Gemma Atkinson would love her own talk show after Steph’s Packed Lunch axe

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson would love her own talk show after learning from Steph McGovern.
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress made many appearances on Channel 4’s ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ before it’s cancellation last year, and the experience has made her want to host her own show in the future.
She told new! magazine: “Yes, i’d love it, absolutely.
“Steph’s show was such a good platform for me, and Steph is wonderful, she’s a mate of mine. She’s such a good presenter.”
The 39-year-old star heaped praise on Steph and ‘Loose Women’ panelist Christine Lampard – who also steps in for Lorraine Kelly on her eponymous daytime show – for the way they put their guests at ease.
She said: “What I’ve noticed about Steph – and Christine Lampard does the same with guests – before they go live on air, they go over and say hello and ask how things are.
“That’s a real nice touch. A lot of people find it nerve-racking going on live television as a guest, so I think for presenters to come over and do that, I like it, and I’ve learned that from Steph.”
Meanwhile, Gemma – who first met her fiance Gorka Marquez, 33, on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2017 – insisted their packed schedules helps keep their relationship fresh, with her man currently travelling back and forth to Madrid for the Spanish version of the dance competition.
She explained: “Part of the reason why it feels so fresh is because we’re not together 24/7.
“In February, we’ll be six years [together], with two babies, and I still get excited to see him, but I think if we were together all the time, I wouldn’t.
“I miss him, but I also think it’s a good thing because it keeps the spark alive.”

Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights props up for auction

OHMYGOSSIP — A collection of props from Peter Kay’s ‘Phoenix Nights’ are due to go up for auction.
The classic comedy ran from 2001 to 2002 with the 50-year-old in multiple roles – including working men’s club owner Brian Potter – and followed the staff and punters at the venue.
Now, a vast selection of props are to be auctioned off from tomorrow (31.01.24).
In the 27 lots, which have attracted plenty of attention from enthusiasts of the programme across the country, fans will get the chance to get their hands on some of the most iconic objects from the show, including a collection of ashtrays and beer mats that boss Brian attempted to sell as mementos of a fire at the club, and a six-foot sign encouraging drivers to “turn right and pull off into paradise”, which is expected to come to around £300 when bidding begins.
A set of the original construction drawings and stage plans for the programme will also go up for action, as well as a beach-themed photo cut-out board from the spin-off show ‘Max and Paddy’s Road To Nowhere’, which is anticipated to reach between £200 and £300.
A variety of posters, metal plaques, banners and decorative ornaments will also be up for grabs.
The items were given to Leyland action house Warren and Wignall after a man discovered the props while he was clearing out a storage unit.
In 2022, the action house sold a sign from ‘Phoenix Nights’ for £3,000.
Although fans have been calling for a return for years, the only comebacks have been 2005’s spoof fitness DVD ‘Max Paddy’s The Power of Two’ and 2015 Comic Relief fundraiser ‘Phoenix Nights Live’.
However, a few years ago Kay suggested there’s still hope for the future.
He teased fans at Manchester’s O2 Apollo: “I loved making ‘Max And Paddy’ – it was one of the best times we ever had filming and we had such a good laugh.
“We actually wrote two Christmas specials, then we never made them, so you never know…”

Megan Barton-Hanson slams Love Island All Stars for ‘playing it safe’

