Coronation Street legend Bruce Jones is ‘scared’ about pro wrestling debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Jones is “scared” about his professional wrestling debut.
The ‘Coronation Street’ legend – who played Les Battersby for a decade on the cobbles until his exit in 2007 – is set to be part of an independent wrestling event in Manchester early next year.
Speaking to the ‘Cultaholic Wrestling’ podcast, he said: “It seems surreal – I’m looking forward to it but I’m a bit scared of it. The reaction has been amazing.
“People in the industry have said, ‘you’re starting wrestling, so you’re not going back to Coronation Street?’
“I always say ‘never say never.’ ”
He will make his first appearance for Sovereign Pro Wrestling (SOVPRO) on February 18, 2024 at the company’s ‘It’s Dark and Hell is Hot’ event.
Bruce has also confirmed he will make his entrance to the iconic ‘Corrie’ theme song.
Announcing Bruce’s appearance, SOVPRO previously wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “This is not a drill. This is not a parody.
From the infamous cobbles of Weatherfield, The Champion of the Rovers Return, THE Les Battersby makes his SOVPRO debut on Feb 18th.”
Bruce added at the time: “Come and join the wrestlers and me as Les 18th February 2024 for my debut.”
Although he’ll be reprising his memorable role for the event, the soap star previously admitted it “gets on his nerves” when people use the character name in real life.
Back in 2020, he said: “Les’ character will never go. I sometimes say, ‘My name’s not Les, it’s Bruce,’ especially when it is just someone shouting it across the room. It really does get on my nerves.”
And Bruce says he simply doesn’t acknowledge people if they use his former taxi driver character’s name to address him.
He was quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I just ignore it. My name is not Les.”

Grace Dent explains her I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! exit

OHMYGOSSIP — Grace Dent wrote a message to her campmates after quitting ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’.
The 50-year-old broadcaster recently left the ITV show on “medical grounds” and she’s explained her exit to the other campmates in a heartfelt message.
The letter – which was read out by actor Nick Pickard – said: “My dear campmates, I’m so sorry to let you down. I have left the camp for medical reasons.
“My heart is broken, I have loved and enjoyed getting to know you all. You’ve held me up and it’s been a pleasure being your friend through this experience. Leaving you all at this stage will be one of the saddest things in my life.
“I love you all.
“Your friend, Miss Grace Dent.”
In response to the message, Frankie Dettori simply said: “Grace, we miss you.”
Elsewhere, Danielle Harold replied: “Love you, Grace.”
Earlier in the episode, Danielle was informed that she was to become a “last-minute substitute” for Grace in a Bushtucker Trial.
Asked how she felt about the trial, Danielle replied: “The shock might help a little bit and I’m glad I’m here with my Josie.”
The 31-year-old actress – who is best known for playing Lola Pearce-Brown on ‘EastEnders’ – and Josie Gibson ultimately managed to win ten out of 12 possible stars for the camp.
Meanwhile, Grace’s exit from the show was first confirmed by ITV.
The broadcaster said in a statement: “Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds.
“She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike.”

BBC confirms Doctor Who Christmas special air date over festive season

OHMYGOSSIP — Ncuti Gatwa’s first ‘Doctor Who’ episode will air on Christmas Day.
After plenty of rumours, the BBC has officially confirmed the sci-fi show’s festive special ‘The Church on Ruby Road’ will air on December 25.
In a press release breaking down this year’s seasonal TV schedule, the broadcaster described the episode as the Fifteenth Doctor’s “first epic adventure” following the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
Christmas Day will also mark the end of beloved comedy ‘Ghosts’ as the finale takes viewers to Button House one last time.
Charlotte Moore, BBC’s Chief Content Officer, said: “This year’s Christmas line-up on the BBC is an extravaganza of must watch shows!
“Join us as we welcome a brand new Doctor and wave goodbye to our beloved sitcom ‘Ghosts.’ ”
She promised viewers “a spectacular range of entertainment, drama, comedy and factual programming across the festive fortnight”, adding: “It’s essential viewing for everyone as we bring friends and families together across the UK.”
Before Ncuti takes over at Christmas, David Tennant is in the midst of three special episodes for the show’s anniversary.
The returning star is playing the new Fourteenth Doctor rather than reprising his role as the Tenth, and he was back in the TARDIS over the weekend for ‘The Star Beast’, with ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’ to follow.
The latter will mark the end of his latest run on the show, but he isn’t ruling out another comeback in the future.
Speaking to SFX magazine, he recently said: “I think it would be disingenuous to imagine that I might never be asked again, because history would indicate that it was always a possibility.
“So I’m not going to say never because I don’t think anyone would believe me.
“That doesn’t mean I know that I ever will. But I suppose until I can’t run down a corridor it’s always a possibility. But I promise to have no plans.”

