John Malkovich: Hollywood is at a croosroads

OHMYGOSSIP — John Malkovich thinks the movie business finds itself at a crossroads.
The 62-year-old actor has claimed Hollywood has no idea what will be a hit and that besides Marvel, none of the studios have a formula for success.
He explained: “Apparently it’s been a pitiable year for movies. [Studios] don’t seem to know what films to do, beside Marvel comics.
“There really isn’t an audience for little independent movies. You either make a film for $135 million or you make it on your iPhone for nothing – the middle ground is no longer there.”
Meanwhile, the acclaimed actor also said that people who live in big cities often have a misplaced sense of self-worth about themselves.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I think a very patronising attitude is common among the city, you know?
“People who live in big cities get the impression the rest of their country is like them and it probably isn’t the case. I don’t swallow [the idea] that the only clever people in the world live in certain cities, or people with any moral sense or human sense or education.”
By contrast, the veteran actor is modest about his own talents, saying that one of his few skills is the ability to focus.
He explained: “I don’t really have any talent, but if I have, it would be the ability to do whatever I’m doing 100 per cent, to be where I am, to not wish to be in New Orleans when I’m in Moscow.”

Stephanie Pratt: I've fallen for Joey Essex

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Pratt has “fallen” for Joey Essex.
The former ‘Made in Chelsea’ beauty and Joey have been rumoured to have been dating for a number of weeks – and Stephanie has now confirmed that the pair are more than just good friends.
Speaking during the finale of the first series of ‘Celebs Go Dating’, Stephanie said she “never thought I would fall for Joey Essex”, before she added: “This is the real deal.”
Joey, on the other hand, said his relationship with Stephanie could be “proper sick”.
He shared: “I am so excited to walk into this dinner party with Steph. It’s going to be sick.”
By contrast, Stephanie recently insisted Joey is everything she “doesn’t want” in a man.
The 30-year-old American shared a kiss with the former ‘Only Way Is Essex’ cast member on ‘Celebs Go Dating’, but claimed they would need to be “best friends” for a long time before they started dating.
She said: “He’s everything I don’t want in a man.
“He’s vain, and he’s skinnier than me. I can’t even understand him. I need a dictionary.
“The only thing I’m really thinking is I can see being a best friend that I fall in love with.”
Similarly, Joey claimed he struggles to understand Stephanie’s American accent.
He said: “I couldn’t retrain myself. Steph will have to compromise and I’ll have to compromise with her.
“She’s American. I can’t understand a word she’s saying. This is an international thing.
“It’s like speaking to someone from Spain. Most of the words she says, I’m like, ‘What?'”

Mel and Sue 'furious' with makers of The Great British Bake Off

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins were reportedly furious they were not among the first people to know about ‘The Great British Bake Off’ leaving the BBC.
The presenting duo recently announced they were quitting the programme after it was confirmed that it was to move to Channel 4 – and their decision is said to have been influenced by Love Productions’ failure to keep them in the loop about the switch.
The makers of the show recently accepted a £75 million offer from the broadcaster to take the ‘Bake Off’ from its original home on the BBC, prompting Mel, 48, and Sue, 46, to walk away from the programme.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was very last minute. Mel and Sue only got a very brief heads-up before it was being reported everywhere and they’re an integral part of the show.”
Meanwhile, Jo Wheatley, who won the show in 2011, admitted that the departure of Mel and Sue is a major setback for the programme.
She said: “I can’t imagine ‘Bake Off’ without them. They will be hard to replace.
“I was anxious filming, but Mel and Sue’s humour and relaxed approach made me feel totally at ease.”
Ian Cumming, the runner-up in 2015, echoed the same sentiment.
He explained: “Mel and Sue brought a humour and lightness that makes the show ‘Bake Off’ rather than something serious like ‘Masterchef’.
“It’s the crucial thing they bring. I just can’t imagine it will have the same success and charm. It won’t be the same. It will lose huge audience figures as a result.”

