Donald Glover’s love for Star Wars inspired him to make franchise return

OHMYGOSSIP — Donald Glover’s passion for ‘Star Wars’ encouraged him to return to the franchise.
The 40-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in a new spin-off movie and explained how his love for the character inspired him to re-enter the legendary space opera.
Donald told The Hollywood Reporter: “[‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ co-star] Maya [Erskine] and I talk about nos a lot, it’s the only power you have in this industry. But I said yes because I like the characters and my kids love ‘Star Wars’.
“And at this point, I just know when something’s going to be good, because you’re really fighting the industry when you [put your imprint on a franchise of that magnitude]. And it’s not like … I was going to say, and it’s not like I hate the industry, but now I’m like, ‘Do I hate the industry?’”
Donald initially played the part of Lando in the 2018 film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and recalled how Billy Dee Williams – who first starred the character in 1980’s ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ – told him to be “charming” as the space smuggler.
He said: “I was like, ‘I’ve always felt like this character could do this, and he represents this, and I kind of feel like he comes from here, and it’s very obvious he has a lot of taste, so maybe he grew up seeing that from afar? Because I’m like that. Maybe he saw it from other planets and was like, ‘I want to be that.’
“He just let me ramble on and on, and then finally I was like, ‘So, what do you think?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about all that. Just be charming.'”

Debbie McGee ‘cherishes’ memories of Paul Daniels

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie McGee “cherishes” the moments she can look back on her life with Paul Daniels.
The 65-year-old star was left devastated when her beloved husband died in March 2016, aged 77, anf she believes it is important to keep the “wonderful memories” of their time together “alive”.
Debbie is offering support to Marie Curie’s Day of Reflection – which calls on the public to observe a minute’s silence at midday on 3 March – and reflected on how every person’s experience of grief is different.
She said: “Grief is a universal experience that often leaves a huge imprint on our day-to-day lives. But when I reflect on the losses I have felt, I also see how personal each experience is and there is no single way in which grief touches us.
“That’s why it’s so important to get involved with Marie Curie’s Day of Reflection. On March 3rd, I will be remembering the important people in my life who are no longer here. I cherish the moments I have to reflect on my time with Paul and keep those wonderful memories alive.”
New research found 50% of UK adults experienced the bereavement of a close friend, family member of acquaintance during the COVID-19 pandemic, with almost half still coming to terms with their grief, and the Day of Reflection is held to remember those who died during that time and to show support to the bereaved.
Debbie added: “I will take a moment to pause and remember the people who were bereaved during the pandemic in the most difficult of circumstances.”
End-of-life charity Marie Curie have published resources to support people and organisations wanting to host an event, and for individuals to observe the day, including an events map at dayofreflection.org.uk, a downloadable petal to share the name of someone being remembered on social media, bereavement support via their support line, and a special radio programme, hosted by Gaby Roslin, called ‘Sound Not Silence’.
Jane Murray, Bereavement Services Manager at Marie Curie said: “The pandemic was a devastating time of loss where people’s normal traditions and death rituals couldn’t take place or were altered in some way. For a great many, this made their grief either delayed or more complicated and put millions at risk of needing formal grief counselling. Today, that sad legacy continues. We still support new clients who were impacted by the pandemic, and I predict this will continue for years to come.
“Building a new life without a person you love is a life-long process. I hear first-hand how important the Day of Reflection has become. Time, space and reflection is an essential part of the grieving process.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Fred Sirieix was left “black and blue” after a diving failure.
The 52-year-old TV star, who hosts the Channel 4 dating show ‘First Dates’, revealed he had tried diving with his Olympic diver daughter Andrea, 17, but emerged from the pool covered in bruises.
Speaking to the Metro Sixty Seconds column, he said: “I tried diving for five days with my daughter Andrea – who’s an Olympic with Team GB.
“I was left black and blue, I got bruised everywhere, it was so painful.
“I was scared every time I was on the board. My daughter was on the ground and she said, ‘Daddy, you’ve got to relax, we can see your heart beating in your chest.’ I can’t believe she saw that.”
Despite his diving failure, the maitre d’ is still an accomplished sportsman, and left ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ viewers shocked after he revealed his impressively toned body.
Speaking of his routine, he said: “I exercise six times a week and I do 20 minutes of basic bodyweight exercises or 301 push-ups, 100 squats and 100 reverse squats, which takes me 20 minutes.
“Then I was on the bike for 20 minutes and I did 15 minutes of various exercises with free weights.
“It’s basically about getting your heart rate up for 20 minutes a day. The older you get, the more you realise it’s about mobility.”
Fred, who was the third star to be eliminated from the ITV show, admitted that he struggled the most with food in the camp.
He explained: “In the morning, you’re given the rice and bean portions and you have to decide what you cook and when you’re cooking.
“So, we’d usually have rice in the morning, beans for lunch and then keep something back for the evening.
“By the afternoon, your energy levels go down but you need to save energy to get water and wood. That’s when you get hungry.”