Edgar Wright urges Hollywood franchise to ‘take a breather’ to avoid burnout

OHMYGOSSIP — Edgar Wright urges massive Hollywood franchises to “take a breather and let people get excited”.
The ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ director – who was careful not to name the likes of Marvel – insisted some big screen series need to be mindful of “killing the golden goose” through overexposure.
Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, he said: “I wish some franchises would just kind of have the sense to just take a breather and let people get excited about it again.
“I feel like there are certain things that I loved that I don’t want to see again, or I don’t want to see them again for a long time.”
The ‘Baby Driver’ filmmaker noted that studios also need to put a focus on developing new projects and ideas.
He explained: “One of the problems with film franchises is sometimes when they announce — I’m not mentioning any names or anything — when they announce like massive slates of films and TV shows […] there’s a danger of killing the golden goose.
“It is a weird thing: If I could go back to when I was a young film fan, and I’ve just enjoyed a movie, and people are saying, ‘Guess what? They’ll be one every three years for the rest of your life.’
“I’d be like, ‘Really?!’ That’s the thing that is sad to me, the lack of investment in new movies.”
He pointed to the ‘James Bond’ saga as an exception in the current landscape, with Eon Productions in no rush to cast Daniel Craig’s successor as 007 following 2021’s ‘No Time To Die’.
He said: “They’re pretty smart actually because they’re willing to kind of put a pause on things to build anticipation. They are the exception.
“They are smart enough to put the brakes on and build anticipation so you’ll be excited for the next one.
“I think one of the problems now is that I wish some films and series that people would understand it’s ok to take a break and build anticipation.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Past Lives’ took home the top accolade at the Gotham Awards on Monday night (27.11.23).
The romantic drama movie scooped the Best Feature accolade at the ceremony at New York City’s Cipriani Wall Street, and writer-director Celine Song admitted the prize is “such an honour”.
She told the audience: “Thank you, Gotham, for this award. It’s such an honour.

But Song missed out on the Breakthrough Director gong, which was an all-female category this year, with the prize going to A.V. Rockwell for ‘A Thousand and One’.
Accepting the award, an emotional Rockwell said: “Maybe one of the biggest things actually was telling a very truthful, authentic, very raw experience that can be so hard when it’s culturally specific and I felt like I fought tooth and nail for every inch of, every piece of what you’ve seen on screen.
“Just to be frank, it is very hard to tell a very culturally specific story when you look like this [touching the skin on back of her hand].”
Other big winners on the night included Lily Gladstone, who triumphed in the Outstanding Lead Performance category for ‘The Unknown Country’.
Charles Melton’s role in ‘May December’ won him the Outstanding Supporting Performance accolade, and comedy-drama TV series ‘Beef’ picked up two prizes.
The Netflix show won the Breakthrough Series Under 40 minutes award, and ‘Beef’ star Ali Wong triumphed in the Outstanding Performance in a New Series category.
French courtroom drama thriller film ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ also scooped two prizes, Best International Feature and Best Screenplay.

Jacqueline Jossa ‘strikes agreement with EastEnders to keep pre-existing brand deals’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jacqueline Jossa is working with ‘EastEnders’ to ensure her pre-existing brand deals don’t “conflict the show or BBC guidelines” ahead of her return to the soap.
The 31-year-old star is heading back to Albert Square as her alter-ego Lauren Branning in the new year, and she is being allowed to keep her brand deals, which are said to include a “major six-figure contract” with In The Style, during her time in Walford.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “There were previously strict rules about members of the ‘EastEnders’ cast being able to make money from other brands while they were working on the soap.
“It meant that ultimately they couldn’t cash in on the side and top up their pay packets. But now that could all be about to change.
“Jacqueline has had it agreed that she can keep her brand deals when she appears on screen in the new year.
“She has a major six-figure contract with In The Style which is incredibly lucrative and she didn’t want to lose that.”
It is thought this might lead to other ‘EastEnders’ stars being allowed to do the same going forward.
The source added: “The move means she has blazed a trail for the other actors on the show to do the same.
“Naturally there are stipulations around what the actors will or won’t be able to plug, but thanks to Jacqueline it means they can start the conversation and see if they could make brand deals work like she has.”
An EastEnders spokesperson said: “As with all talent, we are working with Jacqueline Jossa to ensure her pre-existing deals do not conflict with the show or BBC guidelines.”
Last month, Jacqueline confirmed she is returning to ‘EastEnders’.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I’m really excited. It’s such an amazing time to be back as there is so much buzz around ‘EastEnders’ at the moment. I’ve been watching and loving it like a fan.
Walford holds a special place in my heart, so it really does feel like coming home!”