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Barton-Hanson has accused the ‘Love Island All Stars’ cast of “playing it safe”.
The 29-year-old reality star – who first went into the villa in 2018 – returned to the ITV franchise in November for ‘Love Island Games’ in Fiji, and she thinks the current crop of returning romantics are “scared” to upset viewers by trying their luck.
After it was suggested she needed to return and “cause drama” on the show by new! magazine, she laughed: “I’d have to create my own.
“I think they’re playing it safe, going for their exes. They’re all on their best behaviour – they want to be liked.
“They’ve already got a platform, so everyone’s scared to rock the boat and lose followers. But the first time, it’s savage!”
Megan admitted she is “still debating” joining ‘All Stars’, but it has to be under the right circumstances.
She explained: “Yes [I got invited], I’m still debating it, but I’m waiting for a hot guy to come in.
“Or a hot, bisexual girl. Or if Ovie [Soko] was in there, I’d be booking my flight!
“I slid into his DMs before the ‘All Stars’ show to ask if he was going on. He said, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ ”
When it comes to the boys already in the villa, admitted Chris Taylor initially caught her eye until she noticed “his nipple and belly piercings”.
She said: “I turn 30 this year, I’m going for more mature guys.
“In my early 20s, my criteria was tall with a six-pack. They could have the IQ of a two-year-old, I dind’t care.
“Now, it’s deeper. I’ve been single for two years and it’s harder. They need to be driven, kind, ambitious, have my humour.
“I’d marry Jack Black based on how funny he is.”

Kathryn Louise Burn furious over being sexualised by ‘Apprentice’ fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Kathryn Louise Burn has hit out at being sexualised when she appeared on ‘The Apprentice’.
The 31-year-old entrepreneur, who was on the BBC show in 2022, slammed some TV fans’ objectification of the show’s female candidates, accusing the viewers of focusing on what the women “look like rather than their capabilities and achievements”.
Kathryn captioned a video posted to Instagram that showed her talking as articles on females from newspapers flashed up behind her: “‘She looks like a trolly dolly air head. She should dress more like a man for business and not flaunt her body’… yep this was a comment about me when my photo was released 2 years ago for @apprenticeuk.

”I am SICK of seeing the same articles come out every single year when candidates are announced –º concentrating on what they (usually the women) look like, rather than their capabilities and achievements. And, the comments that follow off the back of these articles.
“One of the most disappointing things is that these articles are all written by women too. What are you thoughts on this? Should women dress a certain way if they want to be taken seriously in business?”
Kathryn also used her Instagram clip to highlight an article from one tabloid newspaper that included a photo of her in a swimsuit, which she branded “outrageous”.
She also highlighted the hateful comments she received as a result of the article.
Kathryn went on: “I see the same articles come out every single year that ‘The Apprentice’ candidates are announced. Now I remember when I was announced on the show two years ago, my photo in a bikini was on the front cover of The Sun.
“Now this was just a photo that was just on my social media, someone had gone on there, taken that photo and plastered it on the front page of The Sun newspaper. Now the comments that I was met with for this photo were outrageous.
“I was called dumb, I had no business acumen, I was never going to get very far, I was there for fame, I looked like a Love Islander, there was no way I was going to do well, I was thick – all of these comments just because of this one photo.”
“How ridiculous and how archaic and outdated is this attitude?”

Angela Rippon planning to mark 80th birthday with ‘crazy three days’ of partying in Sin City with pals

OHMYGOSSIP — Angela Rippon is planning to mark her 80th birthday with a “crazy” three days of partying in Las Vegas.
The veteran newsreader wowed audiences with her age-defying stint on the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last year and has now declared she has no plans for slowing down when she becomes an octogenarian in October.
She told Platinum magazine about her plans for a birthday blow out in Vegas: “I’m still thinking about how to celebrate my 80th this October. I had a big party when I was 60 and I said that would be the last of my parties.
“When I was 70 I took myself off alone to Oman and stayed in a beautiful hotel in Muscat.”
When she mentioned the idea of a trip to Vegas trip for her 80th, six of Angela’s friends said they would be up for the holiday.
Angela added: “At my age I should be allowed the latitude to do what I like and if I want to spend three crazy days in Las Vegas that’s what I’ll do.
“In my head I’ve never grown up.
“I may not be quite as strong as I was in my 40s or 50s but I am still flexible and the dancing has made me stronger.”
In August 2023, it was announced Angela would be taking part in the 21st series of ‘Strictly’, more than 30 years after she hosting the original version of the show, ‘Come Dancing’.
She turned 79 while participating in the series, and is the oldest contestant in the show’s history.
Angela, who danced with ballroom professional Kai Waddington, 34, and was the eighth celebrity voted off the show’s 21st run, said she had at least one cryotherapy ice bath a week as well as a deep tissue massage to maintain her body for the competition.
She revealed while in the contest: “I don’t want people to concentrate on my age, it shouldn’t be a factor in what I’m doing.
“If it’s something that encourages people to think more positively about themselves as they get older, then I think that’s probably a good thing, but personally in my head, I’ve been 30 for the last 40 years.
“It’s not something that really concerns me.”

