Alicia Vikander hits out at female identity in big films

OHMYGOSSIP — Alicia Vikander insists ideas of women in big films make her “snore”.
The 28-year-old actress is to portray Lara Croft in the forthcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ movie – replacing Angelina Jolie – and she has assured fans the motion picture will be about “relationships and stories” in contrast to the ideas of how females should be portrayed in some mega movies.
She said: “I’ve read a lot of scripts, and ideas of women in these big films just make me f****ing – excuse my language – snore and go, ‘Come on, aren’t we past this?'”
It is known that the upcoming film will tell the story of archaeologist-adventurer Lara’s start in life, and Vikander revealed her alter-ego will live in a modest east London abode rather than in a huge mansion as she does on the popular video game series.
She said: “It’s [about] a girl living in east London.
“[The film will tell] the story of her becoming who we know her as.”
The brunette beauty also admitted the motion picture passes the Bechdel Test – a ratings system which asks if a work of fiction features at least two female characters who speak to each other about a subject other than a guy.
She added to The Times newspaper: “It actually passes the test.”
Vikander previously admitted she is “excited” to take on the “iconic” role.
She said: “I mean, for me, I’m so excited to do it. She was such an icon, I played the game when I was a kid, but they rebooted the game a few years ago so it is now becoming more of an origins story. So it’s quite different.”
Jolie previously brought Croft to life on the big screen in 2001’s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and then again in ‘Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life’ in 2003.
Few details have been revealed about the forthcoming film’s plot, but the last two video games in the series – the latest being 2015’s ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ – have focused on Lara at the start of her adventures.

Jennifer Aniston broke T.J. Miller's ribs on Christmas Office Party set

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston broke T.J. Miller’s ribs while getting in character for ‘Christmas Office Party’.
The 47-year-old actress and the 35-year-old star had an “immediate chemistry” on the set of the forthcoming film when she got heavy handed with the actor, causing his body some damage as a result.
He said: “The second I met Jen, if I can call you Jen, she immediately put me in a headlock.
“And then did a very strange pile-driver move, and my rib cage was broken. So it was sort of an immediate chemistry, I thought.”
The pair play brother and sister, Carol Vanstone (Aniston) and Clay (Miller), in the movie which sees the ‘Friends’ star’s CEO alter-ego attempt to close down the Christmas party at the Chicago branch of her company, which is run by her sibling.
But it results in the staff staging a wild bash to try to impress a potential client.
The movie featured 350 extras who were told to improvise throughout the scenes, but one pair took the instruction too far by mocking oral sex, resulting in Olivia Munn having to re-shoot part of the film.
She explained: “We don’t have much time to shoot these things. We come out and we shoot it four or five times, great, let’s move on. Wait … stop, stop, go back.
“There was a couple, they’re extras, and she was up on a filing cabinet and his head was between her legs and that’s what they decided to improv because they were told to do whatever they want.”
But Miller insisted the extras were the “most important part” of the motion picture because they had to film countless dancing scenes without music.
Speaking at Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest in Los Angeles, he added: “I want to be very clear that the background artists were the most important part of this film.
“They were dancing in the background, with no music, for 12 hours, a day, for weeks and weeks. Just silence.”

Sir David Attenborough thinks about death

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Attenborough thinks about dying every day.
The 90-year-old presenter – who lost his brother Richard Attenborough two years ago just days before his 91st birthday – has admitted he can’t help but think about his own mortality on a daily basis but, despite his fears, he has no plans to retire just yet.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: “Not in a morbid kind of way but I suppose in an observational kind of way.
“I have no intention of retiring, as long as I can do the job and anybody wants me to. Who wouldn’t go on? It is a joy and a huge privilege.”
David is set to bound back on to screens next month with ‘Planet Earth II’ – 10 years after his first ‘Planet Earth’ series – and, although the opening scene sees him two miles above the Swiss Alps in a hot air balloon, he found the experience a “doddle.”
He explained: “It’s a doddle. You get in this laundry basket – it is perfect for the job because it is light and strong and pliable, so it doesn’t shatter when you land.
“When you get in, you start talking and suddenly realise you are 50ft up because there is no noise and no wind, so there is nothing to tell you that you are moving. Once you get up there you just sit there and think, ‘This is great.’ ”
Although he has no plans to retire, the naturalist’s producer Anthony Geffin – who has worked with him for seven years – believes the veteran’s last series ‘The Great Barrier Reef’ may be the last “proper” documentary he does.
He said recently: “In a way I feel this one is the last of what I call ‘on-the-road’ David Attenboroughs. That does not mean this is his last film, because he’ll top and tail films, and he’ll do narrations forever. But I think the idea of taking Attenborough … for a year to two years on a project where he’s involved intensely and goes on locations a lot – I think at 90, that can’t go on forever.”

