Oti Mabuse hires stylist to help feel confident in post baby body

OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse has hired a stylist to help her feel good in her post-baby body.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional – who welcomed her first daughter into the world in December 2023 with husband Marius Iepure – has been adjusting to life without dancing for hours each day, which has contributed to her changing body shape.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she reflected on her recent return to the ‘Dancing On Ice’ judging panel with the help of stylist Emma Lane.
She explained: “Once you become a mum, all those things you cared about you just don’t care about.
“You are not important anymore, it’s all about the baby. My body has changed, and I want to try new things.”
She previously reflected on her changing figure, noting her body “just doesn’t burn as fast as it used to”.
In a social media post, she credited her parents Peter and Dudu with being her inspiration to start a family of her own.
While they never put her “under any pressure”, she added: “I am who I am because of my mom and dad.
“I would want nothing more than to have them in my children’s life. To teach them values, skills and advice them how we were raised.”
Oti revealed she had given birth in a joyous Instagam post on Chrismas Day (25.12.24), having also announced her pregnancy on the social media site.
Last summer, she and Iepure wrote in a joint post: “Our ‘yes’ year is getting better and better and so is our little family.
“We feel finally ready and excited to share our wonderful news. This is new for us scarier than swimming with sharks, jumping off cliffs or even swinging from bridges but the best news we could have ever ask for…
“We love our little bundle of joy so much already… and can’t wait to see what our future will now look like as family of 3 plus [dog] leo, it’s been a beautiful journey so far with close friends and family and nearly over but we have learnt a lot a long the way…”

James Cameron has ideas for sixth and seventh Avatar films

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cameron has already made plans for the sixth and seventh ‘Avatar’ films.
The 69-year-old director has the future of the epic sci-franchise mapped out until the release of ‘Avatar 5’ in 2031 and revealed that he has ideas beyond that – even though he is likely to have stepped away from directorial duties by then.
James told People magazine at the Saturn Awards on Sunday (04.02.24): “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point.
“I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
Cameron – whose flick ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ picked up four awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles – explained that he wants the ‘Avatar’ franchise to match the popularity of sci-fi behemoths ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’.
The ‘Titanic’ filmmaker said: “‘Star Trek’, ‘Star Wars’, the world-building franchises that have been around since I was a kid, those were my inspirations.
“And as I was saying out there, we’re still a young universe. We’re only two movies in, we’re halfway through our third right now. To have that kind of cultural impact over time, you got to pour all your heart and energy into it.”
Cameron added: “People are always asking us, ‘So why did you just keep working in the same…’ Why did (George) Lucas keep working in the same thing? Why did (Gene) Roddenberry keep working in the same thing?
“Because when you connect with people, why would you squander that? Why would you start over with something else that might not connect?”
‘Avatar’ producer Jon Landau added that there are “more stories to tell” in the record-breaking franchise.
He said: “I mean, it’s not like we’re trying to come up with stories. He’s (Cameron) got the stories and we took the time to lay it out across all four sequels.”

David Leitch set to direct new Jurassic World film

OHMYGOSSIP — David Leitch is in talks to direct the new ‘Jurassic World’ movie.
The 48-year-old filmmaker is set to helm the latest installment in the dinosaur franchise with Universal Pictures confirming a release date of July 2, 2025.
David Koepp – who wrote the screenplay for the original 1993 ‘Jurassic Park’ movie – is set to pen the script for the new film.
Original director Steven Spielberg is to executive produce the picture for his Amblin Entertainment banner while producer Frank Marshall – who was involved in the ‘Jurassic World’ trilogy – is also working on the flick.
The film is thought to be launching a “new Jurassic era” with a brand-new storyline, seemingly ruling out returns for the ‘Jurassic World’ characters played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
The characters played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are also unlikely to feature in the new film after the trio returned for the 2022 film ‘Jurassic World Dominion’.
Leitch has established himself as a successful director in the action franchise through films such as ‘Atomic Blonde’, ‘Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw’ and ‘Bullet Train’.
The upcoming film will be the seventh in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise, although ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ director Colin Trevorrow claimed that the sequels should never have been made after his movie was met with negative reviews.
He told Empire magazine: “There probably should have only been one ‘Jurassic Park’ – but if we’re gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here’s another reason why we’re going to an island?”

