Anton Du Beke ‘hated everybody’ before Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke “hated everybody” before he joined ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 57-year-old dancer has revealed that he really struggled with anger issues before he joined the BBC show back in 2004.
Anton told the ‘How to be 60’ podcast: “I was a lunatic at 26. I was so driven and determined, it was almost destructive.
“I’d get frustrated and so angry all the time and I hated everybody. I just wanted to beat everybody.
“It was a really competitive world. I didn’t want to be your friend, no interest in that at all. I wanted to beat you really badly, I wanted to beat you a lot.”
Anton used to view relationships as a “distraction”, as he was so focused on his career.
He said: “I didn’t have time for relationships. I couldn’t be doing with any of that, it was a distraction. What did they used to say with boxers – hanky-panky the night before a big fight weakens the legs.
“I didn’t have time to devote to anything. I had to practice. Because if I wasn’t doing it, there’d be somebody somewhere practising, or having a lesson and I was at the pictures smooching. Winning was everything.”
‘Strictly’ ultimately helped to change Anton’s outlook, as he realised that the show is primarily about the celebrities.
Anton – who now sits on the ‘Strictly’ judging panel – explained: “I’m this competitive guy, eyeballs out, everything at 100 miles an hour and then I walk into the studio with Lesley Garrett on day one for rehearsal and the winning wasn’t important to me.
“I’d like to have won it, but it wasn’t important because it wasn’t about me.”

Shirley Ballas set to launch a steamy new novel

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas’ steamy novel is based on her life.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star wants the public to “guess” what is fact and what is fiction in her new book, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’.
Shirley, 63 – who wrote her memoir, ‘Behind the Sequins’, in 2020 – told Virgin Radio: “There were so many stories I wanted to write. 50-odd years of experience they didn’t want me to put it in my autobiography.
“So I talked to my mum and she said, ‘How about you write them in fiction and then have the readers guess, did I really do that or witness that, or is it fiction?'”
Meanwhile, Shirley recently revealed that she’s “taken steps” to deal with social media trolling.
The TV star is ultimately eager to “get [her] mind in a good place”.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve taken steps.
“I’ve been to the Juicy Oasis with Jason Vale for over a week and I have also taken yoga classes with a master called Kenny. He showed me all the things I should do to get my mind in a good place.
“I have also hired Harry, who is 21 and a university maths guru and he’s come on board to sift through all my social media. He’s been taking over my platform pretty much along with my son. If that’s what it takes, then so be it.”
Shirley admitted that she actually struggles to switch off because of the online trolls.
Shirley said: “Sometimes at night, I lie there and wonder, ‘Are they suffering? Are they lonely? Is it funny to them?’ This whole experience has made me much more vigilant.
“I cannot say that I leave my front door unless I am on point. I never relax. It has changed my life completely I would say.”

Big Brother house ‘hit by security scare’

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Big Brother’ house has been hit by a security scare.
Staff members recently confronted a YouTuber who was attempting to fly a drone over the house and the surrounding TV studios.
A spokesperson for the show told The Sun newspaper: “We have robust and rigorous security measures in place across our site for the safety of the ‘Big Brother’ house, production team and Housemates.
“Safety and welfare is always a priority.”
The YouTuber reportedly claimed that he hacked the ‘Big Brother’ radio systems, meaning he was able to eavesdrop on the conversations between members of the production team.
A security team tried to remove the man from the area but he initially refused to leave, arguing that he was on a public highway and that his efforts were simply “fair game”.
‘Big Brother’s new series – which is hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best – debuted on ITV over the weekend.
The broadcaster announced a “welfare package” for the contestants before the long-awaited launch show.
ITV said in a statement: “All housemates will be supported with an individual support plan that includes sessions with the show’s mental health professionals prior to entering the house, throughout their time in the house and beyond.
“Housemates will be required to adhere to a social media blackout and will undergo respect and inclusion training to set out expectations around use of language and acceptable behaviour in the house.
“The welfare protocols in place for ‘Big Brother’ housemates have evolved over the show’s more than 20-year global history.
“The protocols in place for the 2023 ITV series have been evaluated and reviewed with ITV’s compliance and Duty of Care team, the mental health professionals engaged for this series and ‘Big Brother’s welfare team, including Banijay UK’s Head of Welfare.”

