Bradley Cooper stays focused with cold plunges

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Cooper meditates in freezing temperatures as soon as he wakes up.
The 49-year-old actor, whose ‘Maestro’ movie about troubled composer Leonard Bernstein is nominated for seven Oscars including best actor for Bradley who played the conductor, said he doesn’t really consider his cold baths a ritual to prepare for roles, but admitted it is helping him stay focused.
He told The New York Times: “James Nachtwey (a photographer commissioned by the Times) asked me if there are any rituals I do to prepare for a role.
“I said not really but mentioned that I do cold plunge every morning when I get up.”
Bradley made the admission as part of a piece by James for the Times that saw him photograph A-listers doing what they loved away from film sets.
The ‘A Star is Born’ actor added about the shoot that saw him captured swinging a hammer in the snow before he took a cold plunge: “We were outside next to a creek, and we looked at each other and thought: ‘OK? Let’s give it a shot.’
“It was much colder than the cold plunge I’m used to – and unfortunately, I didn’t have a towel or a change of clothes. But we had a good laugh.”
Photojournalist James, 75, who is known for his intimate depictions of the front lines in warzones such as like Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine, had never photographed a movie star before, but was sent to do so by the Times for its ‘Great Performers’ issue.
His other shots for the project included Da’Vine Joy Randolph, 37, shopping for fabrics and Paul Giamatti, 56, reading in his favourite second hand book store.
“My work has focused almost exclusively on conflicts and critical social issues, the polar opposite of what might be thought of as celebrity photography,” Nachtwey says. But he was intrigued by the challenge: “Art takes talent, but it’s also hard work, and exploring what actors practice in their daily lives to strengthen their art would be fascinating.”

Love Island’s Faye Winter in ‘a really dark place’ after finding fame: ‘I didn’t deserve the hate!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Faye Winter was in a “really dark place” after finding fame on ‘Love Island’.
The 28-year-old TV star competed on the hit reality dating show during its seventh series in 2021 but has now claimed that the whole experience took a toll on her mental health but she didn’t want to speak out about it at the time.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Fabulous magazine for their new YouTube series ‘Shamed’: “At one point, when I came out of Love Island, I thought I was the worst person in the world. Not many people get to see their flaws played out in front of everyone.
“Did it impact my mental health? Yes. Was I in a really dark place? Yes. Do I think I deserved the hate? No.
“But I didn’t want to come out and talk about that side of it . . . I didn’t want to sound like a cop out.”
The former ‘Celebrity Masterchef’ contestant also claimed that she “felt so alone” after her time in the villa and turned to therapy after finding that the “stress” of everything had caused her to lose a drastic amount of weight.
She said: “It was bad. Especially when I lived away from my friends and family. I felt so alone. That was a dangerous time for me. I wasn’t doing it because I thought I was fat. I was really stressed.
“I never thought I was one of those people. I didn’t even know what anxiety was.”
During an infamous moment from her time on the ITV2 series Faye had had been seen accusing then-boyfriend Teddy Soares of lying during the Casa Amor stage of the show in a rant that sparked 25,000 Ofcom complaints and admitted there were “other ways” she could have handled the situation but claimed that the trolling she received as “horrendous” even though she had tried apologising to her former co-star.
She said: ” I apologised to him numerous times and I spent 18 months of my life trying to make it up to him.
“I wasn’t in a good place mentally. I started to believe (the comments) and that’s difficult. It’s one thing getting trolled and thinking, ‘OK, you think that, but I see myself differently’ but when you start to question it yourself, that’s when it’s really difficult.”
Despite their explosive row – during which Faye had said the word “f***” a total of 57 times – the couple eventually finished in third place of the show and dated until February 2023, but Faye confirmed that they now no longer speak to each other.

