Sheridan Smith struggling to lose weight after Moorside gain

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheridan Smith is struggling to lose weight after she “bulked up” for her lead role in ‘Moorside’.
The 35-year-old actress wanted to make her portrayal of Karen Matthews’ best friend Julie in the BBC drama, which is based on the shocking disappearance of Shannon Matthews in 2008, as real as possible so agreed to pile on the pounds in time for filming last year, but has admitted she’s finding it really tough to beat the bulge and she still has “a load” to lose.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper at the Olivier Awards in London on Sunday (09.04.17) night, in which she wore a floor-length black gown, she said: “I put on some weight for ‘The Moorside’ and I’ve still got a load, but I’m trying to lose it. I wanted to get into the character and became very good friends with Julie. Julie is a lot taller than me so it was about bulking up.”
The blonde beauty has played numerous roles throughout the course of her career – including on television and on stage – but she prefers to take on “real life characters”.
She explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I really do like real life characters and I keep doing it. Everytime I get a script and it’s not a real life person I’m like ‘hmmm’.
“I mean, I’ll still do those roles that are fictional but there’s something about getting under the skin and doing a role and getting to know them that I love. I know that sounds really weird and actory. I usually get a bit obsessed by the real person. I think maybe I just enjoy losing myself in other people rather than just being me. But that’s something that I love and I’m just so honoured that they would let me get to know them and play them. It’s a massive trust thing for them.”

Katie Price wants own sexy panel show

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price wants to host her own raunchy late-night panel show.
The 38-year-old former glamour model has begged bosses to give her a slot on the broadcasting schedule after the 9pm watershed so that she can showcase the “filthy humour” that she’s now allowed to flaunt when she’s a panellist on ‘Loose Women’.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she said: “I really wish the show could be on in the evening. I have to keep it clean for daytime viewers. I have told bosses that I could showcase my filthy humour. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Although bosses are yet to agree to the idea, the blonde beauty is convinced it will be a huge success because it will allow viewers to get an insight into her saucy side.
However, Katie is no stranger to fronting her own programme as last year she raked in fans with her equestrian show ‘Pony Club’ and she’s now hoping to achieve the same success with her new forthcoming 12-part fly-on-the-wall series ‘My Crazy Life’.
She said: “I’m so excited to be the first commissioned show on Quest Red. Putting my pony club together last year was such a fun return to reality TV – I loved it. Now I can’t wait to show everyone what goes on in the Pricey household. We’ve got over 100 animals and five children so expect lots of noise, mayhem and plenty of drama!”
The show will capture Katie as she cares for her huge collection of animals, renovates her home and juggles being a mother to her five children; Harvey, 14, Junior, 11, Princess, nine, Jett, three, Bunny, two.
Clare Laycock, VP, Head of Quest Red, TLC & Investigation Discovery said: “This series takes us into the heart of the crazy, action-packed life of one of the UK’s most outspoken, entertaining and best-loved working mums.
“I’m delighted to welcome Katie onto Quest Red and look forward to joining her and her family and friends for more fun-filled antics this summer.”

Doctor Who's first gay companion 'has been too long coming'

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Steven Moffat thinks the Time Lord’s first openly gay companion has been “too long coming”.
Pearl Mackie plays the landmark role in the new series of the sci-fi programme and Steven has insisted he doesn’t want any thanks for the decision to make her character, Bill Potts, gay.
He explained: “I think people would say, ‘Why the hell did you not get around to it earlier?’ – and I would absolutely agree with them.”
In fact, Steven revealed Bill’s sexuality is “not a major plot strand” in the show and admitted he was surprised by the amount of attention it had attracted.
He said, according to Digital Spy: “This wasn’t, as some people thought, some kind of press release we made – it was just mentioned by Pearl in an interview. I didn’t even know it was happening. I saw it on the internet!
“It’s not a major plot strand. It’s not even a minor plot strand. It’s just there. She’s not ‘the gay companion’ – she’s Bill Potts. She barely bothers to mention the fact. It only comes up when it’s relevant.”
This comes shortly after Steven, 55, said it’s important to not make such a big deal out of Bill being gay, because young people uncertain of their sexuality should feel reassured by programmes like ‘Doctor Who’.
He reflected: “It’s important that we don’t make a fuss about this in a children’s show which talks directly to them.
“We don’t young children who are boring and normal and happen to fancy their own gender, we don’t want to make them feel as though they’re some kind of special case because that’s frightening.”

