Pearl Mackie was 'too rebellious' to watch Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Mackie didn’t watch the rebooted ‘Doctor Who’ because she was going through a “rebellious phase”.
The 29-year-old actress has been cast as the next companion of the Time Lord in the iconic sci-fi series – but has admitted she didn’t follow the programme when it returned to the air in 2005.
Asked to name her favourite Doctor, Pearl explained: “I haven’t got one. The thing is, it wasn’t on when I was a kid.”
And asked whether she watched the reboot, she said: “I was 15 or 16, and it wasn’t my thing. I was going through my rebellious phase.”
But since being cast alongside the Doctor, Pearl admitted she has become much more aware of the show’s popularity.
She told the Guardian newspaper: “The other day, I was in my friend’s shop just over there and this French guy comes in. I say, ‘I don’t work here, but someone will be with you in a minute.’ He says, ‘Non, non, non! You are Pearl Mackie, yes? Can I take your picture?'”
Pearl also offered an insight into what fans of the show can expect from her on-screen character, recalling the circumstances surrounding the day she was cast.
She shared: “I turned up in T-shirt, jeans and some yellow boots and I felt out of my depth. It was the Soho Hotel – so posh!
“I knew I could bring her to life. She’s funny and geeky and vulnerable. There’s a goofiness to her and a big heart. She gets things wrong, she has a temper. I thought, ‘I know her. I could play her.'”

Graham Norton doesn't think The Great British Bake Off will be as good on Channel 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton thinks ‘The Great British Bake Off’ “will never be as good” on Channel 4.
The 53-year-old chat show host – who is currently starring alongside ex-‘Bake Off’ presenter Mel Giedroyc on new programme ‘Let it Shine’ – thinks the show’s departure from the BBC is “sad for everybody.”
He shared: “Love productions is looking bad, Channel 4 looks a bit stupid, for everyone else it’s collateral damage.
“‘Bake Off’ was about the four presenters and there’s no alchemy which will be very hard to replicate. No matter how good it is on Channel 4, it will never be as good as it was on BBC: even if all four had gone, somehow it would have been sullied. But in the end it’s a show about cakes and we’ll get on with our lives.”
Meanwhile, Graham admitted he is curious to see how much other BBC presenters earn when the corporation’s top talent salaries are released in 2017.
Graham – who is rumoured to be the second-highest paid presenter behind Gary Lineker – told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “When it’s published, I will be looking to see how much everyone else gets, but it’s none of my business. Only something like eight per cent of the BBC’s budget goes on on-screen talent.
“I always think, surely the story is, ‘What the f**k is the other 92 per cent spent on?’ That’s much more interesting, but no one seems to care. No one’s gunning for Ant and Dec or Simon Cowell.”

Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Scott battle for Han Solo role

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Scott are in the running to star in the Han Solo movie.
The 27-year-old model, ‘Creed’ actress and Power Rangers newcomer were called in for screen tests in London this week by Disney and Lucasfilm to try out for the highly sought after female lead in the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film, according to Variety.
The successful candidate will appear in the as-yet-untitled project opposite Alden Ehrenreich, who beat off stiff competition to take on the role of the young space smuggler that Harrison Ford originally played.
The female character the trio are battling to portray is a closely guarded secret, however, producers will need to decide who they cast this side of Christmas as production is due to kick off next year.
They’re also searching for an actor to play the role of Han’s friend Lando Calrissian – originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy – and ‘Atlanta’ star Donald Glover is the favourite to nab the role in the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed movie.
Few story details have been revealed about exactly what events in Han Solo’s life prior to his first appearance on screen in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ in 1977 will be told, but the space smuggler will be reunited with his Millennium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca on screen.
Meanwhile, Kravitz – who is the daughter of rock star Lenny Kravitz – will next be seen in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ alongside the likes of Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell.
The Warner Bros. Pictures film is a spin-off of the Harry Potter franchise and the model-turned-actress will have a relatively small part in the feature, but she could return for the sequel, which the studio has already scheduled in for a November 2018 release.
Kravitz has built up a strong presence on screen over the past few years with parts in high-profile movies like ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past, ‘Dope’ and ‘Mad Max’.

