Sir David Jason confesses he hasn’t watched Nicholas Lyndhurst in ‘Frasier’ reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason hasn’t watched Nicholas Lyndhurst in the ‘Frasier’ reboot.
The 83-year-old actor played Del Boy alongside Nicholas’ Rodney in ‘Only Fools and Horses’ from 1981 to 2003, but has admitted he still hasn’t tuned in to see his old co-star, 62, in the return of sitcom‘Frasier’, which made its comeback in October 2023 on Paramount+.
When asked by The Times about his thoughts on Nicholas’ performance as boozy university professor Alan Cornwall on the series, Sir David said: “Winter evenings have us hunkering down in front of the fire and watching television.”
“I haven’t seen the reboot of ‘Frasier’ yet with Nick Lyndhurst, my old co-star from ‘Only Fools and Horses’, but I’m sure he will have done a great job.”
Sir David also told The Times it was a “privilege” to have starred in ‘Only Fools’ as he knows how much it means to TV viewers, and commented on his status as a “national treasure”.
He added: “Being part of Only Fools and Horses is a privilege. I know how much it has meant to so many people.
“I hope I never take the title ‘national treasure’ too seriously – I call myself the ‘leg end’, but it’s humbling that people see me that way.”
The ‘Frasier’ reboot – itself a spin-off from ‘Cheers’ – has been hugely anticipated by fans of the original show.
It has seen the return of Kelsey Grammer, 68, as the titular radio psychiatrist, but actor David Hyde Pierce, 64, who played his brother Niles Crane in the show, turned down the chance to star in the reboot.
He told the Los Angeles Times: “I never really wanted to go back.
“It’s not like I said, ‘Oh, I don’t ever want to do that again.’ I loved every moment. It was that I wanted to do other things.”

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ director hails music icon’s fame: ‘After Jesus, he’s probably the most recognisable face on the planet!’

OHMYGOSSIP — The director of ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ claims the reggae icon “is the most recognisable face on the planet” after Jesus.
Reinaldo Marcus Green helmed the upcoming biopic about ‘No Woman, No Cry’ singer Marley and he insists his influence across the globe and his Rastafarian image rivals that of Christ.
Speaking to Empire magazine, he said: “After Jesus, he’s probably the most recognisable face on the planet!
“Bob is uniquely universal. But I still felt like I didn’t really know him, and that few people really do.”
‘Bob Marley: One Love’ , which will be released in February, stars ‘Barbie’ actor Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob, and documents the singer’s rise to fame up until his death from cancer in 1981 aged 36.
Kingsley’s motivation for taking on the role is that people “don’t understand” who Marley really was as a person, despite knowing his songs and him being a ubiquitous person in pop culture.
In a joint interview with the film’s director, Kingsley, 37, said: “The idea of Bob that exists in university campus dorms and in general throughout the West – it’s an image based on tiny soundbites. Soundbites that a lot of people don’t really understand.”
James Norton plays Bob’s manager Chris Blackwell in the movie and agrees with his co-star’s assessment of Bob’s life.
He said: “When you talk about Bob Marley, the legend has become much bigger than the man.”
Filmmaker Reinaldo, 42, wanted to capture the complexities of the man behind the music in the biopic, and give audiences a better understanding of the political situation in Jamaica that defined Bob’s life and lyrics.
The director said: “What was happening in Jamaica at that time – it was craziness.
“There were military tanks everywhere and gang violence erupting in the streets. But the average person (who listens to Bob Marley) doesn’t understand that political context.
“We wanted to try to drop people in and show them how Bob was really at the centre of it all. He had to bring together that deeply divided nation.”

Jennifer Lopez bringing Bob the Builder to big screen

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lopez is bringing Bob the Builder to the big screen.
The singer and actress, 54, has been producing a film adaptation of the British animated construction worker with toymaker Mattel, which owns the brand, seeking to capitalise on the box office success of the ‘Barbie’ film by putting more of its mascots into cinemas.
Bob – whose catchphrase is “Can we fix it?” – will be seen in the movie going to Puerto Rico for a huge construction job, according to producers, and will be voiced by the ‘In the Heights’ star Anthony Ramos, 32.
The American actor of Puerto Rican descent told The Times the adaptation would carry an “important message” and that aspects of the film were inspired by his own life.
He added: “For years, Bob the Builder’s characters have inspired young people around the world.
“A movie about friends working together, a celebration of a beautiful home they share, and how love can help to conquer any obstacle in your way.”
The film is being billed as a project that will address issues facing residents in Puerto Rico and dig “deeper” into “what it means to build”.
Jennifer will produce the film with her company Nuyorican Productions.
A director is yet to be attached to the project, but the script will be written by Felipe Vargas, a Colombian filmmaker who recently made a short film about a shadowy monster stalking an orphanage.
Jennifer’s producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas said: “The show’s ability to promote positive thinking, problem-solving and empowerment with a completely original story set in Puerto Rico puts a new spin on a beloved brand. “We can’t wait for new and existing fans to connect with these amazing characters.”
‘Bob the Builder’ was created by Keith Chapman and began in 1999,with the character voiced by ‘Men Behaving Badly’ actor Neil Morrissey, 61, and also featuring his group of construction vehicles, including Scoop, Muck, Dizzy, Roley and Lofty.
The show’s theme song ‘Can We Fix It?’ became a chart hit and was the UK Christmas No 1 in 2000, and US toy titan Mattel bought the company that owned Bob the Builder in 2011 for $680 million.

