Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara join Despicable Me 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Ferrell and Sofia Vergara have joined the cast of ‘Despicable Me 4’.
The film’s new stars were revealed in a trailer for the sequel – which comes seven years after the third movie’s release – with Ferrell voicing Gru’s new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal and Vergara voicing his his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina.
There are also new characters voiced by ‘Bullet Train’ actress Joey King, TV host Stephen Colbert and ‘Saturday Night Live’ regular Chloe Fineman.
In the film, Gru [Steve Carrell] and Lucy [Kristen Wiig] welcome a new family member – a son named Gru Jr. who is intent on tormenting his dad – but the family faces upheaval as they must go on the run.
It’s the fourth ‘Despicable Me’ movie in the franchise which was expanded with two Minions movies – 2015’s ‘Minions ‘ and ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ which was a huge box office success when it was released in 2022.
‘Despicable Me 4’ hits theatres on July 3.
Steve Carell has played loveable supervillain Gru throughout the series and he previously admitted he loves working on the films because they are “not condescending to children”.
Speaking at CinemaCon, Steve said: “They’re really good movies. They’re not condescending to children either, and that’s one of the reasons I signed on to do these.
“When I read the first script, and I saw all the artwork, I was like, there’s a little danger here, and kids love that – not too much, but just enough to be exciting and new and different, that had a different tone to it.”
‘The Office’ actor also revealed the origin of Gru’s voice and says he adopted it because it made his children laugh.
Steve explained: “The reason I actually do that voice is because it’s the voice that made my kids laugh. When I went in before I did my first taping. I said, ‘Hey, guys, [Gru voice] what do you think of this?’ And they’re like, ‘That’s the one, just do that.'”

Jamie Dornan ‘hid’ from the world when he faced ‘ridicule’ for Fifty Shades of Grey

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan “hid” in the country after reviews for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ came out.
The 41-year-old actor faced “ridicule” for the first time in his career when the first film in the erotic rom-com franchise – which was based on the books by E. L. James – hit screens in 2015, and he decided to keep a low profile and not read anything.
He told Radio 4’s ‘Desert Island Discs’: “I think I hid.
“I am coming off the back of career-altering reviews for ‘The Fall’ to just ridicule, almost.”
The flick’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, 56, and her actor husband, Aaron, 33, let Dornan and his family stay at their country abode.
He continued: “They let us have their place in the country and we sort of hid there for a while and just shut ourselves from the world a bit and then sort of came out the other side.”
However, he couldn’t hide forever, as he had two more films to film in the trilogy, in which he portrayed sadist Christian Grey alongside Dakota Johnson, 34, as Anastasia Steele, the literature student who becomes his lover.
He said: “It [the film] made so much money that two or three were like greenlit overnight. It was a strange thing, because then you are like, there is a bit of ridicule here and I’m now contractually doing two more of them and knowing that there would be more of that damnation to come.”
The trilogy – completed by 2017’s ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and 2018’s ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ – made a whopping $1.32 billion at the box office, the seventh highest-grossing R-rated franchise of all time, despite the negative reviews.
The ‘Tourist’ star’s turn as kink-obsessed billionaire Grey also earned him his first Golden Raspberry award for Worst Actor in 2015.
Slamming his critics, Dornan previously told Radio Times magazine: “I knew there was going to be a lot of hostility about the project because there was a lot of hostility around the books, and a lot of it is literary snobbery. People like to (criticise)… very successful things: if you have something that’s hugely successful and sold as many copies as those books did, while critics didn’t like them.
“Oxbridge-educated critics who think they are the most important people in the world… I’m somebody who seeks out challenges.
“Choosing this for a career and dealing with all the (muck) that comes with it?
“If you can ride through all that, it probably makes you more resilient.
“I don’t really sweat the small stuff much because I’ve had big stuff happen that’s bad.”

Blumhouse to launch horror exhibit at The Shining hotel

OHMYGOSSIP — Blumhouse is launching a horror exhibit at ‘The Shining’ hotel.
The horror movie studio – which is best known for productions including ‘Get Out’ and M3GAN’ – will curate a new exhibit at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, the inspiration for Stephen King’s ‘The Shining’.
Colorado Governor Jarded Polis said in a statement: “Here’s Blumhouse! This iconic Colorado hotel will now have a new element of fun and fright for Coloradans and visitors across the world to enjoy, driving tourism and strengthening our economy.”
Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum added: “The Stanley Hotel is hallowed ground for horror fans and that makes this presence at the Stanley Film Center a natural extension for Blumhouse. Fans are going to get closer than ever before to their favorite films, though they may want to keep their distance with a few of the ‘items’ in our collection.”
Blumhouse will curate the 10,000 foot Stanley Film Center exhibit space, in collaboration with the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media.
King’s ‘The Shining’ tells the story of a struggling writer, who takes on the role of a caretaker at a remote hotel and moves his family there.
Before he wrote the book, King spent a night at The Stanley Hotel and cited it as an inspiration.

