Holly Willoughby QUITS This Morning: ‘This is such a difficult goodbye”

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby has quit ‘This Morning’.
The 42-year-old star has hosted the ITV1 magazine show since 2009 but announced on Tuesday (10.10.23) evening that she will not be back on the sofa again and thanked everyone for their support over the years.
She wrote on Instagram: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.
To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.”
Holly – who initially hosted alongside Phillip Schofield but following his departure earlier this year has featured alongside the likes of Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, and Craig Doyle – continued her statement by thanking the viewers of the show as she recalled a quote from 1990s presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan.
Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.
She said: “Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’. It’s been an honour to just be part of it’s story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. ”
The ‘Dancing on Ice’ presenter is married to producer Dan Baldwin and has Harry, 13, Belle, 11, and eight-year-old Chester with him and concluded her statement by noting that she feels as if she has to step down for the sake of her family.
She added: “Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family. I will miss you all so much.”
In the comments section, Holly’s former co-stars rushed to send their support.
Alison wrote: “This is a very sad day ! Love you” whilst Vanessa Feltz said: “We will miss you so very much my darling .”
Holly’s departure comes just days after it was announced she would be taking an “extended break” from the show after a a man appeared in court in Essex over a plot to kidnap and murder her.
Gavin Plumb, from Harlow, Essex, has been charged with soliciting a man named David Nelson to commit murder, and incitement to commit kidnap between October 2nd and 5th.
He is accused of planning to assemble a “kidnap and restraint kit” and inviting the other man to travel to the UK to carry out the alleged offences.
A source told The Mirror: “Holly has been left distraught by the news. This has been an absolutely horrible week for her.
“At the moment she really is getting through things hour by hour. Her absolute priority is her own safety and that of her family – who are supporting her through this incredibly difficult time.
“There has been no discussion about when, or if, she will return to the ‘This Morning’ sofa. No decisions have been made about that. But given the terrifying things she has learned this week, the question of returning to work could not be further from her mind.”

Writing on Instagram, she said: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to ‘This Morning’.
“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.

“I will miss you all so much.”

Arlene Phillips insists Strictly judges ‘go on too long’

OHMYGOSSIP — Arlene Phillips says the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star judges “go on far too long” when they are critiquing the contestants.
The 80-year-old former dancer was a judge on the BBC show between 2004 and 2009 and she’s now weighed in on the current crop of experts on the panel – Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood – insisting they spend too long giving their verdicts on the performances.
She told OK! magazine: “The one thing about ‘Strictly’ that I don’t really enjoy any more is the segment with the judges’ comment. I think they go on far too long. I usually just fast-forward those bits.”
However, Arlene is adamant she’s a big fan of newest just Anton, adding: “I do think Anton has made a great addition to the show, he was always made to be a judge. It’s his likeability.”
She also revealed she’s still good friends with Craig and Bruno. She explained: “I still catch up with Craig and Bruno when I can. I’ve known Bruno more than half of my life.
“We met in the late 70s and have been really close friends ever since. And I’d love to see Craig more but he lives quite far away, but we message each other all the time.”
It comes after Arlene admitted she had a strong bond with some of her former co-stars but actually couldn’t “stand” others.
Speaking on ‘BBC Breakfast’, she said: “Yeah, you form a bond with some, you actually can’t stand others but you know that’s life but you do form a bond and obviously I miss being a part of that crazy, crazy life. ”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant made the remark while talking about the show’s “beautiful” tribute to former judge Len Goodman – who died this year aged 78 after being diagnosed with bone cancer.
She said: “Oh my gosh, I thought the tribute was beautiful and I’m also so pleased that on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in America, they’re going to do a massive tribute to him too. “It was such a loss, and it was so sudden for many of us because only a few people knew, Bruno knew, but few people actually knew. It was a real shock, particularly as Len and I, we were there at the pilot. “We made the pilot and it was wonderfully, brilliantly chaotic, and Len and I spent many hours trying to form what the show would be and we were the bodies that were lucky enough to do that.”

