Danny Dyer returning for The Football Factory sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — A sequel to ‘The Football Factory’ is in development.
The follow-up to the 2004 movie about football hooligans has been given the working title ‘Marching Powder’ in a reference to the drug-taking featured in the original film.
Danny Dyer will reprise his role as the Chelsea hooligan Tommy Johnson, with shooting set to start in the coming weeks as film bosses aim for a 2024 release to mark 20 years since the original flick.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s full steam ahead for ‘Football Factory 2’ and filming is due to start in January.
“The hope is they can turn it around quickly enough so it comes out in 2024 – in time for the 20th anniversary.”
The insider continued: “The script for ‘Marching Powder’ will reveal what happened to the rival factions of hooligans after the end of the last film.
“It’s a real passion project for Danny who can’t wait to get his teeth back into the role.
“Tamer Hassan – who played Millwall firm leader Fred – is also back for the film.
“The finishing touches are being put on the production plan and all things being well, it’s going to be a really exciting start to the New Year.”
It was revealed earlier this year that Danny, 46, had held talks with director Nick Love about returning for a sequel following his exit from the BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’.
A source told The Sun: “Danny is a free agent after leaving ‘EastEnders’ and he has been in talks with the director Nick about a sequel to ‘The Football Factory’.
“The film ended with Danny’s character Tommy recovering from being battered by a group of Millwall fans.
“The idea is that the new project would follow Tommy in the years that followed, and what happened in the firm and the new generation coming up behind him.”

Paul King defends Hugh Grant’s Wonka casting as Oompa-Loompa after criticism

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Wonka’ director Paul King has defended the decision to cast Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa.
The 63-year-old actor portrays the diminutive Lofty in the origin story for Roald Dahl’s famous ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ character and the filmmaker felt that the ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ star fitted the part despite criticism that an actor with dwarfism was not cast.
Paul told BBC News: “Dahl describes (the Oompa-Loompas) as no higher than my knee or about the size of a medium size doll.
“We tried to use the iconic look that they came up with in the 1971 movie with the green hair and the orange skin, and merge that with the way Dahl described them, in a way I think they may have done, had they had the technology we have today.”
Grant’s role was questioned earlier this year by George Coppen, an actor with dwarfism, who felt that the part should have gone to a performer with the condition because of the limited number of roles available to them.
He told the BBC: “A lot of actors [with dwarfism] feel like we are being pushed out of the industry we love.
“A lot of people, myself included, argue that dwarfs should be offered everyday roles in dramas and soaps, but we aren’t getting offered those roles.
“One door is being closed but they have forgotten to open the next one.”
Meanwhile, Timothee Chalamet emulates Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp by playing Willy Wonka on the big screen and explained how he wanted to portray the younger chocolate factory proprietor in a different manner to that of his predecessors.
The 27-year-old star said at the film’s premiere in London on Tuesday (28.11.23): “This isn’t the Willy Wonka with a couple of screws loose, that we see in the Gene Wilder and the other version.
“This is a young, ambitious, hopeful, won’t-take-no for an answer, sprightly, light Willy.”

Hugh Bonneville’s hit BBC drama The Gold to return

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Gold’ has been green-lit for a second season.
‘Downtown Abbey’ star Hugh Bonneville, ‘Cinderella’ actress Charlotte Spencer and ‘Guilt’ actor Emun Elliott will be reprising their roles as Brian Boyce, Nicki Jennings and Tony Brightwell respectively as the police officers desperately trying to deal with the consequences of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery, the largest in British history.
Writer and executive producer Neil Forsyth has expressed his excitement in continuing the thrilling story.
He said: “I am delighted that we have been given the opportunity to tell the rest of the Brink’s-Mat story, which sees the consequences of the robbery and its aftermath grow only more surprising, dramatic and far-reaching, both in Britain and around the world.”
The second season will also see Tom Cullen, Stefanie Martini and Sam Spruell reprise their parts as John Palmer, Marnie Palmer and Charlie Miller, and promises to explore what happened to the other half of the criminals who escaped the robbery, and the investigation into it in what was the longest and most expensive investigation for the Metropolitan Police ever.
Directory of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt teased viewers that the next instalment of the programme will be just as gripping as the first.
She added: “I am delighted that we have been given the opportunity to tell the rest of the Brink’s-Mat story, which sees the consequences of the robbery and its aftermath grow only more surprising, dramatic and far-reaching, both in Britain and around the world.”
Series one of the programme premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer earlier this year to a huge audience of 8.7 million, meaning it ranking in the UK’s top five most watched new dramas of the year, across all channels and platforms.
Filming for the second season will begin in January.

