Gemma Atkinson wants ‘tall’ dance partner

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson wants to be paired with a “taller” dance partner on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 32-year-old actress is set to compete on this year’s competitive show against Ruth Langsford, Mollie King and Aston Merrygold, and although the blonde beauty is “not bothered” what professional she joins forces with, she hopes she will not be towering above him.
Speaking to New! magazine, she said: “I don’t mind. I think they’re all great. As long as it’s someone taller than me I’m not bothered.”
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ star has admitted she is very “competitive” and is fearful she will let her partner down and get worse every week.
She explained: “I am, but I’m more competitive with myself. I’m not going to want to let my partner down. I’m going to graft and graft because I don’t want to let them down more than anything. And I’d like to get better each week score-wise. I don’t want to get worse.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Emmerdale’ star has been taking tips from last year’s champion Ore Oduba in a bid to win the glitterball trophy.
She said: “I’ve just been speaking to Ore – he’s been giving me a few tips.
“He told me to take it week by week, to enjoy it and not to put too much pressure on myself and just have fun. I’d love to get to the final. But like Ore said, I can’t think about that. He said to take it week by week, so that’s what I’m going to do.”
And Gemma is nervous about competing on the fifteenth series of the BBC One programme.
She said: “Yes, [I’m] very excited. A little bit [nervous] but I’m more excited.”

Nina Dobrev went to medical boot camp for Flatliners role

OHMYGOSSIP — Nina Dobrev completed a “medical boot camp” for ‘Flatliners’.
The 28-year-old actress stars in the upcoming horror thriller by Niels Arden Oplev and for the role as the medical student Marlo, Dobrev and the rest of the cast had to undertake training to make the science and medical scenes look “believable” on camera.
Speaking to OceanDrive.com, Dobrev said: “We went through a rigorous medical boot camp to learn about everything to do with reviving a human in a dire situation – CPR, how to use the defibrillator, how to get heart monitors, and if that’s not working, how to physically check the body. We had to do that so that we would look believable on camera as if we had been doing it for years. I don’t want to say that I could save a person’s life, but I could definitely assists in keeping them alive until the proper paramedics came if something were to happen. My character especially, she’s the most hardheaded, stubborn, by-the-rules kind of girl, and she’s competitive, so she wanted to go above and beyond and test the limit.
“The film explores different themes of life and death and moral compasses and doing the right thing. If you don’t do the right thing, does it weigh heavy on you? Will you do something about it or will you just turn a blind eye?”
Dobrev – who shot to fame in ‘The Vampire Diaries’ – stars alongside Ellen Page, Diego Luna and James Norton in the movie, which is a sequel to the cult 1990 movie of the same name.
Kiefer Sutherland is reprising his role as medical student Nelson Wright from the original film but the character has changed his name in an effort to move on from the near-death experiments of his earlier years.

Paul Greengrass to get BFI Fellowship

OHMYGOSSIP — The British Film Institute has announced that Paul Greengrass is to be honoured with the BFI Fellowship prize.
The acclaimed director – who is famous for his work on ‘The Bourne’ franchise, ‘United 93’ and ‘Captain Phillips’ – will be given the highest accolade at this year’s 61st BFI London Film Festival at the event’s awards ceremony October 14.
Speaking about the award, Greengrass admitted he was “particularly touched”, and added he owed the BFI “an enormous debt”.
The English filmmaker said: “I’m honoured and thrilled to receive the 2017 BFI Fellowship. The BFI does an extraordinary job, leading our industry both nationally and internationally. It is a beacon of excellence, and most importantly an imaginative and committed champion of new talent. On a personal level, I’m particularly touched, as the BFI has always supported my career and Bloody Sunday was financed through the National Lottery 15 years ago. Like so many people in our industry, I owe this wonderful organisation an enormous debt.”
Josh Berger CBE, Chair of the BFI, has also released a statement explaining that Greengrass, 62, had been chosen as this year’s recipient for his “powerful and courageous storytelling”.
He said: “I am incredibly proud to be presenting this year’s BFI Fellowship to the talented Paul Greengrass, a director, writer and producer whose skill for storytelling is as powerful and courageous as the stories and figures he brings to life in the cinema and on the small screen.
“As a filmmaker, Paul has been a true pioneer, bringing his instinct and experience from making hard-hitting programmes, such as those for World in Action, into the world of cinema.
“His distinct ability to combine the visceral with the cerebral and offer a nuanced picture of heroism has injected a bold new realism into action thriller movies, leaving audiences around the world transfixed and eager for more.”