Ridley Scott blasts Blade Runner critics after re-watching ‘special’ movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ridley Scott has hit out at ‘Blade Runner’ critics who blasted the movie as “slow”, after he recently re-watched the film for the first time in two decades.
The 85-year-old filmmaker has insisted that after seeing his 1982 sci-fi classic again, he stands by his opinion that the motion picture is “not slow”, and he has told anyone who thinks so to “go f*** yourself”.
He told Total Film magazine: “I hadn’t seen ‘Blade Runner’ for 20 years. Really.
“But I just watched it. And it’s not slow.
“The information coming at you is so original and interesting, talking about biological creations, and mining off-world, which, in those days, they said was silly. I say, ‘Go f*** yourself.’ ”
Scott knew at the time he was making a “very special movie”, and that has been justified as his motion picture has been used as a major influence for many sci-fi films since.
He added: “[The shoot] was a very bad experience for me. I had horrendous partners. Financial guys, who were killing me every day. I’d been very successful in the running of a company, and I knew I was making something very, very special.
“So I would never take no for an answer. But they didn’t understand what they had. You shoot it, and you edit it, and you mix it. And by the time you’re halfway through, everyone’s saying it’s too slow.
“You’ve got to learn, as a director, you can’t listen to anybody.
“I knew I was making something very, very special. And now it’s one of the most important science-fiction films ever made which everybody feeds off. Every bloody film.”
In August, Scott told how he regretted not being able to direct the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel.
The filmmaker found himself in a difficult position having to choose between ‘Blade Runner 2049’ and ‘Alien: Covenant’ due to a scheduling clash, and he wishes he’d worked on the follow-up to the 1982 movie.
Speaking to Empire magazine, he said: “I shouldn’t have had to make that decision. But I had to. I should have done ‘Blade Runner 2’.”

Carey Mulligan insists Maestro isn’t a Leonard Bernstein biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Carey Mulligan has insisted ‘Maestro’ isn’t a Leonard Bernstein biopic.
The actress plays the composer’s wide Felicia Montealegre opposite Bradley Cooper as Bernstein and she’s declared the movie is actually more about the couple’s marriage than the celebrated composer/conductor’s rise to fame.
During an interview with Vogue magazine conducted before the start of the Hollywood actors strike, she explained: “I know people will talk about Maestro as a biopic, but not. It’s a movie about a marriage – a very complicated marriage.”
The 38-year-old actress went on to reveal her preparations for the role was intense and included a “dream workshop” with her co-star and writer/director Cooper.
She told the publication: “This was the most intense preparation I’ve ever done for a film … I guess Bradley’s been doing this kind of thing forever, using your dreams to connect your subconscious to the character’s, but it was new to me. But I had to go all in.”
Cooper also spoke to the magazine before the strike, and added of his co-star: “I knew her ability. All I asked of her was to please do the prep with me; I said: ‘Will you go down this road where we’re basically going to bare our souls to each other?’ And she was like: ‘Okay, let’s do it, I’m game’.”
It was previously revealed that Cooper endured a five-hour makeup process to transform into Bernstein.
Oscar-winning make-up artist Kazu Hiro explained how he and his team would spend all night applying the cosmetics so Cooper could be behind the camera in character. Hiro told an audience at the picture’s New York Film Festival screening earlier this month: “The last stage, he had covered pretty much everywhere, the bodysuit and arms. That took over 5 hours. “The last stage, the whole time, our call time was 1 in the morning. “The other thing was he wanted makeup to be finished before the crew call, so he would appear as Lenny to set up the shoot and everything. That also kind of made our call time two hours earlier than normal, so that was quite tough.” Hiro explained that the length of time Bradley spent in the makeup chair varied as they filmed scenes from across Bernstein’s life. He said: “(We had to) keep adding because as he gets older, we had to add more elements. The younger stage was the nose and lips and chin and a wig. After the third stage, he started having cheek and neck (additions).”
Hiro’s work sparked outcry as Cooper decided to wear a prosthetic nose in his portrayal of Bernstein, who was Jewish, and the make-up artist did not intend to cause offence. He said: “I wasn’t expecting that to happen. I feel sorry that I hurt some people’s feelings. “My goal was and Bradley’s goal was to portray Lenny as authentic as possible. Lenny had a really iconic look that everybody knows – there’s so many pictures out there because he’s photogenic, too – such a great person and also inspired so many people. “So we wanted to respect the look too, on the inside. So that’s why we did several different tests and went through lots of decisions and that was the outcome in the movie.”