Priyanka Chopra: I've sacrificied my life for my career

OHMYGOSSIP — Priyanka Chopra has “given up” her life to be an actress.
The 34-year-old star balances her work in Hollywood with making movies back home in India, and Priyanka has made numerous sacrifices to have a successful career.
The actress shared: “I work very hard to do everything I’m doing. My life is split between two continents. So, I am working in the US, and I’m also producing six films in India this year.
“I am trying to balance my time between both countries, and I don’t want to settle on one in particular. For me, either isn’t more important than the other. Both are facets of my journey as an actor, and, more than anything, as an entertainer.
“So, I am a very proud person. Honestly, I have given up my life for my work.”
Despite this, the ‘Baywatch’ star doesn’t harbour any regrets about the sacrifices she’s made, and revealed her ambition is to make even “bigger and better” movies in the coming years.
She told the Hindustan Times newspaper: “It gives me immense joy to have the achievements that I’ve earned. This is also a great validation for me. I hope I make bigger and better films.”
Last month, meanwhile, Priyanka said she feels “very secure” in her career.
The Indian star revealed that her career achievements mean she no longer feels insecure about the success of other actresses.
She shared: “I’m very secure in who I am and the work I do. These are my friends and colleagues, and I like to share in their achievements and happiness.
“Good work should be applauded. I believe that there is enough work out there for everyone. We don’t live in the dark ages any more.”

Vin Diesel: Voicing Groot is 'very challenging'

OHMYGOSSIP — Vin Diesel finds voicing Groot in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ “very challenging”.
The 49-year-old actor’s character in the Marvel Comics movie franchise is a tree-like humanoid named Groot who can only say “I am Groot”, but the star still struggles with the voice acting for the role as the limited vocabulary makes it harder to properly convey emotion.
He said: “It’s very, very challenging because you’re limited to three words. There’s a secret script that I get where it has all of Groot’s lines, but the catch of it all is the only was I can say it is: ‘I am Groot.'”
And the star is set for an even bigger challenge in the upcoming second instalment of the franchise, as Groot – who was seen sacrificing himself at the end of the 2014 movie and re-growing into a miniature version of himself known as Baby Groot – will need a much higher voice to encapsulate his small size.
Vin told Total Film magazine: “I have a feeling they’ll do a combination of things [to alter the sound electronically]. I mean, I do it super high-pitched.”
Meanwhile, the movie’s director James Gunn previously revealed he has “a lot more freedom” to develop the characters in the sequel.
He said: “On the second movie, I had a lot more freedom.
“Because the first movie did well and it was great not having to explain the five major characters to the audience in the first half hour, we just go straight into the story … This [the sequel] has to be its own thing and you can’t start making this a s****y Xerox of the first one.”
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ – which is due to hit screens on April 28 in the UK and on May 5 in North America – also stars Chris Pratt as Star Lord Peter Quill, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and Karen Gillan as Nebula, whilst newcomers Kurt Russell – who plays Quill’s father Ego – and Sylvester Stallone also join the cast.

