BBC Radio 2 presenter Brian Matthew dead at 88

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Sounds of the 60s’ radio presenter Brian Matthew has died.
Just days after the BBC prematurely announced his death, before retracting the statement a few hours later, the corporation has confirmed that the 88-year-old BBC Radio 2 broadcaster passed away on Saturday (08.04.17).
Tony Hall, BBC Director-General said: “Brian Matthew was an outstanding broadcaster who entertained and engaged millions over generations. He had a wonderful style of delivery and a real connection with his listeners.
“Brian was a true broadcasting great. We will all miss him and of course, that voice.”
Lewis Carnie, Head of BBC Radio 2 added: “Brian was one of this country’s most popular and best loved presenters, delighting millions of listeners with his memories and favourite tunes on ‘Sounds of the 60s’ for 27 years. On behalf of everyone at Radio 2, we send love and our best wishes to his family at this difficult time.”
And Bob Shennan, Director of BBC Radio and Music, and former BBC Radio 2 Controller said: “Brian was a radio legend. For decades, his voice was the sound of Saturday mornings, giving pleasure to listeners on ‘Sounds of the 60s’ with his wit and warmth. He will be sorely missed.”
A statement issued by the BBC earlier this week had claimed the broadcaster died on Tuesday night (04.04.17) but it was later revealed that he was alive, although he was “critically ill”.
The BBC explained the confusion in a statement, saying: “We were informed by close family and friends that Brian had passed away in the night. They have since been in contact to say that he remains critically ill. We will update with more information when we have it. Our thoughts remain with his family at this very difficult time.”

X Factor star Kieran Alleyne reveals newborn son's name

OHMYGOSSIP — 5 After Midnight’s Kieran Alleyne has named his son Jaxon Alleyne.
The former ‘X Factor’ contestant welcomed a baby boy with his former girlfriend Sophie Johnson on Friday (07.04.17) and has now posted a sweet picture of himself cradling the baby and also revealed the name.
He captioned the image: “This is so crazy” and he called the tot his “bundle of joy”.
His former ‘X Factor’ rival Matt Terry, who won the show in 2016, took to Twitter to congratulate Kieran.
He wrote: “Massive congratulations to my brother @kieranalleyne.”
Kieran – whose group made it to the show’s semi-final stage in 2016 – and Sophie, ended their 16-month relationship in March but he vowed that he would still be there for her and their baby.
He shared: “No matter what our relationship status may be, I still consider Sophie to be my best friend.
“I know she will be the most amazing mother to our son. I’m looking forward to us starting a new chapter together as great friends and committed parents to our baby boy.
“We are both incredibly excited to welcome him into the world together.”
Meanwhile, although 5 After Midnight failed to win ‘The X Factor’, the popular trio of Kieran, Nathan Lewis and Jordan Lee did enough to convince music mogul Simon Cowell that they were worthy of a record deal.
Simon reportedly feels the group could eventually become global stars, filling a void that currently exists in the market.
A source previously said: “Simon has been a big fan of 5AM throughout the series.
“Out of all the artists he thinks 5AM have the biggest gap in the market. There are very few boybands around at the moment and even fewer urban boybands who dance.”

Georgia May Foote doesn't have time for Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — Georgia May Foote is “doesn’t have time” to watch ‘Coronation Street’ anymore.
The 26-year-old actress – who portrayed Katy Armstrong in the long-running soap from 2010 until 2015 – has admitted she hasn’t been able to “catch” her breath since she competed on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ two years ago so hasn’t had the chance to sit down and tune into the show that made her famous – but hopes she will do soon.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I don’t have time to watch any soaps at the moment. Hopefully when my schedule slows down I can tune in.”
After she came second in the ballroom and latin show in 2015, Georgia bagged a role in the theatre productions of ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ and ‘The Rocky Horror Show’.
She explained: “I’m back being a working actress – auditioning and rehearsing. I know it’s annoying to say but there are lots of things in the pipeline that I can’t talk about yet! The past two years have been the busiest of my life so it’s great to be able to catch my breath.”
Although her career has rocketed since ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and the brunette beauty hasn’t had a moment to herself, she believes she owes a lot to the show.
She said: “When I’ve got more time I’d love to get back into dancing. It’s so brilliant for toning as you don’t realise you’re exercising as you dance.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience – it gave me the confidence to perform in front of a live audience week in, week out and I went straight on to do the musicals ‘Rocky Horror’ and ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’. I’d never have had the courage to sing in front of a room full of people before ‘Strictly…’ ”