Putting her family first: Holly Willoughby quit This Morning after emotional chats with family

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby quit ‘This Morning’ this week after discussing the tough decision with her family over the weekend.
The 42-year-old TV presenter has co-hosted the brunch-time show for 14 years, but she is said to have “personally told” the show’s boss Martin Frizell and ITV Daytime’s managing director Emma Gormley about her decision to leave, in what were “very emotional” conversations.
Holly – who has 13-year-old son Harry, 11-year-old daughter Belle, and eight-year-old Chester with her husband Dan Baldwin – wants to “put her family first”.
The star has been absent from the programme since last week, when a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder over an alleged plot to kidnap the TV presenter.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “There have been a lot of tears over the past few days. Holly spoke with her children and then with her husband Dan and her parents at length.
“She absolutely loves ‘This Morning’ and has devoted herself to the show. But recent events have changed everything and Holly has to put her family first.
“Holly personally told ‘This Morning’ boss Martin Frizell and ITV Daytime’s managing director Emma Gormley. Both conversations were very emotional.
“They obviously wanted her to stay, but said they would completely support her decision.
“ITV have been looking after Holly and have provided a support package to her as well as the offer of counselling if she needs it.”
Holly is said to have been “considering other opportunities” since the summer, following the departure of her former co-host Phillip Schofield, who quit the show after more than 20 years after admitting he lied to bosses about an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.
The source added: “This was an incredibly hard decision for Holly but, in all honesty, she hasn’t been truly happy at work since the fallout with Phil. Seeing him hung out to dry has been hard and took its toll.
“Fourteen years in any workplace is a long stretch, and she has been considering other opportunities over the summer. The time to leave feels right – albeit under the darkest of circumstances.”
Holly confirmed on Tuesday afternoon (10.10.23) that she had quit ‘This Morning’.
She wrote on Instagram: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to ‘This Morning’.
“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.
“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.”
Holly referenced former ‘This Morning’ presenters, husband and wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, who insisted the show belongs to the viewers rather than the presenters on the sofa.
She added: “Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’.
“It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family.
“I will miss you all so much.”

Richard Madeley praises ‘brave, wise and courageous’ Holly Willoughby for quitting This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madeley has praised Holly Willoughby for doing “a very brave, wise and courageous thing” after she quit ‘This Morning’.
The 67-year-old TV presenter – who co-hosted the brunchtime show with his wife Judy Finnigan for 13 years from 1988 to 2001 – insisted Holly “genuinely puts her family first”, and he thinks she has done “exactly the right thing for her own mental health” by departing the programme after 14 years.
He told ‘Good Morning Britain’: “I think, and Judy agrees with me, we were talking about this when we heard the news yesterday afternoon, that Holly has done a very brave, and wise and courageous thing.
“We know, here in the building, that Holly genuinely puts family first. She puts her family first, and her career second. That really is the order.
“People watching don’t know that. They just see Holly the professional.
“I think given the year that she’s had, all the things she’s had to put up, and then this terrible thing that happened last week, that we can’t talk about because it’s under law … given that she’s done the show for 14 years, which is a year longer than Judy and I did it, I think it’s give her a chance to step back and take stock.
“And she’s put her family first. She’s going to focus on them for a while.
“She’ll come back. Not to ‘This Morning’. But she’ll come back to something else on telly.
“I think she’s done exactly the right thing. For her own mental health, as much as anything else.”
Holly – who has 13-year-old son Harry, 11-year-old daughter Belle, and eight-year-old Chester with her husband Dan Baldwin – has been absent from the programme since last week, when a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder over an alleged plot to kidnap the TV presenter.
Richard has admitted she “would’ve been shaken” by the events.
He said: “It wasn’t just some random threat online.
“There was some substance to it, to the extent that a man is in custody. Clearly, she would’ve been shaken by that.”
Also this year, Holly saw her former ‘This Morning’ co-host Phillip Schofield quit the show after admitting he lied to bosses about an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.
Holly confirmed she had quit the programme on Tuesday afternoon (10.11.23), and she referenced Richard and Judy in her departure statement.
She wrote on Instagram: “Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’.”
On Wednesday (11.10.23), Richard insisted ‘This Morning’ will indeed go on without Holly, because it’s the content and format “that matters”.
Speaking to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on ‘GMB’, he said: “When we left a lot of people said, ‘That’s the end of ‘This Morning’, because it is Richard and Judy.’
“It was obviously very flattering, but we knew it wasn’t true. Because the show isn’t about the faces, the presenters, it’s about the format.
“Obviously the presenters have to know what they’re doing, but it’s the content and format that matters.
“It will carry on.”
Susanna concluded the interview by wishing Holly luck.
She said: “We send her all our very best. We really do. Good luck, Holly. Whatever you do, massive success. And lots of love to your family, too.”

