Loose Women star Kaye Adams wins 10-year tax battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams has won her 10-year tax battle against HMRC.
The 61-year-old journalist has been arguing with the law enforcement agency over her status as a self-employed individual in a clampdown on IR35 rules, with HMRC claiming that she had been deemed as an employee of the BBC during the relevant tax years in which she was hosting ‘The Kaye Adams Programme’ on BBC Radio Scotland.
The TV star won a third court battle in 2023 over a disputed £124,000 tax bill, but HMRC has now decided not to appeal the victory, meaning that Kaye – through her company Atholl House Productions – is now found to be genuinely self-employed.
A spokesman told The Times: “Given this litigation has been ongoing for a number of years and the FTT does not set binding legal precedents, we don’t think it would be proportionate to appeal in this case. We always seek to resolve disputes out of court first and only take action to litigate where this isn’t possible.”
The tax office had argued that Kaye – who is also known as a long-running anchor on the ITV1 chat show ‘Loose Women’ – should have been classified as a bonafide employee and therefore should have been liable to pay more tax, but with this outcome, HMRC has found that she is genuinely self-employed.
Last year, the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant noted that the battle had become “almost unbearable” and spoke of her wish that HRMC would act in her favour so she could plan for the future.
She said: “She added: “I was 51 when this all began, and now, at the age of 60, I would really like to be released from my financial limbo and be able to plan for my future. Having scored a hat-trick of wins, I would politely request that HMRC accepts the emphatic judgment of our courts and desists from appealing yet again.”

Stephen Mulhern still in pain after Ricky Hatton punch

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Mulhern is still in pain after jokingly being punched by Ricky Hatton.
The 46-year-old presenter was “nearly knocked out” during a skit on the first episode of ‘Dancing On Ice’ which saw the former boxer – who was voted off the show on Sunday (21.01.24) after making his debut the week before – strike out in response to him irritating co-host Holly Willoughby, and though the moment was planned, the magician wasn’t prepared for how much it would hurt.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I said to Ricky, do us a favour…Holly will say to you ‘just punch him Ricky’, which she said off the cuff initially and I said ‘we should do that live’.
“Obviously I forgot he’s a three time world champion boxer.
“He nearly knocked me out. If I showed you the bruise, it is massive. It’s on the arm, it’s very painful.”
Stephen – who wore padding to ease his fall when he was knocked to the ground – joked he didn’t mind because he enjoys seeing people fall over on the show.
He laughed: “That’s why the show is so enjoyable. Dancing On Ice, anyone can fall over.
With a cheeky wink, he added: “Not to say I like it when people fall over. But it is quite funny… so yeah I really enjoy that.”
The presenter is “loving” his new job on the skating show, particularly because he gets to work with his former ‘Ministry of Mayhem’ co-host again.
He said: “There’s not many shows out there where you get to do live TV and also I get to do a show with Holly which I haven’t done in so long.
“I trust Holly and she trusts me. We’re having a really nice time.
“You know having stood in once (when Phillip Schofield had Covid last year) – which is also quite weird that it’s gone full circle – I’m loving it.”
Stephen thinks the judges have been quite “harsh” on the contestants so far and he’d be “more generous” with his marks if he was on the ice panel.
He said: “So I am watching and some of the judges scores I think, wow, that’s a bit harsh, because we’re only in week two now.
“We’ve seen six of each, and the judges, yeah I’m like, ‘Wow, I thought they’d give more than that!’
“We’ll have to see how the show goes on, but hopefully they’ll be a bit more generous.”