Renee Zellweger learnt 'personal' things on hiatus

OHMYGOSSIP — Renee Zellweger learned “personal” things about herself during her hiatus.
The 47-year-old actress stepped out of the spotlight for six years before returning to make ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’, and though she admits her time away was beneficial and educational, she doesn’t want to make the reasons why public just yet.
Asked what she’d learned about herself, she told Heat magazine: “I can’t say. I wish I could tell you. Two reasons, one of them is too personal. And another one of them I am working on and I would much rather do it than just talk about it.”
During her break, the ‘Cold Mountain’ star created a TV show called ‘Cinema Girl’ but it wasn’t picked up for syndication, but Renee insists she wasn’t too disappointed.
She said of the project: “We filmed it. It was a pilot and that was it. It’s OK.
“Some of the girls have gone on and done great things. A couple of them are in other shows now and that was part of the point – it was to find new talent and give it a push.
“The impetus to do it was to see if we could. It was something that I had thought about doing since I was in college.
“The idea evolved and I got my partners involved. We saw if we could come up with an idea and get a treatment together, get the agency as partners and if we could sell it.
“We kept getting past these different markers and it was a triumph in so many respects that I can’t be disappointed that it didn’t get ultimately picked up.
“The template for it is successful for so many other shows. That is pretty exciting to know. We’re on to something!”

Tom Cruise 'to star in new Mission: Impossible'

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise has reportedly agreed to make a new ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie.
The Hollywood actor is poised to reprise the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt for a sixth installment of the money-spinning movie franchise, which is based on the TV series of the same name.
Although Paramount has declined to comment on the mounting speculation, TheWrap says that production on the much-discussed movie could be set to start in January for an early 2018 release.
The new ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie would be a major release for Paramount, which has fallen behind rival studios in recent times and has suffered some high-profile box office failings, including ‘Ben-Hur’, which has been one of the biggest commercial disappointments of 2016.
By contrast, the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series has proven to be a huge money-maker, having made a combined $2.8 billion worldwide.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Tom, 54, charters private jets to take his gym kit around the world with him while he is shooting movies.
The award-winning actor ensures he can stay in shape while filming by using private planes to fly his fitness gear to his next destination the day before he arrives.
A source recently said: “Working out is really important to Tom and he likes to have his own equipment with him so he can exercise in private.
“It might seem extravagant but for an A-lister of his stature, hiring a private jet is like the rest of us hailing a taxi.”

Sam Neill wants to present the Great British Bake Off

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Neill wants to host the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
The ‘Jurassic Park’ actor has admitted he knows “nothing about baking” but would love to take over from current presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins when the popular BBC show moves across to Channel 4 next year.
Talking to Andy Bush on Absolute Radio on Friday (16.09.16), the 69-year-old star said: “(I would present the ‘GBBO’) a hundred percent in. I know nothing about baking but I don’t think that should be a hurdle.
“It’s about a year away from production. I could learn everything that you need to know about bread making.
“We could make a much cheaper ‘… Bake off’ just with the bread making machine. I’ve got a bread maker thing at home. You just put the flour and the water in with a bit of salt and stuff and voila! Twenty minutes.”
The ‘Great British Bake Off’, which has been on screens since 2010, has been the hot topic of conversation this week as it was recently announced that it will shift across to Channel 4 after the BBC failed to offer a big enough sum to Love Productions, the makers of the programme, and its rival broadcaster quickly swooped in with a bigger deal.
The BBC offered the production company an estimated £15 million per year – double the current contract – in a bid to keep hold of the show, but producers refused to accept offers below £25 million.
Channel 4 quickly waded in with a three-year deal – worth a reported £75 million – after talks between the BBC and Love Productions broke down earlier this week.
However, the future of the show is currently hanging in the balance as Mel and Sue announced shortly after the channel swap that they would be stepping down as hosts.
The fate of current judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry is not yet known but it’s believed they’re currently in monetary negotiations with Channel 4.

Michelle Keegan: Filming Our Girl has cured my fear of heights

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Keegan believes ‘Our Girl’ has cured her fear of heights.
The 29-year-old actress – who portrays Lance Corporal Georgie Lane in the BBC One army drama – was forced to go up in a helicopter in the second episode of the new series and, despite her initial nerves, she now has a new hunger for daring drops.
Speaking during a Facebook Live chat, Michelle told Woman magazine: “We did (film) the helicopter (scenes) in the air, we were harnessed in and I’m actually quite scared of heights but I think after this I was fine with them. I wanted to go back up again.”
Viewers watched anxiously through their hands during Wednesday’s (14.09.16) episode when the former ‘Coronation Street’ star’s alter ego was dramatically rescued by the British Special Forces after she was taken hostage by the Taliban last week.
Michelle said, although she was in awe of her stunt double, she wanted to do all her own manoeuvres – among which viewers saw her violently dragged off a truck during Georgie’s kidnapping.
She said: “A lot of the time I wanted to go right up in to the helicopter but they would only let me go halfway, I just wanted to do it all…I love them (action roles).
“I’ve got stuck in so much, a lot of the time they said ‘oh you’re not allowed to do this, don’t do that,’ but I wanted to do all of the stunts. All the dragging out the car was me, I was padded up.”
Filming for the drama in South Africa meant Michelle was working 14-hour days but that hasn’t put her off from other action roles and she now has her eye on a future ‘James Bond’ movie.