Chanelle Hayes worried weight will impact her pregnancy

OHMYGOSSIP — Chanelle Hayes is reportedly worried her weight may have a negative impact on her baby.
The 29-year-old television personality – who has six-year-old son Blakely with her former partner Matthew Bates – is expecting a baby with partner Ryan Oates, but is reportedly concerned she may have gestational diabetes, a condition which could lead to complications with her unborn baby including premature labour.
A source said: “Chanelle has been undergoing tests to see if she has gestational diabetes. Her weight means she’s still classed as obese and she’s in the highest risk bracket. Chanelle’s upset and is really concerned about it. She once saw a television programme about a woman with gestational diabetes who ended up being hospitalised for three months. It’s a huge worry for her.”
And Chanelle is now doing all she can to curb her eating habits and get into shape so she can lower the risk of complications.
The insider added to The Sun Online: “Chanelle’s started taking long walks every day and has cut out saturated fats and high calorie and high sugar foods.”
Meanwhile, the reality star – who has gained 7st in two years – recently revealed she has succeeded in losing weight through her pregnancy, but admits it’s because she suffers from a form of severe morning sickness known as hyperemesis gravidarum.
She said: “I struggle to keep anything down at the moment, even water. I was saying to Ryan, ‘Yay I’ve lost weight’ while being sick at the same time.
“I lost 8lbs in one week alone.
“But joking aside, I’ve already been getting really bad anxiety about the baby not getting the right nutrients with the sickness so I’m determined to have a really healthy pregnancy once I’m feeling better.
“I’ll eat in moderation and I plan to get back to the gym as soon as I feel up to it.
“When you’re big, you’re only meant to gain between five and 20lbs during pregnancy – you’re meant to be all bump.
“My midwife told me I was a high category BMI and I shouldn’t be indulging.”

Brie Larson: Captain Marvel believes in truth

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Larson has praised Captain Marvel as a “believer in truth and justice”.
The 27-year-old actress is set to take on the role of Carol Danvers and her crime fighting alter-ego in the eponymously titled 2019 Marvel movie, and has said her character has a lot of sides to her, including a need to “make the world a better place”, and a sense of humour.
Asked during an interview with SciFiNow what her version of Captain Marvel would be like, Brie said: “She’s a believer in truth and justice and she is a bridge between two worlds, Earth and space. She’s fighting between the flaws that are within her and all this good she wants to try and spread and make the world a better place. She can also fly and shoot things out of her hands. And she’s really funny!”
The news comes after the Oscar-winning actress previously said character acts as the missing link between Earth and what’s happening in the wider Marvel Comics universe.
When asked how the superhero fits in to the stories already established by the likes of ‘Iron Man’, ‘Captain America’, and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, Brie said: “Well, quite simply, she’s kind of like the bridge between these two worlds. She’s the bridge between what’s happening up in space and what’s happening down on Earth.”
Meanwhile, Marvel studio head Kevin Feige previously admitted Brie had to overcome some tough obstacles before she was offered the role.
He said: “Listen, we set the bar very high with the first casting decision we ever made with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Since then, every single choice we’ve made, we have asked, ‘Could it meet that bar?’ Because that is what people expect of us, and that is what … it’s a very high bar.”
“Carol Danvers needs to be as rich and textured and real as the best of our characters. Maybe even more so. And we got very lucky that Brie – who has all of those attributes, and an Academy Award now – was still very interested in signing up and joining us to bring this character to life.”

Ryan Reynolds reveals his Alien ambition

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds wants to remake ‘Alien’ with himself in Sigourney Weaver’s role.
The 40-year-old actor insists his new sci-fi saga ‘Life’ isn’t very similar to Sir Ridley Scott’s famous franchise apart from the subject matter, but he could see himself portraying the actress’ iconic character Ellen Ripley.
Asked about the comparisons, he told heat magazine: “This isn’t Sigourney Weaver, ‘Get away from her you b***h’ territory. Although, my God, to have my own take on Ripley – I think I’d make a good Ripley.
“I’m tall, I could maybe work one of those mechanical crane robots if she showed me. Yeah. I could see it…
“This isn’t extra-terrestrial ravenous xenomorph boards spaceships and slaughters everyone. Which I’m all for.
“Here, this creature is trying to survive. It’s encountered the scariest alien of all – humans.
“It’s basically being abducted by aliens, us, and is reacting to that. And this guy can defend himself.”
Ryan thinks the film is “very different” for a sci-fi movie, but he embraces the “unexpected” in his movies.
He said: “It’s a very different type of movie in this type of genre and, you know, having already encountered that with ‘Deadpool’, I like the unexpected – I admire the unexpected in movies, that’s what movie creativity should be about.
“That should be the backbone – having the guts to show the audience something they won’t be expecting.
“With ‘Life’, there’s no set-out pattern, no expectation that, just because your name is over the credits, that makes you safe.
“You don’t know what, which, where is going to happen, and that’s a huge appeal for me. Not only as an actor, but an audience member too.”

