Holly Willoughby’s husband Dan Baldwin has ‘major plans to dominate TV’

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby’s husband Dan Baldwin reportedly has “major plans to dominate TV”.
The 48-year-old producer has worked on a number of programmes such as ‘Michael McIntyre’s Big Show’ and ‘Celebrity Juice’ and now an insider has claimed that he looking to follow in the footsteps of music mogul Simon Cowell, who achieved TV success with formats like ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Dan has major plans to dominate TV. He’s seen how Simon has created a dynasty and wants to follow suit.
“There’s a clear goal not just to match what Simon has achieved but also bring TV into a new era by creating a fresh batch of blockbuster shows and huge stars on multiple lucrative platforms.
“He’s always been ambitious but he’s really ramped up his empire-building now.”
The insider claimed that Dan – who tied the knot with former ‘This Morning’ star Holly in 2007 – and his wife have “profited” from each other’s talents and claimed that a number of potential joint projects will serve them well for “many years” to come should they manage to get them off the ground.
The source said: “Dan and Holly have profited from each other’s talents, there’s no doubt about that.
“He makes the shows, she presents them and they know exactly how their joint projects should come off.
“It’s a perfect scenario and one they’ll continue to thrive off for many years.”
The claims of Dan’s TV plans come after his agency Hungry Bear Talent – which he founded in 2014 – signed 12 of the 16 athletes for ‘Gladiators’, earning him a big payout in the process.
An insider told The Mail on Sunday: “Dan made the reboot with his company, sold it to the BBC for a lot of money and now he has shrewdly signed up some of its most popular young stars … Whatever they make now, he will get extra money via the management company.”

Graham Norton fears he is ‘overexposed’ on TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Graham Norton is worried he is “overexposed” on TV.
The 60-year-old TV star, who hosts his own chat programme ‘The Graham Norton Show’, has been a staple on screen for years, appearing in the likes of ‘Eurovision’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ but worries the public will get fed up of seeing him as frequently as they currently do.
In an interview with Attitude magazine, he said: “I feel overexposed in that suddenly all these things are happening at once. It’s like, ‘Will [he] ever get off my TV?’
Graham also appears in ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ as a judge alongside Olympic diver Tom Dailey, ‘Saltburn’ actor Richard E. Grant, comedian Katherine Ryan, singer Kim Petras and fashion model Adwoa Aboah, and has insisted he is keen to stay on the programme for as long as possible.
When asked how long he wanted to be a judge on the show, he said: “‘Indefinitely’ makes it sound like me and Ru will be skeletons behind the desk! I’m still enjoying it, and they’re still asking me to do it.”
The presenter then revealed he preferred the UK version to that of the American counterpart, and argued that the original series across the pond has been influenced by its British spinoff show.
He said: You know, it was interesting when the show started here. I adored the American version, and you didn’t know what it was going to be like here. Can UK queens really come up with all those looks?! But I’ve been so impressed with them.
“In lots of ways, I prefer the UK version. I think it has informed the sorts of queens they’re casting in America. This new series, I think the casting has been influenced by the UK.”
Despite loving his TV career, Graham admitted he was “always nervous” to agree to new programmes.
He explained: “I’m always nervous saying yes to new jobs. No matter how strong the format, you just don’t know what the experience will be like, if you enjoy working with new people, the contestants. There are a lot of unknowns.”

Corrie’s Matt Milburn reveals his mum helps him learn lines for steamy scenes with Tracy Barlow

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Milburn learns lines for his steamy ‘Coronation Street’ scenes with his mum.
The actor plays former footballer Tommy Orpington in the ITV1 soap opera and his character is currently having an affair with infamous Street villain Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) – who is married to taxi driver Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) – but stays with his mum when he is filming because of logistics and she ends up stepping into the shoes of his on-screen lover so he can prepare for being on set.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he said: “Poor old Steve! He’s gonna be mortified at the fact that it’s Tommy, rather than just finding out that his Mrs is having an affair.
“[My mum] becomes Tracy – within reason!
“I’m based down south, obviously ‘Corrie’ is filmed up north. So when I’m filming, I stay with my mum and, yeah, she learns all the lines with me. She’s been Tracy Barlow for the last four months doing an amazing job.
“She loves it, it’s great for me and we spend a lot of time together. She loves the show, she’s a big fan.”
Matt is the younger brother of ‘Brassic’ star Greg Wood and admitted that his big brother is the “whole reason” he is in the industry to start with and ended up getting his breakthrough role in ‘Hollyoaks’ after stepping in for him in a play.
He said: “My big brother is the whole reason I’m here. I used to watch him when he was in plays in his earlier years and seeing the buzz he got and the excitement, it made me think that I had to try it. I got a role that he couldn’t do because he got some telly work.
“Then ‘Hollyoaks’ was the first audition after that. I’ve been lucky, very lucky. Really lucky. But I am starting to believe in myself a little bit more now.”