Freddie Flintoff ‘set for TV comeback in 2024’

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff is set to make his TV return in 2024.
The 45-year-old star suffered serious injuries after flipping an open-topped car while shooting a ‘Top Gear’ feature in December, but he’s now plotting his TV comeback, after taking some time away to recover.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Freddie is a hugely popular TV star and any channel or streamer would be thrilled to sign up one of his shows.
“His return to the limelight is something both telly execs and the public have been longing for and thankfully he now seems ready to return to doing what he loves.”
The former England cricket captain recently enjoyed a coaching stint with the national team.
But Freddie remains committed to his TV career and he could even revive ‘Chasing Cars’, a stalled BBC show that’s been described as a mix between ‘Top Gear’ and ‘The Repair Shop’.
The insider added: “He just needs to get past the one-year anniversary of the crash, then he can focus on the next chapter of his career. He’s already in talks about what he wants to work on in 2024 and beyond.”
By contrast, David Lloyd, the former England coach, recently suggested that Freddie might turn his back on his TV career and return to cricket full time.
David, 76 – who coached Freddie in the 90s – told the Guardian newspaper: “I think that’s the way he’s looking. He’s done telly, he’s done boxing. This is a perfect time for him to come back.
“I’m a big advocate for iconic players like that to spend some time away from the game and then come back.”

Ray Quinn marries Emily Fletcher at Peckforton Castle

OHMYGOSSIP — Ray Quinn has married Emily Fletcher.
The 35-year-old singer – who starred on ‘The X Factor’ in 2006 – and Emily tied the knot earlier this week in an intimate ceremony at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire.
Recalling Emily walking down the aisle on their wedding day, Ray told OK! magazine: “It was the moment I’d been waiting for.
“I caught sight of her and she looked absolutely amazing, I just burst into tears.”
Ray admitted that he was totally overwhelmed by emotion on their big day.
The former ‘Brookside’ actor said: “All the emotion from the day, the night before and even the year we’d been planning the wedding, just hit me. I knew how Emily would’ve been feeling walking with her dad, it was overwhelming.”
Emily also felt emotional as she walked down the aisle arm-in-arm with her dad Simon..
The dancer teacher also described Ray as “the man of [her] dreams”.
Emily – who met the TV star in 2017 and gave birth to a baby girl called Summer in 2022 – shared: “I saw Ray and I didn’t take my eyes off him the whole way down the aisle. I couldn’t believe I was about to marry the man of my dreams.”
Ray also cherished having their wedding at such a “magical” location.
Various celebrities have previously tied the knot at Peckforton Castle, including Ciara and her NFL star husband Russell Wilson.
The singer – who was married to Emma Stephens between 2012 and 2015 – said: “It really felt like a bit of us. It’s so grand and magical. It’s like a Disney fairy-tale castle, such grandeur.”

Soaps don’t invest in relationships, says Sally Ann Matthews

OHMYGOSSIP — Sally Ann Matthews believes soaps don’t “invest” enough in on-screen relationships.
The 53-year-old actress – who plays Jenny Bradley in ‘Coronation Street’ – believes that TV audiences crave “entertainment, entertainment, entertainment all the time”.
Asked why her on-screen character is so unlucky in love, Sally Ann replied: “Obviously it’s a soap and you can’t live happily ever after because there’s no drama in that, but then there is a lot to be said for characters having long-term, established relationships.
“I think what happens in all soaps currently is that you get to see a little bit of them getting together, then you don’t see any of the day-to-day relationship stuff and then you see when they split up!
“It’s the same either whether it’s a romantic relationship or any other kind of relationship. We seem to be in an age where, theoretically audiences demand entertainment, entertainment, entertainment all the time. Everybody’s fighting for figures but don’t invest in relationships.”
Despite this, Sally Ann believes ‘Coronation Street’ has managed to buck the trend, because it’s so well-established.
The actress explained: “The joy of ‘Corrie’ is that because of our history, you’ve got long term relationships – those scenes with the Platts this week are just joyous because you know the dynamic. You see Audrey telling Gail off, Gail telling someone else off, and so on, and we’ve seen that for so long.
“That’s the joy of a show with such a long history like ours. The more we see that, the better, and I think the audience will get greater enjoyment from it. What I’d hate to see soaps fall into the trap of is just going from story point, to story point, to story point and not investing in the relationships.”