Gifty Louise felt like Fifth Harmony 'tribute act'

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The X Factor’s Gifty Louise thought she was being turned into a Fifth Harmony “tribute act.”
The 20-year-old wannabe singer – who was given the boot from the competition on Sunday (30.10.16) after she lost in the sing-off against Four of Diamonds – has slammed her mentor Simon Cowell for pushing her to perform another song by the girl group, who won ‘The X Factor USA’ in July 2012, for the third week in a row in last weekend’s show.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ on Monday (31.10.16), she said: “When I first got the song, I was a bit iffy about it. I felt like, ‘Well if I were to sing this song, it would be the third Fifth Harmony song I would have sung’, so a lot of people would start to think I’m some sort of a tribute act.”
Although the star is convinced the 57-year-old show boss was to blame for her departure this weekend, Gifty is “quite upset” with Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger because they gave her a standing ovation when she performed before then giving her the axe.
She explained: “I was quite upset with Sharon and Nicole’s decision because I felt they gave me a standing ovation and then they turned around and got rid of me. I worked so hard.”
Gifty didn’t have the easiest time in the sing-off as Simon accidentally attempted to send her home during the judges’ decision after he rushed his decision in the heat of the moment.
When host Dermot O’Leary asked who he was choosing to be eliminated, Simon quickly said: “Gifty,” before he backtracked and apologised to the audience for his slip up.
He added: “OK, rewind. The act I’m sending home… God… Four Of Diamonds.”

GBBO's Candice Brown to get own cooking show

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner Candice Brown is to front her own cooking show.
The series champion – who is known for her bright lipsticks and killer heels – is reportedly in talks with bosses about hosting her own road trip programme with fellow finalist Jane Beedle as TV executives are keen to continue their friendship on screen.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “Their friendship was the highlight of the show. Producers can’t wait to sign them up for their own programme, which would be a lovely mixture of age and experience.”
And it seems bosses could be just be in luck as the 31-year-old star recently admitted that she and Jane were planning to jump in a car and head to France for a holiday.
Asked what her plans are now that she’s won the show, she said: “Jane goes to France quite a lot and we were saying we should get in a car and just go.”
And Jane appears to be on the same wavelength as every one else, as she is convinced she and Candice will end up becoming a “double act” one day.
Meanwhile, it seems bosses at the BBC are determined to do all they can to keep a culinary show on the channel after they lost the rights to the ‘GBBO, which they’ve screened since 2010, to rival Channel 4 at the beginning of last month.
The shock move, which was secured after Channel 4 reportedly slapped down a three-year deal worth an estimated £75 million, has now spelled the end for judging duo Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, who have both given their verdict on tray bakes for six years.
The 81-year-old culinary queen announced she was leaving her role out of “loyalty” to the BBC a few weeks ago, while the silver fox, 50, decided to accept the cash and go.
Although she’s decided to walk away from the popular programme, Mary and hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc – who also decided to quit hours after Channel 4 snapped up the rights – are reportedly being lined up for their own baking show.

James May nearly died filming The Grand Tour

OHMYGOSSIP — James May nearly died filming ‘The Grand Tour’.
The 53-year-old TV presenter came close to death in Venice, Italy, when he almost drowned, and admitted the star feared he was about to meet his maker because he had “run out of strength” to swim to safety.
He said: “I thought I would drown. I couldn’t get out of the slippery thing.
“I had completely run out of strength.”
James’ co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “Everyone managed to get into their cars but somehow James slipped.”
The star didn’t have the best of luck during filming as while he managed to escape the dangerous waters, he was also left “genuinely scared” shooting scenes in the Namibian desert because of the hot conditions.
Despite managing to survive, James’ arm wasn’t so lucky during one stage of filming when he broke it falling out of a pub.
Producer Andy Wilman recently explained: “James fell over the night before filming, coming out of a pub.
“He rang me up and said, ‘I’ve broken my arm.’ His car was automatic so we stuck him on Eurostar, pumped him full of drugs and left him to it.
“[James] did more damage to it because he had to keep on going but he’s falling to bits anyway. We are not in Usain Bolt territory with that body.”
Jeremy, James, fellow presenting partner Richard Hammond and the production team have been filming the show on location across the globe, with parts of ‘The Grand Tour’ shot in front of an audience inside a giant travelling tent.
The programme will launch on Amazon Prime Video on November 18 and new episodes will be released every Friday.
The trio previously presented motoring show ‘Top Gear’ but Jeremy was axed following a fracas with a producer, and James and Richard subsequently quit.