Rob James-Collier was out of work for 7 months after Downton Abbey

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob James-Collier was out of work for seven months after ‘Downton Abbey’ ended last year.
The 39-year-old actor may have played one of the most loved characters in the period drama, which concluded last Christmas, but he has admitted he didn’t have much luck when it came to securing roles after the popular show.
Speaking at the launch of his new ITV thriller ‘The Level’, he said: “I spend more time out of work than in work, so it couldn’t be frustrating or I wouldn’t be able to survive.
“I was waiting for the right thing and I could’ve been waiting for years. You just don’t know – and then this thankfully came along in the same way that ‘Downton…’ came along.”
Rob melted hearts around the globe for five years while was portraying gay under-butler Thomas Barrow in ‘Downton Abbey’ but he’s now desperately trying to shed anything related to that role so he doesn’t get pigeonholed.
He explained: “I always try and do something new and different. Unfortunately it’s not always the way it turns out – because it’s hard, it’s a tough game to be in. And I always say it, but there’s better actors than me out of work all the time.”
And Rob’s new role in ‘The Level’ is a world away from Thomas as he now portrays police officer Kevin O’Dowd.
He said of the new series: “It was a no-brainer, because it was a powerful, energetic script, and very fast-paced. Something’s constantly happening – you have to keep your mind on the game to keep up with it. You won’t get bored watching it!”

Emma Bunton joins The X Factor's Judges' Houses

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Bunton has reportedly joined Simon Cowell for the ‘The X Factor’s Judges’ Houses round this week.
The show boss has already recruited Mel B to help him pick out the three contestants he wants to take through to the live shows, but it seems one Spice Girl isn’t enough as he’s now pulled in her band mate to help them get things just right.
According to the RadioTimes.co.uk, the blonde bombshell – who was known as Baby Spice in the band – flew out to Simon’s mansion in Los Angeles, California, earlier this week to help him and Mel put the finishing touches on his group.
And the 40-year-old singer certainly added fuel to the fire on Thursday (15.09.16) night when she uploaded a photo of her knocking back wine with her girl friend on Instagram.
She accompanied the boozy photograph with the caption: “Can’t sleep #L.A #champagnefrommelb (sic)”
This isn’t the first time Emma has been involved in the singing competition as she also helped Mel put together her final three when she was a mentor on the show two years ago.
Meanwhile, Mel may not have been chosen to sit on the panel this year alongside Simon, Nicole Scherzinger, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh but she’s certainly had a lot of involvement as she was pulled in as a guest-judge recently.
In scenes that aired last weekend, the 41-year-old bushy-haired beauty stepped in for Nicole after the Pussycat Dolls singer was pulled back to the US for another work project.

Dwayne Johnson lined up for more dramatic roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne Johnson’s manager is lining the action star for more dramatic roles.
Dany Garcia, who is head of William Morris Endeavour (WME) talent agency and also Johnson’s ex-wife, has meticulously guided the actor’s career over several years since he made the transition from wrestling for the WWE as ‘The Rock’ to the big screen in 2001 and she has very big plans for him in the future.
In an interview with Newsweek Europe, Garcia revealed Johnson’s diverse performances in movies such as ‘San Andreas’, ‘Central Intelligence’ and the upcoming ‘Baywatch’ remake are all building towards him taking on a very serious role.
She said: “In this last year, the choices have been very deliberate … ‘Central Intelligence’, it’s a comedy but he had some tremendous moments of vulnerability that created more range for him.”
But it’s not just blockbusters, Dwayne is star of HBO TV series ‘Ballers’, which gives him a different acting dimension.
Garcia explained: “‘Ballers’ is 30 minutes, it’s a more controlled storyline, there’s not fantastical explosions; Dwayne gets to have that range [in his performance].”
And she believes that when Johnson, 44, eventually does try his hand at a dramatic role “it’ll be an elegant landing. It won’t be shocking”.
Garcia’s template for Johnson’s career path is fellow muscle man Arnold Schwarzenegger.
She said: “We have Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the heyday doing all these massive action films, and then if he was to show up in an independent dramatic piece with a high-end director, people would be like what? He hasn’t earned the right to transition into that, so now you’re doing a disservice to Arnold, and a disservice to the project and the film.”

