Michael Keaton: 'I almost turned down Beetlejuice'

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Keaton initially turned down ‘Beetlejuice’ because he is “lazy”.
The 65-year-old actor admitted he was reluctant to take on the role of Betelgeuse in the 1988 iconic movie alongside Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Winona Ryder because he didn’t understand director Tim Burton’s vision and he wanted to spend time at home.
He explained: “Sometimes I’m lazy. I just go, “Ah, I don’t know. I’m breeding one of my dogs, or I didn’t take a vacation I should go.
“Sometimes it’s that. Mostly it’s just that I don’t know how to do it. Tim couldn’t really express what Beetlejuice was. It wasn’t so much, ‘No, I refuse’; it was, ‘I really like this guy, but I don’t know what he’s talking about.”
The director and actor also worked together on the 1989 movie ‘Batman’ and Tim admitted that it was Michael’s psychological approach to the part that convinced him to cast him as the caped crusader.
Burton said: “When it came to ‘Batman’, I’d been meeting with these beefy action-hero types, then Michael arrives… He comes in with this whole psychology, approaching it with an almost manic-depressive quality in mind. I thought: now I get it.”
And Quentin Tarantino convinced Michael to star in ‘Jackie Brown’ by getting him drunk.
He told the Daily Telegraph: “I said, ‘You can find 10 guys who can do this better than I can do it,’ and then he got me drunk.”

Natalie Portman would feel silly acting off set

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman would feel “silly” if she tried to stay in character when not filming.
The ‘Jackie’ actress – who is pregnant with her and husband Benjamin Millepied’s second child, a sibling for five-year-old son Aleph – has a lot of “respect” for method actors as she insists there is no way she would be able to immerse herself in a role so deeply, she insisted on carrying it on at home.
She said: “I respect people who are able to stay in character all the time but I can’t do it. I feel really silly.
“I can’t go back to my family and be [in Jackie Kennedy’s voice], like, ‘Hi everyone.!’ [Aleph] would be like, ‘Mum, stop.’ ”
Though the 35-year-old actress feels very lucky she rarely has to audition these days, she admits that can be restricting as she doesn’t get the chance to prove herself in a different type of role.
Asked if she still has to audition, she told OK! magazine: “I am very, very lucky that I don’t usually have to.
“But there’s a downside to that too because people tend to think they know what I can or can’t do.
“Choosing projects, I’m impulsive. A lot depends on the character, the script, the director…
“Nicole Kidman said something to me that stayed with me for so long. We worked together on ‘Cold Mountain’ when I was 21 and she said, ‘You never know how a movie is going to turn out but you can ensure your process is interesting if you’re working with an interesting director.’ ”
And these days Natalie also has to factor in the impact on her family when she’s deciding whether to accept a project.
She explained: “Recently the extra layer is logistics because it takes a big toll on my family to be constantly moving around.
“They’re like, ‘Go to New Zealand for four months!’ And I’m like, ‘What planet are you living on? I have a kid in school!'”

Sienna Miller's partying used to overshadow her career

OHMYGOSSIP — Sienna Miller admits her partying damaged her career.
The ‘Live by Night’ actress has been enjoying an on-screen resurgence in recent years but thinks she’d have had similar success when she was younger, if her personal life hadn’t overshadowed her professional endeavours.
Speaking in the Upcoming The Fans issue of LOVE magazine, she said: “I probably could have had all that I’m experiencing now if I’d been savvier and smarter.
“But I just wanted to have fun and not taper my behaviour in any way and it was hurtful, somehow, to my career.
“I grew up in the 90s watching everyone getting away with what they got away with. I was like, ‘Oh the Gallaghers [did it], f**k it’. ”
And these days, the 35-year-old star – who previously dated Jude Law and has four-year-old daughter Marlowe with ex-fiance Tom Sturridge – is “more boring” and is much more focused on her career.
She said: “I wasn’t focused in the way I am now. I’m also a lot more boring.
“Anyone can say anything and it doesn’t bother me.
“I’m secure in my ability to do my job. Anything else that’s extraneous I don’t care about.
“I just became a mother and grew up.”
Sienna relocated to New York last September and though she adores the home she shares with Tom and their daughter, she admits she won’t be able to stay there forever because it is so expensive.
She said: “I’m not living a realistic life. I rented this amazing house that I can’t afford for long.
“I thought, I’ll have an amazing year and chuck loads of cash at it, so it’s only downhill from here. But I love it.”
And the ‘American Sniper’ star is particularly happy to have enrolled Marlowe in a “progressive” school.
She said: “IT’s so progressive. On the first day they have us a leaflet saying, ‘How to raise an activist.’ It’s so me, it’s perfect.
“In London, it’s a bit more formal and I got freaked out and spent my life saying sorry the whole time.”

