Martin Kemp sparks rumours he is to return to EastEnders?

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Kemp has hinted that he could be returning to ‘EastEnders’.
The 55-year-old actor – who starred in the BBC soap as villain Steve Owen from 1998 and saw him involved in unforgettable story lines including killing his partner Saskia Duncan and being a suspect in the shooting of Phil Mitchell – said he “wouldn’t say no” to returning to the soap, despite his character before being killed off in 2002 in a car crash.
Revealing how he could be making a sensation return to a TV show, he said: “I was just asked to be in one recently, but I can’t tell you which one!”
And when asked further which soap he would love to work on, he told the Daily Express Online: “I had a great time on ‘EastEnders’, I would never say no to anything. I would never sit here and say, ‘I would never do that’.”
And the Spandau Ballet star – who also starred in 2003’s ‘The Brides in the Bath’ and 2004’s ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ before recently appearing on Gary Barlow’s ‘Let It Shine’ talent show as a judge – insisted he doesn’t know what work he has coming up but said it was all part of the “excitement”.
He said: “Most of the fun that comes in this business is not knowing what’s around the corner, not knowing what the next email is, so I always look at something when it comes and think how much fun can I get out of that and that’s the excitement of doing what I do.”
And while Martin is yet to confirm any future TV work, the star is looking forward to spending some quiet quality time with his wife Shirlie Holliman for the pair’s upcoming 30th anniversary.
He told The Daily Mail newspaper: ”At the most, if you’re talking about me and Shirley on our anniversary, it will be me and Shirley going out for a nice dinner together. I’ve never thrown a big party in my life.”

Joe Manganiello almost played Superman

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Manganiello was almost offered the role of Superman in ‘Man of Steel’.
The 40-year-old actor has revealed he got as far as being measured for the famous superhero costume in preparation for taking on the role in the 2013 movie – which eventually cast Henry Cavill as Clark Kent and his lycra-clad alter ego – but claimed his commitments to the HBO supernatural drama ‘True Blood’ kept him from being offered the role.
Speaking during an interview for MTV’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Joe said: “I met with Zack [Snyder, the movie’s director]. I had an hour and a half long meeting with Zack, which is what was causing all the trouble … I went ahead and met with casting, and then they all brought me over to meet Zack. I met the producers, I met with Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull at Legendary, I met everybody – everybody involved – and then finally sat down with Zack for an hour and a half and had a big conversation about the character and where it was going, et cetera. Then they called the ‘True Blood’ costume shop for my measurements to build my suit and that’s what caused – that’s when it stopped.”
Although Joe missed out on the chance to play Superman, he hasn’t been banned from the DC Comics universe completely, as it was previously announced he would be taking on the role of Deathstroke in ‘The Batman’ alongside Ben Affleck.
He said about his role: “I’m very excited. I just started kung fu, qigong and cutting with a live katana blade. That’s been a lot of fun.
“I grew up rooting for the villain. These characters mean so much to so many people and there’s a real opportunity to polarise an audience or have them walk away maybe not agreeing with my character but understanding why he does what he does. That’s a really fun challenge.”

Sam Claflin says Gemma Arterton 'pushed' him as an actor

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Claflin says Gemma Arterton helped “push” him as an actor.
The 30-year-old actor stars with the brunette beauty in the romantic comedy ‘Their Finest’, and has praised his co-star for her ability to push him to be the best he can be, and receive the same motivation in return.
He said: “We’re now officially very good friends. She’s not afraid of pushing you as an actor; and she’s not afraid of being pushed.
“On the set of ‘Their Finest’ I accidentally knocked her over when I ran into her. She went flying. She forgave me though.”
‘Their Finest’ tells the story of an introspective film producer, played by Claflin, who hires a woman (Arterton) to help him write the stories for the government’s propaganda unit in World War II.
And it’s not the only war movie Claflin is working on either, as he’s also recently wrapped filming on a screen version of the R.C. Sherriff play ‘Journey’s End’, in which he plays Captain Stanhope.
Director Saul Dibb said of Claflin’s performance: “Sam goes to very dark places in ‘Journey’s End’. He looks like a man who has endured the awful things that happened over there.”
But acting wasn’t always something that Claflin – who rose to fame after portraying Finnick Odair in ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise – wanted to do, as he always thought he would be a footballer before he broke his ankle aged 16.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I ate, drank and slept football. I have played every single position bar goalkeeper. I didn’t have any inkling of what I wanted to do with my life, other than play or coach or live football.
“My mum always says that even when I was playing football, I was still a drama queen.”
‘Their Finest’ hits screens on April 21, whilst ‘Journey’s End’ is expected to be released later this year.