Adam Scott joins the cast of Little Evil

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Scott has joined the cast of ‘Little Evil’.
The ‘Parks and Recreation’ actor has been confirmed to star alongside Evangeline Lilly in the Netflix horror comedy movie that is due to hit the streaming service sometime in 2017, though no exact date has been confirmed.
The movie will be written and directed by Eli Craig, following the success of his last movie in the same genre ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’, and the storyline will see Gary (Adam) who has just married Samantha (Evangeline) and becomes step-father to her six-year-old son who turns out to be the Antichrist.
Adam, 43, and Evangeline are the two newest additions to a cast that already includes names like ‘Scrubs’ actor Donald Faison and ‘Whitney’s Chris D’Elia. Also confirmed are Brad Williams, Bridget Everett, Clancy Brown, Marcus Terrell Smith, Owen Atlas, and Tyler Labine.
Owen Atlas will be playing Evangeline’s Antichrist son, but as of yet all other roles remain unannounced.
Producers for the project will come from Bluegrass Films and Mandalay Pictures, with Scott Stuber, Jason Michael Berman and Dylan Clark working as producers, and Nicholas Nesbitt and Mark Morgan taking on the role of executive producers.
For ‘Ant-Man’ star Evangeline, the movie will mark her first role since giving birth to her second child, whose name is still unknown, with long-term boyfriend Norman Kali.
The 37-year-old actress – who also has five-year-old son Kahekili – said at the time: “This is my second time around, and I find I’ve been pretty lucky. It’s pretty straightforward, and I just love it. I feel good, I feel blissful.”

X Factor and Britain's Got Talent on screen until 2019

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ will remain on screens until 2019.
The popular talent shows, which are owned by Simon Cowell’s company Syco Entertainment, have just inked a deal with broadcaster ITV to keep them on the small box for at least another three years.
Simon said: “I want to thank ITV for continuing to be fantastic partners. I’m delighted for the shows and, in particular, for all the talented people who work on them with us.”
The new partnership, which includes ITV, Syco Entertainment and FremantleMedia UK, will kick off with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in the spring followed by ‘The X Factor’ in the autumn next year.
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Director of Television, said: “‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘The X Factor’ are both big, brilliant, wonderful shows and I am delighted that they will continue to take up their place as an important part of our schedule for the next three years.
“They are defining shows for us, ones that we are very proud to have as part of our entertainment slate, and they continue year after year, for months at a time, to be amongst the most popular and hugely entertaining formats on television.”
‘The X Factor’ first hit television screens in 2004 and has been responsible for the success of some of the biggest names in the industry, including One Direction and Little Mix.
‘Britain’s Got Talent’, which currently sees David Williams, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Simon on the panel, arrived on the small box in 2006 and sees the winner of each series perform for the royal family – including either Queen Elizabeth or the Prince of Wales – at the Royal Variety Performance in London in December.

Paul Hollywood to host Top Gear?

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Hollywood is reportedly in talks to host ‘Top Gear’.
The 50-year-old baker has been a judge on the BAFTA-winning ‘Great British Bake Off’ since it hit screens in 2010 but, with the recent news that the show is to move to Channel 4 next year, the BBC are keen to keep the silverfox and are toying with the idea of giving him a gig on the motoring series, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
If Paul accepts the deal, he’ll replace Chris Evans – who quit the programme earlier this year just eight months into his three-year deal following a plunge in ratings – as the main host.
Although the baker’s main love lies within the kitchen, viewers will no doubt be surprised to hear that Paul is actually a self-confessed petrol-head and owns two Aston Martins.
He’s also no stranger to the motoring world as he once hosted a special one-off show for the BBC called ‘License to Thrill’.
The chef even started taking part in amateur racing in 2015 when he made his debut in the Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
The news of a possible move for the star comes after it was announced that Love Productions – who produce ‘Great British Bake Off’ – had signed a three-year deal, worth £75 million, to move the show from the BBC to its rival Channel 4.
Presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have already stepped down from their roles as a result of the move, and although it is believed they will follow suit, neither Paul nor his co-judge Mary Berry have announced their plans as of yet.
A source said previously: “Mary and Paul have always stressed they would stand by Mel and Sue as they see them as family. They spend a huge amount of time together over the course of filming, and outside that as well.”

