Stephen Merchant had to shave eyebrows for Logan

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Merchant was surprised when he didn’t get asked to bulk up for his role in new Wolverine movie ‘Logan’ and was not happy when he had to shave his hair and eyebrows off.
The 41-year-old British actor plays Caliban opposite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the third standalone movie about the metal-clawed superhero and X-Men member and as it is an action film he expected to have to get in top shape for the part.
However, Merchant was told his thin frame was what 20th Century Fox was looking for and to stay the same, just lose all of his hair.
In an interview on ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, he said: “I play a giant albino mutant, it’s type casting. I had to shave my head for the role. To be honest there aren’t a lot of pale-faced, stick thin men in Hollywood so it was either me or they would have done CGI!”
Speaking about shaving his hair and eyebrows off, he added: “It was annoying when I was doing it, I kept asking the producers if I could go out into the real world just for fun, just to go into an old people’s home with a scythe and just point … When they said I was going to be in it I thought I was going to be an X Man. I was like ‘Do you need me down the gym? What time do you need me there?’ They were like, ‘We just need you in the barbers at nine.’ ”
Caliban’s special power is that he can sense and track other mutants.
Merchant believes his less than exciting ability and strange appearance means the toy that is going to be made of the character is heading to the bargain bin.
He said: “I play a character called Caliban whose mutant power is that I can locate other mutants. I’m basically a glorified truffle pig. It’s the action figure that isn’t going to sell great.”
Merchant and Jackman also star in the movie – based on the Marvel comic book characters – alongside Sir Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, Richard E. Grant as Zander Rice and Boyd Holbrook as Donald Pierce.
‘The Jonathan Ross Show’ airs at 21:50 on ITV1 on Saturday (29.10.16).

Mary Berry's GBBO replacement found?

OHMYGOSSIP — Mary Berry could be replaced by Linda Evans on ‘Great British Bake Off’.
The 81-year-old culinary queen broke hearts across the country when she announced she was leaving the cooking show after it was sold to Channel 4 and ‘Dynasty’ star Linda, 73, is in the running to take over.
A source told The Sun: “Linda is a massive baking fan and is open to the idea.
“Following Mary is a tough act but she’s a huge name and a TV legend in her own right.
“She gets asked to do a lot of things but refuses most, but this is something that has caught her eye.”
A Love Productions source told the publication: “No formal approaches have been made yet.”
Meanwhile, Mary recently revealed she will work with Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc on a new show following the trio’s decision to bow out of the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
She said: “We will do something because we’re good pals, and who knows what it would be? We haven’t been approached yet, but we would love to do something together. I love their humour.”
Although the threesome are yet to sign up to their next project, it’s believed bosses at the BBC are hoping to get them on board their forthcoming culinary programme, which has the working title ‘The Big Family Cooking Challenge’, for the beginning of 2017.
Mary announced she was leaving her judging role behind after she found out that the ‘GBBO’ was moving across to Channel 4 after they outbid the BBC, which has screened the show since 2010, to the rights in a deal worth an estimated £75 million.
Mary said: “It was a gut feeling. It was gut feeling and I made it straight away to myself, having discussed it with my family and others. I’m really happy I’ve stayed with the BBC. Everything I’ve ever done really has been with the BBC and I wanted to be with them.”
However, not everyone is staying with the BBC as Mary’s co-judge Paul Hollywood has decided to follow the show over to Channel 4 when it makes its switch later this year.

Darren Jeffries returning to Hollyoaks

OHMYGOSSIP — Darren Jeffries is returning to ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 34-year-old star is to reprise his role as Sam “O.B.” O’Brien on the Channel 4 show after eight years away, and he admitted returning to the set felt as though he had never left.
He said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to bring O.B back to Hollyoaks village.
“I still can’t believe it’s been over eight years since I left the show, it feels like I’ve never been away.”
O.B. has a big part to play on his return to the village as he is set to team up with Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) and Grace Black (Tamara Wall) in a bid to track down the missing Osborne family.
Darren added: “If anyone can get to the bottom of where the Osbornes are it’s him.”
The character will first be seen on screen in the week beginning November 14.
Darren is no stranger to big storylines having been involved in a number during his first spell in ‘Hollyoaks’, which began in June 1997.
One of his most memorable plotlines came when he saved his best friend Max Cunningham (Matt Littler) from being murdered by his evil wife Claire Devine (Gemma Bissix).
Sadly, Max was finally killed prompting O.B. to leave the Hollyoaks village for London, where his ex-girlfriend Summer Shaw (Summer Strallen) landed a part in West End musical ‘The Sound of Music’.
This led to a famous cross-over episode featuring Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber.
As well as winning numerous fans during his on-screen bromance with Matt, the pair also picked up the Best Onscreen Partnership prize at the 2008 British Soap Awards.