Cillian Murphy made quick pitch to Matt Damon during rare Oppenheimer break

OHMYGOSSIP — Cillian Murphy pitched ‘Small Things Like These’ to Matt Damon during a break filming ‘Oppenheimer’ in the desert at night.
The 47-year-old actor can next be seen in the adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name, which tells the story of Ireland’s infamous Magdalen laundries, and he explained he got his co-star on board to co-produce via his and Ben Affleck’s Artists Equity firm by telling him the story during a snatched gap between scenes.
He told Variety: “Their company paid for the movie and we produced it together. I pitched it to Matt when we were out in the desert and shooting ‘Oppenheimer’.”
Asked if he’d arranged to meet Matt over dinner to discuss the movie, Cillian – who also produced the movie via his company Big Things Films – said: “I wasn’t going for dinner. I wasn’t eating. It was in between set-ups. I think it was during one of the rain set-ups. There’s no time wasted on a Chris Nolan film. There is rarely sitting around. There are no seats.
“But on this occasion it was a night shoot. We were waiting for the rain towers to get fixed and I pitched him this idea and he went for it.”
The project means a lot to the Irish actor and he hopes they have been able to “do justice” to the original story.
He said: “It’s a film that’s very important to me. I’ve produced it, and I’m acting in it. And it’s an adaptation of a book, which is one of my favorite books. We’re the first Irish film to open [the Berlin Film Festival].
“[The books is] heartbreaking and beautiful and quiet and political. It has all the qualities that I enjoy. I hope we’ve been able to do it justice in the adaptation.”

The Traitors cast all reuniting for special Uncloaked episode after final

OHMYGOSSIP — The entire cast of ‘The Traitors’ will reunite for a special programme immediately after the final.
The series two finale is set to air on BBC One on Friday (26.01.24) as the remaining Faithful and Traitors try to navigate their way to a huge prize pot, and once it’s done all 22 players will be back for Ed Gamble’s BBC Two spin-off show ‘Uncloaked’.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “So far, ‘Uncloaked’ has featured celebrity guests like Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Stacey Dooley, but bosses know the cast themselves are the big draw so are amping it up as a huge reunion special for Friday night.
“It means fans can sit down to a whopping 110 minutes of ‘Traitors’ action – 70 for the main show and 40 for the spin-off.”
The epic game of bluff and deception is hosted by Claudia Winkleman and sees 22 strangers – made up of Faithful and Traitors – come together in a Scottish castle, as they face daily challenges to increase the show’s prize fund up to a maximum of £120,000.
However, among the Faithful are a group of Traitors.
The Faithful’s task throughout the game is to eliminate the Traitors in roundtable banishments, but each night the Traitors can “murder” a Faithful of their choosing.
Any Faithful left at the end of the game will share the prize pot, but if just one Traitor is among them they will win the lot.
Last week, Faithfuls Charlotte Chilton and Charlie Bees were banished and ‘murdered’ respectfully, while there was a huge cliffhanger as Ross Carson was recruited by remaining Traitors Andrew Jenkins – himself a later recruit – and Harry Clark.
In an added twist, the other contenders don’t know that Ross’ mum is actually fellow Faithful Diane, who was taken out by the Traitors in episode seven.

Tom Hollander received Tom Holland’s Marvel payslip by mistake

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Hollander accidentally received Tom Holland’s ‘Avengers’ payslip.
The 56-year-old ‘White Lotus’ actor admitted the surprise mishap occurred due to the almost identical spellings of their surnames, although he joked that they only get confused for each other in a “nonvisual context” as he reflected on the Marvel star 29 years his junior.
Appearing on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, he recalled a moment his agency’s accounts department sent him one of Holland’s paycheques by mistake.
He said: “I thought… I don’t think I’m in the ‘Avengers’. It was an astonishing amount of money – it was not his salary, it was just first box office bonus. Not the whole box office, the first one.
“It was more money than I’ve ever – it was a seven figure sum!”
The ‘Feud: Capote vs. The Swan’ star – who explained the mixup was made by the accounting department when they were “briefly” at the same agency – joked he had been feeling “smug” before he saw the email.
He quipped: “It was a terrible moment. I went to see my friend who was doing theatre in England, for £300 a week, doing great work…
“I sat smugly in the audience having just done a BBC show for 30 grand or something.”
He joked: “My feeling of smugness disappeared very quickly. But that’s showbiz! It’s up, it’s down, it’s hero, it’s zero.”
He cheekily teased that it had been “very difficult” being mistaken for Holland.
He added: “I was here first! But he’s enormously famous.
“Obviously I don’t actually get mistaken for him, but in nonvisual contexts I get mistaken for him all the time.
“So, talking to utility companies, ‘And what’s your name?’ They go, ‘Tom Holland?’ Because they heard Tom Holland – ‘no, it’s Hollander’.
“Or I’m introduced to somebody’s very, very excited, then confused, then disappointed children. They go, ‘My children are so excited to meet you?’ I go, ‘Are they though? I don’t think they are but bring them out!’ ”