Piers Morgan’s mum suffers heart attack

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan’s mum Gabrielle is recovering after suffering a heart attack.
The TV host revealed the 79 year old was rushed to hospital by ambulance back in November, but she had a terrible experience in the accident and emergency department as she was left waiting in a corridor for almost seven hours with only Piers’ sister Charlotte to keep an eye on her.
In his column for The Sun newspaper, Piers explained: “After being assessed on arrival in A and E, my mother was stuck on a trolley and put out in a corridor at 1 am to wait for a cardio bed to become available. And that’s where she stayed, for nearly seven hours.
“I’ve heard a lot about the shocking state of our country’s accident and emergency departments, but it’s only when you have a loved one facing a potential life-or-death situation that the full dreadful reality becomes starkly, painfully obvious.”
Piers went on to added: “My mother’s blood pressure was raging dangerously out of control, and she was understandably terrified of what might happen to her, but she lay unseen and unchecked by any medical staff from 1-4 am.
“That’s a very long three hours for anyone when they know they’ve had a heart attack and think they may be dying.”
Gabrielle was eventually seen by a registrar but still had to wait another three hours before she could be admitted to the hospital’s cardiac care unit, with the TV star adding: “Extraordinarily, nobody else checked up on her. Not even to ask if she felt OK, or to see if she wanted water, or anything. Every hour, my sister asked for the blood pressure meds – but none were given.
“Meanwhile, the trolleys continued piling up in the corridors. It wasn’t until porters arrived shortly before 8am that my mother was taken up to the cardiac unit.”
Gabrielle was admitted to the specialist care until at around 8am and Piers insisted she was given excellent treatment as soon as she arrived in the ward. She underwent surgery to fix a stent to treat a blocked artery and is now making a good recovery at home, however, Piers is adamant changes need to be made to stop patients suffering needlessly in hospital.
He added: “Nobody, let alone an elderly lady, should be stuck on a trolley in a public corridor for seven hours after having a heart attack in modern Britain.
“It’s undignified, degrading, unsettling, and frightening.”

Theo Campbell claims ‘politics’ kept him from returning for Love Island: All Stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Theo Campbell allegedly pulled out of ‘Love Island: All Stars’ due to “politics”.
The 32-year-old reality star took part in the third series of the ITV2 dating show in 2017 and previously dated Kaz Crossley from the 2018 series.
And Theo – who became a father for the first time to son Aries in 2021, whose mother is the influencer Sapphire Yhnell – has claimed producers wouldn’t allow him to enter the South African villa earlier on in the spin-off series, so he decided it wasn’t worth going in at all.
He told his Instagram followers: “I was supposed to start. But politics, so I didn’t. And now I’m not going at all. You don’t get me, mess me about, I can say that much. I did say originally that I’ll come on as a wildcard.
“I don’t know these people, they ain’t my mates. I’m just going to be there to [redacted] **** up. I said, ‘If you’re not going to bring me on in the first two weeks not to bother at all. They wanted to bring me in towards the end and I was like, it’s only five weeks long. The first two weeks is halfway nearly, so yeah, that’s why it hasn’t worked out.”
He also said: “I came on late when I first did it, so I don’t want to come on late again. There’s only so much I could do to [redacted] **** up. I need more than a week to do that. Sometimes to work the magic, it can’t be done in a day.”

Carey Mulligan says Greta Gerwig was robbed of an Oscar nomination for ‘Barbie’

