Ben Affleck in talks to direct for Red Platoon

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck is in talks to direct ‘Red Platoon’.
The ‘Live By Night’ filmmaker is said to be in discussions about helming the forthcoming Sony war movie based on the best-selling memoir by Clinton Romesha about the Battle of Kamdesh, which took place as part of the Afghanistan War in October 2009.
The US soldier led a counter-attack against the odds after 300 Taliban fighters attacked America’s Outpost Keating on the Afghan-Pakistan border in a pre-dawn raid, and the father-of-three was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in saving dozens of American lives.
Multiple sources have told the Tracking Board that Affleck is in the frame, and he is expected to call upon his brother Casey Affleck – who he last worked with in his directorial debut ‘Gone Baby Gone’ in 2007 – for the lead role.
Josh Bratman, George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Kerry Foster are all in line to produce the motion picture, and Adam Cozad has penned the majority of a draft script.
However, should Affleck sign up to helm the movie, he is expected to bring in his own scribe to rewrite the screenplay.
Affleck recently played Batman in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and he believes now is the ideal time to work for DC Comics.
He said: “This is a really nice time to work in DC. They’re hitting their stride.
“They’re getting it right. It’s starting to feel like it’s really working.
“I’ve never worked on a movie that didn’t do re-shoots. ‘Argo’, we did re-shoots for a week and a half. Four days on ‘Gone Baby Gone!'”

Sarah Harding was turned down by Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Sarah Harding was reportedly turned down by ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former Girls Aloud singer had auditioned for this year’s series of the ballroom and latin show because she was keen to follow in the footsteps of her former band mate Kimberley Walsh – who took part in the programme in 2012 – but bosses weren’t impressed by her and opted to recruit The Saturdays’ Mollie King instead.
A source told The Sun Online: “Sarah auditioned for this year’s series of ‘Strictly…’ but she wasn’t liked by bosses. Her ultimate ambition was to star on the show and be like her ex-band mate Kimberley, who had a great time on the programme. It was between her and Mollie from The Saturdays but Sarah lost out.”
But because she was snubbed by the BBC One show, Sarah decided to try out for ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ and she’s no doubt pleased she did as she went on to win Channel 5’s summer series last weekend following a series of mental breakdowns.
The insider added: “She’s had the last laugh now after winning ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ – though learning how to dance professionally was always her dream.”
Not only did she win the show but the 35-year-old star also managed to find love in the famous abode as she struck up a romance with fellow competitor Chad Johnson.
Despite gushing about one another, Sarah’s estranged father John – who she hasn’t spoken to for 17 years – thinks the ‘Bachelor’ star is bad news and will hurt her.
He said: “[Chad] acted as if he’s Sir Lancelot but he’s only thinking about himself, not her happiness. He’ll use her and then dump her, leaving her once again to pick up the pieces … Sarah has publicly shown that she is still confused and emotionally suffering after living for years in a bubble in the aftermath of fame.
“Chad isn’t what she needs in her life right now. Sadly but inevitably she’ll soon discover that he isn’t her Mr Right. He is typically brash and she knows nothing about him. He’s given nothing away about himself. He entered the house boasting only of his looks, so what does Sarah or anyone else really know about him?”

Celebrity Big Brother to air on Netflix or Amazon?

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ may air on Netflix or Amazon Prime from 2019.
The future of the reality TV show, which sees a bunch of stars thrown inside a house for three weeks while the public watch their every move, is already up in the air after Channel 5 boss Ben Frow recently publicly revealed he’d rather not have the series attached to his network because of the plummeting ratings in recent years.
But, although ‘CBB’ and its sister civilian show ‘Big Brother’ are tied to Channel 5 for at least another year due to sealed contracts, it looks like the online streaming sites are hoping to get their hands on the series, according to the Daily Star newspaper.
However, a spokesperson for Channel 5 have said that bosses at the network are not holding discussions with Endemol at the moment because they still have a year left.
A spokesman told The Sun Online: “Channel 5 still has another year left on the ‘Big Brother’ contract with Endemol so it’s too early to discuss further at this stage.”
‘Big Brother’ has kick-started the careers of unknown stars such as the late Jade Goody, Alison Hammond and Brian Dowling – turning them into household names since it started on Channel Four before switching to Channel Five in 2011.
But Ben recently claimed there must be something wrong with the format as young people would be rushing to sign up – like they have done with ITV’s ‘Love Island’.
He said: “I’ve got ‘Big Brother’ which has declined, declined, declined.”
It’s believed Ben wants to make Channel 5 “upmarket” by featuring documentaries and reality shows such as ‘Make or Break’, which launched this month.
The source said: “‘Big Brother’ is not one of Ben’s babies so he does not feel as passionately about it as some other projects.
“There is also the fact that it has lots of controversy and lots of cost which used to be balanced by the fact it had big ratings and was good for advertising, but that is not as true in 2017 and it has less impact each year.
“It is not must see TV anymore as it used to be a decade ago.”