Nicholas Lyndhurst ‘is most talented actor’ Kelsey Grammer has worked with

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicholas Lyndhurst “is the most talented actor” Kelsey Grammer has ever worked with.
The ‘Only Fools And Horses’ legend, 62, is appearing alongside Kelsey in the reboot of ‘Frasier’ for Paramount+, with the 68-year-old having nothing but kind words to say about his co-star.
He told Deadline: “Nick Lyndhurst. He’s stealth warfare. He is just the sneakiest most talented actor I’ve ever worked with.
“We worked together in London on the musical, Man of La Mancha [in 2019].
“We made plans to get [our partners] together and we became best friends. So when the idea of Frasier having a best friend came into the mix, it was always Nicholas.
“I asked him when we were back in England if he’d like to be in the new Frasier. He said, ‘Are you kidding? I would do anything to work with you again every day for the rest of my life.’ The feeling is mutual.”
Kelsey also gushed about the rebooted show, and emphasised that he was confident it would continue to thrive, with well “over 100 episodes” already written.
He said: “We do have really talented writers who will come up with ideas and we’ll discuss it. It’s a collaborative effort.”
Previously, the programme’s casting director Jeff Greenberg admitted that he did not know Nicolas or his work on the fan-favourite BBC comedy show, but was immediately taken by how amazingly talented he was once he arrived on set.
He told Metro.co.uk: “I’ve never worked with [Nicholas] before and don’t really know his work as well as everyone in the UK. He is a revelation, he is so fantastic. He is really outstanding in this part, he is truly hilarious.
“I really wasn’t as familiar with him as I could have been, and he just bowled me over. He’s just incredible.”

Katherine Ryan keeps getting pregnant to avoid I’m A Celebrity

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan has joked she “keeps having children” to avoid ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’
The ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ comedian, 39, has long been scouted for the ITV reality show, but she has joked she would do anything to get out of heading to the jungle.
She told the Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasure column: “I’m the worst candidate to really be on that show, so I keep having children to make sure I’m not available!”
The ‘Ready To Mingle’ host explained that she refused to leave her children to get up close and personal with creepy-crawlies in the Australia.
She said: “They’ve checked my availability in the past maybe, but I’ve always had small children and I wouldn’t want to be away from them in Australia for 30 days. I just wouldn’t.”
Although she admitted the show had done some good for her fellow TV friends, she emphasised that she was put off by the eating and drinking Bush Tucker Trials.
She added: “I’ve seen that show do wonderful things for my friends Vicky Pattinson and Joel Dommett.
“We really got to see Joel’s personality on I’m A Celebrity and I think comedians are great as they have nothing to hide.
“But I don’t do well with sun and I don’t think I’d like to eat crazy things and be scare and I don’t like snakes or spiders.”
As well as the ITV programme, Katherine is also not keen to put on her dancing shoes for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ if an offer was ever made, but won’t rule it out completely.
She said: “I love to have this job and I feel very grateful to be able to make people laugh for a living, especially when times are very dark.
“I think it it’s funny then I’d definitely want to do it. They have sort of enquired about Strictly before – not a direct offer.
“But that just takes so much rehearsal time and I haven’t been married long enough to have an affair!”

Taskmaster VR in development as Channel 4 show gets video game twist

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Taskmaster’ is expanding with a new virtual reality game.
The wild and wacky Channel 4 series stars Greg Davies in the title role with show creator Alex Horne as his assistant as celebrities face off in a range of ridiculous challenges.
Now, studio Scallywag Arcade is developing a VR game to let fans join in the fun as a contestant.
Alex said in a statement: “Genuinely, this is extraordinary, brilliant and very fun.
“Also, I’ve always wanted to be a contestant on Taskmaster so this is great for me as a VR user, except that I will also have my virtual self watching my attempts and undermining my confidence so I may well regret the whole venture after I’ve had a go.”
Greg added: “The team have done an incredible job and the game is a really exciting addition to the ‘Taskmaster’ world.
“On a personal note, the creation of a virtual reality Taskmaster takes me ever closer to my ultimate goal of working without even leaving my sofa.”
The game has been created – in partnership with production company Avalon – by the new Liverpool-based indie studio, which includes staff previously at the likes of Aardman, Merge Games, Warner Bros and PlayStation.
Tasks featured in the game include smashing watermelons and tidying up rubber ducks, as well as the “most chaotic VR bath VR” has witnessed.

