Illusionist Derren Brown admits he got ‘burnouty’ before new show

OHMYGOSSIP — TV illusionist Derren Brown has admitted he was near burnout after his last tour.
The 52-year-old ‘mentalist’ doesn’t appear on stage in his new theatre show ‘Unbelievable’, and instead uses a cast of non-magician.
He told The Sun about how it came about after he decided he need to give himself some rest: “I needed a bit of a break after the last tour which was like a year and a half and also crossed over with doing this show.
“It got a bit burnouty.”
But he reassured fans: “I’m not going to stop any time soon, but it’s nice to explore this different way of approaching it.”
The show, at London’s Criterion Theatre, uses entertainers with no magic backgrounds to explore how tricks can be performed without the “learned behaviours and instincts” of professionally illusionists.
Derren added: “That’s been a fun part of it – some have a background in magic but some don’t – and it’s great to see what they bring to it, all the baggage.”
The trickster’s controversial telly shows have included the 2018 Netflix special ‘Sacrifice’.
It featured an unsuspecting participant taking part in a faked medical experiment to increase his bravery and empathy before he is put in a situation where he must decide whether to take a bullet for a stranger or save his own life.
Derren has said about his new show, which was three years in the making and which is running in London until 7 April 2024: “We have reimagined what a night of illusion could be.
“We have taken the love and experience we’ve put into my own stage work over twenty years and created, from the ground up, a proper, original, theatrical experience.
“I think we have liberated the magic show. It’s going to be a glorious thing.”
The show features a New York Subway band and a company of performers, plus, an updated version of a one act play not seen on the London stage in over 100 years – ‘Will, The Witch and The Wolfman’.
Derren co-wrote and directed the production with long-time collaborators Andy Nyman, 57, and 60-year-old Andrew O’Connor, and it’s a career first in his shows that he isn’t personally appear on stage.

Coleen Rooney WEEKS away from unveiling ‘real’ story of her Wagatha Christie legal fight with Rebekah Vardy in new documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Rooney is weeks away from revealing the “real” story of her epic legal battle with Rebekah Vardy in a new TV series.
Disney+ has confirmed it will be releasing the highly-anticipated documentary ‘Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story’ on Friday 18 October – with the streamer saying the show will give “exclusive access” to the wife of former footballer Wayne Rooney’s legal battle to prove her fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy leaked stories about her to the press.
Disney said about the upcoming three-part show: “The incredible story will be told through exclusive access to the woman at the heart of it all, Coleen Rooney finally speaks alongside interviews with her family, legal team and key players involved in the resulting trial.
“Uncovering one of the biggest tabloid news stories in Britain for the last decade, it reveals how Coleen turned amateur online sleuth to find an explanation for why private stories concerning herself and her family continued to appear in the media.
“It examines the circumstances that led to her infamous Instagram post that ‘broke the internet’ all the way to Coleen successfully defending herself in one of the UK’s highest-profile High Court defamation cases of recent years.
“As well as the case itself, it will explore how Coleen has had her life played out in public for the last 20 years. We know her as one of Britain’s most famous celebrities and wife of England’s record-scoring footballer Wayne Rooney.”
The real-life drama between Coleen and Rebekah, 41 – wife of footballer Jamie Vardy, 36 – first erupted in 2019.
Coleen said in a social media post she had carried out a months-long “sting operation” and fingered Rebekah as the person leaking “false stories” about her private life to the tabloids.
The WAG’s amateur detective work – which saw her dubbed Wagatha Christie in reference to crime writer Agatha Christie – prompted Rebekah to sue her for libel, with the case coming to a head in 2022 as the claim was heard at the High Court.
Rebekah lost the case, with the judge finding Coleen’s infamous “It’s ……………. Rebekah Vardy’s account” Instagram post, which named her old friend as the source of the leaks, as “substantially true”.
The Disney+ documentary, directed by Lucy Bowden, will also explore how Coleen’s life has played out in public for the last 20 years, as the childhood sweetheart and then wife of former England footballer Wayne, with whom she has four children.
‘Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story’ will be available on Hulu in the US, Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories.