Babatunde Aléshé gave up stand-up to work in an ordinary job before making it big

OHMYGOSSIP — Babatunde Aléshé once gave up his stand-up career for a normal job.
The 37-year-old comedian – who is now known for appearing on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ and ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’ – went through a rough patch some years ago where he decided to give up his dreams of stardom and working at TfL until his wife Leonie persuaded him to give comedy another go.
Speaking on the ‘Wonderbox’ podcast, he told host Russell Howard: “I’d had enough. I was working on stage and it got to the point where I thought ‘I don’t want this anymore’ and so I walked away, I really did. For two years, I just had a regular job. I didn’t do anything comedy-wise, and my wife was like ‘Are you really gonna just gonna sit home and not perform?’ I was like ‘Yeah!’ and she was like ‘Nah, you are a stand-up. You’re always or coming up with bits, just go and do what you love’.
” And that was it. But I knew I would always come back. I was working at TfL.”
The TV star explained that because he was relatively well-known, some of his colleagues at Transport for London were surprised to see him there and reflected that everything changed for him once he got management on board.
“Everyone at work knew who I was, especially the black people, they knew. They’d be like ‘What the hell?’ and I’d say that I was just working, taking care of my wife.
“Management, though, I’ll be real. The thing is, I was always funny but I had no guidance. And I’m not business savvy – I don’t know how to get from A to B. All I know is that I’m just funny but there’s a structure to how you go about stand-up and I never knew it. I just needed someone to explain it to me. ”

“A lot of good stuff came out of last year – solidarity, meeting old friends and making new friends. I actually formed a friendship with the daughter of one of the abusers at our school … ‘Masked Singer’ came up and I thought, do you know what? Yeah.
“We had a great laugh. The girls would have their friends round who didn’t know.
“Last Saturday night was a riot in our house. Two of the friends got it and were just uncontrollably laughing, but my daughter’s boyfriend didn’t have a clue it was me so when the reveal happened it was a beautiful moment.”

Richard Arnold reveals that Kate Garraway has been supporting him as he cares for his mother