Tim Mielants and Cillian Murphy tried to work on a movie together ‘for a while’ after Peaky Blinders

OHMYGOSSIP — Tim Mielants had been trying to work with Cillian Murphy on a movie “for a while” after ‘Peaky Blinders’ finished.
The 44-year-old director was at the helm of the third series of the acclaimed period drama series that starred Cillian as gangster Thomas Shelby and the pair had been looking for a cinematic project to work on when the actor landed the leading role in the Oscar-nominated ‘Oppenheimer’.
Now, the pair have finally got the chance to work together again on the historical drama ‘Small Things Like These’, in which CIllian plays Irishman Bill Furlong who makes a shocking discovery over the festive period in the mid-1980s.
Tim told The Hollywood Reporter: “Me and Cillian wanted to work with each other for a while, we really wanted to get back together [after ‘Peaky Blinders’]. We were looking for themes and stories we wanted to tell. This was pre-‘Oppenheimer’.
“And we talked about ideas, and he and his wife came to me with [Claire Keegan’s] book. It was something, thematically, that I really understood, from a personal level. So I was totally up for it. We started writing it and developing it.
The film is being produced by Hollywood star Matt Damon – whom Cillian had met on the set of ‘Oppenheimer’ – and Tim explained that even though their project was initially sidetracked because of other big movies, it all finally came together in the end.
“Then ‘Oppenheimer’ came along. And Cillian was doing that and I was doing another movie [Belgian period drama ‘Wil’]. While making ‘Oppenheimer’, he met Matt Damon, and they really had a good relationship. And Matt Damon said he loved the project and got on board [with Actors Equity]. So, post-Oppenheimer, all the dots came together.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Brenda Blethyn is always thinking about retirement.
The 77-year-old actress has starred in the title role of the hit ITV1 detective series ‘Vera’ since 2011 and although thinks about giving it all up when she spends long days shooting on location in the North East of England but she has reassured fans that the show is not over yet and that it is a “joy” to work on overall.
She is quoted by The Daily Star newspaper’s HotTV column as saying: “I think about retiring nearly every day… when my feet are aching. We are not finished with it yet. It’s a joy to work on. There are no egos in sight. Everyone is enthusiastic and very diligent and wants it to work well. There’s nobody phoning it in.”
Since beginning her tenure as the detective in the hit series – which is based on the books by Ann Cleeves – Brenda has starred in the role of seaside cafe owner Kate in the short-lived ITV1 sitcom ‘Kate and Koji’ but towards the end of last year that she considered quitting when her co-star Kenny Doughty left the show until she managed to get David Leon to return.
She told Radiotimes.com: “After we filmed ‘The Rising Tide’ at the end of 2022, I didn’t want to do any more without Kenny Doughty, who had decided to leave.
“But I said, ‘I’ll think about it, if you can see if David Leon is available to return as Joe Ashworth.’ And so they did, and here I am.
“I was broken-hearted when David left after series four, and equally overjoyed when I heard he was coming back, as the relationship between Vera and Joe worked so well. They have all of that early history together.
” I wouldn’t have continued if David had not agreed to come back. I just didn’t want to start another board game with somebody else when I know I’m not going to do many more. And who would want to do it, anyway?

Love Island star Tasha Ghouri speaks out on trolling over her ‘deaf accent’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tasha Ghouri faced online abuse over her “deaf accent” after appearing on ‘Love Island’.
The 25-year-old reality star reached the final of ITV2 reality series with boyfriend Andrew Le Page in 2022 and had made history as the first-ever deaf contestant on the series but when viewers noticed that her voice sounds drastically different when she takes her cochlea out, she was subjected to online abuse.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she told stand-in host Ranvir Singh: “When I have my implant in, I can hear my voice but when I take it out I can hear a vibration from my throat. I can’t hear what tone it is or how loud. It’s weird because when I put it back on, I go back to my normal voice. While I was on the show, not many people understood the way I spoke the way I did. That’s probably the main trolling I received, people make TikToks taking the mick out of my voice.”
The influencer recently made a viral TikTok where she talked at length using her “deaf accent” and encouraged others to “embrace” their unique voice even though she admitted she had been “nervous” to post the clip in the first place.
Meanwhile, Tasha is still in a relationship with her ‘Love Island’ co-star Andrew, 28, and revealed that he recently surprised her by getting a tattoo written in sign language dedicated to her.
She said: “It’s basically ASL saying ‘I love you’ in American Sign Language. He came home and surprised me with it and I was like ‘What?!’ His support has been incredible, he loves me for me and that helps me be my vulnerable self. Not everyone is gonna love you and that’s okay. But I’m so passionate about making the best out of my platform.”