Love Island star Jessie Wynter reveals she and Will Young aren’t included in show’s friend groups

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessie Wynter and her boyfriend Will Young aren’t included in the ‘Love Island’ friendship groups.
The 27-year-old personal trainer met the farmer, 23, during the ninth series of the hit ITV2 show, and has since admitted that despite not getting involved in any drama, the couple feel left out from all of the friendship groups.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: “We don’t actually bump into many Islanders from our season, we bump into Islanders from other seasons. It’s not very common we see Islanders from our season. Whenever I’ve seen them, everything is all good, I always stop to say hello to people.
“I do think perhaps that they are more in a friendship group, there’s a few groups from my season, it’s a bit divided. I’ve not taken sides, ever, I always say hello to everyone. I don’t think Will and I are really included in the groups. But we’re really happy with each other.”
Looking to on ‘Love Island: All Stars’, which sees contestants from previous series return to the villa, Jessie revealed she was excitement to see the “history between a lot of Islanders” unfold.
She said: ”It would be nice to see a few more Love Island couples!
“I do think there’s a lot of history between a lot of Islanders, crossing over at parties and then dating history, even like a friend of a friend.
“It’s really interesting to see that put all into one place. It’s going to be completely different.
“The Islanders are going to be a lot more stern and I think they’re probably going to get a little more fed up with the environment, they’ve done it once in their life and it’s intense.”
Reflecting on her time on the programme, Jessie admitted she didn’t expect to fall as hard as she did for anyone.
She explained: “I really wanted it but I didn’t think it would happen. I don’t believe that we’re here where we are now, he’s [Will] literally here in Australia with me!
“I knew that if you found the right person in there, it’s the perfect place to build a relationship because you’re trapped with them for 24 hours a day. What better way there’s no distractions, you can’t go to work. You can’t even go to the gym without each other.”

Joel Dommett hoping for second series of Survivor

OHMYGOSSIP — Joel Dommett is hoping to host a second series of ‘Survivor’.
The 38-year-old TV star is best known for presenting ‘The Masked Singer’, and also hosts the rebooted BBC programme, which sees 18 people fight for survival on a remote desert island to win £100,000.
Despite suffering from poor ratings, Joel has revealed he is keen to present another series and has promised changes would be made if the show came back.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: “Fingers crossed … there’s a lot of stuff that we would do slightly differently.
“Like with every first series, it’s hard, so I think a second series would be amazing.
“Everyone seems to really love it, so I’m excited that – hopefully – [we get to] do another one.”
The first episode of the rebooted ‘Survival’, which launched in October 2023, only received 2.6 million viewers, despite airing at the prime-time slot of 8:25pm on a Saturday after ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
‘Survivor’s second episode was then replaced by David Attenborough’s ‘Planet Earth III’, with the Joel Dommett-hosted show only securing 2.3 million viewers, which was less than a repeat of the ‘Antiques Roadshow’ on BBC Two.
This comes after a TV insider reportedly insisted that the BBC were not keen on renewing the programme for another series, due to its poor viewership.
The source allegedly told the Daily Mail newspaper: “It has come as a huge surprise that Survivor is coming back.
“It is viewed by many within the Beeb as being a very expensive flop and the general view was that it should – and would – be canned.
“To spend that amount of money on a programme that is watched by such few people surely is a silly way to spend public money.”

