‘I didn’t enjoy my time there’ Romesh Ranganathan ‘racially abused’ at private school

OHMYGOSSIP — Romesh Ranganathan was racially abused when he attended private school.
The 45-year-old comedian – whose parents are Sri Lankan – has told how he “didn’t enjoy” his time in private education because of the vile abuse he received, but he later moved to a state school, and he had a “great time” there.
Romesh later returned to the state school in Crawley as a teacher, and he met his future wife Leesa, who was a drama teacher at the education facility.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “My parents had come from Sri Lanka and they were obsessed with me going to private school.
“I didn’t enjoy my time there. Without getting too dark, I was racially abused. So, I wasn’t that bothered about leaving.
“I went to a state school, had a great time and went on to teach at that same school, which is where I met my wife.”
Romesh currently hosts the likes of ‘A League of Their Own’ and ‘The Weakest Link’, but he was shocked when he was offered the chance to front the BBC quiz show.
The star – who replaced Anne Robinson as the programme’s presenter – said: “I was genuinely surprised when I got that call.
“But the truth is, the quiz is bulletproof.
“As long as I can read out loud, I’ll do all right.”
In October, Romesh told how he once considered taking his own life when he was a teenager.
The star ended up at such a low point when his dad was sent to prison for two years in in the early 1990s after being convicted for fraud.
He said: “Back when I was a teenager, my dad was sent to prison, and it led to me considering taking my own life.
“It’s a moment that sits alongside the other low points I’ve had that have really hammered home just how vital help is when you’re struggling.
“I’m becoming CALM Patron because I know talking about suicide really does make a difference and that anyone can hit rock bottom.
“It’s vital we all understand that those feelings won’t last forever, so I’ll be helping to make sure more people know about CALM’s life-saving services and raising as much money as I can to support as many people as possible.”

New Bourne movie is in the pipeline

OHMYGOSSIP — A new ‘Bourne’ film is in development.
Insiders have told Deadline that Universal Pictures has started early work on a new installment of the action-thriller franchise with ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ helmer Edward Berger in talks to direct.
Those close to the project say that there is no script at this moment in time and that the project is still in the initial phase of development but Berger has been a man in demand after directing the Oscar-winning anti-war film and his involvement has raised excitement for the future of the ‘Bourne’ franchise.
Matt Damon starred in four of the five films as the amnesia-stricken CIA assassin Jason Bourne and sources say that he will be approached to return to the role once the script is complete.
The franchise first hit the big screen when ‘The Bourne Identity’ was released in 2002 and director Doug Liman confessed that he “doesn’t know how to process” the James Bond movie ‘Casino Royale’ taking inspiration from his film.
The ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ filmmaker said: “I always wanted to make a James Bond movie but they don’t hire American directors. By the way, you’ve made two little indie movies. You’re never going to direct James Bond.
“I went and made ‘Bourne Identity’, and then after ‘The Bourne Identity’ came out, the next James Bond to come out was ‘Casino Royale’, which totally copied the tone of Bourne. I had a very surreal thing where I was sort of making Bourne because I really wanted to make Bond, and then Bond copied Bourne.”
He added: “I didn’t quite know how to process that. I still don’t know how to process that. I don’t know if I got what I wanted or didn’t get what I wanted.
“It’s beyond my computing power to know how to feel about that. It’s probably an unsatisfying answer. To say I’m annoyed or flattered would be easy, but I’m still confused about how should I feel about this.”

‘I ate an entire pot!’ Strictly’s Vito Coppola bonds with Ellie Leach’s family over her mum’s gravy