Martin Kemp says EastEnders character gives him confidence

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Kemp says he still receives a confidence boost from playing Steve Owen on ‘EastEnders’ despite leaving the show 15 years ago.
The 55-year-old actor played one of Albert Square’s most memorable villains for four years from 1998 to 2002, and despite his character meeting a grizzly end 15 years ago when he was trapped in a car that exploded, he says if he ever needs a confidence boost he just thinks back to his time on the popular BBC soap.
He said: “He gave me so much confidence at the time, on that set. I think even today there’s a bit of Steve Owen I keep with me if I ever need a bit of confidence.”
And the Spandau Ballet bassist admits he would love to return to the long-running soap, but says that might not be practical given the gruesome death of his character.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “The BBC blew me up, so going back into it is something that might be quite difficult. But if you said to me, over the years, the BBC never blew you up then yes, I’d have loved to have gone back into it. It was three and a half years of probably the best fun I’ve ever had in front of the camera, and I loved the character Steve Owen.”
Meanwhile, Martin previously said he “wouldn’t say no” to returning to the soap, which saw him involved in unforgettable story lines including killing his partner Saskia Duncan and being a suspect in the shooting of Phil Mitchell.
Revealing how he could be making a sensational return to a TV show, he said: “I was just asked to be in one recently, but I can’t tell you which one!”
And when asked further which soap he would love to work on, he said: “I had a great time on ‘EastEnders’, I would never say no to anything. I would never sit here and say, ‘I would never do that.'”

Patsy Kensit to appear on Celebs Go Dating?

OHMYGOSSIP — Patsy Kensit is in talks to star in ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The 49-year-old actress is currently single after having been married four times – to Dan Donovan, Jim Kerr, Liam Gallagher, and Jeremy Healy – and bosses for the E4 celebrity dating show are reportedly keen to get her on board as they believe she’ll be a “really good laugh”.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Patsy is currently in talks to join the new season of ‘Celebs Go Dating’. Producers think she would be a great addition to the show and it obviously helps that she’s currently on the lookout for a man.
“As she proved on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ she always speaks her mind, she’s straight talking and she’s a really good laugh.
She’s had several high profile weddings and divorces and they think it would be great to get a bit of an older lady on the show too among the youngsters.
“Having dated the likes of Liam Gallagher, they’re slightly worried about finding the sort of men Patsy is interested in but they know she would be a huge hit with viewers.”
And the ‘Tina and Bobby’ actress – who has sons James, 23, with Simple Minds musician Jim Kerr, and Lennon, 17, with former Oasis rocker Liam Gallagher – recently admitted she’s a “hopeless romantic” despite not having the best luck with relationships.
She said: “I have to say at this point that I am a hopeless romantic. I truly am. I do believe in love and still believe in love and I shall continue to do so.”
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star Gemma Collins is desperate to appear on the next series of the E4 show, but bosses think it will be hard to find a match for her.
An insider explained: “Gemma is keen to go on ‘Celebs Go Dating’. She has seen lots of her friends and colleagues go on the show and thinks it will help her find a boyfriend.
“The show’s producers aren’t quite as keen. They worry that finding the sort of men Gemma is interested in would be difficult as she known for dating bad boys and criminals.
“She would obviously make great value on the show though.”

Carrie Fisher to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX?

OHMYGOSSIP — Carrie Fisher may appear in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ according to her brother Todd Fisher.
The late Hollywood icon – who passed away in December – played Princess Leia in the popular sci-fi movie franchise, and although it was previously confirmed Disney wouldn’t be using CGI to bring her back to life for the ninth instalment of the saga, her brother Todd has hinted there’s a chance the studio could reuse old footage of the actress.
He told the New York Daily News: “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t. She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue … To me, Star Wars is the holy grail of storytelling and lore and you can’t mess with it.”
The news comes after Disney and Lucasfilm ensured fans back in January that they had no plans to “digitally recreate” the character of Princess Leia for the movie.
They said in a statement: “We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
“Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honour everything she gave to Star Wars.”
Carrie and her alter-ego will still appear in the upcoming ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, because her scenes were already finished before the time of her death.