Warner Bros working on Sherlock Holmes 3 script

OHMYGOSSIP — Warner Bros have put together a writing team for ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’.
The studio is keen to get the movie – starring Robert Downey Jr as the titular British detective with Jude Law as Dr John Watson – off the ground and has enlisted some top talent to get the script in shape.
Variety reports that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ writer Nicole Perlman, ‘Baywatch’s Justin Malen, ‘Rogue One’s Gary Whitta, ‘Tomb Raider’s Geneva Dworet-Robertson and ‘Snowden’ screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald are all working on the script.
Meanwhile, Robert recently insisted he “can’t wait” to make ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ as he loves working with director Guy Ritchie and co-star Jude.
He said: “We’re talking about it right now. Now! I can’t wait. We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype we could have done it in a week. I know Guy Ritchie loves me as much as I love him – and he damn well should. When we’re making those ‘Sherlock’ movies it is off the hook. We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m excited about it.”
Downey, who stars as Iron Man / Tony Stark in the Marvel ‘Avengers’ franchise, is always itching for fresh acting challenges but admits he has to limit his work schedule in order to keep a balance between his career and his private life.
The Hollywood superstar – who is married to producer Susan Downey and has three children from two relationships – said: “I’ll get a little itchy here and there. But [the Marvel Universe] makes such a big splash that it keeps the pulse of any relevance going. Truth be told, I like working, but there’s so many things I like to do. I have kids. I’m a martial artist. I’ve been working since I was a kid, so sometimes I do get itchy, but I get a week off and it’s pleasant. It’s a manageable schedule.”

Jeremy Irons confirms The Batman for summer 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Irons has confirmed ‘The Batman’ will start shooting next summer.
The 68-year-old actor plays the titular superhero’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’, and revealed his character will have a big part to play in Ben Affleck’s forthcoming film.
When asked if Alfred will feature more prominently in ‘Justice League’ than he did in ‘Batman v Superman’, he said: “Similar, but then, of course, Ben’s going to make a Batman film next summer.
“He promises me there’s going to be a bit more of Alfred in that. In the Justice League we have seven major lead characters and I’m the butler to one of them. It’s clear I will not be dominating that film.”
Irons admits he doesn’t enjoy shooting huge movies as much as smaller films because he spends most of his time doing publicity or waiting around.
Quizzed on whether he finds bigger films such as ‘Batman v Superman’ as fulfilling as smaller projects, he added: “Less so, because they’re so slow.
“There’s a lot of waiting around and then a huge amount of publicity. One spends 70% of the time doing publicity, 10 per cent of the time filming, and 20 per cent of the time waiting.
“I love working with Ben [Affleck] and Zack Snyder. They’ve been fun.”
Irons admits he wasn’t bothered by some of the harsh ‘Batman v Superman’ reviews and was just pleased to see plenty of people turned up to watch the movie.
He added to Variety: “I was very pleased by the numbers. Zack seems to get a hard time from the press, which is strange. I don’t know if it has to do with the sort of secrecy that surrounds the making of it all. But the audience liked it, which in the end is all that matters.”

Amy Childs has a beard

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Childs has grown a beard.
The 26-year-old reality TV star is three months pregnant with her first child and, although she hasn’t been struck down with the dreaded morning sickness like the majority of women just yet, she’s not excluded from the usual pregnancy symptoms as she’s battling with a fluffy face and thicker locks over the past few weeks.
She explained: “I’ve been off my food, my boobs have been so sore and I’ve got hairier – I’ve got a full on beard! Brad [Wright, her boyfriend] noticed it the other day. Although I don’t want to eat, Brad is making me eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’m just craving jelly tots.”
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ beauty may have six months left until she’s due to meet her little bundle of joy, but she’s already decided she wants to give birth to the baby in hospital.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I definitely don’t want a home birth. I want a water birth. Brad will be amazing during the birth because he’s really calm, but when I had a blood test he had to walk out of the room.”
The couple – who have been together since 2014 but split briefly when Brad went to prison for five months after he was found guilty of handling stolen goods – are keen to find out what sex their little one is and are already convinced they’re having a baby boy.
Amy said: “I’m 95 per cent sure it’s a boy. It’d be nice to have a boy because we’re surrounded by baby girls in our family. We might announce it at a spectacular baby shower, which is going to be in late February. I’m desperate for a Silver Cross pram like the Duchess of Cambridge’s.”