I started Messiah and I was like, ‘Woah, I’m only shooting the first movie. Let me just go back to the first one.’ It’s so much to take in, and I think there’s no better hands with better care and love for it than him [Villeneuve].”
‘Dune: Part Two’, starring Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin and Rebecca Ferguson will be released in March and Zendaya can’t wait to see it.

She told The Sun: “It took me a while to get here.
“Especially because I came out of the ‘Love Island’ villa when I was 20 and social media was only just kicking off then.

“I have a skater’s bum now.
“I have been part of the flat bum community all my life, until about four months ago.
“I never thought that I’d be able to build muscle there because genetically the Davies family are just not graced with great bums, but I can see a little peach growing.

Jason Reitman wants the Ghostbusters to stop spooks around the globe

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Reitman wants to make a ‘Ghostbusters’ movie set in another country.
The 46-year-old writer is at the helm of the franchise following 2021’s successful sequel ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ and the impending March release of follow-up film ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ – which he has written with with Gil Kenan directing.
Jason is already looking to the future and he would love the spook stopping squad to tackle the supernatural outside of America.
In an interview with Empire magazine, Jason said: “Now we’re back in the Firehouse, there are infinite ghost stories that could be told. And not just in Manhattan – all over the world.”
Jason’s late father Ivan Reitman – who passed away in 2022 aged 75 – directed the first two ‘Ghostbusters’ movies, released in 1984 and 1989, respectively.
Reflecting on his father’s work, Jason emphasised he is honoured to continue Ivan’s legacy.
He said: “There was a real thrill in telling my father’s stories.
“Even at 75, you saw the 12-year-old in him: [he] sat on the edge of his seat, eyes wide, mouthing along as he anticipated where you might go next.”
The writer revealed he could “almost hear [Ivan] laughing over my shoulder while I was watching a scene. Or telling me, ‘This bit isn’t working.'”
He added: “It was strange. Suddenly the pain of losing him became the joy of getting what felt like another moment with him as I imagined how he’d react.”
The 2024 flick will see the new cast – Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace and Emily Alyn Lind – team up with the original Ghostbusters – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson – as an ominous force threatens to send New York City back to the Ice Age.
Despite getting the crew back together in the 2021 movie ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’, Jason admitted Bill was initially hesitant to reprise the role of Peter Venkman for ‘Frozen Empire’.
He said: “Bill had always been hesitant, and for good reason: his bar for greatness is very high. But he loves Gil [Kenan] and has history with him, so there was no question he’d be here [for ‘Frozen Empire’].”

“All we hope and pray right now is that they are healthy and that unlike Talitha; their entrance to this world is a little less dramatic and not quite as early!
“And finally, and most importantly, I’m grateful to God who is always faithful in whatever season of life I’m in.
“(And for those for whom the whole area of having children can be triggering, I hope this hasn’t been hard to read. As someone who went through the pain of fertility problems many years ago, I know something of how incredibly tough it is.)”
The picture also featured a cake for Simon’s birthday and he shared some of the things he is grateful for as he gets older.
He wrote: “Today is another milestone in life’s rich journey as another birthday arrived.
“Do I wish I was ten years younger? Of course I do. But am I grateful for another to have got this far, to be given the gift of another year of life? Massively.
“These are just a few of the many things I’m grateful for today . . . . .
“Having a loving, caring and beautiful wife and a wonderful son and daughter. Having the chance to love again and be loved again after everything that has happened in my life is an incredible blessing.
“Being a blended family isn’t always easy at times; and we’ve had to come through lots of challenges along the way; but I am so glad that we’ve always held onto each other, whatever season we’re in.
“Work. After a few years in the uncertain world of being a freelancer; to be back at Sky, having regular work and being given the opportunity to present a show like Soccer Saturday has been a wonderful surprise and something I never expected as I hit 50 last year.
“It’s not been easy at times. It has been without doubt the most challenging job I’ve ever done and even with half the season now gone there’s still so much for me to improve on and get better at. I will always give it my absolute all and simply hope that is good enough.
“Anxiety. I’m obviously not thankful for it; but it is still a part of my work life and probably always will be; but I’m thankful that unlike in the past; it hasn’t stopped me doing what I love.”

