Roger Daltrey: The Quadrophenia follow-up is a nonsense

OHMYGOSSIP — Roger Daltrey thinks plans to make a ‘Quadrophenia’ follow-up have become a “nonsense”.
The 72-year-old Who singer, whose band’s rock opera inspired the original movie, has blasted the idea of remaking the cult classic.
He said: “It’s just someone fishing to make some money. It becomes a nonsense.”
The original movie centred on the rivalry between gangs of mods and rockers in 60s Brighton.
But Roger does not think that a follow-up set in the present day would do the original movie justice.
The Who star told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “The whole point of ‘Quadrophenia’ was that it was a moment in time captured in a film.
“That moment in time is gone. It doesn’t matter what those characters are doing now. It was about what we all went through at that age.”
Earlier this year, Roger described plans to make a ‘Quadrophenia’ follow-up as “opportunist”.
He said: “It’s just a money-making exercise.
“‘Quadrophenia’ stands on its own and is an iconic film. We haven’t given this project our blessing.
“If someone wants to make a new film about mods, that’s up to them, but they can’t use our characters and trade off our creation by calling it an authorised sequel, which it is not. It seems a bit opportunist.”
The much-discussed new movie is based on Peter Meadows’ book ‘To Be Someone’, which was inspired by the original film.
It will feature Toyah Wilcox, Mark Wingett, Trevor Laird and Phil Daniels, all of whom starred in the original.

David Oyelowo calls for more diversity in UK film industry

OHMYGOSSIP — David Oyelowo believes there is a lack of opportunities for black actors in the UK.
The 40-year-old actor has called for greater diversity in the movie business, after a report by the British Film Institute revealed that 59 percent of UK films in the last ten years had no black actors in any role.
Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival’s Black Star Symposium, the ‘Selma’ star said: “The odd token thrown, the odd bone given is not going to do it.
“Don’t pat yourself on the back because you made that black drama. Bully for you. That’s not diversity. It’s got to be baked into the foundation of where the ideas flow from.”
David has moved to Los Angeles to pursue his professional ambitions. He has warned that the UK movie industry is experiencing a “talent drain” due to the lack of opportunities for black actors.
David also revealed he has considered the issue when his British actor friends have come to visit him in the US.
He said, according to the BBC: “We have sat there together, we have prayed together, we have scratched our heads together, we have felt displaced together, we have felt abandoned together. They are still here. I felt I had to leave.
“Please stop this talent drain. You have to change the demographics of the people who are making these decisions.
“You are the curators of culture. You are those who are going to shape the minds of those coming up.
“If I’d seen a film like A United Kingdom when I was leaving drama school, I don’t think I would be living in America now.”

Danniella Westbrook reveals her hacking fears

OHMYGOSSIP — Danniella Westbrook has had her emails and social media accounts hacked.
The 42-year-old actress has also accused her hacker of falsely releasing information that claims she has had a drugs relapse.
She said: “It’s not nice to think they are fixated on pretending to be me and getting access to all my private emails.
“To be honest, I’m going to go away and try and rest and relax. This whole thing is very frightening and draining.
“It’s like this stalker won’t give up until I’m run into the ground.”
Danniella – who denied she has begun using cocaine again – admitted to being spooked by someone hacking her personal accounts.
She told MailOnline: “I’m both shocked and scared about how much control this stalker/hacker has on my private emails and social media.
“I’m scared that they might come after my kids or me.”
Danniella’s comments come shortly after a post appeared on her Instagram account advising her fans not to take drugs – although it’s not clear who posted the image.
The picture was accompanied by the caption: “My number one piece of advice I would give to the younger generation is Dont do drugs!!! [sic]”
The former ‘EastEnders’ star said earlier this year that she was feeling well and was tired of being associated with her drugs past.
She explained: “Don’t be worried about me, I am not fragile. I’m sick of being talked about as a drug addict and this, that and the other.”

Reggie Yates: Idris Elba has been like my big brother

OHMYGOSSIP — Reggie Yates admits Idris Elba has been “instrumental” in his career success.
The 33-year-old TV star has revealed how the ‘Luther’ actor has mentored him since Reggie signed to his management company in 2008.
He shared: “Idris pulled me to one side eight years ago and said, ‘In America, there is this attitude and desire to be there for younger talent, and we don’t have that in the UK, so I’m going to be your big brother’.
“I was like, ‘Go right ahead!’ and within a week I was signed to his management company. Idris has been incredibly instrumental in a way that I don’t think he even appreciates himself.”
Meanwhile, Reggie has also spoken out about the lack of diversity on TV in the UK, insisting things are starting to change.
He told Metro newspaper: “A lot of us that are doing things take for granted the impact it might have.
“For instance, there are several black men and women now making factual programmes and that, for me, is huge because when I was making my first documentary, there was no one that looked like me.”
Reggie made his name in the entertainment sphere, but has switched to making hard-hitting documentaries more recently.
His latest project, ‘Life And Death In Chicago’, is one of Reggie’s most striking documentaries to date.
He shared: “It’s America’s bloodiest city. Over 500 people have died in Chicago this year alone.
“This month nine people have been shot and killed, and 44 shot and wounded. It’s one of my strangest, if not the strongest film I’ve made.”