Jason Manford excited for The Nightly Show

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Manford is “really looking forward” to hosting ‘The Nightly Show’.
The 35-year-old comedian is set to take the reigns on the ITV late night chat show – which is hosted by a different presenter each week – on Monday (10.04.17) and believes he’ll “be all right” when he comes to host the show because he says it’s easier for comics as they can make jokes up on the spot.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it, to be honest. As a comic, you always think, ‘Well it’ll be all right when I do it’.
“I think it’s harder for non-comics, because you’ve got to just take the writers’ jokes. But I’ve been watching every minute of it – literally taking notes.
“And what I’ve noticed so far is that when John Bishop was doing the monologue, his was the strongest, and that’s because he’s a comic and it’s his thing.
“But when Dermot O’Leary was doing the interviews, I think his were the strongest of them, because he knows that world. A lot of it has been very good.”
The show has had its ups and downs in the past seven weeks since it started airing with viewing figures sometimes dipping below one million, but Jason has praised the programme for daring to be different.
He told The Sun newspaper: “You’ve got to work out what works and doesn’t work — but unfortunately in the case of The Nightly Show the only way to do that is live on television.
“But hopefully, by week seven we should have nailed it.
“It’s nice to be asked to do something like this because it’s a big deal for ITV and they’ve really invested in it.
“Having one person with one vision driving a show, right or wrong, is very refreshing and I think that’s the way TV should be done.”
‘The Nightly Show’ airs weekdays on ITV at 10pm.

Lauren Goodger celebrates first anniversary with jailbird boyfriend

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Goodger celebrated her first anniversary with her jailbird boyfriend with a gushing Instagram post.
The former ‘TOWIE’ star can’t celebrate the special day with her beau Joey Morrison – who is currently serving an 18-year sentence for offences including kidnap, blackmail and burglary – but took to Instagram to post a picture of them kissing.
She captioned it: “Happy first year anniversary to us #love #oneyear #strong #sunday #hisandher #summer2017 (sic).”
Lauren also posted a meme celebrating couples who “make it through an incarceration”.
The post read: “Couples that make it through an incarceration are not your average couple.
“Only those with the strongest love, commitment, and loyalty make it to that homecoming.
“This is not an ordinary love. It’s exceptional (sic).”
However, Lauren, 30, soon removed both posts without an explanation.
Meanwhile, it was previously reported Lauren is “really in love” with Joey, also 30, and is thankful his stint behind bars means they are having to take their relationship “slowly and soberly”.
A source said: “Lauren is really in love and her life is completely centred around Joey. She says she’s never been in a relationship like this before and she loves getting to know Joey the old-fashioned way – slowly and soberly… They speak all the time and she writes love letters to him twice a week. Lauren loves writing letters – she thinks it’s sweet and old-fashioned and isn’t something she would usually do. Joey sends her flowers, too, which he asks his dad to organise on his behalf.”
And the star recently revealed she’s about a new reality TV show, which Joey will be part of, despite saying he “doesn’t want to be in the public eye”.
Lauren said: “Definitely [we will go in to business together] a bit further down the line. We always speak about it, although he doesn’t want to be in the public eye. But I’m in talks to do a TV show, and he’ll have to be a part of that. He ain’t got a choice!”

Aidan Turner broke hand

OHMYGOSSIP — Aidan Turner broke his hand filming ‘Poldark’.
The 33-year-old actor likes to do his own stunts when shooting his role as Ross Poldark in the hit BBC1 drama series but came a cropper while tackling a daring fear for the upcoming third season.
He said: “I think I do all of it; I broke my hand!”
Aidan particularly enjoyed an upcoming storyline when Ross sets out to rescue his captured friend Dwight Enys (Luke Norris) because he likes getting out of the studio.
Speaking at the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival, he said: “Dwight’s ship goes missing off the coast of France, so Ross rallies the troops together to try to find out where he is and it turns out he’s in prison. So he has to go and bust him out: it’s the boys with the guns, it’s very exciting. There’s a little war movie in the middle of it.
“It was a lot of fun running around in the woods with guns. It’s fun to break from the studio stuff. That’s why I do it.”
One of the only things Aidan doesn’t like about working on the show is the fact he doesn’t have as close a bond with Garrick, Delemza (Eleanor Tomlinson)’s dog, who lives with her and Ross, as he would like.
He said: “I love dogs, I’m a dog person. He’s a working dog and when he’s on set he’s working but he’s not terribly affectionate and it kind of annoys me that he’s not.
“He doesn’t want to know you unless you have a treat in your hand and I have no time for that!”