Nicole Kidman called Martin Scorsese when she learned she was getting American Film Institute Life Achievement Award

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman called Martin Scorsese after she was told she was getting the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award.
‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ actress, 56, will receive the honour in April, which has previously been bestowed on movie icons including Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda and Martin.
Nicole is the first Australian to be recognised by the awards, and told Vogue Australia about being stunned by the news she was going to be its latest recipient: “It’s made me look back and go, wow, I have worked with the greatest directors in the world! How did that happen?”
She added about ‘Goodfellas’ director Martin: “I’d still love to work with Marty. “I called him, and I was like, ‘Marty!’ “And he’s still going strong at 81!”
Despite her desire to work with the ‘Taxi Driver’ filmmaker, Nicole has recently focused on collaborating with women directors.
The string of collaborations came after a conversation at the Cannes Film Festival she had in 2017 with Meryl Streep, 74, leading to Nicole pledging to work with a female director every 18 months.
She now counts Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, Andrea Arnold, Karyn Kusama and Kim Gehrig as recent collaborators on what she calls her “adventures” on screen.
Nicole added: “I’ve been on these quite intense journeys with these women recently, which has been fantastic.
“And I feel very safe with them. I have a very close relationship with my sister and my daughters and my nieces and my mother and my aunts.
“I’m very, very comfortable with sharing everything with them and hearing the way they see things and their perspective… it’s a very, very powerful place of protection for me with women.”

Helen Skelton had to eat a guinea pig in Peru

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton was forced to eat a guinea pig after a mix-up in Peru.
The former ‘Blue Peter’ host ended up snacking on a rodent as she kayaked across the River Amazon for Sport Relief in 2011 after her love for the creatures got lost in translation.
Helen told the ‘Spooning with Mark Wogan’ podcast: “I went to Peru and did a lot of filming with some wonderful charities who were educating children who worked on rubbish dumps, who basically went out every day, scavenging for bits, take them back, clean them, sell them.
“And so the charity were trying to get them into schools and they were showing us their wonderful work and as part of showing us what happened they took us out for lunch.”
The 40-year-old star continued: “We were in the middle of nowhere, and there was this big garden with all these hutches showing me their guinea pigs.
“Obviously there’s a language and cultural barrier, but I was enthusiastic because they were proud, and I was being respectful – I thought they were just showing me their guinea pigs.”
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star then revealed she had chosen the “cute” guinea pig to be unknowingly “spatchcocked and deep-fried”.
She said: “I didn’t realise I was picking my lunch, so the one that I said was cute was then spatchcocked and deep-fried.
“They were so proud because it’s a delicacy, and they presented it to me, it still had claws and served with coleslaw.
“The translator was telling me that this was really, really important to them to eat it. I was like, ‘OK, this is just one of those things that I will take with me to my grave.’
“I can’t say that’s wrong, that’s their world.”

‘We’re only human’: Tim Campbell won’t stop romance blossoming on The Apprentice

OHMYGOSSIP — Tim Campbell will not be stopping romances between candidates on ‘The Apprentice’.
The 46-year-old businessman returns alongside Karren Brady as an aide to Lord Sugar on the new series of the BBC show – which begins on February 1 – and has no concerns if those vying for entrepreneur’s investment find love on the programme.
Tim – who won the first series of ‘The Apprentice’ in 2005 – is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “We’re not following them 24 hours a day, or into the toilet like some reality shows have done.
“I just care that candidates focus on the task, as long as it doesn’t distract from how they perform and what they’re trying to do. But the reality is that we’re only human.”
Campbell added: “The only romance Lord Sugar refers to is with his beautiful wife, Lady Ann – so thankfully that’s the only one we really have to focus on.”
Lord Sugar is preparing to host an 18th series of the business show and is “damn sure” that he will reach the round number of 20 – even though the BBC haven’t given the milestone series the green light as of yet.
The 76-year-old businessman said: “Well, obviously we’re going to do that. No question.
“But bear in mind, it’s not my call, it’s the BBC’s call.
“They’re the ones that will decide whether the programme has got longevity beyond 20 series.
“I have a contract to do series 19, I don’t have a contract to do series 20 yet, but I’m pretty damn sure that I’ll ask them to do it and we’ll do it.
“But it’s really up to them. It’s up to their scheduling and all that type of thing.”