Professor Green wouldn't date Vicky Pattison

OHMYGOSSIP — Professor Green would never date Vicky Pattison because what happened on her reality TV show ‘Geordie Shore’ was “grubby”.
The ‘Read All About It’ hitmaker absolutely loves being in the company of the brunette beauty but he doesn’t think he could strike up a relationship with her because of some of the wild things she and her castmates did on the MTV show.
Speaking during a Facebook Q&A with The Sun Online, he said: “She’s from ‘Geordie Shore’, I met her in Newcastle – obviously – and she was really sweet. Someone had been rude about my ex [Millie Mackintosh] and she said if she saw them she’d knocked them out, which I found quite sweet. That said, there was a lot of grubby stuff that happened on ‘Geordie Shore’. I don’t think I could date anyone from that show.”
However, although he’s currently single, the 32-year-old rapper – whose real name is Stephen Manderson – would like to find someone to settle down with and have children.
He explained: “I would like to have children. That doesn’t mean if you go on a date with someone, you want to impregnate them. I don’t, generally. When I go on a date with someone, it’s not the first thing I think about. Actually, I often think about not impregnating them or catching anything. Always have safe sex.”
Pro Green hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to love recently as he was left heartbroken earlier this year when his wife Millie Mackintosh called time on their three-year marriage and swiftly got back together with her ex-boyfriend Hugo Taylor.
He said recently: “You know, I’m not Adele. I’m not going to make a heartbreak album. I’m much more focused on looking forward.”

Mukai Noiri fired from The Apprentice

OHMYGOSSIP — Mukai Noiri has been fired from ‘The Apprentice’.
The 35-year-old digital marketing manager has become the fourth contestant to be given the boot by big boss Lord Sugar as the tycoon didn’t believe he had what it takes to be his future business partner after his team Nebula failed to pull in the most sales.
Speaking to the fashion expert in the boardroom following their heated debate, Lord Sugar said: “Mukai, you’re well-travelled, you’ve been around the world and you’ve lived in six continents. I feel when you talk to me, it’s as if I’m listening to a consultant dishing out advice but never actually doing anything themselves. I don’t think you have the potential of being my business partner. Mukai, you’re fired.”
Mukai – who was made the leader of the sub team – started off the task full of confidence when he found out they were going to the flash department stall Liberty of London to introduce a new product line to promote and sell in the store.
The intelligent hunk went in all guns blazing and persuaded his Project Manager, Grainne McCoy, to stick with his idea of selling expensive leather handbags, while the other team Titan – led by Sofiane Khelfa – opted for well-known cat scarves.
However, it wasn’t just about producing and selling their pieces as they also had to receive high marks on their personal shopping experience.
Although Mukai was happy to throw himself into the producing section of the task, he took a backseat when it came to Sales Day, which led to his team pulling in £4,370.99.
Team Titan, on the other hand, didn’t do much better when it came to the overall experience but did manage to cash in an impressive amount of £5,259.38.
Once Nebula learnt they were the losing team, Grainne decided to bring Mukai and Karthik Nagesan back into the boardroom to face the billionaire businessman.
Lord Sugar told Grainne: “Grainne, in this particular task, you were the project manager, you put yourself forward as somebody that knows about retail. The big mistake was that you went with these handbags and you were influenced by other people.”

Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger told he couldn't be leading man

OHMYGOSSIP — Arnold Schwarzenegger was told he couldn’t be a leading man in movies because of his Austrian accent.
The ‘Terminator’ actor was presented with the Adweek 2016 Brand Visionary Award at a ceremony at the Rainbow Room in New York on Tuesday night (25.10.16) and on accepting the honour he spoke of his aspirations as young man to become a Hollywood star.
He recalled how he was told he’d never make it in Tinseltown because he looked like a “monster” due to the incredible physique he attained for his competitive bodybuilding career, and his strong accent was also identified as a stumbling block on the road he wanted to follow.
During his acceptance speech, Schwarzenegger – who was born in Thal, Styria – said: “I had this vision of becoming a leading man like Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson or Warren Beatty and I wanted to get into movies. So I started looking for agents and producers an studio executives and they all laughed at me. They said, Are you crazy? This is the 70s, Dustin Hoffman is the star, Al Pacino is the star, Woody Allen. They are the sex symbols of the 70s. Look at you, you have a 250 pound body, you look like a monster compared to those guys. Plus your accent.”
The 69-year-old star – who served two terms as the 38th Governor of California from 2003 until 2011 – wanted to be a bodybuilder from the age of 15 and would frantically lift weights to turn his dream into a reality, eventually becoming a seven-time Mr. Olympia champion.
He explained: “I saw myself very clearly, and I was so convinced that if I started training up to five hours a day like a fanatic, believing, that one day I will get there.
“When people saw me working out five hours a day, smiling, having a great time they all thought this guy must be crazy … but I couldn’t wait to lift another 500 pounds, I couldn’t wait to do 100 chin ups, I couldn’t wait to do another 1,000 sit ups because every day, every step of the way, every weight I lifted was taking me one step closer to turning this vision into a reality.”