Domhnall Gleeson reveals why he took nearly year off after shooting new romantic drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Domhnall Gleeson took nearly a year off after shooting his new romantic drama ‘Alice and Jack’ to shake off his lovelorn character.
Despite playing parts including a psychotic murderer in ‘Calvary’, the 40-year-old – who is the son of big screen veteran Brendan Gleeson, 68 – admitted he was forced to take the time out as he found the role so closely intertwined with his life.
He told The Sun about playing Jack alongside Andrea Riseborough, 42: “This role really amazingly synched up with my life, and how long I’ve known Andrea.
“We kept crossing over every few years over 15 years, washing in and out of each other’s lives.
“I took 10 months off after the shoot because I found it really hard to shake off at the end of it, because I’m so similar to Jack in a weird way.”
The six-part Channel 4 drama, which also stars Aisling Bea, 39, and Aimee Lou Wood, 29, follows the titular Alice and Jack as they struggle with their relationship over a 15-year period.
Created and directed by ‘Mad About You’ filmmaker Victor Levin, 63, Channel 4 has billed it as a “love story for the ages”.
A synopsis said: “When Alice and Jack first meet they’re bound by a connection so powerful it seems nothing can break it, but will their path lead them to a place of happiness and togetherness?
“Or will life and their own emotional complexities get in the way? Honest, intimate, and surprisingly funny, the series shows love in all its unexpected, technicolour, kaleidoscopic beauty.”
Domhnall said when the drama was announced: “The only work I’ve wanted to watch and do since the pandemic is work about connection and love, and work with a sense of humour.
“Alice and Jack keep coming back to each other because they can’t help themselves – they find in each other something that they don’t have on their own.
“I think they’re soulmates – I think it’s bigger than just the two of them.
“Their story centres on connection and love in the most beautiful way and reminds us that we are always allowed to smile – even if it’s through the tears.”

‘I would be so grateful’: Zoe Saldana hopes for fourth Star Trek film

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Saldana would be “grateful” to make a fourth ‘Star Trek’ film.
The 45-year-old actress played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the rebooted trilogy and is open to reprising the role amid speculation that a new movie in is the works.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Zoe said: “I mean, I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard they’re gearing up to do a new one with a younger, sort of, take on it… I don’t know if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last round.
“Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules. But working with J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot, was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.”
Chris Pine is set to return as James T. Kirk in the potential movie but expressed annoyance last year at the lack of progress being made in development following the departure of director Matt Shakman.
He told Esquire magazine: “I don’t know anything. In ‘Star Trek’ land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything. I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors.”
The ‘Wonder Woman’ actor admits that he and his co-stars were taken by surprise when producer J.J. Abrams announced that ‘Star Trek 4’ was in the works and has become used to a lack of clarity from film bosses.
Chris said: “I would say it’s frustrating. It doesn’t really foster the greatest sense of partnership, but it’s how it’s always been. I love the character. I love the people. I love the franchise. But to try to change the system in which things are created – I just can’t do it. I don’t have the energy.”