OHMYGOSSIP — Carey Mulligan is “gutted” for Greta Gerwig after she failed to be nominated for ‘Barbie’.
The blockbuster live-action movie about the iconic Mattel doll was the biggest film of 2023, and given its deep message of female empowerment, it was a surprise when Margot Robbie’s (Barbie) co-star Ryan Gosling (Ken) received only nods for Best Supporting Actor and Best Picture at the upcoming Academy Awards, but both the leading lady and the film’s director missed out on a nomination.
In an interview with Britain’s The Times, Carey said of being nominated herself for her role as Leonard Bernstein’s wife Felicia Montealegre in the Netflix biopic ‘Maestro’: “(It) is just the coolest thing. Because it’s from your peers. It’s wicked.”
Carey insists that any actors who claim they don’t care about winning awards “are 100 per cent lying.”
The ‘Saltburn’ star cannot understand why Greta failed to receive a single nod.
She said: “I’m gutted for Greta because I don’t know what else you can do as a director to get nominated. You make a critically acclaimed film that’s also an incredible global success, and yet you don’t get nominated?”
Carey speaking out on the snub comes after Margot claimed she is “not sad” about her lack of Oscar nomination, but admitted she feels bad for Greta.
Speaking as part of a panel at a SAG screening of ‘Barbie’, she said: “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed. Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”
Upon its release in July 2023, ‘Barbie’ pulled in almost $1.5 billion at the box office whilst its competitor ‘Oppenheimer’ – which leads the way with a total of 13 nominations – made just over $950 million.
Margot believes that the reaction to ‘Barbie’ has simply become “bigger” than the industry itself.
She said: “I just suspect it’s bigger than us. It’s bigger than this movie, it’s bigger than our industry.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sterling K. Brown has predicted he’ll lose out on an Oscar to Robert Downey Jr.
He’s nominated for the Best Supporting Actor gong for his role in ‘American Fiction’ and will be going up against Downey Jr. for ‘Oppenheimer’ as well as Mark Ruffalo (‘Poor Things’), Robert De Niro (‘Killers of the Flower Moon’) and Ryan Gosling (‘Barbie’) but Sterling is convinced he doesn’t have a shot at landing the big prize.

He was on the show alongside fellow Oscar nominee Colman Domingo – who is competing in the Best Actor category for his performance in ‘Rustin’ – and Sterling predicted Colman will be victorious.
He said: “Colman will probably win,” Brown added. “I know that I’m not going to win.”
Sterling added that his own Oscar chances are slim because Downey Jr. gave such a good performance in ‘Oppenheimer’, explaining: “I’mma tell you, Robert Downey Jr.‘s gonna win, and he’s incredibly deserving.
“He’s an incredible actor. Like, you should give him love. The fact that I get a chance to be nominated along with him and Mr. [Robert] De Niro and Ryan Gosling and [Mark] Ruffalo … I’m just happy to be in the room.”
Sterling previously expressed his feelings about the nomination in an emotional Instagram video, In the clip, he said: “I didn’t know how else to respond to share my gratitude.

Stacey Solomon reveals why she feels like she has been a ‘mug’ in recent years

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon feels like she has been a “bit of a mug” in the last few years.
The 34-year-old star – who shot to fame as a teenager when she finished third on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 and has since gone on to a career in presenting – admitted that she has turned down opportunities in the last few years but has now vowed to go forward with “confidence and love” with those who are most important to her.
She told OK! Magazine: “I’d say over the last few years I’ve been a bit of a mug in some ways. I’ve turned down opportunities or taken certain paths because people who I thought mattered have wanted it. And it made them happy.
“But I’ve realised the only people who matter are the ones who want to lift you up, support every crazy idea you have, and fill you with confidence and love. Those are the people to keep close. Let the rest go!”
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist – who is married to former ‘EastEnders’ actor Joe Swash, 42, and has Rex, four, Rose, two, and Belle, 12 months, with him as well as Zach, 15, and 11-year-old Leighton from previous relationships – has also fronted BBC decluttering show ‘Sort Your Life Out’ and recently announced that it would be coming back for a fourth series.
She said: “I’m so happy that ‘Sort Your Life Out’ is back with even more life-changing declutters! We meet six amazing families who each have a different story that has brought them to us, whether that’s family loss or the cost-of-living crisis. Together, we create smart storage solutions, organise the mess, and let go of belongings that are holding them back.
“It’s such a privilege to support each family, transforming their homes and lives. Join us, and you might even be inspired to do your own big spring clean… I know I have been!”