Guy Ritchie had doubts about Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur

OHMYGOSSIP — Guy Ritchie has confessed he never wanted Charlie Hunnam for ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ role.
The 48-year-old filmmaker is getting ready to release his adventure film which based on the British legend which describes how King Arthur drew the sword Excalibur from a stone and became the country’s protector in the 5th century and early 6th century.
The movie has a stellar cast that also includes Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Eric Bana and Annabelle Wallis and even a cameo from soccer superstar David Beckham but Ritchie wasn’t initially sure that Hunnam was his Arthur but the 36-year-old British actor wouldn’t take no for an answer and even paid for his own flight from Los Angeles to London so he could audition for the role.
Ritchie said: “I had hundreds of actors, Charlie wasn’t on my list. But Charlie was so insistent that he was going to be King Arthur that he became King Arthur, in spite of my reticence.”
But he admitted that just because Hunnam was hungry for the role wasn’t the reason he beat off competition from others that auditioned.
The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ filmmaker said: “The only guy that could sustain my interest was Charlie. So he won it fair and square, in spite of my prejudice.”
Hunnam recently revealed that Ritchie taught him the basics of the Japanese martial art whilst on set for the feature.
He said: “Guy is a black belt in jiu-jujitsu so I got into doing a little bit of jiu-jits with ol’ Ritchie. That’s right my friend. He likes to stay active on set and you know, just keep things fun, so we’d have ourselves a little roll around.”

‘The Flood’ tells the story of Headey’s as yet unnamed character, who is an immigration officer tasked with deciding the fate of a seemingly dangerous asylum seeker, played by Jeremiah.

According to Screen Daily, ‘Northern Soul’ actor Jack Gordon has also been confirmed to be joining the cast, though his role has not yet been reported.
Headey will also work as a producer on the project, which is due to start principal photography on Monday (10.04.17) in filming locations across London and Calais, France.
Anthony Woodley is on board to direct the project, working from a script written by Helen Kingston. Luke Healy will produce alongside Headey and executive producer Julie-Anne Uggla.
Headey said of the project previously: “Helen has written a beautiful script that manages to highlight the complexity of the refugee crisis whilst telling an intimate human story, without ever demanding where the audience should stand. I’m very happy to be a part of this.”
In addition to ‘The Flood’ and his ongoing work on ‘Game of Thrones’, Glen – who is also known for his role as Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the ‘Resident Evil’ movie franchise – will next be seen in ‘My Cousin Rachel’ which hits screens on June 9. Patty Jenkins: There's still a million superhero stories to be told

OHMYGOSSIP — Patty Jenkins says there’s a “million movies to be told” using superheroes.
The 45-year-old American director-and-screenwriter helmed the upcoming ‘Wonder Woman’ film – the latest release in the DC Extended Universe – with Gal Gadot reprising her role as the titular character for the second time following her first outing in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
It’s the first female-led superhero film fans have been given and although the cinemas are awash with films based on DC Comics and Marvel characters, Jenkins thinks there are still many more stories to explore with the various rich characters.
Speaking during a Q&A session at Anaheim WonderCon 2017, she said: “There’s a million movies to be told with [these] common characters. That’s the great thing about the diversity of superheroes, and one of the reasons why when people say, ‘Is the superhero thing gonna die?’ or whatever, I always think it’s so much bigger than that.”
DC films – made in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures – that have been big box office success include ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, starring Christian Bale as Batman, and more recently ‘Suicide Squad’, while the Marvel Cinematic Universe includes hits such as the three ‘Iron Man’ films, the two ‘Avengers’ movies and ‘Ant-Man’.
Jenkins, 45, believes the superhero stories in the pages of comics and on the screen are as important to modern culture as the Greek and Roman myths and are useful characters to explore the nature of morality.
She explained: “It’s not about superheroes. It’s about the method of universal storytelling that all people have that is not of one religion, one thing, that America ended up inventing as a way to tell these metaphors about all different kinds of states of being. So to me, they’re the same as the Greek myth, they’re the same as the Roman myth, or religious figures of every religion.”
She continued: “These are our common characters that we use to express stories about being a better person, or what you would do if you were faced with various things. So for me, that’s an incredibly powerful thing.”
‘Wonder Woman’ – also starring Chris Pine, David Thewlis and Robin Wright – hits cinemas in June.