Olly previously confessed he was “shocked” to find out he was being let go, despite mentoring singers to victory on the show.
He told The Sun last September: “I still have a great relationship with ITV and I don’t actually think it was their decision as such – it was probably more (the production company) Talpa.
“They told my team they’re looking at new people. I don’t know if anyone knows yet, but I will really miss Tom, especially as I got very close to him.
“I’m going to miss drinking champagne after the show with him and chatting life stories but hopefully if he reads this, he might get in touch.”

Fellow ‘Strictly’ judge Craig Revel Horwood insisted Robin was “one of the kindest, gentle, honest, funny and caring people” he has ever met.
He posted: “I have just heard the tragic news my dear friend ’Bobby’ Robin Windsor has passed. He was one of the kindest, gentle, honest, funny and caring people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with. He will be forever missed. My heart goes out to all his family and friends. RIP darling man, you were truly loved x (sic)”
‘Strictly’ pros Amy Dowden and Karen Hauer also posted tributes to Robin on social media.
Amy admitted she was “in shock” to hear of the “kind, talented soul’s” death, while Karen described him as a “beautiful human being”.
Robin was a ‘Strictly’ pro from 2010 to 2013, partnering the likes of Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley and Deborah Meaden.
Lisa wrote on Instagram: “My Bestie, My Robin, My Angel….now our forever Angel, who is loved, will always be loved, forever in my heart……my very broken heart, I love you, shine your beautiful, electric energy from heaven. [broken heart emojis] SHINE IN PEACE [broken heart emojis] (sic)”

‘There are no words to express the pain’ Kristina Rihanoff ‘devastated’ by Robin Windsor’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Kristina Rihanoff has been left “devastated” following the death of her dance partner Robin Windsor, and has told how the pair shared everything together from career highlights to “hitting rock bottom”.
The 46-year-old pro dancer has recalled being “blown away” by Robin’s “kindness, light-hearted personality and amazing loyalty” when she was first partnered with her fellow former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer, who has passed away aged 44, and praised him for always finding a way to raise her spirits.
In a cryptic post, she wrote on Instagram: “There is no words to express the pain and devastation
“Robin wasn’t just my dance partner, he was a friend and together we shared endless experiences from our careers highlights to hitting Rockbottom of rejection.
“When I got partnered with him on Strictly I was blown away by his kindness, lighthearted personality and amazing loyalty. He had stood by me through many rough times during Strictly for which I am deeply grateful for as there was no one else to lean on. He always found the way to bring my spirit up. However his own spirit was absolutely destroyed when he was dropped from Strictly and that’s where I started to see changes in his personality, depression and broken self worth.
“While we went on to do many shows tours gigs and appearances together he was struggling more and more with instability of work and excruciating back pain because of the injury he had suffered during Strictly.
“Sadly, us dancers, always neglect our health because we always after the next gig, the next job and he just couldn’t look after his injury properly until there was nothing left to do but have an operation which also put him out of work for quite some time. Unfortunately “stage live” of a dancer is short and nobody really cares because there is always the next person who can take your place and that’s the ugly truth. He often would say that he doesn’t know where he’s going and what’s will be next. (sic)”
Kristina also admitted she rejected several invitations to appear on TV shows to pay tribute to Robin on Tuesday (20.02.24).
She added: “Many of you, who went to see his farewell tour, know perfectly well that he spoke very openly about his mental health struggles and thoughts of a suicide. I’m sure it was devastating for anyone who love Robin to hear something like that, but those thoughts were in his head for quite many years and it’s so deeply sad that he felt that he is better to another place rather than stay here. Too much pain too much disappointment, too much Neglect
“I was asked today to appear on every news outlet, every TV show to pay tribute him to which I said no. Not today, not over zoom saying a couple of words what a great guy he was – the truth is he was an incredible person and it’s absolute tragedy that he felt there was no way out
“Thank you for everything Robin, rest in peace (sic)”
‘Strictly’ have also paid tribute to Robin, describing him as a “caring, considerate and kind person both on and off the dancefloor”.
The show said in a statement: “The whole ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ family are deeply saddened to hear the news about our dear friend Robin Windsor.
“He was not only an exceptionally talented dancer and choreographer but also a caring, considerate and kind person both on and off the dancefloor.
“Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this extremely difficult time.”