Francis Lee flattered by Brokeback Mountain comparison

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Lee insists it is very “flattering” that his debut film ‘God’s Own Country’ has been compared to ‘Brokeback Mountain’.
The 48-year-old filmmaker has helmed his first feature length movie and after receiving fantastic reviews when it premiered at Sundance in January the British-set gay love story has been compared to Ang Lee’s 2005 drama about two cowboys who fall for each other and Francis is delighted with the praise.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, he said: “I’m not shying away from it, it’s flattering. Ang Lee is an incredible filmmaker. But it is one of those things that gets written in headlines, but when people see the film they go, ‘Well, it’s actually not like ‘Brokeback Mountain’. It feels like such a different story and such a different world. The films are like chalk and cheese in that sense.”
The film follows the story of Johnny Saxby (Josh O’Connor), a Yorkshire sheep farmer who falls in love with Romanian migrant worker Gheorghe Ionescu (Alec Secareanu) and the filmmaker said he wanted to tell the story visually through sex scenes as he isn’t a “big fan of dialogue”.
He said: “It’s the funniest thing that we’re still talking about sex scenes in gay films. I’m not a big fan of dialogue. So he [Johnny] wasn’t going to have a conversation where he goes, ‘I’m feeling a bit like this now.’ I had to tell it visually. That’s where the sex really played in.”
Francis sent the two leading stars to work on a farm for two weeks to learn the realities of the work in a bid to avoid “fakery”.
He said: “I don’t like fakery. I wanted everything to be real.”
Francis has had a deluge of work offers due to the reaction to ‘God’s Own Country’ but he has so far resisted taking on a big studio project because he doesn’t want to commit to a huge movie yet.
He said: “The money is tempting, because I don’t have any. But this experience has taught me that a film is going to take at least three years of your life to make. And to be able to care enough about all those tiny little details, you have to love it. It needs to feel like a compulsion.”

Josh O’Connor was gripped by God’s Own Country script

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh O’Connor was “gripped” by the script of ‘God’s Own Country’.
‘The Durrells’ actor is starring as Johnny in the debut feature by writer and director Francis Lee and O’Connor has admitted the filmmaker didn’t have to pitch the film for him as he was “gripped” from page one.
Speaking to Time Out London magazine, O’Connor said: “Francis didn’t actually need to pitch the film as such. I was sent his script and was gripped from page one. After sending a tape of a couple of scenes I then met Francis and it was obvious that he was an extremely talented filmmaker as well as an extraordinary writer.
“We got on extremely well, too. I had no hesitations at all. It’s not often that you get the chance to play a character so different to yourself.
“Johnny is someone I have so much sympathy for but not necessarily a whole lot in common with. That was a very exciting prospect for me.”
The film follows the story of Johnny, a gay farmer who falls in love with a migrant worker Gheorghe (Alec Secareanu) and the actor has had a positive response from the LGBT+.
He said: “The reaction so far has been unbelievable. From the first showing at Sundance in January, we’ve had audiences from all sorts of backgrounds and the response has been universally positive.
“So far the LGBT+ community has responded with love, which is great. We want people to continue to enjoy the hopefulness of Johnny’s story.”
‘God’s Own Country’, which is slated to be released in October this year, has been compared to the hit Ang Lee movie ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and the actor worked on a farm for two weeks and “delivered sheep”.
He said: “I worked on the farm for two weeks before we filmed. The locals seemed fairly excited by the prospect to be honest.
“I delivered sheep, fixed fences, moved cows around the place. It was hard work and gave me an insight into the world that Johnny inhabits. But I’d say my lambing skills are limited at best!”