Kate Garraway opens up about grief in first interview since losing Derek: ‘A new life starts now…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway has found “comfort” in knowing that her late husband Derek Draper is no longer in pain.
The 56-year-old journalist lost her husband Derek – with whom she has Darcy, 17, and 14-year-old Billy – in January when he died at the age of 56 following a four-year battle with COVID and in her first TV interview since the loss thanked viewers for their support and opened up about the “challenges” she and her children faced in his last few months.
Speaking on Monday’s (05.02.24) edition of ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ from her home, she said: “Having those messages, it makes me weep because I feel so grateful and I’m also aware that there are people this mornign that don’t have that sense of love. I know there will be people going to funerals today.
“I’m not sure I did it very well, I relied on everybody else like we all do. I have a massive debt to so many people and not least Derek. His spirit to keep going…never once did he say ‘I don’t want to try’, The children have also been extraordinary throughout. And I think we have rituals like funerals because there is this extraordinary vacuum.
“It feels like five years and also two minutes since I was in the studio.
“I was excited because Derek had never been in a more positive place than he was just before the cardiac arrest that took him from us.
“He had an MRI scan, it was the furthest from the spectre of death that we had ever been.
“I remember thinking ‘We must do this, we’ve got all these things…’ and then it was one of those stop-the-clock moments when you want the world to stop. The vacuum at that point, having been entirely focused for four years, it swamps you.
“I think…thinking ‘Right, we now have what we’ve been told is 24 hours’, which turned out to be a month…that was a challenge.
“It was a challenge to make sure he knew that he wasn’t letting us down because he couldn’t get through this last one. The children had time with him on their own as well as all of us together and Darcy said ‘Dad, if you can’t do this, we’ll be okay. Release yourself if you need to go, don’t worry about us.'”
“It’s a comfort to think he’s free from pain, and my goodness, he deserves to be. But for Derek, what the medical profession, the carers, the therapists…there was a porter at the funeral who wanted to be there for porters everywhere. Receptionists…what they gave to our family for those extra four years is extraordinary and Derek wouldn’t have traded one day of it and neither would we.”
Kate is due to return to her regular role hosting ‘Good Morning Britain’ later this week after almost two months off and admitted that she wants to return to work because life has to “go on” in honour of her husband.
She added: “Thank you to them, thank you for everybody. A new life starts now…I don’t quite know how it’s gonna be but grief isn’t containable in a day or a month or a year.
“People are asking why I’m going back to work but everybody has to.
“Life has to start any minute now. We have to pick ourselves up and go on because that’s what Derek did.”
The former GMTV presenter – who has received letters of condolence from David and Victoria Beckham, as well as King Charles and Catherine Princess of Wales – concluded her interview by noting what an “honour” it had been to be able to care for her husband and even though she has some “regrets” over the way she handled things but admitted that her life will have been “built forever” around the tragedy.
“It’s an incredible thing to be in that line of defence against the world and what happens to us all in life. To be able to be there for somebody is the ultimate honour and privilege really, isn’t it? I know I didn’t get it all right. I have lots of regrets of things I should have done more and spent less time fretting about, but it is a huge honour and what you do will be something that builds your life forever.”

Davina McCall ‘enjoys the chaos’ of motherhood buts wants independent kids

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall “enjoys the chaos” of her motherhood but wants her children to be independent.
The 56-year-old TV star, who is a judge on ‘The Masked Singer UK’, revealed that she loves that her children – Holly, 22 and Tilly, 20 are independently living, with her youngest, Chester, 17, being the only one still living at home.
Speaking to Hello! magazine, she said: “My aim has always been to give my children wings, so they’re confident enough to go and do whatever they want to do,” she says. “Obviously the reality of that will be … quiet.
“I quite enjoy the chaos. But I’d much rather they went off confidently than clung on to my legs and never want to leave.”
The former ‘Big Brother’ host emphasised that she loved the “concept of a second spring” and felt like overcoming her “empty nest” was the start of a new chapter in her life.
She explained: “I love that concept of a second spring. I suppose it’s a way of trying to help us overcome the empty nest, to understand that letting go of something is the birth of something else.
“And once you’ve let go of your kids, and they’ve gone on to live their lives, you can start thinking, ‘Well, what do I want to do with this next act?’”
Previously, Davina admitted that her relationship with her children had changed, but still felt that she was “needed” in their lives.
She told Good Housekeeping magazine: “They call all the time and ask my advice, so I still feel needed, which is nice.
”But as they get older, they need you less – and differently. It’s fewer trips to escape rooms and farms and more the mental health side of things: listening and guiding.”