‘A pretty rotten week’ Greg James pulls out of radio show after family bereavement

OHMYGOSSIP — Greg James pulled out of his BBC Radio 1 show after his grandmother passed away.
The 38-year-old broadcaster wasn’t on his radio show on Monday morning (19.02.24), but he later revealed on social media he was absent due to the passing of his nan.
On Instagram, he wrote: “A pretty rotten week. Got rid of Covid and then yesterday my lovely 100 year old Nan died so have spent a nice quiet day today with the family.
“Excited to be back on the radio tomorrow and very much in need of some fun. With you at 7am. (sic)”
Attempting to lighten the mood, Greg joked he had been dealing with his grief by “thirsting” over Andrew Scott.
In a separate picture of him posing with the ‘All of Us Strangers’ star at the BAFTAs, Greg captioned the post: “Grief takes many forms. Mine appears to be thirsting after Andrew Scott.”
Later, the radio host updated his fans on the platform, and admitted he was struggling to cope with responding to the many messages of condolence he had received, as well as maintaining his family’s privacy.
He wrote: “Thank you very much for your nice messages. You’re very very kind. I sort of wanted to say something because I’ve been out of the loop the last couple of days and haven’t really got back to anyone or said anything and my job requires me to be honest and open and I love that about it.
“However, the new influx of messages means the problem is now exacerbated and I have even more people to reply to.
“I should have done that thing where families say please respect our privacy which essentially just means [go away] doesn’t it.
“I don’t want you to [go away] I’m just trying to be funny. I’M GRIEVING LEAVE ME ALONE. Don’t leave me alone. I’m off to look at more photos of Andrew Scott bye xx (sic)”

Thursday Murder Club writer Richard Osman confirms new book series

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Osman is to release the first of a new book series on September 12th.
The former ‘Pointless’ co-host – who is best known in the literary world for his hugely popular ‘Thursday Murder Club’ book series – is “proud” to confirm his new tome is called ‘We Solve Murders’, but the 53-year-old star is “nervous” about what readers might think of his new project.
In a newsletter to fans, he wrote: “I am proud, excited, delighted and, if I’m being entirely truthful, nervous, to announce that my new book We Solve Murders will be released on September 12th.
“Not only a new book but a brand new series, with brand new characters and, fear not, brand new murders.”
Richard’s new book will tell the story of Amy Wheeler, a close protection officer for billionaires, and her father-in-law, Steve Wheeler, who has a small investigative agency but is generally quite content with his quiet life in the New Forest.
But things change for Amy when she takes on a new client, the world’s bestselling crime novelist, Rosie D’Antonio, and a dead body emerges, and she enlists Steve’s help.
Richard added: “The book was enormous fun to write. I have fallen in love with these characters, and I hope you will too.
“They’re very different to each other. Amy likes jumping out of airplanes and kickboxing bad guys, while Steve likes staying at home with his cat Trouble and doing the pub quiz every Tuesday.
“The two of them have made me laugh and they’ve made me cry.
“I think you will also enjoy the third wheel in their relationship: the client that Amy is protecting, the world’s bestselling crime novelist, Rosie D’Antonio.
“She’s like Jackie Collins meets Lee Child, and makes me laugh on every page.”
Richard felt like he was “cheating” on his four main ‘Thursday Murder Club’ characters by writing a new book series.
But he confirmed there will be a new ‘Thursday Murder Club’ novel out next year.
He said: “I know it is difficult for us all to cheat on Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim, but we must remember that they will be back next year, after a lovely rest.”
‘We Solve Murders’ can be pre-ordered from Penguin.