Evangeline Lilly unveils Wasp costume

OHMYGOSSIP — Evangeline Lilly has treated fans to a sneak preview of her wearing her new superhero costume as the Wasp for the upcoming ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ movie.
The 38-year-old actress starred as Hope van Dyne in the 2015 Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ‘Ant-Man’ and in the sequel she will take on her superhero alter ego alongside Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.
Lilly logged on to Instagram on Monday (28.08.17) to show herself in character and pay tribute to Jack Kirby, the comic book artist who jointly created Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Lilly’s accompanying caption read: “On set today, celebrating the artist who helped create this amazing character by bringing her to life! I am honoured to be playing The Wasp on what would be Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday. All hail Jack Kirby and The Wasp! #ThankYouJackKirby #AntManAndTheWasp #bts ‘behindthescenes #onset (sic)”
Kirby along with Stan Lee and Larry Lieber created Janet van Dyne, the mother of her on-screen character and the original Wasp, and Hank Pimm – the original Ant-Man – with the mighty miniature hero first making an appearance in the pages of Marvel comic Tales to Astonish #27 in January 1962.
In ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, Michelle Pfeiffer will portray Janet, the wife of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, in the upcoming sequel.
In the comic books, Janet was the original Wasp and a founding member of the Avengers, and continued as a superhero after her husband retired, but she eventually went missing in another dimension and was assumed to be dead.
The rest of the cast includes Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo and Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster.
Michael Pena will also star in the film, which sees Peyton Reed, who helmed 2015’s ‘Ant-Man’.
Rudd is also set to appear as his superhero alter ego in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ movie.
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ is scheduled for release in July 2018.

Reese Witherspoon joins This Above All

OHMYGOSSIP — Reese Witherspoon and Marc Webb will team up for ‘This Above All’.
The Hollywood star will produce and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ director will helm the forthcoming film based on the true story of Megan Phelps-Roper, a former member of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church.
She used to protest cultural events and funerals, among other things, with a picket sign and her Twitter handle but following discussions with social media users she questioned her strong beliefs.
Megan took to tough decision to leave the church – which was founded by her grandfather Fred Phelps – in 2012 along with her sister Grace, only to be disowned by their family.
The motion picture will be based on her memoir and a New Yorker article written by Adrian Chen.
Nick Hornby will pen the script and he can’t wait to team up with Witherspoon again.
He said: “Megan’s extraordinary story says so much about so many things in contemporary America, and I’m really excited about this project.
“I’m looking forward to working with the brilliant Marc Webb, CNÉ and with my friends Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea and River Road, with whom I enjoyed such a good relationship during the making of ‘Wild’.”
Hornby wrote 2014 drama ‘Wild’, in which Witherspoon starred in and produced.
Webb will also produce the movie alongside Witherspoon, Dawn Ostroff, Jeremy Steckler, Bruna Papandrea, and Bill Pohlad.

Ed Skrein quits Hellboy reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Skrein has quit the ‘Hellboy’ reboot.
The 34-year-old British actor had signed up to play Major Ben Daimo, a consultant to the titular character at the Bureau for Paranormal Research, in the Neil Marshall reboot but has left the project amid outcry over whitewashing.
The casting of the ‘Deadpool’ star had been slammed by fans, as the character is originally portrayed as Japanese-American in the comic book.
Ed said in a statement on Twitter: “It is clear that representing this character in a culturally accurate way holds significance for people, and that to neglect this responsibility would continue a worrying tendency to obscure ethnic minority stories and voice in the Arts. I feel it is important to honour and respect that. Therefore I have decided to step down so the role can be cast appropriately.
“Representation of ethnic diversity is important, especially to me as I have a mixed heritage family. It is our responsibility to make moral decisions in difficult times and to give voice to inclusivity. It is my hope that one day these discussions will become less necessary and that we can help make equal representation in the Arts a reality.”
The plot in the new movie follows Hellboy as he battles with a medieval evil wizard who is hell-bent on destroying humankind.
David Harbour has already been cast as Hellboy and will be joined by Milla Jovovich, 41, as the Blood Queen and Ian McShane, 74, as Professor Broom, the scientist who adopts the titular demon child, in the Marshall-helmed movie.
The part of Professor Broom was originally brought to life by the late John Hurt in the Ron Perlman starring-movies ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Hellboy 2: The Golden Army’.
The film is expected to start shooting this September.
The upcoming project has been in the pipeline for some time, but the reboot is set to happen without original director Guillermo del Toro, who couldn’t agree with the studio’s vision for the movie.
Instead, Marshall – who worked on the likes of ‘The Descent’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ – is taking charge of the film.