Claire King and Debra Stephenson were drunk while filming Bad Girls

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire King and Debra Stephenson used to get drunk every Friday while filming ‘Bad Girls’.
The two actresses starred in the prison drama as Governor Karen Betts and evil Shell Dockley respectively and they have admitted they used to knock back bottle of booze at the end of every week because the storylines and set were quite “depressing” at times.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’ on Wednesday (30.08.17), Claire, 54, said to her former co-star: “Do you remember Fizzy Fridays? We used to go across to Tesco and get loads of picnic food and booze – hence the Fizzy Friday – and we had it at lunchtime when we still had filming in the afternoon. It was such good fun, it really was. You’d think it would be a nightmare with 30,40 women all trapped in the same area for eight months of the year, but actually we did make it fun, because it was such a depressing place to work in.”
Debra, 45, agreed with Claire and revealed she never let her children watch the show because she didn’t want them to see the explicit content.
‘Bad Girls’ ran from 1999 until it was pulled off air in 2006 because of a decline in viewers.
Despite the axe, the series received critical acclaim and even spawned a musical adaptation of the first series being titled ‘Bad Girls: The Musical’.
Both Claire and Debra have had a successful careers following the ending of ‘Bad Girls’ and they have both appeared on the ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’ – albeit at different times.
However, Debra – who played Frankie Baldwin in the soap from 2004 to 2006 – admitted she didn’t think she could return because the filming schedule was tough to cope with.
She said: “I don’t think I can see myself going back. It’s relentless… six days a week.”

Louis Walsh to be judge on Ireland’s Got Talent

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Walsh will be a judge on ‘Ireland’s Got Talent’.
The 65-year-old music manager – who was born in County Mayo – expressed his desire to do an Irish version of Simon Cowell’s hit show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ back in 2015 and, after two years of planning, the programme will finally debut at the beginning of next year with him and Michelle Visage on the judging panel.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (30.08.17), Louis said: “‘Ireland’s Got Talent’, yeah, it’s starting! Nobody knows this yet. It’s starting on TV3 in Ireland. It’s me and Michelle Visage – she’s fantastic. It’s going to be on TV in January.”
Not much else is known about the show but rumour has it that Louis was offered a staggering €200,000 (£185,000) in a last-minute attempt to get him on board.
A source told The Irish Herald newspaper previously: “TV3 is desperate to get a big name on board for the first series of the show. It wants to make a big impact with the new programme. Louis has the space in his schedule to do it but, as everyone knows, he doesn’t come cheap and it’s unclear if the broadcaster has the budget to afford him. Having said that, it is very keen to make the new show a success and prove that it can pull in the big-name stars for it.”
Meanwhile, now that he’s landed the gig on ‘IGT’, Louis’ schedule looks somewhat jam packed as he’s also been filming for the new series of ‘The X Factor’.
He explained: “Honestly, I love doing the job and every year we have a new set of people and I can’t wait to get started. I love working with these people, I love working with [the other judges] Simon, Sharon [Osbourne] and Nicole [Scherzinger] – I can’t wait to go in every day. I care about them. We’re all back [on the panel for a second year running] because it works, we’ve got good chemistry. We’re the best panel.”
And Louis thinks the judging panel works so well because they all offer something different with their talent and experience and they’re able to have fun with each other.
He said: “We’re honest with each other and we have fun. We have an artist in Nicole, we have a manager, Simon from the record label; we all bring different things.”