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Arnold is being supported by Kate Garraway as he cares for his mother.
The 54-year-old presenter revealed that his mother had taken ill last year and is now “no longer independent” but revealed that his ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-star Kate – who recently lost her husband Derek after a four year battle with COVID – has been by his side behind the scenes after her “very public journey” in trying to shine a light on the work that carers do throughout her own ordeal.
He told The Sun: “It’s been a very public journey for Kate as well as a very private one and I think the spotlight that she’s put on the caring profession, in particular because I, you know, I care for my mum daily.
Mum had a bout of ill health last year and unfortunately she’s now no longer independent and I’m there every day. I remember saying to Kate, you know, you sort of feel guilty when you are there, are you doing enough? And then you feel guilty when you’re not there enough. Anyone who’s in that position as a sort of unpaid carer knows it’s a huge responsibility.
“Particularly with someone that you love and cherish and you want to make every day the best you can for them.
“So what Kate has done in shining a light on that community I think it’s extraordinary.
Richard added that he had been “very lucky” in finding a “fantastic” nurse to care for his mum and also thanked his other colleagues at the breakfast show for their support.
He said: “But we’ve been very lucky. For one particular condition that mum had a nurse would come in once maybe twice a week, Priscilla her name was.
“She’s been fantastic. And now that mum’s a little bit better, Priscilla’s off the clock but the district nurses have been phenomenal.
“But that can be quite daunting for anyone to navigate initially, but Kate has been hugely supported.
But everybody has (at GMB) because we’re all at that, sort of, stage of life.
“You know, it’s the next chapter and, you know if you can go through the next chapter with a supportive ensemble I mean, obviously friends, family not just colleagues, you’re winning.”
Former ‘GMTV’ presenter Kate, 56, took time out of her regular role on the ITV1 show in December just weeks before Derek died and is set to make her return to the studio on Thursday.
On Monday (05.02.24), Kate – who has Darcey, 17, and 14-year-old Billy with her late husband – gave her first interview since the funeral where she appeared on the programme from home.
She said: “It’s a comfort to think he’s free from pain, and my goodness, he deserves to be. But for Derek, what the medical profession, the carers, the therapists…there was a porter at the funeral who wanted to be there for porters everywhere. Receptionists…what they gave to our family for those extra four years is extraordinary and Derek wouldn’t have traded one day of it and neither would we.”

Strictly star Ellie Leach lands first big job since winning BBC show

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Leach is set appear in ‘Cluedo 2’.
The 22-year-old actress, who won the 2023 series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ with partner Vito Coppola, is due to make her stage debut in the UK tour dramatization of the classic mystery board game, and star alongside ‘Casualty’ actor Jason Durr, who will play Colonel Mustard.
She said: “After an incredible year, I’m so excited to join the cast of ‘Cluedo 2’.
“I am delighted to make my stage acting debut as Miss Scarlett and I can’t wait to work with Jason and the talented cast.”
Ellie – who left her role as Faye Windass last year after more than a decade on the show – will take over the role from former ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Helen Flanagan, who had withdrawn due to “medical reasons”.
Jason had also expressed his excitement to star in the stage show.
He said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of ‘Cluedo 2’ as Colonel Mustard.
“I was a huge fan of the ‘Cluedo’ board game as a child and the Colonel is such a great character. I am looking forward to bringing laughter and this ultimate whodunnit to audiences across the UK in its 75th anniversary year.”
The play is set in the ’60s and is written by BAFTA award-winning writers Maurice Gran and Laurence Mark.

“The chat on tour is they may have enjoyed a cheeky snog, and will go public with their romance any week now.”

Johannes Radebe reveals how he deals with backstage Strictly dramas: ‘I am there with the hot tea!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Johannes Radebe can easily “walk away” from backstage dramas.
The 36-year-old dancer – who was born in South Africa and performed on cruise ships before finding TV stardom – has served as a professional on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ since 2018 and when asked how he deals with backstage dramas, admitted that because of his background, he is able to let the “divas” get on with it whilst he focuses on the job in hand.
Speaking on the ‘Table Manners’ podcast, he told hosts Jessie and Lennie Ware: “I’m there with my cup of tea. I’m there with a cup of hot, hot, hot tea. I always find it so interesting and I’m so observant. Thank God this came to me at a young age, having to deal with different people, and different personalities in different communities. When I eventually got my break and I was travelling the world with world-class dancers that had titles – British Championships, Italian Championships and here comes Johannes [with] the South African title…it’s not even a world title. Fine.
“But I always understood that and I just always vowed to be the hardest-working one in the room.
“I’ve always been the first black one in everything I did, that was amazing so-to-speak. So the pressure of having to keep up has allowed me to firstly be kind to myself in that situation, step back a little bit, and let the divas do their thing.
“I always did what works for me to make space but ultimately put on the music and dance. If we get to the job of it, let’s do the job because we can walk away from it afterwards. We can walk away from it after we are done with it. That always centred me, that I can walk away from it whenever it gets too much.”
Meanwhile, to deal with the stresses of his career, Johannes – who competed with tennis legend Annabel Croft on last year’s edition of the Latin and ballroom show – is a smoker but admitted he is trying to “wean” himself off the cigarettes at the moment and thanked his sister Jabu for always being there to keep in check when it comes to the habit.
Asked if he smokes more when he is doing ‘Strictly’, he said: “Yeah! Do you know that I’m weaning myself off it right now because I’m not stressed when I’m not working so much.
“It’s a lot. And I thank goodness for where I come from because my sister pulled me to order every time I grow wings.”