Leah Bracknell promises to 'defy expectation' following cancer diagnosis

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Emmerdale’ star Leah Bracknell has promised to “defy expectation” after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
The 51-year-old actress was recently told that she has an incurable form of the illness, but Leah – who starred as Zoe Tate on the ITV soap from 1989 to 2005 – has insisted she will remain upbeat about her situation.
The health-conscious mother-of-two explained: “Just over 5 weeks ago, I was feeling perfectly well, fit and healthy. Teaching yoga classes and workshops, it was a time of new beginnings: preparing to move house, youngest child fleeing the nest, and excited to be starting rehearsals for a comedy play, being back onstage, going on tour.
“But, it turns out that the universe had other plans. Life was about to be unexpectedly turned on its head.
“I began to feel breathless climbing stairs … I just put it down to a bit of stress. My abdomen suddenly ballooned – and within a matter of a few days I looked heavily pregnant. I could barely walk or breathe. Then, one Saturday night at the beginning of September I ended up in A&E. (sic)”
Leah had an emergency procedure to remove excess fluid from around her heart, but has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
She said: “A fairly brutal and bleak diagnosis but one I am determined to challenge and see from the perspective of “a glass half full”, going against a lifetime of pessimism, negativity and fear!!!!
“By the way, please imagine me writing this and speaking in quite an upbeat and cheerful voice. Do NOT imagine me sitting here writing through a veil of tears. I am not. Or feeling sorry for myself. I am not (yet). (sic)”
The actress has created a fundraising page in the hope of travelling to Germany for a potentially life-saving operation.
She explained: “My priority is getting well and strong, so that I can continue to endeavour to be a good, mother, daughter, wife, or at least the best I can be.”

Alesha Dixon reveals acting ambition

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon is hoping to land a “kick-ass” acting role.
The 37-year-old star – who rose to fame with girl band Misteeq – is hoping to land some acting work, before she starts judging the new series of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
She shared: “I have been doing the acting lessons for a few months. It’s good. I do them when I can. I work one-on-one with an acting coach.”
Alesha revealed she has been inspired by Margot Robbie’s recent appearance in the ‘Suicide Squad’ movie, in which the Australian actress played the role of Harley Quinn.
The mother-of-one told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I love the idea of being in an action movie, something like Margot Robbie in ‘Suicide Squad’. A kick-ass role.
“I also love the idea of being in a musical and also dramas, TV dramas, gritty dramas. I am very open-minded, really.”
However, Alesha explained she is waiting for the right acting opportunity to present itself before she makes the move into TV and film work.
She said: “I am just waiting for that right role to come my way and yes, 100 percent, I’d love to give it a go.”
Meanwhile, Alesha also shared her thoughts on fellow ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ panellist Simon Cowell, admitting they have a “nice rapport.”
The singer – who refers to her ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judging role as a “dream job” – said: “The more we work together, the more comfortable we are with each other. It is like your work family.”

Danny Devito: Robin Williams almost killed me with laughter

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny DeVito has revealed Robin Williams almost made him drown in a swimming pool because he was laughing so hard at his madcap antics.
The 71-year-old actor-and-filmmaker was friends with the late comic star – who died in August 2014 at the age of 63 – and has recalled a time when lost his bearings in the deep end because Williams was telling so many hilarious jokes.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, the ‘Twins’ star said: “I laughed my ass off with him … He once almost killed me in a pool. I’m not a great swimmer, I was in the deep end and he was holding court, and I never laughed so hard – I swallowed a big gulp of water and choked for five minutes.”
Thankfully for DeVito he was pulled to safety but had to suffer some gentle ridicule from ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ star Williams and his other pals who were present.
He explained: “Everybody was laughing at me. It was pretty good. They did help me out of the pool. I don’t remember [the joke]. He used to go off on rants. It could be airplanes, bicycles, anything. He was such a clown and I loved him for that.”
Devito first realised he could make people laugh when he was a kid growing up in New Jersey and it was good practice for his career.
He said: “It was a very Italian-American family, like you see in the movies. There was a lot of teasing going on. It prepares your wit if you have family constantly ragging you. I recommend it with your children.”
Devito has four children, Lucy, 33, Daniel,29, Grace, 30, and Lexi, with wife Rhea Perlman, and he admits his kids still wind him up.
He said: “They gang up on me.”