Michelle Yeoh cast in high-octane action movie The Mother

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Yeoh is to star in the action thriller ‘The Mother’.
The Oscar-winning actress has been cast in the high-octane movie from director Melanie Laurent.
Michelle will play the role of Ann, an immigrant mother and businesswoman who is looking to make the best of her new life in America for her family.
When her two teenage sons stumble into trouble with a corrupt Boston cop and a crime ring, Ann has no choice but to rekindle her past and will stop at nothing until her kids are safe.
The movie will shoot this summer and has Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee producing for Thunder Road alongside Arthur Sarkissian and John Schramm.
The film will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin this week.
Michelle became the first Asian performer to win the Oscar for Best Actress last year for her role as Evelyn Quan Wang in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and expressed hope that her achievement would create a path forward for both herself and others.
The 61-year-old star told Variety: “The most important thing it has done is it has generated such pride with our people.
“The day I won I honestly heard the roar of joy that came from that corner of the world. It’s been slowly moving in that way and this has pushed the door open and it’s not shutting behind me… When there’s so few roles in the past it’s so competitive. If you get the job, I don’t get the job.
“But now we have to change the mindset. If I’m successful, you can be successful.”

Gladiators star Cobra says he earned more from panto than the show

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Wilson earned more appearing in a pantomime than he did on ‘Gladiators’.
The 60-year-old athlete, whose alter-ego was ‘Cobra’ on the classic British game show from the ’90s, revealed that the cheques he received from the programme were a lot smaller than the ones he earned from his pantomime appearances.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “People don’t realise the best money really weekly was panto. When you see the papers often say, ‘They’ve ended up doing some panto’, and some of these big soap stars were getting £20,000 a week. Frank Bruno was on £25,000 a week in the ’80s.
“He used to get a ribbing for it, but it was that much money in the ’80s, let alone now. Paul O’Grady, when he appeared in the Birmingham Hippodrome, he was on £100,000 a week short-term.
“The best money I got was from that and personal appearances. You might have five in a week and we get between £750 and £2,000.”
The athlete also admitted he didn’t like the new outfits for the BBC reboot.
He said: “The outfits … They’re really unflattering and just horrible really. I thought they could have done a lot more with them.
Michael then revealed that he found a lot of fan interactions over social media are “really rude”.
He explained: “They are actually really rude. They send pictures of them wearing stockings and suspenders. I don’t know why they think it’s enticing because it isn’t. Some of them are shocking but I guess it’s flattering really – but I can’t say I’m interested.
“Back in the day, there we didn’t have phones with cameras and social media, instead we just got loads and loads of stuff in the post and fan mail for me anyway
“Right from the very start, we were up in a press office where someone handled my post for me, and they said ,’Sometimes people seem to like sending you really filthy letters.’
“Sometimes they seem to send public hair in the post. I laughed and said, ‘Well, you better keep them and we will make a wig for Wolf’. Well, c’mon he used to talk about being bald and stuff all the time, and I used to tell him to shave it off. After he eventually did it, he said he wished he had done it years ago.”