The 64-year-old reality star – who was known as Frank before undergoing gender reassignment in 2014 – has been on a number of dates she thought went well, but thinks guys don’t want a relationship with her in case people “judge” them.
She said: “Dating is a sad topic for me. I’m having problems with love. I want to date, of course, but it’s hard. I’ve been on a few good dinner dates with men but when they realise who I am, they make up an excuse and leave or never contact me again.
“I think they’re scared of being judged or it’ my history in boxing – I don’t know.”
And Kellie would like to date a younger man, but thinks it would embarass her daughters, Emma, 39, Sophie, 21, and 15-year-old Libby.

Kellie recently suffered two setbacks when she was rejected by a dating agency and the guy she dined with on ‘Celebrity First Dates’ refused to allow their meeting to be shown on TV.
She said: “I was the only person whose date on ‘First Dates’ wasn’t aired.
“The man said he didn’t want it to be shown because he was embarrassed.

The 29-year-old reality TV star, who previously battled with his weight, spent time in rehab and admitted to being “badly depressed”, has reportedly decided to take some time off from filming the show in order to focus on his wellbeing.

“Mark told me I wasn’t invited to his wedding if I didn’t change. When I went into rehab he got in touch because he was so proud of me.
“Underneath everything I was badly depressed. I was so anxious and tired.”

Shayne Ward is a children's entertainer

OHMYGOSSIP — Shayne Ward has become a children’s entertainer for his ‘Coronation Street’ co-stars’ kids.
The 32-year-old actor has worked wonders on his fellow cast mate Catherine Tydesley’s 22-month-old son Alfie after he was “hired” to put on “private concerts” for him over Christmas, which has led to other colleagues booking the dark-haired hunk – who was crowned champion of ‘The X Factor’ in 2005 – to sing to their broods too.
Speaking about Shayne’s additional part-time job to The Sun Online, Catherine said: “Alfie is a little obsessed with Shayne singing. So over Christmas, we hired Shayne to come and do some private concerts for him. My Alfie really does love him – he’s like a little groupie.
“Every time we’re in the car, he says, ‘Shayne, Shayne,’ so I have to play his album so he will fall asleep. When he first met Shayne, he was awestruck.
“Shayne just held onto his hand and sang to him, and Alfie just stared back mesmerised.
“He’s amazing with kids. Some of the other ‘Corrie’ cast are actually going to hire him to do the same. Kids are just fascinated by his singing.”
And Catherine – who plays the role of Eva Price in the longstanding soap – has revealed the programme’s cast nickname Shayne “Daddy Day Care”.
She explained: “We’ll have to start calling him Daddy Day Care soon.”
Meanwhile, Shayne – who was cast as Aidan Turner in the soap in 2014 – is rumoured to be returning to the music industry in the future and the ‘Coronation Street’ creators support him “fully”.
Speaking previously about the ‘That’s My Goal’ hitmaker’s future projects, a source said: “Shayne can’t wait to start recording his tracks and show the nation was he’s got up his sleeve.
“He has chatted to his ‘Coronation Street’ co-stars about the music and they are all fully behind him. This will in no way impact his ‘Coronation Street’ commitments and he’s certain he can juggle both.”