Charlotte Crosby wanted baby before ex Gaz Beadle

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Crosby thought she’d have a baby before her ex-boyfriend Gary ‘Gaz’ Beadle.
The 27-year-old reality star dated the dark-haired hunk on and off for five years, and although the pair have since moved on, the news he is expecting his first child with his girlfriend Emma McVey has reportedly “hit her hard”.
An insider told New! magazine: “The fact that he’s moved on quicker than she had, and that he’ll soon be a dad … has hit her hard.”
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ star – who is dating Stephen Bear – is even more cut up about the news because she’s broody and is “always” talking about baby names.
The source said: “She’s so broody and is always talking about baby names. I guess she just thought she’d be first.”
The news Gary will become a father struck a chord with his former flame because she suffered an ectopic pregnancy last year when she was in a relationship with the 29-year-old heartthrob and recent evens have brought the memories back.
The source explained: “The news brought back some thought she’s tried to put to the back of her mind. She carries the memory of her ectopic pregnancy every day and the baby she never had. She has tried to move past her issues with Gaz, but there’s no denying this is a huge smack in the face and it was something she always wanted for herself and was devastated she never had.”
And Charlotte has been left feeling even more “fragile” as her partnership with Stephen – also known as Bear – has been touch and go lately and seemed to crumble even more when she broke down in tears during an interview in Ireland last week.
The source said: “The breakdown on Irish TV only adds to her embarrassment over her outburst following her row with Bear and has left her feeling fragile to say the least.”

John Thomson slams internet dating

OHMYGOSSIP — John Thomson thinks internet dating is a “waste of time.”
The ‘Cold Feet’ actor is keen to get back out there after his 10-year marriage with his wife Samantha Sharp ended in divorce in 2015, but he has given up hope on finding someone online as no one believes it’s the real him and he feels like he’s “shopping” for women.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “I’m kind of drifting now. I’ve had enough of online dating. No one believes it’s me, they think it’s a rogue profile. It’s just kind of awful. It’s like shopping for women and I don’t like it. It’s such a waste of time.”
But the 48-year-old star – who has two children Sophia, seven, and Olivia, 15, with his ex-wife – certainly isn’t short of offers as he has fans sending him their numbers.
He explained: “Fan mail is pre-opened when I receive it just in case there’s anything sensitive. I mean it’s very different when you’re in Aerosmith and your bouncers point at, ‘Her, her, her, her’ and they’re all taken off to the hotel. That’s a different kind of set-up isn’t it? But ‘Cold Feet’s not like that!
“I’ve been asked out on dates on Twitter and I’ve had phone numbers sent to me. I’ve had randoms ask me on Facebook for dates. I just don’t respond.
“It’s not in my nature and I just feel it’s probably best. I’ll say, ‘look I’m in a relationship’ and maybe sometimes I am and sometimes I’m not, just to shut the door.”
And it’s hardly surprising he’s become more popular with the ladies as he’s seen as a “unlikely sex symbol” since he whipped out his bare bottom in Cold Feet’s series finale.
He said: “Well that’s the ultimate backhanded compliment really. I think that’s because I was packing a few more pounds back in the day. I mean I’m not too bad these days, really. I look after myself so I think I look much better than I used to in the show. If I was an unlikely sex symbol then, I don’t see why I’m not a likelier one now.”

Roman Kemp fancies Montana Brown

OHMYGOSSIP — Roman Kemp “really fancies” Montana Brown.
The 24-year-old radio presenter was “excited” when he found out the ‘Love Island’ beauty has split from her boyfriend Alex Beattie – who she met in the famous villa back in June – because it meant he was in the chance of nabbing her for himself.
Speaking to The Sun Online, he said: “I really fancy Montana – she’s beautiful isn’t she? We actually went to the same school so I thought that could help me.
“There’s nothing wrong with having a bit of mutual ground is there? I was excited when I saw she had split from Alex – I started following her on Twitter.”
But the news that he has his eye on the 21-year-old wannabe presenter will unlikely sit well with her co-star Georgia Harrison as she recently admitted she finds Roman really “fit” after they met one another at V Festival in Essex two weeks ago.
She said: “Obviously we did meet at V fest and I heard he was talking about me when I was on ‘Love Island’, we’re just literally friends, but I do think he’s really fit. He seems like such a lovely boy and I don’t think you come across that much these days especially in this industry, you can tell he’s a lovely person.”
And the 22-year-old blonde babe knew he wouldn’t find he attractive.
She added: “Whether or not he would want to pursue something with me, I don’t know – I doubt it! I would be very shocked if someone like him would want to go out with someone like me to be honest. I get like this every time there’s a boy I like I just think he won’t like me. It’s really weird, I don’t put myself down but when it comes to men, as soon as I like someone I just feel like I’m not good enough to talk to them.
“If I know a boy likes me I can keep him on his toes, but as soon as I start to like them I think, ‘Oh my god no, he’s not going to like me.’ It’s definitely something I need to work on. Maybe it’s because I’ve been knocked in previous relationships, when it gets to the point when I do like someone it just feels like it’s going to happen again.”