‘Give cinema some respect’: Martin Scorsese defends marathon Killers of the Flower Moon runtime

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Scorsese has defended the lengthy running time of his film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’.
The legendary director’s new epic Western is 206 minutes long but he doesn’t think that should put off audiences, particularly in an era when many people spend hours binge-watching TV.
Scorsese told the Hindustan Times newspaper: “People say it’s three hours, but come on, you can sit in front of the TV and watch something for five hours.
“Also, there are many people who watch theatre for 3.5 hours. There are real actors on stage, you can’t get up and walk around. You give it that respect. Give cinema some respect.”
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is released in cinemas later this month and will also stream on Apple TV+, although Scorsese would prefer audiences to see it on the big screen.
The 80-year-old filmmaker said: “In the case of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, it should be seen on the big screen. Are we intending to make a blockbuster? No, we’re making a movie, which should (be) watched on the big screen.
“Other pictures I made? Maybe not. Sometimes, it’s the strength of the picture too, if it plays well on a smaller screen, that’s interesting. ‘Killers’ could play on a small screen, but in order to truly immerse yourself, you should take out the time.”
Scorsese has helmed movies including ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ during a celebrated career in the film industry and he broke down his approach to directing.
He explained: “I played with each film in a way that I could find a new way to tell the story. Sometimes, a story without a plot. I like plots, but I often find them tiresome to create.
“You have to find the visual and aural way to tell a story through your heart. The visuals and the sounds should reflect how you feel. And that means editing or not editing, when not to cut.”

‘They’re wonderful together’: Ocean’s prequel producer Josey McNamara excited for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will “do right by” the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise.
The ‘Barbie’ stars are set to reunite in the prequel to the heist movies and producer Josey McNamara is looking forward to seeing the pair share the screen again.
He told Games Radar at the BFI London Film Festival: “They’re wonderful together. The more projects even outside of that we can have them do would be amazing.
“I can’t really say much, but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”
The new ‘Ocean’s’ movie has been in development since last year and is being directed by Jay Roach from a script by Carrie Solomon. Margot and her husband Tom Ackerley are producing for their LuckyChap Entertainment company.
Roach previously confirmed that the film will be set in Monte Carlo in 1962 with the world-famous Monaco Grand Prix as the backdrop and Margot and Ryan in undisclosed roles.
The ‘Austin Powers’ filmmaker said: “The Monaco Grand Prix is the backdrop and there’s a big famous shipping magnate who has a yacht. It’s not inexpensive.
“And I wanted it to be old-fashioned. Margot brought it to me as a kind of old-fashioned epic love story slash adventure disguised as a heist. It’s a heist movie still, but it’s very much a love story.
“And we were both inspired by Hitchcock.’To Catch a Thief’ but also ‘Notorious’.”
Roach added: “Originally there were some questions about whether it would be weird to have (Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling) together again after ‘Barbie’. But I think there’s just some pairings you want to see over and over again.”
The ‘Ocean’s’ franchise dates back to the 1960 Rat Pack film ‘Ocean’s 11’, which inspired Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy that began in 2001 and features Hollywood giants George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