Will Mellor wants new TV home for Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps after BBC snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor wants to find a new home for ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’.
The 47-year-old actor – who played mechanic Gaz Wilkinson on the classic BBC comedy alongside Ralf Little, Sheridan Smith, Natalie Casey and Kathryn Drysdale – is keen for the show to make a comeback but bosses at the Beeb have turned down the idea.
Revealing his hopes another channel might take him up on the idea, he told OK! magazine: “The BBC turned it down, but I’d love to see what Gaz and Jonny are up to now. I’m here and I’ve said I’ll do it if we can get the funding.”
Susan Nickson – who created the sitcom, which ran from 2001 to 2011 – has already penned a script called ‘Two Pints – Last Orders’.
And Will has pointed to the show’s focus on highlighting “the working class” as another reason for a potential return.
He added: “We were representing people that weren’t being represented – the working class who just play pool, chat about life and have a few beers.
“And it’s really nostalgic, which is big at the moment. People love to reminisce about it.
“It was on for 10 years and a lot of people were on that journey with us.”
He has stayed close to former co-star Ralf – who played Jonny in the show – and they still work together on the ‘Two Pints With Will And Ralf’ podcast.
Will said: “We disagree on things and we’re very different people, but he makes me laugh and I make him laugh, so our friendship just works.
“We still really enjoy each other’s company.”
Meanwhile, Will is poised for a ‘Coronation Street’ comeback in the upcoming New Year’s episode after being last seen on the cobbles at the end of 2022.

Matty Edgell wins The Great British Bake Off!

OHMYGOSSIP — Matty Edgell has won ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The 28-year-old teacher has been crowned the ‘Bake Off’ champion after he overcame competition from Josh and Dan to win the Channel 4 series.
After being named the winner, Matty said: “I don’t know what to say … everyone said you should go on ‘Bake Off’ and I thought it was a throwaway comment and never really listened to it.
“I never thought I would be on the show let alone win it!”
Paul Hollywood heaped praise on Matty after he was crowned the winner.
The 57-year-old chef noted that Matty got “better and better” throughout the series.
He said: “He just got better and better and better and if you are going to smash it you do it in the last challenge, and that is exactly what he did.”
Prue Leith was also full of praise for the new ‘Bake Off’ winner.
She said: “I have never met a more cheerful, smiling, uncomplaining and willing baker.
“He was just having such a good time, learning as much as he could, taking on board everything either of us said.”
Matty managed to wow the judges with his showstopper cake.
Despite this, the teacher joked that his eye-catching effort was leaning a bit for “dramatic effect”.
Prue said: “What a great cake.”
Paul described the cake as being “absolutely delicious”.
Elsewhere, Dan made a lemon drizzle cake. However, the sponge cracked on his effort and Dan was told that the lemon flavour needed to be stronger.
Meanwhile, Josh’s ‘Slice For All Seasons’ cake received a mixed response from the judges.
Paul observed that the “the pipe work is not very neat”, while the flavours were simply described as “adequate”.