Ainsley Harriott blames Strictly Come Dancing for bad hip

OHMYGOSSIP — Ainsley Harriott has blamed ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for wearing down his right hip.
The 59-year-old chef – who was given the boot just five weeks into the series last year – has admitted he’s been battling with crippling pain since taking part in the Ballroom and Latin show 12 months ago and doctors have now urged him to have an operation to “resurface” the vital joint.
Speaking at the National Lottery Awards, he said: “After ‘Strictly…’ my right hip has been playing up and I need it resurfacing. They think I have osteoarthritis. If I do a long journey in the car and get up I am in pain after that.”
But, despite the devastating news, Ainsley is adamant he’s not bothered by the possibility of having an operation.
He said: “It doesn’t worry me, I’ve been a chef (standing on my feet all day) and it isn’t constant pain but you know that it is there. I also have a dog, so I’m constantly walking.”
However, Ainsley’s aches and pains are probably caused by the fact he has put on the weight he lost when he competed on the show because he’s eating better now.
He said: “I probably lost one and a half stone [20 pound]. (It’s) seven hours a day and you do pause to eat but you’re so exhausted, and you’re eating with dancers, it’s quite bird foodie – quinoa, couscous, bit of tomato.
“Perhaps you carb up for the performance, but you’re not really in the mood for it. I’m back up to 15-and-a-half stone.”
Meanwhile, despite his achy hip, Ainsley is in great health.
Speaking to Yahoo, he said: “I sometimes wish I was 10 years younger. I have a check up [at the doctors] every year, I just go, ‘Cholesterol is great, heart is good.’ ”

Joanna Lumley hits out at BBC's Are You Being Served? remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Joanna Lumley has lashed out at the BBC’s decision to reboot the popular 80s comedy ‘Are You Being Served?’.
The ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ actress admitted the original show, featuring Mollie Sugden, John Inman and Wendy Richard, is as clear in her mind today as it was when it last broadcast in 1985, and therefore doesn’t warrant a revisit.
She told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I can remember so vividly the people from the old ‘Are You Being Served?’. I’m slightly divided. You do think, ‘Maybe you should move on a bit?’ But maybe it entertains the young.”
And the subject of a reboot is no doubt close to the 70-year-old star’s heart as she played a German shopper and minor character Miss French in two episodes in 1973.
She was also married to co-writer Jeremy Lloyd in 1970, before the marriage was dissolved a few months later.
Last month, ‘Are You Being Served?’ returned for a special one-off episode, where Sherrie Hewson played Mrs. Slocombe and John Challis played Captain Peacock.
But it was heavily criticised by viewers who called it “terrible” and some even demanded back their licence fee.
The show was remade, along with a series of other old programmes such as ‘Porridge’, ‘The Good Life’ and ‘Young Hyacinth’ as part of the BBC’s Sitcom Season.
Meanwhile, although she’s made it clear she’s not a fan of remaking old shows, Joanna is no stranger to remakes herself as she rose to fame playing Purdy in ‘The New Avengers’ in 1976.
Speaking of that remake, she said: “There was a 10-year gap … After they had seen everybody – I mean they were going through grandmothers – I got the part.”

Calvin Harris too 'embarrassed' to do Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Calvin Harris is too “embarrassed” to compete on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 32-year-old DJ – who currently lives in the US but is originally from Scotland – has admitted he’d have to snub the show if he was asked to join next year’s line-up because his uncoordinated snake-hips and not so fancy footwork would leave him red-faced week-in week-out.
Speaking to Rickie Haywood Williams, Charlie Hedges and Melvin Odoom – who is currently competing on the Ballroom and Latin programme – on the KISS FM Breakfast Show on Friday (16.09.16), Calvin said of the show: “That is an embarrassment that I could not put myself through.”
However, although he’s not keen on slipping into a pair of dancing shoes and flaunting his moves under the disco ball, Calvin may be slightly bias because he’s just signed up to appear on rival show ‘The X Factor’.
The ‘This Is What You Came For’ hitmaker was initially banned from ever appearing on the singing competition again after he stormed the stage in 2009 when Jedward were performing with a pineapple on his head.
Speaking of his gate-crashing moment, he said: “I wasn’t proud of it. But I was, you know, deeply satisfied with myself.”
Calvin set tongues wagging last week when he uploaded a video on his Snapchat account of him sitting with panellist Nicole Scherzinger at her apartment in Nice, France, while shooting the Judges’ Houses round.
Nicole said in the clip: “We’re just chilling here at my villa in the South of France,” to which Calvin replied, “Quite nice.”