Gemma Collins for Celebs Go Dating?

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins is “really keen” to do the next series of ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star is desperate to sign up to the forthcoming instalment of the E4 dating show because she’s hopeful that it can help her find her future husband.
A source said: “Gemma is keen to go on ‘Celebs Go Dating’. She has seen lots of her friends and colleagues go on the show and thinks it will help her find a boyfriend.”
However, the 36-year-old reality TV beauty has already hit an obstacle as bosses aren’t so keen to sign her up to the show as they don’t think they’ll be able to find the type of men the curvaceous blonde tends to go for.
An insider explained to The Sun newspaper: “The show’s producers aren’t quite as keen. They worry that finding the sort of men Gemma is interested in would be difficult as she known for dating bad boys and criminals.
“She would obviously make great value on the show though.”
Gemma’s determination to find a boyfriend stems from the fact she’d really like to have a family of her own but she recently admitted that a man won’t stop her from achieving her dreams of becoming a mother as she’ll do it “on her own” if need be.
She said: “I still hope. If I don’t ever meet that man, I will go onto have a baby on my own because I do think that I have a lot of love to give and I could give a child a lovely life. If I go ahead and do it on my own, and as much as I love the dream of the whole family unit, all sitting round the table, if it doesn’t happen I will go ahead and do it on my own. Nothing is going to stop me because the feeling of that unfulfillment.
“I will have a child, I just don’t know how it will happen yet.”
Although the television personality was told by a medical expert that freezing her eggs would be unsuccessful, she would “never rule out” adoption.

Jamie O'Hara to join The Only Way is Essex?

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie O’Hara wants to join ‘The Only Way is Essex’.
The 30-year-old footballer – who was born in Dartford, Kent – thinks he’s the perfect candidate for the ITVBe reality TV show because he has so much “drama” going on in his life at the moment that would prove hilarious viewing for fans of the show.
Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday (06.04.17), he wrote: “Jesus with the drama in my life I should be on towie, (sic)” followed by a laughing crying emoji.
The hunk may have made a name for himself as a sportsman but Jamie is certainly no stranger to reality TV as he took part in ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in January.
He proved a huge a hit with viewers and managed to make it through to the final week of the competition but found himself in hot water with his ex-wife Danielle Lloyd when he left the infamous abode because he’d discussed their divorce on television.
The matter is now thought to be in the hands of lawyers after the brunette beauty allegedly banned her former lover from seeing their three children; Archie, six, Harry, five and George, three, last month after he failed to pick them up on time because he’d accidentally locked his keys in a venue in London following a charity event.
Jamie reportedly emailed the reality TV star in the early hours of the morning to tell her that he wouldn’t be able to pick up their children on time from their home in Birmingham because he was stuck in the English capital.
But it wasn’t just Danielle who was fuming with Jamie after the slip up as the three boys were also let down because they’d reportedly only seen him once since he left the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house in February.
Danielle was forced to defend herself after Jamie – who she divorced in 2014 after he allegedly cheated on her – took a swipe at her on social media shortly after his exit from the house by accusing her of ordering him to go back to court to see the boys.
He fumed at the time: “ex wife wont let me go and watch my own kids play football and says if I turn up there will be trouble, have to go back to court for access Drove all the way to Birmingham to be told that access has been stopped and I have to go back to court to see my three boys, All because I left my car keys at a charity event last night and had to collect them this morning and wasn’t able to get there at 9:30
“Try and rectify the situation and make the situation work as parents but get told don’t bother and now go to court if you want to see them The disgraceful thing is I only want to see my three children and the only ones that get hurt are them, what a disgrace (sic).”