Rosamund Pike: Hollywood isn't easy for women

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosamund Pike has claimed Hollywood “isn’t easy” for women and non-white actors.
The 37-year-old British starlet is enjoying the most successful period of her career but she insists life in the movie business in Los Angeles is “doubly testing” for actresses and black thespians to win parts and lead big-budget movies because there simply aren’t enough parts being written.
Speaking at the premiere of her new movie ‘A United Kingdom’ at the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday (05.10.16), she said: “It’s not easy being a woman in this business … there aren’t as many roles. It’s also hard from an actor’s point of view to be a person of colour. It is fine to be the second lead, but it’s not always so easy to be the lead.”
Pike – who won the Best Actress Empire award for her incredible performance in ‘Gone Girl’ – added that it was a “huge” milestone that black British female director Amma Asante got ‘United Kingdom’ made and she “deserves every success she gets” with the romantic drama.
Asante is the first black woman to direct the opening movie of the London Film Festival and speaking on the red carpet, she backed Pike’s comments and called for there to be “the same privilege” for women as given to men in Hollywood.
She said: “We are not a minority as women, we are 50 per cent of the population and we also play a large part in getting men to the cinema to watch these films that often times is with white men within a certain age bracket on screen, and it’s not to say women directors will always direct women’s stories but seeing the world through a female gaze from time to time shouldn’t be an odd thing, it shouldn’t be 1.4 per cent of the time. It’s getting better (for female directors) but it’s not good.”
‘A United Kingdom’ tells the true love story of Sir Seretse Khama – the first president of Botswana played by David Oyelowo – and Ruth Williams (Pike), the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of opposition from their families and the British government.

Heavy D challenges Lewis Bloor to a fight in foul-mouthed rap

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star Heavy D has challenged Lewis Bloor to a fight.
The reality TV personality has targeted Lewis and Marnie Simpson in a foul-mouthed rap posted online, offering to fight the former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star in a ring.
He sings: “Lewis is a **** and his bird’s a ho.”
Heavy has spent the last week goading Lewis on social media, urging him to agree to fight him in a charity boxing match.
Heavy said: “Lewis mate, what you waiting for? Let’s get it on in the ring.
“We’ve got the venue, promoters… what are you waiting for, big b******s?
“You can’t do it when you don’t have security or cameras around, can you?”
Heavy and Lewis memorably clashed during their time together in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house in August, when show bosses were forced to give Lewis a final warning after he tried to punch the ‘Storage Hunters UK’ star.
The row erupted when Lewis came to the defence of his lover Marnie, who was being provoked by Heavy.
Lewis eventually snapped, saying: “Shut the f**k up! I’m trying to talk to her, and you’re just winding me up!”
Since leaving the house over the summer, Heavy has continued to provoke his rival and has called on the reality TV star to face him in a boxing ring in aid of charity.

Lord Alan Sugar: I was going to quit The Apprentice over unfair prize

OHMYGOSSIP — Lord Alan Sugar wanted to quit ‘The Apprentice’ because he hated having to employ the winner.
The 69-year-old businessman has admitted the original prize that gave one contestant a spot in his multi-national company infuriated his staff so much that he was forced to give the BBC an ultimatum in 2011 to change the format or he’d walk.
He said: “It wasn’t a good idea and that was it. I said, ‘I’m not doing that any more’. Giving someone a job was turning out to be quite difficult.
“It was problematic as far as other employees were concerned. You don’t just create a job out of thin air. Otherwise you don’t have a good business do you? There was never an empty job.
“I would frankly not be still doing this if I hadn’t changed the format.”
The BBC retained Lord Sugar by making the apprentices fight for a £250,000 investment from the billionaire to help kick-start their own business.
But the TV personality thinks even that won’t be enough to keep the show going in “20 years” because the ideas are getting bigger and better.
He said: “The only change could be if it goes on for the next 20 years, it won’t be £250,000, it’ll be £25 million.”
Meanwhile, 18 new candidates will soon fall victim to Lord Sugar’s sharp tongue when the new series of ‘The Apprentice’ kicks off and the no-nonsense businessman has insisted his quips aren’t scripted.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I don’t know how you can script things to say when you’re sat with 18 people in front of you.
“You don’t know what’s coming out of their mouths next. It’s off the cuff, obviously.”