Ruth Jones denies Gavin and Stacey Christmas special is in development

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Jones has dismissed claims that a new ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Christmas special is in the works.
The 57-year-old actress, who plays Nessa in the beloved British comedy, wrote the show with James Corden from 2007 to 2010, as well as its festive episode five years ago. Recently, it was rumoured that another Christmas one-off was in development, with Netflix attempting to outbid the BBC for the episode, but Ruth has now dismissed the claims as nothing but hearsay.
During an appearance on RTE Radio 1, she said: “It’s sadly a rumour… All I can say is, if there was something to say on that front, James and I would happily announce it, we would.
“Apparently there’s a bidding war going on between the BBC and Netflix and I love it because it says ‘a source says’, who is this source?”
Ruth theorised that the rumours came to be after she was pictured having lunch with James in the U.S. after he had finished his stint as the presenter on the ‘Late Late Show’.
She explained: “Then the next thing is ‘Oh my god they must be writing more ‘Gavin and Stacey’, which is lovely.
“It’s lovely that people are so desperate for it because imagine if it was the opposite and were like ‘Oh, god, you’re not bringing that back again’.”
On Tuesday (13.02.24) it was reported that the cast would reunite for another festive special, and that Mathew Horne (Gavin) Joanna Page (Stacey) Alison Steadman (Pam) and Larry Lamb (Mick) have all agreed to return.
A source told The Sun: “Ruth and James have always maintained they will bring the show back only if they are 100 per cent happy with the script — and they are almost there.
“They rang individual members of the cast to float the idea of a one-off special, and every single person was excited and on board.
“To be clear, no agents were called, and no one bar James and Ruth has seen the script — but there’s a lot of goodwill here.”

Dakota Johnson: Drastic changes were made to the Madame Web script

OHMYGOSSIP — Dakota Johnson has revealed that “drastic changes” were made to the script of ‘Madame Web’ after she was cast in the film.
The 34-year-old actress plays the titular character in the new superhero movie and explained how the script was altered completely once she had signed up for the flick.
Dakota told TheWrap: “There were drastic changes. And I can’t even tell you what they were.”
The star’s character in the Sony Spider-Man Universe movie has the ability to see the future but this meant an increased workload as she needed to film several versions of the same scene.
Johnson said: “It added so many different camera set-ups, like triple the amount of work.
“And it was very complex, and there’s only like minor differences between each version of the same scene, so it was like puzzle pieces, and really paying attention to what moment we’re in, and what angle we’re in, and continuity and things like that.”
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ explained that she often found it challenging to keep up with what she had to be shooting and had to rely on director S.J. Clarkson to bail her out.
Dakota said: “Yes, I did get very lost and S.J. always knew exactly where we were, which was really incredible.”
Johnson’s alter ego Cassie Webb is a New York City paramedic who develops psychic abilities and she revealed her excitement at getting the chance to do stunt driving as it differed from a conventional superhero flick.
She told Collider: “I was excited for the action in the movie because it’s not your typical superhero movie where there’s, like, insane fighting. It feels, for Cassie, a little bit more grounded and scrappy, so I was looking forward to that.
“And then the stunt driving, I was really excited about. And then, weirdly the blue screen work at first was something I had to get used to. There wasn’t very much of it, but I ended up having a really good time because you just kind of let your imagination go nuts and I found it really fun.
“I was so excited. I mean, I like driving and I’m okay at it, but when I learned how to do that, it was just like, ‘Oh, great!'”

Lorraine Kelly admits she ‘wasn’t wonderful’ on The Masked Singer: ‘I’d never sung in public before!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorraine Kelly doesn’t think she was “wonderful” on ‘The Masked Singer’.
The 64-year-old presenter took part in the ITV1 singing competition in which celebrities conceal their identities under extravagant costumes and performed pop hits like Kylie Minogue’s ‘Padam Padam’ but after being unmasked as Owl, admitted that even though she had never sung in public before, it was still such a “joy” to do the show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning, she said: “I wasn’t wonderful because I’ve never sung in public before but the joy is that you can’t see anything when that head goes on. I couldn’t see the audience, I didn’t have to do anything, I was just worried about learning the lines.
“I’d never done it before and where could you get the opportunity to sing in front of an audience and to have such a lot of fun? There is not enough silliness in the world! It was just a joy to do, it is just a joyous show.”
The daytime TV legend has carved out an illustrious career on screen over the years, having first presented ‘TV-am’ in the 1980s and going on to launch ‘GMTV’ in the years that followed before landing her own show ‘Lorraine’ in 2010 but insisted that she is always wanting to move with the times.
She said: “I feel incredibly lucky. I still love it, every single day is different, and every day is a school day.
“I love the fact that I’ve got a team of all ages; the young ones keep me young and keep me right! It’s like my daughter [Rosie], she helps me with technology because you’ve got to keep up with things and you’ve got to be curious about things. Curiosity is the best possible thing, isn’t it?”