‘This one felt right’: Martin Scorsese defends Killer of the Flower Moon length

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Scorsese thinks the length of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ “felt right” despite complaints about the runtime.
The 81-year-old filmmaker’s epic new movie is over three hours long and he admits that he is at a loss at how to respond to those who think that picture should be shorter.
Scorsese told Variety: “I really don’t know how to respond to it except for the fact that many people seem to go with it. Some people say, ‘I want to see it again.’
“Not every film is for every person. Not every novel is for every reader, not every painting, etc. I don’t know if it’s something that will be universally accepted. This one felt right (at this length), and I felt that while I was watching it. I felt inside of it.”
Lily Gladstone has been nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the movie as Mollie Burkhart – the wife of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Scorsese recalled how he opted to cast the star immediately after seeing her performance in the film ‘Certain Women’.
The ‘Taxi Driver’ director said: “What I saw Lily do in ‘Certain Women’ – how she commanded the space and the screen and the emotional impact of what appeared to be minimal and very internal – that’s what I was looking for.
“We had just started developing the character, and I felt that Lily had it in her. That she would seriously find her.”
‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ was particularly poignant for Gladstone as an indigenous actress and DiCaprio reflected on how she became a key figure in putting together the plot.
The 49-year-old actor said: “I think that beyond her talent and her ability to embody Mollie the way she did, she became an authority and a partner on how to craft the story.
“We based this film on an unreliable protagonist, inspired by films like ‘A Place in the Sun’, ‘The Heiress’, ‘Red River’ and movies like that from the 40s. My character is lurking in the shadows.
“But Lily was there when we needed to get to the core of certain answers about the relationship. Lily was Mollie to us. Marty can attest to that. She always seemed to have the answer.”

Michael Palin to explore Nigeria in new travel show

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Palin is set to explore Nigeria for the first time in his new travel show.
The 80-year-old ‘Monty Python’ star has embarked on a 1,300-mile journey for his new Channel 5 series, which currently has the working title ‘Michael Palin: Into Nigeria’.
He said in a statement about the upcoming series: “Nigeria has the biggest economy, and the biggest population in Africa. The potential of the country is enormous, but so are its problems.
“Visiting the country for the first time, I saw these problems at first hand, but also caught a whiff of the excitement and energy of the place.
“Sometimes inspiring, sometimes a perplexing challenge, my journey through this rich, raucous mix of a country hardly gave me time to draw breath.
“I came home exhausted but exhilarated, and, as in the best of journeys, feeling I know a lot more about the world.”
‘Into Nigeria’ is due to air later this year and will see Michael travel to Lagos and the northern region of the country, and is billed as a showcase of “the voices, opinions and experiences of Nigerians from all walks of life”.
Will Smith, head of factual at ITN Productions, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Michael again as he explores one of the most important yet least understood countries in the world.
“During a challenging journey down the spine on the country Michael goes beyond the stereotypes to reveal a land of extreme contrasts and beguiling beauty.
“As Nigeria’s influence grows on the world stage this is a timely exploration of ‘the giant of Africa’.”
Guy Davies, Channel 5’s factual commissioning editor for non-scripted UK original shows added it was a “thrill” to be working with Michael again, and promised it would be “more than an epic and beautiful journey”.
He added: “It’s a thrill that Michael’s new journey is again with Channel 5 after two masterful series with us.
“Nigeria is more than an epic and beautiful journey, it’s a look at the future and past in a global context.
“It’s also one of the most extraordinarily visual and heartfelt series you’ll ever see, and who better than Michael to listen and learn as he meets the people of a country whose significance and influence will rise over the coming decades.”

Sir David Jason admits one of his burning ambitions is a blockbuster film role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Jason wants to break into Hollywood.
At the age of 83, and after a career spanning 50 years, the Del Boy actor said one of his remaining burning ambitions is a part in a blockbuster movie.
He told The Times: “One of my ambitions is to be part of a major movie, as that would complete my dream of a Hollywood experience.”
Sir David also asked during his chat with the newspaper: “Any producers out there?”
The actor, who spent 22 years playing Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter on ‘Only Fools and Horses’ did a handful of films in the 1970s including ‘Under Milk Wood’, but has focused on TV work, with his other iconic roles including Granville in ‘Open All Hours’ and its follow-up ‘Still Open All Hours’, as well as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in ‘A Touch of Frost’ and Pop Larkin in ‘The Darling Buds of May’.
Reflecting on his award-laden television work, Sir David added to The Times: “I try not to look back too much. The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there, but I couldn’t be happier with how my career has turned out.”
Sir David spoke of his Hollywood dreams after his ‘Only Fools’ co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst, 62, last year landed a money-spinning role in the ‘Frasier’ sitcom reboot.
Nicholas, famed for his role as Del’s brother Rodney on ‘Only Fools’, plays boozy university professor Alan Cornwall in the return of the US show on Paramount+.
But Sir David admitted he still hasn’t watched his old co-star on the reboot, saying: “Winter evenings have us hunkering down in front of the fire and watching television.”
“I haven’t seen the reboot of ‘Frasier’ yet with Nick Lyndhurst, my old co-star from ‘Only Fools and Horses’, but I’m sure he will have done a great job.”