The Traitors executive producer Mike Cotton thinks show is successful because anyone can play

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Traitors’ executive producer Mike Cotton thinks the show is successful as “anyone can play” the game.
The second series of the hit BBC reality show concludes on Friday (26.01.24) night and Cotton thinks that the fact that those from all walks of life can be Faithful or Traitors is key to the programme’s appeal.
Mike told the Metro newspaper: “Why has it struck a chord? It feels different from other reality shows.
“There had been a glut of talent contests, or dating shows, or games that people could win only if they were the strongest, or the most intelligent, or the most beautiful.
“What’s fascinating about ‘The Traitors’ is that anyone can play it. You can be from any walk of life. You can be any age – our cast goes from 21 up to 70.”
Cotton explained that show bosses deliberately seek out ordinary people to play the game of treachery in the Scottish Highlands castle.
He said: “When we’re looking for people to apply – because we’re looking now for season three – we don’t want people to come on the show because they think it’s going to make them famous.
“We’re actively looking for people who have passion for playing the game who can bring something from their own lives to it, whether that’s a skillset from a past job or a hobby, or some sort of life experience they’ve had.”
Claudia Winkleman has proved to be a successful host and Cotton thinks that she “encapsulates” the spirit of the show.
He explained: “She treads this really fun line. She can be quite brutal at times, but she’s also quite mothering.
“I always like to think of the show as a group of really nice people playing a brutal game, and Claudia encapsulates that. She’s a very nice person but a puppet master of this brutal game.”

Record three golden buzzer moments on first day of Britain’s Got Talent auditions

OHMYGOSSIP — A record-breaking three golden buzzers were pressed on the first day of auditions for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli all opted to send acts straight through to the semi-finals of the show on the opening day of try-outs for the ITV programme on Wednesday (24.01.24).
Confirming the news on her Heart Breakfast radio show, Amanda, 52, said: “Three golden buzzers were pressed yesterday. We’ve only just started, it was the first session! You have to go with your gut.
“Never in the history of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ since golden buzzers have been invented has that happened. It was an amazing afternoon.”
Amanda decided to press the golden buzzer for a singer and is convinced that the act has what it takes to win the show and a slot on the bill at the Royal Variety Performance.
She said: “I don’t think anyone’s going to beat the person I’ve pressed the buzzer for.”
Simon decided to put dance act Cyberagent through to the semi-finals and was impressed by the “original” performers.
The 64-year-old mogul said: “It was really, really so good. It did feel original.”
Meanwhile, Bruno was left close to tears by the dancer he selected and felt a connection to the performance given his background in the profession.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge, 68, said: “People don’t understand how hard it is to succeed as a dancer, you do it for nothing, you do it for love. I felt the love.”
‘Britain’s Got Talent’ is due to return to the screen in the Spring on ITV1 and will be available to stream on ITVX.

Jeremy Clarkson ran out of ideas for The Grand Tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson quit ‘The Grand Tour’ because he had run out of ideas for the show.
The 63-year-old presenter and his co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May have filmed the final two episodes of the Amazon Prime car series and Clarkson admits that it was becoming increasingly difficult to come up with new automotive adventures for the trio.
He told The Times newspaper: “I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”
Clarkson added that the physical demands of the show had become challenging to cope with as he is “unfit and fat and old”.
The former ‘Top Gear’ host quipped: “If you’re Bear Grylls you go to a hotel – there aren’t any hotels in the Sahara desert.”
May has suggested that the chemistry between the presenting trio – who began working together on the BBC’s ‘Top Gear’ in 2003 – was “fuelled by mutual loathing” but Clarkson disagrees with the assessment.
He said: “We’ve spent more time in each other’s company than our families’ over the last 25 years so I don’t think it would have lasted as long as it did if we’d hated each other as much as James likes to think.”
Clarkson believes that the rise of electric cars means that ‘The Grand Tour’ is ending at the right time.
He explained: “James May thinks there’s never been a more interesting time for how we move around and he’s probably right, but I don’t think it’s very interesting television.
“An electric car is no different from a chest freezer or a microwave oven. There’s no glamour or excitement. This week on Top Chest Freezer! I think it suits the written media more.”