John Cena admits some directors expect more from him after WWE experience

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cena has admitted some film directors expect more from him thanks to his WWE background.
The ‘Argylle’ actor – who plays a character called Wyatt in director Matthew Vaughn’s new spy comedy – insisted his experience in professional wrestling can help but it doesn’t mean he has all the skills needed for action scenes on set.
Appearing on the BBC’s ‘The One Show’ in the UK, he said: “I’m well disciplined in the world of WWE stunts and lifting people up, as you see in the trailer for ‘Argylle’.
“But a lot of directors when they cast me would just assume I have a matrix knowledge of everything… knowing Kung Fu.
“One moment with one director when they looked at fight choreography and they said, ‘No that’s not it just do some of that Krav Maga.’
“Its like ‘OK, no problem, I just need to go home for 10 years, master that and come back!’ ”
Vaughn jokingly described Cena as the “muscle for Henry Cavill” in the film, and the 46-year-old actor turned wrestler quipped that the character was “playing to his strengths”.
He added: “You get to see me lift Dua Lip off a motorcycle which is great!
“I’m kinda like the best friend, jack of all trades, master of none – but in a world within a world within a word.
“And that’s what’s great about ‘Argyle’, is you see the trailer is action packed, leaves you wanting more.
“There’s so many twists and turns in the actual movie – that we can’t talk about – but that’s gonna be the great gift to audiences when they go so ‘Argylle’.
“It’s one of those movies where you’ll be on the edge of your seat, because of the world and the action, but you also wanna try and figure it out, which is another added bonus.”

Christopher Nolan thinks Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer transformation had echoes of Heath Ledger

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan has compared Cillian Murphy’s ‘Oppenheimer’ transformation to Heath Ledger in ‘The Dark Knight’.
The 53-ear-old filmmaker – whose film starring Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer has earned 13 nominations for this year’s Academy Awards – recalled seeing him in character for the first time, and he couldn’t help but think of the late actor’s turn as The Joker in his 2008 Batman movie.
He told Variety: “It was really in the hair and makeup tests, which we shoot on Imax and in black-and-white.
“You start to see the actor bringing an icon to life, putting the hat on, the cigarette in the corner of his mouth. You’re starting to see how he moves. It’s a thrilling moment.
“It is on every film. Seeing Cillian put this iconography together, it reminded me of my hair and makeup tests with Heath Ledger for the Joker.”
‘Oppenheimer’ is leading the way for the Oscars, with nominations for best picture, best actor in a leading role (Murphy), best actor in a supporting role (Robert Downey Jr), best actress in a supporting role (Emily Blunt) and best director for Nolan himself.
The film is also in the running for best cinematography, best adapted screenplay, best original score and best makeup and hairstyling, plus nods for costume design, editing, sound and production design.
Meanwhile, Murphy told the outlet that he thinks the real Oppenheimer would be “quite confused, in a pleased way”, by the whole project.
He pondered: “I think he’d be happy that if nothing else, maybe people will think about nuclear weapons in a more focused way than we tend to because, you know, half the population on the planet lives in a country that has nuclear weapons and we just don’t think about it because there are more pertinent and pressing things going on in our lives.
“But this is there. It’s like the sword of Damocles hanging over all of us all the time.
“Perhaps he might be pleased because that was kind of his life’s mission, was to be candid about the state that the world is in.”