‘Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends’ creator blasts its US reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — The creator of ‘Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends’ has slammed its US reboot.
Writer Britt Allcroft, 80, who produced the beloved children’s TV show from 1984 to 2003, said the legacy of the programme has been “tarnished” due to the changes made in the American version, ‘Thomas and Friends: All Engines Go’.
She told The Times: “There is only one Thomas. Thomas doesn’t want to be reimagined. Sadly, (toy maker) Mattel now has control of Thomas and there is nothing I can do.”
The American version of the programme premiered in 2021, a decade after Mattel bought the property for $680 million.
Mattel said it wanted to take an “entirely new approach” to the franchise, and utilise a new animation style, as well as feature a more diverse cast in its shows.
The most recent ‘Thomas’ series includes an autistic engine, Bruno the Brake Car, and a female high-speed locomotive called Kana.
Britt insisted the reboot was “not ‘Thomas and Friends’ as first created by (Wilbert) Awdry, neither is it the original ‘Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends’ created by me with a wonderful team of talented people who created the magic”.
The writer added if she could “wave a magic wand” the original 1984 series would be available on streaming platforms as many fans believed it was “art”.
A new series of the American show is due to be broadcast on Channel 5 this spring, and is available to watch on Paramount+.
‘Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends’ is not the only British property that will receive an American reboot, as ‘Bob the Builder’ is also set to appear in a movie written by ‘The Mother’ star Jennifer Lopez that will see the children’s icon be reimagined as a Latin American construction worker.
The show is set to see the character travel to Puerto Rico for a construction job, where he takes on “issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build”.

Kerry Godliman reveals struggles to learn ‘Trigger Point’ lines

OHMYGOSSIP — Kerry Godliman struggles to learn her lines for ‘Trigger Point’ as the show’s scripts are so stuffed with technical terms.
The ‘After Life’ actress, 50, said she is forced to spend hours memorising them due to the amount of jargon and acronyms delivered by her data analyst character Sonya Reeves in the ITV bomb disposal drama.
She was quoted in the Daily Star saying: “Because of what my character does for a job, I speak in all manner of jargon on the show. There are a lot of acronyms.
“I don’t quite know what I’m saying. In the first series I practically spoke in the periodic table, so it was very mysterious what I was saying.”
Kerry added about having to spend hours reading her scripts to make sure she can say all her lines convincingly: “You just have to go over and over them until you know them.”
She is starring in the second series of ‘Trigger Point’, which started on Sunday (28.01.24) night on ITV1 and ITVX, and Kerry added about the drama to come: “This time there are more bombs, more tension, more baddies and more extreme danger.
“I didn’t think it could top the first series, but I think it does.”
The new ‘Trigger Point’ series sees its bomb experts face an attack in the heart of a city, and much like in the first season, Kerry’s character feeds Lana, played by Vicky McClure, 40, information on explosive devices when she’s in the field.
Kerry said in a recent question and answer session with ITV about making the shift from the comedy elements of ‘After Life’ to the pure drama of ‘Trigger Point’: “I do feel lucky that I get to do both (comedy and drama.) I did drama first, way before comedy.
“When I first left drama school, I was doing ‘Casualty’ and ‘The Bill’ – all the dramas – and then quietly working up a stand-up career on the circuit.
“Those two worlds didn’t really ever cross over for me until I worked with Ricky Gervais, because he knew me from the comedy world but some of his shows had quite dramatic elements, too.
“When I did ‘After Life’ it became such a big show, so you get seen more and people think of you for other things.”
Kerry played dying Lisa in ‘After Life’, the late wife of Tony (played Ricky Gervais) who constantly watches videos of her from the past throughout the Netflix show.