Nigel Farage and Nella Rose argue over cultural appropriation

OHMYGOSSIP — Nigel Farage and Nella Rose argued over cultural appropriation on the latest episode of ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’.
The 59-year-old politician and Nella, 26, became involved in a debate about cultural appropriation, after some of the other campers mimicked her accent.
Speaking to Fred Sirieix, Farage said: “If you say that Fred, they call it cultural appropriation.”
Nella then replied: “Everyone doing my accent. Is that cultural appropriation?”
Farage subsequently claimed that people only criticise “when it suits”.
Asked to elaborate on his view, Farage added: “If a white person does a black accent, that’s considered to be a crime – they are cancelled.”
On the other hand, Nella argued that it “depends on the context”.
The duo then disagreed over what’s appropriate to wear to a fancy dress party.
Farage – who previously led the UK Independence Party – later added: “There is enormous confusion. I’m no further forward about what is acceptable and what is not.”
Nella, on the other hand, turned to Josie Gibson to air her frustrations.
She said: “I’m just gonna focus on the people who are nice.”
Nella also voiced her concerns in a piece to camera.
She shared: “I’m so disappointed in him. We’ve been getting on so well. Bro, we live together. These are your thoughts!”
Meanwhile, Nella was exempt from the latest Bushtucker Trial after she went to visit the show’s medics.
ITV said in a statement: “For medical reasons, Nella Rose is being treated by the show’s on-site medics and will be returning to camp shortly. As a result, she is exempt from the next trial.”
Farage and Nick Pickard are now set to take on the trial.
The duo are poised to face a challenge known as In Too Deep and scenes from the trial will air on the next episode of the show.

Suranne Jones wants to make TV shows she’s ‘not in’

OHMYGOSSIP — Suranne Jones can’t wait to make TV shows that she’s “not in”.
The ‘Vigil’ actress has a production company, TeamAkers Productions Ltd., with her husband Laurence Akers and she’s very excited about what they have in the pipeline, particularly because “eventually” they will come up with programmes that she isn’t involved with on camera.
Speaking at a Q+A event for the new series of ‘Vigil’, she said: “We set up our production company and we made Maryland and we just made our first documentary. We’ve got two commissions that will go into production next year.
“I am hoping to eventually make projects that I’m not in, so I can just make a cup of tea! I’m very excited about our projects.”
Suranne is delighted there are so many great roles for women these days.
She said: “I think we just don’t take our foot off the gas – that’s the big thing.
“From when I started, 25 years ago, things have come a long way. There are so many people who can put our stories, which is fabulous, and TV has changed.
“So I think the key is just to not settle and to keep finding the stories and pushing those people to come forward.”
Meanwhile, the 45-year-old actress – who has a seven-year-old son with her spouse – believes she and her ‘Vigil’ character, DCI Amy Silva, are verysimilar.
She said: “I think when you fall in love with the character, and it’s just a one off piece, you wish you could have developed or delved more, or there’s things you’d want to know. So coming back to second series is great.
“Being a woman who constantly wants to prove herself and feels like a responsibility of many people, when we’re out filming and when crews are doing lots for us – I think Amy and I share that.
“I have a child. I share that [with Amy]. I’m constantly trying to balance my life and my career. I share that.
“I’ve had issues with anxiety, which Amy has had. So there’s a lot of things that I can relate to. That’s the beauty of finding the characters where you can go, ‘that’s the one’ when you read it.”

Avatar 3 will be in post production for two years

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron will spend two years on “post production” for ‘Avatar 3’.
The 69-year-old filmmaker has given an update on the upcoming movie – which follows last year’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ – and after its release was delayed, he is targeting a launch by the end of 2025.
Speaking at a breakfast for TV New Zealand, he said: “We’re into a very hectic two years of post production right now, so it’ll be Christmas of ’25.”
Earlier this year, Cameron offered a hint of what fans can expect from the next sequel as he pushes on with plans to have five films in the blockbuster series.
He told Deadline: “Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there’s a culture that is specifically around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak.”
Disney previously announced the next three movies in the sci-fi franchise have been delayed by a year, with ‘Avatar 3’ coming on December 19, 2025, while ‘Avatar 4’ will follow four years later, with ‘Avatar 5’ expected on the same date in 2031, a whole 22 years after the first movie dropped in 2009.
Zoe Saldana – who voices Neytiri in the films – is dismayed at how old she will be in the last movie.
Taking to her Instagram Story over the summer, the 44-year-old actress wrote: “Great! I’m gonna be 53 when the last Avatar comes out [shocked face emoji].
“I was 27 when I shot the very first Avatar.”
Her co-star Sam Worthington, 46, who plays Jake Sully, will be 55.
‘Avatar’ producer Jon Landau announced on Twitter: “Each Avatar film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect. The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.”