Great British Bake Off Val Stones will jet off on a baking trip to Ayia Napa

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Great British Bake Off’ Val Stones is set to jet off on a baking trip to Ayia Napa.
The 66-year-old contestant – who was the fifth person to be booted off the BBC One baking show during Pastry Week on September 21 – is rumoured to be travelling to the popular party destination in Cyprus for a cooking vacation.
This news was announced at the end of Wednesday’s (26.10.16) finale updating viewers on all of the contestant’s plans for the future.
And this season’s champion Candice Brown has revealed she plans to link up with runner up Jane Beedle and embark on a road trip, which will see the duo travel to new destinations and discover new delicacies, continue their passion for baking and tuck into their tasty treats.
However, they aren’t the only ones to hit the road in the aftermath of the show, which is set to move to Channel 4 for the next series, as Selasi Gbormittah plans to drive off into the sunset on his motorbike.
And last night’s episode meant the end of the partnership between the shows hosts Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, who have both judged the tray bakes and showstoppers since 2010.
Although the 81-year-old culinary queen, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have decided to quit the popular programme out of “loyalty” to the BBC when it switches channel, the blue-eyed silver fox has revealed he hopes to remain friends with his co-stars, despite agreeing a mega-money three-year deal to move with the show.
Speaking previously, Paul, 50, said: “I’ve known Mary for 12 years and I’ll always be mates with her.
“In fact, she phoned me up yesterday saying, ‘Where are you?’ because normally I pop in to see her and I haven’t seen her in a couple of weeks.
“I think for me, when they picked me to do the job seven years ago, I was really shocked that I was given the chance to do this programme.
“To see it grow over the years. I just couldn’t walk away from my job. I think it comes down to I love doing my job. I love evangelising about baking and passing the word on and I will carry on doing that.”

Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe wept learning Mercedes would lose baby

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Metcalfe was a “blubbering mess” when she read the scripts for her character’s stillbirth scene in ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 33-year-old actress cried her eyes out for the first time in two years when she learned her alter ego Mercedes McQueen would tragically lose her baby but, despite her tears, she found the gripping storyline hugely “rewarding” to act out.
Asked about the challenges of playing Mercedes, Jennifer recalled the stillbirth and the writer who penned the story from firsthand experience and said: “The writer had been through a similar experience herself. I read all the five episodes together on my couch. I hadn’t cried in two years, cut to two hours later I’m just this blubbering mess and I have this lump in my throat. It was so touching and so real.
“We worked together with lots of amazing charities that brought some realism to the story. It was really difficult to film and really challenging, but also so rewarding.”
Jennifer – who has played the troublesome tart with a heart since 2006 – added it was draining putting herself in Mercedes’ shoes but the reaction from fans on social media made it one of her best career moments to date.
During a chat with her cast mates Jamie Lomas and Anna Passey with BUILD, she added: “To go in every day and put yourself in that position and feel those emotions, it’s tiring and draining but the reward is fantastic. When you hear on Twitter everybody’s feedback that have been through similar experiences and they say that you did a really good job and you hit the emotion, it’s really overwhelming.”

Professor Green won't date 'grubby' Vicky Pattison

OHMYGOSSIP — Professor Green would never date Vicky Pattison because she’s too “grubby.”
The ‘Read All About It’ hitmaker absolutely loves being in the company of the former ‘Geordie Shore’ star but he doesn’t think he could strike up a relationship with her because some of the sexual things she partook in on the show were pure vulgar.
Benedict Cumberbatch teases Doctor Strange will unite Avengers in Infinity War

OHMYGOSSIP — Benedict Cumberbatch has teased Doctor Strange will unite the divided Avengers in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. The 40-year-old star believes his character which he has just brought to life on the big screen in the eponymous movie will unify warring superheroes Captain America and Iron Man and their fractured supporters in the forthcoming adventure.