West End legend Michael Ball reveals secret obsession with Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Ball is a “huge fan” of ‘Doctor Who’.
The 61-year-old actor has carved out a huge career in musical theatre having famously starred in productions of ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Apsects of Love’ and ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ over the years but revealed that away from the stage, he is rewatching every episode of the BBC sci-fi series even though it may come as a surprise to fans.
He told Woman’s Weekly magazine: “‘I know it doesn’t sound like it, but I love watching Doctor Who. I saw it was the 60th anniversary and I’ve always been a fan so I went back to watch it literally from the start and – stone me – I’m now on series five!”
However, the stage star – who has lived with former ‘Ready Steady Go! presenter Cathy McGowan for more than 30 years – revealed that his significant other is not so enthusiastic about ‘Doctor Who’ and often insists that he watches it in a separate room.
He said: “‘She says, ‘What are you doing? You just sit there watching blobs that form and then kill people! ‘I’m not allowed to watch it with her t, in the room. I’m on my iPad with my headphones in, in my sad little world, as she calls it!”
Meanwhile, Michael is gearing up to go on his first solo tour in a number of years and even though he has performed with fellow West End star Alfie Boe as part of the double act Ball and Boe in recent times, he admitted that there are still so many songs he has never performed before.
He said: “I’m really excited because it’s a while since I’ve done a solo tour, and I’ve got a load of stuff that I haven’t ever performed live. I’ve done gigs with Alfie and he’d just finished his solo tour, so I thought, ‘Right, I better get myself out there. If he can do it, I can do it!’.
‘We will be back together at some point soon, I’m sure, but this is me reconnecting with the fans and doing my own thing.’
‘The Michael Ball: On With the Show’ tour runs from March 11 – 30, with tickets available from LiveNation.co.uk.

Davina McCall didn’t even tell her kids about her Doctor Who role

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall kept her ‘Doctor Who’ role secret from her own children.
The 56-year-old star – who has three kids with ex-husband Matthew Robertson – played a fictionalised version of herself in the festive special ‘The Church on Ruby Road’, and at one point in the episode seemingly got killed off by a falling Christmas Tree before Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord saved the day.
Asked to share a secret, she told Woman and Home magazine: “People know most things about me!
“The last big secret I had was when I was in the ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special. I didn’t even tell my kids until it was announced.”
Despite not having secrets, the former ‘Big Brother’ host does have some surprising talents, particularly in the world of music.
She said: “I play the piano and very basic clarinet.
“We have a piano in the house and I’m classically trained, while [partner Michael Douglas] is more like ‘pick up the chords and play along.’
“We’re quite different in our styles but he’s amazing.”
Despite not having any secrets, Davina recalled one moment she could have done without people finding out about as she revealed her most embarrassing memory.
She confessed: “I went for a wee between two cars when I was out with friends one night.
“I was crouched down, and one of the cars turned its lights on and caught me out.”
Still, Davina insisted she has no regrets, and is embracing the way people like Miriam Margolyes grow old.
Reflecting on ageing, she explained: “The worst thing is still feeling young but your body telling you you’re not!
“The best thing is joining the ‘Zero F****’ club. It’s risky but it’s very feeling.
“Miriam Margolyes is the best example of a woman doing it that I’ve ever seen.”