‘A lot of auto-tune’: Timothee Chalamet jokes about singing skills in Wonka

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothée Chalamet joked he needed “a lot of auto-tune” in ‘Wonka’.
The 27-year-old actor portrays confectioner Willy Wonka in the ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ prequel, and while he found learning the dance routines a “great learning experience”, having to sing proved more of a challenge.
Speaking to ‘Extra’ at the world premiere of the movie in London on Tuesday (28.11.23), he joked about his singing: “I try. It is a lot of auto-tune… No, I’m kidding!”
And of the dancing, he added: “I loved it… My mom is a dance teacher and my grandmother was a dancer, my sister is a dancer, so I was always sort of around it but it’s a big difference between being around it and having to do it… It was a great learning experience.”
Timothée recalled how quickly he was “charmed” by the script for the origin story and insisted it is a valid addition to Roald Dahl’s original tale.
He said: “I thought it was very clever, and I know people can be kind of cynical about Hollywood remakes and there’s a fine line between it feeling warranted, but within three pages of reading the script I was so charmed by what Paul [King] had come up with for Willy’s origin story and a snapshot of how Willy was before success, before becoming the man that wants to give away the chocolate factory, before being the man that has a chocolate factory.”
But the ‘Dune’ actor needed to learn how to “live and love the tone” of the film by going back to his younger years as it was much less “serious” than a lot of his recent work.
He told People magazine: “I realised everything I’ve worked on [has had a] grounded seriousness to it, and here I had to loosen up and play, kind of like I did in high school, but I hadn’t done in 10 years or something. So, that was the learning curve.
“But once it was in full swing, then it felt like we were cookin.’ ”

BBC promises ‘unrivalled’ Doctor Who secrets in official podcast

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell T Davies has promised “unrivalled behind the scenes coverage” from ‘The Official Doctor Who Podcast’.
The returning showrunner approached the broadcaster over the idea, which dropped its first 30-minute show after Saturday’s (25.11.23) big return for the first of three 60th anniversary episodes starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate.
Following the first edition, Russell said in a statement: “No show is complete without its own podcast, and this is a chance for viewers to have their say!
“I’m proud to have this alongside our vast and unrivalled behind-the-scenes coverage.”
The panel discussion features author Juno Dawson, TikTok star and podcaster Tyrell Charles and cosplayer Christel Dee, as well as exclusive insights from Russell himself.
Each week, they will react to the latest episode and be “diving into upcoming theories”.
BBC Studios’ digital content development director, Chris Allen, commented: “We were thrilled and honoured when Russell T Davies approached us to produce The Official Doctor Who Podcast.
“And we were even more excited when Juno, Tyrell and Christel all said yes to hosting.
“Publishing the podcast both in audio via all major podcast platforms, and in video on YouTube means we can reach Doctor Who viewers everywhere, and we hope you join in our conversation.”
Russell has already been revealing tidbits from the show, as he admitted he wanted The Meep twist in ‘The Star Beast’ – which starred Miriam Margolyes as the voice of the adorable looking creature – to come much earlier in the episode.
He said: “In draft one, it was practically straight away, or in Rose’s shed, as in the comic strip, he reveals himself a significant chunk earlier – before the chase, not after the chase.
“So in the very first script, it’s like he’d be in Rose’s shed and she’d say, ‘I was making toys,’ and things like that, and every time she turned her head… he’d look at camera and go, ‘Soon I will feast on her blood!’ which I thought was really funny.
“I was told, my bosses gave me notes, they said he revealed himself as a villain too soon.”
The Official Doctor Who Podcast can be found on all major podcast platforms globally and BBC Sounds (UK only).
The video version can be found on www.youtube.com/doctorwho.

Matty Edgell won’t quit day job after Great British Bake Off win

OHMYGOSSIP — Matty Edgell rules out leaving his day job after winning ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The 28-year-old culinary star baked his way to victory and was crowned this year’s winner of the Channel 4 show, beating rivals Dan Hunter and Josh Smalley to the title, but that doesn’t mean he will let his newfound fame get to his head.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: “I hope ‘Bake Off’ might just change my life a little bit, but being a PE teacher is something I really enjoy.”
Matty added that his pupils had been tuning in to watch their teacher skills in the kitchen.
He continued: “I know they will think it’s cool that I have won but at the same time they will be really surprised.
“They have invested in me throughout the series so there will be a sense of pride with them all, of sharing the winning with me. I was so blown away by their support.”
Although he is elated at being crowned champion of the Channel 4 programme, Matty admitted he did not believe he could win after having countless mishaps and making several big mistakes in the tent.
He said: “Without a shadow of a doubt, I was the official underdog throughout the series, so I think everyone was surprised when I made it to the final and then won it, including me!”
After the PE teacher emerged victorious in last night’s (28.11.23) final, Matty was speechless, but made sure to congratulate his fellow contestants.
He added: “It was quite a tough final. We were all aware of how close we were in baking skills.
“Dan and Josh were great to have as fellow finalists, but it was a shock for everybody when Tasha went at the semi-final. She was such a good baker and equally such a lovely person, we were all so sorry to see her go.”