The Exorcist: Believer director David Gordon Green wants to make a Bad Ronald musical

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ director David Gordon Green is keen to helm a ‘Bad Ronald’ musical.
The 1974 horror movie – which was directed by Buzz Kulik – tells the story of Ronald Wilby (Scott Jacoby) a disturbed young man who lives in the walls of a house, unbeknownst to the new family that moves in, and the filmmaker would love to present a new twist on the tale as his “grand finale”.
When SFX magazine asked David what other projects he would want to direct once he had finished with ‘The Exorcist’ franchise, he replied: “‘Bad Ronald The Musical’! I think that could exhaust everything I’ve got. Maybe that’s 10 years from now.
“That’s the icing on the cake. It’s my grand finale. It checks a lot of boxes for me, including something that I love: the undiscovered.
“It’s not every day you meet a ‘Bad Ronald’ fan, but it’s always meant something to me, since it disturbed me as a child.
“It could be a fun career move. I’d have to turn it into a musical, which would be the hard part. But we’ll see …”
As well as ‘The Exorcist: Believer’, David is set to direct ‘The Exorcist: Deceiver’, which is due for release on 18 April 2025.
He has teased that the movies “are connected – that’s the idea, very different but connected.”
He added: “Part of it is seeing how this movie is received and not just saying ‘let’s just replay the hits’, because that’s boring. If you know anything about my career, I don’t replay the hits. So if I’ve done it, got it, moving on.”
‘The Exorcist: Believer’ comes to cinemas on October 13.

Disney’s Wish has most watched trailer since Frozen 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Disney Animation’s ‘Wish’ trailer is the most watched for the studio since ‘Frozen 2’.
The trailer for the upcoming movie -starring Ariana DeBose – has earned 66.5 million views across online platforms and has surpassed views for the teaser trailer, released in April, by almost 20 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It has also become the most viewed Disney trailer on TikTok.
The film tells the story of 17-year old Asha, who makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force called Star.
However, this leads to trouble with King Magnifico, who sees himself as the only person who can dispense wishes.
Ariana voices Asha with Chris Pine as King Magnifico and Alan Tudyk taking on the voice role of Asha’s pet goat, Valentino.
Evan Peters, Harvey Guillén, Ramy Youssef, Niko Vargas, Natasha Rothwell, and Jennifer Kumiyama, also star in the movie.
Wish writer and Disney Animation Studios CCO Jennifer Lee previously revealed that Ariana inspired key elements of the character of Asha.
She told ScreenRant: “She’s a very open, expressive, warm person, and she’s very compassionate. And so, even the body language of Asha. Asha is one of our most relaxed and open, inviting characters, but she’s also a dancer, so there’s this incredible extension of her personality through her physicality. That’s on the simple animation side. But on the emotional side, she really cares deeply about that when you step forward, the impact you have.
“That all came from conversations, not just of her wonderful open silliness and comedy that she has, effervescence, I will say, which is captured in Asha, but the deep caring nature of her and the understanding of how hard it can be to speak the truth about something to someone you love. I think that, at the core, helped me to see, watch her wrestle. But it also is what gives Asha the courage to rise because she has to on behalf of those she cares about. That all was very inspired by Ariana.”

Natalie Portman thrilled with reaction to May December

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman has been thrilled by the reaction to her new movie ‘May December’.
The 42-year-old actress formed her own production company, MountainA, with friend Sophie Mas and their first movie recently sold to Netflix for $11 million after receiving rave reviews at Cannes.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sophie said: “We loved how unexpected it was. A lot of the reception to the movie so far has described it as campy, and I don’t know if we agree with that, but you really don’t know if you’re supposed to laugh, if it’s ironic, and that feels unique.
“When you make a film, you’re betting on the script, and we felt a conviction — but at Cannes, we were playing late at night, after ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. Julianne has an early line where she says, ‘I don’t think we have enough hot dogs,’ and the audience knew to laugh — so we felt that they understood the tone. We knew that the market, especially with the strike, would be tight – we financed the movie independently, but the Netflix sale felt like a testament to the work.”
The Todd Haynes-directed melodrama about an actress (Portman) studying the real-life subject of her next movie also stars Julianne Moore and Charles Melton and Sophie is excited for ‘Riverdale’ actor Melton to show what he can do.
She said: “Todd [Haynes] suggested Julianne right away, and Natalie had never played opposite her, so it felt very exciting. For Charles’ role, we looked at a few people. Being from France, I didn’t know ‘Riverdale’ — Todd and Natalie told me about it — but his audition was impeccable. He totally understood this man and his unusual journey. I’m excited for him to have this moment to show the world the variety of what he can do.”