Annette Badland joins Midsomer Murders

OHMYGOSSIP — Annette Badland has joined the cast of ITV’s ‘Midsomer Murders’.
The 67-year-old actress may have just bowed out of ‘EastEnders’ as evil witch Aunt Babe but she won’t be off television screens for long as she’s been cast as pathologist Dr Fleur Perkin in the crime drama’s forthcoming 20th anniversary series.
She said in a statement: “I have always enjoyed living dangerously so arriving at ‘Midsomer…’ is thrilling. In truth I’m delighted to be involved in the 20th series of ‘Midsomer Murders’ and to work alongside and be part of this creative team.”
Dr Perkin will work closely with DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) as they attempt to solve murders at a comic book festival, a creepy circus, a sinister intellectual society and a haunted brewery.
Annette said: “I hope Fleur can assist Barnaby in maintaining his high success rate of crime detection. She is very good at her job.”
Executive producer Jonathan Fisher added: “It is a real privilege to be leading this iconic British detective series into its landmark 20th year. As part of our celebrations, we will be treating our very loyal audience with nods back to some of the most memorable moments of the show’s history.
“Meanwhile we are thrilled to welcome the wonderfully talented Annette Badland to the cast as our formidable new pathologist Fleur Perkins. We’re sure Fleur will prove to be a vibrant and much-loved ‘Midsomer…’ character.”
It’s not known how long Annette will star in the programme for but she recently admitted that she was open to making a return to ‘EastEnders’ in the near future.
She said previously: “The great thing about Babe is she’s a survivor.
“She’s wounded, but she won’t give in – and so I think with all the threats she made, Babe might be back at some point. She’s cursed the Carters, and you don’t cross Aunt Babe and get away with it.”

David Schwimmer pulls out of Top Gear

OHMYGOSSIP — David Schwimmer was being lined up for a guest appearance on ‘Top Gear’ – but has been forced to pull out at the last minute following his split from Zoe Buckman.
The former ‘Friends’ star had agreed to help out his old co-star Matt LeBlanc – who now presents the motoring show – by joining him for the final episode in the series but things were thrown up in the air when he split from the brunette beauty this month.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Matt tried to get David to come on and it was looking hopeful at one point, despite his busy schedule.
“But David has now announced he’s on a break from his wife and doesn’t think it’s right to be appearing on a British TV show.
“It’s a shame as he would have been a great guest and loads of people would have tuned in to witness the banter between him and Matt.
“The new presenters’ chemistry is improving and the videos have been great, but there hasn’t been one amazing guest compared to who the old hosts used to attract.”
As a last minute attempt to find someone to fill in for the 50-year-old actor, Matt has enlisted the help of Jay Kay and Ross Noble – who have both recorded laps on the track before – to join him for the last episode of the series.
The current series of ‘Top Gear’ has seen Matt take over the reins as the main presenter following Chris Evans’ shock departure last year over failed ratings.
And Matt’s co-host Chris Harris thinks the radio DJ – who walked away from the show just 12 months into his three-year contract – did them a favour by leaving because more people are tuning in to the show now that it’s become more about cars.
He said: “It’s a bit more car-orientated so the petrolheads are enjoying it. It’s never going to satisfy the full petrolhead audience but the car is at the centre of the show.”

John Middleton: Emmerdale crew wept filming my exit scenes

OHMYGOSSIP — Emmerdale’s crew were in floods of tears when they filmed John Middleton’s exit from the soap.
The 63-year-old actor’s character Ashley Thomas lost his battle with dementia in emotional scenes which aired earlier this week and John – who has portrayed the lovable vicar for 20 years – revealed staff on the set were distraught and even the makeup artist’s “tears were dripping” on him as he was prepped for filming.
He said: “It’s going to be a tearjerker for everyone. Tears were pouring down everybody’s faces while we were filming it. Someone was leaning over me to check costume and make-up and her tears were dripping on my cheek. Even the medical adviser was crying.”
John admitted that it will be difficult to adjust to life outside of the soap and he expects he will grieve for his character – who is married to Laurel Thomas, played by Charlotte Bellamy – over the coming months.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: “I’ve spent half of my career at ‘Emmerdale’ which is a very odd feeling. But I think I’ll only appreciate how odd later on. After two decades you get sort of institutionalized, so it will take a while to get used to it. My mother said something interesting to me a while ago. She said, ‘You’re going to experience something akin to grief.” And I think she’s right.”
And the actor has decided that he won’t tune into ‘Ememrdale’ now he’s left for good because he doesn’t believe it would be healthy to do so and he wants to make it a clean break.
Asked if he’ll still watch ‘Emmerdale’ he said: That’s a good question. Probably not. We’ve talked about it, but I want to take a complete break. I might dip in and out of it but you’ve got to take a break. I don’t believe in looking back”