Ryan Thomas has meltdown on Celebrity Island over cramp

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Thomas had a meltdown in last night’s (29.08.17) debut episode of ‘Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls’ as he thought a shark had taken a chunk out of his leg.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star – who was known for playing tough boy Jason Grimshaw in the long-running soap – became a laughing stock among viewers yesterday when he let out a horrific scream while paddling in the ocean, sparking fears he’d been attacked or stung by a jellyfish, only to find out he had cramp.
Despite his obvious discomfort, fans couldn’t resist poking fun at his melodramatic behaviour as one viewer wrote: “When you make a sound like a shark bit your leg off and it turned out to be cramp #CelebrityIsland.”
Another added: “Cramp!! I thought he was stung or anything worse…”
And another fan said: “Biggest overreaction to cramp I’ve ever seen. Thought it was a jelly fish #CelebrityIsland. (sic)”
But it wasn’t just fans who found his reaction hilarious as his younger brother Scott – who took part in ‘Love Island’ last year – said: “I thought @ryanjamesthomas had been taken down by a crocodile!!! But oh no it was….cramp (sic).”
Although only one episode has aired thus far, Ryan certainly doesn’t look cut out for jungle life as he had another run in with nature later on in the show when him and his co-stars went on the hunt for some water and he stumbled upon a bees’ nest.
The 33-year-old hunk accidentally disturbed the busy creatures and was attacked relentlessly until he was covered in stings on his arm and one on his chest.
His brother Adam – who came third in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ last year – joked: “Hahaha in stitches here!!! Cramp and bee stings all in one day @ryanjamesthomas off to a good start #CelebrityIsland (sic)”
Meanwhile, Ryan’s jungle stint wasn’t a complete waste of time as he met and fell in love with fellow competitor Lucy Mecklenburgh while taking part in the challenge.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies don’t have time for sex

OHMYGOSSIP — Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies’ sex life has dried up since they left the ‘Love Island’ villa.
The loved-up duo – who were crowned the winners of the show last month – couldn’t keep their hands off one another when they were locked up inside the famous abode, but have admitted they’re barely getting frisky between the sheets anymore because they’re so busy.
Kem is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: “We’re just so busy now with work. We had way more sex when we were doing ‘Love Island’ compared o now because we haven’t got enough time. But Amber basically lives at mine, so when I work late I come home and get into bed with her. It’s nice just sleeping next to her knowing she’s there.”
However, the 21-year-old hunk hopes that will all change soon and can’t wait to see his beautiful girlfriend model the sexy lingerie she’s been promoting for Boux Avenue.
He said: “I haven’t even seen her in any of her sexy underwear from the new range she’s promoting. I’ve only seen them in the store. Hopefully she’ll give me a private show soon.”
Despite their lack of bedroom action, the pair are very loved up and have started talking about getting married and having kids – despite only getting together three months ago.
Kem said recently: “This is no banter. I can imagine myself having kids and a family with Amber. This is the bird I’ve made my girlfriend. I am in love, I want to be with her forever.”
Amber added: “I found something in someone I didn’t know was possible.”

EastEnders’ Jane Beale to burn to death?

OHMYGOSSIP — EastEnders’ Steven Beale looks set to murder his step-mother Jane Beale after he sets the family restaurant on fire and leaves her to burn to death inside.
The deranged chef – portrayed by Aaron Sidwell – has been told to get rid of the disabled housewife (Laurie Brett) once and for all by manipulative businessman Max Branning (Jake Wood) after she finds out about his revenge plot and discovers her step-son has been lying to his relatives about having an incurable brain tumour.
But, rather than coming clean about his actions and the bribe he’s fallen victim to, Steven decides the only way to keep his secret hidden is by killing off Jane.
It’s not known whether the blonde busybody manages to get out alive or whether Steven has a change of heart and pulls her out of the burning building, but this won’t be the first time the restaurant worker has attempted to kill his step-mother.
Steven – who has mental health issues – accidentally shot Jane in the stomach 10 years ago and, as a result, she is now unable to have a child of her own.
Although the outcome of the fire isn’t known, Aaron – who is set to bow out of the long-running soap this year in order to do some theatre work – has teased that his alter-ego will turn “full on evil” over the next coming weeks as he’s put under more pressure from his girlfriend Lauren Branning’s (Jacqueline Jossa) father Max.
He said recently: “He’s willing to go as far as it takes, whatever that might be and whoever it may hurt. We’re really going to see this tug of war – Steven’s always been this character that could go either way.
“He could go full evil or he could redeem himself and become the good guy. I think we’re really going to see that battle across this week especially.”