Hollyoaks confirm major character is to make shock ‘1-episode return’ this winter

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Cooper is returning to ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 43-year-old actress is best known for playing Jacqui McQueen in the Channel 4 soap from 2006 to 2013, and it has now been confirmed she will make a “one-episode return” this winter.
‘Hollyoaks’ said: “We can confirm that ‘Hollyoaks’ royalty, Jacqui McQueen, played by Claire Cooper, will be putting in her hoop earrings for a one-episode return.”
The character’s return to the village was also revealed in the soap’s new winter trailer, in which her sister Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) runs into Jacqui in church as she turns to prayer for answers about what to do in her latest predicament.
Jacqui says: “Mother of Mercy, what have you got yourself into this time love, eh?”
A shocked Mercedes responds: “Jacqui?!”
Earlier in the trailer, Mercedes is seen speaking on the phone and tells the caller: “I’m pregnant, engaged and I don’t know who the dad is because I’ve been messing around.”
Jacqui was last seen in 2013 when she left the village for Spain, after conning a gangster out of £50,000.
Claire has three-year-old son Ocean, and 12-month-old daughter Fiáin with her former ‘Hollyoaks’ co-star husband Emmett J. Scanlan.
The couple lost a baby in July 2019, and Claire nearly lost her life.
Speaking about the tragedy in October 2020, to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, Claire said at the time: “It’s baby loss awareness week and although I wasn’t quiet about our loss privately, I didn’t share it with the public, mainly I didn’t have the words at that time perhaps I still don’t but if this post helps one family or person out there, perhaps my words were worth the wait…or not.
“We lost our little soul July 2019 the devastation was unreal, the day came when my body let go of what I’d fought so hard to keep. Little did we know that I myself would also end up in a precarious situation strapped to machines fighting – it truly was hard enough losing our baby but to then fight for my own life was something else. I lost over a third of my blood my recovery was painfully slow. Instantly anaemic and instantly heartbroken. (sic)”

Amy Dowden ‘angry’ about cancer diagnosis but doesn’t want ‘looks of sympathy’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional dancer Amy Dowden feels “angry” about her cancer diagnosis after “looking after herself” throughout her life.
The 33-year-old star was diagnosed with Crohn’s aged 19, following eight years of symptoms, and in May she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she has been undergoing treatment for.
Amy has admitted it will “take a while to accept” her cancer diagnosis, as it did to accept her Crohn’s.
When asked if she feels angry about facing cancer so young, on top of managing a chronic illness, she told Women’s Health UK: “Oh yeah … I always say, I never asked [for] this to happen to me.
“I’ve always worked so hard. I’ve always been a good person.
“I looked after myself, I’ve exercised well, haven’t smoked … I do get angry.
“I just think I’ve been dealt a difficult one … I think it’ll take a while to accept.
“It took me a long time to accept my Crohn’s. Until I’m back dancing and back to my normal self, I don’t think I will accept it.”
But Amy doesn’t want “looks of sympathy” from people if they see her out and about with her headscarf on – after she shaved her head amid her cancer treatment – and she doesn’t need anyone to give her any “pity looks”.
She added: “I just want to be treated as normal.
“When I’m walking outside and I’ve got my headscarf on, I don’t want looks of sympathy or feeling sorry for me – I’m Amy … sometimes, people don’t know how to address it.
“Just ask how I am – I will answer you. We don’t want you to feel sorry for us.
“We’re embracing it. Stand strong with us … don’t give me that pity look – I don’t need it!”
The full Amy Dowden interview can be read in the December issue of Women’s Health UK, on sale now.

Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John to feature in This Is Spinal Tap sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John are to feature in the sequel to ‘This Is Spinal Tap’.
Director Rob Reiner has confirmed that production on the follow-up to his acclaimed 1984 rock mockumentary will begin in February 2024 and is set to include cameo appearances from the two music titans.
The ‘Misery’ filmmaker also revealed that country star Garth Brooks will feature and teased a “few other surprises”.
Rob told the RHLSTP with Richard Herring podcast: “We’re making a sequel. We’re going to start shooting at the end of February and everybody is back.”
‘This is Spinal Tap’ starred Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer as members of the fictional English heavy metal band Spinal Tap. Reiner played the role of filmmaker Marty Di Bergi who puts together the mockumentary that chronicles the lives of the band during the American leg of their tour.
McKean, Shearer and Guest are all returning as David St. Hubbins, Derek Smalls and Nigel Tufnel respectively to form the nucleus of the band.
Reiner explained last year that he wanted the sequel to be released in 2024 to mark 40 years since the original flick.
The 76-year-old director told Deadline: “The plan is to do a sequel that comes out on the 40th anniversary of the original film and I can tell you hardly a day goes by without someone saying, why don’t you do another one?
“For so many years, we said, ‘Nah’. It wasn’t until we come up with the right idea how to do this. You don’t want to just do it, to do it. You want to honour the first one and push it a little further with the story.”

‘I’d like to dip in here and there!’ Hannah Waddingham up for part-time This Morning role

OHMYGOSSIP — Hannah Waddingham would love a part-time hosting role on ‘This Morning’.
The ‘Ted Lasso’ star, 49, performed a mock introduction to the programme in March when she was on the show to be interviewed by co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, after which some fans called for the actress to land a more permanent presenting role on the programme.
While Hannah has now made it clear she does not want to be tied down with a permanent job on the show, she would love to “dip in here and there”.
When asked on TalkTV if she would be up for hosting the show, she said: “I’d like to dip in here and there. I’m happy with what I’m doing.”
Her comments come after her agent was reportedly approached by ITV bosses about Hannah possibly landing a position on the show, following Holly Willoughby’s exit in October.
The source told The Sun newspaper: “Hannah is a huge Hollywood star and would, of course, be welcome on the This Morning sofa.
“Some conversations with her team were had in the summer to see what her availability might be.
“But since then, she’s obviously become even more in demand so, realistically, will not replace Holly Willoughby in the new year.”
Holly stunned fans in October when she quit ‘This Morning’, just days after it was announced she was taking an “extended break” from the show after a man appeared in court in Essex over an alleged plot to kidnap her.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.
To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.”

‘We had more to give!’ Angela Scanlon feels time on Strictly Come Dancing was ‘cut a little short’

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Scanlon feels her time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ was “cut a little short”.
The 39-year-old TV presenter was axed from the BBC show on Sunday night (26.11.23) after she and her professional partner Carlos Gu lost out to ‘Bad Education’ star Layton Williams and his pro partner Nikita Kuzmin in the dance-off, but Angela would’ve loved to have stayed in the BBC Latin and ballroom series for longer.
She wrote on Instagram: “Over and out. What a wild ride it’s been, feels like it’s been cut a little short but maybe there’s a bigger plan (sic)”
Angela admitted she found performing on the show to be “hard”, but insisted she and Carlos had “a lot more to give” on the dance floor.
She added: “When I signed up to do Strictly I hoped I’d leave the show with a [bum] like Kim Kardashian and a few killer moves for family weddings. What I hadn’t anticipated (and maybe it’s still too early to really feel through the sobs) is how much growth there would really be (not just my glutes). To get out there every week in front of millions with no control, as a recovering perfectionist, was HARD. To pick up every week and go again was HARD. To receive feedback wasn’t always cute. To juggle and keep the show on the road while trying to nail a Paso Doble was HARD.
“But… to dance every week was easy. To feel his belief and faith. To laugh. To pick each other up. To share food and ideas and vulnerability. To stand under the lights with this man’s arm around me, was easy. It feels somewhat premature and we had a lot more to give but to have met a soul that knows mine deeply, a heart that is as open, is an absolutely unexpected gift. I feel like the LUCKIEST @gkx_carlos you are my favourite x (sic)”
Angela has been in tears following her ‘Strictly’ exit.
She added: “I have so much more to say, and so many more people to thank (!) but right now I’m crying in an Epsom salt bath while eating a cinnamon swirl so you’ll have to wait for Part 2!
Finally, who’s idea was Take That @bbcstrictly ?! It broke us @nancy_xuxi our hype girl, thank you for capturing this x (sic)”