Wedding Crashers 2 was ‘close’ and Isla Fisher is hoping it happens one day

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Wedding Crashers 2’ has been “pretty close” to happening with Isla Fisher still hoping for a sequel.
The 47-year-old actress – who starred alongside Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams in the influential 2005 comedy – admitted discussions have happened regarded a potential follow-up, and she’d love to see Wilson and Vaughn back John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey.
She told E! News: “There have been conversations where we were pretty close. “Vince and Owen have such an incredible chemistry and you just feel it from the screen.
“It’s palpable and it’s its own hilarious beast, so I want to see them on camera again doing what they do best.”
Meanwhile, she would be delighted to reprise her own role as obsessive girlfriend Gloria, particularly given the joy she had playing her in the first place.
She added: “She’s such a fun character. It’s also so rare, as a woman, to be in a comedy where you get to make jokes and not just be the straight man.”
She insisted she’s been keeping tabs on her castmates from the original movie, and some of them are “still keen” to reunite for another movie.
She teased: “Fingers crossed we make another one. It’d be such a fun way to all get back together.”
A decade ago, director David Dobkin admitted he and Wilson “did come up with a great take”, but he insisted the original came out at a time when “people weren’t doing a lot of sequels”.
There have been more updates over the years, with Will Ferrell telling E! News that a follow-up was “being written”.
The next year, Wilson told Collider: “Yeah, there is a script and David Dobkin – who directed the first one – has been working on it, and we’ve been talking about it.
“It’s been nice talking to Vince and it’s one of these movies that really seemed to connect with people.
“If we can come up with something we think could be great, then I’m sure we’ll do it.”
Last year, he confirmed it was still a possibility as he referred the long gap between 1980s classic ‘Top Gun’ and its eventual 2022 seqeuel.
He told E!: “‘Top Gun’, when did they do the original? That turned out great. So, you never know.”

Sir Ridley Scott technique made Gladiator 2 feel like theatre

OHMYGOSSIP — Fred Hechinger found working on ‘Gladiator 2’ like being in theatre.
The actor – who has appeared in the likes of ‘The Woman in the Window’, ‘White Lotus’ and Netflix’s ‘Fear Street Trilogy’ – is set to play Emperor Geta in Sir Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel, and he has opened up on the director’s unique process by using multiple cameras at once to get all kinds of angles and perspectives for a scene.
He told Collider: “It’s amazing. I mean, the eight cameras reminds me of theater because you have an entire environment that’s created in camera.
“But I have to say, what’s amazing, too, is when something feels alive it feels alive in unique but connective ways.
“So, when something’s really special, what we’re doing here, when you start to find a rhythm, again, if I’m lucky, I feel connected to that feeling of when I started doing plays.
“I’ve never been able to put a name to whatever that weird feeling is, but you just get a sense of it.”
He pointed to the way the cast form a bond which then feeds into the story being told on stage or set.
He added: “There’s something that you can’t put your finger on that’s within the moment, of the moment, in the moment. We spend all this time hanging out, and first off, you make real friends, which is an amazing part.
“And then you also, within the scenes, you find something that you cannot name. And all the intensity of that set breeds that, and all the kind of gentleness of this one breeds that.
“I always find that the process becomes the product, and so, however it’s designed is built to bring out and nurture and kind of speak to that story that it’s trying to tell.”

Disgraced reality star Stephen Bear speaks out after prison release: ‘I’ve lost eveything!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Bear realised he had “lost everything ” after being released from prison.
The 34-year-old reality star was jailed in March 2023 after he was found guilty of sharing a private video of him having sex with his ex-girlfriend Georgia Harrison without consent but was released early last week after serving half of his 21-month sentence and ended up in tears as he came to terms with what he had done.
He told The Daily Mirror: “I’ve come out of prison and I was very overwhelmed, it was a lot. I’ve had to adjust again to real life. That was the biggest shock, the biggest shock is, all I remembered is my old life.
“I went to prison and I was frozen in that mindset of my old life.
“You come out and you realise ‘Oh, I’ve lost everything’, everything is gone, everything you can imagine is gone.
“It’s taken me a couple of days. I came home and the first night, I was crying, when I was in bed, I was crying.”
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star once had a reported net worth of £1 million but has “embraced” the idea of being without money after moving back home with his parents as he recalled having to be “mentally strong” to survive behind bars.
He said: “I was thinking of all the nice things that I had, it was like ‘Wow, man I had it so good!’, I cried myself to sleep.
“There was times when it was hard. You’ve got to be very mentally strong when you’re away in those places.”
In July, Bear was ordered to pay £207,900 to Harrison, which was the highest-ever sum awarded in an image abuse case.
He was found guilty of voyeurism, and two counts of disclosing private, sexual photographs and films.
Responding to the record damages, Hanna Basha from Payne Hicks Beach law firm said: “This has been a difficult, complicated and emotional case.
“I am pleased that we were able to support Georgia, and I hope her strength in pursuing this highlights to other victims that there is help and support available for them and that the courts take these matters very seriously.”
At the time, ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star Georgia – who is yet to comment publicly on her ex-boyfriend’s release from prison – said she had been through “absolute hell”.
In a statement released via Essex Police, she said: “Bear’s behaviour was completely unacceptable and those who choose to commit such crimes should and will be prosecuted.
“I hope me taking a stand gives other men and women who have fallen victim to revenge porn the courage to seek justice and most importantly show them that they have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
“I have felt ashamed, hurt, violated, even broken at times but today I stand here feeling empowered, grateful and a huge sense of unity with all of those who have reached out to support me throughout this ordeal.”