Ncuti, 30 – who is the first black actor to play the role full-time – said: “There aren’t quite the words to describe how I’m feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.
“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my utmost to do the same.”
Ncuti also revealed that he was particularly looking forward to working with Russell T Davies.
He said: “Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger. An actor’s metaphorical playground.”

The 40-year-old TV star has revealed that she had no idea that Richie was preparing to leave their marital home and start a new relationship.
In her autobiography ‘In My Stride’, Helen – who was married to the rugby league player between 2013 and 2022 – shared: “I was in shock.
“I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliche, but that was me.”
Despite this, Helen wants Richie to remain a constant presence in the lives of their children.
The TV presenter – who has Ernie, eight, Louis, six, and Elsie, 22 months, with her ex-husband – said: “I want them to know that we loved each other, but things change and that’s OK, too.”

Max George and Maisie Smith want a reality TV series

OHMYGOSSIP — Max George and Maisie Smith want their own reality TV series.
The 35-year-old pop star and Maisie, 23, have suggested that they could become the focus of a reality series, with Max joking that it would feature lots of “arguing”.
Maisie told The Sun newspaper: “That would be great entertainment.”
Max then said: “It would be just us arguing.”
Maisie explained that the loved-up couple have recently renovated their house, and admitted that it had been a challenging experience.
She shared: “We have been renovating a house. It’s been a challenge.”
Max added: “We lived in it for about six months then then downstairs got knocked down. We’re homeless.”
Maisie subsequently joked that the situation has given them a great excuse to book lots of holidays.
The soap star quipped: “That’s why we are on holiday so much, we haven’t got a kitchen.
“We’re like, ‘shall we go to Dubai for the week?’ Just so we can have something to eat.”
Meanwhile, Maisie previously claimed that the celebrity couple had already proven that their love “isn’t just for the cameras”.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “When you’re in a new relationship, people have a lot to say. But we’ve been together a while now and we’ve proven our love isn’t just for the cameras.
“We’re genuinely two best friends, in love and we’re so happy. We still get negative comments. Family and friends are so supportive and have never seen either of us so happy. I’ve never been in such a happy position.”
Maisie also revealed that they bonded while “doing nothing” after the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ tour.
The actress – who starred on ‘Strictly’ in 2020 – said: “Me and Max sat at home doing nothing for a month straight. I felt like I deserved it, I’ve had a physically intense job. We both agreed to chill and take our mind off everything and enjoy moving in together.”

Big Brother evicts first housemate of the new series: ‘I couldn’t spend another week with her…! ‘

OHMYGOSSIP — Farida Khalifa has been evicted from ‘Big Brother’.
The 50-year-old make-up artist from Wolverhampton was taking part in the ITV1 reality show but on Friday (13.10.23), she became the first housemate to be kicked out of the house following a public vote.
After her name was called, she jumped up in the air and hugged her housemates whilst Kerry Riches – who had also been up for eviction – seemed to be on the verge of tears.
Speaking to hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best immediately after her eviction, she said: “I’m fabulous! How many of you lot would like a week in that house? Well, I’ve been there. It’s priceless! Kerry really really wanted to be in there. She was in floods of tears, desperate to stay in there. I was quite happy to be out.”
Upon learning that Hallie, Jenkin, Paul, Tom, Henry, Kerry and Olivia had all nominated for her eviction for various reasons based around her opinions and behaviour in the house, she remarked that their opinions did not matter to her but insisted that she is not “fake” as some suggested.
She said: “That’s fine, they’ve known me for five or six days. Their opinion doesn’t matter. I’m very very true to myself. I would never be fake. People who know me would say that.”
The TikTok star did add that she “couldn’t understand” her housemate Kerry as she insisted that her fellow eviction nominee would not be the kind of person she would socialise with outside of the house.
She said: “I couldn’t understand Kerry’s tantrums. She’s a 40-year-old, grown woman and I tried to understand it today. She did tell me shes a drama queen and she’s probably not the type of person I’d mix with in life because I’ve got a life!
“To have another week in the house for me would be too much for me!”