Eddie Redmayne's grandma expected wizarding role

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Redmayne’s grandma “always knew” he’d play a wizard.
The 34-year-old actor – who portrays magizoologist Newt Scamander in upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ – was “obsessed with magic” when he was young and so his latest role came as no surprise to his family.
He said: “here was this amazing shop called Davenports–the kind of shop where real magicians buy their tricks, the sort of place where you could buy the equipment to saw someone in half.
“It had a very ‘Potter’ vibe, actually–it was in this slightly grotty subway beneath Charing Cross station in London.
“When I got cast in this film, my grandma was like, ‘I always knew you could play a wizard.’ She was thrilled.”
Despite playing a diverse range of characters over the last few years, the ‘Danish Girl’ actor insists he has a “really shoddy” imagination, which is why his alter egos are often inspired by people in the real world.
He told United Airlines’ Rhapsody magazine: “I just have a really shoddy imagination.
“I remember once trying to invent a bedtime story for my niece and nephew, and it was like … and … umm … the end!”
And Eddie’s interactions with the mythical creatures in ‘Fantastic Beasts…’ were inspired by his meetings with animals off-screen, such as a rhino and an anteater.
He said: “It was so amazing meeting these [trainers] who had a passion for animals and knowledge of all their idiosyncrasies. God, it was fun.”
The Oscar-winning star enjoys playing complex characters because they give him the chance to explore experiences and emotions that are unfamiliar to him.
He said: “I’m a relatively straightforward human being. But I love being able to investigate those parts of characters that you don’t relate to at all, that you have to find a way to. As an actor, you’re given the freedom to explore those things in a safe environment.”

The Simpsons Movie 2 on the cards

OHMYGOSSIP — Fox “very much want” to make ‘The Simpsons Movie 2’.
James L. Brooks, who co-produces the animated TV series, has revealed the film studio are up for a sequel to 2007’s ‘The Simpsons Movie’ and admitted the production team could explore the possibility “soon”.
He said: “Fox very much wants us to do another one, and maybe we will and maybe we won’t – that’s where it is.
“How do we divide our labours, and do we believe in the idea we have? We may go into a more active exploration of a second movie soon.”
The first ‘Simpsons’ motion picture was a huge success, grossing more than $520 million worldwide, and while the TV series is in its 27th year and 28th season, Brooks admits it nearly came to an end around 1997.
He explained: “Around eight years in – I swear to God this is the truth. It’s an impossible truth to believe, so I say it with that caveat – but the truth is for me, about eight years in, we were going ‘Where are we going to get another story?’ and then we broke through that and never looked back.
“For some reason, coming up with stories stopped being hard and are not hard for us. I don’t know why. I don’t know how to explain that. I don’t think we’re repeating ourselves.”
The star admits at times it is tough to think of new ideas for episodes, and they have showrunner Al Jean to rely on to tell them if the subject has already been dealt with in an episode.
He added to LRM: “There’s always Al Jean, who’s our showrunner. He has a massive brain, and he knows everything we’ve done, and he’s always in the room who says, ‘Can’t, we’ve done that,’ and we go on and veer to the right when he says that.”
The first ‘Simpsons’ movie saw Dan Castellaneta reprise his role as a number of characters, including Homer Simpsons, Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Mel.
Julie Kavner voiced Marge Simpson, while Nancy Cartwright was Bart and Maggie Simpson.
In the film, Homer accidentally polluted Springfield’s water supply and the town was covered in a huge dome.

Ryan Lawrie: I won't win X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘X Factor’ contestant Ryan Lawrie says he “most likely” won’t win the singing competition.
The 20-year-old singer has found himself in the bottom three and facing the newly added lifeline vote for the past three weeks in a row, but has narrowly missed the dreaded sing-off each week as his fan flocked to the official app to save him.
Now, the star has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on the struggle of being so close to elimination from the competition each week.
In a picture of a note written on his phone, Ryan said: “For those who have just got to know me on ‘The X Factor’. I am not some boy who jumps around and is trying to become ‘Famous’. I am here for a reason and that reason is to make a career in music.
“I am NOT the strongest singer in the competition and I know that I’m probably (most likely) not going to win, but what I can say is I am a human being with a dream and I am trying to make it become reality.
“I am a songwriter. That is my first love and my main passion. I have been writing since I was a young boy and that is where my talent is.
“I am a loving and genuine boy. I wish the vest for everyone. I just wish people would understand that I’m just doing what I love.
“Thanks for all the love and support
“Lots of love, Ryan (sic)”
His tweet comes after fans of the show hailed the lifeline vote as “the worst ever”, and called for Ryan to be sent home after consistently falling into the bottom three.
Earlier in the night, Ryan wrote a tweet that expressed his love for the younger voters.
He wrote: “I’m gonna be honest here. I don’t get the votes from the older generation…but I sure as hell get them from all of you beautiful people!!”
Ryan Lawrie will appear on ‘The X Factor’ again on Saturday (05.11.16) where he will perform a song from the girlband vs boyband theme.