Megan McKenna won’t quit TOWIE

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan McKenna has no plans to leave ‘The Only Way is Essex’.
The 24-year-old reality TV star recently headed out to Nashville, Tennessee, in a bid to kick start her music career and, while the whole thing was recorded for her new three-part show ‘There’s Something About Megan’, she’s not turning her back on the ITVBe series any time soon as she loves being in front of the cameras.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I love being on TV I’m not gonna lie. I love it, I love doing it and I feel like I’m quite good at reality – I never thought I would be. ‘TOWIE’ is right for me now. I feel like in my career it’s given me such an amazing stepping stone from getting out of that ‘mental Meg’ stage and people seeing the real me. This is like my life, why wouldn’t they follow me. Essex is where I’ve grown up.”
But, although she’s determined to stay on screens for the foreseeable future, the brunette beauty is keen to juggle it with her passion for music.
She explained: “I want to be a singer and I will be a singer. I’ve had a lot of knockbacks and I’ve never ever given up.
“I’ve made more time music. I’ve always had it there while I’m doing the TV. But it’s always been a part of my life, I’m just gonna juggle it. I was in Nashville for a month, I’ve come back, done ‘TOWIE’ and then I’ll have a few months off from ‘TOWIE’ and will hopefully be going on am amazing tour. I’ll definitely fit it in properly.”
‘There’s Something About Megan’ will hit screens on September 3 at 10pm on ITVBe.

Chris Hughes hates fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hughes “hates” his new-found fame.
The ‘Love Island’ hunk became a fan favourite while he was taking part in the reality TV show over the summer months but he has admitted he’s still adjusting to the lifestyle and wishes he could go back home and escape the limelight for a bit.
Speaking to new! magazine, he said: “I hate it. I hate fame – straight up.
“I’m nice, so I smile all the time when people want photos, but I don’t enjoy it. It’s not glamorous and I just don’t enjoy it. It’s a different lifestyle.
“At times I just miss home, because all my mates are that way and my family and stuff. And it’s different – it’s quieter. I almost feel like how full-on it’s been for the three weeks since we’ve been out, that quietness would be nice.”
And because he’s so popular with the ladies, the 24-year-old farmer has been snapped up for loads of personal appearances and, although he enjoys the money, he wants to cut back because he doesn’t enjoy having photographs all the time.
He explained: “They’re hard. I’ve got 98 booked and I thought, ‘This is all right, it’s a good little earner.’ But they’re kind of… I drank on the first four and was there for three or four hours, and I can’t keep up with that lifestyle. So it’s just about doing what I need to do, making sure everyone has a picture and being nice really.”
But Chris’ fame is no doubt set to grow even more over the coming months as he and his co-star Kem Cetinay – who developed a bromance in the villa – have been snapped up for their own television show ‘Straight Outta Love Island’.
Kem said: “Me and Chris have actually got a TV show coming out about rapping. It’s coming out in October. All I can say is…it’s a little bit about the bromance and it’s a little bit a about the rapping.”

Stephen Bear bans Charlotte Crosby from ex talk

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Bear has banned his on/off girlfriend Charlotte Crosby from talking about her ex-boyfriend Gary ‘Gaz’ Beadle in public and in private.
The former ‘Ex on the Beach’ star has agreed to give his relationship with the blonde beauty another go but only if she sticks to the “rules” he’s put in place because hearing about her dating history on television and in magazines makes him “jealous”.
A source told The Sun Online: “Bear and Charlotte are back together – everyone knew they would be. Part of the reason they’re back together is that Charlotte’s agreed not to speak about her ex, Gaz, either on TV or in private.
“Bear gets SO jealous and has real issues about Charlotte’s exes. It makes him insecure every time Gaz is bought up, despite the fact Gaz and Charlotte have moved on and she’d never do anything to hurt Bear.
“He just hates when her past is bought up – it really makes him upset. He can’t listen if, in interviews, Charlotte is asked about Gaz – everyone saw their love story play out on ‘Geordie Shore’, and Bear doesn’t want to feel like everyone is comparing him to Gaz. It’s extreme but Charlotte is head over heels in love with him and just wants to make things work with him, so she’s agreed to these rules.”
The turbulent couple came to blows last week after the 27-year-old star broke down in tears during an interview on Irish television after she was asked how she felt about Gaz – who she dated for five years – having a baby with his girlfriend Emma McVey.
Her emotional breakdown led to the 27-year-old hunk dumping her online – without telling her first – while he was in Las Vegas with his friend for a boxing fight.
He wrote at the time: “Sadly me and Charlotte have split up. We have had a good run but we wasn’t right for each other (sic).”
However, Charlotte – who suffered an ectopic pregnancy last year with Gaz’s baby – later took to her Instagram account to reveal they were back together and “stronger.”