Alan Ritchson is determined to play a ‘historical figure’ in a film

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Ritchson intends to play “historical figures” in future projects.
The 41-year-old actor is known for his action roles in ‘Fast X’ and the TV series ‘Reacher’ but hopes to grow as a performer away from a genre he considers to be his “bread and butter”.
Alan told MovieWeb: “I love the action space. I mean, it’s kind of really my bread and butter and probably always will be. It’s just, I’m built for it. So, there’s a lot of that ahead in my future, and I’m looking forward to all those projects.
“But when you have the opportunity to tell a true story or play a historical figure, I mean, it’s really a great gift to an artist like myself, and it’s a huge challenge and a huge risk.
“And you really want to be authentic in those moments and honour their journey. But it really is like kind of the highest calling, I think, as an actor. So, I do look out for a lot of those roles.”
Alan’s latest role is in the drama film ‘Ordinary Angels’ – in which he plays a widowed father who is supported by a Kentucky community as his critically ill daughter requires a transplant – and he said the power of togetherness persuaded him to sign up for the movie.
The ‘Smallville’ actor told Deseret News: “I love the fact that, especially, this real-life hero, had so many struggles that he wasn’t able to use any form of toxic masculinity to cure and no violence could save him in this situation.
“I was drawn to the real-life drama that just calls an entire community to action.”

Lorenzo di Bonaventura thinks Madame Web is better isolated from other Spider-Man movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorenzo di Bonaventura wanted to keep ‘Madame Web’ detached from the rest of Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Universe.
The 67-year-old producer has worked on the new superhero film and revealed how he and director S.J. Clarkson felt it would be better for the development of Dakota Johnson’s character Cassie Webb if a standalone approach was taken.
In an interview with Collider, Lorenzo said: “Before I was involved there was a script, and before S.J. was involved as well. Both of us really saw the advantage in not having the burden of the attachment of all this other stuff that has gone on.
“You’d be silly to think you don’t pay homage to it and some acknowledgement, which we do, but it really freed us in a way to tell a pure story.”
Di Bonaventura explained that the isolated story allowed them to focus completely on the plot, which sees Cassie come to the aid of three young women with special powers (played by Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O’Connor) when her ability to see into the future presents her with the vision of a sinister individual (Tahar Rahim) taking the trio’s lives.
He said: “For both of us, that allowed us to get into what I love about Dakota’s journey. It’s not just simply, ‘Well, I’m gonna stand up and become the hero.’ It’s, ‘I’m scared. I don’t want attachment. I definitely don’t want responsibility for these three people. What the hell is happening to me? I’m going insane.’ And then, ‘What do I do now that I’m in this situation?’
“So, for me, freeing ourselves from that obligation, in a sense, was very freeing and allowed us to do a more complex ride with the hero.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly Smith says it is a “dream” to have won ‘Love Island: All Stars’ and can’t wait to have “normal dates” with her new partner.
The 29-year-old won the ITV reality show’s £50,000 cash prize with footballer Tom Clare, 24, during Monday (19.02.24) night’s final, presented by its 29-year-old host Maya Jama.
She has now said in her first official interview since leaving the show: “It’s like a dream, it’s actually really weird. Literally trying to process it. I don’t think it’s real yet. A big shock as well, we were well shocked!”
Molly added when asked by ITV how she found her experience on the show: “I would say at the start mine was pretty tragic but then when Tom came in, it really turned for the better. I actually really enjoyed it after he came in. I had a great time.”
In a joint chat with Tom, Molly told him about her favourite experience on the series: “Mine was our date, that was one of our favourite moments. It was beautiful as well.
“I liked the PDA’s as well, you know. Even though it was quite emotional, I liked seeing what had been going on.
“You got an insight and you saw what people had been hiding. But it’s quite hard to pick one moment!”
Molly became a hit with fans of the show after she moving on from her three-and-a-half-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Callum Jones, 27, and pursuing a romance with Tom.
Referencing her former partner, the blonde said when asked to reveal the biggest challenge she faced on ‘All Stars’: “Probably walking in and seeing the back of my ex’s head and living with him 24/7.
“At first it was weird and awkward but then towards the end it was fine. We actually get on really well and Tom gets on with him which is great.”
Callum got down to the final two on the show with his new love interest Jess Gale, 24, who entered the series late on with her twin sister Eve.
Molly and Callum met in 2020 during the ‘Love Island’ winter series but split in 2023, with Molly’s ex getting custody of their pug Winnie while she kept Pomeranian Nelly.
Tom said about his and Molly’s win: “It hasn’t sunk in for us both, it’s like a blur!… I feel like I knew what I wanted before I came in and I went for that and then I came out with Moll! I like to stay out of the drama and I’m so happy to be with Molly.”
Molly said Tom is coming to visit her in Manchester, adding: “I can’t wait to go on normal dates and get back to reality.”
Tom added: “I am moving back up North to be closer to my family, get back to football and hopefully back to Macclesfield FC, if they will have me back.”