Tony Blackburn was visited by a ghost as a teen

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Blackburn was left shocked after he saw a ghost above his bed.
The 80-year-old radio legend, who had hosted a show on BBC Radio London, revealed that he had a paranormal experience as a teenager that left him gob-smacked.
In an interview with the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “When I was about 17 years old, I lived in Poole in Dorset. I was in bed and saw this thing hovering about my bed, like a face.
“I didn’t recognise it, but I looked at it and it gradually faded. I thought it was weird, and the following dat it happened as well – the same thing!
“It’s never happened since but it was hovering about two feet in front of me. I though, ‘That’s a bit scary’, so the following day I left the door open. It didn’t go out, it just faded.”
Tony had recently began to wind down his radio career, with him retiring from BBC Radio London and presenting fewer shows on BBC Radio 2 due to a shock battle with life-threatening sepsis, pneumonia, and blood poisoning in April last year.
The first ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner had also been honoured with an OBE for his outstanding work in the industry, which he admitted “is the icing on a very lovely cake”.
In a statement, he said: “Receiving this honour is truly unexpected and very humbling. When I first replied to a New Musical Express advert looking for DJs, back in 1964, I never imagined that nearly 60 years later, I would still be doing something I love so much.
“To still be in a radio studio a few times a week, being welcomed in to so many listeners’ homes, sharing mine and their memories, and playing the music I love is simply wonderful.
“To be recognised for my work in broadcasting in this way is testament to all those I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years, on both the BBC and in commercial radio. It really is the best job and to receive this award is the icing on a very lovely cake.”

Tamsin Greig blasts ‘whitewashing’ of classic TV shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Tamsin Greig has blasted TV bosses for “whitewashing history”.
The 57-year-old actress starred in the Channel 4 sitcom ‘Friday Night Dinner’, in which she, Paul Ritter, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal play a Jewish family living in suburbia, despite the fact none of the actors not following the faith.
Reflecting on the programme, Tamsin admitted she believed ‘Friday Night Dinner’ could not be made as it was today, due to the “problematic whitewashing”.
Speaking to the ‘Radio Times’ podcast, she said: “I was very nervous when I was cast in’ Friday Night Dinner’.”
I went to Robert Popper, who wrote it, and is a Jewish man, and said, ‘I have Jewish ancestors but I don’t call myself Jewish.’
“He said, ‘I’m not worried’ – that was in 2009.
“If he was making that show now, of course, we would have very different conversations.
“I think it’s about being alive to the conversations that are happening now, and to always be asking ourselves, ‘Is this right for now?’
“I think whitewashing history is problematic. Because it’s not being honest about who we’ve been.”
Tamsin emphasised that casting attitudes need to be “discerning” when it comes to choosing actors for certain kinds of TV and movies.
She said: “It’s about being very discerning about each person that is being depicted and having a conversation, not only about who is best to play the role but who is best at this time.”
The actress concluded that entertainment needed to be more transparent with audiences regarding their portrayal of certain characters and groups.
She explained: “There is a sense of us not being able to grow up into new perspectives. I’m not allowing myself to say, ‘That did happen. What am I going to do about it?’
“It’s the process of growing up into that level of self-understanding and forgiveness and transformation. It is delicate and complicated and needs more air than we often allow it.”
