‘rusty’ ahead of new travel show

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Palin has admitted his body is getting “rusty”.
The ‘Monty Python’ actor, who turned 80 in May – three days after the death of his wife Helen – is getting set to head to West Africa for another of his TV travel shows, and said he is glad he can get out of chairs at his age.
He told the ‘Headliners’ podcast: “Your body gets rusty like a piece of old machinery that’s done you quite well over the years but then a couple of screws fall off and a door falls off and that’s it.
“Fortunately, I don’t have any bits that have fallen off so far. I’m enjoying being 80, but at 80 you are old.
“When you get (to 80) you feel pleased you can still get out of a chair unaided.”
Michael also admitted he can still hear his wife’s voice urging him to stay on track with his career and life.
Helen died in May after she was stricken with kidney failure weeks after their 57th wedding anniversary.
Michael added: “I hear my wife’s voice going, ‘Get on with it, don’t mope around’.
“I’m doing what she would want me to do. It is a distraction and stops you from feeling suddenly bereft.”
The actor added about his travel show plans: “I’m fairly certain I’m going to be doing another travel series with the same team that sent me to North Korea and Iraq.”
And he said about his next series being based in West Africa: “I can’t say exactly where because it’s still being decided.”
Michael also told ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ show at the end of September about Helen: “She will always be on my mind and by my side all the time. After sharing six decades together, we knew each other so well and I can’t share that with anybody else.”
He added about Helen’s death, which came after she gave up dialysis following years of agony and illness: “She had lost her independence. She didn’t want to live being guided around every room.”
Michael and Helen met when they were 16, married in 1966 and had children Thomas, 54, William, 52, and Rachel, 48, as well as four grandchildren.
He described her as the “bedrock of my life” when he announced her death on his blog.

Paddy McGuinness hopes he’ll live to see cancer cure: ‘I’m all about the research’

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy McGuinness hopes he will live to see a cancer cure.
The presenter, 50, was left devastated when his dad was killed by the disease, and is now taking part in his new Stand Up To Cancer special ‘Don’t Look Down’.
Paddy, whose brother suffered leukemia, told The Sun: “My dad passed away from colon cancer and my brother had leukaemia.
“My thing with ‘Stand Up To Cancer’, especially with the raising money, is I hope – touch wood – that within all our lifetimes, they’ll have cracked the cure.
“I’m all about the research and the more money that can be pumped into that, the better.”
Paddy and a string of celebrities will be facing up to their fear of heights in the Channel 4 ‘SUTC’ special with a never-before-attempted feat of a highwire walk across a London landmark that is still to be revealed.
Paddy added he was proud he was getting involved in the stunt as he doesn’t see the likes of Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly doing bushtucker trials on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’
He said: “I’ve done stuff for ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ in the past, so when Channel 4 suggested getting involved, I thought, ‘That’s quite interesting – I’ve never seen that done before.’
“I’ve never seen Ant and Dec in the jungle eating a kangaroo’s penis – they’re always like, ‘Go on, get it down you!’”
Paddy’s ‘SUTC’ show – which will air on 10 October at 9.15pm on Channel 4 – also features actress Beverley Callard, 66, former footballers David Ginola, 56, and Anton Ferdinand, 38, as well as travel presenter Charley Boorman, 57, athlete Victoria Pendleton, 43, and TikTokkers GK Barry, 24, and Fats Timbo, 26, travel to the Austrian Alps to train for their highwire act.
It comes after the BBC axed two of his shows, ‘Catchpoint’ and ‘I Can See Your Voice’.
Paddy admitted about how his background has given him a fear of work drying up: “I do think being working class, it’s in you. You just have that thing of… that constant fear of, if it stops what do I do next?
“You constantly have that in your mind. I’ve always been quite driven in that sense.
“I’ve always been looking at the next thing, even when I’m on a show that’s really successful.
“I’m constantly looking at the next thing or trying to create something myself.”