‘It’s a shame’ Lorraine Kelly wishes Holly Willoughby well after she quits This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly has admitted it is “a shame” Holly Willoughby has quit ‘This Morning’.
The 63-year-old TV presenter says it must have been a “terribly difficult decision” for Holly to announce her departure from the programme after 14 years, but Lorraine is looking forward to seeing what the ‘Dancing on Ice’ presenter does next.
Speaking on her ‘Lorraine’ show, she said: “‘Dancing On Ice’ is coming in the new year and there will be loads of other projects, of course there will.
“It just is a shame. It’s just a shame and obviously, Holly, we wish you all the very best for you and your family.
“I know this must have been a terribly difficult decision because she loves the show.”
Holly – who has 13-year-old son Harry, 11-year-old daughter Belle, and eight-year-old Chester with her husband Dan Baldwin – has been absent from ‘This Morning’ since last week, when a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder over an alleged plot to kidnap the TV presenter.
Lorraine also appeared on the show as a guest last week, and she admitted it felt as though things were “getting back to normal” on the programme.
She added: “Helen [Addis] and I were on the show last week, I think it was last Tuesday… and it was lovely. Holly was so relaxed and so happy. Her and Josie obviously got on like a house on fire.
“The whole place just felt as if things are getting back to normal, do you know what I mean? And then, out of the blue, this happens.
“This horrible, awful thing that she is having to deal with. Horrific. Terrible.”
Holly’s departure comes after her former ‘This Morning’ co-host Phillip Schofield quit the show this year after admitting he lied to bosses about an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.

‘I don’t want to retire!’ Coronation Street legend Barbara Knox won’t leave cobbles after hitting 90

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ legend Barbara Knox doesn’t want to retire after turning 90.
The actress brings to life one of the ITV1 soap’s longest-running characters, Rita Sullivan – whose first appearance in the show was in 1964 before she became a regular fixture in Weatherfield in 1972 – and just because Barbara entered her 10th decade of life in September, she will not be saying goodbye to everyone on the cobbles anytime soon.
Speaking to Bradley Walsh, 63, in the ITV1 and ITVX special ‘Barbara Knox At 90’ – which airs on Friday (13.10.23) and was created to celebrate her milestone birthday – she says: “Unbelievable really isn’t it? How the years have gone. And what we’ve crammed into the years and how fortunate I have been, in being in the Street for about 50 or 60 of them. I’ve lost track.
“So wonderful, really I’ve been very fortunate. I can’t believe all these years have gone by and I’m looking at 90. I can’t believe that. And if they’re listening. I don’t want to retire.”
Barbara – who has three grown-up children, Maxine, John and Amanda, with her first husband Dennis Mullaney – revealed she got her first taste of “showbiz” when her parents took her on holiday to the northern seaside town of Blackpool during her younger years.
She says: “Back in the day, Blackpool was the place to go. My parents used to bring me every year from seven to about 10. Because during the war there was restrictions on how far you could travel.
“There was something for everybody. Being a little girl, I went to the tower to the children’s concert.
“It was in the afternoon and it was very famous. We went and we sat cross legged. And then the little kids come on singing for about half an hour. That was my entertainment in the afternoon. I liked that very much. Maybe that was the next nudge towards showbiz.”
‘Barbara Knox at 90’ airs Friday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby’s former colleagues Rochelle Humes and Craig Doyle paid tribute to her time on ‘This Morning’ today (11.10.23) after she quit the show.
The pair, who hosted Wednesday’s episode, sent their “love, best wishes, and respect” to the 42-year-old TV presenter, who confirmed on Tuesday (10.10.23) that she had departed the programme after 14 years.
Opening the show, Rochelle said: “Of course, we want to start by sending our love, best wishes, and respect to our Holly.”
Craig added: “Last night, Holly made what we know would’ve been a heartbreaking decision to leave ‘This Morning’ after 14 years.”
The pair admitted Holly had found it hard to deal with “recent events”.
Rochelle added: “Holly loved her job here and was really looking forward to the future of the show, but recent events, especially in the past week, have been hard to deal with.
“And she is quite rightly putting her family first.”
Craig said: “On behalf of everyone here in front and behind the camera, we just loved working with Holly.
“She made coming to work so much fun.
“We’re all really, really sad and are going to miss her.”
Rochelle insisted Holly would “forever be one of us” following her departure.
She explained: “Holly said she is incredibly proud of what she has achieved on this show, and so are we.
“She will forever be one of us.”
Craig added: “But, as Holly Willoughby knows only too well … the show must go on.”
The pair then continued with the show.
It comes after Holly released a statement on Tuesday afternoon confirming she had left ‘This Morning’.