Rylan Clark thinks he needs to be ‘more of an a**hole’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark thinks he needs to be “more of an a**hole”.
The 35-year-old TV personality, who shot to stardom after appearing on the 2012 series of ‘The X Factor’ is due to host Prime Video’s new reality show ‘Hot Mess Summer’, where eight party-loving single people jet off to Zante, Greece, to serve drinks and scrub toilets for six weeks.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “My job isn’t to discipline, my job is to encourage them and make sure they’re enjoying it.
“But my biggest vice is being too nice to people. I get on with everyone, and it’s only if you [annoy me] that we’re done, because I’ve got a sting in my tail. Maybe I need to be more of an a**hole.”
Reflecting on the programme, Rylan emphasised that ‘Hot Mess Summer’ would be a change of pace to reality shows like ‘Love Island’, with a greater focus on hard work rather than personalities.
He said: “They are not here for a party summer, they’re here to work. It’s a fantastic cast but it’s always hard, especially with the younger generation now, to find people that aren’t ‘trained’ for it.
“They’ve grown up with reality TV so they know how it works. They’re the TikTok generation, they know what to say, when not to say it.
“But the guys we’ve found, they’re happy to slip at times and I think that’s what makes a good show.
“This is the type of show I probably would have been on ten years ago.”
The ‘This Morning’ presenter then revealed that whilst “what you see on TV is what you get” with him, he considers himself “more blokey” in day-to-day life.
He explained: “What you see on TV is what you get with me. But it is telly, so I smile, the teeth come out and my voice goes slightly higher.
“In real life, I’m a bit more normal, more blokey. But I don’t tell anyone because it will ruin my career.”

‘I think that’d be awesome’: Aldis Hodge open to The Invisible Man sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Aldis Hodge is willing to star in a sequel to ‘The Invisible Man’.
The 37-year-old actor played the part of detective James Lanier in the 2020 horror film and would be willing to team up with director Leigh Whannell and co-star Elisabeth Moss on a follow-up, although he hasn’t heard “any updates” about a new movie.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Aldis said: “No, I haven’t heard any updates. I know people were talking about it, I was like, ‘Who’s gonna be the invisible person. Is it gonna be The Invisible Baby? Like what are we doing?’ No, I’m kidding.
“If they did a sequel, I think that’d be awesome. Leigh Whannell is amazing, working with him was just fantastic, and his sort of knack for suspense and drawing that out.”
The ‘Black Adam’ star continued: “And Elisabeth Moss, she’s great. We had a really nice time on that, so yeah, if there was a sequel, I’m definitely down, but I haven’t heard any murmurings since.”
Elisabeth starred in the film as Cecilia Kass – a woman convinced that she is being stalked by her abusive husband even though he supposedly took his own life – and previously revealed that she was prepared to feature in a sequel if there was enough audience interest.
She told the horror site Bloody Disgusting: “Look, if people want it that’s kind of a big part of what we need in order to do it. So put the word out there that you want it and then I’ll help!”

‘I’m gonna be strong enough’: Jeremy Renner determined to make Marvel return

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Renner will be “strong enough” to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The 53-year-old actor suffered serious injuries after being run over by his own snowplow at his Nevada home in January 2023 but is determined to honour those who supported him during the horrific ordeal by reprising his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye.
Asked about a return to the part, Jeremy told Entertainment Tonight: “I’m always game. I’m gonna be strong enough, that’s for sure. I’ll be ready.
“All those guys come to my bedside and they’ve been with me all along through this recovery, so… if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.”
Jeremy spent more than two weeks in hospital after breaking more than 30 bones in the accident and is going to prioritise “health and wellness” for the rest of his life.
The ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ star said: “(I’m doing) probably 90 per cent of all the things I needed to be doing… I think another six months will be hopefully running (more)… I got to set goals for myself. I’ll do whatever I can… whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger.
“It’s a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it, man. There’s always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that’s what I look forward to.”
Jeremy recently explained that the incident has altered his view on the cycle of life and has left him “kind of excited” about dying.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s ‘This Life of Mine with James Corden’, he said: “I was never afraid, mind you, of death prior. Now, I’m really not afraid of it. Now, I’m double downing. Yes, certainly not afraid of it.
“Now, I’m kind of excited for it. To be honest, it’s what life really is.
“This rock that we’re spinning on and this body and this language that we’re speaking and all these feelings and emotions and conflict is all… meaningless in the scheme of things.”