Ben Affleck's autism conviction

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck came away with a “fuller conviction” about autism after starring in ‘The Accountant’.
The Oscar-winning actor plays autistic maths genius Christian Wolff in the new film and says he conducted a lot of research to make sure he was sympathetic.
He said: “I didn’t come away with a deep, full understanding of autism, but I came away with a fuller conviction, a sort of humanist sense that we’re all so much more a like than we believe. Because they were all in search of a connection with one another.
“And some people with autism are just more … hindered from making that connection that others. But the want is still there, the want to have a relationship, the want to have a friend, the want to communicate. And that was what was really moving about the research.”
However, Ben says his alter-ego is not intended to be the most representative autistic character seen on the screen.
He told TimeOut during a sitdown in Los Angeles: “We’re seeing a high-functioning person. I wanted to make sure that people understood that this isn’t meant to be all autistic people. The people I talked to were happy to see that there’s somebody in a movie who’s very functional, who can do a lot of things, even special things. That doesn’t mean to diminish or to say that people who are less functional don’t exist.
“Most people [I spoke to] were kind of like ‘Look, don’t worry about it, we’re all kinds of people, we function at all different levels, we’re into it, we think it’s cool.’ Some people were like ‘Oh you’re doing an autistic superhero movie’, and I kinda got inspired by that idea and of finding the special and the cool about the character so it would be something that people with autism might be into, especially kids.”

Jared Leto to feature in Suicide Squad extended cut

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Suicide Squad’s extended cut is set to showcase the Joker’s deleted scenes.
Warner Bros. left many fans disappointed when the super villain – played by Jared Leto – was notably missing for large portions of the summer blockbuster, but a new trailer for the extended cut suggests that the addition of the previously deleted scenes will bump up the character’s screen time.
Whilst the blockbuster was poorly-received when it hit cinema screens in August, the studios are hoping to rectify that with the extended cut for home video release, as they did with ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ earlier this year.
Jared Leto has not been confirmed to be appearing in the deleted scenes that will make up the new cut, but the Joker is featured frequently throughout the newly released trailer, and so there is speculation that he will in fact get more screen time.
Meanwhile, the star previously admitted that he had shot a great deal of footage that the film’s director David Ayer – as well as the project’s producers – decided not to use.
Jared said previously: “I understand [this Suicide Squad film] is a bit of an introduction to The Joker. It’s more of a supporting part than it could have been, had they used everything – but there’s a method to [the filmmakers’] madness.”
The deleted scenes will reportedly make up an extra 13 minutes of footage, and includes scenes which David Ayer previously described as “orphans”.
He said: “We have a chunk [of deleted scenes], there’s definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there’s no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut. And that’s one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you f***ing love them and you think they’d be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship, not a democracy, and just because something’s cool and charismatic doesn’t mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master.”
The extended cut of ‘Suicide Squad’ will be released on digital HD on November 28 before getting a Blu-ray release on December 5.

Gifty Louise exits X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Gifty Louise has been booted off ‘The X Factor’.
The 20-year-old hopeful appeared furious to have been voted off the show following a strong performance of Ray Charles’ ‘A Song For You’ against girl group Four of Diamonds’ rendition of Christina Aguilera’s ‘The Voice Within’ in the sing-off.
Only her own mentor, Simon Cowell, opted to keep her in the competition, and afterwards tried to console her by blaming his choice of Fifth Harmony’s ‘I’m In Love With a Monster’ for her to sing on Saturday’s (29.10.16) live show for her exit.
Asked by host Dermot O’Leary what had gone wrong for her, Gifty said: “I don’t know”, and then Simon grabbed the mic.
He said: “It’s not you, it’s me. I shouldn’t have given you that song.”
Simon and Louis Walsh had the first say and voted to save their own acts, though the show boss got confused and initially said he was sending home Gifty before backtracking.
Nicole Scherzinger then praised Gifty for her “beautiful and moving performance” but then announced she was sending her home.
With the final vote left to Sharon Osbourne, Louis pleaded with his friend to save her group and she said “OK” before confirming she would send home Gifty.
For the third week in a row, Ryan Lawrie found himself in the bottom three but was saved via the lifeline vote on the official app.
Musical performances came from Bruno Mars and last year’s winner Louisa Johnson.
Next week’s theme will be Boyband v Girlband.