John Cleese bashes Eric Idle amid Monty Python row: ‘We always loathed each other’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cleese has hit back at Eric Idle amid their ‘Monty Python’ feud.
The 84-year-old comedian, who starred alongside Eric, 80, in the beloved BBC show, bit back at his former co-star after he revealed he “made no money” from the programme.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) John wrote: “We have always loathed and despised each other, but it’s only recently that the truth has begun to emerge.”
Eric blamed Holly Gilliam, manager of the franchise and daughter of ‘Python’ star Terry Gilliam, for his financial troubles.
In a post to the social media platform, he wrote: “I don’t know why people always assume we’re loaded. ‘Python’ is a disaster. ‘Spamalot’ made money 20 years ago. I have to work for my living. Not easy at this age.
“We own everything we ever made in Python and I never dreamed that at this age the income streams would tail off so disastrously.
“But I guess if you put a Gilliam child in as your manager you should not be so surprised. One Gilliam is bad enough. Two can take out any company.”
John dismissed Eric’s claims, and called her very “pleasant” to work with.
He said: “I have worked with Holly for the last ten years.
“I find her very efficient, clear-minded, hard-working, and pleasant to have dealings with. Michael Palin has asked me to make it clear that he shares this opinion. Terry Gilliam is also in agreement with this.”
Despite losing out, Eric emphasised that he was “fine” and didn’t mind still having to work.
He wrote: “I’m fine. I’m engaged and writing. It’s the thing I do and like the most. Creating a new show. Something that feels so completely normal. Been doing it since 1963. I have learned a lot. But then I had some great mentors.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie McGlynn has confirmed her relationship with ‘TOWIE’ star Ricky Rayment.

She captioned the post: “Every day is like Valentine’s Day with you”.
In the photos, the happy couple can be seen on various outings together and in one snap are sharing a kiss.
Raymond, 33, appeared on ‘The Only Way is Essex’ from 2012 until 2015 whilst Katie got her big break when she was cast as teenage tearaway Jodie ‘Scout’ Allen in school-based drama ‘Waterloo Road’, with ‘Emmerdale’ star Lisa Riley appearing as the character’s unfit mother.
In 2013, she joined ‘Corrie’ as the niece of Beth Tinker (Lisa George) and went on to marry Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) but passed away in 2019 after a battle with cervical cancer.

She wrote on Instagram: “I can’t quite believe it’s been four years since we said goodbye to Sinead Tinker… a character I’ll always cherish playing!
“As you all know, Sinead died from cervical cancer… so please ladies, don’t forget to go for your smears, it could quite literally save your life.”

Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper reveals why she would never propose to her boyfriend in real life

OHMYGOSSIP — Eden Taylor-Draper would not propose to her boyfriend – unlike her ‘Emmerdale’ character.
The 26-year-old actress – who recently moved in with boyfriend Ed Lewis after eight years of dating – plays not Belle Dingle on the ITV1 soap opera and her character popped the question to Tom King (James Chase) at Christmas, but she will not be getting down on one knee in real life even though it was her mum who proposed to her dad.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “My boyfriend and I are happy. We live together now and he is very supportive of my role in Emmerdale. Stereotypically, it’s the guy who tends to get down on one knee, and getting married is all Belle has ever wanted, which is why she proposed.
“But no, I won’t be proposing if I ever marry – even though my mum did!
“Dad kept asking mum for ages to marry him, but she kept saying ‘no, not yet’. Then, when she realised he had stopped asking her, she was like ‘oh no, what do I do?’ So, she asked him on New Year’s Eve. It was so cool that she did.”
The soap star also teased that there is “a lot” coming up for her alter-ego when it comes to her on-screen nuptials including one incident that leads her character to questioning everything about her decision to get married in the first place.
She said: “A lot happens at the reception. I won’t say what, but I think that does change things a bit, as she can tell he’s getting annoyed about little things. I think she is just saying to herself ‘it is fine, it’s fine,’ and then, right at the end of the day, something happens that just makes her think, ‘have I done the right thing? Is this the right man for me?’”