Anne Robinson hits out at looks-obsessed culture

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Robinson has hit out at Britain’s obsession with beauty – even though she’s had a facelift.
The 72-year-old TV presenter has denied having undergone any further surgery since going under the knife 13 years ago, saying rumours to the contrary are “rubbish”.
She shared: “Look, I had a facelift 13 years ago. But I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, my hair is highlighted once a month, I run and I don’t eat crap food. I try quite hard to look OK.
“I don’t go and have my face pulled around all the time.”
The former ‘Weakest Link’ host also admitted to being frustrated by the attention surrounding her facelift surgery, while other celebrities are never asked about the issue.
She told The Sun newspaper: “There are 5,000 face surgeons in this country and I seem to be the only woman on TV who has had a facelift. How does that work?
“There are fewer British film stars in their late sixties that haven’t had a facelift than the ones who have.
“Unfortunately, if you go to the wrong surgeon people really are going to notice. You need to go to one that makes you look well, not like a witch.”
But Anne admitted that like the majority of Brits, she is also obsessed with her looks.
Anne reflected: “We’re all obsessed with how we look. I’m guilty of this. I keep fit. I don’t like to see the scales go to nine stone. I love clothes and I always have.
“But young people are now obsessed with working out. I met this couple who are always in the gym. They don’t get p***ed. It’s all very boring.
“The young generation is setting the bar very high because of that woman Kim Kardashian. But, really, who’d want to look like Kim Kardashian?”

Gears of War movie announced

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Gears of War’ movie is in development.
Microsoft has confirmed that a film based on its hugely popular third-person shooter Xbox video game franchise is being created with the rights optioned by Universal.
Scott Stuber – whose previous credits include ‘Ted’ and ‘Central Intelligence’ – and ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ co-producer Dylan Clark are set to produce through their Universal-based Bluegrass Films.
So far, there is no director or screenwriter attached to the project and little plot details, however, Rod Fergusson – head of Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition the developers that create the ‘Gears of War’ franchise – has revealed that the film will not be based on one particular game but will a new story set in the universe.
Fergusson told Variety: “As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie. We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.
“I think you have to let the movies be the movies. They’re two different mediums, and two different audiences in some cases, and I think some video game movies in the past have failed because they tried to make a movie for gamers. If you have this great IP with a deep backstory and lots of lore that you can make interesting stories out of it’s great, but if you just go after the gaming audience then it isn’t going to be a successful movie.”
The Coalition boss also revealed that the studio will be working very closely with Universal to ensure the cannon of ‘Gears of War’ is accurately represented.
He added: “That’s one of the great things about working with Universal. We’re finding that line where we can say it has enough lore and canon that it feels genuine to the game while at the same time going beyond that and asking ‘OK what makes a great movie?'”
‘Gears of War’ originally followed the battles of commando Marcus Fenix and his team of soldiers on the planet Sera in his fight against alien race the Locust
The first game in the series was released in 2006 and has spawned three proper sequels, including the just released ‘Gears Of War 4′ which focuses on Marcus’ son J.D. Fenix’s fight to save humanity from The Locust.
The franchise has so far grossed $1 billion since 2007.