Ben Affleck is still negotiating Batman budget

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck is still negotiating what budget he is going to have to spend on his Batman’ film.
The 44-year-old actor is in the process of creating a new standalone movie focused on the famous DC Comics character – who he has portrayed in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and will again in the upcoming ‘Justice League’ film – which he is writing, directing and starring in.
The film has been predicted to be released in 18 months’ time but Affleck insists there is no shooting schedule in place yet as he hasn’t finished the script and hasn’t finalised how much money he has to spend with Warner Bros. Studios who are backing the project with DC Entertainment.
In a Facebook Live interview, he said: “There is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff.”
Affleck has also clarified comments he made earlier in the week in which he suggested the title of the superhero flick will be ‘The Batman’.
The Oscar winner insists he was just thinking out loud when he made the comment and he hasn’t yet got a name in the frame.
He explained: “I mentioned it the other day … it’s been around for a long time, but the movie … And someone said, ‘What are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, back when we were promoting another movie, I was like, ‘We don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with ‘The Batman’ or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the name of his Batman movie.’ ”
It is known that Joe Manganiello will play supervillain Deathstroke in the Batman film.
Affleck will next be seen in Batman’s cape and cowl in superhero ensemble movie ‘Justice League’ along with Ezra Miller (The Flash), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).
Shooting in London wrapped on the project last weekend but there are still a few days of filming to take place in Iceland before director Zack Snyder and the team can start the editing process.

Diane Keaton to receive AFI honour

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Keaton will receive the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award next year.
The 70-year-old actress – who received an Oscar for her role in ‘Annie Hall’ and was nominated for her work on ‘Marvin’s Room’, ‘Reds’ and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ – will accept the AFI’s highest honour at a special gala that will take place in Los Angeles on June 8 2017.
Sir Howard Stringer, the chair of the AFRI Board of Trustees, said in a statement: “Diane Keaton is one of the most beloved leading ladies of American film.
“Peerless in her mastery of both comedy and drama, she has won the world’s heart time and again by creating characters of both great strength and vulnerability. Her career as a director and producer is even further evidence of her passion for the art form and her seemingly boundless talents.”
Past recipients of the accolade, which was established in 1973, include Steve Martin – who Diane serenaded when he picked up the honour last year – Jane Fonda, Mel Brooks and Shirley MacLaine.
The Life Achievement Award is presented to an individual “whose talent has in a fundamental way advanced the film art; whose accomplishment has been acknowledged by scholars, critics, professional peers and the general public; and whose work has stood the test of time”.
Diane worked with legendary filmmaker Woody Allen on ‘Annie Hall’ and a number of other movies and previously described being on set with him as a “privilege”.
She said: “He gave me everything.
“It was a privilege to be in those films with him. I’ve never seen anybody more disciplined.”
Diane also revealed what she learned from working with the New York-born movie star.
She added: “For him, work is an art form. Work really is the answer to so many problems, and it’s a form of play, too, that you take very seriously and keep trying to expand.
“That’s something I learned from Woody.”

Lee Daniels back on board for Richard Pryor biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Daniels is back on board for the Richard Pryor biopic.
The 56-year-old filmmaker previously had to step down from the directorial chair after he was unable to fit the movie into his hectic shooting schedule, but it now seems he’s made time as the project is back on track with the ‘Empire’ creator at the helm.
The biopic – entitled ‘Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said’ – will detail how the star broke into the business in the early ’60s and had become a top stand-up comedian by the early ’70s. He won five Grammy awards for his comedy albums and starred in several concert films before his untimely death in 2005 after suffering a heart attack.
Entertainment mogul Jay Z will be adding to his film credits with the project, as he’s signed up to produce.
Producer Harvey Weinstein announced on Thursday (06.10.16) that both Lee and Jay would be involved in the making of the movie.
He said in a press conference: “I can tell you that Jay is going to produce the Richard Pryor movie with Lee Daniels directing. Each time, I think you’ll see these projects be something that hit the cultural zeitgeist. One day we’ll find something really commercial now to do. But not now.”
The ‘Empire State of Mind’ musician – who joined Weinstein in the conference – added: “You don’t get more commercial [than Pryor]. His story is an American story. You’ll understand how many lives he’s touched, from every single comedian to rappers like Biggie Smalls.”
The cast for the movie had previously been announced as Mike Epps as Pryor, Oprah Winfrey as his grandmother, Eddie Murphy as his father, and Kate Hudson as Pryor’s widow Jennifer Lee Pryor.
A start date for production is set at early 2017, but no release date has been confirmed.