Yvette Fielding is scared of Most Haunted

OHMYGOSSIP — Yvette Fielding can’t watch ‘Most Haunted’ alone.
The 48-year-old presenter may know what’s in store on the spooky series after spending weeks filming with her husband Karl Beattie and their co-host Stuart Torevell, but she still gets freaked out watching it back, and if they’ve been shooting in a particularly scary location, she finds it hard to settle back at home.
She said: “When I watch Netflix it can’t be anything scary. I couldn’t watch ‘Most Haunted’ on my own in the house – I’d have a terrible night’s sleep.
“And if I’ve come back from a particularly spooky location, I have to sleep with the lights on.”
Yvette and Karl’s daughter, Mary, 17, is keen to join the couple on their ghost-hunting adventures, but their son William, 23, isn’t so keen.
Yvette said: “My mother won’t even come to the house.
“My daughter on the other hand wants to take over from me and keeps saying, ‘When are you going to give it up?’ My son is scared to death of it!”
But one family member who has been getting involved in the show is their pet bulldog Watson.
She told Closer magazine: “He is so relaxed that he’ll go into these supposedly haunted locations, have a sniff, plonk himself down and start snoring.
“When something happens, he stands stock still, his hackles go up and he’ll stare for ages at a spot where nothing is.
“Then he’ll do a tiny little growl – that’s when I know there’s something with us.
“I’ve started going off into rooms on my own. I’ve not done that before, but when I’ve got my little mate with me I feel alright.
“We can’t take him to all the locations however, because he’s like my baby and I won’t take him anywhere in the car that’s over a two-hour journey.”

The late Patrick Swayze was 'so supportive' pf Jake Gyllenhaal

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Gyllenhaal felt the late Patrick Swayze was “so supportive” of him in ‘Donnie Darko’.
The 36-year-old actor played the titular role in the 2001 fantasy drama alongside the movie legend – who tragically died in 2009 aged 57 – and the dark-haired hunk has gushed about the ‘Dirty Dancing’ star and has praised him for encouraging him during his early acting career.
Speaking to ET Online about Swayze – who portrayed Jim Cunningham in the movie – said: “And I remember being really young and he was so supportive and kind.”
The ‘Southpaw’ hunk fondly reminisced about Swayze and likened him to a “wonderful mad man” because he would ride around the film set on an electric scooter.
Gyllenhaal said: “I remember Patrick Swayze having an electric scooter and driving back and forth and he was such a lovely man, he was just filled with so much love and kindness.
“And then I have this really crazy picture I took of him on his electric scooter, and he just looks like this wonderful mad man.”
Meanwhile, the dark-haired hunk has credited the production, which was directed by Richard Kelly, as being a “rite of passage” for him and for the viewers because of its depiction of adolescence.
He said: “That was a movie that was more about the psychological journey of adolescence and the confusion of it all.
“I’ve seen it as a rite of passage. “At a certain point in different people’s lives, [they] are like, ‘I remember watching.'”
And the 42-year-old filmmaker has described the hit film as a “slow burner” rather than a “quick flame” because he felt it needed “time to marinate” with the viewers.
He said: “This movie just needed to take its time to marinate and it needed to be discovered, I guess. That’s the path it was meant to take.
“I’ll take the slow burn over the quick flame any day.
“People can revisit it and discover new things each time they watch it.”

Reese Witherspoon's Home Again tipped for September release

OHMYGOSSIP — Reese Witherspoon’s romantic comedy ‘Home Again’ will drop in five months’ time.
The upcoming drama, which sees the 41-year-old actress portray one of the main characters alongside Michael Sheen, has finally been given the release date of September 8 by Open Road Films, according to Deadline.com
The blonde beauty plays a recently-separated mother-of-two whose new life in Los Angeles is shaken when she takes in three young guys (played by Pico Alexander, Nat Wolff, and Jon Rudnitsky) and they become part of her unconventional family.
The light-hearted flick was written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer – the daughter of Nancy Meyers – while Black Bicycle Entertainment’s Erika Olde will produce.
Rose Byrne was initially in the frame to play the female protagonist, but then Hallie, with Nancy’s help, secured Reese and announced the line up earlier this year.
Reese is busy with a number of projects both in front and behind the camera.
She recently wrapped up voicing a character for musical comedy ‘Sing’ – which came out in January – and has also been working on HBO mini-series ‘Big Little Lies’.
The Hollywood star has also been working as a producer on ‘Barbie and Ruth’ which is about the life of Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie.
Reese’s production company, Pacific Standard picked up the movie rights to Robin Gerber’s book ‘Barbie and Ruth’, which documents Handler’s rise to success with the iconic blonde doll and the movie is due out in 2018.
Ruth was inspired to create Barbie after watching her daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls as if they were adults.
She also noticed Barbara couldn’t properly dress her dolls in the clothes she had made them.
Ruth along with the help of her husband Elliot – who worked for toy manufacturers Mattel – developed and launched Barbie in 1959, and instantly had a hit on their hands which has lasted to this day.
As well as inventing Barbie, later in her life Ruth co-founded a company that manufactured an ultra-realistic replica of a women’s breast after she herself developed breast cancer.