‘I had no interest’: Taika Waititi only made Thor: Ragnarok because he needed the money

OHMYGOSSIP — Taika Waititi only directed ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ because he was “poor”.
The 48-year-old filmmaker has helmed two movies in the superhero franchise but explained how he had “no interest” in working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and only did so to support his children financially.
Speaking on the ‘Smartless’ podcast, Taika said: “You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films. It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur.
“But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.'”
The ‘Next Goal Wins’ director added: “And ‘Thor’, let’s face it – it was probably the least popular franchise. I never read ‘Thor’ comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like ‘Ugh’. And then I did some research on it, and I read one ‘Thor’ comic or 18 pages, or however long they are.”
Taika also suggested that Marvel reaching out to him implied that they were unsure about what to do next with the franchise.
He explained: “I think there was no place left for them to go with that. I thought, ‘Well, they’ve called me in, this is really the bottom of the barrel.'”
Meanwhile, Waititi explained that he is unlikely to be involved in the next ‘Thor’ movie as he has a variety of other projects to focus on – including a new ‘Star Wars’ picture.
He told Insider: “I know that I won’t be involved. I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for. So that’s six, seven years gone. I’d imagine another ‘Thor’ would be a lot sooner than that.
“But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris (Hemsworth). We’re in an open relationship and it’s like, if they want to see other people I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

‘I feel born again! Charlotte Crosby breaks down in tears as she gushes over motherhood

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Crosby broke down in tears on live TV as she told how becoming a mother has made her feel “born again”, and it is her “priority” to have more kids before she gets married.
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ star got engaged in Dubai earlier this month when her fiance Jake Ankers – who she has 13-month-old daughter Alba with – popped the question, but she might not marry her significant other until 2027, because she wants to add to her family first.
When asked about her wedding, she said on ‘This Morning’: “Not for a while, I want more babies.
“That is my priority. I would love to have a long engagement, I can’t wait for the wedding, 2026/ 27 is more likely.”
Charlotte then started getting emotional as she told how being a mother has changed her life for the better.
She added: “More babies is my priority, I love being a mam. It is the best thing that ever happened to us, it’s just so fulfilling.
“I got a bit emotional saying that. I just love being a mam, it just changed my life. I feel like she made me feel like I am born again.”
When asked how many kids she wants, she said: “Five.”
The camera then panned to Jake, who looked shocked at the suggestion.
Charlotte recently turned to singing as she took part in ‘The Masked Singer Australia’ series five, in which she starred as Space Fairy.
The ‘Charlotte in Sunderland’ star would love to record a charity single in the future after her mum was previously diagnosed with the disease.
When asked if she could record a Christmas album next year, she said: “No. I’d do a charity song for a breast cancer charity, because my mam just had breast cancer.
“She’s had the all-clear, which is amazing, so I’d like to do something to raise some money. Maybe for the ward she was on.
“They were really, really great. Something like that, but I don’t think I’d go seriously into it [music]. I think people might laugh.”

Gregg Wallace hopes Grace Dent is ‘OK’ after I’m A Celebrity exit but downplays food theory

OHMYGOSSIP — Gregg Wallace hopes Grace Dent is “OK” after she left ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ “on medical grounds” – but has poured cold water on a fan theory it was because of the food in the jungle.
The ‘MasterChef’ judge doesn’t think the 50-year-old restaurant critic, who regularly appears on the BBC One show to critique the contestants’ creations, will have been “put off” by the rice and beans grub in camp, because she has eaten some questionable meals on ‘MasterChef’ over the years.
Speaking at the Rose d’Or Awards, he told reporters: “She’s been a restaurant critic for years and years – she’s eaten some really bad food! That won’t have been it.
“I’ve stood beside her while she’s cut into semi-raw chicken – there’s no way that [the jungle] would’ve put her off!
“I don’t know why she’s gone. We’re in the middle of filming so I don’t know – I just hope she’s OK.”
Gregg’s comments come after he departed ‘I’m A Celebrity’ this week “medical grounds”.
On Monday night’s (27.11.23) episode, campmate Nick Pickard read out a message from Grace following her jungle exit.
It read: “My dear campmates, I’m so sorry to let you down.
In response to the message, ‘I’m A Celebrity’ star Frankie Dettori said: “Grace, we miss you.”
Danielle Harold said: “Love you, Grace.”
Grace’s exit from the show was first confirmed by ITV.
The broadcaster said in a statement: “Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds.
“She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike.”