Jeremy McConnell to make TV comeback

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy McConnell is set to make a reality TV comeback – but it’ll have to work around his probation.
The former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star – who was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Davis earlier this month – has been given the opportunity to rebuild his life after bosses from ‘Ex on the Beach’ approached him about taking part in the new series but, although the heavily-inked hunk is all for the small screen project, he needs to get permission from the Probation Services in Ireland.
A source told The Sun Online: “Jeremy really wants to get back to his day job and is pursuing several TV opportunities. He’s made some mistakes this year but having the chance to rebuild his career means everything to him. The only issue he has to work around is being on probation but MTV bosses are more than aware that he needs permission from the authorities to film.”
The Irish heartthrob was handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence a few weeks ago for attacking the former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress at her home in Liverpool at the beginning of March this year.
Jeremy – who has eight-month-old son Caben with Stephanie – has also been ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service and attend a Building Better Relationships course.
A three-year restraining order has also been put in place – meaning he’s banned from contacting the 24-year-old actress and her relatives and even entering the road she lives on.
News that Jeremy is toying with the idea of taking part in ‘Ex on the Beach’ probably won’t sit well with Stephanie as it’s believed their arguments earlier this year stemmed from that TV opportunity.
The pair met and fell in love in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house in January 2016 but their relationship has been rocked with rows, make ups and break ups over the past 20 months.

Chloe Ferry can’t breathe after nose job

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Ferry “can’t breathe” properly after her recent nose job.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ star went under the knife just over a year ago to alter her “ugly” snout but she has admitted she deeply regrets having the surgery because her nostrils are too small and she now really struggles to get enough oxygen through it.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: “I regret my nose – I hate my nose. It’s just too small, my nostrils need to be widened. I can’t really breathe out of my nose.”
But her botched nose op hasn’t put her off getting anymore surgery as the 21-year-old star is desperate to have a boob job because she hates her “saggy” bosoms.
She said in response to fans who slammed her for planning yet another operation to change her appearance: “My advice is that people are going to give you hate but just ignore it, they’re just jealous at the end of the day.”
However, her decision to get her bust boosted came as a surprise to fans as she previously vowed never to get anything done to her chest as she liked her boobs.
She said when asked about altering her 34C bust: “I’d never get a boob job because I have nice boobs. Besides, big boobs are out of fashion now.”
Since joining the boozy MTV show two years ago, Chloe has had veneers, Botox, eyebrow tattoos and dermal cheek fillers and, although fans believe fame has changed her, she has admitted she wanted to alter her appearance before she landed the gig on screen but couldn’t afford it at the time.
She said previously: “If you don’t like something about yourself get it changed. Before ‘Geordie Shore’ I could never afford to get anything changed so now I’ve got the money I’ll do whatever makes me happy.”