The 20-year-old model wants to follow in the footsteps of her famous family, including father Stephen Baldwin and uncle Alec Baldwin, in the future, but for now, her current career path is going well so she is focused on fashion.
Asked if she wants to act, she said: “Absolutely, when the timing is right.
“But at the moment there’s a lot of upcoming stuff and in 2017 I want my main focus to be fashion, fashion, fashion.”
And the blonde beauty has a particular passion for stage shows.
She admitted: “I’m a musical theatre geek.”
Hailey – who previously dated Justin Bieber – is an avid user of Instagram and has over nine million followers, and credits the secret to her social media popularity to simply sharing pictures of things she likes.

“I usually just Like everything – I’m an avid Liker.”
And Hailey has a few rules when it comes to taking pictures of herself to share on the site.
She said: “No selfie stick – they’re too much.
“[Would I take a no make-up selfie?] If you are comfortable with it, I say do it.”

Stephanie Waring and Michael Greco split

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Waring and Michael Greco have split up.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ beauty – who portrays Cindy Cunningham – started dating the former ‘EastEnders’ star, who played Beppe di Marco, last year but their relationship has reportedly ended because he wasn’t ready to settle down.
A source told The Sun Online: “Michael loves a night out and is a bit of a party boy, but Steph is more of a homebody.
“She was really keen for them to settle down and set up home together, but it was just too much too fast for him.
“Steph is pretty cut up about it, she really liked him and hoped that their relationship would last the distance.”
It was previously claimed that Stephanie, 39 and 46-year-old Michael had also dated briefly for a few months before splitting up and reuniting last year.
And they went public with their relationship just weeks after she revealed how hard it is being a full-time actress and a single mother to daughters Mia, 10, and Lexi, six.
She wrote alongside a photograph of her daughters: “See these two beautiful faces.. They are my girls! I have been a mother for 10 years.. Before this I had no idea what was to lie before me, the challenges I would have to face, the comprises I would have to make, to let go of my freedom of being a carefree 20 something actress that needed to be here there everywhere at the drop of a hat.. I was never a girl who cared much for responsibility so I didn’t have any.
“But then the day came when I gave birth to my first, Mia.. I was then faced with the reality that my life had changed and it wasn’t just about me anymore. Being a single mother and holding down a full time job on a soap was and still is a challenge in itself and now I don’t just have Mia I have my youngest Lexi as well. I do my best, I try my best but I’m not perfect, I feel like I get it wrong sometimes but there is no hand book, no right way of being a parent, there are no set of rules, there isn’t one way of doing it, people will tell you you’re doing it wrong that their way is best..
“No one can do it right all the time no one can have it all, if you are winning at work then you will be failing at home, if you are on top of everything at home then work isn’t getting your full attention the two go hand in hand. It’s a juggling act, a routine that sometimes doesn’t go to plan, I have no nanny, no cleaner, no partner to help, I am on my own and it’s bloody hard, working a 12hr day and getting the Hoover out is not my top priority at the end of the day but then I berate myself when I do get home from work and I have missed so much of my kids day! The amount of food I have thrown away because my girls have been close to tears and would rather starve than eat their greens then it feels like it’s down to me and I’m the one who feels like a failure.
“Any single parent who is ever made to feel like they are failing should look at their child and if they are happy and loved then you are not a failure you are doing it right, your way!
“Never feel guilty! I look at my girls they are happy and loved and that is enough for me to know that I am doing it right, my way (sic).”