Emmerdale’s Jai Sharma to be dad

OHMYGOSSIP — Emmerdale’s Jai Sharma is in for a shock this week when he finds out his girlfriend Nell Fairfax is pregnant with his child.
The factory owner – portrayed by Chris Bisson – will be forced to make some drastic decisions in his life over the next few weeks after his partner – who he’s only been dating since the beginning of the year – reveals she is carrying his baby.
Chris said: “I think things move quite quickly between Jai and Nell and he comes under a bit of pressure and maybe gets pushed along a little bit quicker than he would like to go. But Nell’s pregnancy forces the issue.”
The couple’s shock baby news forces the businessman to pop the question to the recovering drug addict (Scarlett Archer), but the show’s executive producer has teased that it may not be the happy ever after fans are expecting.
Iain MacLeod explained: “(Having a baby) is a big, intimidating life event and Jai and Nell are still quite new; I know soap years are like dog years but it’s still quite early for them. It’s a big intimidating life event, isn’t it? And as Chris said, Jai and Nell are still quite new really. I know soap years are a bit like dog years. It’s a long-term relationship but it’s still quite early for that kind of news.I think it’s daunting really. It’s not that he’s dragging his heels or doesn’t want this, it’s just that it’s happening slightly more quickly than he may have wanted. I think there’s all kinds of reasons for Jai to be a bit anxious but I think he’s still seeing this as his happy ending, it’s not that he’s a reluctant party in it all.”

Piers Morgan breaks three ribs

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan has broken three ribs after suffering a nasty fall.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host has been left in agony after cracking the bones in an accident, but he has has not yet revealed the circumstances surrounding his tumultuous tumble.
Piers has been treated at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in Fulham, London, and he praised NHS staff for their assistance in his hour of need.
Revealing his injury on his Twitter account, he posted: “BREAKING (literally…) NEWS: I’ve broken 3 ribs falling flat on my a**e. Thanks to @ChelwestFT staff for speedy treatment. (sic)”
The injury could delay Piers’ return to ‘GMB’ with co-host Susanna Reid after the regular presenters had the summer off from the ITV breakfast show.
The pair are due to resume duties on Monday September 4 following their lengthy break which began in July. In their absence Richard Madeley, Jeremy Kyle and Eamonn Holmes have been filling in for Piers over the last six weeks, with Ranvir Singh and Charlotte Hawkins stepping in for Susanna.
Piers, 52, has a history of rib injuries and previously broke one of his bones back in December 2013 when the keen cricket fan faced a barrage of six deliveries from Australian fast bowler Brett Lee for a TV segment on Sky Sports.

Sarah Harding’s dad thinks she’s on verge of ‘nervous breakdown’