Corrie star Jane Danson was scared to leave house after receiving hate mail

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane Danson was scared to leave her house after receiving ‘Coronation Street’ hate mail.
The 45-year-old actress has played Leanne Battersby on the ITV soap since 1997 but revealed she did not receive a warm reception when she first appeared on the programme as part of the brash family – which was also made up of matriarch Janice (Vicky Entwistle), ex-con-Les (Bruce Jones) and younger daughter Toyah (Georgia Taylor) -and became fearful of going out in public as a result.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “People wrote to me all the time saying, ‘We hate you. Leave our street!’
“I was just a girl from Burt who had done a few bits of acting, so as an 18-year-old that was a big shock.
“One day, I was out at my local shops when an old woman hit me with her handbag and told me to ‘turn that bloody music down’, because Leanne had been shaking the cobbles with her big boom box!
“I became too scared to leave the house and had to be careful where I went out.
“I’m not gobby like Leanne, but back then, for many viewers, ‘Coronation Street’ was a real place.
“Nowadays with social media like Instagram, people get to see us as actual people and not just characters. But the attention is still pretty intense.”
Despite the negative attention she initially received, Jane – who appeared in CITV drama ‘Children’s Ward’ before landing her signature role as Leanne and then had a short-lived role in ‘The Bill’ in 2002 before going back to ‘Coronation Street’ two years later – has seen her character grow in popularity because of her range of storylines.
Over the years, Leanne has been married to Nick Tilsey (Ben Price) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and in 2011 discovered her birth mother was Stella Price (Michelle Collins) but has also been at the heart of darker storylines, such as burning a local restaurant down in an insurance fraud plot and famously became the show’s first prostitute in 2007.
One particularly tough storyline came when her three-year-old son Oliver, who was a result of a one-night stand with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), was dying from genetic mitochondrial disease, and started a legal battle to prevent the hospital from turning his life-support machine off.
The former ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant revealed that telling such sensitive stories had been able to strike a chord with viewers.
She said: “I’m poured we managed to tell a powerful story against all the odds.
“Parents with seriously ill children would stop me in the street and tell me their story.
“That’s another thing that comes with the job, and we aren’t always qualified for, but we hoped we raise awareness of this terrible disease.”

Trigger Point star Mark Stanley wants to be a police officer for real

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Stanley wants to be a police officer in real life.
The 35-year-old actor, who plays DCI Thom Youngblood in the ITV drama ‘Trigger Point’, has revealed playing a police officer in the programme has made him want to pursue a career as a law enforcer.
He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I’ve always fancied myself as someone who can stay calm in those situations but I’d probably quickly be plummeting to my death still thinking about how to build a life raft.”
Mark’s comments come just after Thom was written out of the show once he was sent hurtling down an elevator shaft.
The character had been in an on-again-off-again relationship with police bomb squad operative Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) before meeting his untimely demise.
Reflecting on Lana’s relationship with Thom, Vicky told ITV: “Lana very quickly discovers that he does have a new girlfriend, Helen and she just so happens to be a beautiful, intelligent police officer.
“Thom is such a gent, he’s a good guy and it was a shame that Lana’s troubles got in the way of her being open enough to have that relationship with him, but there’s only so long that he could wait and he didn’t know if she would be back in six months, six years or never, so Thom is just getting on with his life.
“Lana’s intentions are quite unclear and we’ll see throughout the series where that relationship does head, there’s plenty to explore.”
Mark agreed and added: “I don’t think Thom is the best at relationships, but I didn’t want him to come off as flippant or fickle in regard to women. He’s only been seeing Helen for a few weeks, they’re just dating, but she’s aware of who Lana is.
“Thom and Lana had been together for quite a while, and they’d been through a lot together, including losing her brother and best friend. When they see each other again they’re put in a really stressful, dangerous situation and it reignites something between them, a trust and a bond.
“He’s not in an enviable position at all – imagine having someone so significant suddenly just walking back into your life, amidst a crazy turn of events that you never envisaged yourself being a part of. She is the only person who can save his life in that moment.”