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer Vito Coppola bonded with his partner Ellie Leach’s family over his love of her mum’s gravy.
The 31-year-old star chowed down a whole pot of the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress’ mother’s homemade gravy, and he now feels Ellie’s relations are “another family” to him.
Speaking in a joint interview with Ellie on ‘Lorraine’, he said: “Ellie’s family have become like another family for me. Honestly, I’ve been so, so lucky.
“And your mum does the best gravy ever. I ate the entire pot.
“Of course, we’ll stay friends and people who stay in your life forever.”
Ellie has topped the ‘Strictly’ leaderboard on several occasions, including a 39-points-out-of-40 score last weekend when the show aired from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
But the 22-year-old soap star didn’t ever think she would reach Blackpool, and she can feel herself “growing each day” during rehearsals.
She said: “We work so hard, and when I first started ‘Strictly’ I would never, ever expect to get this far, and be able to do the dances and do all the lifts and tricks.
“I can feel myself growing each day and each week. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved so far.”
Ellie and Vito – who are the short-priced bookmakers’ favourites to win the Glitterball Trophy this year – remained tight-lipped about their dance for Saturday’s (25.11.23) show, but he teased fans they will see a “another side” of the ex-‘Corrie’ star that hasn’t been seen on the competition so far.
He added: “It’s about passion and is quite close. You will see another side of Ellie that she hasn’t showed yet so far, which is very, very interesting.”
Ellie added: “It’s something a little bit different.”

Strictly judge to release new studio album with Grammy-winning producer

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke is to release his second studio album after a six-year wait.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge, 57, will be working with the Grammy-award winning producer Brian Rawlings to create exciting new music, once the current series of the BBC show ends.
During an appearance on the ‘Power of Joy’ podcast, he said: “What I am going to do at the beginning of next year is …  I’m going to get into the studio with some of the guys from the band and we’re going to do a ‘sessions album,’ we’re going to give it a sessions feel.
“You don’t put CDs out any more so we’ll put it out for download. It will be fun and we’ll film it.”
Anton also revealed he had recorded some Christmas songs, which he hopes he will release in time for the festive season next year, after his second album launches.
He said: “A few years ago, we started to put together a Christmas album, but realised we had no time to promote and tour the album because I can’t do anything when I’m doing ‘Strictly’.
“So we put it to one side and we thought we’ll revisit that when we’ve got a bit more time.”
Anton will no doubt be hoping for even more success from his second album, after his first record ‘From the Top’ reached number 21 on the UK Albums Chart.
In October, Anton told how he “hated everybody” before he joined ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
He said on the ‘How to be 60’ podcast: “I was a lunatic at 26. I was so driven and determined, it was almost destructive.
“I’d get frustrated and so angry all the time and I hated everybody. I just wanted to beat everybody.
“It was a really competitive world. I didn’t want to be your friend, no interest in that at all. I wanted to beat you really badly, I wanted to beat you a lot.”

Rochelle Humes lets slip I’m A Celebrity secret amid husband Marvin Humes’ appearance

OHMYGOSSIP — Rochelle Humes has told how ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ campmates’ loved ones receive “courtesy calls” ahead of an evening’s episode to give them a heads up about what is to come.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter co-hosted the brunch-time show alongside Dermot O’Leary on Tuesday (21.11.23) when she let slip that ‘I’m A Celebrity’ producers called her on Monday (20.11.23) to reveal her husband Marvin Humes was going to serenade his fellow campmate Jamie-Lynn Spears on that night’s episode.
During the episode, Marvin and several other campmates, including ex-‘EastEnders’ star Danielle Harold, ran a bath for Jamie-Lynn – the sister of Britney Spears – when she was feeling a bit low about jungle life.
Marvin then started to sing to her, while ‘First Dates’ star Fred Sirieix joined in by using a saucepan as a drum.
On ‘This Morning’, Rochelle explained: “The producer calls us. They give us a little call earlier on in the day and they say, ‘This is what’s going to happen tonight,’ and they tell me that he’s doing OK.
“It’s sort of like a courtesy call. And yesterday, she said, ‘At one point tonight, he does serenade Jamie-Lynn Spears in the bath.’
“And I was like, ‘It’s a good job I’m not the jealous type whilst I’m there with his kids.’
“But when I watched it, I understood it a lot more. I realised that I don’t ever want him to do that for me. She just wanted to chill. Fred had his drum. The girl just wanted to relax.
“It’s the most random bit of telly I’ve ever seen.”
Dermot joked: “The producers definitely oversold that for you. There were like five other people around too.”
Rochelle joked she was “raging” about the moment.
Asked by Dermot if it was “weird” that Marvin hasn’t sung to Rochelle in the bath before, but he now has to the ‘Zoey 101’ star, Rochelle quipped: “I’m raging! I’ve got the raging hump about that.”