‘I wish it did!’ Kelvin Fletcher says playing a farmer on Emmerdale didn’t prepare him for reality

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelvin Fletcher says being in ‘Emmerdale’ didn’t prepare him for the realities of farming.
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star opted to forgo playing farmer Andy Sugden in the ITV1 soap after two decades and went on to pursue an agricultural life on his 120-acre farm in the Peak District, on which he has an array of animals, such as sheep, pigs, goats and alpacas with his wife Liz Marsland, 32, and their four kids Marnie, six, Milo, four, and 17-month-old twins Mateusz and Maximus.
But he claims life in the show’s Yorkshire Dales did not provide him a transferable “skill set”.
The 39-year-old actor told OK! magazine: “I wish it did. I once said that what I know about farming you could write on the back of a stamp. I used to love filming those scenes but very rarely were the scenes about farming.
“The irony is that I played a farmer for 20 years and pretended to be one, and now I’m doing that. It’s just a bit bizarre isn’t it? But there’s no skill set I can transfer.”
Kelvin admitted he and Liz have been on a “journey” learning about farming, but it wasn’t a career they had planned for themselves.
He said: “We’ve really been on a journey. We’re not experts by any stretch, but we’re really taking this seriously and we’re enjoying it.
“We’ve got four children, 150 sheep, five goats, 36 pigs, three alpacas with three more coming next week – and a dog and a cat. We didn’t really plan to farm. We found ourselves with a few sheep and then it snowballed from there. Everyone always used to tell us, ‘Farming is just a way of life’ and that’s truly the only way to describe it.”

‘We all thought we could be at risk! Sue Nicholls feared being killed off on Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Nicholls feared she would be killed off on ‘Coronation Street’ once her on-screen son Stephen Reid became a villain.
The 79-year-old actress knows there is always a “risk” that her character Audrey Roberts could meet her maker and that increased when Todd Boyce’s character went down a dark path, but her concerns haven’t completely disappeared.
When asked if she thought it might be the end of Audrey once Stephen became a villain, Sue – who has been involved in the soap since 1972 – said: “Yes I did. I think we all thought that we could be at risk.
“Actually, I still think that what has happened with Stephen could see Audrey off, we are all only on one-year contracts so you never know.
“The aftermath of what happens this week and the confrontation with Stephen does have a profound effect on Audrey, she is a victim in many respects and how will she cope with that.”
Sue is enjoying how the storyline is giving her the chance to work with more stars of the ITV1 soap, like Chris Gascoyne, 55, who plays Peter Barlow, who she has “loved” doing scenes with.
She said: “I do love that feeling of everyone being involved. The cast is very big these days, so I don’t often get to work with a lot of them, and particularly in the past few years we have all been very much with our immediate group of characters.
“I have never had scenes with Chris Gascoyne before, ever. I loved working with him on this storyline. It is interesting to work with someone new, you get a different energy from the scene.”
The ex ‘Crossroads’ star confessed she will “miss” Todd – who first came to Weatherfield in 1996 and has done three stints on the show in the last 27 years – because he is a “joy”.
Sue said: “Oh of course I am going to miss him, we miss having him around already.
“I absolutely loved working with him. I love Todd and I have to say I have a lot of love for Stephen. I’ve got to say I can’t not love Stephen.
“Todd’s a joy, he’s delightful. He has worked so hard and he has had so many days full of long scenes and he has put his all into creating this character, I think it’s been wonderful.
“I’ve been lucky, because I’ve had a very, very good story, beautifully written. I know I’ll miss him and I’m going to have to stay in touch with him because I have known him for such a very long time.”