Nicola Thorp pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Thorp is pregnant.
The 35-year-old actress and her actor fiance Nikesh Patel have revealed that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple made the announcement on Instagram with pictures from a professional photoshoot, which Nikesh captioned: “Some news”. Nicola reshared his post.
Nicola, who played Nicola Rubinstein in Corrie until 2018 and again briefly in 2019, announced her engagement to Nikesh, 38, in January.
Nikesh has starred in ‘Indian Summers’, ‘Starstruck’ and the mini-series ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.
He and Nicola have been dating since 2021, and they appeared together in the fifth series of Channel 4 show reality show ‘Celebrity Hunted’ earlier this year.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Nicola was terrorised for two years by a stalker known as “the Grim Reaper”.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress and activist told a court about how Ravinderjit Dhillon used 25 aliases to torment her online and threatened to sexually abuse her in front of her parents.
The star took to the stand in court in June as she opened up on an 89-page document she handed to the Met Police about his campaign of terror, which started with an obscene image he sent of himself in October 2018.
She told the court: “He became an army of men all wanting to do me harm, threats to rape me.
“I’ve spent most of my adult life fighting for the rights of women and doing so in the public eye has come with some personal cost.
“I became the target of the exact behaviour I was standing up against.”
She recalled messages sent by Dhillon describing himself as her “grim reaper”, adding: “He sent messages saying, ‘I’m going to be with you forever’, ‘I’m your grim reaper’. In one message he said 28 times he wasn’t going to leave me.”
She noted that he also claimed to be ‘Helena’ and said a friend followed her onto a train, apparently getting “so close he could smell her”.
He was convicted in April and had been remanded in custody before sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court.

Peter Kay defends Little Britain

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Kay has defended David Walliams and Matt Lucas’ controversial ‘Little Britain’ sketches.
The 50-year-old comedian previously worked with the pair and believes it is a “shame” they have been subject to so much criticism.
The Mirror reports that Kay writes in his new book ‘TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen’: “”I started to get invites from my peers to play characters in their shows, which was really lovely. Matt Lucas and David Walliams asked me if I’d like to appear in a Little Britain special they were filming called ‘Little Britain Abroad’.
“I was to play the younger brother of Dudley Punt (David Walliams). He’s just married his Thai bride, Ting Tong Macadangdang (Matt Lucas), in order to make an honest man/ woman of her. They go on their honeymoon to Belgium, where they meet up with my character. I live in a caravan park with my new 18-year-old virgin wife Ivanka (Julia Davis), ‘who’s set me back two hundred quid’.
“It was all very far from being politically correct but that’s what made it funny. It probably wouldn’t get made now.
“Sadly, Matt and David have taken a lot of flak in the past few years for the work they did. I think that’s a shame.”
He also believes social media and the media are to blame for the issues in comedy.
He writes: “Comedy is such a minefield, with political correctness changing it all the time. Sometimes for the greater good, most of the time not.
“Everybody’s a critic on social media. Something or somebody gets ‘slammed on Twitter’ (which might only be by a handful of people) and the press jump all over it.”

The 33-year-old reality TV star is thrilled about the “huge moment” in her life after she invested in independent hair care brand REHAB.
She wrote on Instagram: “A huge Moment In My Life. So… I have decided for the first time in my entire career to invest my own money into a small business and become a third of @rehabyourhair. Stacey posted a picture of herself signing a contract and explained she has been a fan of the business for a while and wants to see them grow.
She wrote: “A long while ago now I used a small business’ haircare product, I just loved everything about it. When I shared them on my instagram the women who started the business got in touch told me what an impact it made on them, and how they have been working so hard to get their products out there but it’s so hard as a small business to be seen. And when they are seen it’s difficult to fulfil orders etc. I started chatting to them, then met up with them and fell in love. I fell in love with their haircare collection, work ethic, company values morals their ideas for the future. There’s obviously only so far you can go without the right support financially audience reach so although it felt scary for me as it’s something I’ve never done before obviously I knew little about I decided to ask them if I could invest in Rehab. And become a part of the brand myself. And see if I can build and grow Rehab with them because I just believe in it so much. So I am incredibly excited to say, that as of today I am 1/3 owner of @rehabyourhair. I can’t put into words how incredible it feels to say that I am going to start a whole new chapter in my life championing incredible women in business. Ellie Leach ‘putting her all’ into Strictly after being cheated on: ‘It’s the perfect time!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Leach has vowed to “put her all” into ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after her boyfriend cheated on her.
The 22-year-old actress split from dancer Reagan Pettman in July after five years of dating and while she admitted it was “upsetting” that he had been unfaithful, she now sees it as the “perfect time” to concentrate on her new challenge.
She told The Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Being cheated on was upsetting, but now’s the perfect time to put my all into ‘Strictly’ and give that 500 percent.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star – who left her long-running role as Faye Windass on the ITV1 soap opera earlier this year after more than a decade on the cobbles – is competing alongside professional Vito Coppola, 31, on the BBC Latin and ballroom competition and went on to add that she hopes that taking part in the show will help improve her self-esteem.
She said: “Self-confidence is something I’ve always struggled with. As an actor, people don’t see that – they think you’re this confident person and you can do anything. I’m hoping Strictly will bring that for me, push me and make me realise I’m capable of things.”
Ellie also noted that despite being just two weeks into the competition, she has already “learned so much” from her professional partner and is trying to remember to “praise” herself no matter how tough rehearsals get.
She added: “Vito has taught me so much already. He tells me, ‘It’s a competition with yourself. If you’re tired, fight it, if you’re stressed, fight it’. I also don’t praise myself enough, I just focus on the wrong. But then he’ll say to me, ‘Yeah, but you just did that.”