Ocean's Eight gets release date

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Ocean’s Eight’ will be released on June 8, 2018.
The all-female reboot of the movie franchise will star Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling and rapper Awkwafina and is set to start shooting in New York this month.
The first ‘Ocean’s 11’ movie was made in 1960 and saw Frank Sinatra in the title role of Danny Ocean, with his co-stars including fellow Rat Pack members Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.
Clooney took on the titular role in the 2001 movie ‘Ocean’s Eleven’, reprising the part for ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ in 2004 and ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ three years later.
And ‘Ocean’s Eight’ director Gary Ross has promised the new movie will be an “extension and a continuation” of the previous movies.
He said: “You know, Steven Soderbergh (who directed the Clooney-trilogy) and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t.
“I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation. He’s a producer on the movie.”
Although the plot has been kept under wraps, it has been reported that the film will see the girl gang undergo a heist at the Met Gala.
Meanwhile, Matt Damon, who played pickpocket Linus Caldwell alongside Clooney and Brad Pitt in the three previous ‘Ocean’s’ movies – thinks the upcoming female reboot is a great idea.

Wolverine 3 named Logan

OHMYGOSSIP — The third Wolverine movie will be called ‘Logan’.
Hugh Jackman – who will portray the clawed mutant for the eighth and final time in the upcoming film – has shared the first poster for the long-awaited new installment, featuring the title, release date of March 3 2017 and an image of his character’s hand along with a small child’s.
And the movie’s director, James Mangold, also shared a poster and also the second page from the project’s script.
The text describes Wolverine – who was born as James Howlett but is commonly known as Logan – as “older” and says it is “clear his abilities aren’t what they once were”.
Movie insiders also shared further plot details with The Wrap, explaining how the child’s hand in the poster is that of a young female mutant, who is mentored by Jackman’s character.
The film is set in 2024, when mutant births are in severe decline for an unknown reason. A government-type organisation called ‘Transigen’ are turning mutant youngsters into killing machines.
Logan is said to be depicted as looking bad, drinking a lot and having his powers fading. He heals more slowly – sometimes not at all.
And according to the source, Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is old and not well, leaving him with unstable powers and sometimes unable to even remember Logan.
Logan is assisted in caring for Professor X by Albino mutant Caliban, who is played by Stephen Merchant.
Jackman, 47, previously confirmed ‘Wolverine 3’ will be his last outing as the titular mutant, who he first portrayed in 2000’s ‘X-Men’.
He said: “It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.
“I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”

Alesha Dixon: Len is irreplaceable

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon thinks Len Goodman is irreplaceable.
The 37-year-old singer – who was a judge on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ before defecting to rival show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2012 – is still a big fan of the ballroom contest and is upset head panellist Len is departing at the end of the current series.
And despite a number of professional dancers rumoured to be in the frame to take Len’s seat, Alesha thinks Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell should simply sit on the panel as a trio.
She said: “I am so into ‘Strictly’ – it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. My time on the show is in the past but, when I watch it, I enjoy it so much and I’m proud to be part of the ‘Strictly’ story.
“It’s so sad Len is leaving. I completely understand why, but it is going to feel like the end of an era. I don’t see why they can’t just continue with the three of them.
“How can you replace Len? You can’t! That’s the point.”
This year, the 2007 ‘Strictly’ winner is hoping Laura Whitmore will scoop the glitterball trophy, having previously judged MTV contest ‘Pick Me’ – which was looking for a new presenter – in 2008, which saw the Irish star triumph.
She said: “Now Laura is on the show this year, there is even more of a reason to watch. I’ve been out with her and we’ve been dancing and she’s got rhythm, personality and energy – she’s got the lot.
“If I got the chance, I’d love to go to watch her perform live.”
Alesha is also looking forward to the 2017 series of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ as she thinks it gets better every year, even though she worries the talent will “run dry “.
She told Closer magazine: “I always worry the talent pool will run dry but I believe there are so many people that have still not auditioned for these shows, they watch the show and get inspired; you never know who will walk through the door.
“I hope the talent doesn’t run out – I’m confident it won’t.”