Calum Best missed Lorraine due to 'crazy' illness

OHMYGOSSIP — Calum Best is “crazy ill.”
The 35-year-old actor was forced to pull out of his appearance on ‘Lorraine’ on Thursday (02.01.17) and his gig on ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ the night before because he was struck down with a mystery illness and didn’t feel up to interviews.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Sincerest apologises to @bbuk and @ITVLorraine been crazy I’ll since leaving the house. Will make it up (sic)”
The hunky star will now appear on ‘Lorraine’ on Monday (06.02.17) to talk about his shock exit from the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house earlier this week.
Lorraine Kelly announced that Calum had cancelled his gig at the last minute yesterday and producers were forced to fill the time with other things.
The Scottish host – who appeared to be slightly confused – told viewers: “Calum’s called and he’s not well, well someone else called for him. We wish him all the best!”
Although the 57-year-old presenter didn’t seem overly convinced that the heartthrob was telling the truth, it’s thought his ill health could have something to do with the ear infection he’s been battling.
Calum – who is the son of the late George Best – revealed he’d been fighting ear ache during his time in the infamous abode during his exit interview with Emma Willis earlier this week and is convinced the excruciating pain had caused him to lose his temper with housemates Jedward.
He said: “I think the whole experience was starting to drain me and I was exhausted by the past few days.
“We had a task and people were telling me for the past two weeks they hadn’t seen me as I’d been so boring. I couldn’t [tell them] that for the past eight to ten days I had an ear infection that was killing me and I wanted to sleep it off.
“They obviously don’t show those kind of things but it was wrecking me. I felt if I wasn’t aired I wasn’t getting much time. So that started to frustrate me and play on my mind.
“Jedward, bless them, they are so good in so many ways but at points when I’m trying to sleep at two in the morning and they’re singing at the top of their lungs.
“I don’t want to give anybody grief but there’s a few times you start saying… they enjoy themselves but I feel sometimes they don’t give that respect back and I think to live in a happy house there has to be mutual respect all around.
“That night I lost it [with them] which obviously didn’t work in my favour as I can tell they are very liked. They are smart, they are successful. I can tell by talking to them they run a good business but when it comes to being people, living in a house and respecting, I found they lacked a bit of it with me, personally, and I think amongst the house, but overall I can’t give them grief as they do well for themselves.”

Dakota Johnson was 'adamant' she would do Fifty Shades

OHMYGOSSIP — Dakota Johnson was “pretty adamant” she would star in the ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy.
The 27-year-old actress’ parents – actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson – were understandably concerned about their daughter playing Anastasia Steele in the raunchy movies but Dakota insists she didn’t give them a “choice” but to let her do it.
She said: “When I was growing up I was taught that women are beautiful. We should be comfortable with our body and there’s nothing wrong with it. That came from my mother …
“I think I am equally as sensitive as I am tough. I just feel things more than the average human maybe. And when it comes to taking on this role, they didn’t have a choice. I was pretty adamant …
“I think they would like to be able to see the movies that have put me in this place in my life, but because it’s pretty inappropriate, they haven’t seen them … They don’t judge me on what projects I decide to do. They judge me on what kind of human I am to other humans.”
And the brunette beauty – who stars in the movie alongside Jamie Dornan – says the latest instalment in the film franchise is “more about discovering Anastasia’s arc as a woman” and Dakota enjoyed being able to film some “emotionally intimate” scenes with her co-star, who has become a close friend.
She added to news.com.au: “This film, as opposed to ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, is more about discovering Anastasia’s arc as a woman and also her sexual journey. She’s trying to figure out who she is and what she likes alongside this other person who is so steadfast in his goals. This film focuses on the details and the relationship between the two people …
“We spent six months shooting the two movies and we became so close. I think that is quite a lucky thing to have happen, especially in this situation because we are so intimate. Even the scenes that are not sexually explicit, they are emotionally intimate so the fact that we get along and can hang out outside of work and do stuff on the weekends, it’s a lot nicer than it could have been.”

Dev Patel defied stereotypes

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel didn’t want to be typecast as “the funny Indian”.
The 26-year-old actor was keen to play a “real” role which is why he decided to audition for Oscar-nominated movie ‘Lion’, according to its director Garth Davis.
He said: “My challenge was how to get Dev Patel to deliver a social-realist performance. As a person, he is amazing.
“He was keen to do a different role and didn’t want to be typecast as the funny Indian. He wanted to play a ‘real’ role. I think we met at the right time, and he worked hard on the role as well.”
And Garth is “thrilled” to see the film has received a number of nominations at this month’s Academy Awards but admits he is a little “disappointed” he missed out on a nod in the Best Director category.
He shared: “It’s incredible to see how well the film has been received. I am happy that the Academy has recognised the [crew’s] passion. I am proud of the fact that through the nominations, the film will have a chance to reach more people and get a wider release. To me, that is the real benefit of the nominations.
“A part of me is probably disappointed, but who can be disappointed when your film gets nominated for Best Picture award? None of the nominations would have happened without me, so, I feel like I am in those nominations. I get my joy from mothers and fathers and refugees who write to me saying how much the film has moved them. They are my nominations.”
Meanwhile, Garth admits it was tricky to make a movie which was based on a true story.
He told the Hindustan Times: “It’s a catch-22, as on one hand, this story was so amazing, and you had access to real people who could add to the script and add dimension to the characters. But you also have a huge responsibility to present their lives in a way that is respectful and honest.”