Chanelle Hayes gives birth to baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Chanelle Hayes has given birth to a baby boy.
The former ‘Big Brother’ star – who already has six-year-old son Blakely with her former partner Matthew Bates – has announced she and her boyfriend Ryan Oates welcomed their son into the world in the early hours of Tuesday (29.08.17) morning.
Taking to her Twitter account, the 29-year-old television personality said: “Ryan, Blakely and I are absolutely over the moon to announce that the new addition to our little family has arrived safely and in a perfect package on Tuesday 29th August 2017 at 1:34am. #ThreeBecomesFour, (sic)” followed by a family of emojis.
The brunette beauty has had somewhat of a difficult pregnancy as she’s been riddled with acute morning sickness and has spent a large amount of time in hospital.
She said earlier this year: “I was really really sick. I was sick all day and all night. I was in hospital on a drip. I’ve been really really poorly. I’ve been on drugs for chemotherapy patients.
“I’ve lost loads of weight. I’ve lost a lot of weight but baby has everything it needs. I lost about two stone. You can’t really tell because i’ve got this big belly.”
Chanelle announced her pregnancy back in March and admitted at the time that her baby news came as a huge surprise because the doctors had previously warned her that she may struggling to conceive because of her weight.
She explained: “I didn’t have a period since may last year. It didn’t even cross my mind that I was pregnant. I have polycystic ovary syndrome anyway so I’ve always known about that. I didn’t think I was infertile but I was made aware that when I was putting all this weight on that unless my weight is manage, the chances get smaller and smaller to conceive. I wasn’t very happy about that.”
Chanelle found out she was pregnant when doctors carried out routine blood tests to find out why she wasn’t having a period but her boyfriend Ryan didn’t believe her when she told him they were having a baby – their first child – together.
She said: “Ryan didn’t believe me. He thought I was lying. I’d literally just opened a speeding ticket and the doctors were like you need to come in. My heart dropped.”

Calum Best vows to shed his playboy image

OHMYGOSSIP — Calum Best wants to shed his playboy image.
The 36-year-old star – who is the son of soccer legend George Best – is known for his turbulent love life, but Calum has revealed he wishes to overhaul his public image and find his ideal girl to settle down with.
He shared: “I want to find someone special and definitely create a family – it just depends when, who and how.”
But Calum – who has previously dated the likes of Georgia Salpa, Sarah Harding and Jodie Marsh – admitted he’s found it hard to establish a long-term romance, acknowledging his celebrity status has only served to muddle his thinking.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “The tricky thing for me is I’ve been dating in the public eye since I was 19-years-old and people are like ‘well why haven’t you found her yet?’
“It’s rare I find someone that I want to commit and spend some time with.
“Not in an arrogant way – it’s not because I can’t find any dates, not because I’m struggling to go on dates, it’s because I’m finding someone to commit to.”
Calum also said he would love to be like his “iconic” father, but insisted he would never go down the route of alcoholism like his dad as he’s so health-conscious.
George died aged 59 in 2005 as a result of his excessive drinking, and Calum has vowed he won’t suffer the same fate.
He explained: “In many ways I’d love to be my dad – the guy was an iconic figure.
“I think where I messed up a bit in my youth was I chose to do something similar that I knew could do and that was party.
“I’m never going to be an alcoholic. I enjoy a drink, but I know, I see it, I monitor it but I know I’m all good. I drink more protein shakes than I do alcohol drinks.
“I just launched a book about healthy living. So I’m on a different page in that respect. I think because I partied so much in my youth it takes so f***ing long to clear up that stuff.
“From 29 to 36 I’ve tried to get away from that. I still enjoy myself, I still indulge. But at one point I was out every night.”

Greg James to host ‘Top of the Pops-style show’

OHMYGOSSIP — Greg James is to host a new ‘Top of the Pops’-style TV show.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ has signed up to co-host the music programme alongside a different A-list celebrity each week, and he “can’t wait” to get started on the six-part series.
A BBC source said: “Greg is the perfect host for the new music show. He’s great under pressure and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of music. He can’t wait to get going on it.
“The show is starting out as a six-parter, with bosses hopeful it will become a proper series if it takes off.”
Greg – who has hosted Radio 1’s drivetime slot for the past five years – is said to have beaten off huge competition to land the presenting role.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: “There was huge interest in the regular hosting job, but Greg has beaten the competition.”
James Corden has a hand in the show of sorts as it will be produced by Fulwell 73, the company which co-produces his ‘Late Late Show’ alongside CBS.
In January, the ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star joined the firm as their fifth full partner.
Fulwell 73’s Gabe Turner and Suzi Aplin will act as executive producers on the new music show, which is expected to take over from the previously axed chart TV series ‘Top of the Pops’.
The programme previously aired from January 1964 to July 2006 before being shelved due to dwindling ratings, but Christmas specials still air every year.
The show featured performances from a selection of that week’s best-selling pop artists and had a rundown of the UK singles chart.