Len Goodman is a 'bit bossy' on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Len Goodman has been a “bit bossy” on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, according to Darcy Bussell.
The 47-year-old professional dancer – who is currently on her fifth series as a judge on the popular BBC One programme – has admitted she “admires” the 72-year-old head judge, although he can be a “bit bossy”, a trait which she puts down to his age.
Speaking about her fellow panellists on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ on Saturday (08.10.16), the former ballerina said: “It’s his age and a bit bossy but he is Head Judge. But what I admire the most is obviously his skill; he was judging way before this show even started.”
And the beauty has admitted Len likes to remind his colleagues how talented he was on the dance floor, prior to taking a seat as a critique on the show.
She said: “He [Len] was a great [dancer] and he always tells me he was really good at the lifts … He does get the best room in Blackpool.
“He is the Head Judge so all his knowledge on his ballroom and latin skills is fabulous.”
And Len, who is set to leave ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after this season, will be dearly missed.
Speaking about Len’s forthcoming departure, she said: “This is his last series, I still don’t believe he’s going to leave but yes he has announced it but maybe we could have Judge Rinder if he wins maybe. If you’re going to be head judge you’ve got to be the expert.”
And Darcy has admitted she “has a lot of fun” with Craig Revel Horwood, who has built up a reputation of being the harshest critique on the channel.
She said: “Craig isn’t as mean as he comes across. He’s horrible (on the show) and I have to beat him up on that and he doesn’t like being mean but he carries it off very well. He says I’m rubbing off on him and he sometimes gives a higher mark than he should.”
Whilst Italian choreographer Bruno Tolioni, 60, makes her “feel old”, despite being three years her senior.
Speaking about the enthusiastic television personality, she said: “His energy levels are higher than high. I feel rather old next to him actually it’s amazing, he’s so passionate about the show and all that exuberance just comes out naturally and that’s what he is like. He’s only calm when he’s smoking backstage.”

Helen Flanagan wanted car crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Flanagan fantasised about crashing her car to end her life.
The 26-year-old actress was left in a dark place after quitting ‘Coronation Street’ in January 2012 due to her battle with depression, and after stopping taking the medication she was prescribed for bipolar disorder and ADHD, she seriously considered ways for it to be “all over”.
She said: “One day I was driving into the ITV studios and I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if I just crashed my car now and it was all over?’
“I’ve suffered from depression.
“It was the main reason I had to leave ’Coronation Street’.
“I was down and it was very intense — I don’t think I was very well.”
But Helen – who recently announced she is reprising her role as Rosie Webster in ‘Corrie’ for a brief stint – has managed to turn things around and says becoming a mother to her and partner Scott Sinclair’s daughter Matilda, now 15 months, has given her a new sense of purpose.
She told The Sun newspaper: “Matilda inspires me to be the best person I can be.
“I feel like I’ve massively matured now I’ve got Matilda.
“It’s definitely changed me for the better and made me happy, because I feel that it’s given me a reason.
“Everything gets put into perspective.
“You think: ‘Well, as long as she’s healthy and alright…’ It gives a meaning to your life.”
And the brunette beauty sees a specialist every week for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and has found the sessions have really helped.
She said: “I don’t want to pass any negative energy or behaviour down to Matilda, so I’ve been seeing a therapist once a week for a while and things have really improved.
“CBT gets to the root of any problem, so I feel in a good place now.
“It’s something I will always work on, but I don’t take medication any more.”

Mario Falcone: Bullies made me get a nose job

OHMYGOSSIP — Mario Falcone claims bullies forced him to get a nose job.
The 28-year-old reality star was driven to go under the knife last month after years of negative comments from his ‘The Only Way is Essex’ co-stars James Argent and James Bennewith.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, the star said: “I broke my nose playing football when I was 11. It didn’t bother me until five years ago when Arg [James Argent] and Diags [James Bennewith] picked on me about how big it was live on ‘TOWIE’. I’m proud of my Italian heritage – our nose is supposed to be a striking feature, like David Gandy.”
And things went from bad to worse for the hunk, who revealed he has been “bullied on social media for years” because of the size of his nose, and became depressed after people compared him to cartoon characters.
He said: “But everyone jumped on the bandwagon and I was bullied on social media for years, with people setting up Twitter accounts dedicated to slagging off my nose. I got compared to Gonzo off ‘The Muppets’ and Squidward off ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’. I became so insecure about it I turned down modelling shoots, and would even pose for my own clothing range. I was unhappy and depressed.”
Mario spent £5,000 going under the knife for his rhinoplasty procedure, and whilst his girlfriend Becky Miesner loves the results, the recovery process has taken a toll on their love life.
He said: “My girlfriend said my nose was fine before, but said I’ve gone from a 9.5 to a 10. I’m so paranoid about breaking it again though – my girlfriend elbowed me in bed one night and I went mental. Now I put a pillow barrier up between us in bed. We have a five minute-cuddle, then it’s lights off, pillow up.”