Moana 2 is coming in 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — Disney will release ‘Moana 2’ later this year.
The studio has announced a sequel to the original beloved animated blockbuster – which was released in 2016 and starred Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho – and fans don’t have to wait long until the November 27 release date.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement: “‘Moana’ remains an incredibly popular.
“We can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters this November.”
The project was originally set to be a TV series, but Iger was so impressed with the footage that the decision was made to go with a feature film theatrical release.
Disney added that the sequel will take fans on an “expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers”.
The studio teased: “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
Music will come from duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, alongside Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, who worked on the original film, with Dave Derrick Jr. set to direct.
However, Lin-Manuel Miranda – who penned classic tracks ‘How Far I’ll Go’ and ‘You’re Welcome’ for the first movie – is not set to write new songs for ‘Moana 2’.
The upcoming sequel is separate from Disney’s planned live action remake, which will see Dwayne Johnson reprise his role as tattooed demigod Maui.
And while Auli’i Cravalho is set to reprise her role as Moana in the animated sequel, she won’t be bringing the character to the screen in the live action project.
She previously wrote on Instagram: “I believe it is absolutely vital that casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.
“I can’t wait to find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength.”

Kumail Nanjiani still has therapy over negative reviews to Marvel’s Eternals

OHMYGOSSIP — Kumail Nanjiani had to go to therapy after negative reviews of Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ consumed him.
Despite having an A-list ensemble cast, including Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, and Kit Harington, the Chloé Zhao film was largely slated by critics – and he didn’t take it well at all.
Speaking on the ‘Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum’ podcast, he said: “I had the best time doing that movie, and I realised this is how work should feel like.
“However, when that movie came out and the reviews weren’t good, that was very, very tough for me and I realised that too much of how I’m evaluating what I want to do is based on the result of what other people think of it.”
Kumail – who played the Eternal Kingo in the superhero film – recalled: “It was really, really hard because Marvel thought that movie was going to be really, really well reviewed, and so they lifted the embargo really early and they also put it in some fancy movie festivals and they sent us on a big global tour promoting the movie right as the embargo lifted.
“So we had to travel the world while they thought we’d be going on a wave of raves and it wasn’t true. The reviews were really bad.”
Even to this day, the 45-year-old actor talks about the reviews in his counselling sessions.
He added: “I think there was some weird soup in the atmosphere for why that movie got slammed so much, and I think not much of it has to do with the actual quality of the movie. It was really hard, and that was when I thought it was unfair to me and unfair to [my wife] Emily, and I can’t approach my work this way anymore. Something has to change, so I started counselling. I still talk to my therapist about that.”

Channel 4 combines The Traitors and Big Brother with Josh Must Win

OHMYGOSSIP — Channel 4 is combining ‘The Traitors’ and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ into new show ‘Josh Must Win’.
The broadcaster has created a blend of both programmes with a new psychological strategy gameshow, which is centred around a fake reality show ‘The Favourite’, which sees a cast of larger than life ordinary people striving to be the most popular.
However, a second show – featuring host Nick Grimshaw and stars Pete Wicks, Amber Gill and Vicky Pattison – is actually happening away from the main group.
Across the eight episodes, the celebrities have to do whatever they can to make sure one man leaves ‘The Favourites’ as the winner.
E4’s commissioning editor Mel Bezalel said: “At E4, we’re completely obsessed with reality that drives viewing on All 4, and we’re excited about taking the genre in a completely (and sneaky) new direction.
“This is a show that engages celebrities in an entirely different way, using their unique skillset and experiences to manipulate gameplay – with entertaining and surprising results. This is a TV event not to miss.”
The show has been described as a “buy-one-get-one free” format “unlike anything we’ve seen before”.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “‘The Traitors’ has shown how something a little more intellectual, offering a twist on the standard reality genre, can really fly.
“Bosses hope Josh Must Win will similarly shake things up and capture viewers’ imagination.”
The stars involved will have to “do everything they can” to impact the game.
The source added: “The celebs will do everything they can to influence the game — by setting tasks, introducing twists and using all they’ve learnt about reality shows and popularity to ensure Josh’s triumph.
“Of course the bigger picture is a look at what it takes to be popular today.
“Is it the dry wit of ‘Big Brother’ winner Jordan Sangha? Or the baby-faced innocence of The Traitors’ Harry Clark?”
Other stars – such as Gemma Collins – will feature throughout the eight part run.
‘Josh Must Win’ is coming to E4 next month.