Asked whose side Doctor Strange will be on when he meets the other characters – who came to blows in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ – in in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he said: “I think [Doctor Strange] has to be Team Doctor Strange. His job title is defender of the fabric of reality. I mean, he fights other dimensional threats that are beyond the perceptions of that very potent squabble and I’d like to think he’s going to help them both, rather than take sides.”

‘Doctor Strange’ stars Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Mads Mikkelsen as Strange’s arch nemesis Kaecilius but the characters won’t be following Cumberbatch into the next movie and he’s looking forward to working with Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and teased that Doctor Strange will create a new storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He told Yahoo Movies: “The character list gets a little heavier and you’re working with some legends of the screen let alone iconic characters. So that’ll be a lot of fun.

“Doctor Strange is there to provide the opening of a new chapter, it’s literally going to open up the dimensions, so just when that frame got a little crowded, it’s got a whole lot bigger.”
In the end credits of ‘Doctor Strange’, the Sorcerer Supreme meets with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and discusses helping him and his adoptive brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) find their father Odin (Sir Antony Hopkins).

Julian Fellowes finishes Downton Abbey script

OHMYGOSSIP — Julian Fellowes has finished the script for the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie. Joanne Froggatt – who portrayed Anna Smith in the period drama for five years – has revealed the creator has penned the script for the forthcoming blockbuster but none of the cast have seen it or been approached about starring in the film just yet.

Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Thursday (27.10.16), she said: “We’ve all heard this rumour – the cast – that the script has been written.
“There’s a hard copy somewhere but none of us have seen it or know what’s in it. So we’ll all keep our fingers crossed that it all comes together. We’re all willing it to happen. I’d absolutely jump at the chance to star in it if I’m asked. I’ll squeeze it in.”

However, although the script is still a mystery, Michael Fox – who portrayed Andy Parker in the series – confirmed that Dame Maggie Smith will reprise her role as Violet Crawley when the blockbuster eventually hits the big screen some time in the future.

He said recently: “She elevates it to something else, because she is such a legend and a national treasure. The film without her would still be good with all the other actors, but it puts a stamp of quality with her in it.”

Viewers were thrown into mourning last Christmas when ‘Downton…’ came to a dramatic end following five years on screen but creator Julian has always shared his burning desire to turn the drama into a film one day.

However, the 67-year-old director hinted that he was waiting on vital cast members – believed to be Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery – to free up their schedules.

He said recently: “Let’s just say it’s not me slowing things down. The difficulty is rounding up the actors. One is in America making a new series, another is in a play … My lips are sealed! It’s very unlikely there won’t be a film because there is an audience out there for it. I do hope there is going to be a ‘Downton Abbey’ film. It’s going to be fun once everything is sorted but we just need to restructure it.”
It’s believed filming for the movie will kick off next year.

Lupita Nyong’o: Superhero film was on my bucket list

OHMYGOSSIP — Lupita Nyong’o was beyond thrilled to be cast in ‘Black Panther’ as a superhero film was on her “bucket list”. The 33-year-old actress recently nabbed the part of Wakandan special forces warrior Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard, in the upcoming Marvel movie and she couldn’t be happier to fulfil her ambition.

She said: “(Playing a superhero) was on my bucket list. I definitely believe that if something is meant for me, it will come to be. But that doesn’t make me passive. It is about holding on tightly and letting go lightly.”

Filming on the Ryan Coogler directed blockbuster kicks off in January with Lupita starring alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa – who becomes the Black Panther after his father, the king of the fictional African nation Wakanda, is assassinated – and Michael B. Jordan as main villain Erik Killmonger. Her character Nakia could also be set for a villainous turn as in the comic book series she becomes Malice, one of Killmonger’s mutated allies in his fight for the throne of Wakanda.

Lupita – who became the first Mexican/Kenyan actress to win an Academy Award when she scooped the Best Actress Oscar in 2013 for her incredible performance in ’12 Years A Slave’ – has thanked her mother for spending time with her as a child to help her figure out her dreams.

In an interview with the Metro newspaper, she said: “I am a Pisces, which makes me a very indecisive person, but I have a Capricorn for a mother, so she is always Miss Planner. Every school holiday she had us create dream charts – we’d look at our lives and think about what we would want in the short, id and long term. It was so tedious at the time! Now I realise how useful it was to dream out loud.”
Lupita will be seen next in Disney’s ‘Queen of Katwe’ with David Oyelowo and is delighted the role sheds a light on Africa as she knows it.
She added: “I love the idea of telling a story where the Africans are front and centre of their own narrative. All too often, especially on larger-scale films, we see Africa as a backdrop to itself. This film reflects an Africa I recognise from my upbringing.”