Curtis Pritchard turned down Love Island: All Stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Curtis Pritchard rejected the chance to appear on ‘Love Island: All Stars’.
The 27-year-old star featured on the popular ITV reality series in 2019, where he coupled up with Maura Higgins, but turned down the chance to join other former islanders in South Africa in the show that is currently airing.
Curtis told OK! magazine: “There was an opportunity to but no, I thought ‘maybe not this time’.”
The dancer explained that he hasn’t actually watched any of the series but is planning to catch up as he has heard good things about the show.
Curtis – who also made an appearance on the spin-off series ‘Love Island Games’ said: “I need to catch up on it.
“To be fair, I’ve heard there’s a lot going down. Obviously, it’s All Stars and everybody’s been thrown back in at the deep end of the game. It’s a weird one though.
“I wonder if any of the same couples are gonna get back together. So I do need to catch up, and I’ve heard it’s been really good so far.”
Curtis and his brother AJ Pritchard had a widely panned stint in the soap opera ‘Hollyoaks’ as siblings Marco and Jacob in 2021 but the star revealed that he was determined to learn from the experience and had taken acting lessons in the hope of getting another TV part.
He told the Daily Star: “Going on ‘Hollyoaks’ was such a great thing because I learned so much from it. It taught me a lot of acting. I fell in love with acting. It gave me a buzz for acting.
“I am 100 per cent keen to do more acting. 1000 per cent! I have been having acting lessons. From that performance on ‘Hollyoaks’ to now, I’m like a different person.”

City of God getting cinema re-release to mark movie’s 21st anniversary

OHMYGOSSIP — Fernando Meirelles’ epic crime drama ‘City of God’ is returning to cinemas to mark the movie’s 21st anniversary.
Over two decades on from its original release, this visually stunning and gripping reflection of life on the mean streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is back on the big screen – courtesy of Paris-based distributor The Festival Agency partnering with sales company Wild Bunch – for a new generation to experience.
The film is an adaptation of Paulo Lins’ 1997 novel of the same name – which is based on real events – that weaves together the compelling stories of a group of kids growing up in the poverty-stricken favelas of Rio from the 1960s to the 1980s.
Narrator Rocket – played by Alexandre Rodrigues – tries to avoid being drawn into the spiral of violence and crime to become a photographer and win over the beautiful Angélica (Alicia Braga), whilst gun-toting L’il Zé (Leandro Firmino) becomes the brutal crime boss of the city, wiping out rival gangs without remorse. When crack shot Knockout Ned (singer-and-actor Seu Jorge) is dragged into the fray, the vicious turf war between the last two remaining gangs reaches boiling point.
The cast was comprised mostly of non-actors discovered in Rio’s favelas for authenticity and ‘City of God’ is widely considered by critics and audiences to be one of the greatest films of all time, ranking number 25 on IMDB’s Top 250 List, whilst it has a rating of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Upon its release, Meirelles’ film won numerous awards and accolades and received four Academy Award nominations – Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Director.
Following ‘City of God’, Meirelles, 68, went on to direct ‘The Constant Gardener’ – which earned Rachel Weisz the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance – ‘Blindness’, the film adaptation of Nobel prize-winner José Saramago’s 1995 novel of the same name, and 2019’s ‘The Two Popes’ starring Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce.
Revealing why he was inspired to turn Lins’ book into a film, Meirelles – who worked with Katia Lund on the project – said: “Paulo Lins was raised in City of God. He was doing research for an anthropological work about dealers in the favelas and his boss asked him to write a novel about it. He took eight years writing it. When the book was published, it was a bestseller in Brazil because it was very shocking for us. Nobody knew exactly what happened inside the favelas and this was a book that was telling the story from the inside.”
Meirelles used the film’s success as a platform to focus both Brazil and the rest of the world’s attention on the problems of Rio’s favelas in the hope to stir political activism for their potential emancipation. Brazil’s current President, Luiz Inacio ‘Lula’ da Silva, changed his policies of public security on account of the film, yet the violence and power of drug dealers controlling the favelas unfortunately remains today.
To celebrate the UK and international re-release of ‘City of God’ in cinemas a limited-edition City of God Capsule skate collection has been created, a unique collaboration between renowned skate brand Clown Skateboards and London-based creative agency AllCity in partnership with In Action for Charitable Community Initiatives in Brazil.
The collection is available from Allcityx.com and at select skate stores from February 2024.