Dogs delight at Britain's Got Talent auditions

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judges have been blown away by a number of dog acts in this year’s auditions.
Following the success of Ashley and Pudsey, and Jules and Matisse in 2012 and 2015 respectively, clever canines have been taking to the stage with a variety of weird and wonderful skills, much to the delight of Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
When the show returns to TV, fans will be treated to the sight of a poker-playing Jack Russell, two singing Great Danes, a pair of poodles driving a pink Cadillac and even a dog that does yoga.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “Talented dogs have always been part of Britain’s Got Talent but this year there are more good ones than ever.
“It really is the year of the dog and the judges couldn’t get enough of them. The poodles were so fantastic they got a standing ovation.”
And the talented dogs were in good company, as at one of the London auditions, Simon brought his Yorkshire terriers Squiddly and Diddly, David had his beloved pooch Bert, and Amanda had her puppy, while hosts Ant and Dec also had their devoted hounds with them.
And the famous canines even got involved with the auditions as doggy yoga instructor Mahny persuaded the stars to bring their pets on stage to try out some poses.
The source said: “The audience loved seeing the judges and their dogs getting involved. It will be a fantastic TV moment.”
But dogs aren’t the only acts to turn heads at this year’s auditions, as viewers can also look forward to an Italian man who dresses up as a pair of fake boobs, three builders dressed as the Spice Girls, a heavy metal singer and a raunchy trapeze artist.

Alesha Dixon to launch film career

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon is taking acting lessons in a bid to land a Hollywood movie role.
The 38-year-old singer – who has three-year-old daughter Azura with partner Azuka Ononye – is said to be focused on “making a big splash” in Los Angeles and has already had some “encouraging meetings” with film executives.
However, if she does get her break on the big screen, Alesha could have to give up her beloved judging role on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Alesha’s been taking acting lessons and is focused on making a big splash in LA.
“She’s had some really encouraging meetings and could be on the brink of a big role that could really establish her in America.
“If it did, it could be the end of her time on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, which would be the only bad thing about an opportunity as she really loves that job.”
A movie career isn’t the only new work path Alesha is gearing up for in the coming months, as she recently revealed she has signed a deal with Scholastic to write two children’s books that centre on Aurora Beam, a young female superhero, and although she is only in the middle of working on her first story she has big plans for her heroine.
The former Mis-Teeq singer wants kids to connect with Aurora in the same way they did with Rowling’s boy wizard when Rowling’s first tome ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ was published back in 1997.
She said: “I came up with this character called Aurora Beam. I wanted to create a young, female superhero. I wish I could be the next J.K. Rowling.”

Jessica Chastain loves working with animals

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Chastain only wants to make animal movies from now on.
The 40-year-old actress had such a great time working with elephants, tigers, monkeys and lion cubs on ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ – which is based on the true story of Jan Zabinski, the director of Warsaw Zoo, and his wife Antonina, who helped save the lives of hundreds of Jews during World War II – that she doesn’t understand why people are warned about filming with kids and creatures.
She said: “They say never work with children or animals but after this that’s all I want to work with.
“The great thing about working with animals is that they force you to show up without expectation. You have to show up, see what’s going on and go with it.”
Jessica recently made a trip to Warsaw Zoo, where she was “honored” to meet with Jan and Antonina’s daughter Teresa, though she did find the experience a little “weird”.
She told HELLO! magazine: “Having her there made me nervous because you always want to be respectful and do the person justice when you are playing a real-life character.
“It was also kind of weird standing there dressed as her mother – I was always thinking how she was feeling.
“We cried a lot together remembering Antonina, but Teresa assured me she was happy and I was so honoured to share this experience with her.”
The ‘Tree of Life’ actress feels very “lucky” because she has been far more successful in her career than she ever dreamed of.
She said: “My career is better than I could ever have imagined.
“When I was in high school, my dream was to work at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and be in the company.
“I still have a keychain my boyfriend bought me back then which says, ‘Looking forward to working with you here.
“So to look at my life and career now is wonderful and so much bigger than what my dreams were.
“I never expected any of this so I truly appreciate it. I feel very lucky.”