Kris Marshall will take on jobs for his children

OHMYGOSSIP — Kris Marshall’s future roles will be determined by his children.
The 43-year-old actor has just turned his back on ‘Death in Paradise’, in which he portrayed DI Humphrey Goodman, after four years and, although he thoroughly enjoyed his time on the murder drama series, he’s keen to land a part in a kids’ movie so that his four-year-old son Thomas and baby daughter Elsie can enjoy it as well.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: “I spent about eight months of my year on ‘Death in Paradise’ so it doesn’t leave a massive amount of time to do other stuff. I like to do everything, if I can.
“There’s a lot of roles which I would have loved to have taken that went to other people. I’ll still do films when the opportunity arises. I like to mix it up. Of course, I still have to audition. The general rule of thumb is that if it’s a good job you have to audition for it.
“If I’m prepared, I feel fine. But when you audition in the US you often do three in a day and you’re driving around Los Angeles, so it’s difficult to feel prepared.
“I’ll definitely be considering a lot more for my kids now. Hopefully a few of those will come my way. That would be lovely.”
He’s also hoping his next role will be closer to home as the former ‘My Family’ star spent half the year in Guadeloupe – an island in the southern Caribbean Sea – while he was shooting ‘Death in Paradise’ and made a 16-hour trip back to Britain every six weeks so that he could see his children and his wife Hannah for a few days.
He explained: “It was very hard because my daughter was only three months old when I left. In some ways it was easier for me than it was my wife, as I didn’t have the sleepless nights. I got to leave all of that behind. But it was tough being away from her every day and missing her. I got to come back a bit more than I normally would for a few days every six weeks. But my daughter grew massively between visits. Thankfully she still recognised me when I got back, so it was all right. She’s sick of me now, though.”

Julie Hesmondhalgh was 'scared' of Broadchurch role

OHMYGOSSIP — Julie Hesmondhalgh was “scared” of taking on the role of a rape victim in ‘Broadchurch’.
The 46-year-old actress has admitted she was in two minds about accepting the part of Trish Winterman in the new series of the popular crime drama because she was concerned that the harrowing storyline would be portrayed in an incorrect way.
She explained: “Obviously, there’s been a lot of discussion about the televising of sexual violence and the way that it’s almost normalised in our culture now. Putting a face to that was something that I really had to think about. It took a conversation with Chris [Chibnall, series creator] – because I didn’t know Chris and I didn’t know what his politics were around this issue. I needed to know that it was going to be handled in the right way.”
And the former ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who was known for playing transgender Hayley Cropper in the long-running soap – was baffled as to why she was approached for the role because she didn’t think her look suited the image created in the series.
She said: “Even in the very fact that it’s me that has been cast as the person who’s experienced this… I think that’s very interesting.
“I’m an ordinary-looking, middle-aged woman, rather than the classic ‘young girl being chased through the woods’ – I think that in itself is quite an interesting take on it.
“I had to look at some of my own internalised… misogyny really, because I had fears that the audience wouldn’t buy that this could happen to someone like me.
“But obviously this isn’t an act of sex and desire, it’s an act of violence and it happens to all people – men, women and children.”
But Julie’s biggest challenge was ensuring that she did real-life rape victims justice.
She said: “I’m always really aware when you’re playing a role like this that I am an actor doing it and I’m not going through it for real,” she explained. “You’ve got to be careful not to be a twat about things like that!
“You can’t say, ‘Oh it’s so hard for me, acting’s hard…’ when people are actually going through it. How much of a w****r would you be to say, ‘It’s been really, really hard…’
“I suppose the hardest thing is the responsibility you feel, because you do want to get it right, because you’re representing a group of people who are actually going through something for real, and we wanted to show that in the best and truest way we can.”