Duncan Bannatyne reveals why he wouldn’t pitch on ‘Dragons’ Den’

OHMYGOSSIP — Duncan Bannatyne wouldn’t bother to pitch on ‘Dragons’ Den’.
The Scottish entrepreneur, who was an investor on the BBC show from 2005 to 2015, said he has always held to the principle of retaining 100 per cent of his businesses, unlike the businesspeople on the series who give away chunks of their firms for cash.
He told Metro: “I wouldn’t pitch on ‘Dragons’ Den’ as I have always retained 100 per cent of the businesses I have invested in.
“But if I were to champion any businesses it would be those that closely align with my own values.”
He added when asked if he is a spender or saver: “Both. I invest in long-term bonds with high interest rates, but I also spend a lot of money on my lifestyle. “There are times in your life where you must save for a specific purpose, like buying your first car or house, but it’s also important to enjoy money. I’m really enjoying my life right now.”
Duncan, who has an estimated net worth of around £511 million, added if he was down to his last £5 he would probably buy fast food.
He said: “If in dire financial straits, I might use it for a practical necessity, like a hamburger.
“However, I hope never to be in such a situation.”
When asked what the first “extravagant” he bought when he made it big, Duncan said: “My first extravagant purchase was a house. The opportunity coincided with the sale of my company, Quality Care Homes in 1996.
“I fell in love with the property.”
He also said he wouldn’t recommend heavy investment in Bitcoin and says his “guiding principle” is not regretting failing to invest in anything.
Duncan, who put cash into 36 businesses while on ‘Dragons’ Den’, added: “I don’t have any regrets – and that is very much my guiding principle.
“It’s important to be happy with the decisions you make at the time and with your position in life.
“What you do or don’t do is what makes you.
“I embrace my life’s choices and don’t dwell on missed opportunities.”

Dame Esther Rantzen slams UK law on assisted dying ‘a mess’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Esther Rantzen is slamming Britain’s approach to assisted dying as a “mess” as her family face being accused of murder if they help her pass away.
The 83-year-old broadcaster, who presenter the BBC’s ‘That’s Life!’ for 21 years, is pushing for an immediate law change in the issue on the UK after being told she has terminal stage four lung cancer and signing up to Swiss suicide clinic Dignitas.
She told 65-year-old LBC host Nick Ferrari about how she wants the public to join her campaign by writing to their MPs: “The intentions are to protect people in the last days of their life from being coerced into something by greedy relatives or other crimes of that kind.
“But as I have terminal cancer it is a possibility my life will become too painful (and) my suffering will be too great that even with the great palliative care skills that exist in this country, and in my local hospice, they won’t be able to help me and I want to die.
“If they go with me to Dignitas, where I have signed up just in case the law doesn’t change in time for me, they could be accused of murder or conspiring to bump me off. It’s a mess.
“What we need is people to have individual choice at that moment, which is literally life and death.”
Dame Esther launched a petition in January with the Dignity in Dying charity and is demanding a debate and a free vote by MPs on assisted dying.
It has been signed by 122,000 people including famous faces such as historian and royal biographer Jonathan Dimbleby, 79, whose brother Nicholas has motor neurone disease – as well as former ‘Woman’s Hour’ host Dame Jenni Murray, 73, who lost her mother to Parkinson’s and dad to lung cancer, as well as ‘The Great British Bake Off’ judge Dame Prue Leith, 83, whose brother David died from bone cancer.
Assisting someone to die is illegal and prohibited by the Suicide Act 1961 and carries a 14-year jail term.
Dame Esther, who is a grandmother of five, lost her TV producer husband Desmond Wilcox, 69, to heart disease in 2000.