OHMYGOSSIP — Sarah Harding’s estranged father thinks she’s on the verge of a “nervous breakdown.”
The former Girls Aloud singer sparked concerns for her mental wellbeing earlier this month after she suffered a series of meltdowns in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house but, although she hasn’t spoken to her dad John for 17 years, he is adamant he’ll always be there for the blonde beauty if she needs him when things go wrong.
Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: “Sarah risks suffering a nervous breakdown – but if that happens I want her to know that I’ll always be there for her.”
And John, 64, doesn’t think Chad Johnson – who Sarah met and fell in love with while they were locked up in the abode – is good for her and will eventually break her heart.
He explained: “[Chad] acted as if he’s Sir Lancelot but he’s only thinking about himself, not her happiness. He’ll use her and then dump her, leaving her once again to pick up the pieces … Sarah has publicly shown that she is still confused and emotionally suffering after living for years in a bubble in the aftermath of fame.
“Chad isn’t what she needs in her life right now. Sadly but inevitably she’ll soon discover that he isn’t her Mr Right. He is typically brash and she knows nothing about him. He’s given nothing away about himself. He entered the house boasting only of his looks, so what does Sarah or anyone else really know about him?”
This isn’t the first time John has expressed his concerns for Sarah’s wellbeing as he claimed a few weeks ago – while she was still in the house – that she was being “exploited” for ratings and bosses should arrange for her to leave the building.
He said at the time: “Sarah’s being cruelly exploited for ratings purposes. It would be in her best interests if Celebrity Big Brother arranged for her to leave – her health is in jeopardy. I can’t bear to see my daughter break down and be forced to open her heart once more about her insecurities and vulnerabilities in front of cameras. It’s cruel TV.”
But, despite her erratic behaviour and meltdowns, Sarah was crowned the winner of the summer series 2017 on Friday (25.08.17) night after winning the public vote.

Rachel Adedeji is pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Adedeji is pregnant.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actress – who shot to fame on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 – is due to give birth to her first child on December 27 and she and her husband Jason Finnegan “can’t wait.”
She said: “We can’t wait to be parents.”
The brunette beauty portrays Lisa Loveday in the long-running Channel 4 soap and has praised the wardrobe team at ‘Hollyoaks’ for disguising her pregnancy so well on set.
She explained: “Lisa is a very vibrant character and doesn’t wear many clothes! But the team has been brilliant in allowing new clothes to fit Lisa’s personality. Instead of hot pants and a bra, it’s hot pants and a loose top!”
The 26-year-old beauty has been relying on her co-star Jennifer Metcalfe – who gave birth to her first child Daye in June – for advice on motherhood and they’re even planning a holiday together with their babies once Rachel has welcomed her little one into the world later this year.
Speaking to Closer magazine, she explained: “Jen has been amazing – I couldn’t ask for a better friend. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I was like, ‘Jen, what do I do?!’
“She’s an amazing mum and seeing her and Greg with Daye is just adorable. We’ve been talking about holidaying together once my baby arrives.”
Rachel tied the knot with her partner Jason back in 2015 in Buckinghamshire and took to her Twitter page just before she walked down the aisle to thank people for their wishes.
She wrote at the time: “Can’t believe the day is finally here. In the next few hours I’ll be a blushing bride. Thank you to everyone for your wishes. Xx (sic).”

Suranne Jones: Acting isn’t natural to me

OHMYGOSSIP — Suranne Jones doesn’t think acting comes naturally to her.
The 39-year-old actress was encouraged by her parents to take part in as many classes as possible – whether that was dance, drama, recorder or singing – as a child and, although she’s had a highly successful career since her early 20s, the brunette beauty has had to work hard at her talent.
Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, she said: “Some people are in their bones talented but I’m not. I’ve had to learn my craft, hone it.”
Asked whether there has not been a moment where she felt, ‘I got this’, she added fiercely: “No! God, no, no, no.”
With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that Suranne was blown away when she was heavily praised by viewers for her role as GP Gemma Foster in the first series of ‘Doctor Foster’ two years ago.
The first instalment saw Doctor Foster – also known as Gemma – left heartbroken when she found out her husband Simon Foster (Bertie Carvel), had been having an affair with a younger woman and then decided to leave her to start a family with his pregnant girlfriend.
Although fans were begging for a second series, which will hit television screens next week, Suranne wasn’t sure about it and needed persuading.
But she swiftly changed her mind when she met with writer Mike Bartlett and he explained he’d base the second series on the pain of divorce.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star explained: “I went for dinner with Mike, and he said, ‘What about the story of the divorce, when two people hate each other and they’ve got a kid to look after?’ I was hooked.”
And Suranne feels welcoming her son – whose name is not known – 18 months ago with her husband Laurence Akers helped her with the role.
She said: “People ask me what I draw on. Clearly I wasn’t thinking like that because by series two we [her husband Laurence Akers] had a baby. We were really happy. Being a mum really helped me because this series is about when two people get divorced and because everyone else is looking the other way and getting on with their lives. No one’s got their eye on the two people that hate each other.”