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan constantly worries about getting cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Nolan constantly worries about getting cancer.
The 58-year-old TV star’s famous singing family has a long history of battling the disease over the years and as her elder sister Linda endures an incurable fight with brain cancer, she admitted ahead of undertaking hosting duties on ITV fundraiser ‘The Real Full Monty’ that she has no inhibitions about going to get checked out straight away.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, she said: “Linda is just a machine, she’s unbelievable. Cancer just hits her again and again and again. She’s incredible because she’ll say ‘Oh I can’t meet you for lunch today, I’ve had chemo, I’m not feeling great’ but then the next day she’ll say ‘Right, where are we all going?’ It’s hard for her. She’s struggling to walk now but she just gets on with it every day. It is frightening.
“It’s all scary and of course, I think about it all the time if but if I’m ever unsure about anything, I go straight away. And that’s what the ‘The Real Full Monty’ thing is about. Nine times out of 10, it’s nothing but the odd time…Linda has had it about 15 years now, Anne survived it, my eldest sister. Bernie sadly didn’t.”
Meanwhile, the long-serving ‘Loose Women’ panellist – who shot to fame as part of The Nolans in the 1980s – is gearing up to go on her first solo tour ‘Naked’ because she knew she would have eventually regretted not getting on stage again even though she will feel “vulnerable” doing it alone.
She said: “I’m doing my first-ever solo tour in February and the reason it’s called ‘Naked’ is because I’ve never done anything solo before. And so it makes me feel quite vulnerable, quite exposed. It’s a concert, I’ll chat to the audience but it’s mainly just to have a great night out and learn a little bit more about me. It’s 16 dates across the country.
“If I get to a stage or an age where I think ‘What do I regret?’, it will be that I never performed again because that’s what I do.”

Holly returned to hosting duties on Monday’s (02.10.2023) edition of ‘This Morning’, fronting the ITV daytime show alongside former ‘Big Brother’ winner Josie Gibson.
A slew of famlos faces were quick to send their condolences as they commented on Kelly’s post.

‘It’s a very delicate balance’: Dame Helen Mirren on playing characters with a different heritage

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Helen Mirren has acknowledged there is a “very delicate balance” to playing people with a different heritage.
The 78-year-old star plays former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in Guy Nattiv’s biopic ‘Golda’ although her casting was met with a backlash because she is not Jewish and she “can see” why some are uncomfortable with her role.
Speaking on the BBC’s ‘Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg’, Helen said: “I think I can see, but sometimes I can’t see, because, I can’t see who in this room is Jewish.
“We are all such an amazing mix and certainly I don’t have an issue with Kirk Douglas playing a Viking. Kirk Douglas was Jewish.”
Bradley Cooper also faced criticism for wearing make-up to amplify the size of his nose as he depicts conductor Leonard Bernstein in the Netflix film ‘Maestro’ and Mirren realises the pitfalls of playing characters from different cultures.
The ‘Calendar Girls’ star said: “I think the whole question of assuming a certain physiognomy because you’re playing a particular race, there is something offensive about that.
“On the other hand, if you’re playing Leonard Bernstein and this is really what Leonard Bernstein looked like, you know, maybe it’s a good idea.
“As I say, it’s a very delicate balance.”
‘Golda’ explores the life of Israel’s first female Prime Minister, particularly during the Yom Kippur War, and Helen is aware of the controversy surrounding Golda’s treatment of Palestinians.
She said: “All I’m doing is playing Golda during the period of the Yom Kippur War.
“I’m not explaining her or rationalising her or reappraising her. I’m just playing a woman of that age dealing with that situation.”
Mirren also said that she was inspired by Golda’s leadership during the conflict – when Israel was rocked by a twin attack by Arab powers Syria and Egypt on the morning of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur.
‘The Queen’ actress said: “Just the fact she didn’t put on power suits and walk around like, ‘I’m running a country’.
“On the contrary, she just stayed exactly who she was before she became prime minister. It was an incredibly important moment in female history, for me personally, to see that happen.”

Francis Ford Coppola was inspired by the Roman Empire when making Megalopolis

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Ford Coppola took inspiration from Ancient Rome for his film ‘Megalopolis’.
The legendary director took to social media to offer his contribution to the popular TikTok trend on why men are obsessed with the Roman Empire and explained that the historical period served as the basis for his new sci-fi epic.
Francis wrote on Instagram: “How often do I think of Ancient Rome? Quite a lot.
“The Roman Republic served as the example for my country America and its institutions, and was the inspiration for my upcoming film ‘Megalopolis’.”
The 84-year-old director – who has helmed movies including ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’ – continued: “My fascination with the Roman Republic is based on the struggle between the political parties during which the interest of the Republic yielded to the ambitions of a few powerful men who espoused the arms of political parties to establish their own fortunes and authority by relying upon armed forces to achieve those ends, dealing the final blow to a constitution already tottering to its fall.”
Adam Driver stars in the movie about an architect who tries to rebuild a city as a utopia following a devastating disaster and previously rubbished claims that there was chaos on set.
He told Paste: “‘Megalopolis’ is one of the most exciting things that I’ve been a part of, with Francis in particular.
“It’s one of the best shooting experiences I’ve had. And the things he’s made, there’s no frame of reference for it. It’s so unique and inventive and hopefully accessible by everyone. That it’s not so elusive that it’s for a certain audience, it’s for everyone.
“And he is everything that you hope he will be.”