‘Harry Potter’ show bosses still searching for the right writers

Warner Bros Discovery first confirmed in April 2023 at its Max streaming event a television show based on all seven of J K Rowling’s books about the boy wizard was on the way.
Warner Bros TV Group chairman Channing Dungey, 54, has now said about how it’s being developed: “We’re in conversations with a number of different writers to figure out who’s going to be the person to lead that franchise for us. “The first step for us is figuring out who this showrunner is going to be and once we get that locked down, then we can start having those (casting) conversations.
“The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12.”
Each season of the series, which is set to run for a decade, will be based on one of the ‘Harry Potter’ books in the franchise.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, has said about the upcoming show: “This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.

Michelle Yeoh ‘sorry’ over ‘Barbie’ Oscars snubs

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Yeoh says she’s “sorry” over the ‘Barbie’ Oscars snubs.
The 61-year-old – who won the best actress Oscar in 2023 for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ shared her feelings on the row when she was asked to weigh in on the controversy over the exclusion of ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig, 40, and its star Margot Robbie, 33, from the 2024 Academy Awards best director and actress nominations.
Michelle told the ‘Today’ show: “Joy and disappointment, it seems to go hand in hand.
“There’s not enough nominations to go around. The only take is it’s so competitive out there and there’s no guarantee because you’re not the only voter.
“It’s widespread. Thank god the movie got nominated for best picture!
“You do think: how do you get nominated for best picture but not best director? But it happens.
“And I’m sorry it happened to them because it’s obviously one of the most successful and beloved movies. Look at the box office.”
Greta and Margot’s snubs have been slammed by ‘Barbie’ stars Ryan Gosling, 43, and America Ferrara, 39.
America told Variety that it was “incredibly disappointing” to see the pair’s names missing the best director and best actress categories, adding: “Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it.
“Creating this world, and taking something that didn’t have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list.”
Ryan, who played Ken alongside Margot’s Barbie, added about the row in a statement: “To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.
“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history.
“Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”
Hillary Clinton, 76, was among the other famous faces who weighed in on the snubs by sending Greta and Margot a message on X that said: “While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold, your millions of fans love you. You’re both so much more than Kenough.”
But Oscar-winner Whoopi Goldberg, 68, hit back at the row by saying “snubs” don’t exist, adding on ‘The View’ “everybody doesn’t win” and “you don’t get everything you want to get”.
She said: “There are no snubs. That’s what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize, and it is subjective. Movies are subjective. The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting.”
‘Barbie’ earned a total of eight Oscar nods including best picture, while Greta is a nominee for screenwriting and so is Robbie as one of the film’s producers.

Nicole told Vogue Australia she was sure she would be leaving some kind of legacy “if it doesn’t all get changed by AI”.
She added: “Sorry! So much of it is in the moment.”
Mum-of-four Nicole went on to muse: “What are you leaving behind? “Hopefully, your children, who want to make a difference in the world and have purpose and will fight to keep this planet and people alive.”
The actress had adopted children Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, 61, and has daughters Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13, with her musician spouse of 18 years Keith Urban, 56.

‘Coronation Street’ veteran Bill Roache, 91, ‘has to keep working amid his tax affairs’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ icon Bill Roache has reportedly said he has no choice but to keep working amid his tax affairs.
The 91-year-old actor, who has played Ken Barlow on the ITV soap for more than 63 years, could be facing bankruptcy after he was formally petitioned by HMRC over arrears, and he’s now said to have told friends and family that he still needs his six-figure ‘Corrie’ salary.
A source told The Sun about the dad-of-five: “Corrie have been great and are backing him to the hilt.
“He knows he has a job for life – and the thing is, he needs it now. The tax issue has been rumbling on a long time but it is still quite shocking.
“Obviously, everyone is worried about the impact all of this could have on someone of Bill’s age.
“The risk of being made bankrupt is tough for anyone, but for a 91-year-old it’s a huge worry.”
The insider added about how Bill was keeping his chin up: “But Bill’s doing fine in the circumstances and is in a determined mood.
“He just wants to get it all sorted out and is getting the advice he needs.”
They also said Bill “has told friends he has no plans to stop working and with everything that’s going on he doesn’t exactly have much choice now” – but insisted “at least he’s happy in his job”.
The Sun revealed last week how documents lodged at London’s High Court listed Bill as a “debtor” and HMRC as “petitioner”.
Bill was previously made bankrupt in 1999 and a ‘Coronation Street’ spokeswoman said of his case: “We’re really sorry to hear of Bill’s financial situation.
“Bill has an ongoing contract and remains a much-loved member of the cast.”
HMRC said: “We take a supportive approach to dealing with customers who have tax debts, and do everything we can to help those who engage with us to get out of debt.
“We only petition for bankruptcy as a last resort.”