Beverley Callard gets her first tattoo

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ star Beverley Callard has got her first tattoo at the age of 59.
The actress – who is best known for her role as Liz McDonald in the ITV soap – has got the inking as a tribute to her husband Jon McEwan, with the tattoo featuring tragedy and comedy masks over a music score, as well as the date they tied the knot back in 2010.
Beverley captioned the image on her Twitter account: “Inked today xx. (sic)”
The actress had the inking done shortly after she revealed her psychiatrist believes she has bipolar.
She previously said: “My psychiatrist at present, he is convinced that I am bipolar too. He is convinced of it. The way he explained it to me is that I don’t get these amazing highs or hallucinations.
“But I get the tremendous lows. I don’t get the good bits I get the bad bits. But now I am much more even and relaxed.”
In March, Beverley was signed off work for two months when she fell into a deep depression while shooting scenes for ‘Coronation Street’.
She recalled: “I was completely suicidal. I couldn’t leave the house. I didn’t leave the bedroom. I wouldn’t take calls.”

Porridge to return for full series

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Bishop’s ‘Porridge’ remake has been commissioned for a full series.
The 36-year-old actor starred in a successful pilot episode of the comedy spin-off – which featured him as Nigel ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, the grandson of Ronnie Barker’s iconic character Norman Stanley Fletcher – and will extend the role in a six-part series.
The BBC1 show will see Fletch behind bars in Wakeley Prison after committing a number of cyber crimes, and though the full cast list has yet to be announced, Mark Bonnar is expected to return from the pilot as Officer Meekie, along with Ralph Ineson and Dave Hill as inmates Richie Weeks and Joe Lotterby respectively.
Original ‘Porridge’ writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais will be penning the script for the new series.
They said in a statement: “We’re in a state of disbelief that Porridge is coming back after all these years but Kevin Bishop is a worthy successor to Ronnie Barker. So even though we feel like recidivists, we’re more than happy to go back inside.”
Kevin is incredibly proud that the one-off episode has been extended for a full series.
He said: “It was an honour to be asked to play Fletch although I never thought it would go further than just the one off homage. To be welcomed back by Porridge fans and the BBC to make a full series, is one of the proudest moments in my career. Dick and Ian are true sitcom masters and I know they’re going to write a brilliant series.”
The pilot episode aired as part of BBC’s Landmark Sitcom Season, which celebrated 60 years of comedy series on the network, and ‘Motherland’ – one of the new shows which featured – has also been commissioned for a six-part BBC 2 series.
Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning said: “The Landmark Sitcom Season was a big, celebratory moment for BBC comedy and signaled our unrivalled commitment to the art form.
“With ‘Porridge’ we have two writing legends putting a modern spin on their masterpiece, proving that their fingers are very much still on the comedy pulse. In ‘Motherland’ we have the wish list writing powerhouse giving us a painfully accurate yet fresh take on the relentless emotional carnage of child-rearing.”

Laura Whitmore reveals her Strictly Come Dancing injuries

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore has taken to Twitter to reveal the extent of her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ injuries.
The 31-year-old blonde beauty has posted a picture of the bruises she has suffered on her arms while practising with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice.
Alongside images of her painful-looking bruises, Laura wrote: “I’ve always known I bruise like a peach … But this is ridiculous.”
The post prompted a speedy reply from professional dancer Gorka Marquez, who said: “thats normal when u dance with @pernicegiovann1. (sic)”
Giovanni then replied: “Irish white skin guys!!! It’s not my fault #justsaying. (sic)”
This comes shortly after Gleb Savchenko bet £100 Giovanni will look to romance Laura on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Russian dancer – who appeared on the show last year – isn’t surprised the Italian hunk has split from actress Georgia May Foote, who he met on the programme in 2015.
Gleb is convinced he’ll now try his luck with the blonde presenter.
He said: “I’m not shocked [he’s split with Georgia]. He’s young and he’s Italian. You know what Italians are like! They were never going to get married, have kids and live happily ever after.
“I bet you £100 Giovanni will get with Laura this year. And next season I’ll bet you another £100 he will get with his new partner!”