Russell Tovey celebrates gay Doctor Who companion

OHMYGOSSIP — Russell Tovey says the gay companion in ‘Doctor Who’ should be “celebrated”.
Last week it was announced that Bill Potts [Pearl Mackie] will be introduced to the TARDIS in the first episode of the new series as a lesbian and he think it is a “fantastic” move from the BBC One sci-fi show’s
showrunner Steven Moffat – who will hand over to Chris Chibnall next year – and he thinks it is “time” for a female Doctor too.
He told RadioTimes.com: “I think it should be celebrated. And it should be highlighted and let people know that in mainstream TV, in ‘Doctor Who’ world, there is an openly gay woman assistant. Fantastic.
“We’ve been discussing if the Doctor’s going to be a woman. I think again, it’s time.”
Russell, who is openly gay himself, believes that a homosexual character in shows like ‘Doctor Who’ should be “highlighted”.
He said: “Maybe it shouldn’t be discussed but within ‘Doctor Who’ world it’s a new spin on something.
“We’ve had gay characters, we’ve had John Barrowman as Captain Jack and then my character Midshipman Frame is hinted as being gay.
“That makes me happy – it makes me very happy. I think it should definitely be something that is talked about and highlighted and celebrity and everyone should know about it.”
However, Moffat said he would prefer people didn’t make a big fuss about Bill’s sexuality.
He recently said: “It is important that we don’t make a big fuss about this in a children’s show, which communicates directly with children.
“We don’t want young kids, who may happen to fancy their own gender, we don’t want them to feel as if they are some kind of special case, as that’s frightening.”

Scarlett Moffatt: Television is 'difficult'

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Moffatt has learnt how “difficult” television is since being on ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’.
The 26-year-old presenter admits it was “much easier” being on ‘Gogglebox’ criticising other people on the box, but working on the ITV has made her realise how easy she had it on the Channel 4 show.
Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s (08.04.17) special episode of ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, which will be live from Disneyland World Resort in Florida with Virgin Holidays, she admitted: “Obviously it’s so much easier commenting on how other people are on TV. I’ve learnt a lot since then. It’s so weird because I watched an old ‘Gogglebox’ back the other day and it doesn’t even feel like that’s me when I watch it back. I was like ‘why are you saying that?’ because now that I’m on TV I realise just how difficult it is. When you just watch it you don’t realise all the hours and work that goes into it. Even when I watched the jungle back, I’d think ‘it can’t be that bad’ and now I’ve done it I realise how difficult it can be.”
Despite the big task of this Saturday’s show being in America, Scarlett says nothing can beat the nerves she had on her first ever episode of the entertainment programme.
Asked which she felt more pressure for, she said:
“Obviously I get a little bit nervous, because nerves show that you care. But I never feel under pressure from anybody other than myself because I want to do well and I want to do the boys proud. But the first episode was so nerve wracking because it was completely unknown to me.”
However, Ant and Dec are very supportive of the former queen of the jungle – who won 2016’s ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ – and they particularly help her when she has technical issues.
Asked to describe her relationship with the Geordie duo, she said: “I would say that we’re pals! They’re really helpful. They help me in every aspect, whether it’s just friendly banter or with work. With this they’ve help me a lot with the technical aspect. ”
Ant, 41, realises it’s a huge task and they are worried about the Californian heat as the show will be live outside, but he’s confident the team can do a great job.
He said: “It’s a huge undertaking but that’s what we aim to do with this show every year – push the boundaries of what can be done. Walt Disney World also have a fantastic team and are incredibly well equipped and experienced at putting on big shows. It’s going to be 27 degrees, humid and the whole show will be outside in the daytime, so it will certainly feel very different!
‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ comes live from Walt Disney World Resort in Florida with Virgin Holidays on Saturday 8th April at 7pm on ITV.”

John Middleton will miss working with Charlotte Bellamy

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’s John Middleton is “sad” to be leaving his on-screen wife Charlotte Bellamy as he exits the soap.
The 63-year-old actor – who has played Ashley Thomas in the long-running show since 1996 – will have his last scenes aired on Friday’s (07.04.17) episode when his dementia suffering comes to an end in an emotional farewell, but he’s adamant he and Charlotte [Laurel Potts] will stay friends as they both live in the same town and can easily grab a coffee for a catch up.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Friday (07.04.17), the pair spoke of the upcoming scenes and John’s exit.
Charlotte said: “I’m bereft!”
John added: “For me leaving the show after 20 years and this working relationship – although Charlotte and I will stay friends – we live in the same town and there’s lots of places to have coffee and we both have dogs we walk, but I really love working with Charlotte and [I’m sad] I won’t be doing that anymore.”
John doesn’t have another acting job as of yet, but is hoping to play “something evil” for his next role.
He added: “As I often say, I haven’t got plans, I’m an actor … I’ve got hopes! But if I could choose… I’d love to play something evil!”
And John added that, although he won’t be tuning in to watch his final scenes, he says they were “extraordinary” to film.
He said: “It was an extraordinary thing to film, the atmosphere on set was amazing… you could have heard a pin drop. The team really wanted to finish the story well.”
‘Emmerdale’ is on ITV this evening (07.04.17) at 7pm.