Greg James’ reality show Rise and Fall scrapped after one series

OHMYGOSSIP — Greg James’ reality show ‘Rise and Fall’ has been scrapped by Channel 4 after just one series.
The programme was made by those behind BBC hit ‘Traitors’, Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group, and followed 16 ordinary British people “from all walks of life and ages” as they start the game as equals before finding themselves either as a Ruler or Grafter.
In a position of power, the Rulers lived “in an opulent penthouse”, with the Grafters stuck in the basement.
The winner was chosen from the Rulers at the end of the series to win the prize pot of up to £100,000.
A Channel 4 spokesperson told The Sun: “Rise and Fall was a great show that we were very proud of and attracted strong audiences, but Channel 4 is all about the new and we want to make space for the next great new reality idea…
“We would like to thank Greg and the talented team who made such a hugely fun and innovative show.”
‘Radio 1 Breakfast Show’ host Greg, 38, phoned ‘Traitors’ host Claudia Winkleman, 52, for her advice ahead of the series.
“I gave her a call, I know Claudia fairly well. She was on my show to talk about The Traitors not so long ago, and I said, can I have a call to chat about some secret stuff, so I did.
“I broke the non-disclosure agreement with Claudia Winkleman, but I thought she’s a Faithful, so I thought I’d be able to trust her. She was great, she gave great advice.
“She was like, ‘You know what, just immerse yourself in this world, Just get in it basically,’ and I have been. It’s been really, really fun. She just said to enjoy it because these shows are really fun to do.”
Greg admitted being on this kind of show is “really intense” for the contestants.
He added: “I think being filmed 24 hours a day. It’s really intense for them. They’re having to perform, but also they’re having to become friends with people, strategize at the same time.”

Gregg Wallace reveals wife’s secret health battles

OHMYGOSSIP — Gregg Wallace has “nothing but admiration” for his wife Anna after she endured a series of painful surgeries.
The ‘MasterChef’ star married Anna in 2016 and they welcomed their son Sid – who is autistic – three years later, and now Gregg has opened up about the challenges his spouse has faced recently – including three three operations and being forced to use a colostomy bag for a year – while she’s also mourning the loss of her father Massimo who died in November.
Gregg told The Sun newspaper: “Anna is very quiet and unassuming, but the whole family revolves around that young woman. She’s had three operations on her stomach, including a hysterectomy at 33, and had to use a colostomy bag for a year.
“She’s got an autistic little boy, she’s just lost her dad, she’s got grown-up stepchildren and a workaholic husband. That girl is an absolute pillar of strength and I have nothing but admiration for her.”
Gregg previously stepped back from his work co-hosting ‘ ‘Inside the Factory’ so he could spend more time with Sid and he’s revealed the youngster is doing well since they got him into a good school.
He added to the newspaper: “Sid is a remarkable little boy. We were very fortunate we got Sid into a special needs school, Five Acre Woods. He skips in every day and comes out filthy every afternoon.
“He’s very happy. He’s non-verbal and in nappies still, but communication is improving. There’s lots of eye contact and smiles, and a cuddle is Sid’s default position.
“He’s spending more time interacting with toys and with us, so we are optimistic.”
Gregg – who also has two grown-up children from a previous relationship – previously admitted he felt terrible after Sid was first diagnosed with autism.
He told The Times newspaper’s T2 magazine: “You go through a period of almost like mourning. Like, my God, I haven’t got the child I thought I had.”
However, he insisted he has made peace with it, saying: “Blame is for God and small children. It doesn’t make it any better if we go: it’s my fault.”