Jacqueline Jossa announces full-time EastEnders return: ‘It’s like coming home!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Jossa is returning to ‘EastEnders’.
The 30-year-old actress played Lauren Branning on the BBC One soap opera from 2010 until 2018 and made a brief guest appearance earlier this year but is now “really excited” to be making a full-time return to the show.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I’m really excited. It’s such an amazing time to be back as there is so much buzz around ‘EastEnders’ at the moment. I’ve been watching and loving it like a fan.
Walford holds a special place in my heart, so it really does feel like coming home!”
Producer Chris Clenshaw is “delighted” that Jacqueline is returning to the show as he teased tat there is “plenty of unfinished business” for her character.
He said: “I’m delighted to welcome Jacqueline back to the role of Lauren Branning. We only saw Lauren on-screen a few of months ago, but her return left plenty of unfinished business between her and the Beales. The Branning family have a long history of being at the heart of the drama in Walford, and we’re thrilled to have Jacqueline back in the Square as she continues that family tradition.”
According to the outlet, Jacqueline will be back filming in the coming weeks but an insider claimed that bosses are trying to keep quiet about any details of her return storyline.
An insider said: “Jacqueline’s return as Lauren Branning is going to spell lots of drama in Albert Square.
“The character has a lot of history and scores to settle, she is definitely going to bring the drama. Bosses are staying tight-lipped about when fans will see her return on-screen. But it’s set to be around the end of the year and likely to coincide with the soap’s legendary festive storylines.
“Her old castmates can’t wait to start filming with her too as she’s such a pro and has a great sense of humour.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner – who also returned to ‘EastEnders’ in December 2022 for the funeral of Dot Cotton (June Brown) – recently admitted that it was the “best day of [her] life” when she got the job and found herself working with famed actors Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) and Jake Wood (Max Branning).
Speaking on the ‘Soap from the Box’ podcast, she said: “It was the best day of my life when I went and saw The Vic for the first time.
“Jake Wood took me around. I was buzzing to meet him, I loved the Brannings, I loved Bradley. I was Lacey Turner’s biggest fan. I still am, I bloody love her. ‘EastEnders’ would have been my ideal job and I thought in my head ‘That is the job for me!’ because I am East End through and through, I didn’t have to change my voice. I thought Lacey was so good and natural and then I was working with her! I had huge parts in all of the ‘Who Killed Archie?’ storyline. It was crazy!

Eddie Izzard channelled stand-up energy in Doctor Jekyll

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Izzard’s own stand-up comedy inspired her performance in ‘Doctor Jekyll’.
The 61-year-old trans comic will play the dual roles of the calm and sweet Nina Jekyll, and the maniacal Rachel Hyde in the retelling of the classic story and wanted to harness the energy of her live show for her latter character.
During an interview with SFX magazine where she was asked how she approached the final scene where Hyde brutally beats a man to death with a stick, the comedian and actor said: “I had to go somewhere at the end and I honestly wasn’t sure what was going to come out.
“When I do stand-up, and when that’s flying, I don’t quite know what’s coming out of me. And I knew if I could get to that place in the drama, that would be interesting, where the person you’re acting against is thinking, ‘Where’s this coming from?'”
Eddie also admitted that playing the demented Hyde took a toll on the actor.
She said: “I enjoyed it, but yeah, it was tough. Really tough. A lot of retakes.
“I was just trying to be open and channel the character. It was intense, but it’s great. And it’s a Hammer film now and that’s just a beautiful place to be.”
Despite starring in the horror, Eddie admitted she isn’t really a “horror partaker” as a viewer, but had a lot of fun working on the film.
When quizzed if she was a horror fan, she replied: “I like the early Hammers. I found them scary, but only to a certain extent.
“Later horror films – everything post the ’70s and ’80s really – I go, ‘Woah, jeez!’ They’re a bit too much for me.
“I’m not really a horror partaker. But it’s great to do them because, as an actor, you can really let rip!”
‘Doctor Jekyll’ will release on October 27.
The film is produced by Hammer Films, the studio behind horror classics ‘Dracula’ (1958) ‘Quatermass And The Pit’ (1967) and ‘Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter’ (1974). It will be the first movie released by the studio since 2012’s ‘The Woman In Black’, which starred Daniel Radcliffe.