Ross Kemp’s Channel 5 show on dangerous prisons stopped mid-production over ‘incident’

OHMYGOSSIP — Production on Ross Kemp’s new show about dangerous prisons has been halted because of an “incident”.
The 59-year-old TV star is fronting the Channel 5 series ‘Ross Kemp: 72 Hours In … ‘ and crew were just about to head out for the next leg of filming in South Africa but, according to Deadline, an “incident” has forced production to be stopped for the moment as “conversations are taking place between the Paramount UK network” and producers of the show.
A spokeswoman for Channel 5 said: “Filming had begun on the series, but due to unforeseen production challenges, we have made the practical decision to halt filming at the moment.”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor has fronted a slew of documentaries in recent years and recently explained that he thought he had seen it all until he arrived to film the latest series.
He told The Sun: “I’ve been to some of the world’s toughest prisons. I thought I’d experienced it all, but this time we’re going even further. The great thing is the dark sense of humour that comes with being someone who operates in those kinds of environments. We also use trauma risk management which means sitting down and talking through trauma with your colleagues.”
The documentary maker – who has been married to Renee O’Brien since 2012 and has Leo, eight, and six-year-old twins Ava and Kitty with her – then admitted that his biggest fear would in fact not being around for his children.
He said: “That can be being shot at, you can be in a road traffic accident or your son has been killed by drug dealers.
“What keeps me up now isn’t necessarily those events, it’s worrying about not being around for my kids.”

Olivia Attwood teases I’m A Celeb comeback: ‘I have unfinished business!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Attwood “would love” to have a second chance at ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’
The 32-year-old reality star entered the jungle for the 2022 series but was removed on medical grounds after 24 hours when a routine blood test showed signs of anaemia.
Everything turned out to be “absolutely fine” in the end and she has now teased that she has “unfinished business” with the ITV1 survival show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “I turned out to be absolutely fine but they were being careful, they were doing their jobs and looking after me. At some point, I would love to return. Unfinished business!”
Since finding fame on ‘Love Island’ in 2017, the ‘Loose Women’ panellist has fronted a string of documentaries focusing on hard-hitting subjects and is now back with a new film tackling the issue of trolling, featuring the likes of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Shirley Ballas, who discusses the abuse she receives online.
Olivia explained: “People who troll don’t want to own things that they say. Research shows that people who troll are quite intelligent and they know how to cut where it hurts but they lack empathy in terms of the pain they are causing.
“The motivation is just to be heard and to be seen, which I know doesn’t make an excuse for it and you see the people we meet during the film are from all different walks of life – the impact it has is huge. Shirley humanised it in the sense that – this is a real human being who had written this. She said it had impacted how safe she felt on a day-to-day basis.”
‘Olivia Attwood vs the Trolls’ is available now to stream on ITVX.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kirsty Leigh-Porter says her decision to quit the latest series of ‘SAS: Who Dares Wins’ amid her crippling panic attacks was “absolutely gutting”.
The ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Hollyoaks’ actress, 34, revealed she started to struggle with isolation training and during a traumatic gas-mask challenge, designed to trigger a stress response as the Channel 4 show’s contestants battle to escape a room while breathing in tear gas.
Kirsty told The Sun: “It just got to a point where I started to think and process what was actually happening.
“We had already done two weeks of isolation in the middle of Vietnam having not been able to speak to family. I think my brain was triggered from the stress response and that triggered a huge panic attack.
“I was just feeling so breathless and weak and seriously thought I was going to have a heart attack.
“But I was absolutely gutted, I just felt like I failed.
“I knew I could have done better but it’s just debilitating suffering panic attacks.”
“My experience did make me realise I have to spend a lot more time working on me, taking baby steps and not giant leaps to a jungle!”
Despite being one of the earliest quitters of the SAS show, John Barrowman, 56, was rumoured to have walked out of 2024’s series, which was filmed this summer, after half-an-hour.
The Sun previously revealed Kirsty was the first to leave the process this series.
An insider had claimed she only lasted around an hour.
The newspaper said she had been was cast on the show in a bid to draw in younger viewers thanks to her appeal on youth-orientated ‘Hollyoaks’.
Kirsty did weight training and running to prepare, and said about why she wanted to take part: “I feel like as you get older, you get a bit lost as to who you are, who I used to be, who I am as a mother, as a partner, as my (‘Hollyoaks’) character Leela (Lomax.)
“You kind of get lost amongst it all so I wanted to break contact with every day life strip back mentally and physically and face me and see what my limits and boundaries are.”