John Cleese tells Ed Balls to ‘shut up’ during Good Morning Britain interview

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cleese told Ed Balls to “shut up” when he was being interviewed by him on ‘Good Morning Britian’ on Tuesday (10.10.23).
The ‘Fawlty Towers’ star was promoting his new GB News show ‘The Dinosaur Hour’ – on which he will interview big-name stars, such as Sir Trevor McDonald and Stephen Fry – but ‘GMB’ co-host Ed couldn’t resist a dig at the channel.
He told John: “You’re the only presenter joining them [GB News] rather than leaving them at the moment.”
John, who says his new show is for “people who are badly out of touch”, replied: “They’re clearing out a certain amount which is not a bad idea. They do believe in free speech…”
Ed then jokingly interjected: “Get the old blood out and the new blood in.”
But John blasted: “Will you shut up?”
In the awkward moment, Ed’s co-host Susanna Reid agreed that her fellow presenter had been talking over the comedian.
She said: “You’re asking a question then talking over the answer.”
Elsewhere during the chat, John defended his and his daughter Camilla Cleese’s upcoming ‘Fawlty Towers’ reboot, and revealed they have been working on the new series for two weeks.
Hitting out at the critics, he said: “People have no idea what they are talking about because they have no idea what we’re going to do.
“The problem was it shouldn’t have been announced for about another 12 months. But one of the top people wanted a bit of a publicity to help him with his career so he started talking about it before it was really a glint in our eye.
“But Camilla and I have done about two weeks’ work and we’re starting again on Monday because we’re doing a tour together on a bus.”
The iconic sitcom spanned 12 episodes over two series from 1975 to 1979 on the BBC, with John starring as hotel owner Basil Fawlty.
He co-wrote the show with his ex-wife Connie Both, who played chambermaid Polly Sherman, but she only found out about the programme’s comeback in the newspapers.
She previously told The Times newspaper: “I would have appreciated learning about the project from John rather than reading about it in the papers.”

Kate Garraway: Derek is not doing great

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway says her husband Derek Draper is “not doing great”.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter was “honest” and revealed that her 56-year-old husband – with who she has daughter Darcy, 17, and son Billy, 14, with – isn’t in a great place at the moment, after his battle with COVID-19 in the early stages of the pandemic left him with long-lasting organ damage and he now requires 24/7 care at home.
The 56-year-old broadcaster – who has made two award-winning documentaries on her family’s experience living with the changes in Derek’s health – told Metro.co.uk: “He’s not doing great, to be honest.
“But the battle goes on,” before confirming that she had made steps to secure a private one-to-meeting with the health secretary Steve Barclay.
Kate made a public appeal on the ITV1 breakfast show to the Conservative minister after he was interviewed live on-air by her co-star Susanna Reid, 52, to speak to him on behalf of “millions of people” in situations similar to her own.
She said: “I don’t want to ambush you on air but I have been trying to contact you and I have been trying to contact Helen Whately as well and I haven’t been able to.
“I’d like to come and talk to you – not about Derek by the way, this is not me trying to get something for him.
“This is about representing millions of people across the country who, like me, in one hand feel like they’re holding the life of their loved one and in the other hand punching away at a system and it isn’t about money.
“I’ve got five points and I’d love to meet with you if you would return some of my attempts to contact you.”
The politician responded by telling the ex ‘GMTV’ star that he was “happy” to meet with her.
Steve said: “It’s the first I’ve heard that you’ve been trying to reach out to me, so that message hadn’t got to me.
“I can absolutely confirm that I would be very happy to meet so we will pick this up after the interview and set that meeting up.”
The ex ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star recently told the Times newspaper that her husband “can neither breathe in oxygen nor expel carbon dioxide efficiently” after contracting the virus more than three years ago.

‘It’s because I like to dress sexy!’ Helen Flanagan hits out at ‘silly’ mum-shaming trolls

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Flanagan has hit out at “silly” mum-shaming trolls for criticising her Instagram pictures.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star – who has kids Matilda, eight, Delilah, five and Charlie, two, with her ex, pro footballer Scott Sinclair – believes she is targeted by trolls because she “likes to dress sexy”, but she insists women should be “celebrating themselves” rather than attacking each other online.
She told The Sun Online: “It’s because I like to dress sexy, it’s silly.
“I’m very much for women empowerment. I like women to feel confident, and I think women should celebrate ourselves.”
Helen admitted she suffers from “mum guilty”, even when she attends the odd event.
Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, she added: “Being a mum is really hard. It’s really tough, juggling everything.
“It sounds a bit silly, I know I only work on social media but I feel like you get such mum guilt as well. Even being here tonight.”
In June, Helen told how she had a “sinking feeling” once when her daughter went missing.
She explained to new! magazine: “I must have turned my back for a second.
“I remember having this horrible, sinking feeling. I always keep an eye on my kids but I couldn’t see her for about a minute.
“There’s nothing worse than that, it’s the worst, worst feeling ever. They are good with that but you need eyes in the back of your head.”
In May, Helen admitted she sometimes feels like mums can’t “ever win” in life.
She told The Sun newspaper: “As women I don’t think we can ever win. I’ve got friends who don’t work at all, stay at home.
“Then they feel bad they are not working. Then I’ve got friends who work all the time and they feel guilty because they are working all the time.
“I just feel as a woman you can never win. I do feel like the happier you are as a mum, the better it is for your child.”