June Brown's sight saved

OHMYGOSSIP — June Brown has had her eyesight “saved” following a 60-second operation.
The 90-year-old actress – who is best known for playing Dot Branning on ‘EastEnders’ – was one of the first people to undergo the Eyemax Mono technique to treat macular degeneration, an age-related condition which means damage to the retina stops a person seeing fine details.
She told the Sunday Express newspaper: “I can see people’s faces and recognise my children again. I can now distinguish colours and the pattern on a rug that I couldn’t see before.
“I can read again and I don’t think I would be able to see at all if I hadn’t had the operation.”
The soap stalwart had been diagnosed with the condition over 10 years ago and it was even written into her storylines last year after developing an advanced stage of the disease.
But now, June is overjoyed that her vision is “slowly improving” after the pioneering lens surgery helped readjust nerve signals in the brain to access healthy parts of the retina.
She added: “[My eyesight] is slowly improving all the time. I think my brain is teaching my peripheral vision to come into operation.”
June recently admitted she can’t afford to quit ‘EastEnders’.
She said: “I can’t afford to retire. I never had the money to start a pension – I didn’t start to make any real money until I was 58 – and now it’s not worth much.
“I’ve always been afraid of being poor when I’m old. It’s a dreadful thing to be strapped for cash when you are elderly. It’s awful when you’re young, too, but you always have hope.”
However, she has another reason for remaining in the show, as June admitted she would be bored if she quit working.
She said: “As long as I am capable of working, and can learn lines and move around, I will carry on. I’d be utterly bored if I stopped.
“I don’t think I look nearly 90 but because I can’t see these days I don’t know.
“You don’t think about your age – you just knock it down.”

Graham Norton's ex-lover fears he has sacrificed love for success

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton’s former partner worries the star has sacrificed success for love.
The 54-year-old talk show host was in a “serious” relationship with American Scott Michaels for five years from 1996 and his former partner fears his decision to always put work first will make it hard for him to settle down eventually.
Scott said: “Graham and I were the loves of each other’s lives. I was very serious about him and I know he felt the same way.
“I am happy that Graham has the success he wanted but I do feel sad he hasn’t found love.
“He might find someone he likes but the difficult part is finding someone who will fit into his lifestyle.
“I don’t miss being in Graham’s world but I have no doubt his determination to be famous ended our relationship.”
Scott moved to the UK to be with Graham after months of a long-distance relationship, and was proud to be a part of the Eurovision host’s early quest for fame by driving him to gigs.
He told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “It felt like I was contributing to his dream and our life together. I always thought he would make it. He was hard-working and very confident.
“He would restrict himself to one glass of wine before a show, then afterwards it was no holds barred. One time we were out with Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys and Graham fell asleep standing up. That was one of his things.”
But as Graham’s career took off, Scott found it hard to be a part of his “ordinary” world.
He said: “I got upset that he was the one being loved by everyone and getting invited to exciting things. There were long days and nights when he just wasn’t around.
“There were more and more people taking up his time – business people, managers, friends, fake friends. I was surplus to requirements.
“There were two different worlds, ordinary and famous, and I was in the ordinary world.”
Scott persuaded Graham to go for couple’s counselling in a “desperate” bid to save their relationship.
He said: “I was desperate. I’d moved to another country for this guy after all. It was like he never wanted to be the bad guy and tell me to get lost.
He had to push me enough for me to say, ‘F**k this, I am done’. And at that stage, I was done.”
But Scott has no hard feelings towards his former partner.
She said: “I just hope he is happy.”