John Waters ‘doesn’t understand’ why Hairspray was a hit over his other films

OHMYGOSSIP — John Waters “doesn’t understand” why ‘Hairspray’ was a hit over some of his other films.
The 77-year-old filmmaker wrote and directed the 1988 cult hit – which starred Ricki Lake as an overweight teenager who tackles racism after finding fame on a local dance show – and whilst it was a success at the box office, some of his other movies like ‘A Dirty Shame’ were not despite his insistence that they have the “same message” in their stories.
He told MovieWeb: “I’m amazed all my films aren’t hits! I don’t get why ‘Hairspray’ was a hit but ‘A Dirty Shame’ wasn’t. I mean, people can argue that point with me, but to me, my films have all said the same thing.”
‘Hairspray’ was later adapted into a Tony Award-winning musical in 2002, which became a blockbuster movie in 2007 starring John Travolta, but ‘A Dirty Shame’ – which focused on a group of sex addicts with unique fetishes – lost $13 million at the box office and John went on ti insist that both films are just about “accepting” others for who they are.
He said: “They have the same message, which is to don’t judge other people unless you know the whole thing, and try to be more accepting and laugh at yourself first, and then you can laugh at the craziness of others, but you have to learn to laugh at yourself first. And that’s how I direct a movie. And hey, I didn’t know what I was doing when I started. You look at those movies, if you like them, you say that they were raw; if you don’t like them, you say we’re amateurs.”

Emma Stone had to be ‘free’ while shooting sex scenes in Poor Things

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Stone wanted to film her sex scenes in ‘Poor Things’ without “any judgement”, according to the director.
The 34-year-old actress stars as a young woman brought back to life by a scientist in the upcoming fantasy film based on the novel by Alasdair Gray and director Yorgos Lanthimos has now revealed that it was “clear” from the start of production that she had to be “free” whilst shooting the racy scenes.
He told People: “It was clear from the beginning, but also from the novel, from the script, from my discussions with Emma, as well, and how we came up with those scenes. She had to be free; there should be no judgment. The same way she learns about language and human suffering and love and science and politics, the same way she should be equally free about sex and anything else..”
The filmmaker went on to hail the ‘Cruella’ star as an “incredible” actress to work with and has “no idea” how she brought such a tricky character alive on screen.
He said: “She’s just incredible! The vulnerability of it and the sensitivity and the humor of it — it’s just so difficult to do. I just don’t know how she did it.”
Earlier this year, Emma described the role as one of the most “joyous” she has ever played.
She told Vogue: “She was the most joyous character in the world to play, because she has no shame about anything. She’s new, you know? I’ve never had to build a character before that didn’t have things that had happened to them or had been put on them by society throughout their lives. It was an extremely freeing experience to be her.”

Shirley Ballas shares update on her boyfriend Danny Taylor: ‘I haven’t seen him since August!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas hasn’t seen her boyfriend since August.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing judge, 63, has been dating Danny Taylor, 50, – who has a 13-year-old son from a previous relationship – for more than three years but admitted just weeks after the BBC Latin and ballroom show returned to screens in mid-September that she is “always busy” and hasn’t actually seen him in over a month.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I think Danny and I have a very nice relationship and he is, by far, the kindest and nicest man that I have met. But we went up to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh last year and we were all ready to go and then he didn’t seem ready. I didn’t get a good feeling from it, so I thought, ‘Nah, it’s not for me’. It’s nice if I can come and go. Danny is always busy, just like I am, and has a 13-year-old son. I think the last time I saw him was August, when he joined me on my week-long Skyathlon challenge for mental health charity CALM — so it has been a long time.”
However, the dance champion went on to insist that she is satisfied with their “unconventional” arrangement and she is not looking for anyone else.
She said: “We have a unique, unconventional relationship. It’s built on trust. I don’t want anybody else and, as far as I know, he doesn’t want anybody else and we talk most days on FaceTime. It is what it is, and I’m happy with the way it is. My best friend says that when Danny and I are together, I light up like bulbs. We had a lovely holiday at the beginning of the year, and the time we do have is precious and is focused on us two.
“There is no point in being under each other’s feet when you haven’t got time for each other. At our age, it works.”