Lee Mack’s game show returning next week

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Mack’s ITV game show ‘The 1 Per Cent Club’ is returning this month.
The popular game show – which was crowned The Most Popular Quiz Game Show at the 2023 National Television Awards – will return with a whopping 16 episodes, double the number of previous instalments.
The broadcaster is also working on two Christmas specials for 2024.
Speaking of the show’s comeback, the comedian said: “Once again, I am delighted to cause household arguments, as kids mock their parents for being not as bright as them.
“But grown-ups can stay out as late as we want, so we get the last laugh.”
The format sees 100 contestants given the opportunity to walk away with a life-changing sum of £100,00 – but only if they can answer a question correctly that only 1 per cent of the nation got right.
Dean Nabarro at Magnum Media added: “For all those people who still haven’t managed to get the 1 per cent question right, the great news is there will be another 16 shows to prove you’ve got what it takes to be in The 1 Per cent Club.”
The show returns on February 17 on ITV1 and ITVX.
The 55-year-old funnyman previously admitted he’d have turned down the chance to host ‘The 1 Per Cent Club’ if he’d been able to get all the questions right.
The ‘Not Going Out’ star told the Daily Star newspaper: “I like quizzes that are tough. I watch ‘University Challenge’ knowing that if I’m lucky I’ll get a couple of questions right and I’m more than happy with that because when you get it right you feel great!
“Quizzes like ‘Millionaire’ are great, starting off fairly easy and yet towards the end most of us haven’t a clue what the answers are, which is handy otherwise they’d have to give a million pounds out each show.
“That’s what I really like about ‘The 1 Per Cent Club.’ The producers shared some questions with me and if I’d been able to get them all right, probably wouldn’t have done the show. But I quickly realised, if someone gets these right, they’re a proper brain box!”

Jeremy Clarkson ‘couldn’t wee for days’ during The Grand Tour Africa special

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t pee for days during filming for ‘The Grand Tour’ Africa special.
The former ‘Top Gear’ star, 63, was working on ‘Sand Job’, the penultimate episode of their Prime Video show, but he and his co-presenters James May, 61, and Richard Hammond, 54, were so dehydrated during the trip, that they were unable to relieve themselves for a long time.
According to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “We drank litres and litres of water, and we didn’t pee. I mean, I don’t know where it was going.
“Hammond said after three or four days, ‘I’m going to have to pee.’
“I suddenly thought, ‘I haven’t had a pee this whole time.”
James agreed and added: “We did go a few days without a proper wee, and I’m someone who likes to urinate freely. I mean, not in my trousers, but I don’t like to hold it in.
“When we did a wee, it sort of came out as dust.”
The special will see the trio follow the footsteps of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally, in which they must complete the journey in cheap modified cars.
Jeremy, Richard and James will also traipse across the Sahara Desert and cross dangerous rivers, all whilst protecting their fuel container from exploding.
The petrol head admitted that the journal had been “b****y tough” for the whole production team.
He said: “You know, the funny thing is you don’t get filthy in a desert. It’s a very strange thing but sand is incredibly clean.
“We’ve experienced this in the Atacama and the Gobi and the Nomad and all the places we’ve driven over the years. You don’t get dirty. But it was b”****y tough.”
‘The Grand Tour: Sand Job’ releases on Prime Video on February 16.