Georgia May Foote is 'done' with reality TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Georgia May Foote is “done” with reality TV for “a while.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star may have came second when she took part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ two years ago but she has admitted she doesn’t think she’ll sign up to another series in the near future because she wants to focus on acting.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I always say never say never but I don’t think so. ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ was the one I wanted to do because it meant learning a new skill. I think I’m done with reality TV for a while.”
And, although bosses are currently on the hunt for a new head judge following legend Len Goodman’s decision to leave last year, the 26-year-old actress is adamant she’ll never claim a position on the panel – like Alesha Dixon did when she won the show.
She said: “I know Alesha Dixon became a judge after being on the show but acting is my priority at the moment. It’s so sad he’s leaving.
“His replacement needs to be somebody with an old head on their shoulders and plenty of experience. Karen Hardy would be great, she knows competition dancing. Somebody to rein Bruno Tonioli in.”
Georgia found love with professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice when she was on the programme but they split up just eight months later and now the Bury-born actress is loved up with male model George Alsford.
Although their relationship is going from strength-to-strength, Georgia has no intention of settling down any time soon as she wants to focus on herself for now.
She explained: “I’m concentrating on myself while I’m still young. I was so upset when I turned 26. I was like oh my gosh, I’m actually on my way to 30. My sister Katie turns 30 this year which is scary as I always feel that I’m not too far behind her – 30 feels like the age when I should be being sensible and getting married.”

Cynthia Nixon's perfect lead role

OHMYGOSSIP — Cynthia Nixon insists it makes “perfect sense” for her to play Emily Dickinson in ‘A Quiet Passion’.
The 50-year-old actress admits she was surprised director Terence Davies – who previously declared himself “appalled” by ‘Sex and the City’ – wanted her to portray the reclusive American poet in his biopic because she had previously had a terrible audition for him.
She recalled: “I’d auditioned for him back in 2007 and I could barely get a line out without him correcting me, so I couldn’t believe it when he sent me the script. Then again, if someone was going to write a lead for me, this one made perfect sense.”
Cynthia is unsure if she has much in common with the 19th century poet, though she thinks Emily was a feminist in her own way.
She told Stella magazine: “She was also a feminist, I guess. Although I don’t think Emily would have thought of herself that way. She was such an individualist, so she wouldn’t have wanted to align herself with any political movement. And you couldn’t be a feminist at that time without thinking it was important to be given the right to vote. I assume she would have been in favour of that, but she wasn’t a political person.”
But the actress was fascinated by the poet’s introspective nature.
She said: “[She was] more interested in the flowering of her own mind and soul as opposed to any marker that society would have in terms of her success or popularity.”
Meanwhile, Cynthia admitted it was hard to “move on” from her most famous role, as ‘Sex and the City’s Miranda Hobbes.
She said: “It was [hard to move on]. And we’ve moved on a bunch of times. We moved on after the series, then after the first movie and the second, and now I feel like I’ve gone so far that there’s…[no going back].”

Scarlett Johansson: Motherhood hasn't changed my working life

OHMYGOSSIP — Scarlett Johansson insists motherhood hasn’t changed her working life.
The ‘Ghost in the Shell’ actress – who has two-year-old daughter Rose with estranged husband Romain Dauriac – is thankful her little girl is still young enough to adapt to her movie career, but knows it might not always be so easy.
She said: “I have a job that’s very advantageous in that way. I can parent and then go do the scene and go back and parent.
“There’s a bit of back and forth, but it works.
“[Has it changed what work I do?] It hasn’t but it might in a few years. Again, it’s a job that works with you.
“I have a freedom that others don’t, so I’m grateful.”
And though the 32-year-old actress’ daughter is too young to watch any of her movies just yet, Scarlett is mindful of the fact she will want to see them one day so wants to set a good example as a working mother.
She told OK! magazine: “She won’t be seeing this for a long, long time. I’m not sure how much of an impact it’s making right now, but absolutely, in the future, I want her to know and absorb the lesson of working hard, going for your dreams and making it happen.”
Meanwhile, although the ‘Lucy’ actress is proud of her action roles on screen and likes to think of herself as a “badass”, Scarlett is unsure of how well she’d handle herself in real life.
She said: “In my mind, I could take on anyone. On set, I think I’m the biggest badass ever.
“But if someone catches me off guard and tries to mug me, I’ll probably forget everything I’ve learned and just run.”