Phil Tufnell puts his underwear on suitcases to keep them safe from thieves

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Tufnell ties his underpants to his suitcases to ensure nobody steals them.
The England cricket icon, 57, admitted putting his spare Y-fronts on his suitcase gives him peace of mind that nobody but him will want to touch them, but doing so also makes his suitcases more recognisable on the airport carousel after a tiring journey.
In his new book ‘The Tourist’, he wrote: “Let’s face it, half of them [suitcases] look exactly the same. It’s not beyond the realms of imagination that someone else might mistakenly clear off with yours.
“That exact thing happened to my wife Dawn and ever since I’ve swathed the Tufnell bags in all sorts of rags, ribbons and bandages to make sure they stand out on the carousel.
“A pair of Y-fronts wrapped round the handle generally ensures a bag is left well alone.”
Apart from his savvy suitcase antics, Phil admitted his travelling experiences aren’t always as relaxing as he would want them to be.
The sportsman moaned about frequently getting searched by security teams, which leaves him irritated.
He wrote: “I don’t know if I’ve got the face of an international drugs mule, but I’m seemingly always pulled over for a baggage check. It’s as if someone has rung ahead: ’Yep, he’s on the flight. Could staff on the ground please get the rubber gloves ready.’ ”
Phil insisted he has been searched so much during his journeys, he now expects his personal space to be invaded whenever he travels.
He wrote: “It’s reached the stage now where I’m expecting to experience a cavity search at every travel hub. ‘But this is Euston Station! I’m only going to Watford! I’m not sure a train conductor is allowed to do that.’ ”

The 36-year-old comedian-and-writer was recognised in the Comedy Entertainment category for his Netflix special ‘A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou’.
Speaking ahead of his victory, Jamie confessed that he hadn’t actually prepared a winner’s speech.
Discussing his nomination with assembled media, he said: “I hadn’t really thought about that!
“Who fancies their chances? ‘Taskmaster’ will probably get it, and I love ‘Taskmaster’.”
However, the right words came to Jamie when he stepped on stage to receive his statuette along with the producers who worked on the special, which included ‘The Inbetweeners’ star Simon Bird, and he also took time out to pay tribute to host David Baddiel.
In his acceptance speech, Jamie said: “Thanks very much. What a lovely looking award this is. It needs to be said, David’s opening monologue is honestly one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. Congratulations fellow nominees. This was a lovely night. Thank you so much. It’s really exciting.”
Sarah, 59, received the prestigious Performance of the Year prize for her role as Sgt Catherine Cawood in BBC One crime drama ‘Happy Valley’.
The special accolade is given to a personality who has made an outstanding performance in a programme or series in the past year and previous winners include Sir David Attenborough, Brian Cox, Ricky Gervais, Joanna Lumley, John Cleese and the late Angela Lansbury among others.
On accepting her award, Sarah said: “This is thrilling, [I want to] thank those who are responsible for bringing this amazing series to screen.”
The Rose d’Or Awards ceremony celebrates international excellence in entertainment programming. It began in 1961 when it was created by Swiss Television in the lakeside city of Montreux and it has been a flagship event for the European Broadcasting Union and the international TV industry ever since.
The 2023 ceremony saw 700 entries from across the world, with over 100 broadcast executives and leading producers from the television industry voting on the winners across 13 competitive categories.
Chair of the Rose d’Or, Mark Rowland, said: “The Rose d’Or Awards 2023 saw a wider range of subjects and treatments than ever before, with over 700 entries from 30 countries. It was a tough challenge for the judges – it came down to an incredibly strong group of finalists and to these worthy winners. For anyone who hasn’t watched these shows yet, you have a treat in store.”
Other winners on the night included Ayo Edebiri who received the Emerging Talent award for her stand out role as Sydney in restaurant drama ‘The Bear’.