The 33-year-old star said on ‘Lorraine’: “I have a bit of a hyper energy sometimes and I can’t seem to settle her at all. In the evenings, Janette does an amazing job of putting her to sleep and I can only do it if I dance with her.

On fatherhood, Aljaz added: “I love her, every single day more.”
Janette, 39, said Lyra’s birth was “magical”, as she gushed about motherhood.

Big Brother narrator Marcus Bentley explains why launch show was pre-recorded

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ narrator Marcus Bentley has revealed the launch show was pre-recorded to “avoid chaos”.
The show returned this week on ITV, after five years away when it was previously on Channel 5, but Monday night’s (09.10.23) first episode, when the 16 contestants entered the house, was pre-recorded.
Speaking on ‘Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden’, Jamie said to Marcus: “It’s funny the launch show because it was pre recorded … because normally those launch shows are big live shows, this one wasn’t live, which surprised me because I always thought it was one of the great things about ‘Big Brother’ because it thrives on chaos generally.”
But Marcus – who has narrated the show since its inception in 2000 – admitted ITV bosses decided not to have a live launch show in case there were teething problems.
He said: “Yeah. And I think they were trying to avoid the chaos of new studios, new house, a new channel and so I think they just wanted to, you know, evolve naturally or to be recorded, you know.”
The rebooted series is presented by new co-hosts, AJ Odudu and Will Best.
On the launch episode, Big Brother threw a few curveballs to the housemates, including blowing up contestant Jenkin’s suitcase, and forcing him to go without hot water for 24 hours.
What’s more, Dylan was left without a bed for the first night and Olivia was inadvertently put up for eviction by Jenkin, leaving her in tears.
On Tuesday night (09.10.23), Olivia won immunity after she managed to complete Big Brother’s mission to avoid being named the “least entertaining” housemate.
Listen to Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden weekdays from 06:30 – 10:00 and on Global Player

Shirley Ballas claims Strictly Come Dancing audience reactions to scores can be ‘sexist’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has claimed some of the reactions to the scores on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ are sexist.
The 63-year-old head judge believes the live studio audience at the BBC One Latin and ballroom competition often have a gender bias as they tend to boo and jeer more at her and her fellow female panellist Motsi Mabuse, 42, when they award points, compared to when the men on the panel, Anton Du Beke, 57, and Craig Revel-Horwood, dish out the same scores.
She told the Radio Times magazine: “It’s always a little bit … if I give a five you hear the boos, if Anton [Du Beke] gives a five he gets a clap.
“It tends to be me and Motsi too, if we give a lower score.
“Maybe what people don’t understand is that the show can’t run one second over and I get 20 seconds to say my piece.
“So let’s say my darling Anton runs over, I get five seconds, but if everyone has 20 seconds then I can give you some bullet points.”
Shirley also revealed she is “no longer allowed to have a phone” after being ambushed with death threats online.
She said while speaking at the Cheltenham Literary Festival: “I now have my lovely Harry looking after my social media and I’m not even allowed my phone until Harry has gone through everything.
“I love controversy. if someone does not agree with my 10, we can have a back and forward and that’s lovely but when it’s over the top messages: I want to slice you up, bury you in the yard, your face on a coffin and all that – for me that is strange, that is odd.
“We’re in week four now and it’s getting tougher as good people are now going out – it’ll always be somebody’s favourite – so I apologise in advance.”
Shirley previously said her horrific experiences online have left her housebound.
Speaking to Olivia Attwood on documentary ‘Olivia Attwood Vs The Trolls’, she said: “I take it on the chin. I’m still here – I had a choice, I could have left.
“I’ve seen the messages other celebrities get and it’s not just me, it’s across the board.”