Middle East – 22 February 2024
UK – 23 February 2024

The Traitors winner announced in shock twist

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Clarke has won ‘The Traitors’.
The 23-year-old British Army Corporal had fought off competition from 20 other contestants all vying to win up to £100,000 in the famous castle as part of the intense psychological game and when co-star Mollie Pearce wrongly thought that he was a Faithful in the hopes of the pair of them splitting the cash, he revealed that he had been a Traitor all along, meaning that he walked away with all the prize money.
Immediately after realising her error in keeping him in the game, she stormed off set yelling; “F***, f***!”, regretting her decision to banish Jaz Singh, 30, when he turned out to have been a Faithful.
The 21-year-old model broke down in tears as she admitted she had “really, really trusted” Harry but admitted that her co-star had played a “brilliant game.”
Harry was congratulated by host Claudia Winkleman as he vowed to gain Mollie’s trust back somehow.
He said: “My legs are shaking, oh my, oh my God! I just won £95,000! She’s like crying and stuff. Mollie is the reason that I’m here and I need to gain her trust back. I don’t know if that’s ever gonna be possible but I’m gonna try my hardest, I promise you that!”
Harry toasted his victory with the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge over a glass of champagne and used his final confessional on the series to assure viewers that despite his status as a Traitor, he is in fact a “good person” who was motivated by his family.
“My family knows I’m a good guy so to everyone else, if you don’t think I’m a good guy, I promise you I am! I came here for my family and my loved ones. They are my motivation and the reason I go in live. I can’t wait to ring them to tell them. I feel like I can breathe, I’m just me again.
“I’m Harry again.”

‘It’s worthwhile’: Daisy Ridley has high expectations for Star Wars return

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley says her return to ‘Star Wars’ is “worthwhile”.
The 31-year-old actress will reprise her role as Rey in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s movie ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ and explained that she decided to join the project for the quality of the story rather than the chance to work with the famous franchise’s first female director.
Asked how Sharmeen would influence the sci-fi series, Daisy told Variety: “The short answer is I don’t know. I’m excited to do the job, but not because Sharmeen is a woman.
“No spoilers, but she gave me a rundown of the entire story. If it weren’t amazing, I would have been like, ‘OK, call me in five years.’ But it’s worthwhile.”
Daisy also explained that she isn’t concerned about making a ‘Star Wars’ movie without her co-stars from the sequel trilogy – including John Boyega and Adam Driver – as she has developed as an actor in the intervening years.
The ‘Sometimes I Think About Dying’ star said: “I don’t know what is what or who is who (in the new movie). So much has happened for me (since the Skywalker saga). I feel like a grown-up now.
“When I first started, I was, like, 20. I was the youngest on set. It took me the first two ‘Star Wars’ films to feel worthy of being there. Now I’m in my 30s. The whole thing feels quite different. I’ve been able to work with other filmmakers, and hopefully, I’ve got better as a performer.”
Daisy recently confirmed that the picture – slated for release in May 2026 – would be taking the franchise’s story “in a bit of a different direction”.
She told AlloCine: “I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the ‘Star Wars’ world.
“It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”

Netflix cancels release of Halle Berry movie The Mothership

OHMYGOSSIP — Netflix has scrapped the release of Halle Berry’s sci-fi film ‘The Mothership’.
The movie had finished filming back in 2021 but was unable to be completed after a number of delays in post-production, leading the streaming giant to axe the picture altogether.
According to The InSneider, the film still required plenty of reshoots and one of the children in the flick had aged significantly since filming had first wrapped.
‘The Mothership’ is the latest Hollywood film not to be released even though filming had finished after Warner Bros. axed three movies – ‘Coyote vs. Acme’, ‘Scoob! Holiday Haunt’ and the DC adventure ‘Batgirl’ – for financial reasons in recent years.
The plot follows Sara Morse (Berry) and takes place a year after her husband’s mysterious disappearance from their rural farm.
When Sara and her children find an extraterrestrial object underneath their home, they hope that it will lead them to the truth about his disappearance.
Halle was joined in the cast by Molly Parker and Omari Hardwick while Oscar-nominated screenwriter Matthew Charman had been due to direct the feature.
The 57-year-old actress signed a multi-picture deal with Netflix in 2021 following the success of her sports drama ‘Bruised’, which she both directed and starred in. She is set to continue working with the streamer on action film ‘The Union’.
In a statement at the time, the ‘Die Another Day’ actress said: “My directorial debut, ‘Bruised’, was a labour of love and I knew that Scott [Stuber] and Ted [Sarandos] [CEOs of Netflix] would treat it with great care.
“The Netflix team has not only been collaborative and creative, but extremely passionate and a delight to work with. I am beyond grateful for the partnership and look forward to telling more stories together.”