‘I’m not sure where I’d be’ Annabel Croft thanks Strictly for giving her a ‘purpose’ after Mel death

OHMYGOSSIP — Annabel Croft has thanked ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for giving her a “purpose to get up in the morning” following the passing of her husband.
The 57-year-old former tennis ace lost her husband of 30 years, Mel Coleman, in May after he died of colon cancer aged 60, and ‘Strictly’ contestant Annabel – who is partnered by pro dancer Johannes Radebe on the BBC show – admitted she still misses him “terribly”.
Annabel – who wed Mel in 1993 – said on ‘This Morning’: “I’m not sure where I would be at if I hadn’t had this opportunity to dance with Johannes.
“I mean it has been a horrific year; it’s something I’d never have anticipated.
“It was never meant to be how life was going to be. I thought I had a future with my husband; we’ve been together since I was 21. 36 years together and I miss him terribly – there’s no question about it.”
Annabel is devastated Mel didn’t ever get the opportunity to meet Johannes, 36, because she believes the pair would’ve got on “so well”.
She said: “I want to speak to him about what we’re doing and I miss his humour.
“I really wish that Johannes had met him because I feel like they would have got on so well. And he adored Johannes when he used to watch the programme.
“I think it’s given me a purpose to get up in the morning and with some of the dances we’ve done, we’ve had such an incredible response – particularly our couple’s choice dance.”
In October, Annabel admitted she sobbed before her ‘Strictly’ debut while remembering Mel.
She told MailOnline: “I just sat and cried. Mel was my biggest supporter, my protector. He gave me confidence. He made things right, always had done. I wanted to talk to him. I wanted to say, ‘I am really nervous for tomorrow, but I don’t have you to make it OK.’
“I was about to go in front of millions of people and be jolly and happy but I was sobbing, thinking, ‘I don’t know where you are, Mel. Where have you gone?’ ”

While Patsy enjoyed working on the show, she couldn’t keep up with her ‘Death in Paradise’ co-stars’ after filming.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper recently, she said: “At my age I don’t meet people as I’m normally in bed at 9pm.
“On the show I just finished [‘Death in Paradise’] they were going to the bar and I was like, ‘I can’t. I have got to be in bed my 8pm.
“I have got to wash my face due to the humidity out there. And I have got to be up at 4am.’
“By the end of it they didn’t bother asking me. The thought of going to a bar or looking for love … but these things happen when you least expect it. I got set up on a blind date so there you go. I use the word companionship.
“I’m not ruling the intimacy side of things out but relationships are different at this age and it is good and OK. You have got to be hopeful and grateful.”

‘You get the face you deserve!’ Lorraine Kelly takes aim at I’m A Celebrity’s Nigel Farage

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly has taken aim at Nigel Farage – insisting he is proof you “get the face you deserve”, after discovering he is “only 59”.
The 63-year-old TV presenter was speaking to former politician Edwina Currie about Nigel’s time on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ when she made the dig about the former UKIP party leader, admitting she thought he was “a hell of a lot older than that”.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, Edwina said: “What’s he in [the jungle] for? I think he is in there because he thinks he can enhance his reputation and be seen as a responsible and intelligent and worthy person of some kind or other and perhaps … he’s only, what, 59?
“He’s got plenty of years ahead of him.”
Lorraine then interjected, saying: “Oh, is he? Is he only 59? I thought he was a hell of a lot older than that. That’s astonishing.
“That shows you that you get the face you deserve.”
Earlier in the interview, Edwina – who finished fourth in the 14th ‘I’m A Celebrity’ series in 2014 – insisted Nigel’s campmate Fred Sirieix was “a bit aggressive” when tackling the politician on Brexit on Monday night’s (20.11.23) jungle episode.
Edwina said: “I thought Fred was a big aggressive to be honest. And also, some of what he was saying was frankly wrong, and I was a Remain campaigner at the time.
“Nigel seems to have been really quite mild and modest in his response.
“So yeah, well done.”
Fans also saw a fair bit of Nigel on Monday night’s episode when Josie Gibson accidentally spotted him in the shower naked, and viewers were given a glimpse of his derriere.
Reacting to the moment, Lorraine said: “I could’ve done without that. We saw a little bit too much of Nigel.
“It could’ve been worse – he could’ve turned around!”