James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to star in new William the Conqueror drama

OHMYGOSSIP — James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will lead a new historical drama about William the Conqueror.
‘King and Conqueror’ – produced by CBS Studios and set to air on BBC One and iPlayer – will see the ‘Little Women’ actor play Harold, Earl of Wessex, in a power struggle for the English throne with the ‘Game of Thrones’ star as William, Duke of Normandy, before the fateful Battle of Hastings in 1066, which ultimately saw the Norman take the thrown after Harold was killed by an arrow to the eye.
The eight-part historical drama will be written by ‘Sherlock Holmes’ creative Michael Robert Johnson.
In a statement, the Head of BBC Programme Acquisition Sue Deeks described her excitement for the show, and promised viewers a powerful and gripping tale.
She said: “In the UK, we learn about William the Conqueror, the Battle of Hastings and King Harold’s gruesome death in our school history lessons – but those headlines are all most of us can remember.
“’King and Conqueror’ will bring Harold and William to life, depicting their lives, loves and families, and the gripping, high stakes power game that led to their fateful meeting in 1066. With incredible talent both in front of and behind the camera, I cannot wait for this exciting project to be realised.”
As well as starring in the show, James will be an executive producer for the project through his production company Rabbit Track Pictures, whilst Nikolaj will be getting behind the camera for an episode as well as also serving as an executive producer.
The opening episode will be directed by ‘Trapped’ and ‘Adrift’ creative Baltasar Kormakur, with filming set to begin in Iceland next year.
The Sr. Vice President of International Co-Productions and Development for CBS Studios Lindsey Martin expressed her joy with working with these talents, and emphasised the show will be a “fresh take” on a classic English story.
She said: “We are thrilled to partner with James, Nikolaj, Baltasar, and the entire creative team on ‘King and Conqueror’, a truly groundbreaking series with world class talent and global reach.
“Michael’s scripts offer a bold and fresh take on a story that has endured for nearly 1,000 years, and yet, the themes are as contemporary and relevant as ever.
“We are incredibly proud of what the team has achieved so far and can’t wait to see it all come to fruition on screen with our star-studded cast.”

Chris Backham calls I’m A Celebrity a ‘grotesque blot’ on Ant and Dec’s reputation

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Packham says ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ is a “grotesque blot” on Ant and Dec’s reputation.
The 62-year-old naturalist and BBC presenter has been vocal in his criticism of the ITV reality show over the years amid allegations of animal abuse, and he has called on the hosts to take a stand.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) this week, he wrote: “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! remains a grotesque blot on the reputations of both yourselves and ITV.
“Its continued exploitation of animals for entertainment is an anachronistic embarrassment.”
He urged producers to “listen to the voices of concern” while pointing to falling viewing figures as “the writing on the wall”.
Chris continued: “The cruel exploitation of wildlife for gratuitous entertainment continues to damage the reputation of the UK as a ‘nation of animal lovers.’ ”
He has criticised the show before, but ITV bosses have defended the series and insisted they have done nothing wrong.
A spokesman told the Daily Star newspaper: “As a production, we comply with all laws concerning the use of insects, animals reptiles.”
Last year, Chris described the show’s approach to animals as “medieval”, and branded the old “animals for entertainment” schtick “lazy thinking” and a contrast to what his naturalist work is all about.
In a previous statement after criticism from charity PETA, ITV said: “We are always fully transparent about our protocols and we have a very strict environmental plan in place on the show.
“As a production, we comply with all regional and national laws concerning the use of insects, animals and reptiles.
“Welfare and safety is always the primary priority on any of our programmes, and at any Bushtucker trial that features animals, we have qualified and experienced animal handlers on-site at all times.
“We inform the RSPCA NSW of all of our activities on the show and they have an open invitation to attend the site at any time.”