Bruno Tonioli 'furious' over Strictly result

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli reportedly stormed out of the studio in protest over Sunday’s (02.10.16) ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ results.
The judge was said to be furious with the decision by producers to axe the dance-off and eliminate Melvin Odoom when Anastacia was unable to perform and he allegedly fled to his car and demanded to be taken home.
A source told the Daily Star: “The studio audience had no idea about the backstage drama.”
However, Bruno soon calmed down and took his place on the panel alongside the other judges as Melvin was eliminated.
It was later revealed that Anastacia had been left in agony after she tore mastectomy scar tissue during training with her professional partner Brendan Cole.
The ‘I’m Outta Love’ hitmaker was unable to take part in the dance-off because of the injury, meaning Melvin was ejected from the show as he and his partner Janette Manrara received the fewest votes from the public.
Meanwhile Melvin and Janette have admitted they were “really sad” at the way they left the show but insisted there was no bad blood between them and the programme’s producers.
Janette said: “It’s no one’s fault.
“We love Anastacia and we love Brendan and we wish her the best for a speedy recovery.”
Melvin explained he and the brunette star were keen to show what they could do in a dance-off but said he was getting over his disappointment.
When asked how he feels now, he said: “Better. It was a really sad day over the weekend.
“It’s really sad to be in this position right now … we wanted to go out there and dance like it was our last dance on earth. Everyone has been amazing.”

Michelle Keegan to make more Our Girl

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Keegan has confirmed she will be making another series of ‘Our Girl’.
The 29-year-old actress won praise for her portrayal of Army medic Lance Corporal Georgie Lane in the BBC drama series, and following its conclusion last night (05.10.16), she has announced she will film more episodes in the new year.
She said in a statement: “I’m so happy that we’ll be back for another series as I think there’s definitely more stories to tell with Georgie.
“The reaction to the show has been overwhelming and I’m really thankful to everyone who’s watched and supported it.
“It was an amazing experience filming with such an incredible group of people and I can’t wait to do it all over again.”
The dramatic finale saw Georgie end her relationship with Jamie (Royce Pierreson) on their wedding day and choosing a return to Nufula and the Kenyan refugee camp over a reconciliation with her first love Elvis (Luke Pasqualino) but show creator Tony Grounds insists that doesn’t mean the end for either hunk.
Discussing whether Luke’s Elvis will be in season three, he said: “I think that’s a possibility.
And asked if it’s the end for Royce’s Jamie, he added: “Not necessarily… I think all three live to fight another day.”
Season one – which starred Lacey Turner – was set in Afghanistan and season two in Kenya, but it is not yet decided where the third series will take place.
Tony told RadioTimes.com: “I’m doing the research at the moment so I haven’t put my finger on the globe yet… I’m going to be looking where the natural disasters are and where the British army’s involved so I haven’t 100% chosen the place.”
And Tony would also open the door for Lacey to reprise her role as Molly Dawes, especially after Captain James (Ben Aldridge) let slip during last week’s episode that she is now his wife.
He said: “If she ever wanted to do it she’s only got to ring me up – she knows that. I think it’s all about logistics. I don’t know how ‘EastEnders’ works and we’re invariably filming abroad. But I love that Molly Dawes character.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Gillford has been booted off ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
The former teacher was sent packing on the BBC One show after failing to impress in Desserts Week with his Hipster Picnic showstopper.
Speaking after his exit, Tom said: “I think right until the moment your name’s called you kind of think, ‘Oh, it’ll be someone else.’ But I knew it was going to happen. I knew it was going to be my name.
“I would love to be in the tent right through to the end but someone has to go each week and it had to be me. There was no else it could be this week.”
Whilst judge Paul Hollywood added: “To get through to this stage in ‘The Great British Bake Off’, he should feel very proud of himself.
“This is the first time in ‘Bake Off’ history that we’ve lost the winner of Bread Week. They normally reach the finals so I do feel sorry for him. He is a great baker.”
Selasi Gbormittah nearly missed out on a place in the quarter final after Paul deemed his mini mousses were too big.