BBC confirms Top Gear will not return for the ‘foreseeable future’ following Andrew Flintoff’s crash

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Top Gear’ will not return for the “foreseeable future”, the BBC has confirmed.
The future of the motoring show was thrown into doubt after co-host Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff was left seriously injured whilst filming a stunt for the series in December 2022.
Now the fate of ‘Top Gear’ – which is also hosted by Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris – has been confirmed.
In a statement, the BBC said: “Given the exceptional circumstances, the BBC has decided to rest the UK show for the foreseeable future.
“The BBC remains committed to Freddie, Chris and Paddy who have been at the heart of the show’s renaissance since 2019, and we’re excited about new projects being developed with each of them.
“We will have more to say in the near future on this. We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do.
“All other ‘Top Gear’ activity remains unaffected by this hiatus including international formats, digital, magazines and licensing.”
The UK show is currently sold to more 150 territories and there are 11 local format versions including in France, America and Finland.
The news comes after the retired England cricketer reached a settlement with the BBC of an estimated £9 million over the accident.
Freddie, 45, had been driving at 124mph at the ‘Top Gear’ test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, South East England, and left the sports star with several broken ribs and severe facial injuries. The scars and damage to his face were visible when he took part in a training session with the England cricket team in the summer.
Following the horror crash, the BBC stated that continuing production on ‘Top Gear’ would be “inappropriate” and a full health and safety review would be carried out.
Flintoff – who is married to Rachael Wools, with whom he has four children – was recently named head coach of the Northern Superchargers men’s Hundred franchise, which was launched in England in 2021. He will take on the role in 2024.

OHMYGOSSIP — Annabel Giles has died at the age of 64.
The TV presenter – who started her career on children’s show ‘Razzmatazz ‘ in the 1990s before going on to front ITV’s ‘Posh Frocks and New Trousers’ with Sarah Greene – had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in July and passed away on Monday (20.11.23), her children Molly and Tedd have announced.
On Tuesday, they wrote on Instagram: “It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our incredible mother, Annabel Giles, who passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon at Martlets Hospice in Hove.
“In July, Mum was diagnosed with stage 4 Glioblastoma, a fast-growing and highly aggressive malignant brain tumour.
“In the four months that followed, she displayed remarkable resilience and strength, despite undergoing brain surgery and countless radiotherapies.
“In her final weeks, she was passionate about raising awareness for Glioblastoma, embodying her lifelong commitment to helping others.”
Molly and Tedd went on to pay tribute to their mother – who was married to Ultravox singer Midge Ure from 1985 until 1989 – as a “one-of-a-kind” woman and requested that, instead of flowers, mourners make a donation to Martlets Hospice in Brighton and Hove for the “exceptional care” they had given to Annabel in her final months.
They added: “Mum was truly one of a kind, an enigma to those privileged to share her life. True to her nature, she kept spirits high and maintained her quick wit until the very end. Her humour and laughter will leave us inspired to live life to the fullest, just as she always did.

Nella Rose quits trial with just three stars on I’m A Celeb: ‘It was the hardest thing ever!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nella Rose quit her Bushtucker Trial with just three stars on Tuesday’s (21.11.23) edition of ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’
The 26-year-old YouTuber had been chosen by the public to take part in James Bond-themed No Time To Cry in an effort to win meals for her campmates on the ITV1 reality survival show and admitted to Ant and Dec before the trial began that the “pressure” was on.
Ant explained: “Nella, this is No Time To Cry – through the fence and hidden deep underground is an evil villain’s secret lair. You have to take on the role of secret agent and infiltrate that secret lair, collecting stars as you go. The stars are hidden behind protected glass. To get them, you’re going to need this super hi-tech magnetic secret agent watch…”
Dec said: “It’s basically a magnet we’ve glued to some velcro. But you get the idea.”
Once underground, the influencer had to try to navigate a maze of lasers while trying to free the star with the magnetic watch but was repeatedly sent back to the beginning when she broke the lasers.
But Nella – who is on the show with the likes of politician Nigel Farage, Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn and ‘EastEnders’ actress Danielle Harold – felt forced to terminate the trial by yelling the show’s title and told the hosts that the challenge was the “hardest” thing she had ever done and noted that she was “so disappointed” in herself to be returning to camp with just three out of a possible 10 stars.
She said: “That’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Confined spaces. The electric shocks. I was confined, underground, electrocuted, it was giving hell. I feel like I was in hell. They’re going to be so disappointed in me… I’m so disappointed in myself!”
‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ continues Wednesday at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX

Strictly Come Dancing star Rhys Stephenson gets engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star Rhys Stephenson is engaged.
The CBBC star, who competed in the BBC One dance competition in 2021 with Nancy Xu, has revealed he popped the question during a romantic getaway to the Cayman Islands with partner Beth Johnson.
He captioned a picture of the couple showing off her emerald green ring: “She said yes! #caymanislands #engagement.”
‘Strictly’ co-host Tess Daly commented: “Congratulations!”
Professional dancer Neil Jones wrote: “Omg congratulations.”
Rhys, 30, was asked about Beth on the show after he and Nancy did a spicy Argentine Tango.
Co-host Claudia Winkleman asked him: “What did your girlfriend Beth say when you told her you were doing the Argentine Tango?”
To which, he replied: “Beth said ‘If I’m not jealous, you’re not doing it right.’ So, Beth, I hope you’re both proud and jealous.”
The presenter previously opened up about how he felt out of his comfort zone when showing his “sexy” side on ‘Strictly’.
He said: “When you’re a kids’ TV presenter, you spend all your time being silly and goofy, and to be sexy is so not allowed. That’s taboo.
“But then to go a show where you’ve got to actively do that … wow.”
The ‘Blue Peter’ presenter performed a quickstep to ‘What A Man Gotta Do’ by the Jonas Brothers – scoring 34 out of 40 – but joked he must go back to being “goofy” on children’s TV.
Rhys said: “I’m still on CBBC, so I have to try and be sexy on Saturday, and then go back and be goofy on Wednesday, like it never happened. And knowing that some of the kids and parents might have just watched me on Saturday, and they’re watching me differently now … I can’t see it the same afterwards.
“I’ve just never really seen myself as sexy. Or if anyone was even to say that to me, I’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s gross. Give that to someone who deserves it.’
“But I’m up for any challenge, and to just lose myself in whatever kind of character I create.”

James May ‘can’t believe’ Top Gear is ‘gone forever’

OHMYGOSSIP — Top Gear host James May “can’t believe” the show might be “gone forever”.
The 60-year-old TV star previously hosted the BBC series alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond before quitting in 2015 after Clarkson’s contract was not renewed – and he’s now weighed in on the news ‘Top Gear’ is being “rested” for the “foreseeable future” after presenter Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff was left seriously injured while filming a stunt last year.
According to The Sun newspaper, May said: “I can see why it’s a tricky one for the makers, but I can’t believe it’s gone forever. I think it’s sad because I was a big ‘Top Gear’ watcher when I was a teenager in the 70s.”
May went on to insist he never had any safety fears while he was working on the programme. He added: “I don’t think we ever did anything dangerous. We used to take safety very seriously and I still know guys who have worked on it, and they do as well.”
Freddie, 45, had been driving at 124mph at the ‘Top Gear’ test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, South East England in December 2022 when he crashed and the accident left the sports star with several broken ribs and severe facial injuries.
Following the horror crash, the BBC stated that continuing production on ‘Top Gear’ would be “inappropriate” and a full health and safety review would be carried out.
The England cricketer – who presented alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris – later reached a settlement with the BBC of an estimated £9 million over the accident.
Confirming Top Gear’s future, the BBC said in a statement: “Given the exceptional circumstances, the BBC has decided to rest the UK show for the foreseeable future. “All other ‘Top Gear’ activity remains unaffected by this hiatus including international formats, digital, magazines and licensing.” The UK show is currently sold to more 150 territories and there are 11 local format versions including in France, America and Finland.