John Simm returning to Doctor Who as The Master

OHMYGOSSIP — John Simm has announced he is returning to ‘Doctor Who’ as The Master.
The actor first portrayed the evil Time Lord in 2007 in the final three episodes of Series 3 – ‘Utopia’, ‘The Sound of Drums’ and ‘Last of the Time Lords’ – when he battled Tenth Doctor David Tennant.
Simm then returned at the end of 2009 for Tennant’s farewell story ‘The End of Time’ making his final appearance in the role on New Year’s Day in 2010 as Tennant regenerated into Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith.
Michelle Gomez then took over the famous role in Series 8 as later regeneration Missy, the first woman to portray the character, but now Simm is back to face Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi in his final series and his new companion Bill Potts, played by Pearl Mackie.
Revealing his incredible return, Simm, 46, said: “I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back! It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what The Master gets up to in the next series.”
Viewers will witness a first for the show as Simm and Gomez will appear together on screen in a multi-Master episode, something which follows the various multi-Doctor adventures where fans have seen their favourite Time Lords come together such as the 1983 feature-length episode ‘The Five Doctors’ which marked the show’s 20th anniversary with Fifth Doctor Peter Davison working with his previous incarnations.
Showrunner Steven Moffat – who was keen to keep the sensational spoiler under wraps – said: “Nothing stays secret for long on ‘Doctor Who’ but you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see exactly what The Master is up to and how he makes his return to face the Doctor. It’s been a huge pleasure to have fan favourites John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role! It’s not often you get to see a solo personality clash.”
Other classic foes confirmed to appear in Series 10 include the Daleks, the Ice Warriors and the Mondasian Cybermen – making their first appearance in the sci-fi show for over 50 years.
‘Doctor Who’ returns to BBC One on Saturday 15 April at 7:20pm with ‘The Pilot’.

Peter Capaldi will miss the smiles he gets as Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Capaldi will miss the “many more smiles” he gets for being Doctor Who when he leaves the role at the end of 2017.
The 58-year-old actor has portrayed the Time Lord in the BBC sci-fi drama for almost four years but will exit the TARDIS for the last time in the 2017 Christmas Special.
Capaldi admits he will be very “sad” to no longer play the Twelfth Doctor as one of the things he has enjoyed most about landing his dream role is that children see him as the heroic character when he’s out in public.
Speaking at a Q&A in London, he said: “I’m very sad to leave, apart from the fact it’s a wonderful job we have this fantastic team of people in Cardiff who work incredibly hard. The crew are incredibly kind, hardworking and lovely to be around so that will be sad to not work with them. It will be sad to not be Doctor Who anymore because that’s an incredible thing to wake up in the morning and say, ‘Oh I’m still Doctor Who!’ And then you go and blow up some monsters and that’s how you spend your day. Also when you walk around people don’t see people anymore, he’s not here, it’s Doctor Who they see and he gets many more smiles than I do.”
However, Capaldi, 58, was reassured by showrunner Steven Moffat – who is also departing his job on the programme this year – that he will always be the Doctor to fans.
The 55-year-old writer-and-producer said: “To be fair, you will always be Doctor Who, you will retain the title forever, ask your predecessors they all think they’re the real one. Peter Davison and David Tennant are still eyeing each other now!”
Looking to his replacement, Capaldi admitted he isn’t fussed whether the new Doctor will be a man or the first woman to portray the character they just have to be “right for the part”.
He mused: “I’m sure whoever that person is will be wonderful. Doctor Who is a wonderful part and if they haven’t already done so they’re going to make a wonderful choice by accepting it, whether that’s a man or a woman is irrespective just as long as they are right for the part, that’s the important thing.”
Before he departs Capaldi will be seen on-screen with new companion Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) and will get the chance to battle his own personal favourite classic monster – the Mondasian Cybermen.
The villains are the original version of the familiar cyborg foes, hailing from Earth’s twin planet Mondas and they have not been seen in the show for over 50 years. They first appeared in 1966 serial ‘The Tenth Planet’ in what was First Doctor William Hartnell’s final storyline before he regenerated into Second Doctor Patrick Troughton.
‘Doctor Who’ returns to BBC One on Saturday April 15 at 7.20pm with ‘The Pilot’.