Dancing on Ice judges Torvill and Dean announce retirement 40 years on from Olympic success

OHMYGOSSIP — Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have announced their retirement.
The figure skating duo received the highest-ever score of all time and took the Gold at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics following their Bolero routine but on the 40th anniversary of their victory, they have decided it is time to hang up their skates for good following a farewell tour in April next year.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Wednesday (14.02.24), Christopher explained: “Well, 40 years ago…it’s a long time. And next year, in 2025, we have been skating together for 50 years and we felt that was a really nice round number to say that we have had a wonderful time and it is time to hang up our skates and no more touring, except for the last tour that we’re hoping to do next year.”
Jayne – who has been married to Phil Christensen since 1990 and has Kieran and Jessica with him – added that the tour will be a “celebration” of everything that they have been through since starting their careers together and Christopher revealed that even though it is Valentine’s Day, they actually wish each other a “Happy Bolero Day” in honour of their triumph with the routine that was set to the classic piece of music byt French composer Maurice Ravel.
Outside of their career in the rink, Jayne and Christopher have become regular faces on the judging panel of ITV skating show ‘Dancing on Ice’, and in recent years have seen celebrities such as gymnast Nile Wilson, dancer Regan Gascoigne and Capital FM DJ Sonny Jay take the crown on the show but also tend to perform themselves numerous times per series.
It is not known if the duo will continue in their roles following the current series but Christopher – who has Jack,25, and Sam, 23, with fellow figure skater Jill Trenary but is now in a relationship with Karen Barber – revealed his plans to buy a motorhome and go around the UK in it.
He said: “My partner Karen has always wanted a motorhome so we’re going to go motorhoming. I had one when I lived in America. It was 31ft long, and it was a nightmare, but my kids loved it.
“This will be a lot smaller and we want to drive around the UK, especially Scotland, because we haven’t seen a lot of it.”

Gavin and Stacey special in bidding war between Netflix and BBC

OHMYGOSSIP — Netflix are bidding for the new ‘Gavin and Stacey’ special, a source has claimed.
The beloved comedy, which is written by James Corden and Ruth Jones, is reportedly set to return for another one-off Christmas special this year, five years after the first. However, an industry insider has suggested that Netflix is interested in buying the rights to the episode from the BBC.
A source told The Sun: “Obviously the show has a special history with the BBC, and this seems like its natural and obvious home. Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore has spoken to the pair [James and Ruth] and made it clear she wants the show to stay put, but Netflix have also made it very, very explicit that they want to air it.
“The provisional Netflix offer, coming as it does from a global conglomerate, dwarfs anything that the Beeb could offer — but Ruth and James aren’t about the money.
“They simply want to offer fans the best viewing experience possible, and, essentially, get as many bums on seats to watch their baby.
“It would be a huge coup for Netflix to steal this flagship British comedy from the nose of the BBC and, indeed, there may be a world in which this happens.”
The insider also claimed that no one other than James and Ruth, who play Smithy and Nessa, have seen the script.
However, the pair have reportedly floated the special to other cast members, including Mathew Horne and Joanna Page (Gavin and Stacey), who have agreed to the episode.
The source said: “Ruth and James have always maintained they will bring the show back only if they are 100 per cent happy with the script — and they are almost there.
“They rang individual members of the cast to float the idea of a one-off special, and every single person was excited and on board.
“To be clear, no agents were called, and no one bar James and Ruth has seen the script — but there’s a lot of goodwill here.”