Michelle Hardwick returns to ‘Emmerdale’ after maternity leave: ‘It’s like I’ve never been away!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Hardwick didn’t realise how much she missed ‘Emmerdale’ while away on maternity leave.
The 47-year-old actress has played Vanessa Woodfield on the ITV1 soap opera since 2012 but took time out to welcome baby Betty with wife Kate Brooks – who also serves as the show’s producer – in November 2022 and relished in the chance to go back to work even though she worried about not being able to remember her lines.
She told this week’s edition of Inside Soap magazine: “It’s fabulous. I never realised how much I missed the place! It also means I can finish a hot cup of tea and go to the toilet on my own without hearing the word ‘Mummy!’
“It feels as though I’ve never been away.
“I was worried about not being able to learn lines – but luckily they have gone back in, thank goodness!”
The soap star – who also has three-year-old Teddy with Kate – was written out of the show when her character headed to Canada following her split from Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) but managed to keep up with the serial before making a surprise return to screens earlier this month as she recalled being emotionally moved when teenager Heath Hope(Sebastian Dowling) was killed in a car crash over the New Year period.
She said: “I did manage to dip in and out. I cried my eyes out at Tony Audenshaw’s (Bob) performance when Heath died. I thought Tony, Susan Cookson (Wendy) and lovely little Gabby (Dowling, who plays Cathy) and the rest of the kids – and Lesley Dunlop (Brenda) – played a blinder. It was absolutely wonderful. They were really powerful episodes to watch!”
Michelle first announced that she and Kate had become parents for the second time with an Instagram post towards the end of 2022.
She wrote: “Introducing Betty Brooks to the world! Betty made a cheeky early appearance on Tuesday 15th November weighing 5lb 10ozs. We all love you so much our beautiful Betty B.”

‘The Voice’ set for ‘exciting new change’ after Olly Murs’ exit

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Voice’ is set to introduce judging duos to the panel.
Bosses of the ITV1 talent show are said to be in final talks with country music star Leann Rimes to replace Anne-Marie on the panel but when it comes to ‘Troublemaker’ singer Olly Murs – who has served as a ‘Voice’ judge for five years – his replacement will come in the form of a celebrity duo.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “This marks an exciting new change for the show that will shake up the format and keep it fresh as it moves into a new era.
“Having a famous duo is an exciting new concept which means the coaches will be able to support more groups who audition.
“Bosses are talking to a number of combos including stars who have performed together, are mates, were in girl or boy bands and also producer/talent combos.
The insider explained that the new format idea has come because the industry is “broader than it has ever been” and bosses are determined to “reflect” all genres of the music industry within the talent search, which awards an unknown act with a record deal and cash prize following blind auditions and a public vote.
The insider added: “The industry is broader than it has ever been and execs want the coaches to reflect that — the chart isn’t just pop, rock and RnB any more.
“Everything is still all to play for to ensure ‘The Voice’ gets the strongest line-up possible.”
The 12th series of ‘The Voice’ wrapped up just before Christmas when singing duo Jenna and Liv came out on top and the next series will air later this year, with former ‘Big Brother’ host Emma Willis at the helm.

The 55-year-old star reprises his role as Glossu Rabban in the sci-fi sequel and reflected on how he was moved to be given the part in the first place after convincing director Denis Villeneuve that he had the acting ability in ‘Blade Runner 2049’.
Reflecting on the phone call he had with the filmmaker, Dave told Collider: “Anything past, ‘I really want you to play this role’, I didn’t hear.
“You know my story; I had to fight really hard for the first ‘Blade Runner’ film. Like I had to do an audition, a makeup test, and screen test because originally Denis didn’t think I was right for the role, so I really had to prove myself.
“So a year or two later, when he called me for the Rabban role, he just called, and he said, ‘Hey, I have this role for you. I’d really love for you to play it.’ I mean, talk about choked up and me, like, tearing up. It was so validating to get that call.”
Dave hailed Villeneuve as a superb “storyteller” and praised his method of communicating what he wants from an actor.
The former WWE star said: “I think he’s one of the best storytellers I’ve ever met. I can only speak for him for what he brings out in me and my interaction with him, but everything is just such a conversation. It’s not like direction. It’s like we sit and talk.
“Even after every take, if he comes in and he wants to adjust my performance, it’s always, ‘I would like you to do this and this is why’. So he kind of gives a thought process to go with it.
“It’s a deeper process. And again, that’s just me personally, and my experience with him. I couldn’t tell you why he’s so great across the board. It’s just storytelling, but he’s just a master at what he does.”