Anastacia voted off Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Anastacia has been voted off ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘I’m Outta Love’ and professional partner Brendan Cole have said goodbye to the competition after the judges unanimously chose to save Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec following the Halloween week dance-off.
Bruno Tonioli praised both couples for putting up a “fierce fight”, but admitted: “Overall I would like to choose the couple that satisfied me with content, gave me quality of movement, power of performance – Daisy and Aljaz.”
After hearing the news, Anastacia – who missed the first dance-off of the series when her mastectomy scar tore, leaving Melvin Odoom to depart the competition – thanked everyone involved in the show for helping her connect with her “female” self.
She told co-presenter Tess Daly: “I’ve really enjoyed being here. This was a place for me to get to know my ‘female’ and this place allowed me to do that; the hair, the make-up, the production, the judges gave me great comments, you and Claudia [Winkleman] have been amazing, the way you run this family, this family is beautiful and you (Brendan) are amazing. Thanks for everything.”
Brendan – who missed last weekend’s show after falling ill – also had kind words for his dance partner, thanking her for the “great ride” they’ve experienced together.
He said: “This programme will miss you. I will miss you.
“Thank you for teaching me so much about everything and for being a fantastic partner. Thank you so much, what a great ride.”

Great British Bake Off won't do Comic Relief

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Great British Bake Off’ will not get a Comic Relief special.
Love Productions – who make the beloved baking competition – recently revealed the show would be leaving its home on BBC One in favour of rival broadcaster Channel 4, and it has now been announced that the show won’t get a final farewell in the form of the celebrity charity special.
BBC bosses were reportedly hoping to reunite judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood for one last time before they part ways when the show moves channels, as Paul is the only current cast member to be reprising his role over on Channel 4.
The BBC released a statement on Saturday (29.10.16) which said: “We would have loved a ‘…Bake Off’ Comic Relief special, but Love Productions refused to make it.
“They have now moved to Channel 4 and are making a charity programme with them – with which we wish them well.”
However, bosses at Love Productions have slammed claims they refused to get involved, saying it was the BBC’s lack of correspondence which left them unable to fit it in their schedule.
A spokesperson for the production company said: “Love Productions was always keen to make the Comic Relief Bake Off special. We had been trying to engage the BBC in negotiations for more than a year so we would have time to produce both series eight of ‘…Bake Off’ and the ‘Comic Relief Bake Off’, which should have filmed in September.
“By the time the BBC meaningfully engaged in those negotiations, it was already too late for Love to produce the series for ‘Comic Relief Bake Off’ in time to air in Spring 2017.
“This was just one of the contributory factors behind the breakdown of negotiations with the BBC.”
The Comic Relief special of the show has run since 2012, and took the form of a four-episode mini series with celebrity contestants battling it out in aid of charity.
‘The Great British Bake Off’ will instead create a charity show in aid of Channel 4’s ‘Stand Up To Cancer’.

Louisa Johnson won't tone down outfit for X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Louisa Johnson won’t tone down her outfit for ‘The X Factor’.
The 18-year-old singer – who won the talent competition in 2015 – will take to the stage to perform her new single ‘So Good’ on Sunday (30.10.16), and says she won’t be toning down her outfit.
Her comments come after fellow ‘X Factor’ alumni Little Mix were slammed for wearing raunchy outfits when they appeared on the show earlier this month.
Speaking to the Sunday Mirror newspaper, the star said: “I thought Little Mix’s outfits were fine. They were really fine. They looked sick. There have been a few people [who have said things about my stage wear], but coming from the show, it’s difficult.
“You are on a TV show, you have to dress a certain way, you’ll get told off if you don’t. Then you come out of it and you want to dress how you want. It’s your personality. I don’t understand it.
“Everyone goes on about kids being confident with what they wear, young girls and boys, and then they get criticised for being comfortable with their bodies. It’s a bit confusing.”
And Louisa insists she isn’t looking to start trouble, but says it’s in her “nature” to speak out when she disagrees with something.
She added: “It’s just in my nature, it’s just the person I am, I’ve always been like this. It’s not because it upsets me, I am a fiery person, I can’t help it. Obviously it is best to ignore it, though.”
Previously, former Spice Girl Mel C hit out at the ‘Shout Out to My Ex’ hitmakers for being too provocative.
She said: “I love Little Mix. I loved them from ‘The X Factor’. I just thought they were so different.
“But they are getting more provocative. To me, they were kind of the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen. “They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren’t sexy and it’s got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, ‘Stay you’.”
